    In General
  • 100% Heroism Rating: They're a group of heroes who are absolutely adored by the Denizens of the Infinity Train.
  • Adaptation Name Change: The group went by "Red Lotus Trio" for the majority of Blossoming Trail. While it's initially the same case here, they eventually adopt the name "Red Lotus Uprising" after the events of the Ninjala Car to signify Amelia and Hewie's additions to the team.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: While at the core they're still the same characters from Blossoming Trail, they all have either newer quirks or removed quirks to make them stand out.
    • Both Atticus and Lexi are more firm when it comes to Chloe getting to mature; they admit that while they are her friends, they're also denizens who are there to help ensure her Character Development.
    • Chloe has less spite and anger problems like her original counterpart and her flaws are focused on her fears of returning home to make amends with everyone. She also is a Broken Bird who is essentially bitter of how the bullying has made her unable to have hope in adults, and Goh, because they never noticed she was secretly wishing to kill herself. She later becomes much more energetic and playful, finding herself okay with her love of demons.
    • Atticus has a much more playful side and really gets interested in Chloe and Lexi's love of horror, particularly in his commentary in the Windchasers vs Red Lotus Trio match in the Ninjala Car.
    • Lexi loses his idolization of Chloe and ends up being more of a dorky kid who is flustered being around a princess and has shyness on being fawned over by females (although he gets jealous of other men who get close to Chloe). He also is willing to experiment more with different outfits instead of sticking to the "Specter of the Black Forest" persona he had throughout Acts 1 and 2 of Blossoming Trail.
    • Amelia becomes much more proactive and protective of Hazel, expresses much more guilt for her actions than in Blossoming Trail and she's willing to indulge in karaoke along with having a sense of humor with bad puns.
  • Armed Females, Unarmed Males: Chloe and Amelia have a series of weapons at their disposal, firearms, a shock hammer, and an ice wand for Amelia and a "donut holer" for Chloe, while Lexi uses his natural Denizen abilities and Atticus is more of a Support Party Member.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: The two females of the team, combined with Lampetia, form this trio.
    • Chloe is the Brawn. While she is an adorable fire-cracker with a lot of artistic talents and is a walking encyclopedia of Goetia lore, her main strength is her brutal fighting style with a rusty pipe ("donut holer") and her literal firepower. It says something that the Cyan Desert Car's climatic fight is mostly her doing all the work while a former cyber-terrorist and Shadow look in horror.
    • Amelia is the Brains. As she is a former engineer with know-how on how the Train works, along with a logical mind and lots of tech on hand, she usually acts as the level-headed one of the Uprising.
  • Bifauxnen and Lad-ette: Chloe has tomboyish flairs in her feminine outfits (wearing a top hat and tux along with a skirt, for example) and has an aggressive fighting style with a pipe, along with a love for horror and knowledge of demons. Meanwhile, Amelia is the analytical, pantsuit wearing engineer with a stoic personality and uses the Ice Wand to create construct.
  • Boring, but Practical: In contrast to the Windchasers' arsenal, the Red Lotus Uprising use non-flashy but still useful techniques and skills.
    • Atticus is a corgi king. While he's not as flashy as his bipedal partners, he can use his small size to squeeze into areas the others can't — and with better coordination than Lexi with his own papers — and he's also got the smell and hearing of a regular dog too, making him capable of detecting little things others might miss. And since he's also a ruler of an entire car, he also acts as a negotiator if things start to go south.
    • Lexi can transform into anything he wishes for in his origami form, but nine times out of ten he will either fold his arms into sharp blades, fire a storm of razor-sharp paper knives or consume his opponents with a tsunami of papers which do the same job.
    • Amelia has an Ice Wand that lets her create any type of icy construct she wants. Instead of something elaborate, she will usually create something practical like slopes and walls, especially since you can't get any tougher than a wall of solid ice unless you've got something that can either shatter it or good enough to melt it.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • What exactly keeps the Uprising together? It's Chloe. All of the team cares about her well-being because it's she who brought them together and keeps them focused on a bigger goal to keep pushing towards the Fog Car and coming to terms to their mistakes.
    • "Firefly Funhouse Car" reveals that the initial trio had someone they couldn't forgive. Atticus could never forgive Amelia for hurting Tulip, Lexi will never forgive Grace and Simon for burying him alive and betraying his trust, and Chloe refuses to have Goh make amends for the way he treated her. However, Atticus points out while his and Lexi's targets were unforgivable, Goh has a chance to redeem himself because his actions were never malicious, just the acts of a stubborn child who doesn't know better.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
    • Lexi can't help but coo at some Mirage Pokémon and happily hugs a Mirage Mareep in the hopes to take them home as a nightlight.
    • Amelia gets bombarded by a group of Flemish Giant Rabbits in the Palimpsest Car and can't help but exclaim that they're so fluffy. Apparently she always wanted one of them as a pet when she was younger.
    • When Chloe sees the Snom that Goh caught for her, she calls it cute (which startles Parker as he knows his sister would appreciate something more nightmarish and brings up Goh catching a Grimsnarl).
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Firefly Funhouse Car" is solely dedicated to the original trio, as it takes place some time before Augustine sets foot on the Train.
  • The Defroster: Atticus and Lexi play this for Chloe in "Firefly Funhouse Car" to help her figure out what she wants out of Goh and to face her anxieties head on.
  • Demoted to Extra: Not counting Chloe, the Red Lotus group has their prominence and plot relevance severely reduced, with only Chloe being the one to get the most character development in Act 1. By Act 2, they start getting their own focus arcs and development outside being Chloe's partners. "Firefly Funhouse Car" allows Atticus and Lexi to gain more characerization.
  • The Dreaded: The group has become this in the Ninjala Car. How so? When a denizen realizes that Augustine wishes to participate in the current tournament, that means he, Yuri and the Vailant are fighting off Chloe and Lexi who have torn up the competition that everyone in the vicinity is screaming their heads off. Asher is terrified to see Chloe using fire and holds up in a corner shivering in fear.
  • Dysfunction Junction: While all main members look well off, it becomes apparent that all of them are messed up and are in severe need of therapy. The only one without problems is Hewie.
    • Chloe: Bullied for her father's name and profession, ostracized for her hobbies, and keeps being thrown into numerous life-threatening situations by adults. To wit, she's been thrown out of a window, nearly faced a kamikaze attack, strangled three times, and nearly killed by a runaway train before she decides to have a dragon demon kill her when it gets too much.
    • Atticus: Shot in the face by the Conductor (Amelia) who makes jokes about the encounter.
    • Lexi: Buried Alive by two passengers whom he saw as friends. Those passengers were Grace Monroe and Simon Laurent.
    • Amelia: Lost her loved one and was close to suicide before the Train got to her and became unable to let go of this death for thirty years, directly being the cause of the Train's troubles.
