Trope Launch Pad discard project

So, I just want to bring some more drafts here.

• Arbitrary Accessory Limit: Abandoned stub. Seem to rare to trope, and none example has context.
• Background Anachronism: Abandoned stub with no examples. States it is an specific kind of blooper, might be yarded.
• Catchphrase vs Gravity: Unedited stub with no examples.
• Chase Bump: Single Line Description with no idea behind it.
• Zero-Episode Wonder: Abandoned Stub, and sponsor admits this is covered.

I don't think that Arbitrary Accessory Limit is too rare to trope. None of the examples have any context, sure, but I could see it broadened a bit like the comments suggest into being a trope about the equipment slots that your character has in action RPGs like Path of Exile.

Well, I do see it as viable if it's expanded. Is just that, as written, is too rare to trope, since it only focuses on rings.

Found some good Yard material:

• New Canon Incorporation was made earlier this month but hasn't been touched since creation. It's definitely a thing; a fanfic I read a few months back actually had something like this.
• Rebirth Makeover: from 2013 with a small bit of life in 2019, this is also a thing, but the draft is terrible save for one good example and no one ever took it during that period of reignited activity.

Alright. -Cracks Knuckles-

I went through the rest of the Mothball list. To save us a lot of headache, I'm just bringing up the drafts that can absolutely be removed from the list, either for being nuke-worthy, for being worked on recently, or for belonging in the Salvage Yard more. Anything not mentioned is something we could probably launch easily or something that needs a lot of discussion.

Also, can we add a rule that drafts discussed here need to be abandoned and if those drafts get adopted and worked on, we stop talking about them here?

Sheesh, War Jay, quit reading my mind. :P (Seriously, I started doing something akin to this last night, albeit not exact).

Anyway, I took the liberty of doing two things in the Sandbox:

1. I removed the drafts with recent activity for...well, recent activity, as well as the ones nuked thus far.

2. I combed through the Mothballs and set aside the theoretical "easy launches" (hats + decent ideas) in the Launchbox folder.

Anyway, sweet.

I can name an example for Arbitrary Accessory Limit, and yes it involves rings. I think this is actually an extremely common trope, near omnipresent due to graphical requirements, game balance, The Law of Conservation of Detail, whatever. Rings are the easiest to notice, but in any game with equipment the player can choose, typically there's a limit on the number of pieces you can put on. Most games don't allow you to wear more than one hat.

I think I found a draft for the Salvage Yard, Better Guilty Than Incompetent. It Needs A Better Description and someone suggested starting over on a fresh draft to reset the hat and bomb count.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.

I want to talk about Boarding School Buddy. I still think it'd be better retooled into a trope about the first friend someone makes at any new school, often the Nice Guy that first starts to befriend them as they're adjusting, often after everyone else was mean to them to serve as a contrast.

I'm bringing it here because IDK if it's worth starting a new draft or what; I have enough examples for it to not go into the Salvage Yard, but is Boarding School Buddy distinct enough as-is?

Extension All is an abandoned draft with only a few examples. Might be yard material.

Mystic Eye Of Depth Perception is an abandoned stub using weblinks for description and examples. I suggest the salvage yard.

Let's bomb UsefulNotes/Fascism, since UsefulNotes.Fascism has been made.

I think "first friend at a new school" is far enough removed from the original concept of the trope that you can justify starting fresh. The draft is in bad shape anyway; I'd just link it in the comments as the inspiration.

I also PM'd Xfllo about it since she was interested in the original draft, and she also encouraged me to start over, so that's what I'll do.

I bring some new draft to check, mostly no-effort ones.

• Aircraft Carrier Takedown: Seems like a trope for whenever an specific kind of ship is destroyed for shock value.
• Aliens Invented Velcro: Abandoned stub, and the sponsor seemed weirdly focused on creating this trope of ET Gave Us Wifi but only for velcro.
• Big Sargeant, Small Corporal: Those Two Guys, and this time THEY ARE ON THE MILITARY!
• Crossroads of Destiny: Unedited, zero-effort draft that seems covered by At the Crossroads.
• Designated Missoginist: Seems like an specific case of Compressed Vice. It may actually be viable, but has been abandoned for years.
• Do you even know how to use that thing?: "Character assumed to be unfamiliar with guns shows unexpected facility with them". Bad title and has been abandoned for some time. Not sure if the idea deserves to be yarded.
• Flashback Hero: Unedited, zero-effort draft. Not sure if the idea is viable, since I actually think I have an example.
• Great White Defendant: Seem to be trying to create a trope around one specific example.
• Gullible People are Funny: Zero-effort draft, and the few examples are only links.
• Misleading Passive Sentece: Abandoned and seems covered already by Worse with Context and Stopped Reading Too Soon.
• Retcon Issue: Abandoned stub. I don't know enough about comic books to know how notable this is.
• Robots eat metal: The least effort I have seen in a draft.

