    Abin Sur

Abin Sur

Voiced by: Arnold Vosloo Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: At least in comparison to how he was depicted in First Flight. The Emerald Knights incarnation of Abin Sur gives him a slight redesign that is somewhat more accurate to how he appeared in the comics due to having less wrinkles and no pointed protrusions on the chin.
  • Posthumous Character: He is long dead by the time of the story's framing device, with his story being the only time he's seen alive.
  • Truer to the Text: As explained under Adaptational Attractiveness, Abin Sur here has a more comic-accurate design than his depiction in First Flight.

    Avra

Avra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avra_emerald_knights.jpg
Voiced by: Mitchell Whitfield Foreign VAs

  • Canon Foreigner: He was created for the movie, as his story is the only one in the anthology to be completely original rather than adapted from a comic story and the title of first Green Lantern in the comics belonged to Rori Dag (whose story isn't even close to how Avra became a Lantern and was later retconned by the Wrath of the First Lantern arc of Geoff Johns' run as well as the "Out of Time" arc of Green Lanterns, where it was respectively established that Volthoom was the first Lantern in general and that the first Green Lanterns were seven recruits gathered to combat Volthoom, with the very first among the seven being Alitha).
  • Non-Indicative Name: Avra is known as the first Green Lantern, but is actually the last of the first four Green Lanterns to receive a power ring (though he is established as the first of them who figured out how to use his ring to create constructs).
  • Posthumous Character: He is established to be one of the first Green Lanterns ever recruited and is implied to have died and passed his ring onto another Lantern, with the two most recent bearers of his ring being Abin Sur and Hal Jordan.

    Kilowog

Kilowog

Voiced by: Henry Rollins Foreign VAs

  • Say My Name: He screams Ardakian Trawl's name as he witnesses her demise.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He calls out his drill instructor Deegan on his harsh methods.

    Deegan

Deegan

Voiced by: Wade Williams Foreign VAs

  • Accidental Misnaming: Misnames Kilowog as "Brilowog" when he first sees him.
  • Adaptation Name Change: His counterpart in the Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps story "New Blood", from which Kilowog's story in this movie is adapted, was named Ermey.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: Deegan has a much less human appearance than his comic counterpart Ermey, going from a mostly human appearance albeit with yellow skin to a bald, pale, wrinkled being with tusks.
  • Alien Blood: He bleeds green.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He does nothing but berate Kilowog and the rest of his charges, though it's later revealed that he cares more about them than he leads on.
  • Good is Not Nice: He is very rude and domineering towards rookie Lanterns, but it becomes clear that his attitude is necessary to prepare them for the very real danger they'll face as Green Lanterns.
  • Posthumous Character: Is deceased in the present time, as Kilowog's story flashes back to his time as a rookie Lantern and the story ends with Deegan dead.
  • So Proud of You: He dies commending Kilowog for proving he has what it takes to be a Lantern.

    Laira Omoto

Laira Omoto

Voiced by: Kelly Hu Foreign VAs

  • Action Girl: Initially the warrior-princess of Jayd's Gold Dragon clan, she becomes a Green Lantern capable of defeating her entire family with relative ease.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Laira remains a Green Lantern by the end of the film and isn't kicked out for murdering Amon Sur, in effect never becoming a Red Lantern.
  • Cain and Abel: Her brother is a gleeful follower of their father and tries to kill his sister when she comes home to stop their father's war crimes. An old home video shows he's always disliked his sister.
  • Close-Call Haircut: Gets this in the fight with her father.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Even without her Green Lantern ring, she's a martial artist capable of defeating her father even after taking a spear to the shoulder.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted. Unlike her comics counterpart, this Laira doesn't display much of a temper.
  • Lady of War: Elegant and feminine, and a Green Lantern capable of decimating whole armies.
  • Lavender-Skinned Space Babe: She is a Jaydian, which means she looks like a human with pointed ears and purple skin, and is quite attractive.
  • Leotard of Power: Wears a surprisingly heavily-armored leotard, with a green breastplate and armored leggings.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Summons any number of melee weapon constructs in battle, including spears, swords, and flails.
  • One-Woman Army: Defeats the three greatest warriors on her homeworld, but not before intimidating their royal guard into surrendering.
  • Rebellious Princess: Her father Kentor is the head of Jayd's Gold Dragon clan, but she eventually opposes and defeats him when he begins committing war crimes.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Laira in the comics was killed by Sinestro just to spite Hal Jordan. She remains alive by the end of this film.
  • Took a Level in Badass: When she first got her ring, Laira could only call for help from the other Green Lanterns. By the time she returns to her homeworld, she's become a one-woman army. Hal notes that aside from Sinestro, Laira is the Lantern he'd most want by his side in a pinch.

