"I'm one of Mama's "favorites" you know? She especially loves how good I am at acting."

The 35th daughter and 76th child of the Charlotte Family and a human-Three Eyed hybrid. She's Sanji's intended bride-to-be, their union meant to seal an alliance between the Vinsmoke Family and the Charlotte Family. She works as a chocolatier and cafe owner and has eaten the Memo-Memo Fruit (Memo Memo no Mi), a Paramecia that allows her to view and manipulate other peoples' memories.

    A-H
  • Act of True Love: Despite not wanting to let Sanji go, Pudding knows how much he wants to be with his crew and lets him go even if it means she may never see him again, but not before giving him a farewell kiss and removing the memories of it.
  • Adaptational Curves: While she already has an Impossible Hourglass Figure in the manga, she's still noticeably buxomer in the anime.
  • Adaptation Expansion: In the anime, when Daifuku appears to kill Sanji himself, Pudding runs to him, almost getting steamrolled by her brother's Majin in the process, and begs him for a second chance.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: In an expansion of her flashback, Pudding remembers Lola patting her on the head and assuring her that she'll be alright before running away from home.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Because of her third eye, Pudding was treated as an outsider by the other children, plus her own mother.
  • Always Someone Better: Chapter 879 revealed that Pudding always saw her older sister, Lola, as the better chocolatier of the two. So much that she kept refusing the family's expectations for her to take over as Minister of Chocolatown after Lola ran away from a political marriage, hoping that Lola will come back and reclaim her former position one day, even though Lola's current Black Sheep status makes it completely unlikely.
  • Apologises a Lot:
    • After hearing of the Vinsmokes' horrendous treatment of Sanji and how he was "persuaded" into marrying Pudding, Pudding switches between being horrified, crying, and apologizing for inconveniencing him. However, it was all an act at the time and she didn't care about him at all. To add insult to injury, she even mocked how he fell for her crocodile tears later on.
    • Ironically, by the time Sanji has forgiven her completely and is ready to part ways amicably, Pudding causes herself immense distress by being unable to apologize to him genuinely (due to her mental issues preventing her from properly expressing her emotions).
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: She owns a powerful revolver with special bullets that can pierce the hardened body of Super-Soldier Vinsmoke Reiju.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Sanji throws her one as she tries (and fails) to shoot him, leading to a Heel–Face Turn later on.
Pudding: I've fooled plenty of people before, just like this!!!
    Sanji: Even yourself, Pudding?
[Pudding tears up as she gasps in shock]
  • Arranged Marriage: With Sanji. Both would've liked it if it didn't mean tearing Sanji away from the Straw Hat pirates and his dream of finding the All Blue. And both would've liked it if Pudding hadn't snapped as a kid and become a bitter, angry, manipulative Bitch in Sheep's Clothing sent by Big Mom to lure Sanji and his family into an alliance that was a complete farce to begin with, so Big Mom can wipe them out Red Wedding-style. Ironically though, she does end up falling for him only after their "engagement" inevitably falls apart.
  • Ax-Crazy: Her true personality. She's a sadistic psychopath much like her mother, and she takes great joy in fooling the Straw Hats and telling them to their faces that they're going to die. She also shot Reiju with an armor-piercing bullet, which caused Reiju to bleed profusely from her legs, and then messed with Reiju's memories to get away with it. And while she does go good for real later on, she's clearly still very mentally ill.
  • Bait the Dog: Ultimately subverted. She was introduced as a seemingly nice girl who genuinely had Sanji's interests in mind, only to reveal her cruel and sadistic nature later on. Then, after that, some kind words from Sanji cause her to actually become that sweet, caring girl he met at first (albeit one with an evil Split Personality constantly at odds with her new self).
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: She's among the few of Big Mom's many children that look conventionally pretty and as such she's more morally upright than many of her siblings. This is subverted for a while when she turns out to have been faking her good girl persona, but eventually, this is played straight once again when Sanji's kindness brings out Pudding's good side for real.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Sanji's comment about her third eye being "beautiful" moves her to the point where she madly falls in love with him and decides to pull a Heel–Face Turn. In general, because she had been treated like shit all her life, hearing nice things and/or receiving genuine kindness from Sanji makes her feel incredibly moved to the point of tears, and makes her switch from "evil" Pudding to "good and willing to help" Pudding instantly... all while acting madly in love, of course.
  • Becoming the Mask: Once Sanji calls her Third Eye beautiful, Pudding stops taking him for granted, because he complimented her on something she really cared about and nobody had ever appreciated before. Her personality changes to become truly kind (though she still struggles with her evil self trying to take over again.)
  • Believing Their Own Lies: As she tried (and failed at) shooting Sanji, she shouts that this is the real her and she deceived countless people before him. Sanji accuses her of having been fooled by her master acting herself, and it seems to be true, as it shocked her to the point of rethinking her actions and later betraying her own family to help the Straw Hats.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Just like her groom-to-be, her button is wasting food. She gets angry that her chocolate building wasn't completely eaten rather than the fact that Luffy and Chopper were basically causing property damage.
    • She also has another one... one that she shows with her genuine personality. She really doesn't like people being perverted towards her, being overcome with rage and the desire to kill Sanji on the spot when he has a Nosebleed while talking to her. However, this is ultimately subverted later on; once she actually comes to like Sanji, she returns his pervy affections by falling over with nosebleeds and hearts in her eyes herself!
