♫SEVEN FOOT FRAME, RATS ALONG HIS BACK♫
- Mirabel has her share of memes given how fun and relatable she is.
- Maybe your gift is being in denial. note A little girl's comeback when Mirabel claims she's just as special as the rest of the family, used whenever someone tell themselves something, despite heavy evidence to the contrary.
- Maribel, not Mirabel.note Latin-American audiences on social media wasted no time correcting Disney over their perceived typo and what is seen as a very odd name for a character in a Latin-American setting.
- Mirabel's true gift is therapy. note Fans have joked that Mirabel's gift was being the family therapist, due to her emotionally supporting the Madrigals and helping them express their worries and desires.
- Mirabel's true gift is Super-Speed. note During Mirabel's song after Antonio got his gift, everything goes in slow motion around her, prompting some viewers to joke that she has actually has Super-Speed as her gift.
- Mirabel Griffin. note Due to their similar appearances and status of being The Unfavorite to both of their families, it became very popular for fans to compare Mirabel to Meg Griffin from Family Guy.
- Bruno seems to have become the film's resident Fountain of Memes:
- We don’t talk about Bruno. note Posting comments about the song in posts about someone else named Bruno, like the character in Golden Wind or Bruno Mars.
- The first rule of Bruno is you do not talk about Bruno. The second rule of Bruno is you do NOT talk about Bruno. note Although not as prominent as the examples above and below, some have taken to combining the iconic line from Fight Club with the chorus of Bruno's song.
- "SEVEN FOOT FRAME, RATS ALONG HIS BACK" note Camilo's verse from the song above has been one of the most quotable lines among the fanbase, both for how well it's sung and how it delightfully compares and contrasts Bruno for what he truly is.
- Mirabel kicking down Bruno's hideout door accompanied by the latter's shocked expression has become a reaction image in some places on the internet.
- Everyone is a Bruno simp, no exceptions. note Bruno has a lot of female and male fans who find him attractive and endearing, to the point where a good portion of fanfics and fanart featuring him have him get together with self-inserts and OCs. As a result, it's become a joke amongst the fanbase that everyone who watches the movie has a crush on him.
- Bruno accidentally scaring a young Camilo. note A popular piece of fanon involves a very young Camilo sneaking into the kitchen for snacks at night, only to encounter an unintentionally frightening looking Bruno, who doesn't understand why his nephew is suddenly screaming or fainting. Which would explain Camilo's nightmare-ish depiction of him in the song.
- Bruno vibing to his own diss track. note If you pay attention during Dolores' part of We Don't Talk About Bruno you can see him traversing the bottom and top floors of Casita before he can be seen bobbing his head to the beat. As a result, it's become popular to joke that he enjoys the whole song, even though the majority of it is people spreading malicious rumors about him.
- IN YOUR WALL IN YOUR WALLS I'M LIVING IN YOUR WALLS note Spawned from Bruno's living situation throughout most of the movie.
- Bruno is Sid and/or Luigi.ExplanationBruno's voice actor, John Leguizamo, previously played both Sid in the Ice Age franchise and Luigi in the live-action Super Mario Bros. (1993) film. The notoriety of both prior roles (especially Luigi, given that the live-action Mario film is regarded as one of the biggest So Bad, It's Good movies of the 1990s) led to a number of jokes comparing Bruno to both characters.
- Skrunkly Rat Mannote A variation of Bruno's fan-nickname that's become popular to call him in tags and comment sections.
- Bruno breaking through a wall head first while wearing Jorge's bucket shared a lot as an out of context clip.
- "I am Hernando and I'm scared of nothing" and "I'm Jorge, I make the spackle." have quickly became memetic for being hilarious non-sequiturs. With the latter getting a lot of laughs out of viewers.
- Treating Hernando and Jorge as separate people from Bruno rather than just personas he made up.
- Bruno was framed/It was Hernando all along! note Fans like to joke that it was the Hernando persona who ruined Pepa’s wedding due to Bruno appearing with his hood up during her and Felix's section of the song.
