Season 1
- Val-El is condemned to death for attempting to enlighten Kryptonians about threats from other worlds, and his family has been disgraced, condemned to become Rankless and forbidden to use their name because of this. And poor young Seg has to watch his grandfather Walk the Plank.
- Seg sees both of his parents die in front of him. He then breaks up with Lyta-Zod because it's her mother who killed them.
- Jayna-Zod is devastated following the arrest of her daughter Lyta.
- Rhom dies when Brainiac deactivates the parasitic sentry in her, with Val-El's Virtual Ghost unable to save her. It leaves only Kem to take care of Ona (until the latter is made Word of Rao, that is).
- When Seg learns the truth about Krypton that it is destined to be destroyed despite everything, he suffers a serious Heroic BSoD and feels betrayed by Adam Strange. Strange himself regrets the way things are fated to be, but pleads that things have to happen that way.
- After everything he went through to protect Ona, Kem can only watch in horror as she explodes, turned into a bomb by Brainiac.
- The first season ends on a cliffhanger: Seg gets sucked into the Phantom Zone along with Brainiac.
Season 2
- After having Brainiac stuck inside his head, Seg manages to have him removed and everything seems ok... Then Brainiac takes over the Fortress, calls his ship, and decides to instead kidnap Seg and Nyssa's child before warping off to parts unknown, with Seg and Nyssa powerless to stop him.
- Kem sacrifices himself by going back in the mine on Wegthor to seek the detonator, and makes sure Seg doesn't follow him by activating a force field. Then, right after finding and activating the detonator, Doomsday kills him by plunging his fist into his abdomen and beheading him. It's gut-wrenching, and only tempered by Kem's awesome and hilarious middle finger to Doomsday and triggering of the bomb.
- Doomsday's origin story is mostly Nightmare Fuel but the fact that he was an ordinary Kryptonian with a wife and a daughter who signed up to the program to save his world, and he was reduced to a monster.
- Worse still, when his wife returns to find him she is horrified by what he's become and while he is unable to speak he clearly remembers and recognizes her.