  • Famed In-Story: They're quite popular across the Infinity Train, becoming public figures by the time Professor Sycamore arrives. There's merchandise, plushies of Chloe, and Horrorland Car reveals that what the Trio did in the Firefly Funhouse Car became a Dr. Seuss-esque picture book.
  • Feather Motif: Their name "Uprising" has Yuri comments how a game that used it as a subtitle and in the Fashion Runway Car, all of them (barring Hewie) dress up as demons that have feathery wings.
    • Chloe dresses up as Furfur, which is a deer with angel wings.
    • Lexi dresses up as Seere, a knight on a winged horse.
    • Atticus is Glasya-Labolas, a dog with gryphon wings.
    • Amelia is a combination of Sabnok (a lion headed demon) and Malthas, the latter based off a crow.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: Chloe Cerise is the red-haired passionate fire-user whereas Amelia is the stoic logical caster of ice.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning:
    • An odd example, since it's only two characters who make this trope: Chloe and Amelia. The former has insane firepower with her Cloack of Marchosias, while the latter has both an ice wand and a mallet that can release electricity.
    • A true trio example happens when they team up with Easter during the climax of the Cyan Desert Car, with Easter using their lightning and Amelia her Ice Wand to help take down Gremory.
  • Flowers of Femininity: The focus flower is the lotus and its leader and founder is the girly-girl Chloe Cerise.
  • Good Wears White: Some of Chloe and Lexi's outfits are pure white and they're heroic characters.
  • Hero of Another Story: A story that's known all too well as they're off to stop the Apex with Atticus having an additional story with ending the reign of the Conductor.
  • Heroic Dog: Both Atticus and Hewie are canines who are on the side of good, although Hewie was originally programmed by Dr. Yung to unleash hell on the Ninjala Car.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Chloe is the Light and Amelia is the Dark. Chloe is the younger, cheerful girl with bright red hair who sees everything with a smile on her face while Amelia is the aloof, snarkier older one of the duo with brown hair. However Chloe plays with the "Light" since she mostly wears black — compared to Amelia wearing a grey suit — and she's mostly known to like dark material like demons. Fittingly their elements also match their personalities: the bright plucky Chloe uses fire while the stoic Amelia uses ice.
  • Malignant Plot Tumor: A Deconstruction. The group is initially second fiddle to the Windchasers even after Sycamore decides to join both groups together in order to achieve their individual goals at the same time. However, their plotline, and Chloe in general, eventually overtake their importance in order to focus on them yet again, which doesn't help Professor Sycamore with his self-worth issues whatsoever. As of Act 2, their plotline is lessened for others to shine and the members not named Chloe and Hewie start focusing on what matters most to them.
  • Meaningful Rename: At the very end of the Ninjala Car, Chloe changes the "Trio" to "Uprising" to state how they're a group ready to overthrow the fear and hate from the Apex and allows Amelia and Hewie in.
  • Morality Chain: If not for Atticus or Lexi, Chloe's trip on the Train would be even more difficult as they keep her grounded by giving her gentle advice and support and helping her move away from her darker thoughts towards Goh.
  • Names To Runaway From Very Fast: Chloe and Lexi alone are called "The Demon Lords" and "The Crimson Terrors" in the Ninjala Car. Then Vale decides to add "Demon Lord of the Vermillion" for Chloe after her last stand against the mirage army.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Chloe and Lexi effectively are this to the eyes of certain denizens. Asher is scared of Chloe cause she is a Cute and Psycho Little Miss Badass who can cast fire while Lexi is a Creepy Good Paper Master whose identity gives Shockro traumatic flashbacks on a similar passenger who withstood his electric torture.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Atticus and Lexi will weaponize this if they want Chloe to do something (like contact her family). Chloe herself tries this on Amelia so she can have more hot chocolate and Amelia replies that it doesn't work. Hewie also joins in once integrated in the group.
  • The Quest: Ending the Apex but ensuring their safety before the Cage of Flauros is their major one, but everyone has their own personal goals: figure out what happened to King Aloysius (Atticus), get revenge on the two who buried him alive (Lexi), ensure Hazel doesn't get involved in anyway possible (Amelia), and reach her father before he wheels himself (Chloe).
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: A girl with a pipe, a talking dog that is the current king of similar canines, a flying book that's actually a prince of a library of living books, a senior engineer who was once the former Conductor and a mirage version of a Hellhound.
  • Red Is Heroic: The name Red Lotus Trio, Chloe's red hair, the dome of Atticus's crown and Lexi's Seere based outfit.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Atticus is King of Corginia and Lexi is the Prince of Azada. Both take the initiative to help Chloe in her quest.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: The dynamic between Amelia and Chloe... kinda. Amelia's primarily dressed in suits, prefers machinery and engineering, but has a maternal side that comes out when dealing with kids, especially Hazel. Chloe, meanwhile, is a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak who likes writing, horses, and can be an absolutely horrible person if either her anger or spite are allowed to act up.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Atticus and Lexi state this in "Firefly Funhouse Car" over Amelia (for Atticus) and Grace and Simon (for Lexi). They make a distinction to Chloe's hatred for Goh by stating what their attackers did was by their own free will, whereas Goh was just a stubborn brat who truly didn't know better.
  • The Three Faces of Eve:
    • Chloe is the Seductress as she's more head-strong and proactive, she wears many outfits with masculine traits, like one giving her a tuxedo, and she has Lexi and Tony Clark crushing on her.
    • Amelia is the Wife, who acts as the most mature and level-headed one of the group.
  • Three Plus Two: Like in the original Blossoming Trail, the party starts off with Chloe, Atticus and Lexi and then later adds Amelia and Hewie to the mix.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Amelia is the older stoic tomboy who is into engineering and wears a suit. Chloe is the younger girly girl who wears dresses and has a cheerful personality.
  • Tough Love: Atticus and Lexi will put their foot down to help Chloe realize that running away from her problems is not the solution but all in a matter to say that they truly care for her and want to make sure that her loved ones know she's okay. Atticus even goes as far as to gently call out Chloe over her perceived ingratitude to people now realizing she was in pain.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Amelia and Chloe are the only females of the group.
  • Undying Loyalty: Atticus, Lexi and Hewie will follow Chloe into the Fog Car no matter what happens.
  • Weak, but Skilled:
    • Atticus is only "weak" due to the fact that he's a corgi compared to the other bipedal members of the Red Lotus Uprising. But weak is not the same as useless. He can use his size and agility to weave through most obstacles, he's also great at coordinating the denizens of the Ninjala Car to fight the Mirage Army because he's also a wise ruler, and his canine senses of sensitive hearing and smell are capable of picking up things others could usually miss.
    • Lexi's control over papers is rather versatile, and he has shapeshifting powers that make him difficult to deal with since he can fold his papers and throw them at the enemy without him ever having to blink. However, Lexi in his base form — a literal book — isn't particularly strong, and even his papers can be easily dealt with as long as somebody has either fire, water, or wind at their side.

