Lead Performers

The three Lead Performers of the crew with their supreme commander note

"Drought! Plague! Wildfire! We're the Three Calamities that protect Kaido!!! And we're called "Lead Performers" because nobody gets the better of us!!!"
-Queen, Chapter 1023

The top officers of the Animal Kingdom Pirates second only to Kaido in power, rank and authority in the crew. There are three who occupy this position and are collectively known as the "Three Calamities" due to the epithets for each of them, which originates because of the destruction they cause wherever they go. They reside in Onigashima with their captain. Similar to the rest of the crew, they don't get along and often bicker with each-other.

The Lead Performers

    In General

  • Co-Dragons: They're Kaido's closest and strongest subordinates, although King and Queen appear to be bigger threats than Jack, who doesn't talk back when he's scolded by them. Among them, Jack is the one more loyal to Kaido while King is the one who exercises his authority the most. When the revolt at Onigashima begins, Jack follows Kaido to the rooftop while King remains to give orders. However, King is Kaido's right-hand man, as declared by Kaido himself when King first joined him, and is the last major member of the Animal Kingdom Pirates to be taken down, leaving only his captain left.
  • The Dreaded: Being the strongest subordinates to an Emperor, this isn't surprising. Jack is also feared because he's quite hard to reason with, while Queen's subordinates try their best not to anger him. Some underlings become worried when Zoro cuts off part of King's mask... right before his attacks grow wild and indiscriminate.
  • Dub Name Change: Several fan translations denoted them as "All-Stars". In the official VIZ Media English translation of the manga, they are called Lead Performers.
  • Large and in Charge: All of them are huge, dwarfing an average human and the mooks they give orders to, and are just below Kaido in the crew's hierarchy. Jack in particular is shown to be somewhat larger than even Kaido when they're standing together.
  • Oh, Crap!: Along with Kaido, all are shocked when the Akazaya Nine rush the stage to save Momonosuke just as Kaido's about to execute him: King and Queen because they believed the Nine had been defeated, Jack because he believed Dogstorm and Catviper to be dead.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: The Lead Performers are also known as "Calamities", and for good reason — when they fight at their fullest, they cause a lot of damage to the surrounding environment. For example:
    • King, "the Wildfire," sets his surroundings ablaze in battle.
    • Queen, "the Plague," concocts devastating chemical weaponry that can kill hundreds of people simultaneously in seconds.
    • Jack, "the Drought," rampages wherever he goes, leaving the area so barren it looks like a drought passed through.
  • Prehistoric Monster: All three ate Ancient Zoan Fruits that allow them to turn into prehistoric animals.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: As the highest-ranking among Kaido's crew, they are also the three strongest members by a wide margin, displaying an immense level of power and a wide variety of abilities. Their bounties are much higher than the Tobi Roppo's and they're the last forces of Kaido to go down during the War at Onigashima.
  • Red Baron: The Lead Performers, fittingly, have epithets that correspond with a type of disaster and collectively are also known as "The Three Calamities".
    • King is known as "The Wildfire" and has pyrokinetic abilities unique to his race.
    • Queen is known as "The Plague" and is a master at making bioweapons, such as viruses that turn people into zombies.
    • Jack is known as "The Drought" because he causes so much destruction that anywhere he's been looks like it went through a prolonged drought.
  • Superpower Lottery: All three have eaten an Ancient Zoan, one of the rarest type of devil fruit, and each has given them the ability to become a very powerful animal.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: At best, they don't get along; at worst, they legitimately hate each other. When they're introduced, Jack gives a Death Glare to both Queen and King while they throw stealth insults to each other and bully him. Their relationships with the Tobi Roppo are also terrible as they treat most of them with disdain, particularly Sasaki and Who's Who who openly seek to replace them. Queen even openly admits that he wants to eliminate one of the Tobi Roppo. This is later revealed to be X. Drake, as Queen had found out that Drake was a spy.
  • Theme Naming: All of them have taken names from the three highest ranks of playing cards, in order, King, Queen and Jack, which goes with the crew overall naming theme. King's flashback revealing his original name, Alber, implies that these are names to indicate rank in the crew. Each epiphet is based off a catastrophic event: droughts, plagues, and wildfires.
  • Worf Had the Flu: After giving Zoro and Sanji a very hard fight, King and Queen, alongside other minor members, are easily dealt with off-screen by Admiral Ryokugyu to indicate how dangerous he is. However, King and Queen were still recovering from the previous fight, which Ryokugyu acknowledges in the anime.

"Don't get full of yourself... Kaido is the man who will be King of The Pirates!!"
Chapter 1035

One of the Lead Performers, King is a stoic and pragmatic fighter, in contrast to most of the crewmembers who are boisterous dumb muscles. He is part of a near-extinct race that used to live on the Red Line.

King has eaten the Dragon-Dragon Fruit (Ryu Ryu no Mi), Model: Pteranodon, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a Pteranodon, plus his race has the ability to control fire, which is where his moniker "The Wildfire" comes from. Although he has a katana, King is not a swordsman and uses other kinds of attacks in combat as well.

He has a bounty of 1,390,000,000 berries.

