Main Factions: Elysion | Missilis Industry | Tetra Line | The Pilgrims | Abnormal

"Nikkes that wander the surface fighting Raptures. Pilgrims are a complete mystery with unknown identities and objectives."

These handfuls of Nikkes are independent of the Ark, traversing the surface outside for their own reasons in a solitary lifestyle.

  • Rare Random Drop: Pilgrims are all SSR Nikkes, so the odds of getting them are particularly low, especially since you cannot mark them in the wishlist.

Goddess

    Goddess in General
A team of Super Prototype Nikkes lead by the 1st Commander. Operating over 100 years ago in the midst of the 1st Rapture Invasion, their exploits and operatives have become the stuff of legends in the modern day.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: Goddess is obviously long defunct; Red Hood is the first to leave due to her status as a carrier of The Corruption making her a danger, Liliweiss dies sometime between Red Ash and OVER ZONE, and the Legendary Commander (who goes dark around the same period) is implied to be Andersen, whose reliance on life support from the Ark likely ties into why he went "missing", leaving the remaining members to form Pioneer...which itself is down to three after Dorothy left to form Inherit.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The members of Goddess Squad came from a variety of colorful backgrounds.
    • The Legendary Commander was a former mercenary.
    • Liliweiss was a famous ace pilot.
    • Dorothy was the daughter of a wealthy politician.
    • Rapunzel was raised from childhood to become the next Pope.
    • Snow White was a prodigy with a talent in firearms design.
    • Red Hood was a country bumpkin that was raised on the streets.
    • Scarlet was the sole survivor of a special Mass-Produced Nikke unit.

    Red Hood (UNMARKED SPOILERS!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/redhoodl2d.jpg

Element: Iron
Weapon: Wolfsbane (Sniper Rifle)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: Jeon Sook-kyung (KR), Yōko Hikasa (JP), Paris Blu (EN)

One of the six members of the Goddess Squad and a Grimms model Nikke with extraordinary strength and equally extraordinary spunk. Once a vagrant living on the streets of her hometown, she soon unwittingly found herself at the heart of the 1st Invasion as a member of the world's best chance against the Raptures. She has a taste for all things "old fashioned" and will never leave home without her trusty cassette player blasting her favorite tunes.

Somewhere along the way, long after the Fairy Tale Age of Nikkes, Red Hood's fate would find itself intertwined with another Nikke's, Rapi, paving a road to her unexpected return in the present day.

