Chloé Bourgeois / Scarlet Lady

Our Nominal Heroine, who stole the box containing the Ladybug earrings from Marinette's purse in hopes of hurting her, only to find herself with the power to become Scarlet Lady. Unfortunately for all involved, these new responsibilities do little to temper her attitude problems. Quite the opposite, in fact...

    A-D
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Three times over:
    • Towards Adrien. Initially only when she's Scarlet Lady, with Adrien quickly identifying her as THAT kind of fan, but he eventually grows weary of Chloé, too, as her personality degrades.
    • When she meets Luka, she immediately gets a small crush on him. However, Luka already knows her as his sister's bully and is horrified when he finds out about the crush.
    • She's a fan of XY... who quickly becomes terrified when he meets Scarlet Lady and realizes she's a Stalker with a Crush. He's more dismissive than scared of her civilian identity, though.
  • Accidental Public Confession:
    • After seeing that no one (other than Sabrina) voted for her in the class representative election, she outright asks where her votes from her classmates taking her CDs are... right in front of Mme. Bustier.
    • She (as Scarlet Lady) states in "Prime Queen" she doesn't care if Alya dies since she can be brought back with the Miraculous Cure... having forgotten that everything was being broadcast live on TV, meaning all of Paris saw and heard her show her callousness towards people's lives.
  • Adaptational Badass: Zigzagged. Instead of getting the powerful but standard Bee Miraculous, Chloé gets a hold of the outright overpowered Ladybug Miraculous, turning her into a hero as powerful as canon Ladybug... allegedly. On the other hand, she's far less competent than canon Ladybug or even Queen Bee is because she doesn't bother to actually train or do any fighting, instead just using Lucky Charm and Miraculous Cure as needed, partly because she doesn't have a superhero to look up to, like how Chloé in canon initially admired Ladybug.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Downplayed in "Queen Wasp": unlike canon, she doesn't try to crash a train full of civilians, just to give herself a chance to show off. Unfortunately, the rest of her track record as Scarlet Lady already speaks for itself...
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Takes part in multiple situations she was largely if not entirely absent from in the show. In such cases, she gets hit with this trope simply by appearing more and being her usual self:
      • She barges in on Adrien's photoshoot in the park in "Stormy Weather," shoving Marinette right into Manon in the process, and argues with the photographer when he decides against letting her model with Adrien. In canon, she didn't appear in the episode at all.
      • Chloé deliberately tries to prevent Adrien and Marinette from spending time together practicing for the Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament, something she wasn't concerned about in canon.
      • Whereas she was absent in canon "La Befana," here, Chloé uses Crocodile Tears to get Mme. Bustier to make the class invite her to the party they were planning. Moreover, upon learning it's Marinette's birthday party, she purposely tries to sabotage it instead of simply not attending.
      • In addition to her annoying antics during fencing tryouts in "Riposte," Chloé is the one who declares Adrien the winner in his bout against Kagami instead of Marinette. Moreover, whereas Marinette in the show stated upfront she wasn't sure, Chloé's call is blatantly biased.
      • Similarly, Chloé invites herself to the concert on the Liberty in "Captain Hardrock," then files a false noise complaint to Officer Roger out of spite after she's kicked off the boat. She didn't do either of these things in the show.
      • She develops a small crush on Luka in "Captain Hardrock" and afterwards starts clinging to him and repeatedly violating his personal space despite his obvious dislike of her. In canon, she had almost no interaction with him.
      • As with "The Gamer," despite not even appearing in the canon episode, Chloé tries to prevent Marinette and Adrien from spending time together in "Animan" in the comic.
      • Whereas she canonically wasn't involved in Bob Roth and XY's scheme in "Silencer" to steal from Kitty Section, here, she outright helps them and is even smug when she sees Bob manhandling Marinette while threatening the latter to keep quiet about the plagiarism, something that even XY was put off by.
      • She's the one who rips Marc's "Diary of Ladybug" in "Reverser"; she had nothing to do with their akumatization in canon.
    • Chloé at least had the excuse of her privacy being violated when she got Alya suspended in canon "Lady Wifi"; here, Alya instead tries to snoop through Marinette's locker, and Chloé gets Alya suspended simply because she's mad at the very idea that Alya suspects Marinette is Scarlet Lady.
    • When Chloé's proven to have plagiarized Marinette in "Mr. Pigeon," rather than just immediately storm off, she tries to make Sabrina The Scapegoat by insisting it was all the latter's idea, which nobody believes.
    • Unlike in the show, Sabrina enters a Heroic BSoD due to her "best friend" getting her father fired. Thus, Chloé comes off as even more of a Jerkass than in canon, showing no concern for Sabrina when she manhandles her friend and angrily demands Sabrina give up her bag to be searched.
    • In canon, Chloé dropped Alix's watch because she was startled by it going off near her. Here, she deliberately drops it out of spite.
    • She still claims in "Frozer" that she wants the ice rink closed down and converted into a gym, but it becomes even pettier because she's only doing it to ruin Adrien and Marinette's first date.
  • Adaptational Karma: Gets hit with this in spades, facing more comeuppances for her actions than in canon:
    • Instead of just losing the design contest, Chloé gets called out for her idiotic attempts at both plagiarism and scapegoating Sabrina for it, running off crying after Principal Damocles, Gabriel, and Nathalie disqualify and ban her from all future contests. It's also implied that Sabrina and Adrien, her only friends, will grow further disillusioned with her due to this.
    • In "Rogercop," Mayor Bourgeois forces Chloé to apologize to Marinette for accusing her, and although Chloé isn't aware of it yet, she has done lasting damage to her friendship with Sabrina, who unlike canon is visibly still upset at the end about her supposed best friend getting her father fired. Lastly, though it won't get brought up again for some time, Chloé has set herself up for further humiliation once Sabrina and Roger find out the mayor never even had the power to fire him to begin with.
    • It's made clear in "Darkblade" that her attempt to buy votes was doomed to fail from the start: her classmates later straight up tell her that they didn't have any intention of actually voting for her when they attended her campaign launch and accepted her free CDs, comparing them to campaign buttons. Moreover, when Chloé tries to scapegoat Sabrina for the theft of Marinette's diary, the class calls her out on her Blatant Lies, with Alix pointing out that Sabrina only acts out when Chloé makes her. Finally, Mme. Bustier asks Chloé if she had attempted to bribe her classmates when the latter makes an Accidental Public Confession at the end.
    • Sabrina snarks at Chloé and refuses to help carry out her schemes in "Reflekta," citing how badly it turned out for her when Chloé forced her to steal Marinette's diary. Adrien also pushes Chloé off of him when the class photo is taken, having gotten fed up with her bad behavior.
    • Sabrina finally reaches her Rage Breaking Point with Chloé in "Evillustrator," giving her a "The Reason You Suck" Speech and having to be physically held back from attacking her by Marinette. Though she "forgives" Chloé at the end of the episode, she makes it clear this is Chloé's Last-Second Chance.
    • Unlike in canon, where the Kung Food incident has seemingly been forgotten, here, Jagged Stone clearly remembers Chloé as "the little psycho who almost poisoned me when I judged World's Greatest Chef," and it comes back to bite her when he mentions the incident during a TV interview, guaranteeing far more public humiliation for Chloé than in canon, where she was simply revealed to have lied about being Ladybug.
    • Being "vanished" into a phantom world where she can't even interact with anything or anyone from the real world is clearly a much harsher retribution for Chloé than the comparatively mild harassment and akumatization she received in canon. More importantly, Status Quo Is God is decisively averted, with Sabrina permanently ending her toxic friendship with Chloé, leaving the latter without anyone to pawn her responsibilities off on.
    • In "Dark Cupid," because she forged Adrien's signature on her poster instead of tricking him to sign it, she gets caught immediately when she shows it off while bragging about allegedly being Adrien's valentine, with his fan club (and Tikki) calling her stunt "pathetic."
    • Adrien straight up tells Chloé that they aren't friends anymore after her fire alarm stunt in "Despair Bear" rather than just giving her an ultimatum; he doesn't forgive her by the episode's end, either.
    • The end of "Style Queen" has Chloé and her mother walking down an entire flight of stairs from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower despite the elevator being in service in this universe. Alya herself even muses how the two are taking the long way down, but she decides against reminding either Chloé or Audrey about the elevator due to their antics back at the fashion show.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Heavily downplayed, but she doesn't attack Marinette and Wang Cheng's race during "Kung Food," unlike her canon counterpart.
  • Adaptational Sexuality:invoked Per Word of Gay. While Chloé in the show is solely into boys (mostly Adrien), here, she's "Money-Power-Fame-sexual"—that is, all she cares about is how rich and famous the person is, not their gender (her crush on Luka notwithstanding).
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of getting a hold of Venom, Chloé gains control of both Lucky Charm and Miraculous Cure.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: Downplayed, but her Freudian Excuse of an emotionally abusive mother is given far more weight than it was in canon.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Being Scarlet Lady has boosted Chloé's massive ego and selfish behavior to extreme heights, with her over-retaliating even more to perceived slights, and it just gets worse as the comic continues. She goes from blowing off Sabrina and taking all the credit for Chat Noir's work to purposefully causing akumas and trying to get Marinette (temporarily) killed.
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • Compared to the canonical Ladybug or Queen Bee, as this Chloé is heavily reliant upon Lucky Charm and Miraculous Cure, as well as on her "sidekicks" handling the bulk of the fighting. It's explained in supplemental materials that while canon Chloé has Ladybug to admire and emulate, Scarlet Lady has neither a mentor/role model nor any desire to improve on her own, since she already gets praise just for showing up and using Miraculous Cure, while Chat Noir will handle the fight for her because he's a real hero.
    • Downplayed regarding her tendency to invoke Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!. While canon touched upon it, the comic puts stronger emphasis on how André Bourgeois isn't an Ultimate Authority Mayor, meaning Chloé isn't always able to get her way just by threatening to get her father involved.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • With Adrien. Because he Grew a Spine from having to put up with her in his role as Chat Noir, it takes him far less time to realize Chloé is a toxic individual who is beyond his help and to dump her as a friend.
    • With Sabrina. Chloé's double life as Scarlet Lady causes her to treat Sabrina even worse than in canon, leading Sabrina to slowly realize their "friendship" is toxic and ultimately ditch her.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Her final defeat is treated as a somewhat somber moment: Zoé points out that her half-sister has basically turned into a monster and thrown her own life away in a desperate attempt to earn the love of their mother Audrey, a heartless, cruel, and utterly despicable woman who quite frankly isn't worth the effort.
  • All Take and No Give: If you're in any sort of relationship with her, prepare to do all the work and be marginalized while she takes credit for everything but your (or her own) mistakes. The most she's ever offered to do for someone is loaning Sabrina a beret for doing her homework. It wears heavily even on her canonically toxic relationship with Sabrina, with even the canonical Extreme Doormat starting to push back when she is given nothing as part of their friendship, not even being able to hang around Chloé often because of her activities as Scarlet Lady.
  • Ambitious, but Lazy: Scarlet Lady seeks to be the most popular and beloved hero in Paris. To do this, rather than put in any real hard work or diligence towards her job, she instead always showing up as late as possible and relying on the restorative powers of the Ladybug Miraculous to make herself look indispensable while letting Chat Noir and the other heroes do the work for her. This does work for a while, as her powers are indispensable, but eventually, her laziness and pettiness catches up to her, and the public starts to cotton on to her true nature.
  • The Artifact: Marigold's debut already pushed her into Decoy Protagonist, but as the Bee heroine and Chat Noir not only became more comfortable working together, but also started bringing in temporary heroes, Scar's role and importance to the plot has become increasingly smaller, with only the Ladybug earrings saving her from becoming completely irrelevant.
  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to feel sympathetic towards her whenever she suffers from any misfortune.
  • Attention Whore: One of the main reasons that she's willing to play the heroine at all is because she enjoys having the attention and gratitude of Paris. Ironically, Vanisher unknowingly turns out to be one of her worst foes, with the akuma's powers keeping Chloé from being seen, heard, or noticed at all. Chloé has a near breakdown from being ignored for so long.
  • Bad Liar: Prone to telling Blatant Lies when called out, such as insisting that Sabrina came up with all her schemes.
  • Believing Their Own Lies:
    • She thinks she was meant to be the Ladybug Miraculous holder, that she's doing a magnificent job as a heroine, and that Adrien loves her. In truth, she stole the Ladybug earrings from the intended person (Marinette), she rarely (if ever) does anything beyond using Miraculous Ladybug to repair the damage caused, and Adrien increasingly sees her as an annoyance and Abhorrent Admirer.
    • In "Despair Bear," after crying over Adrien declaring they weren't friends anymore, she thinks that throwing a party will prove she is nice and get her back into Adrien's good graces. Unlike in canon, Butler Jean doesn't really encourage this belief, saying only "Uh, sure" with a Sweat Drop speech balloon, though Chloé later yells that she's had enough of his stupid party after hitting her Rage Breaking Point. Moreover, by the end of the chapter, she's wholly convinced herself that Adrien was the one who overreacted by ending their friendship and that she and Adrien are still friends because she forgives him.
    • Chloé tries to trick Adrien's fan club into thinking she's his valentine by forging his signature on a perfume ad poster of him. They immediately recognize the forgery and call her out on her lie, and the poster is next shown to have had the bottom portion, presumably including the signature, torn off. Nevertheless, Chloé seems to have genuinely started believing the poster was autographed by Adrien, clutching it close to her when the fan club calls her stunt "pathetic" and continuing to describe it as her autographed poster to Chat Noir and Marigold when the heroes are standing right in front of it and can clearly see there's no signature. She even puts it in a 18-carat gold frame (having initially bought a 24-carat one, only for her order to get mixed up) and cries when her ripped poster gets destroyed.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Don't ignore her, don't insult her, and don't get between her and her Adrikins.
