open My Thread Was Locked
Random Thoughts: Complete Monster was created by me as a means of helping keep my OT thoughts about the trope off the Cleanup thread. I've constantly had to be reminded to stay on topic and I recently came off of a suspension. Afraid of being thumped and permanently banned, I found the OT thread I formed under Yack Fest worked perfectly and it helped regulate my thoughts in a more Free Verse environment. Discussions remained civil and the outlet was one that a fair amount of people seemed interested in. I believe that the thread should be unlocked, but first, I'd like to find out exactly why it has been locked in the first place.

Edited by futuremoviewriteropenEdit conflict in ElementalPowers; bringing it here before an edit war
About a month and a half ago (May 9), I did some clearing out of the Elemental Powers intro - specifically, I felt the list of "common" elements was too large and many were not all that common, so I cut a number of them. Each entry also had a sentence saying "This power is called [x]kinesis." that I cut as well, since I don't think anyone cares about the "kinesis" names.
I just went back and found that Weaselephant put everything back on May 31, with no edit reason. I want to re-cut it, but I know that's an edit war. I don't know if this is worth a tap on the shoulder or not, but I'd at least like to get some more input on which elements are worth keeping or cutting from the list.
openMods on Franchise/Doom Videogame
I noticed on the index Franchise/Doom there's a list of Doom mods; wouldn't it be better to simply remove it? There's already an index for Doom mods in FanWorks/Doom, and having it also in the Franchise page is redundant. Besides, in other Franchise pages, fan derivative works are never shown, because they technically are not part of the franchise.
Edited by gc10openRequest to hard-split a page
The page Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game K To N has gotten very long and unwieldy and if you edit it, there is even a message that says it should be split up into at least two pages. Therefore, I am requesting that this be done for ease of navigation. Thank you.
Edited by SeptimusHeapopenCan creators have trivia pages?
Took a look at the new pages, and found Creator.Matt Barr; the only trope on this page is What Could Have Been, a trivia trope. Can this creator have a trivia page, or is that not kosher?
openEditor with grammar problems
(Here we go again.) Ltnik244 this time; they have an almost terrifyingly poor grasp of punctuation (especially when to use and when not to use apostrophes) and capitalisation, and some of their entries are so grammatically poor that I have no idea what they're trying to say. I've sent a grammar notifier but it appears the problems run deeper than I at first realised.
openTroper AmazingCartoonHero still using bad English in edits
After being suspended from editing for poor English back in February, Amazing Cartoon Hero was allowed to continue editing the wiki after promising to get the edits proofread on the Get Help With English Here thread.
Since then, he has repeatedly made edits using bad English to TV Tropes without running them past the Get Help With English Here thread. His edit history.
The problem edits include the following:
FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse, Jun 20th 2019
"He was so touched, he decide to give the gold to the town people."
Should be "decided". According to How to Write an Example - Write in Historical Present Tense, it actually should be "He is so touched, he decides to give the gold to the town people."
FanficRecs.DannyPhantom May 23rd 2019
"Now he and his brothers fight against the mysterious Foot Clan and their leader the Shredder in an epic battle in this first ninja but kicking season."
Should be "butt kicking".
"meet new friends, battle against their arch enemies Shredder abd Vlad Plasmius,"
Should be "and".
All his life he was known as Danny Thompson, <- comma but when the truth is revealed, he now becomes part of an organisation known as the World Protection Agency that fights against DALV, <- comma an organisation determined to rule the world. Danny, <- comma along with his friend Sam Manson, his sister Jazz and Taylor Russo, <- comma work together to stop DALV and find his parents.
FanficRecs.DannyPhantom May 21st 2019
"Danny and Dayla are twin brother and sister. One day they have an accident in their parents' lab, causing them to become half-ghosts. Now, <- comma with the help of their friends Sam and Tucker, they battle ghosts and deal with the pressures of high school."
"Danny and Dayla Phantom return with more phantasmic adventures! They will battle more ghosts along with Sam Manson, Tucker Foley and now the newest member of Team Phantom Andrew Knight."
^ As written, this says that they will be battling their allies.
Should be:
"Along with Sam Manson, Tucker Foley and now the newest member of Team Phantom, <- comma Andrew Knight, they will battle more ghosts. <- period
There are more, but this post is long enough already.
Edited by ArivneopenLeonEmbers Film
The troper LeonEmbers just deleted a good chunk of examples from the Awesome.Avengers Endgame page with a mere Edit Reason of "Nobody cares." See here.