    • The biggest one, though? Calling her Third Eye hideous. After one mocking too many, it becomes her "kill horribly" button. When Sanji becomes the first person to call her third eye "beautiful", it shocks her so much that she's reduced to genuine Broken Tears.
  • Berserker Tears: Mixed with Broken Tears; she cries in rage as she snaps and lashes out at her childhood bullies.
  • Big Brother Worship: Gender-inverted; she looked up to her older sister Lola, and believed she made a better Minister than she would. Of course, her mother and many of her other siblings don't see the same as her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She was initially pretending to be nice. In truth, after reaching her breaking point, she became as Ax-Crazy as most of her older/younger siblings. Luckily though, she wasn't as far gone as them and managed to pull a Heel–Face Turn with Sanji's help.
  • Blatant Lies: After pulling a Heel–Face Turn and developing a Split Personality, she evidently lost her ability to lie convincingly. Upon reaching the Straw Hats with Chiffon, her "evil Pudding" persona claims aloud that she "just so happened to coincidentally" be in the same area as the Straw Hats and it "just so happens" that she's going to make a cake that "just so happens" to be the type that will stop Big Mom — but she's not doing it to help them, dammit! It's not like she doesn't want Sanji to die, or anything!
  • Broken Bird: As of Chapter 862, she's revealed to be this. A disastrous childhood combination of her mother and strangers alike calling her Third Eye freakish made her snap and become the monster they all called her. Sanji calling her third eye beautiful affects her so much that she collapses in tears.
  • Broken Tears:
    • The result of Sanji being the first-ever to compliment her third-eye. Also part of her Villainous Breakdown.
    • Child!Pudding cries a combination of this and Berserker Tears after she snaps from the vicious bullying she received.
    • She later sheds these again in Chapter 902, when faced with the possibility that she will never see her beloved Sanji again.
  • Cain and Abel: Subverted with her relationships with her older sisters, Lola and Chiffon. Chiffon mentions that she and Pudding used to bake cakes together, and Pudding admires Lola to the point that she constantly refuses to succeed the latter as Minister of Cacao Island after Lola ran away, because she thinks Lola is a better Minister than she.
  • Characterization Marches On: She looked rather uncomfortable and perhaps fearful of Big Mom as she ate her subordinates in her early appearance in the Fish-Man Island arc, which seems to contradict her later characterization as a violent psychopath who enjoys working for her mom. 862, however, shows that Big Mom used to verbally/emotionally abuse her when she was young, coupled with how she's aware that Big Mom's "love" of her is limited to how useful she is, it looks like the fear was genuine.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Her third eye itself, considering that Sanji calling it beautiful is what triggers her tearful breakdown.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: She's is the three-eyed girl sitting next to Big Mom in Chapter 651. She keeps her Third Eye hidden when she is properly introduced and only reveals it when she shows her true nature.
  • Consummate Liar: She's an expert actor and was quite a snake when introduced, successfully fooling the Straw Hats and Vinsmokes into believing she was a good person. She's so good that, during the wedding, Sanji starts to question himself if perhaps what he saw earlier was all just a bad dream or his imagination. Eventually though, this is turned on it's head when she falls for Sanji and develops a Split Personality; her evil persona instead starts telling Blatant Lies even as Pudding herself continues to help the Straw Hats out.
    • In fact, she was so good of a liar she was able to deceive her in her being a rotten person who enjoys rotten things. Sanji's Armor-Piercing Question seems to prove it and that deep down, she was not able to lie to herself anymore.
  • Creepy Child: When little Pudding snapped after all the abuse, she stabbed one of her bullies with a knife with a Slasher Smile and angry tears falling from her three eyes.
  • Crocodile Tears: At first glance, she looks like a normal human who cries like the rest of us, but if she's only crying from two eyes, then you know it's disgenuine. It's all part of her act to appear normal without revealing the existence of her Third Eye; when she cries from all three eyes, the tears are real. Unfortunately, Sanji doesn't know about the eye and takes her tears for face value. It isn't until he discovers this eye that he calls it beautiful, Pudding cries out of it, and Sanji realizes she isn't faking the tears this time.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: During her Villainous Breakdown after Sanji tells her that her Third Eye is beautiful, a Troubled Backstory Flashback shows that Pudding's past wasn't exactly easy. Big Mom may have wanted the powers of said Third Eye but she told her to hide it under her bangs because it looks weird. Plus adults called her a monster and she was bullied by other children for her eye until she snapped on them with a knife.
  • Defiant Captive: Although she's eventually kidnapped by the Blackbeard Pirates, she confidently says that if her mother is still alive, she'll kick their asses.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In a flashback to her Dark and Troubled Past, she was bullied so much that she lashed out at her childhood tormentors with a knife in an extreme fit of rage. This was what marked her Start of Darkness and deep descent into evil Broken Bird territory. The same can be said towards Big Mom. Having been abused by her mother her whole life and fallen in love with Sanji caused Pudding to defy her mother and assist the Straw Hats escape the island and humiliate Big Mom in the process.