  • Achilles' Heel: During their fight, Zoro discerns that King's Super-Toughness is connected to the flames on his back: as long as they burn, he takes no damage. When they go out, King's speed increases, but his durability decreases, allowing Zoro to actually cut him.
  • Adaptation Expansion: King's flashback to his encounter with Kaido in the anime is fleshed out in the anime, showing more of the duo's escape from Punk Hazard with King effortlessly defeating some marines grunts as they try to stop them.
  • Adaptational Badass: King in the anime truly goes out with his final attacks, bombarding Zoro with a swarm of homing Karyudons fired like a Macross Missile Massacre, whereas King in the manga only ever blasted Zoro with one each time. This applies even to his defeat shortly thereafter at Zoro's hands, with King charging head-long into Zoro for a final clash whereas manga King gawked in terror after watching Zoro slice through his ultimate attack.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed, but the anime expanded on the fight between the remnants of the Animal Kingdom Pirates and Ryokugyu. During that fight, when Queen gets impaled by Ryokugyu's giant root, King is calling for the former with a concerned voice, something you would expect from Vitriolic Best Buds, a dynamic we actually don't get to see in the manga where they're always at each others' throat.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: His defeat at the hands of Zoro makes King remember his promise to Kaido to never lose till the day he becomes the Pirate King. And given how Kaido saved him from his imprisonment and gave him new meaning on life as his right-hand man, King's defeat is treated rather solemnly given the two having a mutual respect and friendship with each other.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Exaggerated. King pulls the crest on the back of his head so far back that his beak is retracted into his face; when he releases it, the force of pressure released is compared to a laser beam. He then claims that's how Pteranodons used to hunt when they lived, which is, of course, utter nonsense.
  • Batman Gambit: King summons the Tobiroppo under Kaido's name, fully aware that if they knew that the Lead Performer was the one calling them, some of them (Who's Who and Sasaki) would've just ignored him.
  • Braids of Barbarism: King's white hair is tied a long braid down the right side of his face, cementing his status of belonging to a foreign and warrior-like culture.
  • Beak Attack: King changes into full Pteranodon form while slamming into Sanji, with the express intent of not just putting a hole into him, but splitting him completely in half with his beak. He later performs an... unusual variant by drawing back his beak with the crest on his head and then releasing it like a rubber band. The result is a blast of pressure Zoro compares to a laser beam in terms of power.
  • Berserk Button: He's extremely averse to having his facial features as a Lunarian exposed, so Zoro starting to cut off his mask provokes frenzied attacks with little regard for his surrounding minions, several of whom he later incinerates for merely discussing the Government's price on his lineage once his face is revealed.
  • Broken Faceplate: During their fight, Zoro cuts off a portion of King's mask, which sends the latter into an unstoppable rage. King attacks Zoro without holding back, hurting even his own allies, and claims that what Zoro did is unforgivable.
  • Combat Pragmatist: King doesn't limit himself to honorable ways of fighting. Against the Big Mom pirates, he just aims for the carps carrying the ship over the waterfall, which makes the entire ship (and Big Mom herself) fall down the waterfall and into the ocean. King's katana also has a feature made for disarming swordsmen and switches between it and using hand-to-hand skills against Zoro.
King: Do you need a school or a style in order to fight?
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When he was a young teenager he was imprisoned in Punk Hazard as a test subject due to his status as a Lunarian. He was later rescued from being a prisoner by Kaido who then made him his right hand man. He is also the last known member of his race, which were driven to extinction by the world government and offer a reward if someone tips them off about the status of one.
  • Dark Is Evil: King wears entirely dark clothes and has dark wings reminiscent of a Fallen Angel. He's also one of Kaido's right-hand men who enjoys torturing others.
  • Deadpan Snarker: King is very sarcastic when talking to fellow Lead Performer Queen, mostly to insult him. When Queen mumbles about Luffy's escape from Udon and is still shocked by the news, King simply says his expectations for the former are so low, he doesn't even get mad when failure happens.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: His Devil Fruit is part of the Dragon-Dragon (Ryu Ryu) Devil Fruit family, owing to the fact that the Japanese word for "Dinosaur" is "Kyoryu", written with the characters for "Fearful" and "Dragon". Although technically not dinosaurs, note  pterosaurs are heavily associated with them. If one stretches the definition, it can further fit, as the Japanese for "Pterosaur" still contains the kanji for "dragon".note  His wings are also on fire which take the dragon allusion up a notch.
  • The Dragon: King is technically of equal rank to Queen and Jack, but he's Kaido's first mate. They met long ago when they were experimented on, then Kaido freed Alber, escaped the complex with him and dubbed him "King," declaring him his new right-hand man.
  • Dub Name Change: Several fan translations denote his epithet as "conflagration". He is called "The Wildfire" in the official VIZ English translation.
  • Elemental Punch: King sometimes coats his fists or legs in flames to increase the damage from his attacks. His race, the Lunarians, have the natural ability to "ignite" their bodies.
  • Evil Counterpart: His fight with Zoro and especially his flashback at the end show that they have many traits in common. Both serve their captains out of loyalty due to them breaking them free from imprisonment, both are their captain's Number Two because they were the first ones to join, and both truly believe their captain will be the Pirate King. The flashback compares King vowing to help Kaido become the Pirate King to Zoro doing likewise for Luffy while vowing to be the Greatest Swordsman and to never lose again. King, however, is far more ruthless and murderous than Zoro (he killed his crewmates when they see his unmasked face) and does not have his compassion or sense of honor.
  • Expy: King's look is based off the figure that appears on the cover of Hide Your Face by Hideto Matsumoto, which also has a fiery background.
  • Fiery Stoic: King can create and manipulate flames but is Kaido's most level-headed officer, which also makes him the most suited for ordering the crew during the Onigashima War while his captain is busy on the rooftop.
  • Flaming Sword: When King gets really serious, he channels both his Haki and his flames along his sword, unleashing a wave of fire shaped like a dragon's head that devastates everything in its path.
  • Flight: King is able to fly very fast with both his wings and his pteranodon wings.
  • Foreshadowing: King was rescued by Kaido in a lab where he was experimented on. Many chapters after this scene, it's revealed that the new weapon of the World Government, the Seraphim, are made with the Lineage Factors of the Seven Warlords of the Sea combined with that of King.
  • Fragile Speedster: King is noted to be extremely strong, fast and impossible to damage. However, Zoro realizes that when he turns off the fire on his back, King becomes much faster but also more vulnerable to damage. The fragility is downplayed, though, as Zoro still needs to imbue his swords with Conqueror's Haki to cut and defeat him. Even upon being defeated, King survives falling off Onigashima and crashing onto solid ground miles beneath it.
  • God Guise: Queen explains to Sanji that thanks to their natural immunity to damage, the Lunarians, King's race, were called "gods", and considered as much until they were wiped out.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: He has a pair of dark angelic wings, as well as massive pterosaur wings when he transforms, both of which emphasizes his alignment with an evil pirate.
  • Having a Blast: One time Zoro's sword attempts to pierce King, his body unleashes a powerful explosion that does zero damage to him; Zoro's Haki is all that keeps him in the fight.
  • He Knows Too Much: He kills a few of his subordinates after they see him without the mask and identify him as a Lunarian that the World Government would play handsomely for anyone who would tip off about their whereabouts.
  • Hellbent For Leather: Wears a dark leather uniform and a mask somewhat resembling a cross between steampunk and BDSM wear.
  • Hidden Depths: King seems to know something about "Joy Boy;" he apparently believed for a time that Kaido was this character after freeing him from imprisonment.
  • Hunk: Once his mask comes off and his face is properly shown, he looks quite handsome, with a good looking face, rugged hair style and muscular upper body.
  • Informed Flaw: In their shared introduction, Queen refers to him as a "torture-loving pervert". However, King isn't particularly sadistic compared to the rest of the Animal Kingdom Pirates and he's shown to be more concerned with efficiency than pleasure when it comes to fights. However, this could be a cruel joke from Queen referencing the fact that Kaido found him in one of the World Government's labs as he was being experimented on, and rescued him.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: King's weapon is a large katana with a special function that shifts the blade into a saw form, allowing King to catch and pull away swords that clash against it. Kaido briefly borrows it during his "New Onigashima" speech to decapitate Orochi.
  • Ki Manipulation: King coats his sword in Armament Haki while locking blades with Zoro.
  • Last of His Kind: While dining with Kaido, Linlin shows a vivid interest in King because he's the last Lunarian, a race that used to live on the Red Line and whose members were revered as gods.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: After Zoro damages his mask, King turns into his hybrid form and attacks with much more strength and ferociousness, putting Zoro under pressure and hitting his own allies.
  • Lightning Bruiser: King is extremely fast and strong, with his Pteranodon form further enhancing these abilities. After getting his mask damaged, King's attacks become more ferocious and Zoro finds himself pressured by his repeated assaults. However, when his flame is out, his greater speed is balanced by the fact that he's vulnerable to attacks, veering into Fragile Speedster.
  • Magic Pants: While all of the Zoan transformations keep the clothes fitting as well, in King's case is even more extreme because his form-fitting body suit and mask also fit his Pteranodon form, wing and beak included.
  • Meaningful Rename: King's real name is Alber, but when Kaido freed him from the government's lab long ago, his new captain said he should call himself "King" to show his strength.
