Trivia / Krypton

  • Acting for Two: Blake Ritson plays both Brainiac and the Voice of Rao (even before the latter is possessed by Brainiac).
  • Flip-Flop of God: Early in development,David S. Goyer indicated the show was set in the DC Extended Universe ("200 years before Man of Steel"). Geoff Johns later clarified the show is set in its own Alternate Continuity (he said that when he was retooling the DCEU after being appointed chairman of DC Films).
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Two Sagitari actresses, Ann Ogbomo (Jayna-Zod) and Andrea Vasiliou (Kol-Da), played Amazons in Wonder Woman and Justice League.
  • In Memoriam: SyFy included this note after the end of "Hope", the 9th episode of season 1, on May 16th, 2018:
    1948-2018
You can fly. You belong in the sky.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Intentionally or not, a first trailer was revealed on April 18, 2017 (it was leaked apparently, as it was quickly pulled off from video platforms as the series was undergoing reshoots, with important narrative and aesthetic changes, which incidentally divorced it from the DCEU). The first issue of Action Comics, which marked the first appearance of Superman, was published on April 18, 1938 (even though the cover is dated from June of that year).
  • Recycled Premise: A Syfy (formerly Sci-Fi Channel) original prequel series about another world and its people and society, many years before the inevitable end which formed the origin story of a franchise. (So the casting of Paula Malcomson as Charys-El might not have been coincidence.)
  • What Could Have Been:
    • If the show had truly been (or stayed) canonical to the DC Extended Universe, it would have marked the universe's first expansion into television, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The leaked trailer had a House of El symbol and key technology quite similar (but not identical) to the DCEU ones, while the final show combines the extra line detail of the movie's symbol with the classic proportions of the usual comics version, scraps the key technology altogether, and makes some clear visual references to the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Also, General Zod has been race-lifted and acts very little like Michael Shannon's version, coming off more as a combination of Terence Stamp's portrayal (he even utters the famous "Kneel before Zod!" line in the Season One finale) and the comics version.
    • Jayna-Zod's name was initially reported as Alura-Zod. It may have been changed because Alura is the name of Supergirl's mother and she is a recurring character on the concurrent Supergirl show, to avoid confusion.
    • Cameron Cuffe was invited to reprise the role of Seg-El in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. This means that Krypton would also be part of The Multiverse in the Arrowverse. Unfortunately, the actor had to decline the invitation because of schedule appointments. It remains unclear whether the invitation was made before or after the cancellation of Krypton by Syfy, however.
    • Apparently, RegĂ©-Jean Page was considered for the role of Seg-El but was turned down for ethnicity concerns, implying that Superman cannot have a black grandfather. This was back when the show was still set in the DCEU, as Seg-El was planned to have a resemblance to Henry Cavill's Superman.
  • Word of Gay: According to Cameron Cuffe Kryptonians are all sexually fluid. In the show proper, however, only Nyssa has been confirmed as bisexual.
