Shounen Hollywood II

    Kakeru Kazami
"Your universe is my universe. My universe is your universe. In other words, I'm crazy about you! Giving you an unearthly dream, I'm Kakeru Kazami! I'm 17 and a second year in high school!"

Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka

Kazami Kakeru

Kakeru is one of the members of Shounen Hollywood and the primary narrator of the HOLLY STAGE anime. He lived a "normal life" up until the directer of Hollywood Tokyo came and scouted him. His Hollywood Color is red.

  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both hair and eyes are blue, despite his motif color not matching.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Off key compared to all the other boys. He tries to improve his singing every day, but no matter how hard he tries he can't quite get 100 percent accuracy.
  • Image Song: "Makka na PRIDE" (1st season) and "Taiyou Poem" (2nd season).
  • The Narrator: He serves as the overseer of the anime, commenting on the happenings and navel gazing about the emotions they all went through.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Kakeru has low self-esteem at the start of the series and has several episodes that showcase how his insecurities prevent him from truly going all out. Episode 7 of season 1 is all about Kakeru overcoming his embarrassment of his own singing voice when the rest of the boys take him out in public and agree to all sing everything they say until Kakeru is comfortable with singing.

    Daiki Tomii
Voiced by: Shouta Aoi
An orphan who grew up becoming a fan of the first Shounen Hollywood after a visit from Minoru, one of the previous members. A very kind fellow, but unsure of what he wants to do as looking forward with the group. Hollywood Color is yellow.

  • Ascended Fan: Daiki had been one of the original Shounen Hollywood ever since he was a little boy. When he came across Hollywood Tokyo he'd never expect to be working for the place that produced his favorite group, nor did he expect to be a part of that very group's revival. Even moreso in HOLLY STAGE FOR 50, where he gets the opportunity to act alongside the man who got him interested in ShoHolly in the first place.
  • Curtains Match the Window: His hair is brown/blonde, and his eyes are about the same color.
  • Friend to All Children: He's rather good with all of the younger kids in his orphanage, and likes to play with them when he's able.
  • Image Song: "Bokutachi no Revolution" and "Kago no Naka no I love you"
  • The Heart: Has the most emotional attachment to Shounen Hollywood and tries his hardest to keep the group afloat. As already mentioned, he also serves as the good luck magnet for the group.
  • Legacy Character: He's dubbed the new Tommy of Shounen Hollywood.
  • Nice Guy
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: For all intents and purposes, he is Minoru's complete replacement in the second Shounen Hollywood. They both share a color and a last name even though they aren't related, takes his position as the Good Luck Charm of their respective groups, and have similar hairstyles and backgrounds since they come from the same orphanage.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name is officially romanized as "Daiki Tommy", but the subtitles dub him "Saiki Tomii".

     Ikuma Amaki
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara
The leader and center of the second Shounen Hollywood. Former delinquent and high school dropout. Hollywood Color is green.

  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Many people comment that his brows are pretty large, and they're quite a bit thicker than those of his contemporaries. In one episode, he makes mention of shaving them every so often.
  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing seems to go his way in the series. Of all the ShoHolly boys, he's the one most used for comic relief.
  • Book Dumb: Having dropped out of high school, this is to be expected. He also can't read more advanced kanji because of this.
  • Catchphrase: "Bujigiri Damashi"/"Possess the urge to win by a landslide". It's for the gig, really. He couldn't even read the characters at first.
  • Curtains Match the Window: His green hair and eyes match his motif color.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Before joining Hollywood Tokyo, he used to be in a very minor gang. Amusingly, he gets to play a character with a delinquent flair in AIR BOYS.
  • Image Song: "JINGI GREEN" (1st season) and "Do Re Mi Fa MUSIC" (2nd season).
  • In-Series Nickname: "Makki", used by pretty much everyone he knows. Very rarely is he ever called by his actual name.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: He left his old delinquent group once he realized that all the activities they do (stealing shopping carts and hanging around school) were stupid. He still keeps in touch with them despite breaking off.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Kira's sensitive guy, as much as can be allowed for his idol gig, anyway. Only counts for him in-character.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Very slight, but his last name is spelled "Amagi" in the FUNimation subs. His nickname is also officially spelled "Macky", but subs use "Makki" instead.

