Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

Ask the Tropers:
open Edit war?
Tropers/bobg edit warring in the Disney Robin Hood character page. I have originally deleted his example because the character says the opposite of what the entry Card-Carrying Villain says (he DENIES having a "heart of stone". In fact after saying that quote he says "BUT traitors have to die" or something like that)
Edit: Never mind, he deleted the example now
Edited by annette12openShould links to trivia as part of a trope explanation be removed?
There are pages that treat the [[invoked]] tag like a magic word to prevent YMMV and trivia from displaying their icons in the examples list. I assume YMMV things can be safely deleted, but what about trivia that appears as part of the entry? There was another ATT somewhere that said inline potholes were permitted and those icons would be removed. Is that still the case?
YMMV example:
* MoodWhiplash: [[invoked]] Donut's [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass surprisingly]] [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome awesome]] CurbStompBattle of [[spoiler:[[KillerRobot Dos.0]]]] [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments is promptly ruined when]] his attempt at a PreMortemOneLiner [[spoiler:in Spanish]] falls into MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels.
Trivia example:
* ArcWords: [[invoked]] "You just have to try." "What do you fight for?" And of course, the old classic: "You ever wonder why we're here?" - This time courtesy of Caboose, who forgets the second half of the line. [[WordOfGod In many ways, these two mean about the same thing.]]
openThe Presidents
Permission to rename UsefulNotes. The Presidents to UsefulNotes. The Presidents Of The United States?
EDIT: I think there was a thread regarding this issue, though I forgot what it was. As I read that thread, and being non-American, I would say that renaming UsefulNotes. The Presidents to UsefulNotes. The Presidents Of The United States would make it sound easier and less on-confusing to non-Americans.
Edited by alnair20aug93openEditor with indentation issues
I've sent GravityGraedon two notifiers about Example Indentation in Trope Lists, and they appear to have had no effect; they're even un-correcting indentation to involve a single second-level bullet (see AwesomeMusic. The Raccoons for multiple examples).
openPair the Spares misuse?
Shipping. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic mentions Pair the Spares examples for fan pairings. But since Pair the Spares isn't a YMMV trope, does it need to happen in the actual work to count?
Speaking of MLP, it was recently (without discussion or approval) used as the page image for Pair the Spares, despite one of the pairings only being Ship Tease and the Spares having no tease, much less relation. Before taking this to Image Pickin' I want to confirm if it requires they be paired in work because the image works if not.
I also asked Is this an example?
openFan works misplaced?
RealityEnsues.Pokemon includes the unofficial content of a fan site and ROM Hack VideoGame.Pokemon Reborn (I assume there's nothing in the namespace to denote it's a fan work. Is it mis-namespace?). Should it be limited to the official works (should Pokémon Detective Pikachu examples be moved there as well?) and the fan work go under their Reality Ensues pages
openUnnecessary Spoiler Warnings Videogame
Several Crash Bandicoot pagesnote Crash Bandicoot (1996), Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Crash Twinsanity, and Crash: Mind Over Mutant have spoiler warnings at the top of their pages.
Are these really necessary? The most recent game is over ten years old (not counting the recent remakes), the oldest is over twenty, and it's Crash Bandicoot, it's not exactly known for its story.
openIs this good?
I started a Playing With page for Twerp Sweating and was wondering if anything is off with it. Here it is: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/PlayingWith/TwerpSweating
If anything's wrong with it, please let me know.
openTroper with multiple formatting issues
Gregory 15 has changed the image on multiple pages without starting an IP thread. They also uncommented a bunch of ZC Es.
- Latest Examples:
I sent a notifier for image changes previously (about a week or 2 ago).
openNo Title Live Action TV
Is it allowed to change trope titles for purposes like fitting the gender of the person it applies to? On the page for Another Life (2019), I saw somebody had listed Sir Swears-a-Lot as "Lady Swears A Lot."
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenPetTheDog removal Film
I removed Pet the Dog from Red Zone Cuba on the grounds that a Complete Monster can't Pet the Dog, after asking in the Complete Monster discussion forum. Awesomekid 42 then added it back with the edit reason: "A CM can Pet The Dog. It just means in the present, those moments of sympathy are invalidated. A character can start with redeeming qualities before losing them and becoming a CM (such as Dio when he used to care for his mother)"
I wanted to take this here to get a consensus on whether to keep or delete the example to avoid starting an Edit War. Does anybody want o weigh in?
openURL Change Web Original
Is there a way to change the capitalization of a letter in the URL of an existing page?
openZero effort TLP being recreated
gabrielwild435 keeps creating poor-quality TLP proposals but has no other wiki activity. Could we possibly have a mod try to point them to some resources for new tropers? They don't seem to understand what the TLP is for.

open Spacing Issue Web Original
I'm having a weird issue on this page where two words are combined but shouldn't be. How do I fix this?
openEdit warring troper Western Animation
Lady Erin NY has been repeatedly removing a section in the Nice to the Waiter entry on Steven Universe — Pink Diamond.
openTroper with indentation problems
I've sent aslatts27 indentation notifiers several times, even re-wrote one of the examples they've edited to demonstrate how to fix them, but I'm not seeing a change in behaviour. Maybe they assume the existing indentation is correct and they're often only expanding the context of a specific bullet, but I'm not certain because they will sometimes create and fix indentation problems in the same edit.
Edited by crazysamaritan
lugia1 is deleting a whole bunch of commented-out ZCEs with no edit reasons (see A Boy and His X and Abhorrent Admirer). They have also made some grammar and capitalization mistakes, as seen on Abandon Ship and the subpages of Get A Hold Of Yourself Man (which I fixed). Requesting a revert on the removal of commented-out examples; they're left like that so people can add context, and deleting them is rather rude.
