Sandbox / Minor Insult Wick Check

Go To

Minor Insult Meltdown suffers from an unclear description — a lengthy Example As Thesis — that fails to explain what elements are required for the trope. As such, a wick check is needed to see how it's being used. All wicks (aside from this sandbox) will be checked; potholes and commentary will be in bold.

related tropes: Disproportionate Retribution, Can't Take Criticism, Berserk Button, Misery Trigger

Character breaks down over minor insult (61/151)
  1. Actually Pretty Funny: Blixemi: Unusual for the "Know Your Clanmate" episodes, Graystripe doesn't get mad at most of what the narrator says, instead just laughing along and admitting that they're making some good points. This frustrates the narrator, who frantically tries to find a way to make them upset. He's finally pissed off when she claims he's becoming a vegetarian.
  2. Book Dumb: Korra, as she's depicted in Project Voicebend, is terribly uninformed about a lot of subjects a girl her age should know about. She's barely literate, she doesn't know how to do basic math, she has no idea what sex is or why she feels all tingly whenever she gets into a fight, among many other things. This is because the White Lotus taught her nothing besides how to bend the elements and beat people up. It's actually a very sensitive issue for her.
Tarrlok: My club is not dumb. You're dumb.
    Korra: [tearfully gasps]
[cut to Korra sobbing uncontrollably at Air Temple Island]
    Korra: You guys... I think I'm dumb. I don't even know what 2 + 2 is!
  3. Tear Jerker: Minor Insult Meltdown: A character who was annoyed by another means to only insult them minorly, but the other character takes it very badly.
  4. "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Contrast Minor Insult Meltdown, where just the tip of the "you suck" iceberg can sink someone to tears.
  5. AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Stranger Things: His Minor Insult Meltdown in response to Mike’s crack that he doesn’t like girls. Is it because he’s gay and sensitive about it (justified considering the time)? Or is it because (even if not gay) people have been hounding him about his sexuality for years and he can’t believe Mike is getting in on the act? As Season 4 heavily implies that Will has feelings for Mike, is the reason then that he's doubly hurt because he's being mocked by the person he cares for?
  6. Characters.Blaz Blue Noel Vermillion: Minor Insult Meltdown: This exchange happens in Teach Me Miss Litchi RELOADED: Episode 1:
Makoto: "Are you OK? Do you know who I am?"
    Taokaka: "Uh… I see… three sets of boobies… and one… cutting board…"
Noel: (utterly humiliated, sobbing) "C-cutting board?! She actually compared me to a cutting board!"
  7. Characters.Choujin X: Even the tiniest insult will send Chandra into a blind rage.
  8. Characters.Daily Lives Of High School Boys: She tries to kill the main trio after Hidenori points out to her (with no malicious intent) that she's always alone on Christmas.
  9. Characters.Danganronpa Male Students: Byakuya calling him plankton floating through the ocean without any meaning seems like this at first (where he's ready to punch Byakuya and ends up punching Makoto instead). It's later revealed that sensitivity to his own lack of agency in life is one of the major themes surrounding his character.
  10. Characters.Hells Kitchen Season 18 Rookies Vs Veterans: Much like in Season 4, she went through a Minor Insult Meltdown over Ramsay calling her out over something (calling out the orders in his place in Season 4, under-portioning the garnish this time) in a much milder way than he'd usually chew someone out for. However, whereas in Season 4 she just spent the rest of that service in a massive sulk and complained about Ramsay in the Confession Cam segments, this time she blew up at Ramsay and accused him of sabotaging and disrespecting her, causing him to throw her out on the spot.
  11. Characters.MCU Cosmic: Subverted. When the Grandmaster is discussing Hulk's escape with Loki and Valkyrie. Loki speaks out of turn, which prompts Topaz to hand him the deadly melt stick. The Grandmaster is shocked and tells her to stand down.
Grandmaster: Why are you handing me the melt stick? He was interrupting. That's not a capital violation.
  12. Characters.Medaka Box: He absolutely explodes when Kumagawa makes a mild insult towards card games.
  13. Characters.Object Terror: Hair-Trigger Temper: Okay, not to the extent of Printer but he does get set off at the most trivial things such as mistaking Skittle's compliment as an insult and when he got slightly more votes than last time during elimination.