    Atticus

Atticus

“You’re finally getting what you wanted, Chloe. People noticing you and your accomplishments. People learning about your pain and want to say that it’s okay to feel hurt and scared. Thousands of people are by your side now, and are you going to disappoint them by not looking at what they want to say?”

"I don’t have experience in how to be a good denizen partner for a passenger. I just happen to know a little bit more than others."

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned, First Appearance: The Twisted Lab Car) | The Firefly Funhouse Car

King of Corginia, and Uniter of the Pembrokes and Cardigans. He once went on a epic quest to slay the Shadow Monster but joins Chloe for help on her quest and uncover the mysteries on the disappearance of an old friend.

  • Adaptational Badass: While he does get into big scrapes of his own, he never ultimately ends a final blow on a boss, mostly leaving that to either Chloe or Lexi. The Windchasers see a video of him in the Joyville Car helping save Chloe and Lexi through his own use of his size, speed and fangs.
  • Adaptation Expansion: What happened to Atticus after Book 1 of Infinity Train is never explored in the show (outside a cameo of him in One-One's instruction video at the beginning of Book 2). In this story, we learn that Atticus gets the story on what happened after he was turned into a Ghom, particularly that Amelia was One-One's apprentice who she usurped for her selfish wish, which explains why he has so much antagonism towards her in the first place.
  • Absurd Phobia: He's gotten a fear of ball pits due to what happened the last time he was in one.
  • Badass Adorable: He's a corgi king off to fight the Apex and venture into Silent Hill, but he's an adorable corgi king.
  • Badass Normal: In comparison to the other members who have some sort of high-tech ability or weapon on hand, Atticus must make due with his wits, speed, and teeth to get things done.
  • Combat Commentator: He ends up being this for the special Windchasers vs Red Lotus Trio match in the Ninjala Car.
  • Cool Crown: Befitting a king, he has a nice crown topping his head.
  • Did Not Think This Through: In hindsight, Atticus admits that teaming up with Tulip was stupid. He had no idea just how long it would take for him to get to the Engine to fight the Steward (he had been traveling with Tulip for a few months by the time the Ball Pit Car happened and Owen Dennis would eventually reveal that she traveled across 47 cars before then), and in that time frame he had just abandoned his car to the mercy of other forces.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he hates how The Cat tried to trick Tulip into being trapped in her memories, and having her bring the Conductor to the Ball Pit Car just so Amelia could destroy said car in order to obtain One-One, had a chance of killing Tulip, and turned him into a Ghom, he doesn't find any joy in her being mind raped after she confessed that it's her fault Simon became racist to denizens.
  • Experienced Protagonist: He's more adjusted to a train trip because of his previous adventure with Tulip. Unfortunately, as his quote shows above, he is mostly basing his advice to Chloe based on what he's seen in Tulip and when she goes against what he knows, he's at a loss.
  • Foil: To Professor Sycamore, surprisingly enough. They're both the Badass Normal in their respective groups, who serve as a mentor to Chloe and eventually end up overshadowed by her. However, while Atticus has a kingdom to return to and is fairly content with his lot in life, Professor Sycamore is stuck on the Infinity Train until he works out his issues, and he's been struggling with his self-worth since he entered, which Chloe's overshadowing not helping him in the slightest. They're also on the hunt for someone — Atticus is wondering what happened to his friend Aloysius while Augustine wants to find Alain.
  • Fragile Speedster: "Tough" isn't the type of word that could be best used to describe Atticus, but he's fast and quick enough on his feet to sweep his enemies and dash through obstacles that most others can't with ease.
  • The Good King: A kind, benevolent and heroic king of a bunch of talking corgis and one Ugly Irwin (a golden retriever).
  • Hidden Depths: He's knowledgable about theatrical production as he saves Chloe and Lexi in the Joyville Car through the use of the ropes.
  • Irony: He notes in the Palimpsest Car that despite red being the color associated with his group, and the color of his crown, he's incapable of seeing it.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Any mentions of him turning into a Ghom is this, since it was one of the most shocking moments in all of Book 1.
  • Mentor Mascot: Downplayed. Atticus never gives Chloe her powers but he's responsible for giving her the donut holer that becomes her signature weapon across the train and the fact that he is her first partner and reason why she heads off towards the unknown in the first place.
  • Non-Action Guy: Downplayed. Atticus does get into fights here more often than his canonical counterpart, but since he's still just a talking corgi accompanying a girl with ridiculous firepower, a paper prince, and a woman with an ice wand, he mostly sticks to the sidelines and acts as a strategist or voice of reason. But in the Harvest Moon Car, he admits that he hates that limitation on him because that also means he won't be able to save himself if Grace comes knocking.
  • The Nose Knows: He has a really sensitive nose that's good for picking up scents. This is in contrast to Vaillant who states that his nose is only good for food.
  • Now What?: He struggles with this in Act 2. Aloysius is safe, but what can he do now? Just go into Fog Car even as Chloe is losing her mind over everything?
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Another comparison one can make to Professor Sycamore, though Atticus definitely takes it better than the dear professor. Atticus has been with the team since the very beginning, but he doesn't appear in conversations as often as his teammates; after all, Lexi's the prince of Azada, Amelia is the former Conductor turned good, and Chloe is Chloe. The only who shares his overshadowed nature is Hewie, and even then, he's a relatively new addition with superpowers of his own.
  • Only Sane Man: He's usually the one keeping a level head in most situations.
  • Secretly Selfish: He hates to admit this, but he sticks with Chloe because she's capable of fighting for him since a corgi can only do much.
  • The Strategist: He leads the Ninjala Car denizens to different groups to destroy the Mirage System and fight off the Mirage Pokémon.
  • Support Party Member: Due to him being a bipedal denizen, he's not capable of fighting. Rather, he ends up as a leader and strategist, and his smaller body means he can weave through smaller spaces that his teammates can't access.
  • Talking Animal: He's a corgi capable of human speech. So are the other corgis in Corginia, grantednote , but he's their king.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • His quote above is a minor, gentle example of this, calling out Chloe over still refusing to face and listen to people even after so many start being willing to listen and learn about her pain.
    • He does not mince words towards Ululiro's seething rage and how she's not using it for the good of Palimpsest..
  • You Are Not Alone: What his What the Hell, Hero? quote boils down to: sure, Chloe was alone in her pain before, but that is not the case now, and if she continues to fall back on her spite and drive away those who show understanding of her situation, then she will be truly alone on her own accord.

    Lexi

Prince Lexi Isolde Aristophenes

“Never insult Chloe or me EVER AGAIN! And tell that lightning bolt [Easter] that if he has something to say then actually come to me and say it instead of using some damn mouthpiece! I am the Specter of the Black Forest, son of White Knight Eligos, Prince Lexi of Azada!!!”

“My father takes care of hundreds of books, thousands of them. You [Alighieri] may ask what’s the point. There will be more books out there, some that will get worn and torn and scribbled on. But then he looks at me, watches a book flutter off and says with a wistful smile, ‘It made a difference to this one.’”

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Cameo in the Monster City Car, First Appearance: The Twisted Lab Car) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Mentioned) | The Firefly Funhouse Car

Son of King Titus from the Library of Flying Books Car. After he was saved by Chloe, he joins her on her quest to stop the Apex in the hopes of getting revenge on the two who buried him alive.

