Fanfic / Cinnamon and Spaghetti

Go To

Cinnamon and Spaghetti is a My Hero Academia Crack Fic by The_Plauge_Dragon on Archive of Our Own.

Out of all the Quirks Izuku could have been born with, he received one that, for all intents and purposes, made him the Eldritch Abomination antagonist of The Thing (1982). Izuku, being the cinnamon roll he is, decides to become a hero with this power no matter what everyone says about it, and with the help of his friend and family, sets out to prove that what really makes a hero is not the power they have, but the heart that propels them to help others.

Tropes used in this fic:

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Asami Toga not only denies Himiko of blood vital to her Quirk and mental health, but also beat her and carved the word “vampire” on her chest.
    • Endeavor is an even worse father to his family than canon, having (maybe) immolated Toya when he tried to defy his will and plans on using Fuyumi as a breeding machine in case Shoko didn’t use her Quirk’s fire-related half.
  • Adaptational Badass: Izuku has a quirk that basically makes him the Thing, allowing him to impersonate others with ease and use every part of his body as a weapon.
  • Adaptation Deviation: Humarise takes Stain's place as the primary antagonist of the Hosu arc, with the events of said story arc being kickstarted by Stain alerting Tensei on Humarise's plan to unleash Calamity across Hosu through a gas attack.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Moonfish shows up long before his debut in the Training Camp arc as one of the patients in the mental hospital where Rei is confined at.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • Izuku is born with a Quirk that makes him the titular creature from The Thing (1982) instead of One for All.
    • Mirio Togata receives One for All from All Might.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Himiko Toga is Izuku’s classmate at UA rather than a member of the League of Villains.
    • Overhaul is the school doctor at UA after Recovery Girl went mad from all the operations she had to conduct just to keep All Might from dying to the injuries he received from All for One.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy
    • Mineta has no trace of his canon counterpart’s perversion and is even a gentleman towards his female classmates.
    • Stain leans closer to the Anti-Hero end of the moral spectrum and helps Ingenium fend off governmental forces led by Gravel during the Sports Festival.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Izuku has a lot more confidence than his canon self and, as his actions in the USJ incident demonstrate, is not afraid to use lethal force if the situation calls for it.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Neito Monoma was far from the nicest individual in canon, but this version of him is so corrupted by his own envy towards Class 1-A that he resorts to using Calamity during the Sports Festival just to gain an edge over his perceived rivals.
    • Endeavor in canon wanted to surpass All Might before he ate the Humble Pie and Took a Level in Kindness after All Might’s retirement. Endeavor here is a psychopath who will do anything to ensure that he can surpass All Might, up to planning to rape his daughter Fuyumi to create a better successor if Shoko failed to live up to his expectations.
    • The Japanese government in this story has made multiple attempts to either make Izuku their bio-weapon or kill him because of his Quirk, something that they wouldn’t even consider doing in canon.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Bakugo in canon was Izuku’s childhood friend turned bully. Bakugo in this story is Izuku’s childhood friend turned girlfriend who was also one of the few people who looked out for him before he went to UA.
    • Overhaul in canon was an Abusive Parent towards Eri and used her as a lab rat for his Quirk-destroying bullets. This version of Overhaul is a much kinder and nobler person who genuinely loves Eri and treats her like his own biological daughter.
  • Age Lift: UA is upgraded from a high school into a university, with the students aged up into university students.
  • Birds of a Feather: Shinso and Izuku bond over their shared experiences of experiencing discrimination over their “villainous” Quirks.
  • Bullying a Dragon: The Sludge Villain attempts to hijack Izuku’s body after he leaves Aldera. Izuku has none of that nonsense and promptly devours him.
  • Death by Adaptation:
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • All for One, despite being a villainous mastermind, is a loving father and husband towards his family and will see to it that they are not harmed.