    • Never suggest the idea of someone else being the Ladybug hero instead of her.
    • "Zombizou" reveals a new one: don't bring up her mommy issues. When Sabrina mentions Audrey's apathy towards Chloé, it's one of the few times Chloé is genuinely furious.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Hawkmoth, she is responsible for many of the akumasnote  (which she is aware of and uses to her advantage) and has no qualms abusing her Miraculous to sabotage anyone in her way despite being a "hero."
  • Big "NO!": Her reaction at the end of "Frozer" when she realizes that in spite of the titular akuma interrupting Marinette and Adrien's date, the two haven't lost any interest in each other.
  • Birds of a Feather: In "Silencer," Chloé joins the table with Bob Roth and his son XY and learns of their plans to steal ideas from other musicians. She thinks, "Ahhh, my people!" The attraction is one-sided—Bob and XY keep forgetting her name.
  • Break the Haughty: In "Queen Wasp," the realization that nobody actually likes Chloé or Scarlet Lady finally starts breaking through her delusions of grandeur and leads her to a sobbing breakdown.
  • Bribe Backfire: Chloé attempts to buy her classmates' votes in the class representative race by offering them free CDs, throwing a fancy campaign launch, and hiring Jagged Stone to sign autographs at said launch. The class shows up and happily accepts the free giveaways while still fully intent on voting for Marinette, meaning Chloé wasted all her money for nothing in return. Moreover, she later makes an Accidental Public Confession when she complains about this in front of the teacher, causing her to be questioned about trying to bribe her classmates.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Starts off as Adrien's Only Friend from his childhood, but he gets increasingly fed up with her bad behavior. He finally declares they aren't friends anymore after her fire department stunt in "Despair Bear."
    • Théo feels this way about her after seeing her true nature at the end of "Copycat."
    • Becomes this to Sabrina after she gets Roger fired for a petty slight right in front of her "best friend," causing Sabrina to grow increasingly distant. She eventually ends her "friendship" with Chloé permanently.
    • In "Despair Bear," upon arriving on the scene as Scarlet Lady, she ends up ruining her reputation with many of her fans when she says to everyone that she's best friends with Chloé.
    • Her Scarlet Lady pedestal gets broken for most of Paris in "Prime Queen" thanks to her being caught on a live camera feed indulging in her usual apathy regarding civilians, insisting that it's fine if the currently-hostage Alya dies because Scarlet can just bring her back with Miraculous Cure, which horrifies the watching citizens of Paris.
  • Broken Tears: In "Vanisher," Chloé literally cries when she can't get anyone's attention due to having been made invisible, inaudible, and intangible, to the great amusement of the akuma. There seems to be some Sanity Slippage, too, as Chloé has a wild look in her eyes during the ordeal.
  • Brought Down to Normal: In "Vanisher," Chloé loses contact with Tikki, who flies away to avoid being spotted by the invisible akuma. Even worse, Chloé herself has been made invisible, inaudible, and intangible to everyone, meaning she won't be able to use Tikki to transform. She has also effectively been reduced from her high status to a nobody, a ghost.
  • Bruce Wayne Held Hostage:
    • In "Kung Food," Chloé gets captured by the akuma's minions as in canon. Tikki, who was left behind in her purse, flies to her, thinking, "I hope Chloé doesn't anger the akuma and get killed before I get there." It gets even worse when she is tied up and dangled over boiling soup as in canon. Tikki can't untie her without letting her drop. It takes a rescue by Chat Noir before she can hide and transform.
    • In "Vanisher," Chloé is effectively kidnapped in the eyes of the world. While still physically free, she is invisible, inaudible, and intangible to everyone, including Tikki.
    • In "Pixelator," the akuma takes a photo of her, capturing her.
    • In "Ikari Gozen," she is gobbled up by the titular akuma and needs rescuing.
    • She's turned into a statue alongside Adrien in "Style Queen" and needs to be freed by Marigold.
  • Bullying a Dragon: In "Riposte," Chloé insults Kagami and nearly gets a saber in the toe. Later, she calls Riposte "Chrome-Dome" (this is normally allowable superhero behavior, since mocking villains may draw their attacks away from civilians, but that is not Scarlet Lady's intent here).
  • Butt-Monkey: Since she became a "heroine," she has suffered lots of mishaps and misfortunes. And it keeps getting worse for her.
  • …But He Sounds Handsome:
    • She's prone to hyping up Scarlet Lady's beauty and competence in her civilian form.
    • In "Dark Cupid," Scarlet Lady explains to Kim that he got akumatized because he couldn't handle "rejection from a pretty girl." Kim promptly corrects her impression that he was trying to ask Chloé out.
    • After Mme. Bustier has recovered from being Zombizou, she cluelessly thanks Scarlet Lady for being Chloé's "best friend."
Caline Bustier: I'm so glad she has you as a good influence.
      Scarlet Lady: Um, thanks?
Caline Bustier: Chloé's friends note  aren't being very nice right now, so I was worried.
Scarlet Lady: That's no big deal. Chloé only surrounds herself with the best after all. They're just being dramatic.
Caline Bustier: Thank goodness! [hugs her] Thank you for not leaving Chloé alone!
Scarlet Lady: [sweat drops] Heheh, Yeah, sure.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': In canon "Dark Cupid," Chloé is able to trick Adrien into signing a poster with a romantic message by pretending it's a petition about hamsters; she then uses it to make other girls cry in jealousy. In this AU, she knows better than to attempt this with the more suspicious Adrien. She forges his name instead, but the fangirls see right through it, causing her to get called "pathetic" for the second time that day (the first time was by Tikki).
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: On both sides of this.
  • Caught on Tape: In "Kung Food," it's revealed that a security camera filmed Chloé while she was messing with the soup.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper:
    • Like in canon, Chloé's attempt to cheat her way into winning the design contest in "Mr. Pigeon" fails because the people she hired to make her hat based on the stolen design copied Marinette's name as well. Marinette also points out that only she has the original sketches for her design. After Chloé gets caught, Gabriel and Nathalie disqualify her and ban her from all future contests.
    • She attempts to bribe her classmates for their votes in the class election by throwing a fancy campaign launch and offering them free CDs. They show up and happily accept the free giveaways while still fully intent on voting for Marinette anyway.
    • She tries to cheat on the scavenger hunt in "Ikari Gozen" (though she wasn't technically even a contestant due to her contest application being rejected on account of her plagiarism in Gabriel's design contest in "Mr. Pigeon") by following Marinette and Kagami. She ambushes Marinette and takes the cell phone she is holding, thinking she has the final clue. Not only has she missed the final step to get to Adrien's location, but she finds herself face to face with Kagami, whose phone she has stolen.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She wants to be hanging off Adrien's arm at all times, much to his exasperation, and always flies off the handle if a girl so much as says, "Hi," to him.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • When standing up to Chloé in the second part of "Origins," Marinette compares her directly to supervillains like Hawkmoth, calling her a lowlife. Chloé is more upset by her offhandedly insulting her "stupid ponytail" near the end of her speech. Sabrina even lampshades this.
Sabrina: That's what you're mad about?
    • "The Pharaoh" sees Tikki attempting to convince Chloé to take Sabrina to see the Egyptian exhibit at the museum so they can brush up on their history together. The Kwami mentions that there will also be some cool Ladybug-related stuff to see there... and Chloé immediately leaps to the conclusion that there's a brand-new Scarlet Lady exhibit, ditching her study date with Sabrina to hurry off to the museum.
    • Chloé only watches The Challenge so she can see Adrien, even though the contestant is Nino.
    • As Simon Says begins attacking Agreste Manor, M. Agreste orders Nathalie to take the teens to Adrien's room; Scarlet Lady thinks this means she's being invited to join Adrien.
    • Upon hearing in "The Collector" that Adrien's been grounded, Chloé assumes it means he's never coming back to school and has a Comical Overreaction over it.
    • In "Kung Food," Chloé tells Tikki to shut up and fails to realize the latter only obeyed because she's compelled to. Later in the episode, despite being dangled over a swimming pool full of hot soup, Chloé fails to realize the akuma intends to cook her until he outright states it. Additionally, while she does fear falling in, she only seems to be concerned that her hair will be ruined and not that she'll be boiled alive.
    • When Tikki points out how Mlle. Mendeleiev won't buy her "traumatized by hairdryers" excuse, Chloé states that she's right—an army of hairdryers couldn't dull her beauty.
    • Even after Vanisher explains to Chloé how the latter's been rendered completely invisible and inaudible, Chloé continues trying the same tactics to get attention: yelling and complaining.
    • During the interview at the beginning of "Syren," Chat Noir states he's happier nowadays because he now has an amazing partner in Marigold. Chloé misses the blatant implication that Chat Noir thinks Scarlet Lady is useless—because she's only angry about the "sidekicks" doing an interview without her.
    • Chloé declares that Adrien's Valentine's Day poem isn't describing her "properly"; she doesn't realize that it's not describing her period.
    • When Puppeteer yells a string of childish insults about the heroes, Scarlet Lady only reacts to the accusation that she's "not pretty."
    • When XY declares that both she and Jagged Stone are crazy and that he's heading home, Scarlet Lady offers to carry him down herself, not understanding that he specifically wants to get away from her.
    • In "Ikari Gozen," when Tikki complains about Chloé following Marinette and Kagami, Chloé misinterprets it as Tikki implying that she doesn't think they're smart enough to win, off-handedly "agreeing" with the Kwami... but the two might win, and that's not fair to HER, is it?
    • She spends a good deal of "Gorizilla" trying to "rescue" Adrien from Marinette and complaining that he's making it harder for her by fleeing with Marinette each time.
    • Chloé doesn't even consider the possibility that an akuma's responsible for her being attacked by her belongings in "Sandboy" until Tikki suggests it. Instead, she's convinced that her stuff got jealous of her and came to life to overthrow her.
    • Scarlet Lady fails to pick up on the idea that dancing is meant to make their movements harder for Party Crasher to predict, which enables him to easily pick her off while she's showing off her training.
    • She doesn't seem to realize that Chat Noir and Marigold are flirting with each other in "Frozer" and simply dismisses their behavior as them being weird. When Marigold laters asks Chat Noir why he just called her "Ma Princesse," a nickname he's only ever used for her civilian identity, Scarlet Lady interrupts by stating it's obvious—she's wearing a tiara!
    • "Queen Wasp" has Audrey scoff at the idea that Chloé is exceptional and then list several of her daughter's recent failures. Chloé is just touched that her mother's actually kept abreast of what's going on in her life, not realizing Audrey is actually bringing them up to roast her.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Tries to bribe Sabrina into doing her share of work for their physics project by promising to loan her a stylish beret. Sabrina refuses, saying Chloé never keeps her promises anyway. The next episode shows that she did loan Sabrina that beret... only to snatch it back when Sabrina ruins her attempts to pretend to be friends with Scarlet Lady.
  • Composite Character: Her eventual akumatized form, Queen Wasp, who on top of her canon paralysis powers receives mind-control abilities akin to another of Chloé's akuma forms, Miracle Queen. The author even refers to this as the "Miracle Queen Upgrade" in the caption for the page revealing this.
  • Crocodile Tears: Chloé's quite prone to doing this, sometimes with the help of some eyedrops.
    • She tries this when claiming Marinette is bullying her in "Origins, Part 2." Adrien sees right through her act and calls her out.
    • She does it again in "Evillustrator," claiming she was traumatized by the akuma attack in her room. This wins her a "last chance" from Sabrina... which she promptly wastes prior to "Vanisher."
  • Damned by Faint Praise: When her classmates show up well-dressed to her party in "Despair Bear," she says, "Huh, they don't look totally homeless."
  • Decoy Protagonist: Played with. Scarlet Lady may be the titular character of the comic, but the series is still more about Marinette and Adrien's story, except now, Marinette doesn't have the powers to really fight akuma at first and instead often can only provide support while Chat Noir does the majority of the heavy lifting. Scarlet Lady... "helps" from time to time but is far more worthless than even Queen Bee was in the canon series, being seen instead as an annoying necessity. She falls Out of Focus after "Vanisher."
  • Didn't Think This Through: Frequently fails to see potential flaws in her plans, pushing ahead with full confidence of her victory, only to have them blow up in her face.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Prone to reacting ruinously towards any slight, real or perceived.
    • In "Lady Wifi," she maneuvers to get Alya suspended from school after overhearing her speculating that Marinette is Scarlet Lady. This is despite Alya snooping through Marinette's locker here, with Marinette having even given her the combination.
    • In "The Gamer," she tries to Murder the Hypotenuse through proxy to "punish" Marinette for spending time with Adrien.
    • In "Volpina," she responds to Lila's claims that they are besties by throwing her into a fountain, escalating a relatively minor Celebrity Lie into outright assault and battery.
    • In "Captain Hardrock," she gets Anarka in trouble with the cops because she got kicked off Anarka's houseboat (that she wasn't even invited on).
    • When Zoé reveals they don't know who Scarlet Lady is in "Malediktator," Chloé responds by interrupting a wedding to demand her father close the entire school and banish her half-sister from Paris.