     Kira Saeki
Voiced by: Daiki Yamashita
A former child actor who played in the television drama Sakura Island Rhapsody. He serves as the youngest member of the second Shounen Hollywood at 14 (later 15) years old. Hollywood Color is blue.

  • Attention Whore: He was usually the center of attention when he used to be on Sakura Island, and he still makes a habit of marketing himself to his fans. When it comes down to roles or parts, he usually wanted a bigger part or to take the lead whenever an opportunity asserted itself.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: As a member of Shounen Hollywood, Kira's supposed to act the part for his audience, coming off as a young, cheerful boy. While it is true that he is the youngest member of the second group, he's generally more prone to snarking or acting dry. That being said, he does display some hallmarks of such a character, such as his attention seeking actions and his complete inability to deal with his own romantic emotions.
  • Catchphrase: On Sakura Island Rhapsody, he had "Grind 'em up!" as one. He performs it occasionally, and even used it in a spur of the moment save when Ikuma forgot his line in AIR BOYS.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: His name deliberately invokes it, and sparkling and twinkling is incorporated into his idol routine. During meet and greets, he even blows glitter into the faces of his fans if they request it.
  • The Fake Cutie: Marketed as the cute one of Shounen Hollywood, and certainly plays up a Token Mini-Moe image for his fans. In reality the boy is fussy, blunt, and somewhat immature.
  • invokedFan Community Nicknames: He is the only one who got to name his specific subset of fans. He calls them "Ms. Salmons", due to the fact that they keep "swimming" back to him after they remembered him from Sakura Island.
  • Former Child Star: He still feels a bit of embarrassment from his days acting in Sakura Island Rhapsody, but his stubbornness also stems from a childhood with extremely doting parents. He still has fans that recognize him from his old role, and he has a bit of a swelled head.
  • The Gadfly: If he can find some way to poke fun at Ikuma, he will.
  • Image Song: "Kirakira DREAMER" (1st season) and "Aoi Kyun Kyun Muffler" (2nd season).
  • The Smart Guy: He's at least the most socially aware of the group, especially with his experience as a child actor. In addition to being prepared for certain situations, he knows how to act in public and play up others' images so he can grab his fans.

     Shun Maiyama
Voiced by: Kensho Ono
A teenager who wanted to become a famous musician before running into Hollywood Tokyo. Proclaimed a narcissist and a laid back character. Hollywood Color is pink.

  • The Charmer: His idol persona is this, playing him up as the flirty ladykiller of the group.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Has two, but they're not very prominent. Hollywood Tokyo uses them as his charm points.
  • Foil: Thematically, he serves as one to Ran. Whereas Ran had the talent to stay as a professional but chose not to, Shun wanted to pursue stardom but is lazy and stagnant. They finally meet up face-to-face in the HOLLY STAGE episode 18.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: In his day to day life, he needs glasses. He takes them off for his idol performances.
  • Image Song: "Pinkish Heart Ai" (1st season) and "Koi no Ring" (2nd season).
  • In-Series Nickname: He doesn't actually have one, but for his idol gig he's given the manufactured nickname of "Shun-Shun".

Shounen Hollywood I

     Koji Sakuragi/"Tsuyoto Hiiragi"
The narrator and focus of the novel. A 32 year old man who jumps at the chance to improve his meager life by lying about his age at an idol audition, changing his name in the process. He's known as "God" in the group, and his Hollywood Color is white.

  • Catchphrase: Loves saying "Amazing"/"Subarashii" when he gets older.
  • Older Than He Looks: Rivals Tesshi in this department, but ultimately downplayed; unlike Tesshi, his features age along with him when we next see him. As the President, he's taller and gains more facial hair, but looks quite a bit younger than what he should be looking like as a 47 year old man.
  • Stage Name: "Tsuyoto Hiiragi" is just a pseudonym for Koji.