  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: Rapi is the deuteragonist of the story and the Commander's second, so for her to be taken over by an entirely different personality is a major twist.
  • Animal Motifs: Wolves — in line with her being based off Little Red Riding Hood. Most striking when she first leaves the Goddess Squad in Red Ash Story 1.
"The wolf must die under the well."
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Near the end of her Bond story, after hearing about both the good and the bad things of the Ark from Neon and Anis respectively, she directs the following questions at the latter: Does the Ark have value? Was it worth the struggles of the Goddess Squad? Is it worth it that Nikkes continue to risk their lives protecting it? Anis affirms that it does have value, that their struggle was not in vain, and that Counters and other Nikkes will continue to risk their lives protecting it.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Realizing her mistake of leaving without a proper goodbye to her comrades of the Goddess Squad, she comes to the Goddess Squad's rescue at the end of Red Ash Story 2.
  • Bowdlerise: Very minor example - her artwork is completely untouched ingame, but for ads on the Google Play Store, they zipped up her top to cover up her cleavage.
  • Bullying a Dragon: With Scarlet, twice.
    • Upon Goddess's first meeting with Scarlet, Red mockingly tells her to come fight with her "kitchen knife", only to be surprised by Scarlet obliging. She might have gotten her butt handed to her had Liliweiss not stepped in, who points out Scarlet was holding back.
    • Played with in Busybody II; Red tries to prank the swordswoman by saying true swordsmen can cut things without leaving a mark on them. Scarlet surprises her by actually doing just that, leaving Red in awe and egging Scarlet on to cut larger things until Liliweiss catches them in the act.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Red Hood is a frighteningly competent sniper. What that talent comes packaged with is a slobbish troublemaker of a girl with a massive perverted streak, and a tendency to stick her nose in other people's business.
    • One of her earliest cases was with Snow White, who she tries to help with completing a gun, but ends up making it explode. This was after convincing Snow that she'd be able to finish the gun with her plastic model experience.
    • Another example has her goading Scarlet into proving herself the best in wielding the sword, culminating in the latter cutting a fuel tank and attracting Liliweiss's attention.
    • Constantly calling her "Miss" during a stroll causes Dorothy to try and push Red Hood off a cliff. Red Hood, fearing she was serious, promises to stop calling her that... before revealing she'll only do so for the rest of the day once Dorothy agrees.
    • When Rapunzel enters a confessional to seek help for her impure thoughts, Red Hood enters the opposite side and pretends to be a "God of Desire", telling the former to keep indulging them (even suggesting to go after the Legendary Commander). Once Liliweiss shows up, Red Hood gets dragged out of the booth by the ear.
  • But Now I Must Go: Unwilling to force her friends to Mercy Kill her, Red Hood leaves the unit shortly after the failure of the attack on the Lift, wishing to perish on her own terms in her hometown before the corruption takes her. In Red Ash Story 2 though, after saving a group of refugees on their way to the Ark, and thinking about her time with the other Goddesses, she realizes what a fool she has been of leaving without a proper farewell, and rushes to the Ark to help the Goddess Squad in their fight with Anachiro.
  • Call-Back: In Red Ash, Red Hood gifts her cassette player to Snow White as she intends to leave the squad to die on her own before The Corruption completely takes her over. In Chapter 26, she does the same to Commander as she's about to inject herself with the toxin that will kill her for good, which is the only way to give control over their shared body back to Rapi, as well as save her from the Death of Personality.
  • Clone by Conversion: Unwittingly does this to Rapi when she exceeds the safe "time limit" of accessing her Hour of Power; causing Red Hood to take control of their shared body and forcibly morphs Rapi into exact replica of her old self (even transforming Rapi's clothes and weapon into carbon copies of Red Hood's own)—a process that threatens to completely erase Rapi altogether and leave Red Hood the sole occupant of the body if it isn't reversed or Red Hood herself is eliminated. Thankfully for everyone, Red Hood is not keen to stay and gladly pulls a Heroic Sacrifice on herself to spare Rapi this fate.
  • The Corrupter: Not only was she actually the one who turned Rapunzel into a sex-crazed freak, she has a lot of "study material". Red Ash also reveals 'how' it happened: Red Hood convinces Rapunzel that the magazine she gifts the latter, 'Blinding Passion: Volume 1', isn't like the previous books the former's attempted to give.
Rapunzel: This isn't some weird magazine like before, is it?
Red Hood: Of course not! Just look at the cover, it's totally normal.
  • The Corruption: It is revealed in Red Ash that Red Hood was corrupted by Raptures while she was originally alive. However, because her corruption came from an older model of Rapture, it has no immediately adverse effects and simply manifests as her eyes turning red and her demeanor changing when she is under pressure. This becomes an issue for the entire Goddess Squad as they are saddled with the knowledge that she is a ticking time bomb, causing Red Hood to struggle with how she should approach her imminent death and forcing her friends to figure out how to put her down before she goes rogue.
  • Death of Personality: In the end, her and Rapi simply cannot coexist within the same body without one of them going for good. Red Hood readily chooses to sacrifice herself for the sake of her new protégé, and takes the injection wiping her vestige away permanently without hesitation.
  • Disappointed in You: Red Hood does not appreciate Dorothy's insistence on trying to convince her to just keep Rapi's body for herself. As The Homeward Journey comes to an end, Dorothy becomes desperate, and tries to destroy the Toxin Injector needed to bring Rapi back. Red Hood replies with a bullet to Dorothy's gut, and tells her she should be ashamed of herself.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While she's willing to tease the Commander with raunchy remarks in her bond conversations, she respects Rapi's wishes and refuses to use her body to "get frisky" with him.
  • Friendly Sniper: She's genial and gregarious, if sometimes overbearing.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Red Hood's second skills gives her attacks permament Pierce damage, allowing her to hit multiple targets with one shot if they're lined up. During the Goddess Squad's rematch with Anachiro, Red Hood's rifle manages to punch a hole through two of her Glass Slipper shields and hit Anachiro, all with a single bullet at point-blank range.
  • Good All Along: After several chapters depicting her as a potential threat to the Ark, meeting Red Hood in person in Chapter 26 reveals she's anything but. She's even relieved to learn the Ark is safe, and is confused as to why she would tell Rapi to "destroy the Ark".
  • Go Out with a Smile: At the end of Chapter 26, after one last talk with Rapi, telling her to go on and live her life, Red Hood's consciousness disappears with a smile on her face.
  • Grand Theft Me: Rapi has to use her Red Hood mode for so long that command of her body has to be transferred to "another operator" due to the sheer stress it takes to use it. That other operator ends up being Red Hood, and she takes over Rapi by the end of chapter 24, although she makes it clear this was done without her being aware of it. More specifically, Rapi has two bodies compressed together to function as one unit with the other being Red Hood, and their cores clashing is what generates the extra power Red Riding Hood mode grants the former. This is seemingly wiped away permanently at the end of chapter 26, with no more threat of Red Hood overtaking Rapi's personality.
  • Hates Baths: Snow White and the Goddess squad chastise her for not only failing to maintain her weapon properly, but also never actually taking time to clean herself. She justifies it by saying Nikkes don't need to bathe, but it's just another aspect of her country hick personality.
  • Hit Me, Dammit!: When the Goddess Squad meets Scarlet for the first time, Red Hood dares her to try and take a swing at her. She did not expect that Scarlet would actually do it, blocking her blade at the last moment with her rifle. What follows is a fist fight between them that was eventually stopped by Liliweiss.
  • The Homeward Journey: The main plot for Chapter 26. After a failed attempt at injecting Red Hood with Ingrid's toxin (due to Rapi's consciousness controlling Red Hood's arm to grab the Commander's wrist), Red Hood mentions that Rapi keeps telling her to "head home". The Commander deduces that Rapi wants the group to escort Red Hood to her old hometown as part of the latter's Last Request.
  • "I Am" Song: THE RED HOOD, which plays during the Goddess' rematch with Anachiro; its lyrics describing Red Hood and her feelings during the fight.
  • Killed Off for Real: Seemingly so. After visiting her old hometown one last time, and recording one final message for her former companions of the Goddess Squad, Red Hood injects herself with the toxin Ingrid gave the Commander to kill her consciousness and bring Rapi back. A follow-up scan on Rapi also confirms Red Hood's consciousness has been completely erased from Rapi's mind, but Ingrid also remarks there's still something inside Rapi's core she can't quite identify. Considering the general conceit of the game is collecting a bunch of sexy robot babes and their limited variants, as well as previous instances of death eventually being revealed to be false, there is still hope that Red Hood is Not Quite Dead instead.
  • The Lad-ette: Compared to any of her teammates in Goddess, she's the most boyish; she has a history of roughing it out, isn't afraid of getting into scraps (especially in Scarlet's case), Hates Baths, likes plastic models, the most touchy-feely out of her squad, has no filter for her loud mouth, is an unrepentant pervert, and acts like a total freewheeler despite being one of mankind's idolized heroes. Contrast this attitude with Proper Lady Dorothy, especially in Busybody III, where the latter gets so irritated by the former's brashness she tries to push Red off a cliff.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Whatever it was that possessed her to say she'll destroy the Ark, she can't recall. She actually doesn't have that desire whatsoever when the team journey with her in chapter 26, and she can only muse that she's forgetting something important before everybody moves onto the more immediate concern of Rapi potentially being erased.
  • Lazy Bum: Despite her immense power, Red Hood is far more content lazing around listening to her music than she is fighting or doing her duties as a member of Goddess squad.
  • Leitmotif: Our Hometown, played during several cutscenes in Red Ash and Chapter 26. The song also exists in-universe, and Red Hood considers it one of her favorites (though others, like Anis and Neon, don't seem to appreciate it, much to her annoyance). When she gives the Commander her old cassette player, Red Hood requests him to give it a listen whenever he has some free time, especially if he can listen to it together with Rapi.
  • Limit Break: Red Hood's gimmick is that she has an extremely unique Burst that counts as Burst I, II, and III simultaneously (marked by a lambda sign on her Burst icon). Her Burst Skill has different effects depending on the stage it is cast, and each stage casts separately, meaning that she can perform a Full Burst completely by herself. Her Burst I and Burst II variations also reduce the cooldowns of her Burst once per battle, giving her a ton of early momentum.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Goddess's resident pervert, and the one responsible for converting Rapunzel's purity over to the lewd side. She also makes a few passes at the Commander during "Important Person" of Chapter 26:
Commander: I was curious about something.
Red Hood: You want to know my dimensions? If I tell you, then you've got to tell me what you're working with down th...
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: She took Snow White under her wing, who seems to have modeled her comically oversized sniper rifle after her own, but died some time prior to the sealing of the Ark. Or at least she appeared to, as some form of her has been able to live on inside Rapi. She also calls herself Rapi's mentor, among other things.
  • Miles to Go Before I Sleep: This winds up being enforced, as while Red Hood is more than willing to give Rapi her body back, Rapi insists on ensuring that Red Hood fulfills her last wish of returning to her hometown before she is allowed to go.
  • Nice Girl: Despite initially being presented as a potential antagonist, Red Hood has not only been Good All Along but is the kindest and most noble member of Goddess squad aside from their leader, Liliweiss, and pre-Mind Switch Snow White.
  • The Nicknamer: Among other things...
    • She's called Dorothy "Snooty" and "Miss".
    • Snow White gets "Snow".
    • Rapunzel is also subject to this in the JP dub, being called "seijo-sama" / "Saintess".
    • Counters' Commander is apparently "Handsome".
  • Not Afraid to Die: In the present, Red Hood considers herself a relic of a bygone era, and is more than willing to give Rapi's body back to her, but not before Rapi urges her to visit her old hometown one last time. Notably, when first acquired, she even calls herself as such, but also says she'll do everything in her power to help.
  • Older Is Better: Red Hood's motto: just like a fine wine, things only get better with age. Especially when it comes to her tastes in music. Others, like Snow White, Anis and Neon, don't seem to agree, and joke about growing older the longer they have to listen to Red Hood's favorite songs.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: If her goal of destroying the Ark is what it sounds like, then this would lead to the deaths of most of the remaining vestiges of humanity and doom the rest to live alone in a world overrun by the Rapture horde. She's thoroughly confused when the Commander explains that she expressed this desire, although she has a gut feeling she's missing a key memory tied to it.
  • Passing the Torch: In her final recording to her former squad mates, Red Hood asks them to stop their war against the Rapture Queen and let a new generation of Nikke take over for them.
  • The Pig-Pen: Her personal hygiene can charitably be described as lax. Snow White complained about finding spaghetti in her weapon after cleaning it out, as well as there being mushrooms growing on it.
  • Rage Breaking Point: She gets steadily more exasperated with Dorothy's attempts at convincing her to stay throughout Chapter 26, repeatedly insisting that she's made up her mind and doesn't want to sacrifice Rapi to come back, though she still keeps things peaceful. When Dorothy ignores all of that to try destroying the Injector Gun by force in the climax, to the point of shooting the Counters Commander in the legs and throwing around Anis and Neon, Red Hood can't take it anymore and shoots her.
    Red Hood: Dorothy!!!
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Dishes out a brutal one to Dorothy in the climax of Chapter 26, ripping into her for still naively believing she can bring back the good old glory days after all that's happened.
Red Hood: You should be ashamed of yourself. You call yourself a Goddess? Do you even hear yourself? You think me being alive will make everything better? Do you believe that bringing back the original members is all that it will take to restore the Goddess Squad? It won't! You know that's not what's important. It's wanting to protect humanity, deep down. Wanting to become the Goddess of Victory, mankind's final hope.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Rapi's color scheme is largely the same, but she falls under the more Red Is Heroic category. Red Hood has a far less conservative appearance and what seem suspiciously like devil horns to boot. This turns out to eventually be a Red Herring, as Red Hood is just as heroic and selfless as Rapi is.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Like normal corruption, Red Hood's corruption is indicated by her eyes turning scarlet red. Unlike normal corruption, she can turn it on and off on command due to her corruption's stagnating progress, but it will involuntarily take over if she experiences high levels of stress.
  • Rip Van Winkle: After killing Anachiro and parting ways with the Goddess Squad for real, Red Hood heads home and takes a pit stop at an abandoned house for a nap. By the time she next wakes up, she discovers that she's been asleep for 30 years, enough time that the now-abandoned surface has been reclaimed by nature, her cassette player has ceased functioning again and the internal mechanisms of her Wolfsbane have rusted over.
  • Shipper on Deck: Red Hood flat-out tells the Commander that Rapi has feelings for him, going so far as to bet that, if he were to visit Rapi at night, things would get spicy between them. Unfortunately for Red Hood, Rapi's consciousness silences her before she can finish that sentence.
Red Hood: I bet that if you were to pay her a little nocturnal visit, before long, you two would be...
  • The Slacker: Much to the exasperation of her teammates.
  • Stripperific: Rapi has a provocatively short skirt but is otherwise one of the most modestly dressed Nikkes by far. That's not the case for Red Hood, who leaves very little to the imagination. Case in point, save for her underwear, her behind is all but exposed to the elements thanks to her pants only fully covering the front of her legs.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Rapi says her goal is to destroy the Ark, but it is yet to be seen whether or not she can be swayed by the Commander to fight for them. Subverted as of Chapters 25 and 26, she's got no intention of destroying The Ark and is quite the pleasant person to be around, even being confused as to why Rapi thought she'd do that.
  • Walking Spoiler: You simply cannot mention who Red Hood actually is without delving into serious spoiler territory, and with much more story left to go at that.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Due to corruption having no known cure in her day, Red Hood considers herself a dead woman walking.

    Scarlet: Black Shadow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/past_scarlet_nikke_9.png
Element: Wind
Weapon: Fleetly Fading (Rocket Launcher)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: Jang Ye-na (KR), Reina Ueda (JP), Ratana (EN)

