Tropes
- Acting for Two: In Supergirl she plays both Alura Zor-El (starting Season 3) and a disguise by Martian Manhunter using her likeness. Later, in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, she plays Alura in Part 1 and the Smallville version of Lois Lane in Part 2 (which the Arrowverse places in Earth-167).
- Action Girl: Her version of Lois Lane in Smallville was very action-oriented.
- Amazonian Beauty: Has a good bit of muscle and definition.
- Dawson Casting: In Smallville Erica was 26 when she first appeared, while Lois is supposed to be 19 at the time.
- Directed by Cast Member: Directed the episode "Torn and Frayed" from Saving Hope.
- Fake American: She's Canadian, but often plays American characters.
- Fake Guest Star: Smallville listed her as a guest star on Season 4, despite her appearing in over half the episodes. She was Promoted to Opening Titles on Season 5.
- Ms. Fanservice: Her sex appeal is played up in many roles, but especially in Smallville, where the story would often have her wearing all kinds of Fanservice costumes or outfits, like a Flag Bikini or a French Maid Outfit. In the opening credits where she's introduced, her background scene is her stepping out of the water in a bikini, displaying her toned body prominently.
- The Other Darrin: From Season 3 onwards of Supergirl, Erica took over from Laura Benanti for the role of Alura Zor-El due to irreconcilable scheduling conflicts from Benanti.
- Star-Making Role: Her role as Lois Lane in Smallville rose her to prominence.
- Statuesque Stunner: She's 5'8" and very good looking, making this naturally apply to all the roles she plays.
- Written-In Infirmity: In Saving Hope, Alex became pregnant twice as a result of Erica's real-life pregnancies.
