Note: If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the mods to add the trope via this thread.
This is the thread to report tropes with problematic Real Life sections.
Common problems include:
- Conversation on the Main Page
- Flame Bait
- Squicky content
- Impossible in Real Life
Real Life sections on the wiki are kept as long as they don't become a problem. If you find an article with such problems, report it here. Please note that the purpose of this thread is to clean up and maintain real life sections, not raze them. Cutting should be treated as a last resort, so please only suggest cutting RL sections or a subset thereof you think the examples in question are completely unsalvageable.
If historical RL examples are not causing any problems, consider whether it would be better to propose a No Recent Examples, Please! (via this forum thread) for RL instead of NRLEP. If RL examples are causing problems only for certain subjects, consider whether a Limited Real Life Examples Only restriction would be preferable to NRLEP.
If you think a trope should be No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only, then this thread is the place to discuss it. However, please check Keep Real Life Examples first to see if it has already been brought up in the past. If not, state the reasons and add it to the crowner.
Before adding to the crowner:
- The trope should be proposed in the thread, along with reasons for why a crowner is necessary instead of a cleanup.
- There must be support from others in thread.
- Any objections should be addressed.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for discussion.
When adding to the crowner:
- Be sure to add the trope name, a link to where the discussion started, the reasons for crownering, whether the restriction being proposed is NRLEP or LRLEO (and in the latter case, which subject(s) the restriction would be for), and the date added.
- Announce in thread that you are adding the item.
- An ATT advert should be made as well (batch items together if more than one trope goes up in a day).
In order for a crowner to pass:
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- There must be a 2:1 ratio
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple extra days to see if any more votes come in
- Once passed, tropes must be indexed on the appropriate NRLEP index
- Should the vote fail, the trope should be indexed on KRLE page
Sex Tropes, Rape and Sexual Harassment Tropes, and Morality Tropes are banned from having RL sections so tropes under those indexes don't need crowner vote.
Crowner entries that have already been called will have "(CLOSED)" appended to them — and are no longer open for discussion.
After bringing up a trope for discussion, please wait at least a day for feedback before adding it to the crowner.
NRLEP tag:

LRLEO tag:
%%The following restrictions apply: [list restriction(s) here]

Notes:
- This thread is not for general discussion regarding policies for Real Life sections or crowners. Please take those conversations to this Wiki Talk thread.
- Do not try to overturn previous No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only decisions without a convincing argument.
- As mentioned here, the consensus is that NRLEP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.
- The [[noreallife]] tag doesn't currently work. This is a deprecated tag that was introduced many years ago — originally, it would have displayed a NRLEP warning banner when you edited the page. However, there's been some staff conversation (Feb 2024) about what a new technical solution might look like, so we'd advise against deleting these from pages, at least until we have a decision as to whether it'll be fixed or replaced.

There's a thread for discussing SBIH pages, for the record. Probably should work that angle before worrying about NRLEP.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpDie for Our Ship should probably be made NRLEP, seeing as it just potholes to the newly NRLEP Yoko Oh No and leaves it at that. Thoughts?

for NRLEP-ing Die for Our Ship as that's an audience reaction if I remember right.
'kay then. Adding it to the crowner.
I cut the Yoko Oh No pothole on Die for Our Ship and linked to the TRS thread in the edit summary.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Should the Hitler example stay in Makeup Is Evil? Its accurate but anything concerning Nazis is provocative.
—
The Beauty Equals Goodness has a lot of examples saying people like beautiful people which isnt exactly that trope (and the examples seems to repeat a bit). How much should I cut?
Eh, I think the Hitler example is fine. Some of the other ones in there could use trimming, though, which I'll do after posting this.