  • Nerves of Steel: In contrast to Queen, King keeps a cool head. When the Big Mom Pirates are almost at Wano's borders, he swoops down in his Pteranodon form and, without any fanfare, boots the Queen Chanter back off the waterfall. Later in Big Mom's presence, King admits he's surprised she survived, but doesn't appear intimidated. He even has the guts to bluntly refuse her offer to join her. Both King and Jack give no objections to Kaido allowing the Tobiroppo to fight (and possibly replace) either of them. While he shows more caution after Zoro finally manages to inflict real damage in their fight, King retains a cool expression up until the moment before his defeat.
  • Necessary Drawback: When King has his flame on, his defense is nigh-invulnerable that he can tank blows to him and combust if struck directly up close and harm his opponent in the explosion. But in order to use his speed in flight, he has to turn off his flame to do so and sacrifice is defense to focus on offense, risking attacks actually affecting him. Once Zoro finds this out, the battle becomes much more even.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: King never bothers with posturing, monologuing or codes of honor. If he goes after someone, he'll use everything he's got to quickly dispatch them.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Much like Charlotte Katakuri, King's design is a bit out of place in the One Piece world. He's decked out head to toe in a form-fitting black leather outfit riddled with spikes and looks like he'd be more at home in something like Fist of the North Star or Mad Max.
  • No-Sell: For the vast majority of his fight with Zoro, his Super-Toughness allows King to take little to no damage from his opponent's attacks. For example, Zoro tries stabbing him with one of his swords, but is unable to pierce King's suit, let alone King himself. Even Death Lion Song, which is one of Zoro's strongest attacks and usually finishes off the opponent, does absolutely nothing to King.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his stoic, collected demeanor, King shows a little immaturity from time to time, like trading insults with Queen. He also uses his ''Pteranodon's'' abilities in abnormal ways similar to Queen and Sasaki.
  • Not So Stoic: King is the most calm and collected of Kaido's subordinates, and keeps his cool during the entire Onigashima war, until Zoro slightly damages his mask. Then King goes on a furious rampage, injuring fellow crewmates with his attacks without care and tries to toss Zoro off from Onigashima.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When he starts blocking Zoro's attacks, Zoro takes notice and cites it as a sign that King is getting desperate despite trying to remain stoic, as Zoro has figured out the trick to King's abilities (namely, his defenses lower when his flame is off, causing him to lose his Nigh-Invulnerability and allowing Zoro's attacks to finally affect him). The fact King breaks off and claims no human can beat him is all the confirmation Zoro needs.
    • King unleashes his magma dragon at Zoro, confident that Zoro can't counter it, only for Zoro's final attack to slice right through it. King's final reaction is one of shock before Zoro cuts him down, slicing in half both his sword and one of his wings in the process
  • Playing with Fire: King constantly has flames protruding from his back and some level of pyrokinetic ability, like igniting his own limbs or his sword. These powers are not because of a Devil Fruit but an ability of his race, who could control fire.
  • Putting on the Reich: King wears an outfit that would make an SS officer blush, with black leather from head to toe and a notably militaristic style double-breasted jacket complete with skull emblems, and gloves and boots to match. This visually presents him as an evil man of authority and denotes his sadism.
  • Razor Wind: In his hybrid form, King generates massive winds that slash through nearly anything around him and send Zoro flying by just flapping his wings-arms.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: King has dark red eyes that compliments the black that covers his entire design. Together, they serve as a visual theme representing both his combat prowess and cruelty.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: King is the blue Oni to Queen's red. The two of them are often compared together, moreso than with Jack, and always butt heads, making their differences very clear: King is calm and stoic, and doesn't lose his cool when the Kozuki rebellion assaults Onigashima. Queen is loud, energetic, has exaggerated reactions, and loves dancing.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: In between his fight with Marco, King proceeds to immolate former crewmates that defected because of Queen's Ice Oni virus.
King: The price for treason is very steep.
  • Sadist: Loves torture, according to Queen, and his outfit appears to be a BDSM wear.
  • Serrated Blade of Pain: Downplayed: King's massive katana can retract segments of the blade near the hilt to form a comb-like structure to trap enemy blades and then disarm them.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: King's special attack is a concentrated blast of fire from his sword with the appearance of a roaring dragon. Zoro compares its heat to magma, and the dragon bears resemblance to Kaido's Zoan form.
  • Shed Armor, Gain Speed: His Lunarian powers are a biological form of this trope. While the flames burn on King's back, he's nearly impossible to injure. When they go out, his speed increases but he can be harmed.
  • Shout-Out: His fiery Pteranodon transformation closely calls to mind Rodan, a Pteranodon-like Kaiju that lives in a volcano.
  • Significant White Hair, Dark Skin: His full-body suit hides his white hair and dark skin, both of which (along with his exposed black-feathered wings and dorsal flame) are distinguishing traits of the nearly extinct Lunarian race. In the manga, he (and the Seraphim partially made from him) are the only characters depicted with such heavily shaded skin tone.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: King and Queen indulges in petty bickering very often. Their first scene starts with them throwing insults at each other.
  • Spikes of Villainy: King wears a full bodysuit resembling BDSM wear, complete with metal spikes, and is a very ruthless pirate. The spikes aren't mere decoration, either; he uses the ones on his fists to deal further damage with his punches.
  • The Stoic: Aside from trading barbs with Queen, King never shows any emotion, regardless of the situation. Be it the possibility of losing his position to one of the Tobiroppo, the Big Mom Pirates trying to invade Wano, standing in the presence of their captain who's on the same level strengthwise as Kaido himself, or Kaido suddenly using King's weapon to decapitate Orochi during a broadcasted speech. For this reason, King manages to stay cool while the Straw Hats and the Kozuki rebellion invade the palace and handles the troops while Kaido is busy fighting on top of Onigashima.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Lunarians, the species King belongs to, possess not only the ability to set their bodies on fire but also extreme natural toughness. They were once revered as gods, and Queen claims that King himself is a monster that can weather any natural environment thrown at him. When he was young, King was experimented on to test his Lunarian abilities.
  • Super-Toughness: While fighting him, Zoro notes that despite some of his attacks landing, King hasn't shed a single drop of blood; even after flying in the epicenter of Black Rope Dragon Twister or taking a direct blow from Iai Death Lion Song, the only "damage" King took is to his mask. This invulnerability is part of his Lunarian heritage, but Zoro then finds out King's weak point: when he turns his flame off, he gets faster but also vulnerable.
  • Sword and Fist: King openly scoffs at the practice of limiting yourself to just one form of combat. While fighting Zoro, he alternates between slashing with his katana and simply punching him with his spiked gloves in the face. Zoro susses out pretty quickly that King doesn't care about having an honorable sword duel with him.
  • Theme Naming: King's attacks tend to end in "-don" in the original Japanese, as a reference to his Pterano'don' Devil Fruit. This translates into them beginning with "Imperial" in English.
  • Undying Loyalty: King is a ruthless pirate who has no qualms with dispatching anyone he deems an enemy, but he is utterly devoted to his captain. The two share a wordless respect for each other so great that King refuses Big Mom's offer to join her crew without hesitation, holds out on wordless cue his sword for Kaido when he's about to behead Orochi, and later declares near the end of his fight with Zoro that Kaido will become the King of the Pirates. This is because Kaido saved him long ago from the government and confirmed Arbel's question that he would change the world. The freshly re-named "King" declared that he would never lose a battle until his new captain becomes the Pirate King. His faith in Kaido is so strong that when the latter told him that the man they are waiting for, Joy Boy, would be the one to defeat him, King simply responded that in that case he didn’t think Joy Boy would ever appear, showing that his faith in his captain's strength was unshakeable.
  • Villainous Friendship: King and Kaido's relationship is deeper than a simple one between a captain and his subordinate, Kaido saved King from being experimented on years ago and gave him his name and King is shown to be completely devoted to Kaido and firmly believes that Kaido will one day become the Pirate King.
  • Villain Respect: It's laced with arrogant sarcasm, but King says in their final clash that he'll remember what a troublesome opponent Zoro has been.
  • Wardrobe Wound: After Zoro breaks off a piece of King's mask in their fight, the latter's attacks suddenly become more fiercer, to the point he ends up hitting friend and foe alike in an attempt to knock Zoro off Onigashima, calling Zoro's actions "unforgivable".
  • When He Smiles: He doesn't get to smile that often due to hiding his face, however, when in private in only Kaido's presence he expresses joy and it brings out his softer side and facial features.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: While not the most monstrous villain in One Piece, he's still a pretty vile pirate and it turns out that Lunarians have white hair, which contrasts with his evil personality.
  • Winged Humanoid: As a Lunarian, King sports a pair of large black feathered wings. When he enters his hybrid form, however, the wings disappear, but his arms become a Pteranodon's wings.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Somewhat downplayed, but he does have a plume of fire rising from his back, fitting for his Red Baron. It seemingly grows in size when in Pteranodon form, giving him a somewhat flaming appearance.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Zoro assumes that the flames protruding from King's back are another part of his Devil Fruit, but King himself says that isn't the case. The flames are the result of a natural ability of his race. As a Lunarian, King has very powerful pyrokinetic abilities. Indeed he's at his most dangerous when he's not using his Zoan-type Devil Fruit.