  14. Characters. One Minute Melee Season Four: Beats Shadow to the point of unconsciousness for calling him ignorant.
  15. Characters. One Piece Paradise: Always drops to his knees in shame if he hears so much as one insult thrown his way. Luckily, equally offhanded praise will get him back up immediately. In the anime version of the Davy Back arc, this is used to effectively paralyze him at one point and prevent him from interfering in one of the Davy Back matches.
  16. Characters.Pokemon The Series Team Rocket Trio: Quite prone to it. She nearly went berserk on a little girl who referred to her as an old lady.
  17. Characters.Poldark: Irrational Hatred: Finds a way to loudly blame Ross for even the slightest inconvenience or offense, however much mental gymnastics it takes, and massively overreacts in a way that often makes others suffer.
  18. Characters.SMP Earth: Icebomb calls Tommy "stupid and poop", which Tommy reacts to by telling Icebomb he'll kill him, getting out a plane, and telling Deo to get in.
  19. Characters.Sailor Moon Usagi Tsukino: Can't Take Criticism: It's not easy for her to accept getting called out on for making an irresponsible choice. This often leads to a Minor Insult Meltdown on her behalf.
  20. Characters.Space Patrol Luluco: Villainous Breakdown: After Luluco tells him off by being "worse than a middle-schooler", whatever bit of coolness he had left leaves the Blackholeian and he just completely flies off the handle.
  21. Characters.Sponge Bob Square Pants Minor Characters: When Squidward insults Sam, she starts huffing angrily, but then starts crying.
  22. Characters.Super Robot Wars Unlimited Generation Alpha: Accidentally provoked by Sora after pointing out that she was still weak, Hana's response to a question she was asked was to try to pound Sora's head in. However, it did show Sora that Hana had incredible potential within her.
  23. Characters.Supermarioglitchy4s Super Mario 64 Bloopers Other Mario Characters: Perpetual Expression: Every single policeman has the same "Angry" expression. Though there are rare instances where they are shown with other expressions. One example is in "The Wacky Wario bros: Money Mayhem" when Wario convinces one of the officers that he's adopted and he runs off crying.
  24. Characters. The Stand: Even the slightest ribbing is enough to send him into a tailspin of traumatic flashbacks and cause him to lash out.
  25. DisproportionateRetribution.Web Original: When Wisp insults TimeDeo's Skyblock skills, Business Bay retaliates by going to war with the Antarctic Empire.
  26. FanNickname.Politics: Donald Trump: "Drumpf" (the German name of Trump's grandfather before he changed it during World War I, coined by John Oliver), "Sleazy Donald" (Ted Cruz's failed attempt attempt to use Trump's nicknaming format against him), "Loser Donald" (from The Young Turks), "Orange Hitler" (or alternatively, "Orange Mussolini"; due to his orange skin and espousing behavior criticized as authoritarian). "Trumplethinskin", "Snowflake-in-Chief", "Diaper Don", and "President Butthurt" have also been used because of his Minor Insult Meltdowns and inability to handle blunt criticism. "Cheeto-faced Assclown" has also made the rounds. "Cheeto Benito" is also popular. Also, Mr. Burns, for obvious reasons. One of the few nicknames used by his supporters was "God Emperor Trump". Trump's opponent Joe Biden called Trump "President Tweety" for his incessant usage of Twitter, which became a Memetic Mutation when Biden supporters created Tweety Bird images to troll Trump.
  27. Fanfic.Ponies Of Olympus: Applejack only meant to egg Spike on a little, but ended up hitting a Berserk Button, instead.
  28. Film.Cherry 2000: Even after she's told Lester where his enemies are, Lester kills Randa for commenting on his bee stings.
Lester: You've got to work on your personality.
  29. Film.Thor Ragnarok: Subverted. The Grandmaster is discussing Hulk's escape with Loki and Valkyrie. Loki speaks out of turn, which prompts Topaz to hand him the deadly melt stick. The Grandmaster is shocked and tells her to stand down.
The Grandmaster: Why are you handing me the melt stick? He was interrupting. That's not a capital violation.
  30. InelegantBlubbering.Western Animation: Done by Rarity (entirely on purpose to irritate her captors) in "A Dog And Pony Show" when one of the Diamond Dogs call her a "mule".