  • Achilles' Heel: He's made of paper, so damaging the papers via fire or water, or even having a strong gust of wind to block it, will hamper his effectiveness.
  • Adaptation Name Change: He was just Lexi in Blossoming Trail, but here he has a formal and regal name to fit with him being royalty.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • His love for Chloe was one of his prominent character traits in Blossoming Trail and Voyage of Wisteria, to the point that he could be blinded by any slight to his image of her. In Crocus, while he is still grateful for Chloe saving him, he also will put his foot down when Chloe decides to avoid the subject of her family back at home and is more civil with others.
    • His relationship with Goh was...tense, to put it likely in Voyage of Wisteria, as he hated how Goh was the supposed "Childhood Friend" of Chloe who barely noticed his friend's problems (and was the one who ultimately got Chloe on the Train with his insensitive remark) and it took a while for them to get on the same page. In this story, he has no antagonism towards him at all and admits that he misjudged Goh from Chloe's mentioning of him. "Firefly Funhouse Car" has him try to be more optimistic about Goh and give him the benefit of the doubt, only to be disappointed as to how dense Goh can be.
    • Boiling Point Lexi despised Specter, but Crocus Lexi is willing to let go of his grudges for the greater good and is mortified with the damning phrase Sycamore calls Specter.
  • Age Lift: Blossoming Trail Lexi was somewhere around his teens, and 20 in "book years" as he states to The Cat in Voyage of Wisteria, but he acts like someone around Chloe's age range this time around. Act 2 Prelude explains that a flying book ages twice as slowly than humans, so 20 "book years" is around 10 human years.
  • Animal Motifs: Horses. The first demon that he was based off of was Eligos, a white knight who rode a skeletal horse into battle. His current one is Seere, another knight who rides on a horse. Horses are noble steeds and are usually what a knight would ride on when he saves a maiden in distress. Moreover, he's a denizen on the Infinity Train, and one term for a steam engine train is called iron horse.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: The handsome prince made of paper many denizens fawn over? He's really a talking book.
  • Berserk Button: He has several.
    • Do not call him a poser; he gets irate when Vaillant calls him one.
    • Do not capture his friends or put them in any danger. A couple of snake bandits ends up getting numerous paper cuts when he fights them. Oh and do not harm or insult Chloe or you will die.
    • And do not reveal that you have harmed books due to his own past of being Buried Alive and the fact that he lives in a library of kind and gentle books. He gets incensed upon seeing Specter for the time after he learns about that little incident that Specter gave to Blue Angel and is ready to ban the Knight of Hanoi from entering Azada.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Most of the Red Lotus Uprising fit this, but Lexi has it the worst due to being the one who insists on protecting Chloe above all else, despite the girl being so utterly overpowered compared to everybody else and Lexi himself not being the strongest player in the team. Deconstructed in Harvest Moon Car. He feels weak that Chloe is the strong one and he can't do anything to protect her as thanks for her saving him.
Lexi: I feel so powerless. I’m supposed to be a prince. I’m supposed to be the one protecting maidens like Chloe if they’re in danger. But she’s always the one saving me, always throwing herself into danger while I can only help prepare her for her destiny against the Flauros and the Apex and everything in between
  • Buried Alive: His backstory, courtesy of a younger Grace and Simon, was to be buried within his own car and was stuck like that for eight years until Chloe unearthed him.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: Downplayed; he can talk to Amelia and Chloe just fine, but fangirls like panda denizens make him hide in Chloe's arm.
  • Character Development: In the Palimpsest Car, a meeting with a kitsune girl who states that he's no better for idolizing Chloe makes him realize that he might have been a bit blind to some of Chloe's most notable flaws.
  • Creepy Child: Has this appearance in the Ninjala Car (due to taking the Ninja Gum) as he now dresses up like a vampire and calmly states "I banish you into darkness" while going in fights.
  • Creepy Good: Looks sinister with his light hair and blue eyes (as he's based off Specter) but he's a heroic figure. Even when he's in turned into a kid form in the Ninjala Car, he's still sinister but heroic.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Falls in love with a Mirage Mareep and wants to take them home to use as a nightlight.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Like in Blossoming Trail, having him turn into a gryphon to fly over cars won't work. "Firefly Funhouse Car" has the three remark that the last time the trio tried that, they only got past three cars before the Ghoms arrived.
  • Expy: His first human form has the appearance of Specter (due to Green Phantom Queen's love of him and an in-joke of how she said Specter is a more noble character than Simon) to the point that the Windchasers mistake the Knight of the Hanoi the one copying Lexi instead of vice versa. Of course this gets the attention of Easter who assumes Lexi is intentionally copying Specter.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • He detests Grace for good reason, but admits not even she deserves abusive and neglectful parents.
    • Whatever Augustine called Specter, as the narration mutes it and Lexi himself doesn't like Specter getting closer to Chloe, it's horrifying that Lexi immediately shuts Vailant up before he repeats it.
  • Finger Muzzle: Does this in "Firefly Funhouse Car" to stop Chloe before she states how she wants Goh dead for being a jerk to her.
  • Flying Books: His original appearance is one of these, and his home is known as the Library of Flying Books Car, but he usually walks in a humanoid form made out of his papers due to Chloe's insistence and his love for her.
  • Glass Cannon: His use of papers means that he can spread them out to attack at will and fold them into whatever he wants, so he can unleash Death of a Thousand Cuts before the target knows what hits them. However, he's got very bad defenses to make up for it.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's a heroic character, sure, but he's also the most violent member of the Red Lotus Uprising as proven with a pair of snake bandits when they foolishly thought they could get away with capturing his friends. And considering how Chloe is part of the group, that's saying a lot.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His weapon in the Ninjala Car is the Scrollblade.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He thought of Grace and Simon as his friends. He thinks differently of them now after they ripped him apart and buried him in the garden of his own car. To be fair, he was only six in human terms, no different than all of the other kids that the two would later sway on their sides.
  • Identical Stranger: His first appearance is so similar to Specter that Shockro in the Shock Street Car mistakes the prince for the passenger. This gets to the point that he completely changes his entire in The Chocolate Car precisely because people won't stop comparing him to the guy.
  • Informed Obscenity: He lets out a storm of curse words at Specter in the Elephant Teapot Car. All we know is that Emma has to cover Aoi's eyes from reading them and Chloe's face is red from all the cussing.
  • Insistent Terminology: He is not dressed exactly like Specter, he is Chloe's created character "Specter of the Black Forest".
  • Irony: He's made of paper, and a major weakness of paper is fire. He's also smitten for Chloe, who has a cloak that allows her to cast fire.
  • Kill It with Water: Being made of paper means he's weak to fire in general, but water is a close second in terms of weakness.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness: Many readers who originally read Blossoming Trail will question just when and where Lexi was ever called a prince. Turns out this is from another fanfic.
  • Logical Weakness: He's made of paper, which isn't exactly the most durable material out there, so using fire and water against him pretty much makes him a goner. Also, since his papers are as light as feathers, a strong enough gust of wind will cause them to spread and turn them useless.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His middle name, Isoldes, is based off of the female protagonist of the play Tristan and Isolde, which is based off a Celtic legend of the romance between a knight and princess. A perfect name for the denizen who has fallen for Chloe.
    • His last name, Aristophanes, is the name of a Greek comedic playwright.
  • Meet Cute: His first introduction to Chloe is this, as the first thought he has of her in bandages is to think she looks cute as a mummy.
  • Mr. Exposition: Acts like this for the Palimpsest Car as he visited in the past with his father.
  • Mystical White Hair: His hair for his first outfit is white, both to reflect that he's made of paper and the basis of his "appearance".
  • Mythology Gag: The outfit he wears when the Windchasers and Red Lotus Uprising have a tea ceremony is a red yukata with golden lotus and two scrolls on his head to mimic dragon horns. This is an attire he wore in Blossoming Trail/Voyage of Wisteria.
  • Overly Long Name: His full name is "Prince Lexi Isolde Aristophenes" as revealed in the Palimpsest Car.
  • Paper Master: He controls the papers in his book to fold them into any form he wants or to slice anything and anyone in his path. He can also collect more papers to increase the strength.
  • Paper People: He can uses papers to assemble into a human form, which he uses as a default.
  • Prince Charming: He's a prince and a handsome one in his human form. Although those who read Blossoming Trail knows that it's Chloe who saved him not the other way around.
  • Red Baron: Nicknamed "The Paper Prince" due to his paper body and status as royalty.
  • Retcon: He was never called a prince in the original Blossomverse, but was changed to be that way after he was called that in Infinity Train: Boiling Point and its prequel.Explanation
  • Revenge: The second reason why he joined the group in the first place, outside wanting to stay with Chloe as a "punishment" to keep an eye on her and explore the Train like he originally wanted to, was to finally get a chance to leave his home to hunt down and make Simon and Grace pay for burying him alive.
  • Royal Brat: He's the prince of Azada with a kind demeanor to Chloe and his friends, but everybody else either gets an Aloof Ally at best or an absolute jerk at worst.
  • Running Gag: Being confused for Easter/Specter before he changes his attire.
  • Satellite Character: Just like his canon self, Lexi has most of his characterization based on his connection to Chloe. The co-author admits that he's going to have more of a character in Act 2, focusing more on his flaws and doubts on not being a proper prince and knight in shining armor.
  • Shout-Out: His Seere attire is based on the Yu-Gi-Oh! card Fabled Leviathan.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift:
    • In the Ninjala Car, he wears a vampire outfit instead of sticking to a kid version of Specter because he feels like his kid self and his "Specter" self should be two different beings.
    • After the Ninjala Car, he has to switch to a new outfit based on the Ars Goetia demon Seere — a knight who rides a winged horse — so he's no longer confusing others for Specter. This also comes just a chapter before he learns that Specter burned and tore a book a part (in VRAINS) so he'd rather distance himself from someone who would purposefully harm a book.
  • Tempting Fate: Insists on staying as his "Specter of the Black Forest" outfit regardless of everyone's confusion on him looking like Specter and states that he will change into a new form if he has no choice but to. Cut to the Fashion Runway Car and he's now in a new knightly outfit.
  • The Storyteller: Atticus notes that he likes stating mesmerizing yarns to lure his opponents in. Sure enough, when fighting Valliant, Lexi states one of Chloe's old stories to paralyze the Silver Lycan before going in for the kill.
  • Token Flyer: Since his true form is that of a flying book, and he can shapeshift into forms that have the ability to fly with wings, he counts.
  • Unknown Rival:
    • Easter hates his guts because of how he's coming in dressed up as their partner. Lexi has no idea who Specter is because his only reference is Chloe's OC and he was Buried Alive around the time Specter was on the train anyhow.
    • He hates Specter for getting close to Chloe — particularly when Specter's way of getting Chloe to stop setting fire to the desert is with his blutness — while Specter doesn't even bother paying attention to Lexi's tirades. That said, Lexi can be civil with Specter and asked Specter to make sure Chloe properly calls Ash by safe-guarding some shawarmas unless she does so.
  • Warrior Prince: Prince of Azada and ready to get down and dirty with his paper blades. Unfortunately, he has issues in not being "enough" of a prince to protect Chloe.
  • Weak to Fire: He's a being made entirely of paper, and paper itself is the only thing he can control. These objects don't fare well against fire, so it says a lot that he willingly follows the fiery powerhouse that is Chloe.
  • "You!" Exclamation: States this to Casimira when they meet in the Palimpsest Car.
  • Younger Than They Look: He usually likes to look like a teenager, barring the Ninja gum, but 20 in "book years" is the equivalent of a ten year old boy.

