Ask the Tropers:
openKnives Out character interpretation Film
There seems to be a slow-burning, passive-aggressive dispute over some members of the Thrombey family (specifically, Meg, Linda, and Walt). Nothing dramatic so far, but it's bogging the page with numerous small edits over their motives and any redeeming features.
Let's take Meg, for example. One troper paints her in a negative light due to her actions Spoilers (she betrays Marta's trust when it becomes clear that she's going to lose her inheritance and cushy lifestyle, despite initially appearing as one of the more liberal members of the family). Then, another troper comes along and says, "no, Meg is alright, she was pressured by her family to do that, and Marta forgives her anyway". Needless to say, it's been going in circles for a while.
The film, by its nature, avoids taking sides. All the Thrombeys are ultimately various degrees of unlikable, and they all antagonize Marta at some point. Any Token Good Teammate status is, IMO at least, heavily subjected to Alternative Character Interpretation.

Edited by RoundRobinopenOn enlarging / uploading higher-resolution versions of images
I'm just wondering why some work pages have "Image selected per Image Pickin' thread" comments on them when other work pages do not. What if I would just simply want to upload a higher-resolution version of that same image (or have found a PNG version of a JPEG one, in the same resolution, just in case), do I still need to have it passed or approved on that thread?
What if the page image is a 300px PNG, but there's a JPEG image that meets the 350px max image size of this site?
Edited by DanteVinopenLaunching forgotten TLP drafts
So, I was just doing some cleanups over my TLP drafts, and I just realised I made another TLP draft years ago that I kind of forgot about, since I'm not particularly active in TLP.
It was apparently launch-ready (it has enough hats, at least), but since the standards for trope page is lower back in the day, I'm not sure if that particular draft actually meets the current bar. Is there a policy that deals this kind of issue? Thanks
openPages on Technical Terms
I know in the past there wasn't any issue with launching pages on certain topics like obscure genres or technical terms, and YKTTW / TLP were mostly optional to help refine the description and gather examples. Anyway, I tried to make a page for Colorization because George Lucas Altered Version had separate folders for just that and I figured that was a separate industry term altogether. When trying to make the page it redirected me to TLP when I tried to edit, it's been a while so I didn't know it had been redesigned to do that.
So I made a TLP proposal copying examples from GLAV directly to it and a baseline description. It has three hats and three bombs already and almost no explanation for the bombs. I plan on cleaning things up a little and adding the examples before launching in a few days, but traffic through TLP can be kind of slow at times.
Since it is an official term would there be any issue with launching the trope even if there are bombs on it? It's not going to be sloppy by any means but I don't want to forget about it waiting for bomb feedback.
openopen/close all notes
Is there (or if there isn't, should there be) a way to open/close all notes on a page, similar to the open/close all folders option?
I'm asking because I find looking for a specific character for a work with Loads And Loads Of Characters (for example) to be somewhat inconvenient if I am unsure where to find the character that I am looking for.
I know this is a very minor inconvenience at worst (if I know the characters name, I can just manually open the notes and search for the name, which doesn't take that long, but it would be sped up if I could open all the notes at once), but I just thought I'd ask.
open Seeking show title- Mom abandons son
Very limited info- and this is more a detail/supporting background info on main character rather than plot
But a flashback shows son goes door to door in neighborhood looking for mom/asking neighbors for info regarding missing mom.
Later in life, older man (possibly father) taunts the son-now man saying something like, “I remember when you were just a boy asking people what happened to your mom.” He also said “She left you and didn’t even say goodbye.”
I believe mom willingly left to go to Florida or maybe was involved in drugs or prostitution.
This was likely on a modern drama, possibly HBO or Netflix.
openI just remove the video folder from NightmareFuel/Other
For record keeping. Today, someone added Fatal diving acident caught on tape: Yuri Lipski the description make it sound like real record, so I removed on the ground that Nightmare Fuel is NRLEP (after check the video, it's indeed real but the description is lying, he isn't dead).