Scarlet during the heyday of Goddess Squad. Compared to the present day, her temperament was a lot sharper around the edges. She was recruited into Goddess Squad after ending up the sole survivor of her squad of melee-specialized Nikkes, when she accepted a duel with Liliweiss and lost from getting punched once. This version of Scarlet became playable with the New Year, New Sword story event, during which Scarlet tells the Commander of her backstory over a few cups of wine.
  • Always Second Best: To her older sister, Rose. Out of their 985 sparring matches, Scarlet's best results were 10 draws, taking 975 losses against her sister. Despite the track record stacked against her, she ultimately wins the Duel to the Death against Rose at the end of New Year, New Sword.
  • Blood Knight: Scarlet was originally much more cold and aggressive back during the 1st Invasion compared to her much more relaxed and easygoing behavior in the modern day. This also made it difficult for her to get along with the rest of the Goddess Squad, especially since she was a relatively recent addition compared to the rest of its members.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Red Ash reveals that during the 1st Invasion, Scarlet originally wore more conventional attire with a deep black and grey color scheme accented red, similar in style to Elysion's Absolute Squad. New Year, New Sword reveals that it was a modified version of the standard issue uniform for the Melee Unit.
  • Flashback Episode: Just like Snow White: Innocent Days, her Advise sessions are shown as current Scarlet having a flashback to her time when she first joined the Goddess Squad, talking to the Legendary Commander instead of the playable one.
  • Flawed Prototype: Despite the stellar results Scarlet and the rest of the melee specialized mass-production Nikkes delivered, they were never intended to be fully mass-produced beyond the initial limited run of ten units due to being too resource intensive. Stemming from their lowered durability in exchange for flexibility, leading to increased casualty rates in operations and the increased risk of Mind Switch from the nature of being up close and personal with Raptures.
  • Irony: Much like how she initially wrote off farming in OVER ZONE, Scarlet hated alcohol when she got her first taste, calling it far too bitter for her palate.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Keeping in line with modern Scarlet playing differently from your average Assault Rifle user, Black Shadow has very unusual stats compared to standard Rocket Launcher units, having very short charge time and extremely high firing speed and animation in exchange for a low base power modifier and explosive radius.
  • Parrying Bullets: During her contest with Red Hood, after initially dodging the latter's rifle shots, Scarlet realizes she's unable to close the distance between the two by just dodging, leading to her attempting to parry Red Hood's bullets instead. Eventually, she becomes adept enough to split them mid-air, causing her and Red Hood to forget about their contest and continue to train.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to her sister Rose's Blue Oni. While Rose was carefree and outgoing, Scarlet had a no-nonsense, serious attitude. She would, however, take on her sister's characteristics as time passed.
  • Sole Survivor: Scarlet claims to be the last surviving member of a generation of mass-produced Nikkes specializing in close-quarters combat, hence her signature armament being a sword. Melee weapons were quickly phased out of service in favor of firearms due to the massive casualty rates Nikkes sustained. Red Ash confirms this when the Goddess Squad finds her surrounded by the remains of her old unit. However, due to a lack of bullet wounds and an abundance of slashing marks, it's implied her unit was wiped out due to in-fighting instead of Raptures. When asked if she was responsible for the death of her fellow Nikkes, Scarlet dodges the question, telling the Goddess Squad to leave her alone.
Scarlet: Leave this place. Do not desecrate my friend's battlefield.
    • Explained further in New Year, New Sword. After their squad was reduced from ten members to only six, Scarlet's sister Rose learns that the Melee Squad was intentionally sent on increasingly harder missions with the goal of culling the weak until only one Nikke remains. This reveal caused Rose to rebel, killing her commander and the other Nikkes present, before challenging Scarlet to one final Duel to the Death, with Scarlet emerging victorious.
  • Sore Loser: As shown at the beginning of her Bond Story, she does not accept her defeat at Liliweiss's hands, claiming that she was not prepared to fight her when they first met, and demands a rematch before she officially joins. Even when prepared, the rematch goes as well as expected: Liliweiss sends her flying so hard she ends up lodged in the ceiling.
  • Super Prototype: Downplayed. The real reason behind her, and by extension the entire Melee Squad's creation. Weed out the weaker members of the squad by sending them on increasingly more difficult missions until only one Nikke remains, and upgrade them into a Grimms model Nikke. However, they are noted to sacrifice durability in exchange for flexibility.
  • Throwing Down the Gauntlet: After joining the Goddess Squad proper, Scarlet decides to challenge each member individually to evaluate where she stands in terms of physical prowess among the others. Liliweiss agrees for the others, on the condition that they can decide the form of the duel.
    • Rapunzel chooses a prayer contest (or meditation for Scarlet), whoever moves or falls asleep first loses. Scarlet is shown to be asleep 10 hours in, losing the contest.
    • Snow White chooses a contest over who can assemble their weapon first. Before Scarlet even has a chance to grab the hilt of her sword, Snow White is already done.
    • Red Hood chooses "hide and seek", with a time limit of 10 minutes and Scarlet having to physically touch Red Hood in order to win. While Scarlet easily spots her, she did not expect Red Hood opening fire on her to prevent her from getting closer. The two ultimately forget about the contest when Scarlet decides to train her reflexes by deflecting Red Hood's rifle shots.
    • Dorothy initially declines, not caring about the contest. However, after Scarlet points out it would mean Dorothy forfeits, she recalls her previous statement, even letting Scarlet choose the kind of contest, confident she will win. Scarlet challenges her to arm wrestling. While they are shown to be evenly matched, a comment from Red Hood makes Dorothy lose focus, letting Scarnet win.
    • At the end of her Bond Story, it is revealed Liliweiss used each contest so the rest of the squad can evaluate Scarlet on their own terms. Rapunzel is impressed at Scarlet's concentration and body control. Snow White notes how Scarlet is perceptive enough to make sense of the former assembling her rifle. Red Hood is amazed how fast she could master splitting her bullets in half mid-air. Even Dorothy has to admit that, despite the hard data saying a Grimms-model Nikke like her should beat a mass-produced model like Scarlet in terms of raw strength, she had to use all of her power against Scarlet.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Her sword, Fleetly Fading, previously belonged to her sister, Rose. New Year, New Sword's ending further reveals that, after she took it, Scarlet met a "skilled blacksmith" (implied to be Snow White), who tempered the already cracked blade using Rose's core, allowing her to keep using it for nearly a century.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Red Ash shows she had this dynamic with Dorothy. To say the two didn't get along would be an understatement, with them getting into fights on a regular basis, both physically and verbally. The only thing they could agree on was their shared love for tea. Thus, when Liliweiss appoints Dorothy as acting leader of the Goddess Squad in her absence, Scarlet not-so-subtly hints she's not exactly willing to listen to Dorothy's orders... until Liliweiss promises her her long-awaited one-on-one match, should she behave.

    Snow White: Innocent Days
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smol_white_nikke.png
Element: Iron
Weapon: Seven Dwarves II (Assault Rifle)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: So Yeon (KR), M·A·O (JP), Laura Stahl (EN)

This is Snow White as she was when she originally joined Goddess Squad back in the first days of the Rapture Invasion. She was immediately taken in as an understudy by Liliweiss and Red Hood. She was made playable as a free character for the story event Red Ash.
  • Area of Effect: Compared to current Snow White, who primarily focuses on nuking single targets with massive damage, "Innocent Days" primarily focuses on blowing up large crowds by persistently blasting the field with targeted area of effect attacks and screen nuking moves.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: When she was part of the Goddess Squad, Snow White was the youngest and most immature member of the unit. This makes it pretty easy for Red Hood to mess around with her.
  • Beyond the Impossible: When challenged by Scarlet, Snow White decides the contest should be about who can assemble their weapon faster, despite Scarlet pointing out how such a contest clearly favors her sword over Snow White's assault rifle. Snow White finishes assembling her gun before Scarlet can even grab the hilt of her sword.
  • Call-Forward: Red Hood's description of Snow White's Memory of Goddess character pretty much fits the type of character she eventually grows up to become, including the badass one-liner.
"If you believe in the Creator, you better start praying."
  • Flashback Episode: Her Advice sessions are justified by current Snow White having a flashback to the days of her youth and chatting with the 1st Commander (rather than the playable one).
  • Gadgeteer Genius: According to Red Hood, Snow White has an exceptional skill at weapons development. She is also responsible for developing the "battle simulation" that Red Hood plays in the Red Ash event minigame.
  • Guns Akimbo: She wields her assault rifle and sniper rifle in this style during her Burst animation.
  • Hero-Worshipper: She becomes this for Liliweiss after seeing her in battle, finding her unparalleled strength mesmerizing that she decides not having a weapon is what's right for her despite all the time spent making trying to create one.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Her Bond Episodes are titled "Pure White (NOUN)."
  • Parting-Words Regret: When Red Hood leaves after the failure of the space elevator mission, Snow's pleas for her to stay turn into a declaration of hatred. After Red returns to help defeat Anachiro, they are able to clear the air between them.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Snow White takes Red Hood's decision to eventually leave the squad the hardest since she is her closest friend, getting mad when the latter speaks of her Rapture corruption lightly. Even as Red Hood walks away after the failed assault on the Lift, Snow White begs her not to go with tears streaming down her face. Then in Red Ash Story 2, Snow White tells Red Hood It Has Been an Honor as they part on better terms; the sentiment gets echoed back at her.
  • Shrinking Violet: Started off as this. After her transformation into a Nikke and being assigned to the Goddess Squad, she stayed in her room crafting weapons instead of interacting with the other members. It wasn't until Liliweiss started talking to her that she mustered up the courage to get out of her shell and join the Goddess Squad proper.
  • Wrench Wench: On top of being a Gadgeteer Genius, she's also an expert of maintaining and repairing weapons, even in the middle of combat. While defending a weapons depository, things go south when an EMP causes Dorothy and Rapunzel's weapons to malfunction. Just as the Legendary Commander orders the Goddess Squad to retreat, Snow White shows up and repairs their weapons in one minute flat, allowing them to turn the battle in their favor.
  • You Don't Look Like You: While the other playable characters in the Memory of Goddess minigame look like their past selves, Red Hood notices that Snow White's character looks different, as her character's appearance is based on present Snow White. Red Hood assumes that this is the kind of person she wants to become in the future.

Pioneer

"Nikkes, who wander on the surface, are also called Pilgrims. While they all stay on the surface for different purposes, they have sworn to protect humans."

