Fanfic / Danny Phantom: Bewitched

Go To

Bewitched is the 22nd story in Stranded. Misty is back with yet another attempt to split Danny and Star, but someone seems to have ulterior motives to help her.

Tropes:

  • Abduction Is Love: Misty sees no problem with kidnapping Danny and dragging him to China. Granted, it's heavily implied it may be due to Wufong's influence on her.
  • Accidental Hero: Mei unknowingly interrupts Misty when the latter tries to cast a spell to switch places with Star. According to the spell book, it'll take one year before Misty can try that again.
  • Aesop Amnesia: After being freed from the love potion's effects, Vlad still thinks it's a good idea to plot revenge against Puck despite the fairy going out of his way to demonstrate why it's a BAD idea to mess with him.
  • All-Loving Hero: While he's horrified and angered after Misty kidnaps him and reveals what she's been up to, Danny still hopes to save her from Wufong and herself because it's the right thing to do, despite knowing his friends might disagree.
  • Alphabetical Theme Naming: When coming up with name suggestions for children she might have with Danny, she suggests names that start with either her first initial (Mason, Michael or Monty) or his (Derek, Davis or Damien).
  • And the Rest: After her encounter with Team Phantom at the mall, Misty says, "Bye, Danny... and the others...", with her tone even changing from pleasant to neutral. Sam and Valerie are not impressed.
  • Anti-Villain: Even after everything Misty put him, Star, and his friends through, Danny believes she isn't really a villain, just prone to trusting the wrong people and being taken advantage of due to her insecurities.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism:
    • Misty lives "near a haunted town with its own super hero", practices sorcery, and talks to her own spell book but refuses to believe fairies exist or that Danny can both a ghost and human until the book calls her out on this.
    • In spite of living near a haunted town that has its own superhero, Mei refuses to believe her mother's tales of magic until Suyin brings up the ghost angle.
  • Badass Family: Misty's entire family bands together to stop Wufong and by the end of the story, they all decide to continue practicing magic.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Wufong explains to Danny that he tricked Misty into thinking she'll be casting a spell on Danny that would free him from the love spell he's supposedly under but in reality, will make him completely obedient to her.
  • Brutal Honesty:
    • When Misty learns the truth about the spell she cast on Danny, Wufong bluntly confirms that the only way Danny can reciprocate her feelings is if she literally commanded him to, since the only "spell" he was under before was loving someone else of his own will.
    • Danny makes it clear that he'll never love Misty after this latest stunt that she's pulled.
  • Character Development: At the end of the story, Misty FINALLY lets go of her crush on Danny and accepts that they aren’t meant to be. It is also hinted that her mother will be less of a Control Freak from now on.
  • The Corrupter: The spell book towards Misty, to even greater lengths than Shi. As the story progresses, it goads her into crossing lines she previously wouldn't by feeding her jealousy and delusions, which also starts drawing her away from her family.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The book entity is capable of snide comments, like when he points out Misty's lack of impulse control and not thinking through her own plan.
  • Description Cut:
    • Misty says she can't imagine what it would be like to be under a love spell. Cut to Vlad making out with Alicia.
    • While captive, Danny wonders how a person could live with being forced to love someone they don't because of a spell. Once again, it cuts to Vlad and Alicia, having "canoodled" during a lunch date.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When Danny and Star are inside a music store, Misty casts a noisy spell that involves replacing the rock in the store store with polka. She does this in an effort to make Star leave so she can have Danny for herself. Misty doesn't account for the possibility of the noise making Danny leave with Star.
  • Entitled to Have You: Misty's obsession with Danny has grown worse to the point she thinks it's their "destiny" to be together. Justified as Wufong has been manipulating her by using her feelings for Danny to suit his own agenda.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: After learning of Misty's horrific deeds, Lao Lao still believes her granddaughter has a good heart and would never do such things of her own accord without being used by someone with bad intentions. She insists to Team Phantom that Misty is at a vulnerable point in her life and just needs her loved ones to help her come back to her senses and stop her from going down the wrong path. When facing Misty, her family actively tries to talk her down from her plans, imploring that this isn't who she really is and they can work through their problems together. Ultimately, they're proven right when Misty breaks away from Wufong's influence to rejoin her family after she accidentally hurts Max and realizes what she's becoming.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • In spite of everything Misty did or tried to do to take Danny from Star, she draws the line at using love spells until the book convinces her that Danny only keeps dating Star because he's under another spell.
    • Even Wufong hates Shi for being a disgrace to their family's name and is glad Team Phantom got rid of him.
    • Misty tells Wufong that she will not sleep with Danny (or anyone) unless they are her husband first. Much less get pregnant at such a young age.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Thanks to her unstable mindset and Insane Troll Logic, Misty deludes herself that Star must have Danny under a spell since all of her magical and non-magical means to break the couple up failed and only seemed to have brought them closer together even though Danny is "destined" to be with her. She refuses to accept that it's because Danny is truly in love with Star despite Misty's meddling.
