SpongeBob in RandomLand

Original air date: 9/21/2019

SpongeBob and Squidward take a delivery to a dreaded town where the laws of logic no longer apply.

"SpongeBob in RandomLand" contains examples of:

  • 30 Minutes, or It's Free!: While SpongeBob and Squidward manage to deliver the krabby patty to Rodger the customer in RandomLand, he is already at the Krusty Krab to complain about his order being late and Mr. Krabs is forced to give it to him for free due to the "If it's late, it's free" policy.
  • Acid-Trip Dimension: Randomland is one, as well as a Cloudcuckooland.
  • Ascended Meme: The infamous fanfic Squidward's Suicide was briefly referenced as a Jump Scare.
  • Black Blood: For obvious reasons, the image of Squidward used for the Jump Scare only has the pupils red while the apparently running fluids are black.
  • Bowdlerise: The reference to the Red Mist creepypasta, with Squidward opening a door only to be jump scared by an image of a less bloody version of the iconic Red Mist Squidward thumbnail. Censors did not understand the reference when initially screening the episode, and the scene was subject to edits on future airings due to complaints from parents: the British airing cut the door entirely, while a U.S. rerun later changed the scene to a baby Squidward (a photo of a human baby with Squidward's face and colors pasted on it) pooping its diaper.
  • Cartoon Creature: Good luck figuring out what ANY of the citizens of RandomLand are meant to be.
  • Continuity Nod: The Krusty Krab has another Unreadable Disclaimer like it did in "Pickles".
  • Homage: The title and general plot is one to Porky in Wackyland (itself a homage to Alice in Wonderland) as well as the comics by the episode writer Kaz (who designed the titular neighborhood and residents).
  • I Resemble That Remark!: "Good Neptune, you're hideous!"
  • Iris Out: The episode ends like this, combined with the worm from earlier coming out in front of the black screen and smiling with the word END in his teeth.
  • Luminescent Blush: Squidward has this when looking at a picture of a female squid.
  • Mistaken from Behind: SpongeBob and Squidward escape RandomLand by following what appears to be Mr. Krabs. When they reach the Krusty Krab, it turns out to be the RandomLand citizen who they were supposed to deliver the krabby patty to.
  • Read the Fine Print: Mr. Krabs tries to hide the 30 Minutes, or It's Free! policy by putting it in microscopic text at the bottom of the menu. Like the Money Back Guarantee disclaimer in "Pickles", somebody notices it.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Some of the monsters in RandomLand appear to be half-dinosaur and half-Ramone.
    • The first door Squidward opens features himself, SpongeBob, and Patrick in the deranged style of a comic Kaz illustrated for Nickelodeon Magazine. Adam Paloian describes the second door, of an ugly Squidward, a nod to Basil Wolverton's cartooning style.
    • At one point, SpongeBob laughs like the Canadians in South Park.
  • Spoonerism: SpongeBob and Squidward speak like this as a result of being in RandomLand.
  • Unreadable Disclaimer: The Krusty Krab's literally microscopic "If it's late, it's FREE!"
  • Wackyland: This is a no-brainer since the episode pays homage to Porky in Wackyland.

SpongeBob's Bad Habit

Original air date: 9/21/2019

SpongeBob can't stop biting his nails, but he also can't figure out why.

"SpongeBob's Bad Habit" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: It's important to control bad habits, or they could affect your life.
  • Brick Joke: Squidward tells SpongeBob about his unlucky life near the beginning of the episode. During his hypnotherapy session later on, SpongeBob repeats everything Squidward told him, causing Hans to realize he got the nail-biting habit from Squidward.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: As he falls under hypnosis and Hans orders him to "Watch the watch.", SpongeBob repeats Hans's words and accent by saying "Vatch the vatch."
  • Bungled Hypnotism: SpongeBob ultimately results to visiting Hans, who is working as a hypnotherapist, who reveals he got the nail-biting habit from Squidward. However, Hans' order to get SpongeBob to stop is "Your habit to bite your nails will poof! Disappear." Due to a case of Exact Words, SpongeBob no longer has a habit of biting his nails, he now has a habit of biting other people's nails instead, as seen when he bites Hans' once he sees him in the full light.
  • The Bus Came Back: Hans appears for the first time since "Model Sponge".
  • Continuity Nod: This wasn't the first time SpongeBob had hypnotherapy for a one-episode problem.
  • Exact Words: Hans' suggestion for SpongeBob is "Your desire to bite your nails will disappear." Once SpongeBob sees him in the light, he bites his nails instead.
  • Foreshadowing: Note that SpongeBob's nail-biting habit starts after Squidward tells him about his awful life.
  • Here We Go Again!: In the end, Hans manages to use hypnotherapy to cure SpongeBob's nail-biting habit after he confesses he got it from Squidward, but once SpongeBob sees him in the full light, he catches the habit again for himself and bites Hans' nails.
  • Hypno Pendulum: Hans uses one to hypnotize SpongeBob.
  • Laughing Mad: SpongeBob does this as he starts biting other people's nails.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: SpongeBob has these during hypno therapy.
  • Misophonia Gag: The short opens with the customers at the Krusty Krab chewing loudly and making disgusting noises. This slowly bothers Squidward, until he finally screams out loud about how much he hates the place.
  • No Ending: The episode ends with SpongeBob still not over his nail-biting habit, with no explanation how he did by the next episode.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Parodied with Fred when SpongeBob bites his nails.
    Fred: MY NAILS!
  • Rapid-Fire Nail Biting: SpongeBob's nail biting habit dominates the entire episode, with one of those instances even providing the page image.
  • Reflective Eyes: When SpongeBob sees a little boy's glove balloon, it reflects into his eyes.
  • Wingding Eyes: When attempting to record Squidward, SpongeBob's eyes become spinning camera tapes.