    Pioneer in General
The remnants of the Goddess Squad, a team of Super Prototype Nikkes whose existence and feats date back all the way to the First Rapture Invasion. Once a team of seven, including the First Commander, some of their members have perished or disappeared during the war. The surviving members, after completing their final mission together, chose to split up and seek their own paths toward defeating the Rapture Queen and reclaiming the surface.
  • A Day in the Limelight: OVER ZONE is a flashback of the late stages of the First Invasion, when the remnants of the Goddess Squad before Pioneer came to be, and Dorothy still as their acting leader, defended the Ark.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the end of part 1 of the Last Kingdom event, they arrive just in time to support Kilo and Marian with defending Crown's castle from Chatterbox's army of Raptures, with Rapunzel later providing support to save Chime's life after Crown returns with her body.
  • The Corrupter: While travelling together with Marian, they teach her several life lessons to prepare her for the future challenges ahead, which sadly also results in her picking up all of their worst traits, realizing too late what they have done.
Scarlet: What kind of monster have we created?
  • Fairytale Motifs: Most of them are named after fairy tales, including now-Inherit member Dorothy and the late Red Hood, with the odd one out being Lilith.Note. Red Hood reveals that was done on purpose in-universe with the Grimms models, to evoke the idea of a fairytale ending.
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: The Good to Inherit's Bad and the Heretics' Evil. Every member of Pioneer, while having their quirks, is dedicated to fighting the Raptures on behalf of humanity, even though several decades have passed since they were abandoned and left to die.
  • Had to Be Sharp: On top of their experience as veterans of the First Invasion, decades of living on the mostly barren surface without the Ark's support has toughened them more considerably compared to present day Nikkes of the Ark.
  • Old Soldier: All three girls of Pioneer, as well as Dorothy, are remnants of the Goddess Squad, who fought during the First Invasion of the Raptures.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Red Hood, one of the Goddess Squad's members, perished before Operation: Ark Guardian, but a portion of her and/or her powers persist within Rapi to an unknown capacity and act as her Dangerous Forbidden Technique.
  • Straight for the Commander: OVER ZONE reveals that the reason they're all Walking the Earth is to locate and destroy the Rapture Queen.
  • Super Prototype: Their bodies and technology come from an age the Ark has long since lost in the past, making them superior to most of the Ark's own Nikkes. It's also why Pioneer avoids contact with the Ark, given that the top brass would dissect them for said technology like they tried to do with Marian in Chapter 14.
  • Uncertain Doom: The official story in the Ark is that no one knows what happened to the Goddess Squad after Operation: Ark Guardian and they seemingly disappeared. Of course, this can be inferred to be a manufactured element of their story, since it wouldn't reflect well on the government if the public knew that they locked them out of the Ark and left them to die.
  • Undying Loyalty: To humanity. Despite the Ark almost literally shutting their doors in the girls' faces and leaving them out to dry, all three of them keep fighting for their sake, Snow White especially.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While they meant well, their decision to let Dorothy continue living with her delusion of the deceased Pinne as they all split up ended up causing more problems in the long run. Being by her lonesome enabled Dorothy to indulge in said delusion to an increasingly unhealthy degree. And when she does eventually come to her senses, she has no one to turn to for emotional support which leads her to be consumed by her feelings of emptiness, betrayal, and rage, setting her up to becoming the cold-hearted human-hating manipulator she is today.

    Rapunzel

Rapunzel in Red Ash

Element: Iron
Weapon: Holy Grace (Rocket Launcher)
Class: Supporter
Voiced by: Lee Seul (KR), Suzuko Mimori (JP), Tamara Fritz (EN)

A Grimms model Nikke and former member of the Goddess Squad. As one of the unit's more prolific members, she was once deemed to be the future head of her religious organization prior to her conversion to a Nikke. Unlike the rest of her squadmates, Rapunzel's specialty lies in defense and support, with her staff, Holy Grace, and unique hair having the ability to ward and repel enemies.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up in Chapter 17 to rescue and tend to the Commander after he's been betrayed and shot by the traitorous Exotic Team in the prior chapter.
  • Combat Medic: Rapunzel has the ability to heal other allies for a small percentage of their max HP whenever she fires a round from her staff. Her Burst I is also unique in that it is the only ability in the game that can resurrect a fallen ally.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Part 2 of OVER ZONE reveals that her ability to extract and commune with the NIMPH of dead Nikkes was not something Rapunzel could always do. Rather, she developed the ability while revealing her wish to be able to hear the thoughts of the dead, so she could lay them to rest in according with their wishes and help them pass on in peace.
  • Confessional: After enough exposure to Red Hood's "learning material" has corrupted her mind to the point she starts seeing her own staff as a "certain part of a man's body", she visits a confessional to seek help. To her surprise, she hears a voice from the other side, calling itself the "God of Desire" (actually Red Hood), telling her to immerse herself even more in impure thoughts, and go after the only man among the Goddess Squad. However, Liliweiss shows up and drags Red Hood out of the confessional by the ear, leaving Rapunzel alone to let off some steam.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Poor Rapunzel was pure as snow until she met Red Hood and her stash of porn magazines. Repeated exposure to them eventually turned her into the horny nun we have in the present day.
  • Deflector Shields: In Red Ash, her staff's halos have the ability to project a defensive force field that repels most attacks. However, this power is not infinite and will run out if Rapunzel's energy reserves are depleted.
  • Due to the Dead: Her later 3 Bond Episodes involve her and the Commander coming across the aftermath of a battle. Not only does Rapunzel insist on repositioning the fallen Nikkes to give them some dignity in death, praying for them all the while, she also extracts their NIMPH and lays them to rest in a beautiful field according to one of the dead Nikkes' wishes, laying some strands of her hair on the burial mound to ensure the Rapture never spoil it.
  • Extreme Libido: Incredibly horny at all times and cannot stop thinking about sex even when she doesn't want to. White Memory reveals that she got it from Red Hood, who would constantly tease her by showing her porn magazines containing scantily-clad men and women.
  • Fanservice Pack: Inverted; her outfit during the 1st Invasion is considerably less conservative than her current armor-dress style, with a form-fitting standard dress combination that accentuates her breasts and thighs more obviously than her style of dress at the end of the 1st Invasion.
  • Jumped at the Call: While she was still human, Rapunzel was the leading candidate for becoming the next pope. However, seeing the suffering unleashed around the world when the Raptures appeared, she realized faith alone was not enough to overcome this crisis, and decided to take action. When she heard stories about the Goddess Squad, she was determined to become a Nikke worthy of joining them.
  • The Load: Slips into this for the first part of OVER ZONE, spending all of her time praying and doing nothing to help Goddess Squad fix the numerous problems the last Rapture attack caused them (destroying their food stores, knocking out their electricity, etc.). Thankfully, she starts stepping up again after Dorothy asks for her help directly and pleads with her to stop living the past.
  • Magic Hair: Much like the fairy tale character she is named after, Rapunzel possesses extremely long golden locks that have jamming qualities that block detection from Raptures, which can be applied to an area if she spreads it around. This hair even allows her to temporarily neutralize nearby Raptures.
  • Nice Girl: When she's not lost in dirty thoughts, which is surprisingly common, Rapunzel is a sweet and supportive Nikke who often gives assurance and support to the Commander whenever he has doubts about his chosen path.
  • Nun Too Holy: Downplayed, while her Extreme Libido does give her plenty of less than wholesome moments, Rapunzel is for the most part legitimately devoted to ensuing that dead Nikkes and humans are given a dignified passing, prays diligently for the lost and lends emotional support and a friendly ear to the Counters Commander whenever he needs it.
  • Sexy Priest: Her wardrobe, powers and libido definitely paint her like this.
  • Symbol Swearing: At one point, the Commander catches Rapunzel deep in prayer as he's falling asleep, during which she is confessing all of her unrestrained sexual fantasies that she wants to do the Commander, helpfully indicated by the "naughty" words being substituted by symbols. The Commander decides to sleep with one eye open that night, just in case.
  • That Came Out Wrong: If she's in a squad, she'll say this when ordered to move.
"You want me to get on it? W-wait, that didn't come out right!"
  • You Remind Me of X: Confesses in her final Bond Episode that the Commander reminds her very much of the man who led the original Pilgrims (or Goddess Squad, as they were known back then) during the First Rapture Invasion, the very first Commander, who treated them as equals and humans just as the Commander himself does in the present.

    Scarlet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_3506_2.jpeg

Element: Electric
Weapon: Fleetly Fading (Assault Rifle)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: Jang Ye-na (KR), Reina Ueda (JP), Ratana (EN)