  • Dramatic Unmask: Of a sort. In Chapter 850's unsettling Wham Shot, she reveals her Third Eye that's always kept hidden by her fringe... along with her "true" personality when she says her equally unsettling Wham Line.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even though she had a very tragic Dark and Troubled Past and Freudian Excuse to explain why she became the way she did, she gets off relatively easily for: 1) Pretending to care about Sanji even after his fiance confided all his troubles to her, only to cruelly betray him in the worst possible way, 2) having Sanji's older sister Reiju severely injured to the point of requiring medical attention, and 3) trying to kill him on their wedding day, even after Sanji complimented her "ugly" Third Eye.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • She cares deeply about her sister Lola, taking what's implied to be a moment to cry in solitude when she remembers Lola's departure, and refusing to take over as Minister of Chocolate in the hopes that Lola would come back one day and resume the role.
    • Later on, she falls madly in love with Sanji after he expressed attraction to her third eye, after having everyone (including her own mother) say how freaky it looked on her and being bullied for it for her entire life. When Sanji had to leave with the Straw Hats to flee Big Mom's wrath, she gladly helps him... and then later collapses sobbing with the knowledge that she would never get to see her beloved again.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: She has a major Freak Out when Sanji compliments her third eye as not a single person had ever said anything nice about it and she learned to hate it along with herself. Pudding assumes during the wedding battle Sanji is tricking her like she did to him, but Sanji just states she is deluding herself.
  • Evil Counterpart: She is what Sanji could have turned into had no one been there to support him during his darkest days in the Germa Kingdom. While Sanji had his mother and older sister, Pudding eventually snapped from the pain and became a broken, sadistic monster.
  • Eviler than Thou: She laughs at the notion of the Germa 66 being a "mythical evil army", calling them naive and mocking Reiju about how they have no idea what they're dealing with regarding the Big Mom Pirates.
  • Evil Gloating: Not long after she reveals her deception to Reiju and, inadvertently, Sanji, who's eavesdropping outside her room, she goes on to mock Sanji's declaration of love to her and how pathetic he both looked and sounded while doing so, even making faces just to drive home the point of her cruelty.
  • Expy:
    • Pudding has a third eye. It could be a Shout-Out to Yuzo Takada's 3×3 Eyes, to Tenshinhan from Dragon Ball, or to Hosuke Sharaku from The Three-Eyed One, or possibly even Honoka from The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye.
      • The reveal of her third eye follows the reveal of her real, evil personality. In 3x3 Eyes, the girl's third eye is a separate, more coldly logical personality. Furthermore, both Pai and Pudding make use of non-human familiars, with at least one capable of flight. Pudding's third eye is also a trait of a tribe of people who gain the power to hear the voice of all things when it fully awakens, similar to the elfin race called The Third in the titular series who have a third blue eye known as the Astral Eye and become capable of interfacing with technologies of the old, forgotten world when this eye turns red.
    • Her hair style, the fact she was wearing pink, and the fact her eyes were initially closed also bring to mind Nunnally Lamperouge.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Pudding is actually as evil and psychotic as her mother ("Only my family knows the real me!"); she also has a third eye. However she Used to Be a Sweet Kid before years of bullying and abuse caused her to snap completely. She later pulls a Heel–Face Turn after she falls in love with Sanji and helps the Straw Hats escape Totto Land.
  • Fake Memories: While it's not known if she can create false memories outright, she can falsify other people's memories thanks to her Devil Fruit.
  • Family Theme Naming: Shares this with most of her siblings; she's named after pudding, a dish that is usually a sweet dessert, but can be savory as well.
  • Foil:
    • To Reiju. Both are expert actors who hide their true nature and were at different times Sanji's "ray of hope". Pudding hides her sadistic nature behind an innocent face, while Reiju hides her compassion and empathy behind an aloof, cold-hearted façade. Pudding fooled Sanji into loving her and Reiju had to distance herself from Sanji despite greatly caring for her brother. Pudding is Sanji's false hope and betrayed him at his lowest, Reiju actually rescued Sanji in his darkest day. The contrast is most prominent in Chapter 850, when they meet face to face: Pudding gleefully breaks character by revealing her contempt for Sanji and sadistic nature, while Reiju remains calm and composed "in character". Plus, both were abused by their parents in different ways (Judge modified Reiju so she wouldn't go against him, Big Mom mocked Pudding for her Third Eye and sees her as more of a potential tool than anything else) and said abuse shaped them, with Reiju as a Broken Bird Stepford Smiler and Pudding as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds.
    • Also to her groom-to-be, Sanji. Both were horrifically abused in their childhoods, with Sanji being seen as a weak waste of space by his father and brothers, while Pudding was seen and treated as a monster for having a third eye. But while Sanji had love and support in the form of his (dead) mother and sister, Reiju, Pudding had no one to turn to, and the years of suffering torment alone caused her to become a thoroughly Broken Bird and Jerkass par none. Sanji is still a nice guy underneath his Jerk with a Heart of Gold tendencies, while Pudding wears a sweet and lovable mask to hide the broken nastiness underneath.