• Do you even know how to use that thing?: I think maybe it's worth yarding to see if someone can start an expanded version titled Unexpected Skill or something like that.

I don't think Musical Structure and Form is a Useful Note so much as a misplaced Wikipedia entry, at least in the sense that what's there is such specialized information that it's not really relevant to anyone who isn't a music theorist or trying to pass themselves off as one.

It's certainly a UN if the page is going to exist, but I don't know that it really fits the stated purpose of Useful Notes — the information may be completely correct, but the topic is at best only tangential to the site's mission.

In any case, I bombed them all except the Aircraft Carrier one, because if an aircraft carrier gets destroyed, that's a pretty significant occurrence narratively. It's the nautical equivalent of getting your base blown up.

As for yarding Do You Even Know... under Unexpected Skill, that sounds awful close to Suddenly Always Knew That.

• Bumbling Eavesdropper is easy yard material. No examples listed, was never edited, only has one comment, but it looks tropeworthy to me and I don't think it's something we have.
• Command Chain is a low-effort stub.
• Descent Into Lovesick Mode is Love Makes You Crazy, as noted by most of the comments.
• Friendly Neighborhood Troll: At first, I thought this was about mythological trolls, but it's actually about internet trolls and The Gadfly. So it's not a very specific form of All Trolls Are Different, it's a very specific form of Jerk with a Heart of Gold with added confusion.
• Get Ready! is an abandoned stub with no examples, but it's probably worth yarding.
• Hand Falls Limp is already covered by He's Dead, Jim.
• Life Sentences Mean Nothing is covered by several tropes listed in the comments.
• Must Have This Last One may or may not be covered by Gotta Catch Them All, but I'm more concerned by its complete lack of a description. Motion to discard either way.
• No Fat Chicks is Only One Female Mold.
• Wet Roads is an abandoned stub. The author tried to get out of listing any examples by claiming it's an Omnipresent Trope, but I don't agree that it's omnipresent, nor would there be any value in listing aversions. Maybe yard it?

Yard candidates

• Eastern Religions are Just Better: I've definitely seen orientalist storylines where Westerners get really into Buddhism or Hinduism; ties in with tropes like Magical Asian, Bourgeois Bohemian, etc. But this is an abandoned stub with no examples.
• Lelouch Face: Blatant Trope Namer Syndrome (I think◊ this is what they mean), with no examples, but I "a face that's so distorted by wrath/anger/grief that almost looks narmy" has a kernel of tropeworthiness. fixed
• Pals with a Professor: "Younger character is friends with an older professor/scientist character" duo is definitely a reoccurring pattern...problem is that all the examples in the comments and draft are ZCE.

Motion to discard

• I hate because I love: Abandoned stub with no examples, covered by a bunch of situations as stated in the comments.
• The Desk of Destiny: Covered by Conveniently Seated
• Our Afterlife is Different: We already have a whole index of Afterlife Tropes. The question of what this brings to the table beyond that was not answered, and the description has nearly nil.
• Magical Winter: Covered by Endless Winter.
• Kindle Worlds: Supposed to catalog Amazon's defunct foray into fanfic hosting, but since it only lists works they were 'licensed' to host and no actual fics on the site that were actually on there, I don't know why this would be useful.
• That Was One Time: Stock phrase, and we already had Once Done, Never Forgotten.
• Could have taken the stairs: Covered by Mundane Solution

Probably not outright discardable but I don't think they would work anyway:

• Woobieville: Everyone in the work is The Woobie, a trope which is already YMMV. The not-YMMV is Dysfunction Junction, where everyone has a troubled past.
• Guitars: A useful notes page about guitars...
• White Hair, Enigmatic Heart: The very vague and broad laconic^note An enigmatic yet heroic or impartial character whose white hair auguments the air of mystery and/or strangeness surrounding him or her. already strikes me as an Appearance Trope Red Flag. We've already got Mystical White Hair for when white hair = outright supernatural.