A experimental specialized mass-production Nikke and former member of the Goddess Squad. Hailing from a failed melee combat unit, Scarlet joined the team as a fresh newcomer eager for the chaos and spoils of war, but eventually came out of the 1st Invasion mellowed and humbled. When she's not fighting off Raptures on the surface, she tends to spend the passing time farming for leisure and having a sip or two of her favorite alcohol. Most notably, she was the final Nikke, and the only non-Grimms model other than Lilith, to join the Goddess Squad.
  • The Alcoholic: Scarlet loves to drink despite the fact that she can hardly hold her beer. When asked why she continues to do so, she claims that "I'm an adult".
  • Always Second Best: Rapunzel's Bond Episodes reveal that she was this to Lilith, the original leader of Goddess Team, with Rapunzel stating that as proficient and battle hungry as Scarlet was, she never managed to best Lilith in a fight.
  • Blade Spam: While she's classified as an assault rifle, she's really slashing up Raptures with her katana.
That said, it is not necessarily that this element of her personality went away, but she merely learned how to suppress it, if dialogue from Second Affection is any indication.
  • Beneath the Mask: For all her laid-back and carefree antics, Second Affection shows that Scarlet is still hurting and angry over the state of the world, to the point that her 'happy thoughts' are of murdering the Rapture Queen as revenge for everything the Raptures have done.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Despite one of her main character traits being her love of alcohol, she is comically lightweight and will get wasted almost immediately within a single serving.
  • Cast From HP: Her Skill 1, Rip & Tear, boosts her ATK while consuming her HP. This plays into the rest of her skills running off Critical Status Buff that activate when her HP is below certain percentages.
  • Combat Stilettos: Her shoes stand somewhere between stilettos and stilts.
  • Critical Status Buff: Zatoichi grants her a Critical Damage bonus when it activates if her HP is below 60%. Her Burst Skill, Scarlet Flash, boosts her Critical Rate at activation if she is at 50% HP or lower.
  • Death of Personality: Scarlet reveals in New Year, New Sword that she suffered not just one, but several Mind Switches, which cost her a majority of her memories. Considering her personality at the time of the 1st Rapture Invasion during Red Ash, it is possible one of those caused her to adapt her current, laidback personality, which is similar to that of her sister, Rose.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: How Scarlet was drafted into the Goddess Squad. When they came across the aftermath of a battle amongst a group of mass-produced Nikkes specializing in melee combat, they are approached by the sole survivor, Scarlet, telling them to get lost. This leads to a fist fight between Red Hood and Scarlet, until Liliweiss intervenes (saving Red Hood's hide, as Scarlet was holding back). Impressed by her combat prowess, she wants to recruit the swordswoman into their ranks. Scarlet agrees... if they can defeat her. Liliweiss knocks her out cold in a single punch.
  • Discard and Draw: Her damage output per hit is far higher than any other Assault Rifle user. However, she also has the smallest magazine size out of any non-SG/RL user in the game at only 20 rounds per clip, and she has extremely long reload times that practically requires her to be paired up with a unit that boosts reload speed.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: In OVER ZONE Story I, the Goddess Squad finds a cache of spirits among the surviving food supplies that weren't destroyed by the Raptures and Scarlet almost immediately goes to drinking the days away to deal with the struggle of constant war against the Raptures. Dorothy and Pinne find out that she's faking it by drinking water and decide to perk up her spirits by playing along, convincing her to get back on her feet and continue fighting.
  • Flowery Elizabethan English: This is how she speaks, using "thou", "hast" and "gramercy", if only to add to her samurai personality. This gets commented on by Rose in New Year, New Sword, who remarks that her sister probably didn't speak like that prior to becoming a Nikke, with Scarlet replying that she has no idea why she talks like this.
Scarlet: Mind thy apparel, thou ox! Should'st a bee slip in, thou shall be stung for sure.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Well, to the Raptures, anyway. She started out as a mass-produced Nikke, who then eventually gained her legendary status as one of the most formidable Pilgrims.
  • From Zero to Hero: Scarlet began life as one of many mass-produced Nikkes in an experimental squad using melee weapons instead of firearms, becoming the lone survivor of the massive causality rates that came with bringing melee weapons to a war determined at range, continually honing her skills till she was recruited by Goddess Squad itself and became a Living Legend by the present day. New Year, New Sword reveals her to be a downplayed example. The Melee Squad was never very large, and the mass-produced Nikkes in the squad had significant modifications (to the point that the small size of the squad was due to them costing too much). The plan was always for one of them to become a Grimms Nikke, with the squad being sent into increasingly dangerous missions with the goal of turning the last member left into a Grimm model. The Squad was quite skilled, only losing a few members to Raptures (and some to Mind Switches) before Scarlet's sister, Rose, found out about the plan and killed their commander and several squadmates before forcing Scarlet to duel her to the death in order to ensure Scarlet would be the one to become a Grimms model.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Partially averted. When she first got recruited by the Goddess Squad, they found her amidst the corpses of what seem to be her squad (it's unknown if they were corrupted or not) and it's implied that Scarlet killed them all. New Year, New Sword reveals that her sister, Rose, killed their remaining squadmates, while Scarlet killed two who had sided with Rose, then forced Scarlet to kill her, after finding out that the purpose of the Melee Squad was to be sent on increasingly dangerous missions until there was only one survivor.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Her "gun" is actually her just sheathing and unsheathing her katana at incredibly high speed, which shoots Sword Beams at enemies. Red Ash reveals that it was actually Red Hood who inspired her to learn this fighting style.
  • Irony: In OVER ZONE, Scarlet finds a seed packet while Goddess Squad is inspecting the damage to their rations from a sudden Rapture attack. She determines that the seeds are inedible as food and quickly disposes of it, having written it off as useless junk. Come the present day and Scarlet would eventually take up farming as a hobby.
  • Lying to Protect Your Feelings: During the Second Affection Side Story, she tries to cheer up Marian by telling them to only think about the times they were happy to make them last longer. When Scarlet gets asked what her happy thoughts are, the dialogue reveals some... unsettling insight into her mind.
Scarlet: (thinking) I think of cutting the Queen's throat.
Scarlet: I think about the beauty of nature.
Marian: What makes that so good?
Scarlet: (thinking) How wonderful it would feel to slash the throat of the one responsible for making the world what it has become.
Scarlet: Gazing at it's majesty provides a pleasure that never diminishes.
  • Never Bring a Gun to a Knife Fight: Scarlet originates from an experimental combat division that specialized in handling melee weapons. The experiment was ultimately deemed a failure as Scarlet was the only survivor and Nikke technology evolved to use firearms instead, but as the only surviving sword wielder in a war determined by firepower, Scarlet is uniquely positioned to have an edge over her Rapture enemies just because a melee weapon in a gunfight is so unexpected that Rapture tech isn't equipped to handle her.
  • Rōnin: While her conical hat and katana lets her take after the Samurai archetype, her penchant for wandering the surface and lack of a commander to take orders from makes this trope fit her better.
  • Sole Survivor: The last surviving member of her unit, a melee-focused squad armed with katanas. The New Year, New Sword event reveals that the circumstances behind her and her squad are much more complicated than she initially let on.

    Snow White

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_3507.jpeg

Element: Iron
Weapon: Seventh Dwarf (JP)/Seven Dwarves (EN) (Assault Rifle)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: So Yeon (KR), M·A·O (JP), Laura Stahl (EN)