    • As of Chapter 893, Pudding becomes a foil to her older brother, Katakuri. Pudding dresses brightly like the majority of her older/younger siblings, while Katakuri looks like a Badass Biker with spikes and threatening tattoos. Pudding acts like a sweet girl but is really insane, sadistic, and broken, while Katakuri looks stoic and badass but behind closed doors is really a goofy glutton who is incredibly insecure about his "flaws". Both Pudding and Katakuri went through hell as children for being born with a physical abnormality that was out of their control, and they reacted to it in different ways — Pudding believed her Third Eye made her a monster, and changed herself to fit everyone's perceptions of her out of self-loathing and spite, but in reality, the extra eye didn't detract from her beauty at all. Katakuri's fanged mouth, however, does uglify him in the eyes of others, and he knows it, so he hid his mouth constantly and slowly built up an image of being a handsome, no-nonsense, and dependable older sibling so he wouldn't go through the same childhood humiliation again... but it's incredibly stressful and had it not been for his "snack times", he would've eventually snapped from the pressure. Their turning points came at the intervention of a Straw Hat; during their farce of a wedding, Sanji complimented Pudding's Third Eye, making her fall head-over-healls for him and turning her into an ally. Luffy saw Katakuri's mouth and sloppy eating habits yet chose to ignore them, which caused Katakuri to respect Luffy as a Worthy Opponent and discard his family's opinion of him to fight Luffy as himself.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • When first seen in the Fishman Island arc, she's shown looking very uncomfortable with Big Mom eating her own crewmates. This is the first hint that she's not as on-board with her mother's plots as she likes to pretend she is.
    • While preparing for her wedding with Sanji, she walks out on the balcony during a downpour and takes the time to remember her runaway older sister, Lola, whom she misses dearly and whose departure affected her. This is a hint that she does have a capacity for love and empathy, but it's buried underneath her cruel, duplicitous nature and childhood trauma over being ostracized for being three-eyed. What's more, shortly after this she goes to Luffy and Nami and quite needlessly brags about deceiving them and her sinister plans, which is a hint to Sanji's later claim that Pudding lies to herself about being heartless. Reminded of past kindness, she sought to play up her supposed evil nature to help bury her true feelings.
  • Freakiness Shame: She apparently keeps her Third Eye hidden at all times, something that she finds shameful to everyone. Because of her Third Eye, she was horribly mocked about it by little kids and her own siblings; even her mom called it "weird" and told her to hide it under her bangs. She eventually came to believe she was a monster too and started acting like one. Part of the plan to assassinate the Vinsmokes was to take advantage of Sanji's expected shock and disgust when he first sees her third eye after lifting her veil to shoot him in the face. Sanji calling her third eye "beautiful" after seeing it up close for the first time causes her to break down in sincere tears.
  • Freudian Excuse: Not only was she raised by the psychopathic Big Mom (who's known to instill horrible values into her children), but she was also viciously bullied as a child for her Third Eye and was driven to insanity, coming to believe that she really was the creepy monstrosity everybody said she was. Having her enemy call her extra eye "beautiful" immediately causes her to suffer a Villainous Breakdown from the conflict of emotions. Having said enemy ask her if she was also deceiving herself helped her Breakdown further
  • Girlish Pigtails: Wearing them in the photo Sanji is shown of her, which is her first appearance. She also wears them in her debut chapter.
  • Good All Along: Sort of. At first, she was genuinely an evil, cruel Jerkass and was only pretending to be nice, appearing to be a case of Evil All Along. But it turns out that there was still a decent, incredibly damaged girl in there deep down, and Sanji manages to bring out her good side for real.
  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: Though she has big, round, Puppy-Dog Eyes whenever she's putting on her Nice Girl act, they become noticeably sharper and more dangerous looking when she's lapsing into her evil personality.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: In a moment of depressive loneliness, Pudding goes out to the balcony of her room while a downpour occurs, and has a Troubled Backstory Flashback of Big Mom treating her like a doll and her sister Lola running away from home. Her Hidden Eyes and forlorn expression as the rain soaks her makes it look like she's crying.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: It's mentioned that she's a half breed of the three-eyed tribe.
  • Hand Cannon: The barrel of her revolver is easily the size of her forearm.
  • Hate Sink: Immediately disliked by both Reiju and Luffy once she reveals who she really is. She loves making fun of Sanji's kindness, situation and faces, and the shocked reactions of the people she tricked. Everything she says and does, once she shows her true colors, makes her thoroughly unlikable. This is subverted later on though as it's revealed that there are good reasons behind her behavior, and she eventually proves her worth to the Straw Hats.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: In the anime, Vinsmoke Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji had heart-shaped eyes at the sight of her while they are having dinner with her mother, Big Mom.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While her intentions are extremely hazy at first due to her Master Actress reputation and ambiguous actions, she later proves that she has indeed turned over a new leaf for real and is determined to help Sanji and his friends. However, what complicates the situation is the fact that she's nuts and keeps involuntarily lapsing back into her evil persona even though she genuinely loves Sanji and wants to help him. It makes for some moments that somehow manage to be both hilarious and sad at the same time.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • A sweet girl twisted by the vicious bullying she received in childhood, which turned her into a duplicitous monster who hates herself so much that she thinks she is completely undeserving of love. This is exemplified in Chapter 902; while making fun of Sanji's wishes to get married, she sadly thinks to herself that no one will ever love a "hideous monster" like her.
