    Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan

Voiced by: Christopher Meloni Foreign VAs

  • Rookie Red Ranger: He is the hero of the story and the film takes place when he is still a rookie Green Lantern.
  • Token Human: Is the only human member of the Green Lantern Corps in the film.

    Abin Sur

Abin Sur

Voiced by: Richard McGonagle Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Ugliness: Abin Sur traditionally looks like a bald human with red skin, while this incarnation has a wrinklier face and pointed protrusions on his chin.
  • Alien Blood: His blood is purple.
  • Death by Origin Story: As is standard, Abin Sur dies and selects Hal Jordan as his successor before drawing his last breath.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: About a year before First Flight came out, it was established in the "Secret Origin" arc that the reason Abin Sur was dying in the first place was because he was mortally wounded by Atrocitus, the founder and leader of the Red Lantern Corps. This movie changes it so that Abin Sur's assailant was an underling of Kanjar Ro's named Cuch.
  • Loved by All: According to Boodika, Abin Sur was universally beloved among the Green Lantern Corps, which is why some of the Lanterns were seemingly upset that the ring of such a reputable and beloved Lantern was inherited by a member of species that's considered primitive and savage by most of the Corps.

    Tomar Re

Tomar Re

Voiced by: John Larroquette Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Jerkass: A mild case in that he is initially distrustful of Hal Jordan due to having doubts on his worthiness as Abin Sur's successor. The Tomar Re of the comics in contrast got along rather well with Jordan from the start.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: His comics counterpart was killed by Hal Jordan's enemy Goldface, while this movie instead has him perish in Sinestro's slaughtering of the Green Lanterns after Sinestro obtained his yellow power ring.

    Boodika

    Kilowog

Kilowog

Voiced by: Michael Madsen Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Most versions of Kilowog were portrayed as Drill Sergeant Nasty who's actually one of the nicest Corps members when off-the-clock, and who quickly befriends the new recruits from Earth. This version of Kilowog appears to be most antagonistic towards Hal at first, straight-up attacking him during their first encounter and attempting to remove his ring, and either gruffly dismisses him or snarks at him during subsequent encounters. He drops this attitude when Hal saves his life during the chase after Kanjar Ro, and stands up for him when Guardians refuse to believe Hal's story that Sinestro has turned against the Corps.
  • Defiant to the End: When Sinestro persuaded the Green Lanterns he hadn't yet killed in his coup to surrender their power rings, Kilowog was the only one refusing to submit to this demand.

    Ch'p

Ch'p

Voiced by: David Lander Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Downplayed. While still as heroic as he was in the comics, he is initially distrustful towards Hal Jordan, when his comics counterpart got along well with Jordan from the start.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Ch'p doesn't suffer his comic counterpart's fate of getting run over by a yellow truck and is notably among the Green Lanterns who don't get killed during Sinestro's coup.

    Guardians of the Universe

Guardians of the Universe

Appa Ali Apsa voiced by: William Schallert Foreign VAs
Ranakar voiced by: Malachi Throne Foreign VAs
Ganthet voiced by: Larry Drake Foreign VAs

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: As always, Ganthet is the most reasonable of the Guardians and is willing to hear Hal Jordan out and allow him to prove himself as a Green Lantern. The others are a more downplayed example, being ultimately willing to accept Ganthet's proposal and being generally far more reasonable than their comics counterparts.
  • Not So Stoic: The Guardians are typically devoid of emotion, but Ranakar shows genuine anger when rebuking Sinestro for his actions and cheers for Hal Jordan when he fights Sinestro.

    Sinestro

Sinestro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sinestro_first_flight.jpg
Voiced by: Victor Garber Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: While Sinestro is still a renegade Green Lantern who obtains a yellow power ring, the movie gives a different chain of events. While still affiliated with the Corps, Sinestro plans a coup and travels to Qward to convince the Weaponers to give him the yellow ring after conspiring with Kanjar Ro. In contrast, in the comics, he was kicked out of the Corps and banished to Qward as punishment for using his power ring to take control of his own planet and subsequently getting the Weaponers of Qward to make him a yellow ring.
  • Alien Blood: He is shown bleeding purple when fighting Hal.
  • Bait-and-Switch: He's initially portrayed as more reasonable than his fellow Lanterns and welcoming to Hal, a cool trainer who'll whip him into shape. In truth? Not so much.
  • Cowboy Cop: A deconstruction - his Dirty Harry tactics are not portrayed as a positive trait. He kills subjects in custody under interrogation, he tortures and threatens to get his way, and he's a Dirty Cop to boot.
  • Evil Costume Switch: After getting the yellow ring, Sinestro switches to the costume he wore after the founding of the Sinestro Corps in the comics, though he was already far gone by then.
  • Hero Killer: During his coup, Sinestro slaughters a lot of the Green Lanterns.
  • Interrogating the Dead: After killing Kanjar Ro, Sinestro finds out the location of the yellow ring by using his Green Lantern ring to reconnect Kanjar Ro's synapses and interrogate Kanjar Ro's temporarily revived corpse.

    Kanjar Ro

Kanjar Ro

Voiced by: Kurtwood Smith Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Ugliness: While the comics Kanjar Ro also had pink skin and yellow, insect-like eyes, this version of the character has a less humanoid appearance on account of lacking a nose in addition to having tentacles under his mouth and a pointier head.
  • Alien Blood: He bleeds orange when shot by Sinestro
  • Death by Adaptation: Kanjar Ro gets killed by Sinestro, when he's still alive in the comics.

    Weaponers of Qward

Weaponers of Qward

Voiced by: Rob Paulsen Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Ugliness: The Weaponers here look a lot less human than their comic counterparts, including pointier ears, huge black eyes, and multiple insectoid limbs.