    Kentor Omoto

Kentor Omoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kentor_omoto_emerald_knights.jpg
Voiced by: Tony Amendola Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Sympathy: His comic counterpart was a disgraced Green Lantern who was booted out of the Corps because of zealous devotion to old-fashioned principles that clashed with the ideals the Green Lantern Corps was supposed to uphold and saw no trouble in combating his own daughter in a fight to the death. This film instead makes it so that Kentor resents his daughter for being chosen as the successor to their Sector's Green Lantern instead of him and his suicide at the end is from remorse at having to fight his daughter rather than to spite Laira when she chose to spare his life after besting him.
  • Alien Blood: He is shown bleeding blue when he commits Seppuku.
  • Anti-Villain: Despite his crimes, he remains a loving father who prioritises the well-being of his world. In the end, recognising the folly of his actions, Kentor commits seppuku and dies affirming Laira as the real protector of their world.
  • Decomposite Character: Unlike his comic counterpart, this Kentor was never a Green Lantern, with the role of Laira's predecessor as a Green Lantern instead filled by Galius Zed, who was replaced by Laira due to dying in battle.
  • Heel Realization: Acknowledges and shows remorse for how far he's fallen before his suicide.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: In seeking to protect his world, he becomes a ruthless despot whose own daughter is forced to put an end to his atrocities.
  • Knight Templar: His atrocities are a way of ensuring that the Golden Dragon Clan—which he rules—reigns supreme, and of restoring his lost honor.
Laira: What has happened to Jayd, father?
    Kentor: Jayd is safe.
    Laira: At what expense?
Kentor: Only the blood of our enemies.
  • Multi-Melee Master: In his duel with Laira, Kentor wields a shapeshifting weapon that changes into several forms, including a staff, a spear, and two sickles.
  • Posthumous Character: As Laira's story ends with him committing suicide, he is obviously dead in the present time.
  • Seppuku: Commits a PG version of this. He stabs himself with a dagger, but doesn't quite disembowel himself.
  • So Proud of You: He spends his final moments expressing pride in his daughter, acknowledging that she is the true protector of their homeworld rather than himself.
  • Villainous Valor: Even when disarmed, Kentor doesn't back down against Laira until she definitely proves herself a better warrior. After losing, he chooses to take his own life to atone for his crimes and proudly declares his daughter the true protector of their homeworld.

    Bolphunga the Unrelenting

Bolphunga the Unrelenting

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolphunga_emerald_knights.jpg
Voiced by: Roddy Piper Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Badass: In the comic story Bolphunga is a Miles Gloriosus who never gets a chance to show off his skill and his past fights are only mentioned. Here we actually see him defeat another warrior to prove he's not all bark. Also he ends up wrecking so much havoc Mogo is forced to intervene, where in the original story Mogo didn't even think Bolphunga worth his time.
  • Adaptational Curves: He is a lot beefier than how he appeared in the comics.
  • Blood Knight: He really loves to fight.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Went to hunt the mightiest Green Lantern and wound up seriously pissing off a living planet. He could have bragged about that if he'd lived to tell the tale.
  • Oh, Crap!: As in the original comic story he made his debut in, Bolphunga is horrified when it dawns on him that Mogo is the planet he's currently on rather than just inhabiting the planet.
  • Villain Protagonist: Despite Mogo being the featured Lantern, Bolphunga is for all intent the one the short follows.
  • Villainous Glutton: He is constantly seen eating.

    Atrocitus

Atrocitus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atrocitus_emerald_knights.jpg
Voiced by: Bruce Thomas Foreign VAs

  • Adaptational Villainy: Has none of his comic incarnation’s noble qualities.
  • Composite Character: Abin Sur's story is adapted from the Alan Moore story "Tygers", but has Atrocitus take the place of Qull.