    • She genuinely loved her older sister, Lola, with the last time they saw each other being when Lola ran away from home the day before she was set to marry the Giant Prince, Loki. Unlike many of her siblings, who wanted Lola dead for "betraying" Big Mom, she deeply misses Lola and kept waiting for her return, even refusing to replace her sister as Minister of Chocolatown. Story-wise, even before the reveal of her duplicious side, it serves as Foreshadowing that she does have an empathetic side deep down, but it was buried under years of bitterness and pain.
  • Honey Trap: Is sent by Big Mom to attract and marry Sanji so she can lure his family into entering an alliance that is a complete farce to begin with, allowing Big Mom to murder all the Vinsmokes (and the Straw Hats), Red Wedding-style. Unfortunately for Big Mom though, it fails spectacularly when Pudding ends up falling for Sanji herself.
    I-Y
  • Inelegant Blubbering:
    • She cries her heart out, snot bubbles and all, when Sanji shares his woes with her. Turns out she's a great actress and it was all a part of her ploy.
    • She does it again when Sanji calls her Third Eye "beautiful" during the wedding ceremony. The flashbacks that come from this, showing her Dark and Troubled Past, show that this time she's crying for real.
    • While preparing to finally part ways, Sanji essentially breaks her when he tell her that he was still happy to have her as a fiancee even after everything that's happened; she cries her hardest yet and shows the full works — snot bubbles, trembling, drooling, and crying from the third eye and all.
  • Inhuman Eye Concealers: Pudding's bangs shroud her Third Eye from view to prevent anyone from being put off by it. Her mother even urged her to grow her out hair to cover it in disgust!
  • In Love with the Mark: Pudding was expected to kill her groom-to-be, Sanji, as part of Big Mom's plan to kill the Vinsmokes and steal their cloning technology. What she didn't expect was Sanji complimenting her third eye, which everyone kept ridiculing her whole life, and now she's madly in love with him.
  • Insane Equals Violent: Whenever she lapses into her demented "evil Pudding" personality while talking to the Straw Hats, her insanity is typically expressed through threats of violence and death against them.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She is deeply in love with Sanji, but is willing to let him go for the sake of his friends. While this turns out to have simply been a ploy at the time, she later does end up playing this trope straight when she — after really falling for Sanji — decides to help him escape Whole Cake Island alive and safe from her mother rather than being with him.
  • Jerkass: She was quite an arrogant jerk before going through Character Development and a genuine Heel–Face Turn, reveling in tricking people into thinking she was good and indulging in psychopathic behaviors just like her mother. However, Sanji believed that she was fooling herself during this time just as much as she fooled others, and eventually, his kindness and love cause her to have a change of heart. This is somewhat Played With though. because her former persona has manifested as an evil Split Personality that still hurls insults and death threats to the Straw Hats even as the now-good Pudding herself wishes to help them.
  • Just Between You and Me: Twice, with a third indirect example — She tells Luffy about the plan to kill Sanji, the Straw Hats, and the Vinsmoke family, since he's currently trapped in a book prison and can't share the information. She also tells Reiju about the plan, but edits her memories so she won't remember any of it. Lastly, she and Big Mom go over the plan once again, while a captured Brook was in earshot. All three times are justified in that there was no way the truth could have normally leaked out, but unfortunately for her, all three times end up biting her in the ass due to unforeseeable events. Jimbei ends up breaking Luffy out, making him that much more motivated to spoil the event, Sanji happened to be nearby when Pudding confessed to Reiju and overheard the entire plan, and immediately tells her the truth, and the rest of the Straw Hats managed to break Brook out by the skin of their teeth.
  • Kick the Dog:
  • Killer Rabbit: Despite being seemingly harmless, she was able to injure and capture the superhuman Reiju with ease.
  • Kissing Discretion Shot: Though it happens just off-screen from the audiences' point of view, she tearfully kisses Sanji goodbye right before he prepares to leave Whole Cake Island. Unfortunately, however, she uses her powers to erase his memory of the event immediately after it happens.
  • Lack of Empathy: Pudding laughs at her own cruel deception of the Straw Hats and Vinsmokes, which says a lot about her personality considering this is coming after Sanji told her about his family woes (on top of her already knowing firsthand what hardships this marriage was putting him and his crew through). It's later revealed she also was on the receiving end, from her own mother and other children, who discriminated her for her Third Eye, causing Pudding to become a twisted person with deep self-issue problems. Subverted because of her own sense of empathy towards those who suffered as much as her, like Sanji. As soon as she's given a taste of compassion in a way that healed an old wound in her heart, she realized that it was wrong to let cruelty and spite guide her hands, and became an ally of the Straw Hats.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Pudding possesses the power of the Memo-Memo-Fruit, which allows her to alter and remove the memories of her victims, like she does with Reiju, who doesn't remember being shot by Pudding. It's heavily implied Pudding uses her power on Sanji as well, making him forget her.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter:
    • Pudding is a sweet-hearted, beautiful, normal-sized girl who is a chocolatier and a Supreme Chef who greatly contrasts her mother, an insane Big Eater and a huge Gonk. Nami and Brook lampshade how Big Mom was able to birth such a kind person like Pudding. The lampshade may have been foreshadowing. Physically they're different but her real personality shows she became her mother's daughter.