A Grimms model Nikke and former member of the Goddess Squad. She is the first Pilgrim the heroes encounter in the main story and one of their closest allies. Once a bright and perky young woman, the horrors and trauma of the 1st Invasion irrevocably changed her, transforming her into a stoic, hardened warrior. She roams the surface hunting Raptures, all in the name of pursuing and killing the Rapture Queen.
  • All for Nothing: Discussed and Defied in OVER ZONE, with Snow White brushing off Dorothy's insistence that nothing they did throughout the event mattered thanks to the Ark shutting them out, replying that managing to protect humanity's final stronghold until it was sealed, saving the species in doing so, is a grand achievement no one can take away. She also dissuades Dorothy from attempting any Revenge schemes by pointing out that, if she does lash out at and even break open the Ark, then she really will be nullifying all the effort and sacrifices that brought them this far to begin with.
  • The Aloner: While the Goddess Squad have split up and turned into the wandering Pilgrim Nikkes up on the surface who spend months alone at a time, Snow White sticks out for actually going on hunting trips by herself in search of the Rapture Queen, intent on putting her down and ending the threat of Raptures once and for all. This mindset ties into her sense of duty and deep love for her fellow Nikkes, preferring to shoulder the responsibility of ending the Rapture war by herself instead of involve anybody else. Considering her suspicions the Rapture Queen is Lillith, her former mentor, this mentality is reinforced and she continues to operate solo whenever she can. Although the player Commander has started butting in as his own quest to liberate the Nikkes starts slowly overlapping with her own to slay the Queen.
  • Arch-Enemy: The Rapture Queen, as she spends practically all of her time on the surface hunting her down. She pursues her servants, like Chatterbox, with a single minded obsession that borders on madness. It's implied she's long since discounted the possibility of the Ark or even her fellow Pilgrims being able to stop the threat. This is because she suspects the Rapture Queen is Lillith, and through a mix of calculus and feeling obligated to finish off her former mentor, has decided to wage the war in as solitary a capacity as she can.
  • Artificial Limbs: While difficult to notice ingame due to her coat covering her upper body, her official MMD model confirms her entire right arm is artificial.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She saves the Counters, Mihara and Yuni from Chatterbox in Chapter 4. She does it again in Chapter 6 when she rescues the Commander from Chatterbox's "interrogation."
  • Big Eater: The Commander's fridge will almost always end up empty whenever she comes to visit him. It's noted that this is one of the few traits she retained from her pre-Mind Switch personality.
  • Birds of a Feather: Admits that this is why she likes the Commander in her 4th Affection Episode, saying that neither of them compromise in trying to save everyone they can.
  • Boring, but Practical: While her anti-material rifle is fairly advanced, her assault rifle is noted to be fairly simple and barebones, as it needs to be reliable and easy to maintain with what parts she can find on the surface. Tellingly, her Innocent Days version, from before everything fell apart, has more attachments on her rifle than the incredibly stripped down version she now carries.
  • The Cavalry: Plays this role in Chapter 13, showing up to engage Chatterbox one last time to keep it from interfering in Counters' mission to destroy the underground Rapture facility.
  • Charge Attack: Her Burst effectively changes her weapon to a glorified sniper rifle with a single bullet. Catch is, it has a 1000% charge multiplier, enough to rip a massive hole into whatever you point it at. Pump enough multipliers into her with gear and a good team and she can One-Hit Kill bosses entirely, including Special Interceptions!
  • Death of Personality: Snow White underwent a Mind Switch during the First Invasion, which permanently altered her personality but was lucky enough to keep her sanity and her memories. Her Innocent Days version shows that she used to be a more lively person before the incident, but following the Mind Switch she's now The Stoic.
  • Declaration of Protection: Gives one to the Counters Commander as they get closer.
Bond Level Up I: I'll protect you no matter what, even if it costs me my life.
  • Did You Think I Can't Feel?: As Dorothy is ripping into her for seemingly brushing off the Ark abandoning the team near the end of Part 2 of OVER ZONE, Snow White firmly responds that of course she's angry too, but lashing out at the Ark for Revenge won't solve anything and they still have a job to do.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Her appetite is both massive and indiscriminatory.
  • Fundoshi: Her choice of underwear, according to her official MMD model, are panties made of bandages wrapped around her groin.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: If the Hidden Ending of White Memory is to be believed, seeing Liliweiss's headless body was extremely unhealthy for Snow White's psyche.
  • I Call It "Vera": Her weapons are called the 7 Dwarves.
  • It's All My Fault: Admits that she blames herself for not killing Chatterbox fast enough, giving it time to infect Marian directly and forcing her to go through Death of Personality via Mind-Reformat Death to cleanse her of The Corruption, which is why she's willing to both let Anis punch her for it in Chapter 13 and honour the Commander's request for the Pilgrims to take in and watch over the amnesiac Marian, to protect her from various interested parties in the Ark, in Chapter 14.
  • It's Personal: White Memory heavily implies that Snow White's hunt for the Rapture Queen is motivated by her actually being Goddess Squad's former leader Liliweiss, in addition to Snow White being traumatised by finding Liliweiss' decapitated body in White Memory's Omega Ending.
  • Karmic Jackpot: In stark contrast to her teammate Dorothy, Snow White's been soldiering on and continuing her war against the Raptures in humanity's name, even after getting badly screwed over by them. While it takes decades, this devotion does eventually start getting rewarded in the present day: she meets, helps and bonds with a sincerely empathetic human who wants to help Nikkes everywhere, rekindling her determination to liberate the surface for humanity and giving her something else to care about besides good food and a comfy night's sleep, both of which are in plentiful supply at The Outpost which she can visit at any time.
  • The Leader: Seems to take an unspoken position of authority among the remaining members of the original Goddess squad after Lilith's death and Dorothy's defection. The OVER ZONE event reveals she had to step up to the plate after Dorothy suffered Sanity Slippage in the aftermath of being forced to Mercy Kill Pinne, and then turning against mankind for being betrayed.
  • Love Epiphany: One of her post-Bond 10 and a couple of Bond Level up lines have this flavour, with Snow White coming to realise that the Counters Commander has become very important to her and thinking back on the time they spent together very fondly.
Lobby I (Bond 10): I often think about that time you and I camped out in the wilderness... It always reminds me how good it can feel having company.
Bond Level Up II: When it's all over, I hope you will be there.
Bond Level Up III: I just realised, besides eating well and sleeping well, I have another desire. And that is being with you.
  • Man of Kryptonite: To Chatterbox, since her anti-material rifle is one of the few weapons capable of damaging Chatterbox faster than its Healing Factor can repair it.
  • Obsessed with Food: Tying right in with her being Too Desperate to Be Picky most of the time, Snow White gets excited at the prospect of even Splendamin-based meals when the Commander offers them to her. In OVER ZONE, she's visibly salivating at the prospect of eating a cooked deer.
  • Old Soldier: Chapter 7 has her reveal she's been fighting since the first Rapture invasion.
  • The Stoic: Very calm and controlled almost all the time and rarely emotes visibly. As it turns out this is thanks to a Mind Switch, and pre-Mind Switch Snow White was described as being more exuberant and emotive, which gets shown directly in the Red Ash event.
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: Eats pretty much any food that she comes across on the surface for sustenance, despite almost all of it being rotten. Luckily, as a Nikke, she can turn off her sense of taste and doesn't get sick from this.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: She's rather pessimistic when first acquired, bemoaning that humans and Nikkes have already failed and the surface isn't theirs to return to. By the time you've gotten her to Bond 10, she's changed her mind about that.
Lobby II: We have not achieved anything, we do not deserve to return to the surface.
Lobby III (Bond 10): I will not stop until the surface has been reclaimed and returned to its rightful owners.
  • Walking Armory: Compared to most other Nikkes, who at most may carry two weapons on them, Snow White's "Seven Dwarves" consists of that many weapons - ones we see for sure include the large sniper rifle used in her Burst Skill, as well as a twin-barreled cannon and a missile pod which also attack during her skill. Evidently, the assault rifle she uses normally isn't part of that set either.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Her AFK voiceline in the lobby show her seemingly berate the commander (the Player) for... Well not being on surface. Her tone of voice has a subtil Tranquil Fury to it, giving her personal mission to recapture the surface for the humans.
Set to Lobby: Why don't you do something? Our bodies are full of energy and we're letting it go to waste. We should at least try and save some more people. Even one will still make a difference.
Set to Lobby (Bond lv.10): Meanwhile, the Raptures are running wild on the surface. We mustn't waste any time annihilating them.
  • Wrench Wench: Is perfectly capable of maintaining her own weapons, and even fixes an abandoned car in her final Affection Episode.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Snaps Dorothy out of her second breakdown, this one over the Ark abandoning them, near the end of OVER ZONE by pointing out that they are still Goddess Team and they still managed to save humanity, both things to take pride in instead of succumbing to despair.

Inherit

"The Pilgrims with the most advanced technology. They fight to reclaim the surface, but not for humanity's sake. As such, they are both mankind's last hope and biggest threat."

    Inherit in General
A squad of Nikkes who work in service of Eden. Led by Eden's founding Nikke, Dorothy, and their commander, Johan, they mostly keep to themselves, hiding themselves from the Ark and its inhabitants.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: Varies for each of the members. Dorothy wears a frilly white dress that outlines her upper body, with her armor clinging tightly onto her; Harran and Isabel wear futuristic leotards, and Noah subverts the trope by wearing full-body armor.
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: The Bad to Pioneer's Good and the Heretics' Evil. Every member of Inherit has at least one noteworthy character flaw that puts them at odds with the Commander or even the Ark as a whole. However, they are nonetheless committed to fighting the Raptures, and are not above teaming up with the heroes when warranted.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Compared to most other Nikke squads, Inherit are not nice people, at least on the surface. Dorothy is manipulative, Harran is arrogant, Isabel is unstable and Noah is... a troll.

Nostalgia (alternate version)

Excepting bond episodes, spoilers unmarked up to main story Chapter 20!

Element: Water
Weapon: Ungrateful OZ (Assault Rifle)
Class: Supporter
Voiced by: Kim Sae-hae (KR), Chiwa Saitō (JP), Megan Shipman (EN)

A Grimms model Nikke, the squad leader of Team Inherit, creator and leader in all but name of Eden and former leader of the Goddess Squad, serving as a mediator and advisor to Johan. Though her benevolence and deed as the founder of Eden gives her much popularity, underneath this bright exterior is a dark-hearted willingness to commit any wrong for the sake of Nikke-kind.