     Shima Hayamizu
Voiced by: Kosuke Toriumi
The center of the first Shounen Hollywood, and loves the group. Becomes the CEO of a famous production company following the first ShoHolly's breakup. Hollywood Color is blue.
  • Foil: To President. Both men have the same love for Shounen Hollywood and Hollywood Tokyo, and they at least want to preserve the legacy in some way, but whereas President wishes to carry on with a new generation and tries to do it proud, Shima merely wishes to preserve the spirit of the group.
  • Tender Tears: He's the first of the group to cry when they announce their breakup. The group obviously meant a lot to him back then.

     Kou Ohsaki
Voiced by: Yūto Suzuki
A coolheaded and charismatic character, Kou is the only one of the group to keep pursuing singing as a career and made a name for himself as a solo artist. Hollywood Color is Pink.

     Ran Kazehara
The old leader of Shounen Hollywood. An exceptional dancer, but left the music scene following Shounen Hollywood's breakup. Hollywood Color is Red.

  • Happily Married: He's the only one of the boys shown with a partner after the group's breakup, and they seem to get along fine.
  • Pursue the Dream Job: Inverted in the HOLLY STAGE anime. He was a fantastic dancer and could have pursued that, and still loves dancing in adulthood, but he took a part time job at a pastry shop following the group's breakup and ended up loving it so much he decided to become a baker.

     Minoru Tomii
The first Tommy of Shounen Hollywood, and served as their Good Luck Charm. In the years since the group's breakup, he's become a famous actor on the well known Japanese Police Procedural Migratory Bird Cop. Hollywood Color is Yellow.
  • The Mentor: Serves as this for Daiki, combined with a Cool Big Bro vibe since they both come from the same orphanage.

     Daichi Hirosawa
The most masculine of the original group, Daichi was not one to get used to idolhood. He's quit that business and becomes a carpenter, regularly fixing up Hollywood Tokyo when they need the help. Hollywood Color is Green.

  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: As soon as the original group disbanded, he saw his opportunity away from the music industry and takes it, since he was never very interested in it anyway. However he does help out at Hollywood Tokyo whenever needed.

     Ryunosuke Date
The childlike member of the first Shounen Hollywood. Gets work as a mascot for an amusement park after his group's breakup. Hollywood Color is Purple.

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: The weird one of the group through and through. He would always laugh when he got the chance (which is often), make fun of his colleagues and juniors, and has the smallest filter of the bunch. This doesn't change with age, surprisingly.
  • Mascot with Attitude: At the amusement park he sang at, he's turned the once kindly mascot character into this. He gives him a sharp but blunt attitude and likes to provoke people, but although the parents get mad it's enough to make kids entertained.
  • In-Series Nickname: Usually referred to as "Ryu".

Hollywood Tokyo Personnel

    The President
  • Legacy Character: There are two of them in the story; the eccentric from the original novel, and Hiiragi after the first one's death. Funnily enough, they both have very similar looks.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Besides the second President being called President most of the time by the idols, he's usually referred to as "God" by all of his old acquaintances and by Tesshi in private. Not once is he ever referred to by his real name.
  • Silver Fox: At the very most he's middle aged, but despite that he looks rather good during ShoHolly II's tenure.
  • Snow Means Death: The first president dies in the winter time.
     Kyoichi Teshigawara
  • Anime Hair: Among all the characters with unusual hair colors, his hair is truly the only one that stands out, with his hair that sticks up right in the air.
  • In-Series Nickname: Tesshi.
  • Older Than He Looks: Nobody knows for sure how old Tesshi is, but it has to be older than the late 20s look he's been pulling. He's looked the exact same ever since the first Shounen Hollywood was still running, making some joke that he's The Ageless.
  • Team Mom: In contrast to the President, Tesshi's the nurturing one of the group, and is more than willing to listen to the group's problems and help sort them out.
    Cat
A horned owl that sits perched in the vestibule of Hollywood Tokyo.
  • First-Person Smartass: As an owl, he can't speak human even if he wanted to. But when he gets focus, he has a lot to say about the current and previous Hollywood Tokyo staff.
  • Nonindicative Name: Yes, the owl is named Cat. No, it doesn't make it any less confusing.
  • Team Pet: Serves as this for Hollywood Tokyo and basically serves as Tesshi's pet, considering that he's taken care of the bird for years. He's seen as honorary staff because he's been with Hollywood Tokyo since he was a baby.