  • A Dog Ate My Homework: She considers saying that she was "traumatized by hairdryers" as an excuse for not getting her physics work done. Tikki thinks the teacher won't buy it.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point:
    • She dismisses Adrien's threat to end their friendship in "Origins Part 2," claiming that "He didn't mean that" and that he'll lose interest in their classmates after "realizing how lame they are." Her refusal to take the threat seriously eventually leads to him following through on it.
    • When Sabrina tries explaining to Chloé in "The Bubbler" that Adrien's gift won't be delivered for another week because the titular akuma's attack sent all the adults away, Chloé fails to make the connection and angrily demands, "SO WHAT?!"
    • Sabrina spirals into a Heroic BSoD in "Rogercop" after Chloé orders her father to fire Roger after the officer refused to immediately arrest Marinette for theft like Chloé demanded and instead suggested Chloé may have misplaced her bracelet. Upon seeing her "best friend" in such a state, Chloé simply accuses Sabrina of being sketchy before demanding her friend give up her bag to be searched. Additionally, Chloé is so hellbent on getting Marinette arrested for allegedly stealing her bracelet that she drags the latter to Rogercop. When the akuma tells Chloé to get into his car so that they can discuss it, she's so relieved by the prospect of the akuma arresting Marinette that she complies, throwing Marinette inside before getting in the car herself, which of course results in the two of them becoming the akuma's hostages. She then continues to argue with Marinette and try to get Rogercop to arrest her as the car flies off, still oblivious to her situation.
    • While working together with Marinette to take down Gamer, Chat makes a pointed comment about how he knows he can rely upon her. Scarlet reacts more to the way he's flirting with Marinette than to the implied insult aimed her way.
    • Multiple cases of this in "Reflekta":
      • After getting increasingly frustrated by Chloé's antics, Adrien hits his Rage Breaking Point and outright shoves her away right as the class photo is being taken. Despite this moment of rejection being immortalized on film, Chloé still views the photo as "her picture with Adrien" and proof of their bond.
      • Sabrina refuses to do Chloé's dirty work for her anymore, having grown tired of her "friend" taking her for granted. Chloé utterly fails to comprehend this and just dismisses it as weird behavior.
      • When Maotif says Chat Noir "doesn't need powers to fight akuma" and uses themself as an example by claiming to "do it all the time," Scarlet Lady, unlike Chat Noir, fails to realize Maotif is Marinette.
    • She fails to understand why she should be concerned about civilians dying when she can just bring them back with the Miraculous Cure after she wins, expressing this sentiment in "Volpina," "Captain Hardrock," and "Prime Queen," much to others' horror.
    • In "The Collector," Chloé demands that Marinette give her Lila's contact information so she can track Lila down and make her pay for stealing Gabriel's book and thus getting Adrien grounded. Marinette refuses and adds that she already gave the book back to Adrien, meaning there's no need to bother Lila over it. Chloé completely misses this and instead just declares that she'll have to find Lila herself if Marinette won't help her.
    • Scarlet Lady bumps into Chat Noir while fleeing La Befana, leading the akuma to where Marinette is in the process. Despite all this, the heroine fails to realize why Chat Noir is so mad at her, responding to his Death Glare with a Defensive "What?"
    • She utterly fails to understand why Sabrina is angry at her for refusing to pull her weight for their group's physics report in "Evillustrator" and thinks that bribing Sabrina by offering to lend her a beret is enough to fix things. When Sabrina later agrees to give her one Last-Second Chance, Chloé still doesn't realize that Sabrina is serious about possibly ending their friendship and just brushes it off with a "Yeah, sure, whatever!"
    • "Vanisher" is filled with examples of her doing this:
      • Despite Mayor Bourgeois calling a sudden staff meeting and airing an emergency broadcast about his daughter's disappearance as well as the class noting her absence, Chloé doesn't realize that she's been rendered invisible, inaudible, and intangible until Vanisher outright tells her.
      • Chloé fails to realize that Vanisher is targeting her out of vengeance for something Chloé did the day before, insisting to the akuma that she never messes up. Afterwards, she declares that it's not her fault that Vanisher and all the other akumas that have attacked her did so because they're jealous (as opposed to her being an unrepentant Jerkass).
      • Sabrina interrupts Chloé's tirade about how the former got akumatized and "attacked [her] best friend!" to counter that she and Chloé are no longer friends. Chloé complains that she's the one breaking up with Sabrina, not the other way round, rather than focus on the loss of their friendship.
      • Sometime after the akuma's defeat, Chloé yells at Tikki, "Where were you?!" and complains that there are ladybugs all over, not realizing Tikki is sick from having to a difficult solo World-Healing Wave to rescue her holder from the akuma's power.
    • When Chloé intrudes on the group of four in "Animan," Adrien glowers that she somehow managed to find him despite him never telling her he'd be at the zoo. Chloé completely misses (or chooses to ignore) the implications of his words or his angry tone, declaring she must've found him due to their "deep connection."
    • When Pixelator, an obvious akuma, claims to be her biggest fan and asks if he can take her picture—right before asking what her name is—Chloé agrees and strikes a pose, failing to sense the imminent danger or pick up on the clear inconsistency.
    • She does this throughout the entirety of "Despair Bear":
      • When Adrien confronts Chloé about calling the fire department, she completely fails to pick up on his incredulity and proudly admits her crime. She also doesn't comprehend why he's talking about how much he's learned about friendship, clearly wondering what his point is before getting blindsided by his declaration that they aren't friends anymore.
      • Chloé acts as if the only reason why Adrien broke his friendship with her was the "little prank," completely missing his point that calling the fire department just to stop the baking lesson was actually the straw that broke the camel's back.
      • Even when she decides to throw a party to show how "nice" she is, she still doesn't understand the spirit behind her butler encouraging her to be nicer to her peers, seeing it simply as a way to win back Adrien's regard.
    • She mistakes the ice cream André hands over to Adrien in "Intermission 2" for a Scarlet Lady cone (though to be fair, several others did as well, including Adrien himself) and thinks it proves that they're soulmates. It turns out André hadn't finished making the ice cream, which was actually supposed to represent Marinette.
    • While trying to convince Luka to ditch his "loser friends" and go solo in "Silencer," Chloé complains about how hard it was for her to reproduce Marinette's work, completely ignoring the fact she was only asked to do so in the first place because Bob Roth deemed it good enough to steal.
    • When asked in "Ikari Gozen" why she isn't competing in the contest, she responds, "My application was denied for some reason," either having forgotten she's still banned from all contests involving the Gabriel brand due to her plagiarism in "Mr. Pigeon" or failing to make the connection between the two events. She also doesn't comprehend that school and after-school clubs are about more than "playing" and complains about Adrien spending time with anyone other than her, not realizing just why he would choose to spend time with other people, especially since he'd already declared the two of them won't be friends from now on.
    • Marinette snarks in "Zombizou" that Chloé would need a heart to care about others. Chloé declares she does have a heart (i.e., the organ) and could even buy Marinette's.
    • Upon overhearing Alix and Nathaniel discuss his new sketches of his own version of Scarlet Lady, "Scarlet Queen," Chloé thinks that her classmate is glorifying her superhero identity in his latest creations. She's very disappointed when she checks the artwork he's posted on the school blog and learns it's actually the opposite.
    • In "Frightningale," despite Clara Nightingale explicitly stating that the auditions are for Marigold and extras, Chloé still shows up expecting to be cast as Scarlet Lady in the music video. Afterwards, Koki Marina protects Scarlet Lady from Frightningale's surprise attack, but Scarlet Lady just accuses the Turtle heroine of "stealing her moment" without acknowledging how Koki Marina just saved her butt.
    • Chloé thanks her half-sister in "Malediktator" when the latter awkwardly notes how alike Chloé and Audrey are. She doesn't seem to have realized that Zoé didn't mean that as a compliment.
    • After hearing Chloé complain about how ungrateful Paris is of all her sacrifices she's supposedly made as Scarlet Lady, Zoé suggests that Chloé just quit if she finds being a superhero to be that big of an unrewarding burden. Unfortunately, Chloé misinterprets this as her sister backstabbing her after only pretending to be on her side.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: During "Kung Food," Chloé gets captured by the titular akuma and hung over a boiling vat of soup. Tikki manages to reach her and prepares to untie her, but Chloé stops the Kwami, pointing out she'll fall into the soup if Tikki undoes the rope now (though she likewise adds her hair will be ruined).
Tikki: You almost have a point there.

    E-M
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted, for Chloé. She expects that putting on a party and then "helping" Scarlet Lady would convince Adrien to forgive her for her fire alarm prank and other acts of meanness. Unlike in canon, it doesn't work.
  • Engineered Heroics: Not only is she fully aware that her actions can cause akumas, "Reflekta" reveals that she sees this as a good thing due to akumas giving her the chance to "show off as Scarlet Lady."
  • Entitled Bitch: Incredibly so. Surely, she deserves the admiration and adulation of Paris and for her beloved Adrikins to serve as her prize!
  • Entitled to Have You: Firmly believes that Adrien, and later also Luka and XY, are hers and hers alone, no matter what they have to say about it.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: In "Queen Wasp," Chloé turns to her sister as her last ally after she outs herself and cements her Hated by All status in the eyes of the public and laments, "Zoékins, this city is so cruel!" using the affectionate diminutive she used to give to Adrien. Zoé tips their hand by suggesting, "Maybe you should just quit." The author comments in a post, "...she believed Zoe was like her and on her side… She was wrong." This final "betrayal" is too much for Chloé, setting her up to be akumatized.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Even she thinks Chat Noir puns are terrible.
    • As much as she doesn't care about who gets hurt by an akuma, she's still disturbed by Animan trying to eat Kim just because the teen claimed to be able to outrun than a panther.
    • Despite her Lack of Empathy and Kick the Dog tendencies, Scarlet Lady actually feels some secondhand embarrassment for Prime Queen when the akuma falls for the Schmuck Bait that the heroes had set up. While she does say that it's embarrassing that the plan worked, it's clear she gets no joy from making fun of such a brain-dead move.
    • Seeing Audrey act so Out of Character while brainwashed by Malediktator creeps even Scarlet out.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • Does not understand the natural consequences of her actions. Why does Chat Noir hate her for constantly calling him her "sidekick" and treating him like crap? Why is Adrien so resistant to her hanging off his arm all the time? Why is Sabrina growing so distant after she got her father fired?
    • In "Ikari Gozen," Chloé watches Marinette and Kagami discuss what nicknames they'd give each other and is puzzled by what they're doing. Tikki snarks, "Being friends?"
  • Evil Hero: She's technically a superhero, but the only reason she opposes Hawkmoth at all is that it makes her look good. Moreover, she does the bare minimum necessary to actually support the claim—Lucky Charm, Miraculous Cure, and occasionally bumbling her way into helping defeat the akuma. That's it. Meanwhile, she saddles her partner Chat Noir with the hard work (and then exploits his subsequent exhaustion to get nearly all the media attention) and hurts people emotionally specifically so they'll become akumas for her to defeat. "Volpina" shows she doesn't care about saving hostages (notable especially because Volpina took care to avoid collateral damage and didn't endanger civilians), and "The Collector" shows that she doesn't want Hawkmoth to be defeated, because it'd mean she'd have to retire. She also stalks Adrien and refuses to acknowledge that he hates her.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • She kicks off the AU by stealing the box containing the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette because she talked back to her.
    • She snaps a picture of Alya looking inside Marinette's locker in "Lady Wifi" and goads the principal into suspending Alya for a whole week purely because she's angry over the very idea that Alya thought Marinette could be Scarlet Lady instead of her.
Chloé: Too bad your friend Marinette isn't Scarlet Lady... or she might have saved you.
    • Like in canon, Chloé demands her father fire Roger Raincomprix in "Rogercop" just because the police officer said she might have misplaced her bracelet rather than immediately (and illegally) arrest Marinette.
    • Rose mentions in "Darkblade" that Chloé threatened to prevent her from doing scrapbooking at her school club if she tried to run for class representative. In addition, Chloé has Sabrina steal Marinette's diary in the same episode to score a cheap shot on Marinette.
    • In "The Gamer," she trips Marinette as Scarlet Lady and then leads the akuma to her and Chat Noir, hoping the akuma will kill Marinette, all because the latter was spending the afternoon with Adrien.
    • She locks up Juleka in the bathroom and then refuses to let the class photo deleted so another can be taken with Juleka because the first photo has her standing next to Adrien—even though it shows Adrien roughly pushing Chloé off of him.
    • "Timebreaker" sees her snatching Alix's pocket watch out of Adrien's hand and then tossing it right onto the racetrack as Alix is passing, simply because Alix knocked her out of the way earlier while pointing out Chloé wasn't even invited to watch the race.
    • In "Volpina," because Lila claimed she was friends with Scarlet Lady, the Ladybug heroine subjects Lila to a Humiliation Conga by calling her a liar (even though Adrien had already told Lila he knows about her lies) and then sending her spinning into a fountain, which results in Lila catching a cold later due to it being the middle of winter. In fact, this is also what Adrien uses to Pull the Thread on that lie: as he puts it, there's no way Scarlet Lady could have saved Lila personally because Scar never tries to save anybody.
    • When she finds out in "Kung Food" that Wang Cheng is Marinette's great uncle, she decides to sabotage the man's entry in the World's Greatest Chef contest.
    • "La Befana" has her cry Crocodile Tears to Mme. Bustier to get her teacher to force the class to invite her to the party they refused to tell her about. When she learns to her disgust that the party is actually to celebrate Marinette's birthday, she attends just so she can ruin it. She later thoroughly enjoys watching La Befana attack everyone at Marinette's party and turn them into coal or fairies and refuses to help. Finally, she points out to La Befana that Chat Noir is escaping with Marinette and ends up leading the akuma to the Eiffel Tower, where Chat Noir hid Marinette (though it's possible the last instance was just her being careless while fleeing the akuma rather than outright spiteful).