"If I lost weight, I'd be too popular! So that's why I stay big! I may seem round, but it's all muscle! It's time to sing and dance!!!"

One of the Lead Performers, Queen is an eccentric and dramatic man in charge of the Udon region of Wano Country. He enjoys partying but is also an evil genius and an expert in biological weapons. Queen also used to be part of a pirate crew made of fellow evil scientists like Vegapunk and Judge.

He has eaten the Dragon-Dragon Fruit (Ryu Ryu no Mi), Model: Brachiosaurus, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a Brachiosaurus and he has put some cybernetic modifications into his own dinosaur form.

He has a bounty of 1,320,000,000 berries.

  • Acrofatic: Queen is surprising agile despite his fat and rotund body. Even in his stocky Brachiosaurus form, Queen is able to jump surprisingly high, which lets him drop on his enemies with a powerful impact.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the manga, his battle with Sanji is essentially over the moment Sanji unveils Ifrit Jambe: the rest of the fight consists of Sanji unleashing a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on Queen before literally kicking him off the island. However in the anime, Queen actually tanks his initial barrage and even manages to make a counterattack before being finished off with Boeuf Burst.
  • Agent Peacock: Queen is a flamboyant Camp Straight performer who hams it up and loves to sing & dance. But, he's a Genius Bruiser Mad Scientist who can create deadly plagues and transform into a massive brachiosaurus that can smash opponents into oblivion.
  • All Your Powers Combined: To prove that he's better than Judge, Queen has installed upon himself all the powers of the Germa Quadruplets: lasers from his eyes, electricity, twisting and Sanji's invisibility. He uses them in quick succession on Sanji after he destroyed his raid suit.
  • Always Someone Better: Queen has put a lot of time and effort into proving himself a superior scientist to Judge. He's gone so far as to replicate the abilities of the Vinsmoke sons and challenge Sanji (who wants absolutely nothing to do with his family) with said abilities. This gets karmically reversed on him towards the end of their fight, as Sanji proves that he doesn't need his family's technology to fight him, breaking his raid suit and choosing to fight him without the advantages it gave him. Despite getting hit with every one of his brothers' unique abilities, Sanji endures it all, and beats Queen with his Diable Jambe fighting style alone, thanks to having learned how to fight long before his natural enhancements were activated by the raid suit. He is able to unleash a new level of heat thanks to the physical alterations that had already taken place, but those aren't something he can do anything about, and instead they only prove the point that Sanji is now far stronger than his siblings with or without their technology.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: His Brachiosaurus form has an orange coloration. Possibly a more acceptable example than most, as we have no way of knowing what colour real dinosaurs actually were.
  • An Arm and a Leg: While using Winch Queen with his mechanical arm, the cord keeping his segments together is exposed and Sanji cuts it off with a flaming kick.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Sanji, who deeply resents Queen more than any of his other opponents for pushing all of his buttons and probing at his past traumas. This includes calling Sanji a Vinsmoke and addressing him almost exclusively as "Judge's son", incorporating all of the Germa Quadruplets' powers into his body (reminding Sanji of the family he hates), and hitting a woman and framing Sanji for it. The only thing he hasn't done is waste food, which would make him Sanji's complete antithesis.
  • Artificial Limbs: His left arm is mechanical, which transforms into a forelimb when he changes into his Brachiosaurus form and it can replicate Yonji Vinsmoke's 'Winch Green' abilities. In his hybrid form, both his tail and his hair become an additional cybernetic arm.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Exaggerated. During his fight with Sanji, Queen decides to reveal "what a Brachiosaurus can do": detach his head, neck, and tail from the entire rest of his body and eject from it, demonstrating that the natural form of the Brachiosaurus is that of a gigantic serpent, noting that the rest of the body, limbs included, is as disposable as a snake's discarded skin. Brachiosaurus weren't snakes.
  • As You Know: During the party at Onigashima, Queen makes a musical number during which he involves all of the members of the Animal Kingdom pirates and their current allies, acting as a quick recap to show the enemies of the arc and the hierarchy of Kaido's crew.
  • Badass Boast: Being the most energetic among the Lead Performers, Queen tends to let loose a couple in between his fights.
    • He gives a collective boast for the Three Calamities, right after he and King tank powerful attacks from Sanji and Zoro, respectively.
    • Queen declares that he'll show Sanji his cyborg abilites that could put even Vegapunk to shame right before getting more serious in the fight.
    • Interestingly despite their rivalry, Queen even gives one on behalf of King, claiming that as the last of the Lunarians, he's more than a match for Zoro.
  • Bad Boss: Queen verbally abuses his men often. One of them also tells another with confidence that Queen would kill them if they were to ruin his mood by telling him Komurasaki is dead. Still, all appear to adore him, probably because he's still affable when not angered, and entertains them by organizing sumo matches between prisoners and guards. He likewise doesn't think much of the Pleasures, only viewing them as cackling lackeys that aren't good for anything other than shoring up Kaido's forces. During the Battle at Onigashima, he has no qualms firing into the crowd of his own men to try and hit his enemies with his ice plague bullets to turn them into infectious ice demons and, rather gleefully, admits they'll die after a set amount of time and then throws the antidote to Apoo, his own ally, and directs both allies and enemies attention to him, knowing they'll chase him once he pointed out Apoo has it. Later in the battle, when his own men beg him to help them, Queen goes off on a tirade about how, unless they're Gifters, they're perfectly expendable because the Pleasures lost their gambit in eating a SMILE Fruit and can only laugh while Waiters lost their chance at a power in general because their SMILE factories were destroyed. Citing the least they can do is take the virus he infected them with and be of some use to the Animal Kingdom Pirates, even if said virus would kill them. This mistreatment leads the Pleasures and the Waiters to change sides and support Chopper, who cured them with a counter-virus.
  • Berserk Button: Eating, or even the suggestion of anyone else eating his oshiruko stocks makes him drop the affable part of his personality. To the point that he's willing to take on Big Mom — an Emperor and rival to Kaido himself (albeit amnesiac) simply because she strolled in thinking that there was some and she wanted it.
    Queen: Did you say "oshiruko"!?
"O-Lin"/Big Mom: That's right! Hurry up and bring it to me! I was told if I came here, I'd be able to eat lots of oshiruko! That's why we traveled all this way!
Queen: Don't mess with me! Who the hell told you that!?
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's positively comedic compared to King and Jack, but One Piece is established as a World of Badass, and you don't get a one billion bounty just by being silly. Having the power of a Brachiosaurus doesn't hurt, either.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Inverted. He claims that if he loses weight he would be too handsome, although he specifies his fat is actually muscle. An SBS does show Queen if he was slim and he still wouldn't be very nice to the eyes.
  • Big Fun: While his billion+ bounty and position in the Animal Kingdom Pirates obviously gives away the fact that he's not a good guy, his overall demeanor is very jolly and energetic and he's a fun guy to be around as long as he's in a good mood. This is more glaring when compared to his fellow Lead Performers, who are stoic and pragmatic.
  • Breath Weapon: Queen keeps a laser cannon somewhere in his gullet that he uses to fire his highly destructive Black Coffee Beam while in his Zoan form.
  • Bullying a Dragon: After Charlotte Linlin asks for his red bean soup, Queen gets pissed, transforms into a Brachiosaurus, and attacks her, despite being aware of her strength. Linlin grabs his neck and smashes him against a wall.
  • Calling Your Attacks:
    • Like every character in this story, Queen tends to shout out the name of the attack he's performing. This actually gives him some trouble in his fight with Sanji; his torso contains rocket launchers that fire upon registering Queen saying "Brachio Launcher"... and promptly blast Queen when he says their name in his explanation. Then he scolds his own body and says that it wasn't the time to shoot the "Brachio Launcher" and gets shot again.
    • As a proof that Queen mastered the Germa 66's techniques, he calls his attacks similar to Sanji's brothers, only replacing the colors with "Queen".
  • Camp Straight: Despite wearing lipstick and having mannerisms akin to that of an Okama, his Establishing Character Moment includes him talking about how beautiful Komurasaki is and saying that he and his men should visit the red-light district after work. He loses his fight with Sanji because of a woman who rejected him.
  • Carry a Big Stick: While battling the Akazaya Nine in the past, he is shown using a club covered in something, presumably poisonous, that is making it give off some kind of gas.
  • Cigar Chomper: He's smoking one at all times, even when in his Zoan form. Like most cigar smokers in the series, he's an antagonist.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: His big introduction shows how eccentric he is by performing a dance number with his men, asking the jail warden who summoned him to name their top three problems in backwards order, and reacting with a Wild Take to all three of them.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Queen demonstrates zero issue with using any and all advantages he can to dispose of threats once he starts focusing. Be it sneak attacks, virus-based weaponry, ganging up on targets, or even just trying to mow down foes with a gigantic minigun, he's more than happy to. Really shown during his confrontation with Big Mom. After going through a Curb-Stomp Battle against Big Mom, he realizes pretty fast he's got no chance against her in a straight fight, and makes his next move a sucker punch with everything he's got.
  • Combat Tentacles: In his hybrid form, Queen's tail as well as his hair braid manifest grasping claws thanks to his cyborg upgrades. The claws can shoot laser beams as well.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He stands no chance against Big Mom, and she totally curbstomps him in two moves. He also defeats Chopper with relative ease, playing around with the reindeer and turning the tables immediately when he decides to get serious.
  • Cyborg: Queen has a lot of mechanical enhancements in his body. In his Brachiosaurus form, he has a pair of guns concealed in his mouth, retractable metal fangs and his neck can split in several places to extend his already impressive reach with metal sections in the gaps and can shoot lasers from his mouth similar to a Pacifista. When in his hybrid form, his metal arm can turn into a claw as well as his hair braid and his tail. Sanji correctly deduces this is because he was part of a group called MADS, that his father, Judge, likewise belonged to and worked under Dr. Vegapunk. He even boasts that his mechanical cyborg enhancements are way more advanced that anything made by Vegapunk himself.
  • Determinator: Even after Big Mom thrashes him, he still manages to get back up to attempt to find a way to stop her, timing a divebomb attack in his Zoan form to headbutt her as hard as possible.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: The Devil Fruit Queen ate allows him to transform into a Brachiosaurus and is classified under the Dragon-Dragon (Ryu Ryu) Fruit family, therefore making the dinosaur he turns into being classified as a dragon subspecies. This is so as the Japanese word for dinosaur, Kyoryu, is written with the characters for "Fearful" and "Dragon".