    • According to Stain, no criminal gang will ever touch Calamity because any benefit it brings its users is outweighed by the fact that anyone who uses it is turned into an uncontrollable psychopath. Stain himself tried to eliminate its use by killing the person who was supposedly the only one that knew how to make it.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Midnight is enraged at the abuse Himiko suffered from her mother and immediately requests that UA give her the custody transfer documents needed to get Himiko out the clutches of her abusive mother.
    • Makoto Tsukauchi can barely restrain herself from murdering Asami Toga on the spot after hearing her constantly deny that she abused Himiko, even after Makoto’s Quirk confirms that Asami’s lying through her teeth about what she's doing to her child.
    • All the UA teachers are sickened by the events depicted in 72 Bloody Hours, especially since Izuku and Aizawa actually went through those events in real life.
  • Gender Flip: Shoko and Katsumi are genderbent counterparts to Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki.
  • Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex: Lampshaded by Katsumi, who notes to Izuku that they will have to make some changes to their planned session of Victory Sex after Monoma's rampage during the Sports Festival forced Nezu to end it early.
  • Government Conspiracy: The government has made many plans to use Izuku as their personal weapon of mass destruction, none of which have been successful.
  • Henpecked Husband: Played for Drama in the case of Isao Toga, who has been so beaten down by his wife's emotional and psychological abuse that he can't even muster the will to kill her with the knife he hid in his pant pocket.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Izuku has quite a few attributes that make him seem a bit off compared to regular people thanks to his Quirk. Having complete control over every cell in his body is just one out of his many Lovecraftian Superpowers.
  • Kill It with Fire: The only thing that can really harm Izuku other than Eri’s ability to rewind things is the judicious application of fire to incinerate every last trace of his biomatter.
  • Mook Horror Show:
    • The Japanese government conducted Operation Eliminate Spaghetti Monster in one last attempt to make Izuku their attack dog or kill him. Izuku then proceeded to put the kill team sent to eliminate him and his loved ones through a three-day massacre that could best be described as the Thing having a field day.
    • As in canon, the League of Villains shows up to attack Class 1-A at the USJ. Unfortunately for them, Izuku is not in the mood to let anyone threaten his classmates and immediately turns the whole attack into an all-you-can-eat buffet.
  • Point of Divergence: Due to Shigaraki being out of commission after Stain taught him how to deal with taes, Humarise replaces the League of Villains as the greater antagonist of the Hosu arc.
  • Psycho Serum: Calamity is a drug that, as one commentor descrbes, is “super Trigger mixed with Joker Toxin” for good reason: as Stain puts it, one dose of the thing is capable of twisting All Might into a rampaging monster, and Monoma gets to demonstrate its effects in horrifying fashion during the Sports Festival.
  • Related in the Adaptation: All for One is Izuku’s father.
  • Roman à Clef: All Might writes a horror novel titled 72 Bloody Hours that, apart from changing the names of Izuku and Aizawa, is a word-for-word transcription of Operation Eliminate Spaghetti Monster’s after-action report.
  • Seen It All: The Midoriyas and Bakugos hardly bat an eye towards some of the crazier events in the story thanks to having lived with the weirdness of Izuku’s Quirk for a long time.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Eraserhead is traumatized by the events of Operation Eliminate Spaghetti Monster and has a hard time keeping himself composed around Izuku. Witnessing Midoriya fighting against and defeating Neito Monoma during the 1-B student’s rampage in the Sports Festival manages to cure him of that lingering fear.
  • Villain Killer: So far, Izuku has killed an entire black ops kill team sent to kill him and his loved ones, the Sludge Villain, all of the Mook-level villains who took part in the USJ attack, and one Neito Monoma who went insane after taking Calamity.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Humarise is described as such by Tensei due to their massive influence and wealth hiding their true nature as a cult with plans of world domination.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend:
    • Gender Inverted Izuku is fiercely protective towards Katsumi and is very much willing to murder anyone who dares threaten her, as the black ops team who tried to eliminate her along with her family found out.
    • Katsumi is just as protective towards Izuku as Izuku is to her and takes no shit from anyone who denigrates him thanks to her experiences with seeing Izuku be discriminated against for his supposedly "evil" power.
  • Your Head Asplode: Izuku’s head explodes from pure embarrassment after his dad asks if he and Katsumi have hit third base yet.