    Amelia Hughes

Amelia Hughes

"And as for why I am helping Chloe...Perhaps...perhaps I am doing it to make up for the thirty years I wasted. Perhaps I am proving to the White Gestalt that I am getting off my sorry butt to fix things. Perhaps...maybe it's because Chloe forgave me no if, ands, or buts. That she knew that I was trying my best to do better."

"I don’t need a car so I can be isolated in my memories while the entire world burns. I don’t need to be a fanatic who chases after a shadow of my past. I will chase the sun, I will stand upon my raft and let the winds take me wherever they need to go. This I vow."

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First Appearance: The Ninjala Car)

A 60-year-old engineer who serves One-One and formerly the Conductor whom the Apex worships. After learning how the Apex leaders has her "daughter" Hazel, along with the ramifications of the Cage of Flauros, she decides to team up with Chloe's group while tasking Kisaragi to keep Hazel far away from the Apex leaders.

  • Action Girl: An older version as she's in her sixties at this point, but she comes packing heat and isn't afraid to get her weapons out at the slightest provocation.
  • Actor Allusion:
    • When she uses the Ice Wand for the first time, she proclaims "Winter is Coming", a well-known phrase from Game of Thrones, which Lena Headey starred in.
    • Chloe makes the analogy of Amelia giving Hazel to a gorilla-like denizen akin to something like Tarzan or The Jungle Book. One of Lena Headey's earliest roles was in a movie adaptation of the latter.
  • Adaptation Expansion: She never gets to fully move on from Alrich either in the canon series (as the series was cancelled after Book 4) or the original Blossomverse. She gets her own subplot in the Palimpsest Car where she learns to fully move forward with her life.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: Amelia was many things in canon, but she certainly wasn't moronic enough to leave the safety of Hazel and Tuba to the sociopathic White Rabbit known as Kisaragi, who has already brainwashed and mentally violated a kid into replacing his leader once. In her defense, she only had a short amount of time to conjure up a plan to get Hazel to safety and regrets her decision when Specter relays that Kisaragi got compromised by Elipzo.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In Blossoming Trail, Amelia physically appeared at the beginning of the Cyan Desert Car (taking place halfway into Act 2). Here she joins up in the midst of the Ninjala Car and joins at the end, whereas the Cyan Desert Car in this story will end up being the end of Crocus Act 1.
  • Adaptational Karma: In canon, Amelia gets away for essentially creating a cult and ruining the lives of hundreds with only her big number to show from it, and she doesn't feel any sympathy or regret for what she did outside of realizing her efforts to recreate her past life with Alrich was pointless. Even in Blossoming Trail, she still gets away with Chloe defending her and Grace (who only got to be that way because of Amelia) getting the full ire of everyone on the train. In the Palimpsest Car, Augustine does not mince words that everything, everything, that the Windchasers, Red Lotus Uprising, and White Gestalt are doing all stems from her and her desires to want her life back instead of fixing herself and doing the right thing with the power she had as Conductor to at least give them something to help them figure out what to do. Like an instruction manual.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: In Blossoming Trail and Voyage of Wisteria, she used firearms as her main weapon. While she still does have them, she now has a electric croquet mallet and Ice Wand in her arsenal.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon, Amelia was very dismissive of Hazel being one of her creations. In here, Amelia actually did want to take care of her, but the sight of Hazel becoming a turtle (and her own focus on recreating her life with Alrich) had her decide that Hazel should be raised by someone nicer. So she placed Hazel into one of the passenger pods, sent it to the Deep Jungle Car, and the rest is history.
  • All for Nothing: She's already learned that her thirty years to attempt to create a car that can replicate her life with Alrich was not going to end well, but then she learns from Gremory that her old prediction of "this Train will never give you what you want" was to specify that she could've had her desires in a train within a certain car if she just prodded Gremory more. Naturally, Amelia is not happy to learn this.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: Wears a lion-eared headband for the Fashion Runway Car.
  • An Ice Person: One of the items she uses is an Ice Wand to make slopes and ice walls.
  • Badass Normal: In comparison to the other passengers in the Windchasers (who have Pokémon and Personas), White Gestalt (who have Pokémon, an amplified denizen or telekinesis) and even Chloe herself (who has an artifact blessed by a demon and god and a Mirage Pokémon), she relies mostly on her weapons and fighting skill to get the job done.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Amelia wanted Alrich above all else, and be able to live in the past with him like he never died. When she finds a pescia of him in The Palimpsest Car, the pescia is made to repeat nothing but the past, never the future plans she and the real Alrich had.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Why she joins Chloe's group; not only was Chloe willing to forgive her, but Chloe stands up for Amelia's defense when Walter begins chewing out how Amelia is at fault for everything gone wrong. She even admits that she'd rather team up with Chloe than White Gestalt, because everyone there was up about blaming her for her mistakes (and Tokio hates her because of her indirection hand in creating the Apex and all his traumas associated with them).
  • Berserk Button: Gremory is a big one for her due to the Goetia's predictions and smug attitude.
  • Bystander Syndrome: She sat around and did nothing while so many passengers fumbled around in the dark for thirty years and one of them had the idea to make a cult that hurt denizens. Even when Gladion told her to do something about it, she refused and it nearly ended with the Train's destruction and three members of White Gestalt kicked out. Even while she's with Chloe and her group, she's barely doing anything to fix her mistakes and instead, children who should be going out and fixing themselves are now fixing her problems. She grows out of it in Harvest Moon Car, personally going to Grace and Simon to warn them of the Fog Car.
  • Character Development: The Palimpsest Car is where she realizes she can't stay in her past and desires to be with Alrich, nor can she let innocent people having to fix up her mistakes. She cements this by telling Pescia Alrich to live a happy life. In the Harvest Moon Car, she visits Grace and Simon to set the record straight and to warn them of what lies ahead. She later tells Aligheri that she joined Chloe "because", fulling accepting Chloe's decision to stand up for her.
  • The Comically Serious: Like in the show itself, she's mostly a serious figure so many of the antics she gets into are even more hilarious. For example, for the Fashion Runway Car, her outfit is just herself in her grey suit along with a pair of black feathery wings and a lion-eared headband before she glumly walks to the runway and puts her arms up like lion paws. She gets an 8 from the judges.
  • Commonality Connection: She gets along very well with Yuri, since they're both technological savvy snarky individuals.
  • Composite Character:
    • She says it herself to Augustine that she's James Sunderland and Mary Shepherd-Sunderland: the former going through so much guilt and pain, running away from everything and having to fight her own Pyramid Heads and the latter when she tells pescia Alrich to live and that they made her happy, like Mary's letter.
Amelia: And I’m James in the end, aren’t I? Unable to move on from my grief, running away from everything, wanting to be punished because I don’t deserve a second chance no matter what the Train tells me. And here I stand in front of my Pyramid Heads – Alrich and you, Augustine. Once upon a time, I needed to be reminded that I made my mistakes as a sin, to tell myself I can’t be saved. I don’t need that anymore…I only need to forgive myself and say that I can still find my happiness before it’s too late.
  • Cry into Chest: As she asks pescia Alrich to live his life, she breaks down sobbing in his chest.
  • A Day in the Limelight: While Augustine's angst is a big part of the Palimpsest Car, Amelia is considered the focus character since it focuses on her struggling with her feelings on reuniting with a copy of Alrich and how she must let these feelings go for good if she wants to find true happiness.
  • Decomposite Character: Her Blossomverse characterization made her be the Douglas Cartland to Chloe's Heather Mason, but this trait has been passed onto Augustine in Seeker of Crocus.
  • Deflector Shields: Like in canon, she has a barrier that deflects all sorts of physical attacks. However, it doesn't save her from Indigo's Ice Trap.
  • Double Standard: Unlike in Blossoming Trail, Seeker of Crocus points out that Amelia gets off easy for her mistakes.
    • She gets to atone for her sins even though it's her fault that a lot of passengers and denizens were lost about the train's purpose for 30 years and she indirectly created the Apex. But three members of White Gestalt (all men) got kicked out when they nearly destroyed the Train trying to stop the Apex. She is fully aware at how unfair this is.