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Downplayed. Queen manages to stop a rampaging Charlotte Linlin with a single blow, by landing on her head in his Brachiosaurus form. However, Big Mom does not actually get knocked out and is just put to sleep for enough time to be tied up with multiple layers of Seastone chains.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: In a big twist of irony, Queen loses his fight with Sanji because, upon seeing the woman who rejected him is still fine, he forgets about his opponent and goes on to attack her. This not only pisses off Sanji even more, but makes Queen open to attack himself.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: When Big Mom threatens to eat the oshiruko, Queen turns into a Brachiosaurus and prepares to deal with her. Not even a page later, she's knocking his face into the pavement with a single punch.
  • Evil Counterpart:
    • Surprisingly, to Sanji. One of Kaido's Co-Dragons alongside King — similar to Sanji's role as one of “Luffy’s wings” alongside Zoro —, Queen is a blonde, pervertedly horny Genius Bruiser and Combat Pragmatist who, like Sanji, can be remarkably silly at times and even uses the same Germa technology (such as invisibility) to fight like Sanji does for a time in Wano. However, unlike Sanji, who usually fights honourably and respects women, Queen beats up innocent courtesans who reject him and employs Dirty Coward tactics such as poisoning his own crew to win. Also, while Queen uses weapons and Germa technology in battle, Sanji continues to fight completely unarmed and even destroys his Raid Suit to show he’s above such tools. Queen’s role as Master Poisoner can also be seen antithetical to Sanji's role as Supreme Chef.
    • He is also a foil to Chopper, who as The Medic makes drugs to help people get better, not infect them with diseases like Queen does.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Queen visits Udon, he makes two Wild Takes at Babanuki's reports, before telling them to suppress Luffy and Kid rampaging in Udon. While he's as powerful and ruthless as one of Kaido's top enforcers, this establishes that unlike Jack and King, his antics are a lot more entertaining.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Queen is a Bad Boss to his men and has no regard towards their well-being in using them for a sadistic game of Ice Oni tag, but in his fight with Sanji shows even Queen is appalled that Judge turned his own children into Cyborgs without their consent.
  • Evil Laugh: His Signature Laugh, "Muhahaha" denotes his villainy.
  • Fangs Are Evil: While the Brachiosaurus is an herbivore with long teeth, Queen's teeth in his animal form are noticeably sharp, making him look more dangerous than a docile herbivore. Queen can make his teeth even sharper thanks to retractable metal fangs that increase his biting power. He pulls them out to take a bite out of Chopper once he gets serious, but loses most of them when Sanji stops him.
  • Fat Bastard: An obese pirate who organizes deadly matches between prisoners and wardens as if they were silly games. Though he claims it's all muscle and that he would be too popular if he lost weight.
  • Fat Comic Relief: His round shape makes him much more goofy-looking than the other members of the crew, especially compared to Jack, whose design is filled with horns and the dark and leather-dressed King. Queen also has a very energetic and entertaining personality while the other Lead Performers are much more serious, and Queen gets to have many comical moments and exaggerated reactions.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He's very joyful and full of life while gently explaining Luffy and Hyo the rules of the deadly sumo matches they're taking part in or the Sadistic Choice between losing the sumo match and dying or killing Eustass Kid and Killer. His joyful side becomes less prominent as he gets angrier because of the lack of oshiruko.
  • Fearless Fool: Pressing his Berserk Button turns Queen into one. Such as when he throws away his sense and self-preservation to pick a fight with Big Mom after she asks where the o-shiruko, Queen's favorite food, is.
  • For the Evulz: After infecting enemies and allies with his Ice Oni Virus, Queen declares to have the antidote and throws it to Apoo so that the supernova would be chased by the infected while Queen enjoys the scene.
  • Foreshadowing: Despite not being any sort of archeologist, he's surprisingly knowledgeable about the history of the Lunarians. It's later revealed that his former colleague, Vegapunk, had memorized every single surviving book from Ohara, so it's not too hard to guess where Queen got his knowledge from.
  • Formerly Fit: A cover story showcasing Queen as part of MADS pirate/science group reveals that he used to have a very well-toned body during his younger years, while in the present he's extremely fat (though he claims that it's all muscles). It's not clear how popular he was back then though.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Despite his look and overall personality, Queen is very intelligent when it comes to weapons. He designed the plague bullets that his underling uses, while he uses an even more dangerous kind. His mechanical arm is likely his own creation as well.
  • Gatling Good: Has access to a huge minigun with a Ammunition Backpack, which he pulls out to shoot at Drake after the latter's betrayal is revealed. Furthermore, the bullets are Plague Rounds loaded with the Ice Oni Virus.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Although "Queen" is not an actual name, it's the female equivalent of "king" but, despite this feminine name, Queen is a man, although with some effeminate mannerism.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a huge enough man in his human form, and his Zoan form is one of the largest in the series, but he's also very adept at creating weapons and other tech that serve the goals of the crew. Queen claims that not even Vegapunk can match him in terms of cybernetic enhancements. His accomplishments include manufacturing artificial plagues that can dehydrate people or turn them into feral ice demons near instantly before killing them; modifying his own body so extensively that mechanical tricks are prevalent when he is either in full Brachiosaurus or hybrid form; and successfully replicating the superpowers of the Vinsmoke quadruplets.
  • Genius Ditz: Queen is very smart when it comes to engineering weapons (particularly bioweapons), but he also displays shockingly poor judgment and planning on a regular basis and has a very eccentric personality. Queen has installed the "Brachio Launchers", twin rocket launchers in his torso that fire when he calls their name. He brags about them and gets accidentally shot, he then scolds his own body and gets shot a second time when he accidentally pronounces "Brachio Launchers" again.
  • Gentle Giant Sauropod: Inverted; Queen can transform into a Brachiosaurus but, as a Mad Scientist and a high-ranking member of an oppressive pirate crew who infects his own subordinates with a deadly virus, the last thing he could be called is gentle.
  • Gonk: He's not a nice man to look at, it doesn't help he's massively obese. His personality isn't much better either.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Kaido and Big Mom are fighting on Onigashima, Queen calls his men cowards for wanting to run away from the island... right before he tries to find an excuse to return to Udon and leave Onigashima.
  • If I Can't Have You…: At Onigashima, there's Queen's second-favorite oiran, after Komurasaki. However, she rejected his advances and, in response, Queen badly beat her while invisible. Upon seeing that she's still fine, Queen prepares to beat her again but Sanji stops him.
  • I Am Big Boned: While dancing, Queen claims that his round body is all muscle, not fat.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: After Sanji destroys his raid suit, Queen reveals that he's far more knowledgeable about Vinsmoke Judge's technological achievements than he'd let on and waited for Sanji to use his raid suit before showing them off. He proves this by whipping out Sanji's brothers' powers one after the other, pummelling him across the room they're in.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: In the midst of the battle at Onigashima, Queen mocks both his infected men and the samurai for trusting that Chopper will make an antidote to his virus for all of them, thinking that, since Chopper is a pirate, he'll just take it for himself and run the first chance he gets. Right after he says it, Chopper indeed finishes the antidote then has it loaded into a cannon and fired to make a cloud that'll rain down the cure on everyone in the room.
  • Kavorka Man: Queen is very large, fat (claims its muscle) and unattractive but still has a lot of female admirers thanks to his charisma when he dances.
  • Killer Bear Hug: Queen's Brachiosaurus form has the "natural" ability to separate its neck, torso and tail from the rest to form a giant serpent. When Sanji's wrapped crushingly tight by this form, Queen brags that not even masters of Armament Haki can walk away unhurt from this attack. Sanji survives with a mangled left arm and leg, and it's only the awakening of his latent Vinsmoke modifications that puts him back in shape.
  • Ki Manipulation: Queen uses Armament Haki to defend against Sanji's attacks.
  • Large Ham: When he arrives at the prison mines, Queen debuts with an energetic dance number while describing himself, stealing the attention from everyone else. During the party at Onigashima, Queen's acts as a musical announcer and is the center of attention of the party. The Tobi Roppo, especially Ulti, find Queen too loud and annoying.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After hitting most of the people on the main floor with his Ice Demon virus, including his own men, Queen throws his antidote vial to Apoo before directing everyone's attention to him, with the former fully expecting them to kill each other over trying to retrieve it to the point the virus will eventually kill the invaders. Unfortunately for him, he underestimates how strong the Straw Hats are, with Zoro instantly striking down Apoo to get the vial, then handing it over to Chopper to make the antidote while the samurai defend him. Not only does Chopper create a cure for the virus, he cures everyone on the main floor by turning it into a counter-virus. This causes Queen's men to side with the Straw Hats for good.
  • Laughably Evil: In comparison to the other higher ups of an Emperor crew, the Animal Kingdom Pirates included, Queen is by far the most comedic, especially in contrast to fellow Lead Performers King and Jack. He loves dancing and partying and has very cartoonish reactions to his subordinates' incompetence.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Not to be upstaged by Jack, Queen sees no issue with going one on one with an Emperor when it comes to defend his stock of O-shiruko.
  • Life of the Party: During the yearly party at Onigashima, Queen becomes the vocalist and sings a musical number which involves all the members of the Animal Kingdom Pirates and their current allies.
  • Lost in Translation:
    • Queen has a tendency to interject the literal English word "Excite" into his sentences which in Japanese is pronounced as "Ekisaito". This is a reference to his epithet, "The Plague", as the Japanese word for plague is pronounced as "Ekisai". The pun is generally lost when his dialogue is translated into English. The Viz translation though retains the pun somewhat with Queen saying phrases such as "I'm plagued with excitement!"
    • The Japanese pun with the literal English word "Excite" and the Japanese word for plague (Ekisai) continues on with a creation of Queen's called "Excitement Bullets", specialized bullets that infect those shot with a contagious plague.
  • Made of Iron: Queen takes a heavy beating from Big Mom, including getting thrown against a cliff, and manages to get back on his feet with a new plan within a few minutes. Even accounting for his cyborg enhancements, this speaks volumes about his durability.