- Bisexuals/Pansexuals like women like Luisa and men like Bruno, no exceptions. note Bi and Pan fans like to poke fun at themselves for having "predictable" crushes on the two characters who are an Amazonian Beauty and a svelte disaster of man who's Older Than They Look respectively; As both mark boxes for what the majority of the two communities (in the states at least) consider conventionally attractive.
- Jokes about Lin-Manuel Miranda being prevented from voicing Bruno. explanationIt was noted that Bruno's rap in "All of You" clashed in tone and felt out of place with the rest of the song. Fans quickly joked that Miranda wrote this with intention of voicing and rapping as Bruno himself.
- What did Bruno ever do to Disney?note Bruno being the forgotten and ostracized family member of the Madrigals (to the point where one of the songs in the film is titled "We Don't Talk About Bruno"), immediately brought to mind the iconic "Silenzio, Bruno!" line from Luca. Some joke about this being a case of Production Foreshadowing (unlikely given that Luca was made by Pixar animation studios, not Disney animation), or just someone at Disney apparently really not liking people named Bruno.
- Dehydrated Bruno. note As soon as images of the graphic novel began being shared online fans took to making fun to the changes made to Bruno's character design from the movie, namely the change in his face shape and the fact that he looks hideously dehydrated.
- The inherent irony of the song being titled "We Don't Talk About Bruno", when the fandom seems to talk about nothing but Bruno.
- Dolores being one of the nicer and reasonable members of the family with a cute design led her to become popular as well:
- "Oh, Mirabel didn't get one. Hm."note Her first line, which establishes her Brutal Honesty and how she doesn't mince anything with her super hearing allowing her to hear all secrets.
- "--And they were roommates!" "Oh my God, they were roommates." note Bruno's rat theater, as well as Dolores canonically knowing he never left the Casita due to her super hearing, has resulted in the popular idea of her listening in on his shows and reacting to the plot lines he plays out with his rat friends.
- An extension of the above would be Bruno and Dolores talking through the walls. While it's occasionally used for angst, the vast majority of the fanbase use it for gags between the two. Here's an example.
- I never realized she was holding a plate with corn in this scene.note A Twitter gimmick account tweeted this in regards to Dolores. This got mocked by Fan Haters who believe that Encanto fans are running out of content and are now grasping at straws. The screenshot got edited to have Dolores hold other things like a pipe bomb. Some have also noted that they're ears of corn, while her gift is super hearing, for a reason why one would point it out.
- Cornplating. ExplanationA fan-term that spawned from the above meme, referring to when people run out of obvious things to talk about in their favorite works and start talking about really obscure and inconsequential things.
- "Turn it Down" note A fan-made musical number written for Dolores in the same vein as "Surface Pressure" for Luisa, featuring Dolores hearing everyone's worries and wanting an escape from her power with layered chatter in the background to depict her overwhelming sensation. The song caught on for not only being catchy and cleverly-produced and fitting well with the songs in the film, but also for having writing credits and lead vocals from Adassa, Dolores' voice, herself.
- Isabela:
- MATERIAL GOWRLnote No, not the Madonna song, but the Saucy Santana song became popularly associated with Isabela, practically being her theme song as it's a Boastful Rap paired along with a Lovable Alpha Bitch.
- "Did someone say...flowers?" 🌺🌸💐🌹🌷🌻note This line which marks her entrance and Establishing Character Moment became memetic where it's her unofficial Catchphrase and being so full of herself at the time that anytime anyone mentions "flowers" expect Isabela to pop up or other fans to quote this line. It's also notable because the script contains a stage direction for this scene where Isabela descends "like a goddamn angel".
- Isabela is Lucy.note Isabela's Japanese voice actress, Aya Hirano, is most well-known, among other roles, for voicing Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail, and uses a similar refined, formal voice (essentially the Japanese equivalent of the Received Pronunciation (RP) accent in British English) for Isabela, only dropping it when she gets angry.