    • Carried over from Blossoming Trail, she gets to waddle around the Infinity Train like normal despite being the catalyst of at least three decades of Passengers having no idea where to go and the Train becoming more chaotic, while Grace, the leader of The Apex who was inspired by Amelia, gets consistently demonized as the absolute worst despite being only 8 years or so on the Train. And if anybody tries to call her out? People will come to her aid, while Grace will be left to rot. However this gets inverted as Act 2 of Crocus goes on, as Augustine calls her out for everything that she did and how she is relying on others to do her job for her.
    • After things go to hell in Palimpsest, it's Chloe who gets the ire of the street cleaners, going as far as to attack her and even get a knife to slice her throat. In contrast, the worst that Amelia gets is glares and people throwing stuff at her (which doesn't work due to her barrier). When they point out that Amelia didn't vocalize her pains and had emotional breakdowns, Amelia points out that doesn't necessarily mean that she's less guilty than Chloe; after all, Amelia's single-minded goal to bring back Alrich is the reason for everything that's gone wrong for the past thirty years.
    • When Augustine takes over a train for a few hours due to him being in despair and suicidal, a lot of folks in the Palimpsest Car get angry. If she, who was also on the verge of suicide, takes control of a Train, then no one goes after her head and One-One never punishes her for usurping him.
    • One-One's allowed to get away with his actions as One even though he's been Conductor for far longer than she has. But as Tres points out, everyone keeps hounding on her mistakes instead of questioning if that bowling ball blatantly ignored numerous criminals and deaths that has happened.
  • Easily Forgiven: Chloe herself forgives her for everything she's done and, in a broader sense, the fact that she's still working with One-One even after she usurped him and took over the Train for 30 years means he considers it water under the bridge. The feeling's not mutual for others, though.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • She doesn't mince words that she's disgusted with Kisaragi's actions (namely brainwashing a child to be the White Rabbit and his 52-man militia on the Apex).
    • She is horrified at learning the story of what happened to poor Earth.note
    • She (a Caucasian woman) does not like the idea of electrifying Grace (a black teenager) in self-defense due to it making her seem as racist.
  • Expy:
    • A brunette woman who becomes shattered from losing a man that she has loved, creating a world where he never died while having an idealized version of him in her head and has an ice motif? She surprisingly fits the character of Cheryl Mason...or rather, the alternate Cheryl Heather Mason, with bonus points in the Cheryl of that game would keep watching video recordings of her father, just like there are memory tapes on the Infinity Train. Like Cheryl has to learn to let go of her illusion of her father and find happiness with her mother, Amelia must learn to let Alrich go and cherish the happiness she can get in the present.
    • She brings up twice that she's compared to Molly Grue. A jaded brown haired middle-aged woman who chases after fairy tales and becomes enraged when the one thing she's been searching for (unicorns for Molly, Alrich for Amelia) appear when they're no longer virgin or innocent and have essentially given up hope in never seeing. They also learn to forgive the subject of their grief and move on with their lives.note
  • Females Are More Innocent: No, she is not.
    • She wasn't part of White Gestalt's schemes but she still was responsible for 30 years of chaos and the creation of the Apex, as evident by her large number. And she's well aware that she messed up. Augustine calls her out on it during the Palmipsest Car and that others, particularly children — and three of them boys aged 10 - 14 — have had to pick up the slack while she sat around and watched.
    • Zigzagged in Palimpsest Car. She's already guilty as sin for what she did as Conductor, but the street cleaners go for Chloe (for her emotional breakdowns) while the worst she gets are glares and produce pelting. She herself finds it extremely unfair as Chloe is the more innocent one between the two.
    • Amelia is constantly blamed for everything that has happened on the Train...except she's only been conductor for 30 years so she's only responsible for the messes she made in that time period. Tres points out that One has been conductor for far longer, and yet he's probably turned away from stuff that happened under his watch. Not to mention that One himself never decided to give instruction manuals until after Amelia usurped him and he spent time with Tulip.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: While she's forgiven, Atticus points out that she's banned from setting foot in Corginia for her crimes. Likewise, several Denizens and Passengers aren't exactly quick or willing to forgive and forget the thirty years of chaos when she was in command.
  • Her Heart Will Go On: It takes thirty years for Amelia to move on from Alrich, but a trip in the Palimpsest Car helps her understand that she needs to move forward for Chloe and to search for true happiness with Hazel. She thanks the pescia of him for their time together, and requests that he lives his own life.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • She brings up how she's read a bit of Arsene Lupin when she was younger in the Boutique Street Car.
    • She knows a bit about cyberpunk once Yuri describes it to her, as she mentions watching Blade Runner with Alrich and reading Neuromancernote  and commenting that she was a fan of Molly Millions.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: "Okay, I need to keep Hazel and Tuba safe, but I can't stick with them 'cause Chloe needs me. Naturally, I need a babysitter, and who better to do it than the insane rabbit-like mental rapist known as Kisaragi? Brilliant!" Granted, she had such a short time to come up with a plan and Kisaragi did keep up his end of the bargain, but it was still a very risky plan to do it.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: When paired with Yuri, albeit this is because she's a 60-year-old woman and Yuri is an 11-year-old boy.
  • Hypocrite:
    • She chided the White Gestalt over how she basically warned them not to mess with the Infinity Train, only for them to nearly destroy it. As a reminder, this is coming from the woman who did the exact same thing with Gremory, only instead of risking destroying the train, she took part in over thirty years of pain and confusion that people are still reeling about.
    • She notes how The Cat is at fault for what happened with Simon and how she didn't do her job as a denizen partner to protect him. Atticus immediately notes that she's no better.
Atticus: Need I remind you, the apprentice to One-One, usurped his position to get what she wanted, deliberately destroyed the Ball Pit Car that would’ve killed us all even after The Cat brought you to us, shot me in the face, and mockingly told Tulip ‘No more tears’ solely because she was able to move on from her grief and you weren’t?
    • Amelia tells Augustine not to blame himself for the Third Rail incident as Usagi would've chosen the next suicidal passenger to cause chaos. This, as Augustine points out, is coming from a suicidal woman who took control of the Infinity Train for thirty years.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Amelia tells Chloe that she can't trust Grace with Hazel because Grace is not parent material. Chloe then stares at the same woman who abandoned Hazel and let her be raised by Tuba before Amelia adds that yes, she herself isn't parent material either.
  • Important Haircut: Cuts off her braid in front of Kisaragi as proof that she seriously wants him to take Hazel and Tuba far away from Grace and Simon.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite the location and characters around her being different, Amelia discovers Hazel in much the same way she did in Blossoming Trail: by looking at her alongside the Apex leaders on a screen from their visit to the Debutante Ball Car, and recognizing the "number" on her palm.
  • Insane Troll Logic: She cuts off part of her hair and hands it over to Kisaragi, who has no real use for it, to somehow show him that she's serious when entrusting Hazel and Tuba's safety to him. The rabbit's own shock and disbelief at the action is the only reason it works.
  • Irony: While she's no longer running away from her past, she's running away from the current problem that is the fact that Hazel is technically her daughter.
  • I Warned You:
    • She stated she warned White Gestalt about their plan to stop the Apex. They ignored her and nearly destroyed the Train doing so.
    • Inverted with Gremory. Gremory warned her that "this Train" would not give her what she wanted. Amelia ignored it. 33 years later, the prediction was expanded on that the Infinity Train won't give her what she wanted; a train within one of the cars itself would give Amelia her heart's desire. She's not happy to know the demon basically screwed her over with this.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: A variation. In Palimpsest Car, Amelia gets to be with a copy of Alrich after thirty years, and it seems like she could settle down with him. Ultimately, she decides that his place is in Palimpsest, not with her, and all he requests is that he lives his own life and to remember that he made her happy for a brief moment.