  • Mad Scientist: Despite his appearance, Queen delights in toying with technology, most commonly to create weapons and instruments of torture, like his plague bullets and bladed collars. Queen was part of a group of scientists called MADS, among which there were Judge, which is the reason Queen finds an interest in Sanji, and Vegapunk as well.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
    • His retaliation on Big Mom just ends up restoring her memory, though he lucks out when she suddenly falls asleep not long after the attack. He then has Big Mom bound by Seastone chain, puts her on a ship, and goes to personally deliver her to Kaido with the majority of his subordinates while leaving only a small contingent of his men in charge of the prison, but doesn't check to see if Luffy is alive or not. No sooner than he leaves and has Udon locked down, does Luffy appear, now free of the beheading collar, and gets ready to run roughshod over the guards.
    • Later, after he spreads the Ice Oni, instead of just let mass chaos ensue from it, Queen decides to make a sport out of it and hands Apoo the antidote, which eventually ends up in Chopper's hands, allowing him to make a counteracting agent to cure everyone infected, friend and foe alike. This likewise turns his men against him due to his tirade about how expendable they are and his willingness to sacrifice them. Once his men are cured, they have no obligation to serve him further and fight with the samurai, essentially bolstering the forces against the Animal Kingdom Pirates.
    • Sanji gets worried that the Germa enhancements have made him into a monster to the point of making him hit an innocent woman. However, Queen accidentally reveals it was him, while invisible, to have hit her and absolves Sanji's guilt, which allow him to develop a new powerful attack and beat Queen.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Queen is a pirate that ate a Devil Fruit that let him become a brachiosaurus and modified his own body, becoming a cyborg as well. These make him a dinosaur-cyborg-pirate who lives in the land of ninjas and samurai.
  • Ocular Gushers: Queen cries through his glasses upon learning, from a drunk Kaido, that Komurasaki is dead.
  • Oh, Crap!: Panics when he first sees Big Mom invading the prison, mostly because he thought her dead after King's attack. Also, when he realizes that Big Mom has seemingly shrugged off his carefully-prepared Brachio Bomber attack. He also joins his own men in the Mass "Oh, Crap!" when Big Mom and Kaido duel, splitting the sky in half. He has another moment when he finds out Straw Hat has not merely led a few hundred people to raid Onigashima, but actually several thousand, which include in their ranks former Warlords, several Supernovas, and top lieutenants of other Emperors, and they've already stormed into the central stronghold under their noses. He goes from gleefully mocking them to hurriedly calling everyone to battle very quickly.
  • Plaguemaster: As his epithet implies, Queen is an expert at weaponizing disease, especially creating ammo that can inflict highly contagious viruses which turns the victims into zombies or demons. His so-called masterpiece is a virus that turns everyone who comes in contact to it into ferocious ice-onis who spread the virus through bites or scratches.
  • Prehensile Hair: Queen's braid contains cybernetics that allows him to control it like an appendage, as well as a claw at the end that fires lasers, heat up to deadly temperatures and grab opponents.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: Except for his biological weapons, Queen installs his cybernetic enhancements upon himself, including all the Germa 66's superhuman modifications and powers. It makes him a tough fighter that puts Sanji on the edge during their fight.
  • Properly Paranoid: After knocking Big Mom, Queen wraps her in all the 100% Seastone chains they can get their hands on and injecting her with 100 shots of beast tranquilizers and taking the majority of guards as escorts., which may be excessive for anyone else, but it's a wise choice when you have to transport one of the Four Emperors.
  • Punched Across the Room: Sanji's final attack punts him completely out of the Onigashima and into the air, along with knocking him unconscious.
  • Punny Name: His Black Coffee Beam features a pun: it is written with the kanji for "Burning Light"... which are pronounced Kohi, similar to the Japanese pronunciation of "Coffee". Alternatively, “Black Coffee Beam” sounds a lot like “Black Coffee Bean”.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Queen is the red to King's blue.
  • Repulsive Ringmaster: Though not actually a circus, the way Queen runs his Udon Prison death fights as well as his character in general certainly qualifies him for this, particularly his infectious enthusiasm and skill at adding new stakes to his Sumo Inferno tournaments, as well as his somewhat clown-like apparel and physical appearance.
  • Sadist: Queen revels in the horrific effects of his own engineered viruses, regardless of who suffers them. During the battle of Onigashima, Queen releases his Ice Oni plague into the celebration hall, dooming everybody there to suffer a painful and ultimately fatal transformation into a monster, including the Animal Kingdom Pirates. Not only this, but he also mocks the inflicted, taunting them for losing their friends and comrades to his virus. To top off his sadism, he gives the single antidote vial to Scratchmen Apoo, to string along his victims even further by giving them a shot at survival.
  • Sadistic Choice: On the second day of the Inferno Sumo, after capturing Kid and Kamazo aka Killer, Kid's subordinate, Queen has the two tied up over a vat of water then dunks their heads in with the intent to drown them and tells Luffy to stop putting up resistance or they will drown. Despite Luffy claiming they have nothing to do with him, Queen noticed him showing concern for the two and put Luffy in a position of letting them be submerged underwater if he continues to fight or get beaten to keep them alive but run the risk of Hyogoro and him being knocked out of the ring which would activate their collars and cut off their heads. Luckily, Linlin's arrival manages to avert this and save Kid and Kamazo.
  • Sissy Villain: Queen wears lipstick and his mannerisms are similar to that of the okama but he's still one of Kaido's strongest subordinates and an evil scientist.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Queen and King indulges in petty bickering very often, not helped by their opposite personalities. Their first scene starts with them throwing insults at each other.
  • Something We Forgot: He's so focused on dealing with Big Mom, he completely forgets about Luffy and Hyogoro who are about to cause a revolt. Once he has Big Mom bound in Seastone and sails off to take her to Kaido with most of his men, he leaves only a handful of guards in charge of the prison. No sooner than he's gone, Luffy, free of the beheading collar, as well as the Seastone cuffs that Queen had took off of him during the punishment trials, appears before the guards and prepares to take them out.
  • Stealth Pun: A massive man named Queen with make up and okama mannerism who can transform into a creature classified as a Dragon. In other words, he's a Drag Queen.
  • Stout Strength: Claims that all his fat is actually muscle. Considering he is able to send Luffy tumbling by flinging his elongated arm away, it may even count for Super-Strength. It even extends to this Devil Fruit Power — a Brachiosaurus, which is very bulky but strong.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Despite his eccentricity, Queen is shocked by his subordinates' idiocy. When he's told that Luffy is in the process of escaping, and the guards aren't doing anything to catch him due to greeting Queen, he yells at them to catch him immediately. Later on, he seems pretty amused that the rest of the Animal Kingdom Pirates actually think that most of them have any chance against Luffy. Then he decides to grab the Idiot Ball himself when he opts to scrap with Big Mom, despite being told that it was a horrible idea and that he would be better off running.
  • Synthetic Plague: Queen manufactured several specific plagues by himself, hence his title as "The Plague", and is willing to use them through his Plague Rounds. So far he has shown two types: Mummy (a virus which makes the victim too feverish and weak to move while also drying them up, making them looking like a mummy) and Ice Demon (which turns the victim into a feral, incredibly cold oni like monster who attacks and infects others).
  • Tattooed Crook: He's one of the highest-ranking underlings to one of the four most wanted pirates in the world, and has his name and his captain's jolly roger embedded on his right arm.
  • Teeth Flying: While fighting Chopper, Queen pulls out some metallic fangs to bite him and end the fight quickly, but Sanji intervenes and kicks Queen in the face, sending most of his teeth flying.
  • This Cannot Be!: Queen is very proud of his Ice Oni virus and considers it his magnum opus. When he unleashes it during the Onigashima War, the virus creates havoc and turns everyone into ferocious ice demons that attack everyone, until Chopper, whom Queen considers a second rate doctor, manages to find a cure for everyone, making Queen completely shocked that someone has counter-acted his best creation.
  • Token Human: Queen is the only human among the Lead Performers, as Jack is a Fish-Man while King hails from another species. That said, Queen's also a cyborg.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Queen loves Oshiruko; he eats it while he watches the Sumo Inferno match and claims to have taken a huge amount of it with him to the prison. After learning Luffy and Hyogoro have eaten all of his Oshiruko, Queen's mood worsens and, once Big Mom starts threatening to eat it as well, he throws all self-preservation to the wind and attacks her. Since it's a typical dessert, it also counts as Sweet Tooth.
  • Unknown Rival: One of the reasons Queen takes his duel against Sanji so seriously and keeps on demanding that Sanji use his raid suit is because he wants to prove his technology is superior to Judge's. There is no indication Judge is even aware of any sort of rivalry between himself and Queen.
  • Unusual Weapon Mounting: When Marco flies toward the roof of Kaido's palace, Queen, transformed into a Brachiosaurus, tries to stop him with a set of concealed guns in his mouth.
  • Use Your Head: His special attack, Brachio Bomber, consist of him dive-bombing an enemy from above head-first while in animal form. Since he has a longer and sturdier neck coupled with a thick skull, it's an incredible technique which manages to cure Big Mom of her amnesia.
  • Villain Ball: After showing off his copied Germa techniques, Queen takes his eyes away from Sanji for a moment in their fight to focus on a Geisha he's mad at for rejecting him. It gives Sanji the opening he needs to land several devastating series of kicks on Queen to end the fight. Trying to hurt a woman in front of Sanji also only pisses him off more.
  • Villain Respect: Actually shows an amused respect of Luffy's gusto and open defiance upon first meeting him, even offering to ask Kaido to personally pardon his crimes if he joins the Animal Kingdom Pirates.
  • Villain Song: Queen takes the 'Lead Performer' concept literally and performs for the Animal Kingdom Pirates, singing a song to hype them up.
  • Victory by Endurance: Chopper tries to fight him in his Monster Point form and does gets some hits off on him. But Queen's hide is too tough in his dinosaur form to do any lasting damage and Chopper soon start tiring. Queen reveals he was just playing with him until he wore himself out before going to counter-attack him.
  • Wild Take: He does three extremely comical reactions in a row, when Babanuki lists the problems in the prison mine, one for each of the problems. He has another one when he sees that Luffy and Hyo, overnight, ate through his entire Oshiruko reserve.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Queen takes sadistic pleasure in violently attacking his new favorite courtesan, Osome, while he's invisible, all for turning down his summons. This action truly pisses off Sanji, who reiterates with a neverending storm of kicks.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: The Ice Oni virus, which Queen calls his masterpiece, is a Plague Round that turns people into highly aggressive ice demons, whose bites can spread the infection further.