    • Ultimately zigzagged — she's still the kindhearted person she once was, but it's buried underneath thick layers upon layers of anger and resentment as her evil behavior was revealed to be her lashing out at the torment she received in her childhood years. Once Sanji gave her her first compliment, she not only falls madly in love, but she sees the error of her ways and decides to help the Straw Hats escape Big Mom.
  • Living MacGuffin: She's Big Mom's favorite because her third eye will give her the ability to read poneglpyhs, eventually. In theory, anyway. Blackbeard also believes so, and had Kuzan and Van Augur kidnap her as a result.
  • Love at First Sight: Sanji's smooth attitude, similar love for cooking as hers, and charms immediately caused her to fall in love with him. Though as much as she'd like to marry him, she's unwilling to snatch him away from the Straw Hats. However, this is actually subverted; she originally thought little of Sanji and was just going along with her mother's plan to deceive and murder him at their wedding. It's only after he shows her immense kindness about her Third Eye that she realizes his worth and falls in love with him for real.
  • Love Hurts: Pudding goes through his while looking at the memory reel of Sanji sharing a kiss with her, as the Straw Hats escape Totto Land. It makes her realize that she will probably never see Sanji again, and she turns into a sobbing wreck.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Because Sanji was the first person to show her kindness ever, she starts flip-flopping between her "good" and "evil" personalities due to her inner conflict on what to truly feel about him. Because of this, she comes off as a Tsundere who threatens Sanji one minute then falls madly in love with him the moment he says something nice to her.
  • Luminescent Blush: She tends to flush bright red when she talks to or talks about Sanji, both before she fell in love with him and afterward (initially, the blushing was just a part of her acting).
  • Master Actress: She can give the main antagonist of Kämpfer a run for her money in this, and that character is so convincing, the audience suspects she has a split personality disorder of some sort.
  • Meaningful Name: As mentioned above, she's named after a dish that can be either sweet or savory. "Pudding" is also used as a term of endearment, usually between married couples (which is ironic since she and Sanji were in an Arranged Marriage but don't want to get married due to conflict of interests and Pudding doesn't love him at all... at least at first).
  • Memory-Wiping Crew: A one-person example thanks to her Devil Fruit powers. Besides murdering the groom, she was supposed to edit all the memories of those who attended the wedding, so no one will ever know of their plan to murder the Vinsmokes or Pudding's evil behavior.
  • Mood-Swinger: Whenever she switched between her personas before her wedding, she had excellent control over her emotions. Post-Wedding and exposure to Sanji's genuine kindness, her feelings starts acting akin of a child running in a revolving door at full speed. Her mind continuously going in a Tsundere-loop which swifts between swooning, threatening, apologizing, helping and back to threatening again, much to her embarrassment and everyone else's confusion.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: The reason for her behavior: after being bullied one too many times as a child, she snapped and stabbed anyone who'd dare laugh at her for her Third Eye. When Sanji called her third eye "beautiful", she started crying.
  • Nice Girl: Very much so. Unlike her cruel mother, Pudding is an absolute sweetheart. Nami notes she's "far too forgiving" upon meeting her, while Brook wonders if she's really Big Mom's daughter at all... except she isn't nice at all. She's actually one of Big Mom's favourite children, and sadistic enough to feign kindness to the Straw Hats and Sanji just to get them to drop their guard. It works, and she plans to slaughter all of them on her mother's orders. The bits of niceness she did have as a child all but disappeared when she snapped, and even after The Reveal of 862, she's barely beginning to truly get said niceness back, and is still unable to control the resulting mood swings coming from it.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: The only reason that the Straw Hats learned about Big Mom's true intentions for the Vinsmokes is because she ran her mouth more than she needed to. She could simply have edited Reiju's memories without telling her anything while Sanji happened to be in earshot, and she didn't need to confront Luffy and Nami at all once they were captured. This information allowed the Straw Hats, once they regrouped, to seek an alliance with the Firetank Pirates, and together they crashed the wedding party.
  • Nightmare Face: For such a pretty girl, her third eye and creepily satisfied laugh as she reveals her true nature to Reiju makes for a very effective one.
  • Parental Favoritism: She states that she's Big Mom's favorite and spoiled heavily. Though Big Mom seems to only do so because of her third eye and believing that once it opens that it'll lead her to Raftel and be her key to becoming the Pirate King. While Pudding enjoys the perks, she is annoyed by Big Mom constantly asking about if her third eye has awakened its power yet. In Chapter 862, flashbacks show that even Big Mom disdained her third eye and told Pudding to cover it with her bangs — the favoritism only started when Big Mom discovered what Pudding's third eye could do.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: Or it would be if Sanji wasn't so attached to the Straw-Hats. Sanji loves her (natch), she loves him, and she's even a great cook like Sanji, as Luffy and Chopper can attest. They'd really be just about perfect for one another... if only she had not snapped from the shit she went through, and her nice personality wasn't all an act. Ironically, it's only after the engagement inevitably went down the drain that she actually falls in love with Sanji.
  • Personality Powers: While she's already a skillful liar, her power to modify memories just helps her true, duplicitous nature.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: After finally snapping from the abuse, she got her revenge on some bullies as a child by chasing them down and stabbing them with a knife, to their horror. She also clumsily brandishes a knife against the Straw Hats when she first meets them, although at that point, she was still putting on her Nice Girl act and was most likely merely pretending to not know how to handle a knife.