  • Karma Houdini: While she's exempt from being kicked out of the Train when White Gestalt's plan went off the rails, she gets away with her atrocities for uprooting One-One from his role, 30 years of destruction so she can have her happy life with Alrick and indirectly creating the Apex except for her ridiculously high number. Amelia herself is not amused about it in the slightest. That said, she's already living with the fact that her attempts failed and there is a very slim chance that she will ever return home (or if she did, it would've changed so radically that she wouldn't be able to fit in).
  • Lady of Black Magic: A variation of this. She's a Defrosting Ice Queen in her sixties and wears grey instead of black. She doesn't have magic like Chloe does, but her weapons of a powerful blunderbuss, an Ice Wand and an electric croquet mallet can be translated into Final Fantasy spells like Flare, Blizzard and Thunder.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Everything about her role in Book 1 and 3 from Infinity Train are laid out on the floor.
  • Magic Wand: Has an Ice Wand as one of her weapons.
  • Mama Bear: When Alighieri is unable to keep his beak shut to tell everyone to just ditch Chloe Cerise, Amelia fires her blunderbuss to make the feather face shut up.
  • Mirror Character:
    • To Grace Monroe, both who are women who ran away due to a lack of love (Grace wanted her neglectful parents to love her, Amelia had to witness her fiance die) and both have made plenty of crimes — their most prominent one being regicide with Amelia shooting Atticus and Grace killing Utahoshi. Main difference is that Amelia turned Atticus into a Ghom (but Tulip turned him back to normal) in a bid to get One-One from Tulip and be left alone, while Grace shanked Utahoshi under the "pretense" that she was saving Tokio (when Utahoshi was trying to reach out to Tokio). Amelia is forgiven because she learned that she made mistakes and joins Chloe's team while Grace is derided as a murderer and apathetic monster by everyone and can't accept that she's in the wrong. Also Amelia actually worked under the Conductor while Grace barely acknowledges One-One's existence except "don't believe his lies, I'm the expert".
    • Surprisingly, she's this to the unseen Oleg Sadakov who is resting in the Palimpsest Car. Both of them lost a loved one at a young age — Oleg lost his little sister when he was a baby and she drowned into an icy lake whereas it's said that Alrich died in a motorbike accident — and both of them ended up isolated from the world because of it. While both wanted to create a world where their loved ones never left, Oleg had a hallucination of his dead sister all grown up while Amelia decided to make a car to replicate her memories of Alrich to make it seem as if he never died. And in this story, Oleg meets up with a pescia of his sister (with the book stating he asked her to erase the revelations that she's just a copy and they live in Palimpsest) whereas Amelia, as much as she is glad to see Alrich in his pescia, realizes that she can't stay living in her fantasy of being together with him when there's more important stuff to worry about and lets him be.
    • Amelia is a foil to Sei. Both lost someone close to them — Alrich to Amelia and Sei's mother to Sei herself — and ended up commandeering a Train. Amelia refused to help others or move on with herself, whereas Sei gradually reflects that she needs to start changing herself. Amelia tried to take control of the Train but the Train refused to budge, while Sei decides to act like a Parental Substitute to the Third Rail who follows her instructions.
    • Amelia is a mirror to November Aguilar. Both are brunettes with an obsession for things to be in order, with November making lists and Amelia's Control Freak mentality when she tried to make a car for herself. November ends up in a destructive relationship with Casimira which ended with her losing two fingers and numerous bee stings on her face, while Amelia gets to have a chat with pescia Alrich and decides to move on with her life. November has Stopped Caring, Amelia has learned to care for herself again.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: It's only after she sees One-One make a door for Atticus to let him go back to Corginia that she realizes that she was essentially one life in order to make herself happy.
  • Not So Above It All: She takes the time to sing karaoke with Chloe during the Lumberjacks Car, with one of the songs they sing is "Enemy".
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this look when Specter tells her that Kisaragi, who she left Hazel and Tuba with, may have been compromised.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Neither her stint as Conductor or her shooting Atticus will be forgotten anytime soon. More specifically, the fact that she spent thirty years trying to make a car for herself yet never considered making instruction books for passengers is also brought up. By the time Alighieri brings up the former in Act 2, she just rolls her eyes and gets very irritated when Atticus brings up the latter in a joking manner (particularly because the Corgi Car does a recreation of Atticus's exploits, and one of them is him being shot in the face).
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Amelia snaps when she sees Gremory bring up how she could've gotten Alrich if she asked Gremory to clarify her prediction (Gremory said "this Train won't give you what you want") instead of stubbornly insisting that the Train could give her what she wanted (as the fortune was telling her "Don't use the Infinity Train, go and search for a certain car that had a train to stay with Alrich).
    • She acts shocked and broken down to tears when she bumps into a copy of Alrich in the Palimpest Car — which is impossible since Alrich has been dead for more than 30 years.
  • Personality Powers: Amelia is a Defrosting Ice Queen and an engineer which makes the Ice Wand a perfect fit as she is capable of creating icy constructs while keeping her calm demeanor.
  • Persona Non Grata: She is not allowed in the Corgi Car, given that she shot their ruler and turned him into a Ghom to spite Tulip and sicced the Steward/Shadow Monster in the past, nearly flooding Corginia.
  • Precursors: As a Passenger who brought chaos to the Infinity Train in order to get something that she wanted, she counts as one to The Apex.
  • Pungeon Master: She makes a few (very bad) puns in the conference in the Elephant Teapot Car. Most notably her last one (in regards that Ryoken will be separated from his soul-mate, Specter) has Specter himself burst out laughing. She apparently got new outfits for the Windchasers in exchange for some puns in the Palimpsest Car.
  • Refusing Paradise: Amelia finally has a copy of Alrich after thirty years in the Palimpsest Car, and she could just leave the Uprising behind to stay with him at long last...but she refuses, realizing that this copy is not her Alrich and no one can replace him, and that Palimpsest is honestly a death trap that keeps people so broken and obsessed to even bother to move forward. She realizes there are more important things she must do, particularly figuring out where Hazel is, and to stay by Chloe's side while she searches for the whereabouts of her father. All the same, she wishes for the pescia Alrich to have a happy life.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Chloe brings up something about the macabre, she asks if Chloe will end up becoming an occultist.
  • Team Mom: Steps in as the mother figure for the Windchasers and Lotus Uprising being the eldest female figure of the two.
  • Town Girls: The stoic butch to Lampetia's peppy Femme and Chloe's tomboyish Neither. She's stoic, wears pantsuits, is tech-savvy, and the element associated with her is ice, which she uses to make constructs like walls or slopes.
  • Tragic Ice Character: She was in mourning for thirty years due to the death of her fiancé Alrick and her main weapon is the Ice Wand. She's moved on from the mourning, but she still holds regrets over the many mistakes she's made while on the Train.
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: After wasting thirty years of her life trying to recreate a car that would let her believe that Alrich was alive — which ultimately ended up with thousands of lives ruined, denizen or otherwise — and having ignored Gremory's suggestion about not using the Infinity Train for her purposes, Amelia finally finds a copy of Alrich in the Palimpsest Car...and within one hour of speaking to him, she slowly begins to realize that her desire to be with Alrich is different than actually having him. Ultimately, she ends up letting that Alrich go free to live his life.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: White Gestalt and Act 2 Augustine do not show any sorts of sympathy towards her. Regardless of why she did what she did, it doesn't excuse the fact that she couldn't care less about the passengers struggling to survive or the denizens that got killed by the Apex for three decades and only is atoning for it now, instead of stopping sooner. The Red Lotus Uprising even admits that Amelia messed up, but also stating that she's actively working on fixing as much as she can, with Atticus deciding to move forward even though he has the most beef with her.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: In the Elephant Teapot Car, she glumly tells Augustine that she could've stopped at any point about recreating a car that she could live in and just make instruction manuals on how to survive the Train, thus preventing the Apex from ever being created.