Looking through the examples they deleted, I noticed that most of the examples this person deleted just so happened to be Awesome Moments where the superheroines got to shine. So not only is this person deleting a lot of Moments put together by other Tropers with a very weak Edit Reason, but the Moments that were deleted referred strictly to the superheroines, so this person is coming off as sexist and misogynistic. I don't know if that was their intention, but it looks a bit obvious.
openEntry Needs Fixing
Found this entry on Shout-Out Theme Naming:
- The Superjail! fanfic Extended Stay does this with the Warden and the Mistress's twins Matilda and Ethan. A review gave the author suggestions that the twins be named after the star-crossed lovers in Ethan Frome. Obviously, the author took the suggestions for the names but then added in "Elizabeth" and "Victor" for their middle names. Hmm... Considering that the twins eventually become owners of Ultraprison and Superjail, almost like coming-of-age monarchs in a kingdom, could it be that they were also named for famous real-life monarchs as well and English monarchs no less? Possibly combined with Named After Somebody Famous.
- This could possibly be an in-universe example given how close the Warden and the Mistress were to becoming star-crossed lovers themselves.
- "Elizabeth" could either refer to Henry VIII's daughter, the now-deceased mother of the current Queen of England AKA the Queen Mum, or Her Majesty the Queen herself.
- "Victor" is a masculine form of "Victoria", which was the name of the English queen who reigned from 1837 to 1901.
- "Elizabeth" and "Victor" most likely came from another pair of lovers, this time from Frankenstein. These are the first names of the infamous Doctor and his wife. His parents raised them as something like adopted siblings with the intention of two marrying each other as adults.
- Their little brother Edward is probably named after the English king who succeeded Queen Victoria after she died. Either that or he could've been named for King Henry VIII's surviving son.
Lots of speculation in this entry, for a fic that only has about 25 faves and 13 follows at this time. How should I cut down this entry? Should I first trim it of speculation, leaving only the entries that seem to be explicitly confirmed or obvious enough to be a direct reference?
open Editor with an agenda Film
Can we get a mod revert to Awesome.Avengers Endgame? Leon Embers removed most mentions of awesome moments performed by female characters, and changed the wording in others. For example, "[Thanos] putting [Captain Marvel] out of commission" became "[Thanos] putting [Captain Marvel] in her place".
ETA: The edit reason left for removal is "Nobody cares".
Upon further inspection of their edit history, I found some other red flags.
They (twice) added the following to YMMV.Clarence here and here:
Furthermore, they made an overtly transphobic edit in Heartwarming.Critical Role, link here, where they removed information about a "genderfluid" person (not familiar with the work, just quoting as I read) citing that "Nobody cares".
Edited by RoundRobinopenAdding commented-out examples
Is it allowed to add commented-out zero-context examples on the wiki pages?
It seems weird... because clearly the editors adding those know about our ZCE policy and that ZCE are not actually allowed. Yet they add those incomplete examples on the page, which only means more work for other people. Seems unfair.
One argument could be they do it with intention to edit it later themselves, but that's what the to-do list is for, or some sandbox page.
openGeneral Arnold's Apologist
This Troper is a new troper whose only edits consist of random deletions— with two of the three involving images. I sent them an edit-reason notifier, because their edits lack one, but I'm reporting them here on the chance that they're just a troll or, worse, a sock of Stormtrooper 68.
Edited by WarJay77openQuestion about edit wars
If you add back an example after asking about it in the the "Is this an example?" thread, does it count as edit warring?
openYMMV.KannazukiNoMiko page... kind of overly negative? Anime
This page. I get that it's a controversial show, but why is it that it looks like being written not by a neutral party but more like the detractors hamfisting what they don't like about the show? I've already made several edits about it, but I feel like I should rewrite in a more neutral manner.
Should I? Is the page negative enough?
The main page itself looked rather old, with a lot of ZCE's (I plan on fixing that too), so I was thinking that this was why a lot of its 'negativity' (if confirmed) went unfixed. What do you think?
openWeird example section CapitalLettersAreMagic
Instead of splitting examples by media categories, Capital Letters Are Magic splits them into Metaphysical Concepts, Races, and Other. Given that most examples fall into Other, this doesn't seem like a useful way to split the page. Also, everything under Metaphysical Concepts is a pothole that hides the work name, which is explicitly forbidden under How to Write an Example.
Permission to re-write the section into a normal examples section?
Edited by naturalironistopenAdding Tabs Like Nightmare Fuel
Hello, I am updating the page of a mobile game known as seven knights and trying to add some tabs like 'Nightmare Fuel' and 'Funny' but when I click on 'Create New' it doesn't show me the option?
Can anyone help with this?
openSubforum to use for sandbox help
I'd like to ask on the forums for help working on Sandbox.Crunchyroll. What subforum would it go in?
I changed the video game generation years on Horrible.Video Games and its subpages, with my reasoning, as stated on Horrible.Video Game Generations Fifth To Sixth, being "Even if the last PS2 game was released in 2013, the sixth generation effectively ended around 2007", but ndboy changed it to 2010 and then back to 2013, without explanation both times. I don't think we should say the generations ended with the very last game released on them; by that logic, we're still in the seventh generation because Ubisoft is still releasing Just Dance games for the Wii. Also, Wikipedia, which seems to have come up with those generation names, says the seventh generation began in late 2005 with the Xbox 360, not 2004. I sent ndboy a PM about this, but he hasn't responded, so can I change it back?