    • She's also the one that files the noise complaint in "Captain Hardrock"—but she does it before a single note has been played and only because she was refused entry on the Liberty after trying to invite herself. She even rides there with in Officer Raincomprix's police van so she could ensure everybody knows she's responsible for their concert being shut down.
    • Due to Rose being Innocently Insensitive while asking her to deliver a letter to Prince Ali in "Princess Fragrance," Chloé gleefully rips the letter up in front of her classmate.
    • She calls the fire department to interrupt the bakery lesson at the beginning of "Despair Bear" for little reason other than out of boredom (and because it was Marinette's father who was giving it).
    • She ruins Marinette's gift for Mme. Bustier in "Zombizou" after Marinette mocked her for not having a heart.
    • She slaps Marigold's top out of her hands in "Gorizilla" since she wants to be the only one to rescue Adrien.
    • In "Frozer," she has her father close down Philippe's ice rink just to ruin Adrien and Marinette's first date.
    • She browbeats her father into canceling Clara's music video shoot in "Frightningale" because the video wasn't going to feature Scarlet Lady at all.
    • She demands her father to close down her school because her classmates booed at her self-aggrandizing presentation of herself as an important person, also ordering her father to banish Zoé from Paris because she doesn't know who Scarlet Lady is.
    • Despite resenting the responsibilities of actually being a hero, even after realizing in "Queen Wasp" that she's lost all public support, Chloé still refuses to hand her Miraculous over to the real heroes and later demands that Ladygold (Marinette wielding both the Bee Comb and Ladybug earrings) give the earrings back to her, seemingly for no reason other than she dislikes the idea of anyone other than herself using the Ladybug Miraculous.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She was already an Evil Hero, but "Queen Wasp" becomes this for her as Hawkmoth convinces her to shed any pretense to heroism and go full tilt villain.
  • Fatal Flaw: Chloé Hates the Job, Loves the Limelight and mainly stays on top through a legitimate talent in manipulating the mass media to keep the favor of the public. However, she has a really hard time grasping the fact that the public is composed of individual people. You would think that the lesson would start to sink in after seeing how her usual approach to "friendship" has impacted her civilian life, but apparently not. Every akuma victim that she treats with her usual Lack of Empathy as Scarlet Lady is going to remember that, even if they don't remember the battle (or lack thereof) itself. She also makes a habit of treating every new hero with disdain and insulting nicknames on the grounds that they were chosen by "the sidekicks," never considering that each of those heroes also has an unknown civilian identity who will never trust her again. This tendency caused Alya to go from one of her strongest supporters to most motivated detractors within three episodes.
  • Fearless Fool: Her absolute and unshakable confidence in her victory has caused her to try even riskier things than her canon counterpart:
  • Flat "What": Chloé rails against the people of Paris for hating her after her public identity reveal in "Queen Wasp" and complains about all the "sacrifices" she's made by being Scarlet Lady (like missing out on wearing designer earrings for an entire year). Zoé suggests, "Maybe you should just quit." Chloé just glares at them and says, "What." The author comments, "You've said too much."
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Sabrina calls her out in "Zombizou" for taking out her frustrations over her mother not remembering her birthday on Marinette and Mme. Bustier.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Even more so than canon, thanks to her Adaptational Villainy that has pushed away even her canon friends. As Chloé, she's this due to Fear (thanks to her rich, politically powerful father, she can ruin lives on a whim and will get no punishment for it, much to everyone's frustration) and Proximity (as much as the rest of the students in Mme. Bustier's class want to get away from her, they can't as long as their teacher forces them to invite her to events). As Scarlet Lady, she's this due to Necessity (the ACTUAL heroes need her Lucky Charm and Miraculous Cure more than her) and in-universe Audience Popularity (Scarlet Lady is more popular in-universe than Chat Noir due to being able to sway the crowd), though the latter gradually changes in the real heroes' favor.
  • Friend of Masked Self: Chloé claims to be BFFs with Scarlet Lady—nobody believes her. But in "Despair Bear," the whole class hears Scar make the same claim. Unfortunately for her, this is to the serious detriment of her reputation as a hero.
  • Hated by All:
    • No one in Mme. Bustier's class likes her thanks to her horrible actions, and the few allies she did have in canon (Adrien and Sabrina) have distanced themselves from her out of disgust. The author flat out states that the only reason she is at class events at all is that she gets Mme. Bustier to force the class to include her. Even Luka has Hate at First Sight when he meets her due to having heard about her from Juleka. This is to the point that, when she (as Scarlet Lady) claims Chloé Bourgeois is her best friend, everyone in hearing range feels sick.
    • Zigzagged for her Scarlet Lady identity. She's Paris's beloved heroine... to everyone who hasn't actually met her. When she interacts personally with others as a superheroine, she drives them away just as fast as her civilian identity does. It's later played straight once she publicly declares that she has no issues letting Alya drown since she could just bring her back with the Cure and especially after she outs herself in "Queen Wasp," with the public realizing she had intended to abandon them when she publicly announced her intent to leave Paris for New York just days ago.
  • Hate Sink: Has virtually none of the few sympathetic moments she had in canon, and it's clear that she only cares about her public appearance, both as herself and as Scarlet Lady.
  • Hates the Job, Loves the Limelight: She couldn't care less about fighting akumas and hardly puts in any effort to seriously stop them, but she loves the perks of being adored by Paris for her "heroism."
  • Her Own Worst Enemy: Pretty much every bad thing she suffers from has been a direct consequence of her own actions.
    • Her horrible behavior and taking Sabrina and Adrien for granted costs her every trace of friendship she had with them.
    • Her bullying of her classmates, particularly Marinette, ensures she is Hated by All in her classroom. It has also caused multiple akumas who target her as part of their revenge.
    • Ignoring Alya and then insulting Koki Marina as Scarlet Lady leads to Alya going from her most steadfast supporter to one of her greatest critics.
    • Her Hates the Job, Loves the Limelight attitude towards wielding a Miraculous and love of being the center of attention has led to her having zero allies among those who take up heroism.
    • Her complete lack of a filter, belief that everything and everyone should cater to her, and inability to understand what being a hero really means has ensured that her initial popularity steadily drops as people observe her doing and saying completely unheroic things.
  • Hero with an F in Good: Only takes heroic actions when she believes doing so will directly benefit her or, on rare occasions, when Tikki manages to browbeat her into it. It even becomes one of the major reasons why Adrien immediately figures out Lila is lying about being friends with Scarlet Lady after the Ladybug heroine allegedly saved her—as he points out, Scarlet Lady just doesn't care about saving the life of anybody.
  • Hijacked Destiny: She kicks off the story by stealing the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette and the latter's destiny as a superhero with it.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard:
    • Her copying Marinette's hat for Gabriel's design contest in "Mr. Pigeon" results in her also copying Marinette's name embroidered around the outside, revealing Chloé's plagiarism. This combined with her futile attempts to scapegoat Sabrina, results in her getting disqualified and being banned from all future contests associated with the Gabriel brand.
    • Chloé's obsession with getting Marinette arrested in "Rogercop" results in her willingly getting inside the titular akuma's Flying Car after throwing Marinette in first, thus making both of them hostages. In addition, her choice to not wear a seat belt nearly gets herself killed, and even after surviving, her hair becomes a wild mess.
    • While trapping Juleka in the bathroom, Chloé actively hopes for her to get akumatized so she can "show off" as Scarlet Lady. Reflekta's grudge against her winds up torpedoing Chloé's attempt to stop Marinette from stealing the photographer's SD card.
    • In "Prime Queen," she decides to leave Nadja's show because the interview isn't focusing on her and only jumps in to help Lila because Chat Noir pointed out everything is being broadcast live. Then, when Prime Queen kidnaps Alya and threatens to kill her, Scarlet Lady states she doesn't care about Alya since she can revive her... with the camera focusing on her as she says this, making sure all of Paris knows how she really is when she thinks no one's watching her.
    • She makes public announcement in her civilian identity about leaving Paris for New York in "Malediktator" that comes back to bite her two episodes later in "Queen Wasp" when she publicly outs herself as Scarlet Lady, causing the public to realize she was prepared to abandon them to Hawkmoth's mercy.
  • Hypocrite:
    • To get Alya in trouble for looking inside Marinette's locker, Chloé melodramatically argues about the importance of Marinette's privacy, never mind that the entire AU started with Chloé stealing the Ladybug earrings from Marinette's purse.
    • She attempts to prevent Marinette from spending time practicing for the tournament with Adrien in "The Gamer," justifying it by claiming that Marinette is "going to put her grubby paws all over Adrien." Chloé is a blatant Personal Space Invader who keeps jumping at Adrien and grabbing him without permission.
    • In "Volpina," Scarlet Lady sees Marinette in Adrien's room and angrily asks why she's always where she isn't wanted. This ignores both how Adrien had actually invited Marinette in while Scarlet just barged into his room, as well as how Chloé regularly invites herself to class activities, assuming she didn't get Mme. Bustier to pressure the class to include her.
    • Chloé demands to know who invited Lila to Marinette's birthday when the only reason she got to come was herself because Bustier forced the class to invite her.
    • She claims that Lila claiming to be Scarlet Lady's friend would put her in danger but thinks nothing of doing the same herself in both of her identities.
    • When Officer Raincomprix decides to overlook Kitty Section being slightly over the legal decibel limit in "Captain Hardrock" due to the spirit of the music festival, Chloé complains and tries to get him to shut down the concert again, arguing that the band is still breaking the letter of the law. Chloé regularly breaks the rules while avoiding any consequences by invoking her father's name.
    • When Tikki begs to be taken to a doctor in "Princess Fragrance," Chloé refuses, declaring she won't let the Kwami ruin her attendance. As Tikki points out, Chloé has already ruined her attendance by leaving to show off as Scarlet Lady during akuma battles. Moreover, Chloé later mocks Marinette's tardiness despite showing up late to Mlle. Mendeleiev's class herself.
    • Scarlet Lady mocks Pigella in "Sandboy" for being afraid of being attacked by a bunch of stuffed animals... while ignoring the fact that her own worst nightmare as Chloé was having her possessions turn against and attack her.
    • Chloé mocks Marinette in "Style Queen" for "believing herself a designer"—conveniently ignoring that she's stolen Marinette's designs twice, with one of them being the same hat Marinette brought to the red carpet. She then mocks Marinette for signing the hat, too, forgetting that she copied that part of the design as well, which was how Marinette was able to prove said plagiarism and win Gabriel's design contest.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: She's not entirely wrong that Pigella's nightmare of being attacked by harmless stuffed animals is an Absurd Phobia; Marinette is implied to feel the same about Rose's similar fear of her stuffed animals running away because they hate their owner. Of course, Scarlet is conveniently ignoring how her own nightmare as Chloé was being attacked by her own possessions.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • She laughs at Mylène for using a lullaby to calm herself down, but, as Adrien quickly reminds her, she cuddles with a teddy bear.
    • Ivan tells Chloé off for scaring Mylène and declares that she sucks. Chloé scoffs and asks who thinks that she sucks, to which everybody immediately raises their hands. She responds by asking who asked them.
    • She claims Sabrina, Kim, and Max fell for Marinette's Snipe Hunt ruse when she was the one who dragged the others into it.
    • Chloé complains in "Reflekta" that an akuma had to appear now (when she's trying to prevent Marinette from deleting the class photo) of all times, even though she purposely caused Juleka's akumatization earlier.
    • In "Riposte," when Chloé asks why no one has signed up for her BFF tryouts, her classmates all bring up bad things she did to them in the past, and she asks who asked them.
    • When Kagami shows up to demand a place in the fencing school, Chloé says, "Wow, what a noisy show off," all while Marc and Marinette give her raised eyebrows from her right and left, respectively. She later makes a similar comment about Marinette when the latter performs an impressive flip in "Robostus" to avoid tripping.
    • In "Princess Fragrance," Chloé repeatedly mocks Rose's perfume, saying it smells like rotten fish. She uses the same perfume and even keeps a bottle of it in her locker, as Sabrina immediately reminds her.
    • When Chloé tells Jean in "Despair Bear" that Adrien's just being dramatic by ending their friendship, the butler sarcastically thinks to himself that, "Yes, he's the dramatic one."
    • In "Ikari Gozen," Ryūko deliberately lets herself be captured by the titular akuma as part of Marigold's plan. Chloé, not knowing this, calls Ryūko a loser for getting caught, all while trapped inside Ikari Gozen after having been caught first.
    • Though she was planning on making her father close the ice rink in "Frozer" due to low attendance, she shows up there wearing an ice skater outfit. This might just be due to her being Crazy-Prepared for her plan to ruin Adrien and Marinette's date, though.
  • I Reject Your Reality:
    • Despite how she acquired her Miraculous, Chloé has convinced herself that she was always meant to be The Chosen One, outright ignoring Tikki's attempts to remind her otherwise. She's also incredibly dense when it comes to the matter of Adrien clearly rejecting her advances... or basically everything that doesn't fit with how she wants the world to be (mainly, revolving around HER).
Caption: This answer will be dutifully ignored on the basis that it wasn't the one Chloe wanted to hear.
    • In "Rogercop," Chloé insists that Marinette stole her bracelet despite the complete lack of evidence and even after the latter empties her bag (and, it's implied, her pockets). She's so convinced of it that she drags Marinette to the akuma and tries to get him to arrest her, even getting into Rogercop's car and letting him drive off with her and Marinette, effectively getting the two of them kidnapped in the process.
