Trivia / Natalya Neidhart

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: Benefited from this when the Hart Dynasty split and was integrated into the women's division. In a twist, her breakout happened alongside the break-up instead of after it. Fitting, considering her dad was the victim of Bret Hart's Breakup Breakout. DH Smith was eventually released a few months afterwards, and Tyson Kidd floundered on the lower mid card for a few years before enjoying some resurgence thanks to Total Divas until a horrific neck injury cut his career short.
  • Career Resurrection:
    • Ironically her pairing with The Great Khali. Before she had been mostly a Jobber. This turned her face and opened up more opportunities to get over with fans, not to mention more wins. Overall she was taken a lot more seriously than she had been in the ring before.
    • Her spot on Total Divas really gave not only her career a boost, but also that of her fiancé-turned-husband Tyson Kidd, as the two began getting a lot more character attention and established themselves as a solid act.
  • Corpsing: Beth Phoenix had an unfortunate Wardrobe Malfunction on Smackdown and Natalya tries to cover up with a look of outrage but some chuckles seep through.
  • Costume Backlash: She hated the red hair she sported for the first year of her WWE career, as she was forced to do it by management.
  • Doing It for the Art: Natalya wanted to be part of WWE for years, and continued to lobby to be hired, even when she was turned down for not having the Hollywood Thin physique that was favoured at the time. According to the Bella Twins' autobiography, she was one of many who were not likely to be hired by WWE, but were kept in developmental because they helped work with the newer girls.
  • Dye Hard: Her natural hair color is blonde, but she dyed it red for a time. She is currently blonde, but with a pink streak appearing in her hair, in honor of her uncle Bret Hart.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Summer Rae has said that Nattie didn't know she was going to get slapped in their famous Total Divas altercation.
  • Funny Character, Boring Actor: Inverted. Her in-ring persona is usually quite serious, aside from her occasional Evil Is Hammy phases. Total Divas and interviews show that outside the ring she's much more of a goof ball and just as crazy as the rest of the Hart family.
  • He Also Did: Nattie is also a columnist in addition to her career as a wrestler.
  • Hostility on the Set: There have been rumors that Natalya and A.J. Lee were on bad terms in 2013 after AJ's infamous promo on the Total Divas cast - and that Natalya was legitimately offended by what AJ had said. Eagle eyed smarks noticed that the two unfollowed each other on Twitter in 2013 (and AJ was still following Kaitlyn and Naomi, making it unlikely that it was kayfabe). Natalya in an interview in 2014 praised Paige for remaining grounded in spite of her big push, throwing a shade at another Diva for letting the title win go to her head, with fans guessing she meant AJ.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle:
    • She sported red hair from mid-2008 until early 2009 because she was told she looked too similar to Beth Phoenix. She reverted to blonde upon the formation of the Hart Dynasty, and a pink streak was added.
    • She eventually stopped using the pink streak because it kept washing out and she found it annoying to keep redoing.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Jessica Simpson's "These Boots Are Made For Walkin" in WWE's FCW.
  • Romance on the Set: A rare wrestler/wrestler example that's subverted. Despite working alongside in several promotions besides the WWE, it wasn't the impetus for Nattie and TJ's relationship, since they had known each other long before they had even become wrestlers.
  • Throw It In!:
    • The farting gimmick was apparently pitched as a joke. The writer who thought of it was shocked when they actually started using it on TV.
    • According to Nattie, she can't scream or yell too loud, so she started saying "you guys!" at the end of matches to make up for it.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Divas of Doom storyline was meant to go on longer than it did - with Kaitlyn turning heel to become the third member of the stable. It was strongly suspected that Natalya would eventually turn face to feud with Beth Phoenix over the title. According to a former writer "some other Diva drama" came up and the whole storyline was stopped.
    • Becky Lynch was meant to turn heel on her after their tag match at Money in the Bank 2016, but it was changed to Natalya at the last minute.

General Trivia:

  • Natalya is the only female graduate of the Hart Family's famous wrestling school The Dungeon. This is mainly because she was the only female allowed to be trained there, due to being a member of the Hart Family herself — other prospective trainees were deferred to other trainers by her grandfather Stu Hart.