- You Are Not Alone: Added 24th Aug '19 at 06:04:38 PM; 2.33:1 (10)
Weekend is over (well, sorta for those in the US, Monday being the actual Labor Day holiday), so catching up on pending issues.
Die for Our Ship has cleared both the minimum time and minimum votes hurdles, with no sign of there being any objections, so calling to make NRLEP. Added 27th Aug '19 at 07:26:55 PM, 11:0
You Are Not Alone, however, has dropped below the minimum 2:1 ratio (from votes being changed from Y to N), but to make sure it's stabilized I think we should wait on calling it until tomorrow. Added 24th Aug '19 at 06:04:38 PM,1.5:1 (10)

All your safe space are belong to TrumpNot exactly 24 hours, but close enough.
You Are Not Alone gained another N vote, bringing down the vote ratio further, so I think it can be called to keep RL examples. Added 24th Aug '19 at 06:04:38 PM; 1.2:1 (11)

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessAnyone know why Misaimed Fandom was made NRLEP? I'm gonna move it to a different folder because it's not really a narrative, characterization, or plot trope.

Limpin' with the bizkit.Real life does not have an audience or creator the same way works of fiction do... as far as we know.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Yeah that's true. Except Funny Moments, Moment of Awesome and Heartwarming Moments all have real life examples.
Limpin' with the bizkit.Anyone know why Artistic License – Paleontology had its RL examples deleted? I'm think of adding it's Real Life subpage to the Permanent Red Link Club if it was really bad.
Limpin' with the bizkit. As One-Winged Angel is added to the morality tropes section as it's a villain trope (it's a villain whose newer form is more monstrous), then I think its counterpart Bishōnen Line (villain becomes more and more humanlike as it becomes more powerful as opposed to monstrous in appearance) should also be added.
Since neither of those are actually possible in real life, I'm not sure why either needs adding, TBH.
We have a section for "Impossible in Real Life".
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! As we have Jerk with a Heart of Gold and Took a Level in Jerkass listed in the Morality Tropes section (it's Jerk stuff), should their opposites Bitch in Sheep's Clothing and Took a Level in Kindness also be added there.

One-Winged Angel is impossible irl, but it is a villain trope, particularly pertaining to the Big Bad. That's why I put it in Morality Tropes.
Limpin' with the bizkit.I believe Satanic Archetype and Messianic Archetype should be added to the Morality Tropes section as their related tropes The Antichrist and Anti Anti Christ are

Evil Jesuit has a real life section on it. While it doesn't list actual evil Jesuits, it instead talks about the bad reputation on them.
For all the "let's add these related trope" posts of late, for a while now this project has been getting away from listing something just because it's related to an already NRLEPed trope, partly in response to concerns about the project being too trigger-happy (I'm not exactly innocent here, either ).
Ultimately, the purpose of NRLEP is to take care of actual problems, not just "might be problems" or "related to problems".
All your safe space are belong to TrumpTalks Like As Imile Talks Like a Simile's RL section. Here are all four examples:
- Irish comedian Dylan Moran:
- [talking about 'The Rockafella Skank'] "I'm not saying it's a bad song. Or anything like that. I'm just saying that you could take a broom, dip it into brake fluid, put the other end up my arse and stick me on a trampoline in a moving lift and I would write a better song on the wall. That's all."
- [earlier] "This song sounded like a million fire engines being chased by ten million ambulances through a warzone and it was played at a volume that made the empty chair beside me bleed."
- (German) sounds like typewriters eating tinfoil being kicked down the stairs.
Insert into Stand-Up
- "Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think."
- Newscaster Dan Rather was famous for this.
- Jesus and his parables. Socrates, too.
- A stereotype of the Deep South.

The ZCEs can be nuked without losing anything (the southern one is even already mentioned in the trope description), but offhand I can't see anything really wrong with the first one, though putting it in a "Comedy" folder wouldn't be a terrible idea unless the comedian in question has been known to talk like that outside of his performance.

Crown Description:

To add a trope to a No Real Life Examples Please index or the Limited Real Life Examples Only index, its crowner option must meet the following criteria:- Stable 2:1 ratio needed for NRLEP or LRLEO
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple of extra days to see if more votes come in.