    • "Reflekta" shows that she's so delusional about the nature of her relationship with Adrien that she obsesses over saving "her photo with [him]"... despite the fact that said photo captures him shoving her off of him. Sabrina pointing this out causes Chloé to snap at her and angrily changing the subject to her friend's "weird behavior."
    • In "Despair Bear," she insists Adrien is just being over-dramatic with breaking off his friendship with her.
    • Upon learning that Adrien apparently wrote a Valentine's Day poem for Marigold, Chloé declares she'll make herself his valentine and proceeds to forge his signature on a perfume ad poster of him. She then tries to show off her poster in front of Adrien's fan club, only for them to immediately recognize the forgery and call her out on her lie. The poster later seemingly has had its bottom signed portion torn off, yet she continues to treat it as if it really were autographed by Adrien, even buying a 24-carat gold frame for her ripped poster and crying over the latter when it gets destroyed.
    • Her self-absorption is such that, when Clara Nightingale reveals to her that the singer's "Heroes of Paris"-themed video won't feature Scarlet Lady, Chloé demands to know why Clara's excluding the Hero of Paris, even though she rarely does more than use Miraculous Cure and Lucky Charm, leaving ninety-plus percent of the work to the other heroes, and a good part of Paris already considers her a Nominal Hero.
    • Even as late as "Malediktator," she still thinks that she can convince Sabrina to return to being her minion and that the latter needs her. This ignores how Sabrina not only ended their friendship months ago, but has made new friends since then (flying in the face of Chloé's claims that she'd be friendless without her) and currently feels nothing but contempt towards Chloé. In fact, Sabrina reacts to her announcing that she's leaving Paris by happily hugging Lila.
Tags: Chloe still in Land of the Delulu when it comes to Sabrina. and probably Adrien.
    • In "Queen Wasp," after publicly revealing herself as Scarlet Lady and getting Shamed by a Mob, Chloé still acts as though she's a great hero and Paris is just being ungrateful for everything she's done for them. After a while, it slowly starts to sink in that she's Hated by All and completely alone, but she simply insists it's because everyone who used to love her has backstabbed her, accusing Zoé of this as well when her sister suggests she just quit if she finds being Scarlet Lady so unrewarding.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: She's prone to this due to her Skewed Priorities. For example, when Marinette calls her a lowlife and tells her she's done taking orders from her and her stupid ponytail, the thing Chloé gets offended by is the ponytail comment.
  • It's All About Me:
    • When it comes to her work as Scarlet Lady, she's far more concerned about looking good than actually dealing with the akumas, then takes all the credit for stopping them afterwards.
    • She's not even interested in ending Hawkmoth's reign since she would "only be celebrated for a few months after" his defeat. She only follows up on Chat Noir's lead on Gabriel Agreste because his defeat would let her "comfort [her] poor, lonely Adrien."
    • In "Evillustrator," she tries to get Chat Noir to do her homework. He promptly refuses, and she throws a massive fit in response, calling him useless despite, y'know, him having just saved her from the titular akuma.
    • During "Vanisher," she tries to crash an interview with Jagged Stone by saying that she's friends with Scarlet Lady, only for Sabrina to call her out for lying (on TV no less). She then breaks off their friendship just because Sabrina "embarrassed her" when Sabrina rightly points out Chloé did that herself with her lies, adding how, by this point, many have met Scarlet Lady and know her true colors, and Lila got assaulted for lying about being friends with Scarlet Lady. Later in the story, after Sabrina is purged of her akuma, does Chloé check to see if she's alright? No! Instead, she chastises her for getting akumatized in the first place and attacking her despite knowing full well akuma victims are Brainwashed and Crazy (and, ironically, the result of her bullying). This is the last straw for Sabrina, who completely denounces their friendship.
    • After Vanisher is defeated, instead of showing any gratitude to Tikki for rescuing her from the Phantom Zone where she could get no attention, Chloé complains, "Tikki! Where've you been?! There's ladybugs everywhere, what did you do?"
    • In "Dark Cupid," she sees Kim with a Valentine's Day present and immediately assumes it's for her. Her ensuing "rejection" hurts Ondine's feelings and gets Kim akumatized.
    • When Tikki tells her in "Animan" that Adrien is free to date whoever he wants, Chloé agrees... as long as it's her. She's also angry that he chose to hang out at the zoo without thinking how it'd affect her despite not even being invited to come along and only going there to spy on him.
Chloé: But why'd he choose the stinky, sweaty, gross zoo? I'll have to talk to him about his lack of consideration for me.
    • In "Princess Fragrance," when Tikki gets sick and tells her as much, Chloé shows absolutely no concern for her wellbeing, caring more about making fun of Rose than worrying about the Kwami who is the source of her power. She also claims that she can't take Tikki to a doctor due to how it'd ruin her attendance record, which rings hollow when, as Tikki points out, she's already ruined her attendance to show off as Scarlet Lady during akuma battles.
    • "Intermission 2" has Chloé believe that the cone André makes for Adrien is a Scarlet Lady cone; the end of the episode reveals that it's meant to be a Marinette cone.
    • In "Anansi," when people start panicking, she doesn't instantly spring into action despite Tikki's urging, thinking it could be something non-akuma related. It's only when the Ferris wheel is sent rolling right towards her father's hotel (and thus her room) that she transforms.
    • In "Ikari Gozen," she decides to sabotage Marinette and Kagami's attempts to win the hunt because she thinks it's unfair Adrien spends all of his time with the two girls and not her—even though Adrien made it clear they weren't friends anymore.
    • In "Prime Queen," she leaves the interview when Nadja tries to bring up the rumors of a "ChatGold" ship—but only because the reporter wasn't centering her attention on her.
    • She ends up delaying Adrien's rescue in "Gorizilla" after she accidentally causes Marigold to lose her top because she wanted to be the one to save him.
    • In "Malediktator," Chloé interrupts a wedding her father's officiating and pushes the couple out before demanding that her father banish Zoé from the city all because Zoé (who only just arrived to Paris) doesn't know who Scarlet Lady is. Then, when André explains he doesn't have the power to do that... she decides to leave Paris without a care for how it will crush her father—or what will happen to Paris if Hawkmoth attacks the city without the Ladybug Heroine there to restore things. Chloé even makes it clear that she'll only return if the people of Paris grovel.
    • When Paris's reaction to her outing herself as Scarlet Lady is a lot less welcoming than she thought, she complains about the sacrifices she's made as Scarlet Lady—such as not wearing designer earrings for months.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Kim ends up in the principal's office with Chloé in "Lady Wifi" as she tries to get Alya in trouble for going through Marinette's locker. He finds himself agreeing with the bully to an extent, chiding, "Not cool, Alya," though he doesn't agree with Chloé getting Alya suspended over it.
    • After Gamer is dealt with, Scarlet Lady cheerfully "compliments" Max on how he only targeted Marinette and left her Adrien alone. This seems to drive home for him just how unfair and quite probably sexist it was to focus his ire exclusively on the girl who beat him.
    • Upon seeing Adrien read the Grimoire, Lila tries to invoke a Commonality Connection with him by declaring she adores superheroes. Chloé quickly intrudes on the conversation and shuts Lila's attempt down, proclaiming to also love superheroes and pointing out that it's a trait most people share.
Tags: #lol seriously lila in this day and age loving superheroes doesn't make you special
    • In "Volpina," she's not wrong when she points out that Hawkmoth could target Lila to get to her if he believes Lila and Scarlet Lady are friends, and she cites this as a reason for why she outed Lila as a liar. However, her retaliation to Lila's Celebrity Lie was incredibly disproportionate, cruel, and clearly only motivated by the personal slight against her rather than any sincere concern about Lila's well-being, and ironically enough, he ends up contacting Lila anyway and akumatizing her because of Chloé's actions.
    • Chloé declares Adrien the winner in his bout against Kagami simply because of her crush on him. However, Kagami had in fact made various illegal moves in the bout, so there was truth to Chloé's call, even if she clearly isn't aware of it. Not only that, Word of God states that Adrien was in fact the winner.
    • Scarlet Lady gives a for once deserved What the Hell, Hero? to Marigold for causing Adrien to get hurt due to not paying attention to their surroundings. She immediately apologizes to Adrien for this.
    • In "Captain Hardrock," Chloé's noise complaint against the concert on the Liberty would have been valid... if she had waited until they actually started to play. Instead, she files it out of spite for not being allowed on board.
    • Upon arriving late to class due to an akuma fight, Marinette claims she had to take her dog to the vet after he ate all her socks. Chloé mocks her for how silly her excuse sounds.
    • Jagged Stone has Fang eat a bunch of Chloé's expensive shoes to ensure she won't be a Karma Houdini for her role in Bob Roth's attempt to plagiarize Kitty Section. Nevertheless, Chloé was still justified in hunting down Jagged Stone and angrily demanding he reimburse her for her shoes, no matter how much of an Asshole Victim she is. Even Jagged seems to concede this to some degree, though he does try to get her to send the bill to Bob Roth instead.
    • Scarlet Lady insists on giving the Snake Miraculous to her crush Adrien in "Desperada." Marigold actually agrees he'd be a good candidate for a temporary hero. There's also the fact that Adrien is actually one of the two original heroes.
    • Though she was obviously just looking for an excuse for her usual laziness, Chloé wasn't entirely wrong when she points out that she wouldn't be able to do much about the two akumas in "Crocoduel" having a midair fight since she can't fly. Marigold and Chat Noir later face the same problem.
    • In "Prime Queen," both Chat Noir and Marigold agree with her that Nadja's special interview was a waste of time due to her excessive focus on the "ChatGold" pairing (though they have different reasons: Chat and Marigold hate that Nadja won't let up on asking them personal questions while Scar just hates that Nadja is focusing on the "sidekicks" instead of her) and follow her when she storms out in a huff.
    • Scarlet Lady flatly states that it's embarrassing that Prime Queen actually fell for the heroes' Schmuck Bait. Marigold completely agrees, calling both the akuma and Hawkmoth idiots.
    • In "Reverser," Chloé gets angry at Marc and Nathaniel when she discovers that they were writing and drawing, respectively, villains based on her both as Scarlet Lady and as her civilian identity. While it was very mean of her to rip Marc's notebook in half, their writing did lead to Nathaniel drawing pictures of her civilian self as a villain and posting them on the school blog without her permission, which the author admits likely counts as bullying.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Though she's initially successful in her attempts at Stealing the Credit for Chat Noir's victories, her worsening behavior resulting from being a superheroine leads to both Sabrina and Adrien ending their friendships with her. Scarlet Lady's veneer of respectability also gradually breaks as Paris starts to see her for who she really is, allowing the real heroes to overshadow her, and "Queen Wasp" has her permanently lose any public support she once had from the public before losing the Ladybug Miraculous, which is reclaimed by Marinette.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: She often gets kicked around and humiliated as a direct result of her cruel and selfish personality.
  • Kick the Dog: Actually more prone to this than in canon, somehow.
    • She railroads the principal into suspending Alya just because Alya thought Scarlet Lady was Marinette (in canon, Chloé at least had the excuse that it was her privacy that was violated).
    • When Roger doesn't immediately (and illegally) obey her demands that Marinette be arrested for theft of Chloé's bracelet and instead suggests that Chloé may have misplaced it, Chloé demands that he be fired for calling her a liar (which he didn't). In addition, she shows an utter Lack of Empathy when Sabrina enters a Heroic BSoD over it, accusing her "best friend" of acitng sketchy and manhandling her as she demands Sabrina hand over her bag to be searched.
    • "The Gamer" has her get so infuriated by Marinette and Adrien practicing for the Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament together that she tries to lead Gamer to Marinette to get her zapped.
    • When Kung Food calls the mind-controlled Mayor Bourgeois useless after the latter gets curbstomped by Chat Noir, Chloé—who was kidnapped and dangled over a swimming pool full of hot soup by the akuma—takes the opportunity to mock her own father and chimes in, "Tell me about it."
    • Like in canon, Chloé goes out of her way to make a big announcement in "Malediktator" about her moving to New York because she thinks her schoolmates will be envious of her and/or upset about her leaving. The same episode also deconstructs her proclivity to this trope: as Adrien exposits, Chloé continually chooses the cruelest option available to her rather than offering any kindness or even neutrally leaving things alone, and this is a major reason why she's Hated by All. Rather than simply underscoring her bullying, Chloé's choice to always lash out and hurt others for no reason is a major contributing factor to the disdain she receives from people.
  • Large Ham: When Scarlet Lady brags in front of Nadja Chamack in "Puppeteer," the author draws a caption pointing to her that reads, "Hamming it up."
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Chloé's attempt to steal Marinette's design, once exposed, earns her stony rebukes from Gabriel, Damocles, and Nathalie and gets her instantly disqualified and banned from all future competitions.
    • Chloé gets this again in "Rogercop." After all the grief she caused Marinette, she is forced by her father to apologize, while Marinette and Chat Noir enjoy it. Her actions also result in Sabrina have a Broken Pedestal relationship with her, which only gets worse over time. Lastly, her actions drive Sabrina and Roger to look into things, resulting in them discovering that the mayor doesn't actually have the power to fire Roger, which eventually leads to further humiliation for Chloé down the road.
    • After Chloé locks Juleka in the bathroom to take her place next to Adrien, he repays Chloé's clinginess by shoving her off him. Later, Juleka's akumatization into Reflekta distracts Chloé long enough for Marinette to both delete the incriminating video of herself and get away with the camera chip containing the class photo she wants to delete.
