For Console Wars, we ultimately defined generations as ending when the successor systems have released. So we count the Sixth Generation ending in 2006, since all the major Seventh-Gen systems had launched by then. I think you're clear in regards to the year; the only issue is if this escalates to an edit war but I don't think we're there yet.
It may be better to avoid defining them by years at all.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I think the years are helpful.
Keet cleanupYeah, there's no reason to not list the years.
Might as well not sort them by generation at all if you're not going to list the years.
Edited by PrimisAlright, if a game that belongs to the Sixth generation but was originally released during 2008, which folder does it belong in?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. They go in the folder based on the console(s) they were released on, but most later games a console are Multi-Platform; a game released on both the GameCube and Wii would go in seventh generation, for example.
Keet cleanup^ Thematically, the one big GameCube/Wii dual release fits better with the sixth generation.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.^If you say so. What game are you talking about?
Keet cleanupHow do the years help?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.We shouldn't expect everyone to know what "seventh generation" means in terms of consoles, and it helps with finding PC games, which are put in a folder based on when they came out.
Edited by rjd1922 Keet cleanupI thought bwburke94 was talking about So Bad, It's Horrible games (which Twilight Princess obviously isn't). Are there any Horrible games released on a next-gen platform and one from the previous gen?
Keet cleanupNot sure how the quality of the game matters, unless the thinking is that a bad game that gets released on two generations' platforms "belongs" in the older generation because it's worse.
EDIT: Oh wait, I didn't notice that the inquiry was about the Horrible page. But I think the question is more general than that. The generations should be applied the same on every page they're relevant.

I changed the video game generation years on Horrible.Video Games and its subpages, with my reasoning, as stated on Horrible.Video Game Generations Fifth To Sixth, being "Even if the last PS2 game was released in 2013, the sixth generation effectively ended around 2007", but ndboy changed it to 2010 and then back to 2013, without explanation both times. I don't think we should say the generations ended with the very last game released on them; by that logic, we're still in the seventh generation because Ubisoft is still releasing Just Dance games for the Wii. Also, Wikipedia, which seems to have come up with those generation names, says the seventh generation began in late 2005 with the Xbox 360, not 2004. I sent ndboy a PM about this, but he hasn't responded, so can I change it back?