- Luisa:
- McDonald's Luisa can hold anything. note There are many TikTok videos of a McDonald's tie-in happy meal toy of Luisa holding up large objects that such a small toy logically shouldn't be able to do - notably, one video has her holding up the corner of a couch. Even funnier, this meme holds many similarities to another from 2010 featuring a happy meal figurine of Sasuke Uchiha that could allegedly balance anything on its head.
- A particular image of Luisa frowning while at the dinner table is a popular ironic reaction image. Sometimes the image gets stretched to comical proportions.
- Alma:
- "THE MAGIC IS STRONG!"note This particular line from Abuela has become a running meme in edits of the movie, usually with the final word being disproportionately louder than the rest, due to how untrue it is. It's often followed up with her next line, "and so are the drinks!"
- The real miracle was the Abuela apologizing.note Fans who grew up in Hispanic/Latino families consider Alma apologizing for her toxic behavior and making an effort to change to be the biggest miracle of the movie. This is on account of how many of their Real Life grandparents or older family members are too prideful and would rather die than admit to their own mistakes to their families like Alma did.
- Mariano:
- Markianonote It's a popular joke to compare Markiplier and Mariano to each other, mostly because of their similar looks and the fact that, just like Mariano, Mark broke his nose twice in a short span of time.
- "Avocado?" note Mariano offering Mirabel a bowl of avocado dip during the dinner scene while she and Dolores are having their staring contest is referenced a lot. Mostly due to how hilariously suave and seductive he sounds while saying a word like "avocado".
- "Water~?" note Shortly after, Isabela also offering Mirabel a pitcher of water in a sweet soft voice also became memetic.
- Mariano's walk during the We Don't Talk About Bruno number has gained popularity due to how silly it looks.
- "Gremlin Camilo" note Camilo's DreamWorks Face on his character poster and several◊ toys depict him as a mischievous or even slimy character, closer to his original character concept of an "angry teen." His actual personality in the film is laidback and fun-loving, leading to many jokes that the Ensemble Dark Horse was done dirty by the advertising of the film. "Look how they massacred my boy!"
- Comparing Pepa and Felix to Morticia and Gomez Addamsnote Despite being on opposite ends of the color spectrum, fans love to compare the two couples given their rich chemistry and how much the partners genuinely adore each other.
- Enchantonote A YouTube Poop by TheStarFishy that became popular and frequently referenced by Encanto fans for how it hilariously flips the message of the original film on its head.
- Bubonote Bubo is a cut character from the film who would have been in a secret relationship with Isabela. His character has been widely mocked by fans for being a nerdy loser who had some uncomfortable deleted scenes. People have made memes insulting him, often exaggerating their hatred of him to comedic levels. Some even jokingly put in a trigger warning for any mention of Bubo or censor his name.
- No sounds allowed out of you! note An additional line that fans have added after Isabela's "Hey sis, I want not a sound out of you" in "We Don't Talk About Bruno", due to it having a similar composition to Pepa's "There was not a cloud in the sky" earlier, to which Felix replies "No clouds allowed in the sky!"
- The real villain is Generational Trauma.note Referencing the fact that the film has no clear-cut villain, along with the reveal that Alma's actions were driven by her ongoing trauma from seeing her husband get slain right in front of her. And given that similar themes appeared in Turning Red the following year, some are saying that it might become a new trend in Disney's animated films just as twist villains were in the 2010's.
- "Were you the damn bird? Of course you were the bird."ExplanationAlan Tudyk posted a tweet about his daughter's thoughts about the movie. His Firefly costar Jewel Staite tweeted this reply to him as a joke about him playing birds in both this movie and Moana.
- Stan Twitter: Teleserye Fights.ExplanationMany short videos from various Filipino telenovelas compiling various Cat Fight(s) from many different series has many people in the comments and in the descriptions of the videos referring to the fights as something the Madrigals would get into. With most of them comparing the scenarios to Mirabel and Isabela's conflict.