She debuts in Chapter 19 to welcome the Commander to Eden.
  • The Ace: Despite having no practical combat experience whatsoever when joining the Goddess Squad, Dorothy managed to pass Liliweiss's tests with flying colors. Liliweiss even notes Dorothy might have broken some records and wonders if she really hasn't been on the battlefield before.
  • Ambiguously Bi: On one hand, Dorothy acts somewhat affectionate towards the Commander, a confirmed male, during her advising sessions should her bond with him be maxed out. On the other hand, she and Pinne shared romantic undertones during their conversation near the end in the OVER ZONE event. With said undertones happening in Dorothy's head, it's like that's what she wanted her and Pinne to become should she have lived. Pushed even further with the release of her "Nostalgia" gacha skin during the game's 1st Anniversary event, with Dorothy possessing and cuddling a Pinne doll the same way Modernia does her Commander doll.
  • Anti-Hero: The current Dorothy is very much in this war to satiate her own ego and bathe in the respect that she feels that she deserves, but ultimately she is still on humanity's side despite her dubious motives and methods.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: For all they've argued in the past, especially on Dorothy's part disliking Red Hood's boorish personality, her first reaction to seeing Red Hood in Chapter 26 is to run at her and go in for a hug.
  • Beneath the Mask: She puts on a good act of being kind and helpful, but beneath that there's a malicious Manipulative Bitch willing to do whatever's needed to get what she wants. Beneath that, there's a lonely Nikke who, despite all that's happened to her, wants to care and be cared about by humans again.
  • Berserk Button:
    • She reacts poorly to the Commander showing sympathy or kindness to her, believing that it's just an act and there's no way a human could be that kind to a Nikke without some ulterior motive.
    • She gets pissed again in her 4th Bond Episode once the Commander thanks her for her prior service in Goddess Squad, demanding to know if he really thinks just one thank you is enough to make up for all that's happened. That said, as the final episode shows, it did have an impact on her.
  • Big Good: Subverted. In Chapter 19, she helps Counters get into Eden without Johan knowing, and it's a welcome thing after Inherit beats them to the Vapaus and Johan attempts to murder the Commander, who only survived because of Harran. She even goes as far as giving the Vapaus bullet to the Commander as a show of trust for the fight against Nihilister. In Chapter 20 though, it turns out that she only brought Counters along as convenient meat shields to throw at Nihilister, prioritizing Eden first.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up just in time to shoot down Nihilister and save Counters in their second match with her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Her goodwill is in reality a façade she shows to Counters as revealed in Chapter 20, all for the sake of protecting Eden and getting them to do what she wants.
    • She suggests to Johan that they should let Counters take the brunt of Nihilister's attack in Chapter 20, then swoop in to take down the weakened Nihilister, thus saving Counters in the nick of time and putting the team in Eden's debt. That, or let them die as cannon fodder softening her up as much as possible to give Inherit an easy kill. It's remarkable that Johan, the one who tried to kill the Commander, calls her out on this for hiding such a despicable personality.
    • She stops Papillion from sending messages to Burningum, taking full control of her messages in exchange for letting her stay (alive) in Eden. While it's a valid concern to keep a spy from reporting a secret place like Eden, it's clear that Dorothy isn't above eavesdropping, or making shady deals and threats to one's life.
  • Break the Cutie: Once an idealistic and heroic Nikke with dreams of saving humanity, but Operation: Ark Guardian destroyed everything she had mentally and spiritually, leaving her a jaded and bitter shell of her former self.
  • Broken Bird: Giving her life to save humanity only to be abandoned and left to rot by the very people she swore to protect left her with deeply traumatic emotional scars that she still suffers from in the present day.
  • Byronic Hero: Between Dorothy's tragic past that haunts her, her self-destructive and bitter behavior and obsession over "what could have been" regarding the Goddess Squad and her intense drive in her "crusade" against the Ark over the will of her own so-called allies, Dorothy fits the archetype to a T. She used to act even more like one outwardly, with her constant state of depression and delusion after Pinne's death, and while her mental condition isn't much better, she has learned to hide her more "byronic" behavior behind a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing acting.
    • Blows Nihilister out of the sky with one shot.
    • She easily tosses aside Anis and Neon when they try to protect the Elysion Injector from her.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Her Bond Episodes reveal that she used to fight to protect humans as a member of Goddess Team and did care about keeping them safe, only to abandon all of that in favour of thinking Humans Are Bastards after she and the others were rejected by the Ark's citizens.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Everything surrounding Operation: Ark Guardian. "Dark and troubled" is putting it lightly. Red Hood and Lilith's deaths, Pinne's death, the Ark's betrayal, the Goddess Squad splitting up, all of it progressively made Dorothy's suffering worse and worse until she became a shell of who she once was.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: It's a very slow and rocky process, given her attitude, but she goes from toying with, demeaning and hating the Commander, thinking him a "parasite" just like all other humans, at the start to getting "cold" (read: lonely) as he's about to leave for the Ark, comparing him to her old Commander in Goddess Squad and even calling him "dear" as she watches him go.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Crosses it hard near the end of part 1 of OVER ZONE, when poor Pinne is corrupted during a Rapture attack and she's forced to Mercy Kill her.
  • Driven to Suicide: After killing a corrupted Pinne, Dorothy turns the gun she used on herself. Only it being out of ammo saves her, with Snow White, Rapunzel and Scarlet finding her pulling the trigger repeatedly to no avail.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Her assault rifle being named Ungrateful OZ is pretty on the nose. Her bond episodes in particular explore her disdain of humans that was caused by the lack of gratitude from the Ark's humans she fought for during the First Invasion.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness:
    • At any time she starts acting nasty, she shows a merciless grin accompanied by a sudden lack of shine in her eyes. It's during her Bond Episodes where, after learning about her past, this comes off more as loneliness from being rejected by humanity.
    • She sports these in OVER ZONE after being forced to put down a corrupted Pinne then failing to kill herself. An even more drastic instance happens after being shut out from the Ark for good as the Goddess squad go their separate ways, despairing over the fact she just can't move on like the other members.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • She's taken aback by Johan and the rest of Inherit voting to move in and reinforce Counters immediately, rather than sit back and let them wear down Nihilister. She defaults to accusing them of sneaking into the Ark and getting NIMPH implanted in them rather than accept that they genuinely want to help the other Nikke team.
"Unbelievable. What's gotten into all of you?"
    • In her Bond Episodes, she refuses to believe that the Commander's kindness is genuine, insisting that he's just putting on an act to manipulate her and that he's a "parasite", like all the other "weak and cowardly" humans. She's thoroughly flabbergasted when the Commander casually shrugs off the reveal that she took him on a Snipe Hunt for Revenge in her Bond Episodes, demanding to know why he isn't getting angry at her.
    • She questions the Commander's kindness once again in Chapter 26, as he is willing to guide her back to the Ark after Rapi has returned. She can't understand how he doesn't want her dead after she tried to kill Rapi (by forcing Red Hood to stay), but the Commander reasons that, if she really wanted to, she would've gone through with it. Dorothy can't help but wonder where his kindness comes from.
"How can you have such a capacity for forgiveness...?"
  • Fatal Flaw: If this entire page is to go by, moreso the tropes connected to her fellow Goddess Squad members, one can take nostalgia as Dorothy's biggest flaw. Her dream is to bring back the days before Nikkes were needed, she wants to reunite the Goddess Squad in spite of being as far gone as she is in the present day, and her attempts to bring back what she feels rightfully hers, be it the glory days of Goddess or the admiration she was denied, end up making things worse instead of helping. Dorothy chases the past instead of looking towards the future — what was, instead of what could be, and it's this that ultimately puts her at odds with Red Hood for the brief period that she's awake in modern times.
  • Fallen Hero: Nearly a century ago, Dorothy was a member of the titular Goddess squad that saved humanity from the brink of extinction. The events of OVER ZONE took a huge toll on her, causing her to become bitter and vengeful towards humanity and the Ark in particular, ultimately leaving her squad behind. These days, her intentions are not nearly so benevolent.
  • Foil: She has four.
    • The Counters Commander. He's a Badass Normal human being from the modern day aligned with The Ark and fighting for the liberation of all Nikkes, with a tremendous capacity to forgive and forget, never faltering in trying to make Nikkes' lives better and more equal even as several of them inconvenience, torment, assault or outright try to kill him. Dorothy's a Super Prototype Nikke from the days of the First Invasion, aligned with Eden, who's come to despise humanity after what she went through in the past and carry that grudge all the way to the modern day, while having no qualms about using and throwing away non-Eden forces as pawns and tools to advance her agenda or protect her team.
    • Snow White. Both have white-themed colour schemes and used to be part of Goddess Squad together, but that's as far as their resemblance goes. Snow White is outwardly stoic, distant and buttoned down, but cares for her teammates and is willing to look out for the Commander and Counters once she realizes how similar she and he are, even doing them some favours and working together. Dorothy, while outwardly more pleasant initially, is far more angry, bitter and hostile on the inside, using the team as cannon fodder against Nihilister and intending for them all the die. Where Snow White was able to move past being betrayed by The Ark and still fights for humanity's sake, Dorothy never got over it and spends her time scheming to get back at them and get the respect and adoration she was originally denied.
    • Red Hood. Another former teammate from Goddess Squad, Red Hood wears a rather skimpy red and black ensemble while Dorothy wears a more conservative white dress. Red Hood is initially built up as a rather threatening or even dangerous presence by Rapi and Ingrid but turns out to be helpful, kind and friendly when met in person, while Dorothy puts on a kindly act when first meeting Counters but slowly reveals just how uncaring and cold she can be with how she treats them. Red Hood considers herself a relic of a lost age and is happy to move on while Dorothy is stuck in the past obsessing over old grudges and lost glory. In the climax of Chapter 26, after a fight breaks out over the Elysion Injector that will purge Red Hood completely, Dorothy attempts to destroy the gun to keep her former teammate around only for Red Hood herself to stop her with a gut shot and use it of her own free will.
    • Scarlet, in two ways. While Scarlet continuously seeks to improve herself and grow stronger, Dorothy, being incredibly strong already, would rather hold back her strength than go all out and get her clothes dirty in the process. Also, while Dorothy is shown to be unwilling to let go of the past and forgive The Ark as of Chapter 26, Scarlet took the lesson of her sister Rose that "nothing lasts forever" to heart and decides to face the present rather than dwell in the past.
  • Freudian Excuse: All of her current issues and her less than ideal treatment of the Counters squad can be traced back to the final mission she undertook as the leader of the Goddess squad. To summarize, she fought tooth and nail in order to give humanity enough time to seal themselves into the Ark with the expectation that she and her squad would be welcomed back as heroes. When that didn't happen and she was abandoned along with her squad, her opinion on humanity understandably soured.
  • Good Is Not Nice: She is fighting for the liberation of the surface like the heroes, but unlike the protagonists, layers of death and betrayal over the years have turned her cynical and bitter. She has a tendency to act with malice when humans outside of Eden are involved and especially when the Ark is involved, but considering where she comes from it's not entirely unjustifiable.
  • Gorgeous Garment Generation: In a manner similar to Laplace summoning her mask and cannon, Dorothy can conjure armor plating over her usual white dress, quickly turning it into a Battle Ballgown in an instantaneous flash of light. She can also remove the armor once out of combat. In the 1st Anniversary character interview video, she reveals that it is "Pinne", a specially-developed technology created by Eden.
