Fan Fic / Star Scouts Constellation Crystals

Go To

Twins Lumine and Aether are regular students at Teyvat High School living with their aunt because their parents died many years ago. One day, they encounter a strange being on their way to school.

That's only the beginning when they discover they have secret powers as Star Scouts, guardians of the stars that protect the universe.

Under their new alias names Star Viator and Star Viatrix, the two team up with new allies to combat a dangerous new evil threatening the galaxy. While defending their hometown from invading threats, they make new friends (lots of them) and rescue other Star Scouts from the forces of darkness.

Even though their powers are all so new to them, that doesn't stop them from trying!

Star Scouts: Constellation Crystals is a Genshin Impact Alternate Universe fanfic written by M3gaUmbr30n and is largely inspired by Sailor Moon as well as various Superhero media.

Tropes about the work

  • 0% Approval Rating: The Lawrence family is much reviled by everyone, as per canon. Though unlike canon, Eula is eventually able to avert it for herself.
  • Abusive Parents
    • Eula's parents are definitely this. According to Eula herself, they not only treat her as "nothing more than a tool", but also offload all house chores to her. They even planned to take her brother on a vacation while leaving her behind at home to handle all the chores, with no thoughts as to how she's even going to feed herself in the meantime.
    • Frederica, Jean and Barbara's mother. Though not as bad as the Lawrences, she still qualify due to her scolding her children for anything they do at all that is short of total perfection. She even put Jean through an Arranged Marriage without so much as discussing with Jean about it first. In addition to all that, her pseudo-favoritism for Jean has led to an emotional wedge between Jean and Barbara.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: So many characters have their backstories changed that it'd be easier to count the number of characters who retained their canon backstories (even if swapping out Teyvat for Earth).
    • The most prominent example of this is Aloy, whose Genshin Impact self is the same one from Horizon: Zero Dawn, backstory and all, getting transported to Teyvat through unknown means. Here, all that is discarded in favor of a completely different backstory.
    • Fischl in canon is a Chuunibyou identity that Amy came up for herself, with the Immernachtreich being a make-believe kingdom that she created for that identity. Here, the Immernachtreich is very real, and her name really is Fischl.
  • Adaptational Context Change: In canon, the Hilichurls, Abyss Order, and Ruin Machines are all separate factions, with the only part of their backgrounds they share being that they all originated from Khaenri'ah. Here, aside from them all being a single faction, they also have nothing to do with Khaenri'ah.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In terms of the Abyss Order's hierarchy, the heroes encounter an Abyss Herald and Lector first before any Abyss Mages and even Hilichurls if you count the latter as part of the Order.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Though the Harbingers still perform acts of villainy, it's because they are just Brainwashed and Crazy. Prior to that, they were revered by the Star Scouts as heroes, and even joins the heroes upon being cured.
  • Adaptation Name Change
    • The Unknown God's real name in canon is Asmoday, according to the game's resource files. Here her name is Celestia.
    • The Harbingers have their real names and codenames switched around. For example, Signora's codename is Rosalyne, when in canon it's the other way around.
  • Adaptational Villainy: While the Unknown God is Ambiguously Evil in canon, this story makes it clear that she, here named Celestia, is 100% an evil villain.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Possibly indirect example: Arlecchino tells Eula that her name is Russian. Arlecchino is actually the Italian word for Knave, and is her Harbinger codename in canon.
  • Age Lift: With the exception of Ningguang, every character who are playable in the game have been turned into high-school-age teenagers, even the ones who are canonically adults.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: The Withering is so dangerous that even the Celestials are terrified of it. It's presence on Earth is enough to make them stay away from the planet for quite some time.
  • Always Identical Twins: Ei looks so similar to her twin sister, Makoto that even the Celestials mistook the former for the latter.
  • Big Bad: Queen Celestia. Her main goal is to Take Over The Universe, with Earth as her latest target. She also plots to corrupt the Star Scouts into working for her, and destroy those that couldn't be corrupted.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy
    • Many Star Scouts have fallen victim to Celestia's influence prior to the start of the story.
    • [[Spoiler:Columbina, Arlecchino, Sandrone, and Pantalone]], under the influence of the Tatarigami, sees everyone and everything as the cause of their suffering, which causes the latter two to plan to use an Artifact of Doom to bring about The End of the World as We Know It in a misguided revenge.
    • Cyno is possessed by a Chill, a species of Tatarigami, which causes him to become very aggressive. Much of his debut chapter is spent trying to purge him of the Chill's influence.
  • Canon Character All Along
    • The magical snowglobe-looking thing that Aloy keeps in her house is initially implied to be housing the souls of four individuals. While it's no surprise that it is later revealed to be the case, the identity of these four are surprising. They're Columbina, Arlecchino, Sandrone, and Pantalone.
    • The Thunder Sakuras are mentioned several times early on as an idol group. Though no mention is made of its members, we can infer that they must be someone from Inazuma. We find out in a later chapter that the group's members are Raiden Ei and Yae Miko.
  • Captain Ersatz
    • The Star Scouts as a whole are basically just the Sailor Scouts with the only difference being that they have male Scouts as well.
    • The Tatarigami are literally just the Creatures of Grimm from RWBY, complete with each species having the exact same names as the ones from that show. The Chill is even subject to the exact same In-Universe Historical Villain Upgrade as their RWBY counterpart.