  • The Reveal:
    • In Chapter 850. She reveals to Reiju (and Luffy and Nami via a Flashback) that she's been Evil All Along, was helping her mother manipulate the Straw Hats from the start, and that the alliance with the Vinsmokes is really just a ploy to get them all in one spot and murder them. She also reveals that she has a Third Eye on her forehead.
    • There is another in 862: She was Evil All Along, yes, but she wasn't born evil and had a terrible past because of her Third Eye.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: Her weapon is a very large revolver with special "candy-jacketed bullets" that can even pierce through the hardened body of a Super-Soldier like Reiju. Befitting her royal status, it seems to be pretty advanced for the One Piece world as it appears to lack the usual flintlock mechanic.
  • Royal Brat: Subverted. While her family is rich, insane, and evil, she herself used to be sweet, but then snapped and became evil after the bullying over her third eye became too much. Also, though her mother dotes on her greatly, Pudding actually is tired of her mother's over-protection and excessive spoiling of her, and would rather do things her own way. Her childhood wasn't pleasant at all.
  • Sadist: A Consummate Liar, who doesn't care about anyone and even gets sick of her mother pampering her, she successfully plays off the innocent Nice Girl and enjoys Luffy's reaction when she reveals the truth about herself. She also goes completely out of her way to shoot and then reveal herself to Reiju for no other reason than to torment her.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Played with. After the wedding, the nasty side of her personality tries its damn best to convince everybody (including herself) that she is not in love with Sanji and that they aren't married. The latter is actually true, but everybody who didn't witness the wedding just assume they are indeed married by now, which nasty Pudding doesn't want to happen, except it's obvious that her nice side fancies the idea.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: This trope becomes vital in the Whole Cake Island saga. Initially, she despised her arranged groom, Vinsmoke Sanji, and happily collaborated with her cruel mother, Big Mom, in what was supposed to be a fake wedding that would finish with them killing Sanji and his Big, Screwed-Up Family to take a hold of their wealth and scientific discoveries. Thing is, Sanji just happened to tell Pudding at some point that her Third Eye is really pretty... and Pudding, a very bitter Broken Bird who had gone the Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds way because of said Third Eye, collapsed in tears and couldn't bring herself to kill him. This means, Sanji's well-timed kind words completely undid Big Mom's plan, saved his and his family's lives, and made Pudding genuinely fall in love with him (as much as her severely broken mind allows her).
  • Slasher Smile: Combined with her hidden Third Eye, it makes one hell of a Nightmare Face. Later, we see it again in a flashback, but unlike the former example, it's much more heartbreaking to see.
  • Spanner in the Works: Katakuri foresaw her collapsing instead of killing Sanji, without knowing why. Then Sanji saw her Third Eye for the first time and called it pretty — something not even her own mother found attractive — which touched her so much she broke down crying. And after this, Pudding secretly began to work to help save the Straw Hats from impending doom in earnest.
  • Split Personality: By Chapter 876, it's become apparent that her recent experiences have fractured her mind; after falling in love with Sanji for real, she rapidly goes back and forth between swooning over him and yelling death threats at him — sometimes at the same time! Luckily though, she's still cognizant enough to lend him a hand even as she lapses back into "evil Pudding".
  • Start of Darkness: Her being constantly and viciously bullied for having a Third Eye, something she had no control over.
  • Super-Reflexes: Implied. When Sanji saved Chiffon from Oven, he was specifically moving at such speeds to the point where no one would be able to see him. The fact that Pudding was visibly impressed by this maneuver meant that she was able to see or at least sensed what he did.
  • Supreme Chef: Also like Sanji. Her café is made from a homemade chocolate, and as Luffy and Chopper can testify, it's drop-dead delicious, her skills as a chocolatier make her an acceptable replacement for the runaway Lola as Minister of Chocolatown but Pudding has no intention of taking over and hopes Lola would reclaim it again, thinking she makes a far better Minister than she will. It doubles as Evil Chef since she's loyal to her mother, until Sanji brings out the best of her. Pudding also expresses absolute confidence in her ability to create a cake that it took the Head Chef days to make. And she needs to do it in a matter of hours, if not less, because of Big Mom rampaging on her tail.
  • The Tell: She uses crocodile tears as part of her sweet, innocent girl act, but doesn't cry from her third eye to keep it hidden. When Sanji compliments her third eye, Pudding breaks down and cry from all three of her of eyes, showing that those are geniune tears.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: After being called a monster and bullied one too many times, a very young Pudding went into Creepy Child territory and chased her bullies with a knife. This carried over into adulthood, which is why she became such a sadist. Her case was also so bad that she kept believing herself to be the monster everyone saw her as.... until Sanji makes her realize that isn't true at all.
  • Third Eye: She has three eyes, the third of which is on her forehead. She hid this from the Straw Hats for most of the time using her hair. According to Big Mom, it should help her read the Poneglyphs' content without understanding the language, like how Roger used his mysterious ability of "hearing the voices of all things" to read Poneglyphs. Said third eye is also a great source of self-loathing for Pudding, as everyone around her called it a creepy, monstrous thing.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Once she falls in love with Sanji, she naturally becomes much friendlier and even ends up being an ally to the Straw Hats.