    Hewie (Unmarked Spoilers)

Hewie

"Hewie barked as he happily snuggled Chloe in response. His friend was very powerful! Not only was she able to endure their attacks, but she managed to free him and his friends from Dr. Yung’s control."

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: The Ninjala Car)

A Mirage Houndoom who befriends Chloe in the Ninjala Car after she converts the Mirage Army into denizens.

  • Action Pet: He's seen as Chloe's pet and he ready to fight off against anyone who hurts her!
  • All There in the Manual: A comment from the author reveals that Hewie's moveset for the story will be Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Iron Tail and Protect.
  • Artificial Human: Or Pokémon in this case as he's a Mirage Pokémon created by Dr. Yung through Infinity Train tech.
  • Badass Adorable: He's such a precious doggie! He's also capable of breathing fire if you happen to get him angry or hurt his friends.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Chloe showing affection towards him, not to mention saving him and the other Mirage Pokémon from Dr. Yung, is what causes Hewie to join her.
  • Berserk Button: Just like any dog loyal to their owner, he will not stand for anyone hurting or insulting Chloe.
  • Big Friendly Dog: He's a large canine — the Pokedex entry says they stand at 4'02" — who truly loves being with Chloe and the rest of the Lotus Uprising.
  • Canine Companion: Even moreso than Atticus since he is a new addition to the original four-man party and doesn't have any signs of upliftedness like the King of Corginia does.
  • Canon Foreigner: He's a newcomer to the original Red Lotus group.
  • Casting a Shadow: He's a Dark-type and knows Dark Pulse.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Is a Dark/Fire type, is labeled the Dark Pokémon, and has bone-like appendages and devil horns, but he's a very friendly Houndoom who loves Chloe very much.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He comforts a crying Togepi before Chloe approaches him. After a bit of hesitation, he tackles her and gives her some playful licks across the face, showing that despite his dark appearance, he's a sweet and friendly Pokémon. Just before Chloe and Augustine leave for dinner, he bites on Chloe's cloak, showcasing that he's already showing affection for Chloe after just one glance. He also immediately comes to Chloe's defense by breathing fire when she demands Augustine to tell her the truth about his talk with Walter.
  • Extra Oredinary: He knows the Steel-type move Iron Tail.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: He's a firebreathing canine modeled after the original hellhound of Cerberus with black fur and devilish horns. Chloe simply decides to calls him Hewie.
  • The Glomp: Does this to Chloe during the Cyan Desert Car in an attempt to cheer her up...and knocks her into Amelia's soundboard while Augustine is going through stage fright.
  • Hellhound: Houndooms, which is what Hewie's based on, have demon-like horns and tails and are modeled after Cerberus. However, the only time Hewie is menacing is when he was still following Dr. Yung's programming. After Chloe saves him, he becomes sweet and friendly.
  • In-Series Nickname: Asher calls him "The Fire Puppy".
  • Irony: The reference to the original Hewie was a pure white German Shepherd. Hewie here is a Houndoom, which are mostly black.
  • Meaningful Name: His name can be translated into "Soul, mind, intellect", representing how Hewie is alive, regardless of being a mirage Pokémon, and his connections are what make Chloe start wanting to love Pokémon again.
  • Mundane Utility: Hewie's Flamethrower is useful for helping Chloe in cooking in the Harvest Moon Car. She notes that having a Pokémon with Flamethrower helps in making that nice burnt top of a creme brulee.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Is first seen comforting a Mirage Togepi, like in the Johto episode Houndoom's Special Delivery.
    • The idea of Chloe having a Houndoom partner comes from Blossoming Trail, when she notes how Lexi's pajamas in the Crayon Car invoke a Houndoom and she brings up the story of an old man who has a Houndoom as a pet.
  • Playing with Fire: His Secondary-type is Fire and one of his moves is Flamethrower.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He's a black canine with an orange muzzle and stomach and he's a Dark-type. However he's not evil — not counting the programming on him by Dr. Yung — and joins Chloe for her travels across the Train.
  • Shout-Out: Chloe named him after the canine companion from Haunting Ground.
  • Team Pet: While he's not completely senseless, he lacks the ability to talk like Atticus, and is primarily identified as Chloe's pet.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's loyal to Chloe to the point that he insists of taking Chloe to the hospital in the Palimpsest Car alongside Atticus when Lexi volunteered.
  • Walking Spoiler: Downplayed in that he's not important in the grand scheme of things, but explaining just how he joined the Uprising spoils, the hidden power that is kept in Chloe's cloak and the Heel–Face Turn the Mirage Pokemon went through.
  • You Remind Me of X: Chloe states that Hewie reminds her of an old balloon seller who also has a pet Houndoom.