  31. PlayingWith.Minor Insult Meltdown: Basic Trope: A character gets very worked up over a minor insult.
  32. PlayingWith.Stepford Snarker: Alice's attitude is revealed to be the result of being called an "upstart" 25 years ago, when she was 10, over a bad cup of lemonade. Everybody else in the cast calls it out as not really as Earth-shattering as Alice treats it.
  33. Radio. The Navy Lark: Shout-Out: After Jon Pertwee hit it even bigger on television jokes like the following appeared:
Phillips: I've got the solution. I saw it in a film once. There was this doctor...
The Master (played by Pertwee): Who?
    (pause for laughter and applause)
Phillips: No, no, not Doctor Who, ... No, no, no, this chap was a good actor. Doctor No...
  34. Radio. The Scarifyers: In The Nazad Conspiracy, General Warlock asks Dunning if he likes Spanish women. Dunning replies that he believes a woman's mind to be more attractive than physical beauty. The General is insulted that Dunning apparently thinks he is frivolous for preferring loveliness, and that he must be married to a "moron". He works himself up into a fury, culminating in:
General Warlock: You stand there, bold as brass, and declare my wife to be a chimpanzee!
  35. RanmaOneHalf.Tropes M To R: Nothing short of complete and utter praise will please Akane especially when it comes to her cooking. For example when she first cooked for him, Ranma took one bite and tried to just continue training instead of insulting it (she then tried her own food, said it was bad, and threw a rock in frustration saying how much of a jerk he is for disliking it, which winds up hitting Ryoga). She also tends to react with violence whenever she gets called uncute.
  36. Recap.Bar Rescue S 8 E 26 Hideaway From Reality: Camri quits just because the guests criticize her drinks, and she is upset it's on camera. She ends up being fired seconds later.
  37. Recap.Buffy The Vampire Slayer S 3 E 15 Consequences: At Willow's house, Buffy wants to talk, and Willow is happy because she's been "letting things fester" and she wants to be "fester-free". Willow then admits jealousy at Buffy and Faith's "Slayers-only" attitude and grouses, "All of a sudden I'm not cool enough for you because I can't kill things with my bare hands." Buffy bursts into tears, shocking Willow, who hugs her close and frantically apologizes.
Willow: Don't cry. I'm sorry. I was too hard on you! Sometimes I unleash! I don't know my own strength!
  38. Recap.Gilmore Girls S 05 E 22: Rory's overreaction to Mitchum's criticism has Lorelai point out that she would have eaten poundcake.
  39. Recap.Kamen Rider Gaim E 2 Certain Kill Pine Kick: The members of Team Baron hear a spectator remarking that she thought Team Gaim were better dancers. This pisses them off so much that they march right over to Team Gaim's headquarters and challenge them to an Inves Game, with the stakes being that Gaim will have to give up their Access Card (and effectively disband) if Baron wins.
  40. Recap.Mahabharata S 01 E 44: Duryodhan really lets Draupadi’s “blind man’s son is blind” insult trigger him.
  41. Recap.Odd Squad S 2 E 4 The O Team Show Me The Money: Ohio comments on Owen scrunching up his chin in upset, and when Owen asks if he's scrunching it in a bad way, Ohio tells him that he's seen nicer things. This sends Owen off the rails — he and Ohio begin arguing, which causes Orson to cry and exposes them to Otis and Olympia (who manage to spot the clearly-visible ice cream van).
  42. Recap.Red Dwarf Season XII Timewave: Justified, as he hasn't been criticised in ages. When Lister gently tells the Captain that his painting "really isn't all that great", he's so affronted he immediately reinstates the anti-criticism laws and demands the guards capture the Dwarfers.
  43. Recap.Sponge Bob Square Pants S 7 E 26 Big Sister Sam Perfect Chemistry: When Squidward insults Sam, she was huffing angrily, but then starts crying.
  44. Recap.Sponge Bob Square Pants S 7 E 2 Growth Spout Stuck In The Wringer: SpongeBob yells at Patrick for gluing the wringer around him, sending him to tears. Then again, part of Patrick's sadness may have been due to his feeling remorseful over what he has done.
  45. Recap.Stargate SG 1 S 4 E 3 Upgrades: Daniel starts a bar brawl in response to some random guy calling him a geek. Jack even tells him to let it go, and Daniel decides "No, not this time."