    • In "Timebreaker," Scarlet Lady decides to not even bother fighting the villain and stay out of reach until the akuma's defeated. When Marinette calls her out on this and threatens to expose her laziness, Scarlet gets distracted, which allows Timebreaker to touch the Ladybug heroine. This also doubles as a bit of karmic backlash for her actions in "The Gamer": after all of her efforts to get Marinette temporarily killed, she gets wiped out by an akuma.
    • Scarlet Lady's Jerkass personality bites her in the rear at the end of "Anansi" when she antagonizes Koki Marina for no reason beyond her own amusement, unaware she's burning bridges with a major media figure who was responsible for her good PR and, up until that point, had been one of her staunchest remaining supporters. The episode's ending shows Alya compiling a dossier about how much of a failure Scarlet Lady is as a heroine.
    • In "Desperada," Adrien takes advantage of the Snake Miraculous's Second Chance to get some retribution for everything Scarlet Lady's put him through, getting her hit by Desperada multiple times. He even tells her that he's Chat Noir just to see her horrified face.
    • Chloé triggers Tomoe's akumatization into Ikari Gozen by gleefully tattling to her about Kagami's disobedience just to get her rival in trouble. Immediately afterwards, Chloé finds herself devoured by the Kaiju-sized villain and once again helpless to "show off" as Scarlet Lady. She also ends up drenched in soapy water when Ikari Gozen later vomits her out.
    • Scarlet Lady's Skewed Priorities bite her hard during "Zombizou," as when it's down to her and Marinette, she attempts to ensure Marinette gets kissed instead of focusing on defeating the zombies. This leads to her getting kissed instead, allowing Marinette to get away.
    • Her Skewed Priorities lead her to slap Marigold's trompo away in "Gorizilla" when the latter is about to stop the akuma because Scarlet Lady wants to be the only one to save Adrien. As a result, not only does the Ladybug heroine quickly get trapped by Gorizilla, but Marigold shows off her skills by using Scarlet's own yo-yo.
    • After screaming into Clara Nightingale's face because the singer's music video won't feature Scarlet Lady and then getting her father to stop the shoot just because of her wounded pride, Chloé becomes Frightningale's first victim.
    • The final link in the chain happens in "Queen Wasp" when she reveals her Secret Identity to all and sundry in an attempt to impress her mother, only to encounter the indifference of Audrey Bourgeois and the hatred of all of Paris, not only because of her terrible, unheroic behavior, but also because just a few days before, she had happily announced her plan to move to New York without caring what would happen to the city if the Ladybug heroine weren't around to stop Hawkmoth. Her subsequent Tantrum Throwing causes her to lose the earrings, putting an end to her Nominal Heroism, as well as get akumatized into Queen Wasp.
  • Late to the Realization: When Kung Food says, "...I'm gonna cook the girl now," Chloé exclaims "Hah?!" It seems she only then becomes aware of the akuma's intention in suspending her over a pool of boiling soup.
  • Leader Wannabe: She styles herself as the lead hero with Chat Noir being her sidekick and later as the leader of Team Miraculous as a whole when Marigold and the temporary heroes join. However, no one really follows her lead (not that she actually bothers to lead, with her just barking orders at best), and it's painfully obvious to everyone but her that Chat Noir and Marigold are the true leaders of the team.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She is occasionally able to make herself useful if she feels the akuma has offended her personally (ex. Dark Cupid).
  • Likes Clark Kent, Hates Superman: Constantly fawns over her dear Adrikins; however, she absolutely can't stand Chat Noir, seeing him as an uppity sidekick and pushing all the actual work onto him.
  • Literal-Minded: During "Zombizou," when Marinette snarks that Chloé would need a heart (i.e., compassion and empathy) to care about others, Chloé responds by saying she does have a heart (i.e., the organ) and could even buy Marinette's.
  • The Load: Rarely pulls her weight in battle; her only real use is unleashing her World-Healing Wave afterwards.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She is routinely denied critical information, primarily because everyone knows she can't be trusted with it.
    • No one has bothered to tell her about the Guardians, the other Miraculous, or really anything except how to purify akumas, since she's proven time and again that she isn't worthy of the responsibility. Adrien is the one who meets Master Fu in her place, with the Guardian later also agreeing to train Marinette after she becomes Marigold. The one exception was when Adrien had a strong lead on the identity of Hawkmoth and reluctantly reasoned, "I guess we should tell Scar."
    • Chat Noir apparently doesn't update Scarlet Lady about his plan with Marinette to disarm Evillustrator, or that the akuma's promise to Marinette means that Chloé is safe for the time being.
    • Fu likewise agrees with this sentiment. When Adrien comes to visit him while the Guardian's developing new power-ups and tells Fu that Scar is asking more questions about Chat Noir's secrets and upset at being left out, Fu shrugs and bluntly states, "Sucks for her."
    • Toward the end of "Syren," Scarlet Lady demands to know where the Bee heroine came from, why her two "sidekicks" are meeting in secret, and where they got the aqua potion. Chat flatly tells her, "The answer is it's none of your business!"
    • In "Anansi," when new heroine Koki Marina asks how Marigold knows where to get the Miraculous but Scarlet Lady doesn't, the former blatantly states Scarlet Lady can't be trusted with anything important.
  • Loving a Shadow: "Style Queen" all but states her crush on Adrien boils down to this. After briefly lamenting his transformation into a statue, she quickly muses that she might actually prefer him this way.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: She effectively "wins" in "Animan," having prevented Adrien from going off with Marinette on a date. However, it really amounts to nothing, since their date would have been interrupted by the akuma attack anyway, and it's not going to deter Adrien from pursuing Marinette.
  • Moral Myopia:
    • Chloé is an Entitled Bitch who is all about being All Take and No Give, as evidenced by how she takes Sabrina completely for granted. She is also incredibly offended by her classmates giving her A Taste Of Her Own Medicine when they exploit her "generous" bribes in the class representative race without returning the favor by voting for her.
    • Despite her leaving most of the work to the other heroes and later Stealing the Credit, she's furious when she saves Théo in "Guitar Villain," only for him thank Chat Noir for it.
  • Morning Routine: Chloé apparently wakes up late on the morning of the start of "Vanisher" and complains to herself that her butler should have woken her up earlier. The reason for this becomes clear later: Vanisher has made her invisible, intangible, and inaudible to others.

    N-Y
  • Never My Fault:
    • When Tikki tries to call Chloé out on her Disproportionate Retribution against Alya in "Lady Wifi," Chloé simply insists the other girl brought it on herself (even though Alya simply suspected Marinette was Scarlet Lady instead of Chloé and didn't even do anything to Chloé).
    • Scarlet Lady dismisses the notion that she should be blamed for Théo's akumatization, declaring that he's just Not Good with Rejection.
    • When Chloé is found to have copied Marinette's design for the hat contest, she attempts to throw Sabrina under the bus by insisting it was all her idea. She does this again when the class discovers Sabrina's hand caught in Marinette's diary trap in "Darkblade."
    • Chloé blames Chat Noir and Rogercop when she plummets towards the ground after falling out of the akuma's Flying Car when one of the rear doors opens during Chat Noir's attempted rescue. However, she was the one who got herself and Marinette kidnapped in the first place when she willingly got inside the akuma's car after throwing Marinette in, all because she was hellbent on getting Marinette arrested for theft despite lacking any proof. Moreover, Chloé didn't bother putting on her seat belt once the car took flight, something Marinette even pointed out to her just moments earlier.
    • After tossing away Alix's watch and letting it shatter, Chloé sneers that it never would've happened if Alix hadn't trusted "the blogger" or "Clumsinette" to take care of it. Alya and Adrien retort that she was the one who took it and threw it to the ground, but Alix blames everyone involved.
    • Upon learning Adrien's been grounded for losing his father's book, Chloé declares it's Lila's fault for stealing it. Chloé had a perfect opportunity to retrieve the book after Lila had thrown it away but refused because she was disgusted that it had been fished out of the trash and decided to get revenge on Lila instead.
    • Chloé is responsible for Wang Cheng's akumatization in "Kung Food," but when he's about to turn her into a soup ingredient, she claims she did nothing to deserve it.
    • When Tikki finally finds Chloé after the latter has been tied up by Kung Food's minions and dangled over boiling soup, Chloé angrily asks where the Kwami's been, even though she was the one who left her purse in the kitchen with Tikki inside.
    • She insists that she never messes up and puts all the blame on Sabrina for getting akumatized in "Vanisher," but by then, Sabrina has decided they are no longer friends. Later, Chloé disclaims responsibility for not being able to help as Scarlet Lady when she gets tied up in her civilian identity or kidnapped by akumas, which would probably hold more water if she had actually pulled her weight when she did show up and hadn't been behind the akumatizations of a lot of the villains who threatened her. She just dismisses it as the akumas being jealous.
Tikki: Pretty sure jealousy's not the problem.
    • In "Dark Cupid," Chloé claims that Kim has no reason to have anything against her, completely forgetting that she, at least to her knowledge, coldly rejected him earliernote .
    • Chloé triggers her father's akumatization in "Malediktator" by declaring she'll leave Paris over his inability to close down the school and banish Zoé over the latter not knowing who Scarlet Lady is. Later, as Scarlet Lady, she claims her father's akumatization was Zoé's fault for letting their classmates gang up on her and Scarlet Lady.
    • An angry mob gathers to jeer at her in "Queen Wasp" after she publicly outs herself, forcing her to flee. Chloé claims none of this is her fault—even when it very most clearly is. She even sees the events just before her akumatization as Paris being ungrateful for everything she's done for the city and stabbing her in the back.
  • The Nicknamer: Scarlet Lady tends to come up with insulting nicknames for heroes on her team, calling Chat Noir names like "Alley Cat." She comes up with even more for her rival Marigold: "Bumbling Bee," "Foolsgold," and "Marimold" are appear in one panel. The author comments, "Those are some... creative nicknames you've come up with."
  • Nominal Hero: Ultimately, she's only in this for the fame and glory, and the only "heroic" thing she does on a regular basis is use her World-Healing Wave after akuma fights. Scarlet Lady has selfish intentions, but at least in pursuing her self-centered goals, she's providing a service to others. She's not altruistic, but she does (technically) save the day and save money on property damage.
  • No Poker Face: Chat Noir lampshades this trait of Scarlet Lady's when he can easily tell what she's thinking about as she decides what to do about his lead on the identity of Hawkmoth in "The Collector."
  • Not Brainwashed: While in "Queen Wasp", Chloé was as Brainwashed and Crazy as any other Akuma, in "Catalyst", she accepts Scarlet Moth's Akuma with such eagerness that even he's surprised.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: She genuinely does not understand that Adrien has come to utterly loathe her in both of her identities, simply treating it as him being "dramatic" or just outright ignoring it.
  • Oblivious to Her Own Description:
    • She attempts to crash on Marinette and Adrien's gaming date as they prepare for the Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament, claiming that Marinette is "going to put her grubby paws all over Adrien." Chloé herself is a Personal Space Invader who keeps grabbing Adrien without permission.
    • She asks Marinette why she's always in places where she's not wanted (in this case, Adrien's room) in "Volpina"... not realizing that Marinette is the only person Adrien actually wants in the room (because she gave him his dad's book back after he invited her over) while Scar and Volpina just barged in.
    • She claims Kagami is a noisy show-off when the latter arrives to try out for the fencing team. Marinette and Marc's side-eyes makes it obvious what they're thinking. She later makes a similar comment about Marinette in "Robostus" when the latter avoids tripping by performing an impressive flip.
  • Offended by an Inferior's Success: Chloé frequently attempts to sabotage Marinette and has tried to steal the latter's work more than once, including getting involved with Bob Roth and XY's attempt to rip off Kitty Section. She also insists that Marinette and the members of Kitty Section (aside from Luka) are all "talentless" and does not appreciate being reminded that she's considered their work good enough to steal.
  • Oh, Crap!: She is visibly horrified when she realizes Volpina (seemingly) has her at missile point and her much-abused partner has just bailed on her.
  • Out of Focus: There's not much focus on Chloé or Scarlet Lady after "Vanisher," save for the usual snippets when she's somewhat involved in episodes. According to the author, this is intentional.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: She's terrible at keeping her secret identity; the only reason that she still has one is that the people who know her as Scarlet Lady either have no interest in spending enough time with her to learn what it is or are grudgingly protecting her so Hawkmoth doesn't find out. As Chloé, nobody listens to her and just thinks that she's lying.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • She was seemingly sincere when she offered Penny advice on self-care. However, her suggestion was buying a diamond-studded phone case.
    • The day after Zombizou is defeated, Chloé gets Mme. Bustier a belated birthday present to thank her teacher for always favoring her so much at the expense of the rest of the class.
    • Though it doesn't last, Chloé takes her half-sister Zoé under her wing (in her own way) after hearing the latter doesn't know who Marigold is and even tells the class to treat Zoé with respect. Later, after Zoé butters her half-sister up a little with a few compliments about Scarlet Lady, Chloé agrees to forgive Zoé for her "transgression" of not knowing who Scarlet Lady is and offers to teach her about the Ladybug superheroine as well so she won't make the same faux pas.
    • She gets her mother a gift on the day of Gabriel's fashion show and is thrilled when Audrey accepts it (even if Zoé had to trick their mother into accepting it). She then tries to help her mother get a seat in the first row, though her attempts don't really accomplish anything and arguably just makes her family look worse in the eyes of the public. Additionally, she seems genuinely concerned when her mother gets akumatized.