"Speak... peacefully? I refuse."
-Chapter 808

A giant grouper fish-man and the first of the Lead Performers to be introduced, Jack is a man known for his savagery and recklessness. He is in charge of the Kuri region of Wano Country. He has eaten the Elephant-Elephant Fruit (Zou Zou no Mi), Model: Mammoth, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a mammoth.

He has a bounty of 1,000,000,000 berries, notably the first bounty exceeding nine digits to be revealed in the series.

  • Adaptation Expansion: The anime shows his fight with Shutenmaru in greater detail, where Jack pushes back the samurai with Razor Winds and delivers multiple cuts to him before Kaido pops up.
  • And I Must Scream: Because Jack is a fish-man, he is conscious underwater but, as a Devil Fruit user, is completely immobile. So, following his ships' attack on Zunesha, he is simply alive and paralyzed down there with no way out by himself. He is later rescued and reappears in Wano.
  • Animal Motif: Mammoths. Aside from his Devil Fruit power, it also shows in the name and figurehead of his ship, and in his physical appearance.
  • Apparently Human Merfolk: He is enormous, has shark-like teeth, and is shown very much alive on the ocean floor, but unlike most other Fish-men, his colouration is quite human and he is comparatively quite human looking, save for his teeth, which he normally keeps concealed.
  • Arc Villain: He is the main antagonist of the Zou Arc, even though he does not come into contact with and fight the Straw Hat Pirates, and is one-shotted by Zunesha.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Jack wears a brown fur jacket and a pair of long tusks that hang around his neck which hints at his ability to become a mammoth.
  • Ax-Crazy: To an almost suicidal degree. He is a man who can't be reasoned with unless you want to be smashed by a mammoth trunk and mainly does all the damage he does to the Mink's kingdom because he enjoys destroying things.
  • Bad Boss: Subverted. His insatiable lust for violence leads him to order his crew into situations that they would have been better off avoiding and his subordinates have been put on edge by his explosive temper before, but they're also every bit as bloodthirsty and battle-crazed as he is and have no problem following him, even when the fight is one that he didn't need to start.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Despite his fearsome behavior during the Zou arc, when Jack returns to Wano, he is shown to be mistreated and not respected by the other top members of his crew. He is forced to bear his captain Kaido's drunken episodes, and around his fellow Disasters, King and Queen, he can do little but mumble in response to their bullying.
  • Big Little Brother: Standing over eight-hundred centimeters tall, Jack is the largest among the Lead Performers, but he's also the youngest and submissively refers to King and Queen as "Big Brother."
  • Blood Knight: As he says himself, Jack loves to bring destruction. However, he doesn't like when the fight lasts too long.
  • Braids of Barbarism: He has two long strands of braided hair that dangle from his sides which shows how he's a person who can't be reasoned with. Said braids remains in his mammoth form.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Jack has a habit of picking incredibly difficult fights, even if he doesn't have to. In his debut, Jack is about to attack the prison convoy taking Doflamingo to Impel Down, which is guarded by an Admiral, a retired Fleet Admiral, and several Vice-Admirals. Predictably, in his next appearance Jack has failed to free Doflamingo. Before even that, he waged war on the Mink Tribe, even when they offered to let him peacefully search their homes for what he wanted, although the Minks were playing him for a punk due to hiding Raizo the whole time. The Minks were so tough that eventually Jack had to use a gas weapon from Caesar Clown to break the stalemate. After being beaten by the Admirals, Jack decides to kill Zunesha the elephant itself to wipe out the Minks. As it turns out, antagonizing an elephant so large that the people living on it are like ants is a really, really bad idea.
  • Characterization Marches On: During Zou, Jack is depicted as little more than a violent thug, whose defeat is the result of his own rashness. After his return to Wano, Jack becomes more submissive and rational, and seems to be somewhat of an Only Sane Man among the Animal Kingdom Pirates. It can simply be that he is more reasonable than a drunken Kaido, though, and there is also a chance that the whole Zou affair taught him a lot about being less impulsive and making better choices.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: A flashback shows him personally torturing a Mink for information, and in the wake of his rampage there are dozens of torture racks set up across Zou.
  • Combat Pragmatist: What does he do when the Mink Tribe are tougher than he thought? Use one of Caesar's poison gas weapons on them.
  • Cool Sword: He wields two swords that are almost helical, similar to a mammoth's tusks, not unlike a weapon known as a shotel. The sheaths for these swords even look like tusks at first glance. He uses these swords to lop off Cat Viper's arm and Dogstorm's leg while he's torturing them.
  • Cruel Elephant: Jack is a vicious, cruel, and short-tempered brute with a mammoth transformation, and is also notorious for being completely impossible to reason or bargain with.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Jack might be a man with a billion bounty on his head, but there is not much he can do against an island-sized elephant. It ends with Zunesha sinking his entire fleet with a single trunk swing. Similarly in Onigashima, he puts up a strong stand, but Cat Viper and Dogstorm completely beat him in their Sulong forms, although Kaido comments that Jack also had to hold off the Mink warriors.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Jack is very sarcastic and abrasive towards his crew members, such as calling his lookout a dumbass for pointing out the blatantly obvious fact that a several mile high elephant is in view.
  • Determinator: Jack is described as a man who cannot be reasoned with, at all: when he sets a goal, there is no amount of convincing or unforeseen factors that's going to keep him from doing what he sets out to do. When he's assaulting Zou, merely attempting to bargain with Jack only makes him angrier. During the war at Onigashima, despite being heavily injured after a tough battle against Dogstorm and Catviper in their sulong form, Jack tries to keep on fighting, until Kaido orders him to rest and treat his injuries.
  • The Dreaded: Jack is renowned for his brutality, ruthlessness, complete unwillingness to bargain or compromise, and the absolutely incredible amount of destruction that follows him.
  • Dual Wielding: Jack fights with two curved swords, similar to mammoth tusks, and can fight on par with Duke Dogstorm and Catviper while the latter two are able to sleep between every round, and Shutenmaru, one of Wano's strongest samurai.
  • Family-Unfriendly Violence: Jack is mercilessly violent and absolutely savages the Mink civilization on Zou to the point of bringing it to near total oblivion. After sending waves of men to level the city, he uses a chemical weapon to incapacitate the remaining fighters before having the Mink leaders dragged out to a public square, where they're crucified and dismembered for information.
  • Fish People: Although he lacks many attributes that distinguish a fish-man, such as having the skin of unnatural color or webbed hands, Jack is a giant grouper fishman, whose only hint of his race being the fangs in his mouth. Being a fish-man helps him survive in the bottom of the sea when Zou sinks his fleet and, more importantly, to find the Road Poneglyph amidst the flooded remnants of the old Wano.
  • Fisher King: When Luffy and Zoro come to Kuri, they find a barren wasteland of dead land and the long dried carcasses of animals. Some time later it is revealed that Jack rules over Kuri. Considering his title as "The Drought", as well as his actions in Zou, this makes the horrible state of Kuri understandable.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He is notoriously ill-tempered and quick to anger and extremely prone to violence.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Due to his stubborness, Jack doesn't hesitate to fight enemies way too strong for him. This is the only reason why he fails to bail Doflamingo out; Jack assaults a ship with an Admiral, an ex-Fleet Admiral, and three Vice-Admirals on board, something that only a small handful of people in the One Piece world can take on with reasonable expectation of success. Jack doesn't have one and doesn't care, the result is very predictable. The same happens during his assault on Zunesha, an elephant so large it has an island on its back. Jack expects the giant elephant to remain still as it's attacked at the legs but thanks to Momonosuke's order, Zunesha counterattacks and sinks Jack's entire fleet with a swing of its trunk.
  • Horns of Villainy: He possesses a set of fake horns akin to Kaido's making clear he's associated with him and that he's extremely devoted to his captain.
  • Insane Equals Violent: The two words that people have consistently used to describe Jack are 'insane' and 'monster'.
  • The Juggernaut: Jack is monstrously powerful and durable and possesses seemingly inexhaustible stamina. His patience is exhaustible, though — which is what the Minks try to exploit while fighting him, however it only makes Jack bored and he decides to end the conflict quickly with a deadly gas. It takes multiple beatings from the Minks in their Sulong forms to weaken Jack, and he comes close to finishing off Dogstorm before the latter defeats him for good with a little fortune and a Sulong-powered attack.
  • Lantern Jaw of Justice: Jack wears a mask that covers the bottom half of his face which resembles such a jaw but he's far from just and, instead, it makes him look more like the brute he is.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • After returning to Zou and trying to kill Zunesha, Jack and his fleet are sunk by the same elephant they tried to kill when Momonosuke orders the giant elephant to attack.
    • At Zou, he fights Dogstorm and Cat Viper at different times of the day which results in him crippling the two after using a poison gas bomb on their home. During the Onigashima war, Jack fights Dogstorm whodelivers the final blow with a sword that replaces the leg cut off by Jack himself.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: His response to learning that the fleet escorting Doflamingo to Impel Down has Fujitora and Sengoku (among others) in its ranks? Umbrage at the mere thought of someone thinking that that would be enough to deter him followed by a headlong charge towards the fleet. Predictably, he loses.
  • Made of Iron: Jack fights one-on-one for FIVE days straight against the two strongest warriors (and the rulers) of the Mink Tribe — one of which Luffy himself praises for his strength — who alternate every 12 hours to keep themselves fresh in their fight. Eventually, Jack calls in a poison gas attack not because he was in any danger of being defeated, but because he was simply losing his patience. His reappearance in the present shows that it takes no less than an Admiral-level opponent (and a skilled swordsman) to even injure him, and while he clearly received one hell of a beating and isn't in great shape, he is also not crippled by any means. Even after having his fleet pulverised by Zunesha, he is shown at the bottom of the sea — paralysed, but still alive. Later in the battle of Onigashima, Jack defeats many of the Sulong-form Minks but is brought down by Dogstorm and Cat Viper. Kaido sends him back down to recuperate, and after a little while, Jack is back on his feet, wanting to finish off the Akazaya.