  46. Series.Kamen Rider Gaim: In #2, the members of Team Baron hear a spectator remarking that she thought Team Gaim were better dancers. This pisses them off so much that they march right over to Team Gaim's headquarters and challenge them to an Inves Game, with the stakes being that Gaim will have to give up their Access Card (and effectively disband) if Baron wins.
  47. SillyReasonForWar.Literature: The Star Trek Expanded Universe novel I, Q told of a war between the Q and another race of similarly omnipotent beings, the M. These two impossibly advanced species both admitted the real reason for their cataclysmic conflict was "there's just something about you that just really pisses me off." The war itself is kicked off when one of them blurts out, "Your mother!"; nobody now knows who said it or who it was directed at (and it's not like any of them even had a mother). Both sides also show near fourth-wall breaking Genre Savviness: they're both aware enough to realize that in their reality every race always manages to get balanced out by some other race which exists to be an opposing force and source of plot. If they made up with their obvious opposite numbers, it would inevitably lead to a serious threat to both of them showing up.
  48. TearJerker.Corpse Bride: Emily's reaction to Victor more or less lying to her to get back to Victoria, literally crying one of her eyes out as seen in the page image. She doesn't get any better after a poor choice of words on Victor's part.
  49. TheReasonYouSuckSpeech.Western Animation: SpongeBob gives one to Patrick in "Stuck in the Wringer" when Patrick's unhelpful actions worsens SpongeBob's situation in being stuck in the aforementioned wringer:
Patrick: Hey pal, want some of my cotton candy? They gave it to me when I won the dart tournament. I got this too! (shows off his ribbon) Check it out!
SpongeBob: That's nice, Patrick, but I don't want any cotton candy.
Patrick: Well, have some. It'll make you feel better.
SpongeBob: I said I don't want any! (turns and knocks it onto the ground)
Patrick: You ruined my cotton candy!
SpongeBob: Good! Maybe now you know how I feel about you ruining my life!
Ball Toss Vendor: Check it out! Public fight!
Other Vendor: Working at the carnival sure has its perks. (crowd gathers around SpongeBob and Patrick)
SpongeBob: I have never felt so ashamed.
    Patrick: What do you mean?
SpongeBob: If it wasn't for your Forever Glue, I wouldn't be stuck in this thing!
Patrick: I was only trying to help.
SpongeBob: Help?! I think you've helped quite enough today!
Patrick: Okay, if that's how you feel... I won't help you anymore!
  50. VideoGame.Sonic Rush Adventure: When Blaze calls Marine a nuisance, the raccoon takes a severe blow to her confidence and runs away sobbing.
  51. VideoGame.Spyro The Dragon 1998: Disproportionate Retribution: Gnasty Gnorc crystallizes all the dragons because one called him ugly. To be fair, he was probably just looking for an excuse to use that spell anyway...
  52. WebVideo.Blixemi: Actually Pretty Funny: Unusual for the "Know Your Clanmate" episodes, Graystripe doesn't get mad at most of what the narrator says, instead just laughing along and admitting that they're making some good points. This frustrates the narrator, who frantically tries to find a way to make them upset. He's finally pissed off when she claims he's becoming a vegetarian.
  53. WebVideo.Jake And Amir:
  54. WebVideo.Movie Trivia Schmoedown: Poor Communication Kills: Tom Dagnino has become the poster child for this trope. The Finstock Exchange became rife with conflict at the beginning of Season 7 during the draft. Despite all four of the other Horsemen being protected members of his faction, Dagnino opted to announce each member one at a time as his official pick for each of the first four rounds, which came off as a major slight to Rocha (even outside of kayfabe), who was announced last and ended up officially as the faction's fourth round pick. Rocha was angered to the point of announcing that he was considering leaving the faction and many believed that this drama could have been avoided had Dagnino announced the Horsemen collectively as his first four picks and communicated his plan to the team.
  55. WebVideo.Project Voicebend: Tarrlok calling Korra dumb leaves her in tears because she realizes how Book Dumb she really is.
Korra (while sobbing): "I don't even know what 2+2 is!"
  56. WebVideo.SMP Earth:
    • Wisp calls TimeDeo bad at Skyblock, leading to the beginning of the New Year's Day War.
    • Icebomb calls Tommy "stupid and poop", which Tommy reacts to by telling Icebomb he'll kill him, getting out a plane, and telling Deo to get in.
