No. They fly in face of our translation policy.

I've been meaning to get to that page for a while for a scrubbing but I've been too busy to edit.

I don't know who originally added those notes. Even then, that transfer happened back in 2016.

A look at their history does reveal they have natter and Serial Tweaker porblems. Example 1, example 2, and example 3.

I just tried to message them, but the screen came up white, and no message was sent.

I got that error when I misspelt the receivers name. Did you spell it as you saw it? I see that their name is spelled in all lowercase letters. Did you spell it with the first letter in uppercase?

The original series Yu-Gi-Oh character pages also specifies the manga named are to be used, but in that case the manga was translated after the anime dub aired. I think.

None of those pages seem to have such a note. That said, I don't think it's kosher to use the manga names for the anime.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds main page has a note saying to use the Japanese names as well. I do wonder if the fact that the subtitled versions, using the Japanese names, are officially available has any bearing on things.

TheNerfGuy Since: Mar, 2011

The history or that page cuts off long after the note was added, so it's unknown who originally added that note. Permission to remove that note?

As a member of the Arc-V fandom, the dub is mostly ignored in favour of the original sub, mainly due to the horrible quality. In fact, using dub is looked down upon.

I can guarantee that changing subbed names to Dubbed ones WILL be met with protest. Personally, I am very much against and can't emphasize enough, and I know for a fact that the entire fanbase with very few exceptions shares this sentiment.

^ That may be, but site rules are site rules, and I'm not sure exceptions can or will be made.

You would have to talk with the moderators about that.

It cannot be stressed enough that the moderators have the final say in whether or not a note is valid.

I never finished Arc V but I can only think of one decision by the dubbers that was objectively stupid. It was fairly run-of-the-mill otherwise.

Hi. Our rules for localization are standard across the board, and I do not see this particular work/fanbase getting an exception.

Lermis Since: Nov, 2018

Still, wouldn't that be TOO much work? Literally all the edits were done with the Japanese names, and not just by one troper. And I think I made my feelings perfectly clear above. Not to mention, if you look more closely at things such as quotes or funny moments, everything references the original Japanese unless specified otherwise. And the ones about the dub are very few. Do we really want to use dubbed names about a page that almost exclusively refers to the Japanese content?

And how is it going to work, we'll use the dub names everywhere but in the quotes the japanese ones? Ugh, that's just so ugly. Why the hell does this policy exist to begin with!? Are we really basing the work page on the adaptation?

Honestly, I think the questions to the quality and faithfulness of the dub are a minor issue compared to the fact most active members of the Arc-V fanbase (and post-GX Yugioh fanbases in general) don't even know the dub names.

It was mentioned that English subs are officially available. Are those the newest official English version? If so, what names do they use?

^^ Series like Glitter Force, Magical Doremi, and Glitter Force Doki Doki need to be overhauled to use the English names, but I don't think most tropers have even seen the English dubs.

Karxrida Since: May, 2012

It doesn't matter what the subs say because the official Yu-Gi-Oh website has a character database that uses the dub names. [1]

OK, here's the thing. The old animes, the original Yugioh, GX and maybe 5Ds? At this point, they're dubs are classic and filled with nostalgia. They're the stuff that you watched on the mornings when you were a kid on TV so obviously the mind goes straight to the dub. But these new shows, the exact same fanbase has grown older, and they pursue the sub, for several reasons.

And another thing; do you really think that the Dub is available everywhere? Not all countries and languages get a dub, and those dubs are rarely available due to copyright issues. Only the subs are readily available because they're written by fans who can get the original. In my country, getting the dub is impossible.

GoldenCityBird Since: Oct, 2018

Site policy is site policy. Popularity doesn't mean much on the wiki, so while the subs may be more popular, the dubs are the "official" English versions (if the official website is anything to go by).

(Also, Greece doesn't speak English natively, so it makes sense for a reliable sub with Japanese audio rather than a Greek- or English-language dub to be accessible there. Most of TVT's userbase is American, so we're going by what's officially used there, which would be the dub names.)

I'm assuming that translations of the Wiki would use what's used in the shows for that language...

policy dictates we prioritize any English Dubs an anime might have.
Clarification here, since nobody else is saying it; policy says ''most recent translation' wins, not dub over sub.

Fan-subs are illegal and not official. Tvtropes uses the most recent English translation. If the most recent English translation is the English Dub Name Changes, those are what's used.

Most Beyblade and Inazuma Eleven fans use the Japanese names, but those aren't allowed on here because they're not the most recent translation.