  • Mad Eye: Jack has bloodshot eyes with tiny irises, even when in mammoth form, giving a visual clue that he's not someone who can be reasoned with. The anime adds a bit of a twitch to them at times.
  • Nerves of Steel: When informed that the prison ship they're after has an Admiral and retired Fleet Admiral on it, he almost seems insulted at the thought that it would make him change his plans to attack it. It doesn't end well for him...
  • Never Found the Body: Wanda mentions that his obituary is in the paper saying he's been defeated during his raid on Doflamingo's prison ship. However, since the body is never found, Wanda believes he is still alive. She is later proven right, as he later appears alive (though not in great shape), ripping said obituary.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: He may be incredibly impulsive and reckless, but he does not mess around. Give him what he wants when he wants it or he will make good on his threats.
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: He wears nothing underneath his fur coat, showcasing his massive upper body.
  • Not Hyperbole: While "negotiating" with the Minks, Jack threatens to destroy an entire city if they don't bring him Raizo. The Minks call his buff and Jack actually follows up on his threat.
  • Offing the Annoyance: Being reasoned with is practically his Berserk Button, such that he'll quickly resort to violence when someone tries to talk him down.
Jack: I didn't come here to talk.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Many of Jack's feats are not shown in the manga, but are usually implied in the story by showing the aftermath and sometimes the beginning.
    • When Jack faces off against Dogstorm and Cat Viper for five days as they keep replacing each other each 12 hours during his invasion of Zou. Jack doesn't rest once while the two Mink rulers keep switching. The sheer length of the battle makes it amazing but, naturally, only tiny bits are shown until Jack decides to end the fight with a deadly gassing.
    • Jack attacks a convoy of ships in an attempt to free Doflamingo, said convoy includes a vast number of Marines, among which there are three of the more powerful ones: Admiral Issho, former Fleet Admiral Sengoku, and seasoned Vice-Admiral Tsuru. After the failed attempt, Jack is presumed dead by the world, while he's actually only injured.
    • During the raid at Onigashima, while defending Kaido from an attack by a host of Sulong empowered Minks, Jack faces the retribution of Dogstorm and Cat Viper, both of whom are in Sulong form as well. Unlike their previous battle, Jack gets defeated quickly by the Mink rulers but the sheer carnage he inflicted with his force of Gifters, leaves the Minks, sans their two leaders, so beaten they cannot continue fighting. Kaido compliments his underling for his feat and tells him to rest so that he can fight later.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Along with a collective one with his crew when Zunesha, the elephant that carries Zou, turns to his fleet and rears its trunk up ready to strike them. Granted, he doesn't panic like his crew does, but he knows there is no way he's going to be able to fight that.
    • During his sole battle with Dogstorm on Onigashima, he manages to gain the advantage over him due to the clouds covering the moon thanks to Kaido's dragon power. Before he can finish him off though, the clouds are parted due to Luffy and Kaido clashing with their Conqueror's Haki and uncovers the moon. Jack has a split second to be shocked at this before Dogstorm regains his Sulong form and defeats him for good.
  • Only Sane Man: He undergoes some mild character development before he reappears in Wano. He is much more stable and acts with a calm head throughout, something he hadn't been much capable of beforehand. It especially shows when interacting with a drunk Kaido, who Jack is forced to be a voice of reason to when he tries to destroy Okobore Town, where many of their factory workers reside.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: Unlike most Zoan hybrid forms, Jack's isn't bipedal. Rather, while his upper body remains humanoid, from the waist down he remains entirely a mammoth, with all four legs, allowing him to stampede forward at full power while wielding his blades.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: During the story, Jack suffers many defeats, including his humiliation by Zunesha, his failure to free Doflamingo and his loss to Dogstorm in Wano. However, said losses aren't because Jack is weak, but because his opponents are among the strongest fighters of the wrold.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Kaido shows up drunkenly flying over Okobore Town, Jack is greatly concerned about the danger he poses to the citizens... Because they're the workforce of the factories.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: The newspapers reports his death in his clash against Issho and Sengoku, only for him to appear alive and incensed at his reported demise. He's definitely not in very good shape after it, but he did survive the clash with the Admiral and retired Fleet Admiral.
  • Sadist: Has admitted that he has no good reason for doing most of the destruction he does and pain he inflicts; he just really enjoys wanton destruction, mass murder, and brutally torturing captives.
  • Scary Teeth: When Zunesha smashes his ship, his mask breaks, revealing a set of pointed teeth, a trait that hints at his status as a Fish-man.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Spends a while at the sea floor, unable to move due to being a Devil Fruit user but apparently having no problem with breathing. He is eventually rescued off-screen and returned to Wano.
  • Sinister Schnoz: His mammoth form takes this trope up a notch, actually weaponizing his massive trunk.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: Despite his awful temper and incredible penchant for violence, he tends to speak in an even, almost calm tone to his enemies. He even apologizes for his crew's mouthiness.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His fur coat is adorned with spikes, giving him a brutal appearance just like his personality.
  • Straight Man: Jack is far from intelligent or reasonable, but compared to his perpetually drunk captain, he is far more rational and tries to prevent him from going into a drunken-induced destruction of a town.
  • Stupid Evil: Jack's insatiable bloodthirst and blind faith in his (admittedly impressive) strength lead him to make one terrible decision after another. Right off the bat, when he approaches the Minks demanding Raizo, their offers to help him in his search are met with swift, immediate violence. The possibility that the Minks were hiding Raizo and lying to him hadn't even been suggested yet, although the fact that one of the Akazaya Nine was The Mole all along and leaked information about the rest of them shaves some edges.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Like every Devil Fruit user, Jack can't swim. However, he survives being stuck on the bottom of the ocean, due to being a Fish-man, and reappears in Wano.
  • Talk to the Fist: As an old monkey Mink is calmly telling Jack that he needs to hear the Minks out, Jack responds by smashing his trunk into the Mink crowd before he can even finish his sentence and coldly says they didn't come to talk.
  • Tempting Fate: Jack fights Dogstorm in Sulong form by himself in the latter portion of the Onigashima battle. Due to Kaido's dragon power making clouds, it covers the moon causing Dogstorm's Sulong form to disengage. Jack comments that if Dogstorm got one more hit in, he would've beat him. Shortly after, Luffy and Kaido clash with their Conqueror's Haki which splits the clouds and uncover the moon. Dogstorm quickly regains his Sulong form and proceeds to strike Jack down just as he predicted.
  • Tiny-Headed Behemoth: His head is extremely small compared to the rest of his enormous body, which hints at his preference to use violence and raw strength instead of wits and strategy.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: An example of it not being Played for Laughs. Despite having an unassuming name, Jack (which is later revealed to be a title), what we know about him so far paints him as an extremely vicious and ruthless man.
  • The Unfettered: Absolutely impossible to reason with and will stop at nothing and refuse no measure to accomplish his goals. He doesn't know or care what you want to tell him, he just wants to get his job done and doesn't really care about how he does it so long as he gets a chance to smash things and kill people.
  • Undying Loyalty: Jack is rivaled only by King for Kaido's most loyal subordinate. When the latter flies on top of Onigashima, Jack quickly follows him with a small army to help his captain. Even as he's lying completely battered, with a broken tusk, from Cat Viper and Dogstorm's beatdown of him in their Sulong forms, Jack still apologizes to Kaido for not doing enough. Kaido acknowledges his loyalty.
  • The Unfought: In the Zou Arc, Luffy and the Straw Hats never actually fight him, as Zunesha curbstomps him and leaves him incapacitated in the ocean floor.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Whereas King mixes a pragmatic mindset and pyrokinesis with his Pteranodon powers, and Queen is a genius in chemical warfare and cybernetics alongside his Brachiosaurus abilities, Jack shows no other strategy than crushing his opponents with sheer force. He either smashes them in his Mammoth form or tries to carve them up with his blades. Tellingly, he is the only Lead Performer without named attacks.
  • Victory by Endurance: His battle with the Mink tribe lasted for five days, and though they eventually wore down his crew, they were unable to contain Jack himself. This allowed him to use one of Caesar's Deadly Gas weapons, which won him the fight.
  • Villain Has a Point: While he inflicted a terrible torture on the minks, whether it was his instinct or just pure guessing, although later revealed that Kanjuro gave Orochi the information, Jack was right that the Minks were hiding Raizo on the island and lying about their denying of seeing him.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Jack ate a Zoan Devil Fruit that can turn him into a massive mammoth.
  • Walking Wasteland: The explanation behind his epithet. Jack's sheer destructive power renders anywhere he rampages like a massive drought was there.
  • War Elephants: As revealed in Wanda's story about his attack on Zou, Jack ate a Devil Fruit that makes him a literal example of this (or at least, close enough as his Devil Fruit makes him a Mammoth), and initially fights the minks in his animal form, until Catviper flips him by grabbing his trunk.
  • The Worf Effect: A rather unconventional application of the trope. After unleashing untold amount of devastation on the Minks and establishing himself as someone to not be messed with, we get to see his two crushing defeats in a row. But the fact it took sheer overwhelming force both times to bring him down, and yet that's still not enough to permanently put him out of the picture only speaks volumes on his threat level. Played straight during Wano Arc, where the local Master Thief, Shutenmaru, deals a gashing wound that leaves him flinching in pain and shattering one of his shotels with only one slash.
  • Worthy Opponent: He considers Cat Viper and his Guardians "true warriors".
  • You Have Failed Me: Jack does not take well to Sheepshead coming back to him insisting Raizou isn't on Zou, stringing the man up as punishment for coming back with that excuse.
  • Younger Than They Look: Jack is revealed in the Vivre Card Visual Dictionary to only be 28 years old, making him one of the youngest commanders within any Emperor crew. Oden's flashback seemingly backs this up, as Jack is noticeably absent from major battles that both King and Queen participated in 20 years ago.