  • Combat Stilettos: Keqing can parkour up the side of a warehouse while wearing high heels, even before becoming a Star Scout herself. This is lampshaded by the others.
  • Composite Character
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Eula's parents are incredibly corrupt businesspeople that are horribly abusive to their employees and even resort to illegal means in the name of profit.
  • Death by Adaptation: Four of the 11 Harbingers are confirmed to be long dead, with Dottore being one of them, but ironically Signora isn't. In canon, all but Signora are still alive as of Version 4.1. spoilers for canon
  • Decomposite Character
    • As noted above, the Fatui and Abyss Order both have their characteristics given to the Celestials, yet still exists as separate factions.
    • Yuheng is Keqing's title as a member of the Liyue Qixing in canon. Here, it's the name of her AI assistant.
  • Dramatic Irony: While investigating some strange meteorites, the Star Scouts come across a girl named Mona who offers to help them with their investigation. However, it's been established back in chapter 1 that Star Astrolabos was one of the Star Scouts brainwashed by Celestia, and anyone who is familiar with Mona's canon self will immediately realize from the moment she introduced herself that she is Star Astrolabos and is, at the time, working against them.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Withering has the ability to reduce entire planets into inhospitable wastelands and kill most creatures just by showing up. It is so powerful and dangerous that even Celestia, the Big Bad, is terrified enough of it to recall all of her minions from Earth and postpone all operations on the planet just to stay away from it.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: All Star Scouts are either students in Teyvat High School or will be enrolling in it if they aren't already. Ningguang is so far the only exception to this.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Minor example. Liyue Harbor is described to be an autonomous city-state in China, a description that somewhat fits Hong Kong in real life.
  • Henshin Hero: Star Scouts can switch from their civilian egos to their Carnage Forms by shouting "(constellation name), Carnage Mode!"
  • Homage: The story resembles Sailor Moon in almost every aspect. Having an evil queen who embodies darkness as the Big Bad? Check. Said Big Bad plots to Take Over the World by draining people of their energy? Check. Ordinary High-School Student who become magical Henshin Heroes via a Fairy Companion? Check. Said heroes having to keep their alter egos and the war against the Big Bad a secret from their friends and loved ones? Check. Said heroes' costumes being Paper-Thin Disguise despite the aforementioned secrecy? Not played completely straight, but still a check.
  • In Name Only: Both the Fatui and the Tatarigami have nothing in common with their canon counterparts.
  • Mythology Gag
    • In general, terms from canon are occasionally referenced in this story as the name of something relatively simpler by real world standards. One such example is the Akasha Phones, named after the Akasha System from the Sumeru Archon Quest.
    • All the character's social media usernames references something about them from canon. For example, Aether and Lumine are "Traveller Boy" and "Traveller Girl" respectively.
    • Though Zhongli is not the God of Contracts here, his role as said god in canon is still alluded to when Hu Tao brings up how he once claimed that contracts are unbreakable and those who breaks them should suffer the "Wrath of the Rock" while calling him out for lying to her about his being a Star Scout.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Celestia is the name of the Unknown God in this story.
  • Non-Human Undead: The heroes encounter undead Hilichurls and Ruin Guards while investigating the Withering.
  • Ordinary High-School Student
    • Aether and Lumine are high school students who were chosen to hold the mantle of the Twin Scouts of Light.
    • All Star Scouts introduced thus far have high school students as their civilian identity. If they're not already high school students, it's guaranteed that they'll enroll themselves into high school by the end of the chapter they first appeared in. Ningguang is thus far the sole exception to this rule, being the only Star Scout who is a working-class adult with a political position.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The Star Scouts' Carnage Forms are so paper thin as disguises that it only seem to be because of Plot Armor that their true identities aren't public knowledge yet. All it took for Lyney and Lynette to figure out that Stars Viator and Viatrix are Aether and Lumine is the former two using a simple photo editing app on their smartphones to edit out the masks that came with their Carnage Forms, while Hu Tao saw right through Zhongli's Carnage Form as if he isn't even in disguise with her only remark being asking why he is wearing such a weird costume.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: In canon, Chongyun sees Shenhe as his aunt. Here, the two of them are siblings.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Zhongli is Hu Tao's big brother here. In canon, they are not related at all.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Signora in canon was Killed Off for Real at the end of Inazuma's Archon Quest. Here, she is still alive as of chapter 21. Her being one of the heroes in this continuity probably helped.
  • Taken for Granite: Beidou and Xinyan are turned into stone when they encounter and fall victim to a Withering Zone. Thankfully it is not fatal, and they are cured when the Withering Zone is dispelled, with them being no worse for the wear.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Lynette is still a Cat Girl... in what is otherwise a mundane Earth setting (Star Scouts nonwithstanding). Yet there is no explanation as to why she has cat features, and no one even bothers to point it out.
  • Where the Hell Is Springfield?: We only know that Teyvat City is in the United States, Liyue Harbor is in China, and Fontaine is in France. The exact location of those cities in their respective nations are currently unknown.