  • Transferable Memory: Thanks to her Devil Fruit, the Memo-Memo Fruit, she can alter people's memories by making them tangible in the form of a film reel, and edit or remove them as she pleases.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: Pudding has one of these as she stands outside on the balcony of her room, remembering how Big Mom treated her like a submissive, obedient doll, and how her beloved older sister Lola bade her goodbye before running away from home. Coincidentally, she's soaked by a downpour of candy rain.
  • Tsundere: Fits the trope to a 'T' after going through a Heel–Face Turn, though in large part due to her Split Personality; while Pudding herself is now deeply in love with Sanji and only wants to help him, her evil persona keeps emerging and causes her to go back and forth between swooning over him, insulting him, and declaring that she wants to kill him while blushing and helping him out at the same time. In Chapter 879, Pudding finds so Sanji's presence so "annoying" that she opted to ride while rolled up in her own flying carpet than sit in the same space as Sanji... but when Sanji makes her promise not to let herself fall, his kindness makes Pudding tear up and fall madly in love with him again.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Her mom is a terrifyingly huge Gonk. She's of normal size and proportions, and extremely pretty even with her supposedly freakish and ugly Third Eye, as Sanji can attest.
  • Undercover as Lovers: Sort of. Thanks to her Devil Fruit giving her the ability to affect memories, she gives the chefs of Cacao Island an edited version of what happened at the wedding (Sanji and Pudding got married, but a freak storm ruined the wedding cake and now Big Mom's mad). This results in the chefs assuming they're officially husband and wife, which allows Sanji and Pudding (and Chiffon) to recreate the wedding cake for Big Mom without interruptions.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: The flashback at 862 shows that Pudding used to be a normal little girl, save for her Third Eye. Then, all the verbal and physical abuse coming from Big Mom, adults, and other kids piled up... and she snapped. Now she's one hell of a Jerkass and a willing accomplice in Big Mom's schemes. Eventually, Sanji brought out her hidden kindness with a single compliment, turning Pudding into the sweet person she once was (for the most part).
  • Villainous Breakdown: Despite everything she's done, Sanji still calls her third eye "beautiful". Having spent her whole life being bullied by others (including Big Mom) for her supposedly "freakish" appearance, Sanji's sincere admiration of her third eye causes her to have a sobbing meltdown on the spot, unable to shoot him.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Even though their exact relationship is hard to determine by the Wano Arc, Pudding shows this tendency when she decks the captured Ninji and Yonji for the bullying they did to Sanji.
  • Walking Spoiler: Everything about her is a lie. Her whole innocent image is crushed with a Wham Shot revealing her third eye and sadistic nature. And then, later, even those perceptions are shaken as it's shown what exactly led her to become such a huge Jerkass (in the form of a Troubled Backstory Flashback, which wouldn't happen if she was lying again), and that she's genuinely moved by Sanji's admiration of her third eye. She also later pulls a Heel–Face Turn and genuinely falls in love with Sanji, adding yet another spoilerific twist to her plotline.
  • Wham Line: She seems to have a penchant for dropping big lines, as she has at least three:
Pudding: "Quit dreaming you fool! Me, marrying that little punk? Never in a billion years!"
Pudding: "What the Hell is that idiot saying?! Are you kidding me?! Never once, ever since the day I was born, not a single time... No one has ever called this eye "beautiful"...!"
Pudding: "What I'm really after isn't anything for Mama or this country. If we don't stop mama as soon as we can... he and his friends are going to be killed!
  • Wham Shot:
    • During her Evil All Along moment, the panel zooms in on her creepy Nightmare Face and her exposed Third Eye, revealing herself as the then-unnamed three-eyed girl sitting with Big Mom in the Fish-Man Island arc. Combined with the aforementioned Wham Line above this trope, it makes the scene as creepy as it sounds.
    • There's another in 862, specifically about how all three of her eyes start tearing, and it shows her crying sincere tears after Sanji called her Third Eye beautiful. It's followed by a flashback of her Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: After Sanji gives her Third Eye its first compliment ever, Pudding collapses sobbing on her knees, desperately trying to convince herself to kill her groom-to-be just like she planned with Big Mom, but is left unable to due to her conflicted emotions. She then tries to compose herself and shoot Sanji directly, but her eyes are still tearing and Sanji keeps questioning about her motives. Eventually, this causes her to develop a Split Personality, with her evil side just as madly in love with Sanji as the good side, but insisting aloud that she hates him. The anime takes it further by having Pudding tearfully yelling at Sanji about her "true" self, yet her hands holding the Candy Revolver are shaking.
  • Wingding Eyes: After falling for Sanji, him calling her beautiful is enough for her to get hearts in all three eyes and start foaming at the mouth with a Luminescent Blush.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: She suffered emotional and verbal abuse at the hands of her mother and scores of other kids as a child due to her Third Eye, which — when combined with Big Mom's dubious "parenting" methods — caused her to become a shallow psychopath by adulthood. Luckily though, Sanji helps her get past this (for the most part).
  • You Have Failed Me: Downplayed; Her brother Daifuku slaps her across the face for failing to kill Sanji and then attempts to get the job done himself.