  • Familial Body Snatcher: Wufong wants to possess the body of Misty and Danny's child so he'll have his family's magic and Danny's power.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Danny is an avid fanboy of an in-universe stand-in for The Legend of Zelda, even showing a common annoyance with fans who mistake Hylians for elves.
    • Star is also revealed to be a fan of a stand-in for Mario Party.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Misty breaks into Danny's home and, upon finding out Star is there, thinks Star is obsessed with Danny.
    • Misty is convinced Star placed a love spell on Danny because there's no other reason he would continue dating a girl who's a Doom Magnet with a Dysfunctional Family. Misty ignores that she is much more dangerous due to being responsible for Star's troubles in the first place and has her own share of baggage.
  • I Just Want to Be You: Misty is so envious of Star for the latter's wealth and boyfriend, she tries to hypnotize everyone into thinking each girl lives the other's life.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Misty actually believes Danny is only in a relationship with Star because she put him under a love spell. She bases this on her inability to scare Danny away from Star, the spell book sensing a powerful energy source from him (though the fair folk energy is actually from Puck), and not knowing how Star became Starlight Spirit.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Misty now knows fairies exist and that Danny is Danny Phantom.
    • Misty's family finds out she has magic and learn from Max about her infatuation with Danny. Star later tells them about Misty's past schemes with Shi and Colette.
    • Team Phantom learn Misty still has her spell book.
    • The rest of Misty's family finds out Danny's secret.
  • Mama Bear: Mei is willing to stand up to Wufong, Star, and Sam to protect Misty.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Wufong has been using Misty to do his bidding so he can transfer his soul into the body of their future newborn son.
  • More than Mind Control: In chapter 11, Wufong explains that when granting Misty more power, he put her under an influence that makes her more agreeable to him. However, her obsession with Danny is her own.
  • Properly Paranoid: Star's distrust of Misty is hardly unjustified given that her past antics have endangered Team Phantom and the entire city more than once, plus she has lied to them by hiding her involvement and feigning amnesia. The fact that she's still up to her old tricks only further proves Star is right to dislike and be suspicious of her. After a day of unexplained incidents targeting her and Danny, and upon learning he was spotted in Elmerton, Star suspects Misty may be up to something and rushes there. Sure enough, she finds his phone left behind and when Tucker hacks the traffic cameras, they learn Misty kidnapped Danny.
  • Pragmatic Hero: The main reason Team Phantom agree to let Misty keep her spell book in the end is so she can help them with magical threats in the future, since her powers could've been useful in the past and she's easier to find, and less volatile, than Puck.
  • The Reveal: The entity in Misty's spell book is Wufong, the founder of the Yang clan and one of its original magic users. He was an evil sorcerer who abused his powers and was killed by his descendants, but transferred his soul into the spell book before his body was destroyed. Since then, he's been trying to guide his descendants into creating the right host to free him so he can restore his clan.
  • Shipper on Deck: Misty's little brother Max ships her and Danny after finding out about his powers since he finds the thought of having a superhero for a brother-in-law cool.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Wufong tells Danny that he wants him and Misty to have kids so he can transfer his essence into one of them to be reborn and make his clan great again.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stalker with a Test Tube: After finding out about Danny's ghost powers, Misty becomes interested in the possibility of their children inheriting her magic and his abilities.
  • Take Over the World: This is Wufong's ultimate plan after acquiring a new body.
  • Tantrum Throwing: In chapter 4 after one of her failed attempts to humiliate Star in front of Danny, Misty yells and kicks a garbage can in anger. In the next chapter, following all her unsuccessful attempts and an outburst at her family, Misty goes to her room, soundproofs the area, and screams in frustration while repeatedly destroying her lamp.
  • Title Drop: Chapter 4 ends with Misty's spell book telling her Danny will be bewitched by her. Also in chapter 5, it suggests to Misty that Danny is already bewitched by Star.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Once again, Misty, who Wufong tricks into preparing a potion that will make Danny completely obedient to her by lying that it will free him from Star's spell. Misty is unaware that Wufong is only helping her get together with Danny so she will bear a son with both magical and ghost powers whose body he can reincarnate in, enabling him to Take Over the World.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Star does NOT take it well when she finds out Misty kidnapped Danny.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: After the love potion's effects wear off, Vlad runs into the bathroom to vomit from being touched by Alicia, especially while kissing.
  • Yandere: Partly due to Wufong's influence, Misty edges closer to this trope as she grows more deranged in her desire for Danny and unhinged at her failure to gain his love. She's also become possessive of him to the point of seeing not just Star, but Danny's sister and friends as "obstacles" he should abandon for her. Misty eventually resorts to kidnapping Danny to finally make him reciprocate her feelings so he'll marry her in the future. Even Wufong acknowledges that her "love" is more lust and obsession than anything.