  • Playing the Victim Card:
    • When Marinette stands up to her following the second defeat of Stoneheart, Chloé tries to convince Adrien that her long-time victim is actually bullying her instead. He doesn't fall for it.
    • She acts like her classmates are bullying and excluding her at the start of "La Befana" to dupe Mme. Bustier into forcing them to invite her to the party they're throwing, which turns out to be Marinette's birthday party.
  • The Poorly Chosen One: Though she wasn't really chosen at all, she ends up proving why she's such a poor fit to be a superhero.
  • The Power of Apathy:
  • Pragmatic Villainy: She's usually only motivated to take action against akumas if she stands to personally benefit:
    • She declares that Stormy Weather must be stopped for ruining her "date" with Adrien.
    • It's not until she notices Adrien and Marinette slow-dancing at the Bubbler's party that she decides to fight the akuma.
    • Chloé at first refuses to fight the titular akuma in "Mr. Pigeon" due to being disgusted by all his namesake birds. So how does Tikki get her to change her mind?
Tikki: [snarking] Well, I guess we'll leave the akuma—and the after interview—to Chat Noir.
Chloé: [dead serious] The hell we are.
    • Scarlet Lady doesn't want Hawkmoth gone, knowing she'll be forgotten if he and his akumas are no longer around to wreak havoc. But when told that Gabriel Agreste might be Hawkmoth, she decides to help take him down so that she can comfort Adrien over it afterwards.
    • Chloé thoroughly enjoys watching La Befana attack everyone at Marinette's party and turn them into coal or angels. She only transforms into Scarlet Lady to defeat the akuma after discovering that her driver has also been turned into coal, meaning she now doesn't have a ride home.
    • She doesn't need much prompting to transform into Scarlet Lady in "Puppeteer" once Tikki points out that Alya has seemingly been akumatized into Lady Wifi again and just snuck into Marinette's room. However, this is only because she wrongly thinks that Lady Wifi is trying to prove Marinette is Scarlet Lady again, and the mere idea of someone else being the Ladybug heroine is a huge Berserk Button for Chloé.
    • Chloé reluctantly agrees to transform in "Desperada" because she needs to "avenge [her] shoes" (which Fang had eaten in the previous episode) and the titular akuma had just zapped Jagged Stone before Chloé could get him to reimburse her for them.
    • Similar to Tikki in "Mr. Pigeon," Chat Noir gets Scarlet Lady to jump into action in "Prime Queen" by appealing to her love of attention:
Prime Queen: Will you dare to go through the screen to save your dear little Lila?
Scarlet Lady: As if I'd get my nails dirty for the superliar.
Chat Noir: It's being broadcasted live.
Scarlet Lady: Out of my way!
    • Scarlet Lady actually sticks close to the class and offers helpful advice during Zombizou's attack. However, it's only because she wants a front row seat for when the akuma finally gets to Marinette.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Seeing Adrien get too close with Marinette will often do this to her.
    • She explodes in "Queen Wasp" when her mother not only praises Marinette's work but also invites Marinette to come to New York with her, something she's never done for Chloé.
    • After tranforming in public in "Queen Wasp," only to be jeered at by the people of Paris, she hits this after Zoé suggests that she just drop being a hero if she's that sick of fighting, with Chloé choosing to interpret this as Zoé betraying her.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: She's just as rich as in canon but has an even poorer sense of things. In "The Collector," she thinks that Adrien being grounded means that he's never coming back to school even though everyone else can tell that he'll just be grounded for the break (granted, it's also hinted she doesn't know what being grounded means because it's never happened to her before). She also recommends buying a diamond-studded cellphone case as a form of self-care for Penny.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons:
    • When she sees the news broadcast in "Copycat" of Chat Noir having apparently turned thief and kidnapper, she declares that her partner "must've succumbed to his jealousy of [her]." Copycat, who is the actual thief and kidnapper, had in fact been akumatized due to jealousy, though towards Chat Noir due to mistakenly thinking the two superheroes are a couple.
    • She doesn't react to Volpina threatening to collapse a building or holding Adrien hostage. While she made the right call in both cases (the missiles and "Adrien" were both illusions, with the real Adrien having already transformed into Chat Noir), she didn't do it because she saw through Volpina's tricks but because she simply didn't care that people might die (and in the latter case, she actually thought Adrien would see it as a romantic moment).
    • Per Word of God, Chloé's biased call in favor of Adrien in "Riposte" turned out to have been correct. Even In-Universe, Marinette points out that Kagami had flagrantly broken the rules, meaning the latter didn't deserve to win. Chloé wasn't aware of any of this, though, and her call was based on nothing other than her crush on Adrien.
    • Scarlet Lady, Chat Noir, and Marigold leave the interview with Nadja mid-show. While the latter two are leaving because Nadja's questions are turning inappropriate and delving into personal matters, Scarlet Lady only leaves because the interview isn't centered on her.
    • Chloé declares in "Queen Wasp" that the public was never on her side since they've "backstabbed" and now hate her after she publicly outed herself. She's right in the sense that the public never supported her for who she really is, only the heroine they initially thought she was.
    • In the same episode, after Zoé suggests she quit being Scarlet Lady, Chloé declares that her sister is "just another goodie two shoes" who was only pretending to be on her side and is now betraying her. Zoé is indeed much nicer that Chloé and never fully shared the latter's values, and they have in fact tried to influence Chloé by buttering her up. However, they truly do care about Chloé and only suggested that Chloé drop her superhero gig because they genuinely thought it was best for Chloé and everyone else.
  • Saying Too Much: She occasionally lets out blatant hints to her identity, though fortunately for her, everyone else either fails to connect the dots or is too busy to notice. In one instance, Scarlet Lady rants about how her day's been going to Chat Noir in "Dark Cupid" after a string of bad luck befalls her in her civilian identity, but he's too busy fighting a brainwashed Marigold to really pay attention to what she's saying.
  • Screening the Call: Unintentionally screens Marinette's call to adventure by stealing the Ladybug earrings from her purse.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Chloé loves invoking her father's status as Mayor of Paris to get her way. The success rate is mixed, though.
    • Like in the show, Chloé namedrops her father in "Lady Wifi" to pressure Principal Damocles into severely punishing Alya for a minor infraction. However, it's even more exaggerated than the canon example due to how Alya actually looked inside Marinette's locker in the comic, explained she and Marinette exchanged locker combinations, and is suspended before the school has even notified Marinette. Ultimately subverted when Alya's mother calls the school to complain about how the school didn't even contact her about her daughter's suspension, which leads to the punishment being lifted.
    • Deconstructed when Chloé makes her father fire Roger for refusing to break the law at her demand. It shocks Roger and Sabrina so much that they look into things and discover that the mayor never actually had the power to do that in the first place. The next time Chloé tries the same tactic, Roger coolly informs her how empty her threat is.
    • She only has to hold up her phone in "Despair Bear" and say, "A-hem!" to get Principal Damocles to exempt her from the school-wide punishment everyone else receives. This trope also gets deconstructed later in the episode when Scarlet Lady announces that Chloé is her best friend: rather than salvage Chloé's reputation, it horrifies Scarlet Lady's fans that their idol is close with a girl they all despise.
    • "Frozer" has Chloé convince her father to shut down the ice rink and replace it with a gym, all so she can ruin Marinette and Adrien's first date. Mayor Bourgeois ultimately backs off after Adrien endorses the rink, knowing how much shutting the rink down will infuriate the model's fans, though by then, Chloé no longer cares.
    • Chloé railroads her father into abusing his power to shut down Clara Nightingale's music video shoot. However, André is much less keen about doing so this time around and only complies when she threatens to call Audrey if he doesn't do what she demands (and even then, it's more because he fears how Chloé will react once Audrey makes it clear she doesn't care about whatever Chloé's going through). Moreover, Clara gets to film her music video in the end anyway due to Sabrina recognizing André's lie about the singer missing a permit.
  • Self-Proclaimed Love Interest: Taken to I Reject Your Reality levels regarding her crush on Adrien, particularly as he grows increasingly fed up with her selfish behavior. Even when he outright tells he that they aren't friends anymore, she simply convinces herself that he's just being dramatic.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Prone to this, such as convincing herself that the earrings were meant for her all along.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: It seems that one person at the school will not put up with Chloé's nonsense: Armand D'Argencourt. He covers her "BFF tryouts" poster with his own for fencing school tryouts in "Riposte" and gets in her face about it, reminding her, "The school bulletin is for school news only, Mme. Bourgeois." It stands to reason that he is not intimidated by her connections—he ran for mayor against her father and lost because of dirty tricks. D'Argencourt also demands that Chloé leave when she barges into his fencing tryouts without permission.
  • Skewed Priorities: Cares more about her personal interests than little things like protecting Paris:
    • Chloé's eager to transform and deal with Stormy Weather... because the akuma interrupted her "date" with Adrien.
    • When she learns that the Bubbler just captured all the adults in Paris and is forcing her class to attend Adrien's birthday party on threat of joining them, she's thrilled by the opportunity to cozy up to Adrien. She's only motivated to fight the akuma when he allows a slow dance between Adrien and Marinette.
    • "Copycat" opens with her prepping for the big statue unveiling by putting on makeup... including lots of eyeshadow. Tikki points out that she'll be wearing a mask, meaning that nobody's going to be able to see her handiwork. (Chloé, naturally, completely ignores her.)
    • Rather than capture or help Chat Noir in "Copycat" when the police go after him, Scarlet Lady instead takes some time laughing at his misfortune.
    • "Mr. Pigeon" has a twofold example. Chloé initially refuses to transform and fight the akuma due to being disgusted by all the pigeons and what they might do to her hair. She quickly changes her tune, however, once Tikki reminds her that Chat Noir will end up doing the after-interview all by himself if she doesn't act.
    • "The Pharaoh" sees Chloé blowing off the notion of studying for her upcoming midterm since she expects Sabrina to do all the work for her. Tikki's attempt to convince her to take Sabrina on a nice outing to the museum leads instead to Chloé heading there alone under the mistaken impression that there's a dedicated Ladybug exhibit, ditching Sabrina in the process.
    • Happens a lot in "Rogercop":
      • Faced with her "best friend" blue-screening after her wild accusations got Sabrina's father fired, Chloé doesn't bat a lash before grabbing Sabrina by the arm and demanding she surrender her bag to be searched.
      • Chloé is so singularly focused upon getting Marinette punished for supposedly stealing her bracelet (despite the overwhelming lack of evidence) that when Rogercop shows up looking to arrest Mayor André for abusing his powers, she drags Marinette after the akuma and tries to get him to arrest her. She even gets into Rogercop's car and lets him drive off with her and Marinette, getting herself and Marinette kidnapped in the process. Moreover, she does this despite how Roger's refusal to act without evidence led to his firing and akumatization in the first place.
      • After Rogercop is defeated, Chloé's more worried about her bag and her bracelet than her father (despite having just seen how badly he had taken her Disney Death).
    • She was completely unwilling to help take Darkblade down... until he called her a "peasant."
    • In "The Gamer," Chloé really doesn't gives a damn about her class being part of a game competition or even that Adrien has been selected to be one of the representatives... until she finds out that Marinette was the other student selected. That puts her on a very serious warpath.
    • Used for a Mood Whiplash moment in "Timebreaker." When Marinette reveals that she's recording the heroine slacking off, Scarlet Lady prioritizes yelling at her for "threatening the hero of Paris" over actually dealing with the akuma. As a direct result, Scarlet gets tagged in the back.
    • Chloé is more concerned about her hair being ruined by the soup she's suspended over in "Kung Food" than she is about being boiled alive if she were to fall into it.
    • Chloé makes faces at Chat Noir (that he can't see because she's invisible) in "Vanisher" when the latter says he'll double his efforts in Scarlet Lady's absence despite the fact that his efforts are (as far as she knows) her only hope of rescue from the akuma.
    • When confronting Chat Noir after the defeat of Riposte, she ignores him pointing out that she might de-transform in front of security cameras... but runs away horrified when he comments that said cameras are also seeing her with messy hair.
    • She's unconcerned about Captain Hardrock endangering her father but panics when Tikki reminds her that XY is also at risk.
    • When Chat Noir tells Nadja that he's become happier because Marigold is a reliable partner (blatantly implying that the Ladybug heroine's worthless), Scar's angrier that Chat and Marigold did an interview without her.
    • In a bonus panel for "Troublemaker," she devotes more of her attention on some clothes on sale and popsicles that look like her superhero identity than on the akuma fight at the bakery.
    • In "Ikari Gozen," Chloé gets imprisoned inside the villain's car body and complains about the lack of Bluetooth in there, while Tikki thinks to herself how transforming would reveal Scarlet Lady's secret identity.
    • In "Zombizou," her main goal is to go with the students' group so she can see or cause Marinette to be kissed by the zombies rather than to stop the akuma. This gets her kissed instead.
    • After Marigold defeats Zombizou and saves the day with Bee Balm, the first thing Scarlet Lady complains about is that Marigold has a new look.
    • She delays Adrien's rescue in "Gorizilla" when she causes Marigold to lose her top (the heroine's weapon), all because she wants to be the only one to save him.
    • In "Queen Wasp," she complains about how the people of Paris don't understand the great sacrifices she made to be Scarlet Lady—such as not wearing designer earrings for a year.
  • The Sociopath: Gaining the Ladybug Miraculous causes her to degenerate from a simple Jerkass to a full-blown sociopath. In addition to her already-existing poor impulse control and narcissism, she has lost any shred of empathy she once had, will gleefully lie in order to maintain her image, and only sees people as servants (Sabrina), lust objects (Adrien, Luka, Prince Ali, and XY), or enemies (Marinette, Lila, Chat Noir, etc.).
