Fanfic / Class B's Cinnamon Roll

Go To

Izuku Midoriya was so happy to finally make into U.A. High, the hero school of his dreams. There he shall face many hard trails and agonizing challenges for the next three years. Thankfully, he can count on his new classmates from Class 1-B.

Class B's Cinnamon Roll is a My Hero Academia fanfic written by JaytheStar that features a What If? story of Izuku being a part of Class 1-B instead of 1-A.

It can be read on here on FanFiction.Net and here on Archive of Our Own.

Note: FFN has the more recent updates of the story.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • 100% Heroism Rating: After entering U.A.'s doors, Izuku slowly but quickly began gaining the respect of all his classmates and teachers through his hard work and heroic spirit. This took a step even further after he won the Sports Festival and later singlehandedly defeated the Hero Killer Stain. Due to all his achievements, mass amounts of the public are hoping that he's allowed to take the Provisional License Exam a year early.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Aside from Monoma, Izuku's all but on good terms with everyone in Class 1-B except Monoma in canon. Here, due to them being in the same class, they are all considered to be good friends.
    • In particular, Izuku is best friends with Ochaco and Tenya in canon. Here, due to being in Class B, his best friends are Reiko and Neito with the former being his Love Interest.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Unlike canon, Izuku was able to achieve Full Cowling at the climax of the USJ arc and during the Hero Killer arc, his efficiency with One For All was enough for him to fight and defeat Stain singlehandedly.
    • Downplayed with the rest of Class 1-B; but Izuku's Awesomeness by Analysis is slowly starting to rub off on them, making them more aware of certain things others would miss out on. This was how Tetsutetsu was able to defeat Eijiro at the Sports Festival by thinking of a plan of attack and Reiko was able to tell that overusing his ice was causing Shoto discomfort and that he couldn't use both his fire and ice at the same time.
    • Reiko is shown to become far stronger thanks to the encouragement of Izuku and her friends as she was able to formulate a plan to successfully disarm Snipe during the Final Exams and unleash a powerful super move: Mystic Mindstorm.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • The majority of Class 1-B only show up in the Sports Festival Arc. Due to Izuku being a student of 1B, they are shown much earlier here.
    • After the incident at the USJ, Gran Torino shows up way early to train not just Izuku, but all the students of Class 1-B.
    • In canon, Toga only shows up at the end of the Hero Killer arc. Here, she shows up in the middle of it.
    • The vestiges of OFA show up to Izuku in a dream after his fight against Stain whereas they only showed up in a dream after the Cultural Festival.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Aizawa doesn't even give Izuku a chance to prove that he deserves a place in the Hero course, immediately stating that the boy is reckless and will die in the field. To his credit, he eventually sees that Izuku has what it takes to be a hero.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Monoma takes every opportunity to antagonize Class 1-A in canon. Here, he remains polite and friendly to Izuku and his classmates, only yelling at Class A when Bakugo or Iida falsely accuse or trouble his friends.
  • Always Someone Better: Stain proves to be this to Aizawa.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Hound Dog rips one of Shoji's arms during their final exams. Thankfully, his Quirk allows him to regrow them.
  • Ascended Extra: Since Izuku is in Class 1-B, most of its students including Reiko and Monoma take center stage and their personalities receive more focus.
  • Boring, but Practical: To enhance the effects of his Quirk, Gran Torino has Manga look up various comic book sound effects on his phone.
  • Fast Ball Special: When they couldn't break past Cementoss's walls of cement, Shishida grabbed Tetsutetsu and Kirishima and threw them at the Pro Hero.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite Ochaco never meeting him personally, Izuku still chooses Deku as his Hero name.
    • While he doesn't form a friendship with Iida here; Izuku still goes out of his way to save him from Stain.
  • Not So Above It All: Reiko is usually very composed. But waking up and finding out that Izuku is holding her in a hug while asleep rendered her flustered.
  • Out of Focus: Due to the story centering around Class 1-B, Class A doesn't get screen time very often.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Only Class 1-A were attacked by the villains at the USJ. Here, both Class A and B went to the USJ and as a result, both classes got attacked by villains.
    • Due to mastering Full Cowling early on in the story, Izuku was able to perform much better in the Sports Festival and even won the whole tournament by defeating Bakugo in the Finals.
    • Due to joining Izuku's team in the Cavalry Battle, Reiko and Kinoko were able to win the second round of the Sports Festival and were able to take part in the One-on-One matches.
    • Kendo chooses to intern with Gunhead rather than Uwabami.
    • In canon, both Class 1A and 1B had their Final Exams taken separately. Here, they take it together; with the placement of teams being much different.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Compared to Aizawa who wasn't willing to give Izuku a chance, Kan wanted to help the boy achieve his potential by giving him a proper training routine to help control his Quirk and improve his performance.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Shigaraki can't Decay himself. Monoma takes advantage of that and copies his Quirk for the secondary power in a fight.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Izuku and Reiko
    • Monama and Tokage
    • Kuroiro and Komori
    • Shinso and Kendo
  • Team Member in the Adaptation: Izuku is a member of Class 1-B rather than 1A.