  57. WhatAnIdiot.Mc Juggernuggets: Instead: He pitches a tantrum and flips the dinner table over, ruining Thanksgiving for his entire family and driving his mother to tears.
  58. Wrestling.Damien Sandow: Sandow was supposed to wrestle Yoshi Tatsu, but deemed him an unworthy opponent. He beat him up anyway when Tatsu called him "chicken"..
  59. Wrestling.Fandango: God help you if you mispronounce or make fun of his name. At best, he'll simply refuse to compete. At worst, he'll attack you for it. Lately, he's been doing much more of the latter.
  60. YMMV.Sonic Rush Adventure: Tear Jerker: Marine's Minor Insult Meltdown after Blaze tells her she's a nuisance. Even Blaze felt a little bad about having to be harsh with her.
  61. YMMV.Space Patrol Luluco: The final episode isn't lackluster either, picking up from the ending of the last episode; Nova is immediately taken out of the fight with a mini-Black Hole that was installed into his head by the Big Bad that activated when his Big Bang happened. Luluco immediately gets an 11th-Hour Superpower in the form of the Deep Love Gun, gaining glowing pinkish-orange hair as she does while everyone cheers on. She immediately proceeds to hand the enormous Blackholeian his rear on a silver platter until she wounds his ego by telling him that he's "worse than a middle-schooler", forcing him to use his ultimate attack and nearly destroys her with his powers. But then Nova, who only just is barely hanging on to this world by his love for Luluco, turns himself into a bullet for Luluco to use to defeat the Blackholeian once and for all as the two erase each other from existence with their respective black holes, all while the villain screams that he'll be back. Then things wrap up in a wonderfully energetic "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue, with Over Justice being promoted to Commander-in-Chief, Midori taking up the position of Chief for Ogikubo, Keiji and Lalaco are back to their old shenanigans, but a new light is taken to their rivalry. And to wrap it all up? It turns out that the whole series was an Origins Episode for Studio Trigger's mascot, as Luluco was actually Trigger-chan who's encouraged to go and search for Nova and find her happiness.

Character breaks down over anything (19/151)
  1. Can't Take Criticism: Putting this here since it's not clear if the criticisms count as insults
  2. Made Out to Be a Jerkass: So, this guy has been a total Jerkass to you and you've finally had enough and snap. You stand up to him, give him a "The Reason You Suck" Speech, and tell him off for everything he's done to you. Should be a Moment of Awesome, right? Well, guess what? You were so harsh on the guy that you hurt his feelings.
  3. Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: ** "Stuck in the Wringer" has SpongeBob yelling at Patrick for ruining his day by gluing him in the wringer. The Bikini Bottomites overhear this and take this out of context in believing SpongeBob was bullying Patrick as the latter runs off in tears. They then tell off SpongeBob by saying he deserves the predicament he's in.
  4. Characters.Coraline: Becoming increasingly overbearing towards Coraline, she starts to address herself as the girl's "mother" and the Other Father as "your better father". When Coraline comes to her senses, denouncing her as not being her real mother, boy does she flip out.
  5. Characters.Hells Kitchen Seasons 4 To 5: In the seventh service she tried to call the ticket for a table. Ramsay gave her a firm but fair rebuke, reminding her that he was in charge and that having different people calling tickets just causes confusion. It was a very light reaction on his part (especially compared to the Atomic F-Bomb that Sous Chef Scott delivered to Season 7's Benjamin when he did the same thing), but Jen immediately went into a massive sulk, as she believed she had earned the right to lead the Red Kitchen alongside Ramsay, which only got him further pissed off at her attitude.
  6. Characters.Horus Heresy Loyalist Legions: Completely flips out when Nemiel protests his using of psykers. This seems to be a rare occurence, as he is usually completely fine taking criticism.
  7. Characters.Re Zero Witches Of Sin: Subaru, during a masterstroke of inspiration, pushes Satella past her Rage Breaking Point by telling her that there are other witches he finds more attractive than her.
  8. Characters. The Amazing Race 14: The second Elimination Station webisode revolved around Steve being upset at Preston for not wanting to create an alliance with them during the first leg, and continued with him taking everything Preston said as a personal insult.