  • Spanner in the Works:
    • The comic starts off with Master Fu's plan to make Marinette the Ladybug hero going awry due to Chloé stealing the Ladybug earrings from Marinette's purse before the latter even noticed they were in there.
    • She's on the receiving end of this trope, too:
      • Chloé's attempt to steal Marinette's hat design for the derby hat contest fails because Marinette had hidden her name in the hat's embroidery. Downplayed, as Marinette points out that even ignoring how her name was on both hats, she still had the original sketches while Chloé obviously didn't.
      • Marinette putting her diary in a booby-trapped box throws a spanner into Chloé's plans to blackmail Marinette into dropping out of the class representative race. When Sabrina tries to steal Marinette's diary, the box it is in unexpectedly clamps onto the former's wrist. Not only does this reveal Chloé's attempted theft to the entire class, but Sabrina ends up tearfully begging Marinette to take the box off and lets her have the diary back as well, depriving Chloé of any potential blackmail.
    • In "Dark Cupid," Kim's plan to ask Ondine to be his girlfriend would've gone off without a hitch if Chloé hadn't just happened to cross the bridge while Kim was waiting for Ondine there. Wrongly assuming that Kim's gift was for herself, Chloé unwittingly causes a misunderstanding when Ondine arrives moments later, which leads to Kim's akumatization.
    • Marinette's plan to get Marc to team up with Nathaniel goes pear-shaped when Chloé by chance overhears Alix and Nathaniel discussing the drawings he posted on the school blog and then discovers the drawings mock both her civilian and superhero identities. Chloé subsequently crashes their meeting and rips up Marc's journal, triggering their akumatization.
    • After publicly outing herself in "Queen Wasp" and subsequently getting Shamed by a Mob, Chloé takes off the earrings and puts them in a box due frustration over being hated by the public. She then ends up throwing the box at Zoé when she wrongly believes her sister has betrayed her before shutting Zoé out of her room, unwittingly foiling Hawkmoth's plan to akumatize a Miraculous wielder.
  • Stalker with a Crush: To Adrien, as Scarlet Lady—she tends to forget that the dual identity means that she supposedly doesn't know Adrien all that well and it's creepy for her to stick around him so much. He gradually grows to see Chloé as this, too, particularly after he ends their friendship.
  • Stealing the Credit: How Chloé usually acts when it comes down to making any achievement:
    • She has been making Sabrina do her homework and passing it off as her own for years. Mme. Bustier (and, implicitly, her other teachers) has been aware of this for years yet refuses to do anything about it.
    • As Scarlet Lady, she has Chat Noir do all the work, only to then take advantage of him having to leave or being tired to claim that she was the one that stopped the akuma.
    • In "Mr. Pigeon," not only does she steal Marinette's hat design, she doesn't even bother to do any of the job involved in crafting it, paying someone to make everything for her.
    • In "Silencer," she acts as XY's designer when all she does is blatantly copy Marinette's designs for Kitty Section.
  • Supporting Protagonist: Despite being the titular character, the story focuses much more on Marinette and Adrien than on her, and she could be considered the tritagonist at best.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She and Chat Noir hate each other and only just barely work together to earn glory (on her side) or oppose Hawkmoth (on his side).
  • Tempting Fate: She gets into a fight with Sabrina over a TV interview she was blatantly lying on during a flashback in "Vanisher"; it ends with her breaking off her friendship with Sabrina and declaring, "I don't want to see you. In fact, you should just disappear." One guess as to what akuma power Sabrina gained and what she did with it.
  • Terrified of Germs: More disgusted than terrified, in her case:
    • She refuses to touch a book Tikki says is important simply because it had been in a trash can.
    • Has multiple times expressed disgust with the Seine's water.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: A variant. She was already an Evil Hero, but getting called out for it by all of Paris eventually convinces her to drop any semblance of heroism and accept akumatization.
  • Third Wheel: She shows up at the zoo to interrupt a date between Adrien and Marinette. She claims it was just a coincidence, but Adrien can tell she was stalking him.
  • Too Dumb to Fool: When Tikki suggests that she make someone else a temporary Ladybug hero so she can go on a trip to New York, Chloé refuses—not because she realized that Tikki was trying to trick her into giving up the earrings permanently (because nobody would want to give the earrings back to Scarlet Lady), but because that would mean that someone else getting the glory of being Ladybug for the duration of the trip, and Chloé can't stand letting anyone in her spotlight.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • When she sees Pixelator entering the hotel, she completely fails to recognize that he's an obvious akuma, easily falls for his Blatant Lies, and lets him take a picture of her.
    • Her tendency to keep bullying people in an environment like Miraculous Paris where negative emotions can attract supervillain-creating akumas is this; she keeps giving akumas motives to come after her.
    • In "Despair Bear," she openly declares Chloé to be her best friend in her Scarlet Lady persona. Not only does this horrify many of her fans who utterly hate Chloé, but it also potentially paints a giant target on Chloé's back for Hawkmoth to exploit... just like she claimed would happen to Lila if she claimed the same thing.
    • It's "Queen Wasp" where she takes the crown, though, as she reveals she's Scarlet Lady to all of Paris just to show off to her mother!
  • Token Evil Teammate: While the other heroes are all kindhearted individuals, she's a sadistic and self-serving bully who only battles evil for the glory and is more than willing to let the villain's reign continue if she gets to remain in the spotlight.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: While it's a stretch to call her "smart" at any point, in earlier episodes, she shows a genuine talent at playing to the media and maintaining her good publicity. As the series progresses, however, she starts to devolve, becoming more prone to indulging her own laziness at the expense of her reputation and openly antagonizing individuals who have the clout to hurt her reputation.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Over the course of the comic, she degenerates from a simple schoolyard bully into a Sociopathic Villain Protagonist willing to straight-up kill Marinette to get her away from Adrien, and while she initially had a few sparing moments of empathy, she quickly loses them as she sinks further into cruelty and delusion.
  • Tritagonist: She falls to the role of tertiary main character after "Vanisher" and doesn't do much to drive episode plots anymore, which focus more on Adrien and Marinette, but she's still necessary to purify akumas and remains an important fixture in the overarching story.
  • Ungrateful Bitch:
    • She never thanks anyone that does anything for her, instead taking said help for granted and getting angry if it is not given. Namely, the best thing she ever does for Sabrina is to offer to loan her a beret for doing her share of work in a group physics project, and she never does anything for Alya as Scarlet Lady despite Alya being instrumental in making Scarlet Lady popular in the first place.
    • She also accuses the people of Paris of being this when they start calling her out after realizing her true nature, furious that they prefer Marigold over her despite all the alleged sacrifices she's made as Scarlet Lady (namely not wearing designer earrings for a year).
  • The Unmasking: She finally unmasks herself to all of Paris in "Queen Wasp" in a desperate (and ultimately futile) attempt to earn her mother's respect.
  • Unwitting Pawn: She is unknowingly Hawkmoth's greatest asset due to how her actions lead to a majority of the akuma attacks. This is best exemplified in "Despair Bear" when she fires her butler, with Hawkmoth remarking that he knew that she wouldn't let him down.
  • Villain Protagonist: Due to Chat Noir's No-Respect Guy status and Marinette having Missed the Call, Scarlet Lady is essentially the "protagonist" of the story. However, she wastes little time devolving from a Nominal Heroine into a full-blown sociopath, especially in "Volpina."
  • Villain with Good Publicity: About one of the only things Scarlet Lady is really good at is manipulating the media and playing to the public, convincing them that she's a true heroine saddled with a destructive partner.
    • "Puppeteer" has she tells Nadia that she has sent her "sidekicks" for reinforcements to deal with the reporter's akumatized daughter, taking credit for an idea that was actually Chat Noir's.
    • This is actually examined at the beginning of "Despair Bear" when Marinette becomes set on retaking the earrings; Master Fu notes that Scarlet Lady's popularity is what allows the heroes to fight akumas unimpeded and that public infighting could damage their credibility. Her image begins to crack in the same episode when people hear Scarlet Lady claim that Chloé is her best friend and witness the heroine pawning off the fight to Chat Noir and Marigold.
    • By the time of "Frightningale," pretty much all of Paris has seen her true colors and revised their opinion of her accordingly.
  • Villainous Breakdown:
    • Adrien straight up telling her in "Despair Bear" that he doesn't consider her a friend anymore shocks her beyond anything. By the end of the episode, though, she convinces herself that they're still friends because he was being overdramatic by saying they aren't.
    • "Queen Wasp" is an episode-long breakdown, beginning with her mother inviting Marinette to New York (which Audrey has never done for Chloé), which is followed by Chloé revealing her Secret Identity in an attempt to impress her mother, only to learn that all of Paris despises her. This, in turn, leads to her throwing a tantrum that ends with her losing the Ladybug earrings for good and being akumatized.
  • We Used to Be Friends:
    • After the events of "Vanisher," her selfish actions permanently destroy her "friendship" with Sabrina. True to form, Chloé's less concerned with the loss of their relationship than she is her ability to pawn her responsibilities off on her.
    • Her fire department stunt in "Despair Bear" is the last straw for Adrien, who renounces their friendship on the spot, not that Chloé is willing to acknowledge it.
  • What You Are in the Dark: This is what kills her Villain with Good Publicity status in "Prime Queen": she says that the heroes should let Alya drown since she could just bring her back with the Miraculous Cure, not understanding or caring why Chat Noir and Marigold are objecting her being willing to let an innocent teenager drown and either forgetting or being unaware of the fact that the fight with the akuma is being broadcast live to all of Paris.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Ironically, despite being a bug-themed heroine, she utterly detests spiders. When she arrives to battle Anansi, she has a Freak Out over Anansi being spider-based, quickly makes a Lucky Charm, and then skedaddles, claiming she needs to recharge. Marigold is dubious she'll come back, but she does show up again later.
Marigold: Okay, I'll run a distraction. Chat Noir will go for the hostage, and Scarlet Lady-
Scarlet: [handing her a Lucky Charm while her power limit warning is beeping] Welp, here you go Marimo- Uh, Marigold. Good luck with that, I gotta, you know, recharge. And stuff.
Marigold: And then you'll come back, right?
Scarlet: Oh, I can't hear you, gotta turn back, byeeeee!
Marigold: [angrily] And then you'll come back, RIGHT!?
  • Wild Take: Downplayed compared to most cartoons, but her hair frequently stands up in surprise or shock, like when she turns around expecting to take Adrien away from Riposte, only to see that Marigold has already taken him away herself.
  • With Friends Like These...: Despite claiming to be Sabrina's friend, she treats her like a slave, abuses her, and even goes as far as to try to get her father fired over a petty slight. Unlike in canon, her rapidly escalating behavior slowly but surely drives a wedge between the two, and Sabrina's only really hanging with her out of habit by the time of "Evillustrator" rolls around, and their friendship completely falls apart by the next episode.
  • Womanchild: She constantly acts like a spoiled five-year-old, never learns from her mistakes, and throws tantrums when she doesn't get her way. The author's notes compare her emotional maturity to Puppeteer, a grade-schooler driven insane by dark magic.
  • Wrong Assumption: Chloé regularly acts as if her father's an Ultimate Authority Mayor and has difficulty processing that there are limits to his mayoral powers.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • She's convinced that she's The Chosen One destined to wield the Ladybug Miraculous. When Tikki tries to remind her that she actually stole the earrings from Marinette, Chloé completely tunes the Kwami out.
    • Likewise, Chloé deludes herself into thinking she's the Hero of Paris and that Chat Noir and the others are just her Bumbling Sidekicks. The truth, of course, is that they're the ones who do all the work. She just steals the credit while acting as The Load most of the times, assuming she isn't The Millstone.
    • She thinks that she and Adrien are soulmates and the setup for a Childhood Friend Romance, even as Adrien makes it increasingly clear that he's fed up with her selfish, bullying behavior. Even Adrien outright ending their friendship isn't enough to convince her otherwise.
    • She also wholeheartedly believes she's the protagonist of a reverse harem, citing "Rule 72" of the Bourgeoises: "all guys have to be crazy about you," completely oblivious to how all the guys she's shown interest in (Adrien, Luka, and XY) view her as an Abhorrent Admirer.
  • Yandere: She has all of her canon clingy behavior towards Adrien and then some, up to trying to help an akuma (temporarily) kill Marinette just because she and Adrien were hanging out together.
  • You Can Keep Her!:
    • She refuses to hand over her Miraculous to Volpina when a building of innocents is threatened (it was an illusion, not that she knew that), simply stating that she'll resurrect them all with the Miraculous Cure. She does the same thing when Volpina tries to threaten her beloved Adrien (another illusion), this time claiming that he'd appreciate her sacrifice.
    • She suggests letting Captain Hardrock's hostages drown and resurrecting them, an idea immediately shot down by Chat Noir.
    • When Prime Queen threatens to dump Alya into the Seine, Scarlet Lady outright states she doesn't care since she can bring Alya back with the Miraculous Cure. Too bad for her that all of Paris saw and heard her say that.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: A non-lethal example. It's been made abundantly clear from the start of the series that the days of Chloé retaining the public's goodwill and the Ladybug Miraculous are winding down due to her toxic and selfish behavior.
  • You're Just Jealous: This is one of Chloé's favorite go-to excuses: accusing others of being Driven by Envy. Whether she's dealing with criticism, akumas, magically-animated objects, what have you, they're all jealous of her.
