YMMV / Natalya Neidhart

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Diva Dirt especially were left shaking their heads at the Raw after 2011's Royal Rumble where Natalya teamed with Eve Torres in a tag team match - when Eve had defeated her for the title the night before. Granted Natalya was a Face but she even saved Eve from an attack by LayCool.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: In the match to crown the first Divas' Champion, Michelle McCool defeated her rather easily with the MAD-T after only five minutes.
  • Audience-Alienating Era:
    • The entire year of 2012 could be considered one for her. She began the year with a rather tasteless farting gimmick, flip flopped from face to heel for about a month and jobbed to anyone not named Alicia Fox. Ironically her pairing with The Great Khali actually saved her career and she got a real boost in 2013.
Taimapedia: We have no idea who she pissed off, but they're powerful.
    • 2014 wasn't too kind to her either. While she did have good matches on NXT (and it was her that brought Charlotte Flair to the match that is considered the start of the Four Horsewomen era), the second season of Total Divas showed her in a very unflattering light - including a Narmy moment where she melodramatically wailed that she might miss work over a nose that wasn't even broken. A lot of fans stopped supporting her in the ring afterwards.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Her detractors despise her for perceived Narm in her promos and for being a bland character overall. However others find her to be one of the most talented (and misused) women to ever wrestle in WWE. This has only increased since the 'Women's Revolution', with people questioning whether Nattie is as good as the NXT women or was simply a big fish in a small pond among the other Divas.
  • Designated Hero: When it comes to her relationship drama on Total Divas, it's clear they want Natalya to be seen as the injured party (since on TV, she's the face and Tyson Kidd the heel). However in many arguments that the two have, it's usually Nattie getting annoyed and throwing tantrums for the most random things - and her narration doesn't really match what we see from TJ onscreen.
  • Estrogen Brigade: Despite being considered in the 'wrestler' category in the Diva Era, and therefore getting the respect of Smart Marks, she did have a large crop of female admirers; Diva Dirt writers in particular loved to Squee over Natalya's fashion sense. Notably an entire episode of Superstar Toys was devoted to Nattie showing off her shoe closet. The Divas of Doom period, where this was incorporated into her character, was prone to much talk about what she'd be wearing that week. The Bella Twins even called her one of the best dressed wrestlers on the roster.
  • Fan Nickname: Besides being called 'Nattie' even by wrestling columnists, a fan Red Baron for her is the 'Queen of Harts' - which has sometimes been referenced on TV.
  • Ham and Cheese: Moreso as a heel. She's hammy as a face too but tends to get serious more often.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During her Falls Count Anywhere Match with Nikki Bella, Nikki throws her headfirst through a mirror - prompting commentary to say "seven years of bad luck". Not only would Nattie win the match, but that would be the year she finally won another title.
  • Hollywood Pudgy: It was never used in storyline - except for LayCool making a couple of digs (that Natalya quickly returned) - but she herself was afraid she'd never get signed to WWE because she wasn't a skinny Diva. She recalls Beth Phoenix having to reassure her that "one day they'll be ready".
  • Hype Backlash: Especially when she was drafted to SmackDown in 2016. Notably against more grandiose characters like Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Carmella and Becky Lynch, Natalya came across as 'the boring one' as the serious wrestler. She eventually found her footing (see Author's Saving Throw above).
  • It's Popular, Now It Sucks!: Whenever she was in the Hart Dynasty or jobbing, numerous people would complain about her not getting pushed. Guess what their reactions are when she actually does get pushed.
  • Narm:
    • Comparing Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres to the WWE Universe wanting candy, and likening her and Beth Phoenix to vegetables.
    • Her frequent use of the expression "you better settle your tea kettle".
  • Narm Charm: Her period of bringing tissues down to the ring with her to make other Divas cry.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Melina turned heel on her at the end of 2010 after becoming the #1 contender. This could have made for some really interesting stuff, as the two had never faced each other before, and Melina had spent the last two years as a top Face. The fact that Natalya had accidentally prevented Melina from unifying the women's titles in the match by causing a distraction could have factored in - as well as the fact that Nattie defeated Melina's Arch-Enemy Michelle McCool, where she could not. Instead, the actual feud consists of tag matches, no mic time for Melina and a throwaway three-minute match on Raw.
    • The Divas of Doom storyline was highly anticipated to have either Natalya or Beth Phoenix turn face as the climax - leading to a highly anticipated match at WrestleMania. The storyline was ended because of backstage politics, Natalya became a Jobber for the whole of 2012, and her alliance with Beth quietly disappeared.
    • It was widely hoped among Diva fans that the feud between A.J. Lee and the cast of Total Divas would end with Natalya being the one to win the title. She and AJ had an incredibly well-received title match on Main Event, and another at TLC that seemed to be laying the groundwork for Natalya to finally win the title. Instead, she's dropped from the feud after a dirty win on AJ's part, Naomi becomes the next challenger and then she gets dropped in favor of Paige winning the title in her debut.
  • Villain Decay: During the Divas of Doom phase. It eventually lead to her having a long period as a Jobber. Happened earlier in the year 2008. She debuted as a contender for the Divas' Championship. However within a few months, she got Demoted to Extra in favour of Maryse.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Natalya, despite being a face, comes off particularly heelish whenever she does commentary. This isn't helped either by her participation in Total Divas, with one instance of Natalya complaining she should be the Diva's Champion purely because she was a Hart, not to mention the cases of her checking out and getting flirtatious if not dangerously close with men other than her fiancé-turned-husband Tyson Kidd, as well as behaving childishly towards him at times.