  9. DethroningMoment. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: MsCC22: Rainbow Dash (while in a harsh way) telling her parents about their childish behavior, reducing them to tears. While it was harsh of Dash to do that, you can't help but take her side in this. She is completely right in how her parents are too supportive to the point that they act very immature for their age. The thing is, I find Rainbow Dash to to be more mature than her parents because when she cheers for her friends or others, she doesn't behave in such a way. I mean you can deliver a moral regarding loving your parents without ignoring their childish behavior.
  10. Fanfic.Futari Wa Pretty Cure Blue Moon: In episode 15, Hoshi has finally had enough of keeping secrets and tolerating changes that she doesn't like, and screams at the other girls in the lunchroom before running off to hide in the sports equipment shed. The sad thing is that what she wanted all along was for Asa to act like a normal person, and in finally letting this out, she is making a scene in public and drawing attention to herself.
  11. Fanfic. My Little Denarians: The breaking down of Sunset's relationship with Celestia started when the former lost her patience with a schoolmate who kept annoying her while she was trying to study for an important test and let him have it.
  12. Fanfic. One Punch Gamer: Not really an insult per se, but perceived as such by Death Gun, who couldn't believe that Kirito didn't remember his name from SAO. He ends up using the skills he received so much that end up destroying himself in the real world.
  13. Literature.Baccano: Isaac and Miria undergo one in The Slash after snaps at them for their melodrama over his truly heinous crime of knocking over their domino setup.
  14. Music.Super Ghostbusters: After being told by his parents to shut off the music, the singer of "Ghostdubster" got "really angry, and shit [his] diaper."
  15. Recap. The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air S 2 E 4 PSAT Pstory: Despite his PSAT score being lower than Will's by only a point, Carlton becomes extremely upset and refuses to let it go; even Will, who loves to gloat on him whenever given the opportunity, feels like the difference is too minor to warrant tormenting Carlton more than a little bit.
  16. Recap. The Sandman 1989 Brief Lives Arc: Never easy company in the best times, Delirium wears thin on Dream's patience, along with the general destruction (lowercase "d") their quest is causing. Though he doesn't insult her, he basically tells her the whole quest was his idea of a lark, he didn't really want to find Destruction, and he's not going to help her look anymore... all in a polite yet cold manner. Delirium knows her extreme struggles with clearheadedness, to say the least, make her odds of finding Destruction (her favorite sibling) alone next to nil, this being why she got Dream to come with her in the first place, so she hides inside her realm crying and closes the portraits leading into it. Death gives Dream one of her most severe dressing-downs in the series and gets him to go and apologize, which he does despite the risk Delirium could drive him permanently insane. It all turns out for the best, and they reconcile. This looks like a correct use of the Example As Thesis
  17. Sandbox.Police Quest Singular Games: Helen Hots, the first person you pull over in the game, tries to talk her way out of a ticket by seducing you. When you (correctly) remain professional and write the ticket anyway, Helen delivers a series of insults and threats to Sonny that get increasingly unhinged, to the point that when you're walking away, the narrator lampshades the ridiculousness:
You're doing your job, you're trying to promote safe driving, and then people like her have to rain on your parade.
  18. Series.W817: A playwright has one, after Zoë unintentionally pans his play.
Zoë [trying to prove a point to Mickey]: Attention, everyone! Who enjoyed this play?
    [Everyone raises his hand]
Zoë: And who can tell me what the play was about?
    [Everyone lowers his hand again]
    Zoë [To Mickey]: See!
Man in the corner: I have failed you!
    [the man runs of crying]
    Zoë: Who was that?
    Mickey: The playwright...
  19. Police Quest 1: In Pursuit of the Death Angel: Helen Hots, the first person you pull over in the game, tries to talk her way out of a ticket by seducing you. When you (correctly) remain professional and write the ticket, Helen delivers a series of insults and threats to Sonny that get increasingly unhinged, to the point that when you're walking away, the narrator lampshades the ridiculousness:
You're doing your job, you're trying to promote safe driving, and then people like her have to rain on your parade.

    Character gets insulted (23/151)
  1. AudioPlay. The Unfinished Spelling Errors Of Bolkien: The Balrog is pissed because Pippin apparently dropped the dead orc into his mug of cocoa.
  2. Characters.Ka Blam: In Won't Stick To Most Dental Work, he storms off the show after June picks on him too many times.