Hours later, I check other two video on the folder but found that both are gone (Ars Gratia Artis and Begotten. Well, even if they're still available, they should be on other page anyway. And so the whole folder is removed.
openSocial Media Personified
What type of mefia would Social Media Personified by thisisfrog be considered?
openWhere to file examples from a show within a show
So I'm crosswicking Card Force Infection and I'm wondering if the examples of tropes in the in-universe card game should go in the Literature folder or the Tabletop Games folder?
It's never been published as a tabletop game, but the author does have a list of the full rules text for all the cards seen so far and enough of the game flow has been discussed in the story that one could put together and play the game, if one wanted to.
... For that matter, should tropes from the in-universe card game be separated out on the work page itself? I did it like that because I thought it looked nicer, but on reflection I'm not sure if it's the "correct" thing to do and I can't think of another game-within-a-story that's theoretically playable but not actually published like this one is to compare against.
Edited by wingedcatgirlopenNew troper making incredibly lazy TLPs
The troper Okthen 789 has never edited before today, but their draft bad guy wins forever is incredibly low-effort, and as best as anyone can tell, refers to tropes we already have. After being called out for that in the comments, they did the same thing again with accidental villain victory. It might be best they not go near the TLP for the time being.
openPossible ban evader back again
Can an IP check be made on C Okama Anime 85. Their edits and username are very similar to serial ban evader DisneyAnimefan95, who has been guilty of ban evasion several times before.
openSpam Review
Spam review here. It's in Vietnamese but translating it shows it's just a bot posting about Amazon.
openHelp with creating Afghan media
I ran into an issue when trying to create an Afghan media page as when I just put Afghan Media, it redirects to Trope Launch Page, so I was wondering if I should put it as Afghan Media or is there something else I am doing wrong? Let me know thanks.
openSuperman 64 Videogame
As far as I'm aware when a work gets a page here, it's supposed to be listed under it's actual title and not by any Fan Nicknames.
Yet Superman 64 appears to be violating this rule, as it's pointed out on both it's main work page and it'd trivia page, that the game is actually called The New Superman Aventures and that Superman 64 is only a Fan Nickname.
openPhoto in the examples section Film
True Lies has a photo right next to the Truth in Television example. Is this kosher? I thought photos were only supposed to go up at the top, or is that an unofficial rule?
openTroping RealLife events
Should Awesome.Pro Gaming be cut for troping real life events?
openTroper adding natter even after notifier
I sent Radiated Ronin a notifier back in February for Natter, but they are still at it.
Latest violation: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=YMMV.TheBirds#edit26028845
Have been spending plenty of time on my Works Page lately doing edits and adding entries. Link:

Several questions:
1. Four of the tropes listed came up with fuel pumps at the front. These are likely Opinion Tropes, and it says not to list on a Tropes Example List. They seem to be good fits for trope examples in my work, but regardless they should be removed, correct? Just making sure before they get nuked.
2. Ran into the "Crappy Trope Definitions" in the Darth Wiki and want to make sure about two of them before doing anything:
a. "Hilarity Ensues" requires humor coming from something that would not normally be humorous, yes? The three stories listed have humor descend from slapstick depiction of bad pet behavior: ruining/fouling up a computer, a food fight trashing a table full of baked goods, and reckless daredevil skiing. Do these qualify?
b. "Loads and Loads of Characters." Most of these stories have a limited character cast, but the fanfic listed under this trope is both short and crammed full of speaking characters (14 of them), all canon-based. Not sure if this qualifies as an example or not.
3. I think I've got the gist of terms such as "inverted" (the exact opposite),"subverted" (setting a premise and undercutting it), "played with" (a variant of played straight), "played straight" (happens normally, and in contrast to something else in the example that is not), "zig-zagged" (happens many times over), "averted" (doesn't happen, and generally to be avoided), and "hand waved" (pushed away for something like Rule of Cool). But terms like this can be tricky. Would someone be willing to take a look at the page and make sure it's done correctly?
4. Entry Pimping examples for the work on various Trope Pages appears to be okay. Just want to be sure before undertaking. If so, does the new example get entered at the top, the bottom, or in alphabetical order by work title (it's hard to tell from examples checked)?
Many thanks for the help. Am happy to elaborate further via PM as appropriate.