  3. Characters.Stranger Things The Party: When he and Mike spar with words, the latter accuses him of not liking girls. In response, Will leaves in tears, and tears down Castle Byers. Considering Will is gay and in love with Mike in a very homophobic time period, one can understand why he reacts this way.
  4. Film.Do The Right Thing: For Want Of A Nail: A petty argument about a character's choice of decoration snowballs into a full-blown race riot. Buggin' Out attempts to start a boycott on Sal's pizzeria because Sal won't put up pictures of black people on his Wall of Fame. He succeeds in getting Radio Raheem and Smiley on the protest, and they begin protesting Sal, which led to Sal breaking Radio Raheem's radio, which led to Raheem's attack on Sal, which led to the cops showing up and killing Radio Raheem, which led to Mookie starting a riot by throwing a trash can at Sal's pizzeria, which led to the pizzeria being burnt down...over some pictures. Everything that happened in the spoilered part was bad, but none of it would've happened if Buggin' Out and Sal weren't so utterly stubborn about the pictures.
  5. For Want Of A Nail.Film: A petty argument about a character's choice of decoration snowballs into a full-blown race riot in Do the Right Thing. Everything that happened in the spoilered part was bad, but none of it would've happened if Buggin' Out wasn't so insistent on the pictures.
  6. GameOfThrones.Tropes L To O: Wildlings refer to everyone south of the Wall as "Southerners," which annoys several Northerners.
  7. LetsPlay.Sea Nanners: Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Regularly disparages his opponents as a means of making them get angry and more likely to screw up.
  8. PlayingWith.Hypocritical Heartwarming: When Alice is defending him, Bob realizes her hypocrisy—she insults him all the time! Why should she get away with it? Realizing that he's fed up with her treatment of him, he:
    a) Stops hanging out with her.
    b) Sees right through Alice, and, although he has flaws as she points out, that doesn't outweigh Alice's flaw - hypocrisy. Knowing they enjoyed insulting him together, Bob begins to snap and gives both Alice and Charlie the brutal, well-deserved beatdown of a lifetime. c) Give his "friend" some mild insults, or very harsh criticism. Surprised at this, Alice breaks down into tears, leaving Bob remorseful for his actions.
  9. PlayingWith.Laser Guided Karma: Alice ridicules Bob, damaging his feelings. Later, she becomes sick.
  10. PlayingWith.Made Out To Be A Jerkass: Straight: Bob gives Alice a long lecture about how much he's sick and tired of her cruelty. As Alice cries after hearing this, the citizens label Bob as a bigger jerk than Alice.

  1. Idiot Houdini: The character who provokes Minor Insult Meltdown is usually also this as other characters scold the meltdowner rather than the provocateur.
  2. The Thing That Would Not Leave: Expect a tearful farewell from the guest as they disappear out into the cold, and a mountain of regret from the homeowners as they wonder whether there was a better way to handle the situation. Or, alternatively, an attempt for the guest to provoke a tearful farewell by acting wounded and bemoaning their hosts' ungraciousness — only for the by-now hard-hearted host, who has gone way past any limits of tolerance they may have had with this annoying and inconsiderate leech, to push them out the door (perhaps while screaming, "Get Out!"), slam it shut and lock it behind them. Describes a fake breakdown
  3. "Wanted!" Poster: # The Deadpool vs. Deathstroke episode of DEATH BATTLE! has both characters looking at wanted posters of each other. 9. Characters. The Celebrity Apprentice 4: Smug Snake: Caused a lot of conflict and strife on the team early on, and was consistently their weakest member. That said, no-one really seemed to stand up to her, and she ended up taking herself out of the competition as part of a Minor Insult Meltdown.

The Bowler: You're not well-liked. You're uh, you're abrasive and off-putting. You try and say pithy things, but your wit is a hindrance and therefore nothing is provocative. Just mixed metaphors. Now, doesn't that make you angry? Does it infuriate you?

  26. YMMV.The Authority: Crosses the Line Twice: The leader of evil super-soldiers sent by Krigstein to destroy the French parliament in issue 16 is so ridiculously over-the-top politically incorrect that it actually makes you laugh at him rather than hate him. Of course, this also makes it all the more satisfying when he gets his just desserts, courtesy of Hawksmoor.
Team leader: Civilians are civilized, soldier. These people are French. As much as I hate Mexicans, Asians and blacks, no racial group in the world boils my blood more than these sweaty, horse-eating yahoos.