  • Heal the Cutie: Downplayed. Her Bond Story involves her being put through impromptu (but much needed) therapy session with the Commander. She initially repels his attempts to help and insists that Humans Are Bastards, but after he sifts through her true colors for a spell he manages to light a flicker of hope in her heart that maybe not all humans are bad people. She's still far from coming to terms with her past issues but she eventually learns to trust the Commander a tiny bit.
  • Heroic BSoD: Throughout the events of OVER ZONE, it's clear that the stress of the situation against the Raptures, lack of communication from the Ark, pressure of leading the rest of her squad and general sense of hopelessness is eating away at Dorothy's mental health. She's only able to pull herself together with the help of Pinne, a Product 23 mass-produced Nikke who looks up to the Goddess Squad and believes in Dorothy's heroism. So when Pinne falls to corruption during a Rapture raid and Dorothy is forced to Mercy Kill her, anything keeping her sanity tethered instantly snaps. The only reason she doesn't kill herself on the spot is because her gun is out of bullets.
  • Her Own Worst Enemy: By the time of Chapter 26, it's made pretty clear that the greatest obstacle in the way of Dorothy's happiness is Dorothy herself. Her insistence on trying to go back to the past and keep her teammates with her winds up turning Red Hood against her once Dorothy goes against Hood's wishes to try and do so. While she does secretly want to be loved and admired by humans again, her inability to let go of her hatred of The Ark, even after Red Hood tries to get it into her head that forgiving them is a simple way to get what she wants, means she's going to waste more time on revenge plans rather than bridging the gap and becoming a beloved protector again. Her old teammates would gladly take her back, with Snow White even saying that they still think of her as their leader, but Dorothy herself pushes them away as long as her revenge plans are still running, feeling there's No Place for Me There after all she's done. Were the Counters Commander a less forgiving man, she'd have also long since alienated a human offering her precisely what she's wanted: affection, thanks and support.
  • Humans Are Bastards: A firm believer in it, insisting that humans are weak, cowardly and selfish, with any kindness they show being a front to manipulate others into doing what they want. That said, the Commander realizes that this mindset is at least partly an act, to make it easier for Dorothy to keep hating them instead of trying to get close to one like she really wants to do.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Holds The Ark and humanity in contempt for how they used her and the Goddess Squad to protect themselves, lying to them about giving them a place in The Ark and abandoning them once they'd done their jobs. In the present day, this is exactly how she acts, lying to the Commander and Counters about why she's letting them stay in Eden before having them go against Nihilister as meat shields to protect Eden and Inherit, even trying to convince Johan to let them all die first softening up Nihilister as much as possible before Inherit moves in.
    • She rips into Anis and Neon for being, in her eyes, dependant on others to get anywhere, which she insists is a mistake and obstacle to getting stronger. Anis immediately points out that she should practice what she preaches and leave Inherit, Eden and all of its shiny tech behind to go fight the Rapture war all by herself, while Neon reminds her that she was the one who asked to join Counters' expedition for Rapi in the first place because she can't find her herself.
  • I Call It "Vera": In the 1st Anniversary character interview video, Dorothy reveals that her spontaneous armour summoning system is an Eden-developed technology called "Pinne".
  • Ignored Aesop: In Chapter 26, Red Hood tells Dorothy that she can experience love again by letting go of her grudge and forgiving The Ark for their betrayal. However, after her discussion with Burningum in the same chapter, Dorothy says privately that she will never forgive The Ark.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved:
    • The Commander deduces this during her third Bond Episode, realizing that her constant deprecation of humans is really something she's forcibly convincing herself of, when in reality she wants to be loved by them in spite of her being wronged by them in the past.
    • In Chapter 26, Dorothy says this in her plea with Red Hood to stay, believing that they can reunite the Goddess Squad together and go back to their glory days. Red Hood calls her a fool for being stuck in the past, and offers her a simpler solution to be loved again: let go of her grudge and forgive The Ark. Unfortunately, Dorothy makes it clear in private that forgiving The Ark is something she won't do.
  • It's All About Me: She wants Red Hood to come back permanently so they can get the old team together and live the glory days of the past again, not really caring that Red Hood herself is Not Afraid to Die and intends on handing Rapi's body back to her as soon as possible to the point of needing to be talked into going on her last home journey by Rapi herself. To that end, she tries destroying the Elysion Injector in the climax of Chapter 26 to force Red Hood to stay, and is quite surprised when her old teammate is willing to shoot her to make her stop and get the injector back.
  • I've Come Too Far: After spending over 50 years plotting revenge against The Ark, Dorothy feels that her place in the Goddess Squad is long gone. This stands heavily against her attitude when Red Hood returns, leading her to attempt to reunite the squad and bring the 'old days' back.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Dorothy wastes no time gloating over a heavily damaged Nihilister in Chapter 25, putting some more bullets into her, forwarding her location to Johan and Inherit claiming it's "a present for them", just to leave and let them decide her fate, all while Nihilister can do nothing but growl and yell to either get lost or kill her.
  • The Leader: Two distinct phases throughout her life:
    • Liliweiss appointed Dorothy as acting leader of the Goddess Squad in her absence when she and the Legendary Commander are called in for a status report by the United Forces of Humanity. This later becomes a permanent position when Liliweiss dies, with Dorothy having to quickly come to terms of what it means to lead in OVER ZONE. She manages to become a Charismatic person with Pinne's help, rallying her team members at their lowest moments that it's not hard to see how she is a beloved figure for Eden in the future.
Rapunzel: But what of those poor souls who died in vain?
Dorothy: Who said their deaths were in vain? [...] Those who perished do not feel they died a meaningless death. That I can promise you. They proudly gave their lives and remained brave until the very end. [...] I'm right in front of you, living and breathing, talking to you. And I'm offering my hand. I'm hoping that you'll take it, and stand up. The dead... can't pull you up. They can only pull you down.
    • After the Goddess Squad is disbanded, she later becomes the founder of Eden and squad leader for the city's Nikke Team Inherit, charming a score of people who left the Ark—but as a Mastermind not above manipulating people for her own ends.
  • Light Is Not Good: She wears a pure white dress by default, has an armored dress styled after white wings which she can summon in a flash of bright light, and is even described as an angel with white wings when first met by the Commander. Unfortunately, Chapter 20 reveals the malice hidden underneath that glamour.
  • Motive Rant: Delivers one to Red Hood when the latter questions why she's trying so hard to go back to the past.
Dorothy: Because I want to be loved! I'm tired of all this death and destruction! I want to know what love is!
  • Old Soldier: Like Pioneer, she was a former member of Goddess Squad and fought during the First Invasion.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: At the end of their journey to Red Hood's hometown, Dorothy breaks down, pleading with Red Hood to stay and bring back the Goddess Squad. Red Hood, however, already made peace with herself, and does not want to stay any longer than neccessary, especially since her staying would ultimately lead to Rapi's death.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Dorothy invokes this by charitably describing her insistence on keeping Red Hood alive in the present at the cost of Rapi's life as this, concealing her true motivation by appealing to Red Hood being much more powerful than Rapi.
Dorothy: I'm simply being pragmatic. Red Hood is a formidable fighter and has extensive experience on the battlefield. Frankly speaking, she's leagues above Rapi. Her specifications surpass all others by leaps and bounds.note  And her armor was fashioned by Snow... the finest craftsman there is. If we want to reclaim the surface from the Raptures, it would be smarter to keep Red Hood instead of Rapi.
Dorothy: Do I sound crazy to you? I'm merely pointing out the obvious. If there's a choice between two individuals, you choose the one who's superior. Does that not apply to everything? This is really basic, right?
  • Protagonist Journey to Villain: She is the protagonist of the OVER ZONE event which showcases how and why she came to hate humanity so much, becoming no better than the Raptures and Heretics she fights against. Her Bond episodes with the Commander demonstrate she may not be entirely beyond redemption, however.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Developed a very close relationship with Pinne in the lead up to sealing the Ark. Pinne even lampshades it towards the end of the OVER ZONE story, commenting on how possessive Dorothy is of her. This is just Dorothy's mental projection of Pinne saying it since the real Pinne had died several weeks prior.
  • Psychological Projection: Her Bond Episodes have Dorothy accusing the Commander of being a Manipulative Bastard feigning kindness to try and get her to do things for him, an accusation that would work much better if he were throwing it at her given her Bitch in Sheep's Clothing and Manipulative Bitch actions Chapters 19 and 20.
  • Putting the Band Back Together: Upon learning that Red Hood is still alive (via possession of Rapi's body), she wants her to help bring back Snow White, Rapunzel and Scarlet to reform the Goddess Squad and return to their glory days. Red Hood refuses, despite wishing to see her old squad mates again, and tells Dorothy to stop fixating on a past that cannot be replicated.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After travelling with the Commander and Counters in search of Rapi during Chapter 25, Dorothy is impressed the squad has made it this far, however, she also believes, based on her personal observation, that their success is either a fluke or the result of luck above all else. While she compliments the Commander on his improvements since she last saw him and his ability to lead Counters without Rapi's help, she criticises Anis and Neon for their sloppy movements in combat, claiming them to be overly relying on Rapi to cover their shortcomings and calling them a burden to both the Commander and Rapi. The fact they cannot bring up any arguments on how they cover Rapi's weaknesses in combat situations doesn't help their case.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: The Red Ash event reveals that she was the daughter of a influential politician before signing up for the conversion.
  • Sanity Slippage: Unable to mentally cope with the trauma of killing her best friend, Dorothy unconsciously blocks the memory of Pinne's death and begins to hallucinate Pinne's presence, talking to her and referring to "us" as if she were still there. The rest of the Goddess Squad becomes concerned about her mental state when they find out but allow it to persist as long as it's keeping her stable.
  • Secretly Selfish: Downplayed. At one point when talking with Pinne during OVER ZONE, she elaborates on what motivates her and reveals that along with her admiration of Lilith, who was the previous leader of the Goddess squad, she wanted the admiration and thanks of humanity for protecting them. This also plays into her misanthropy after finding out the Ark had abandoned them, planning revenge on them afterwards, and only stopping after Snow White talks her out of it.
  • Secret Test of Character: She puts the Commander through one in her Bond Episodes. She takes him on a 'stroll' through sweltering desert heat, ostensibly to find a flower she wants, and doesn't let him rest for very long even when he gets completely exhausted. Once they find the flowers in question blocked off by rubble, Dorothy sits back and lets the Commander do all the work to get to and pick one of them...before switching on Smug Smiler mode and revealing that those aren't even the flowers she was looking for. She's doing it to try and get the Commander to snap at and stop being kind to her, proving himself just as manipulative, selfish and insincere as the rest of humanity in her eyes. The Commander failing the test by simply shrugging it off instead leaves her flabbergasted and angry, storming off in a rage.
  • Shadow Archetype: Nihilister. Both of them have a bone to pick with humanity, Dorothy for them abandoning her and her team after they'd served loyally, Nihilister for unexplained reasons, but they each go about satisfying that grudge in very different ways. Dorothy is content to sit back and scheme ways to get the glory, respect and adulation she and Goddess Squad never got in the past (though she's more than happy to manipulate and throw Ark-aligned Nikke teams and their commanders under the bus to benefit herself and Eden should they wander her way), while Nihilister is actively waging war against humanity and Nikkes as a Rapture-aligned Heretic, taking great pleasure in toying with, brutalising and crushing her opponents, all of which Dorothy could do herself as a Super Prototype Old Soldier with tech and experience beyond almost all of her peers. Nihilister is essentially what Dorothy could be if she stopped caring about getting respect, love and admiration from humanity and decided to just start violently lashing out at them.
  • She Who Fights Monsters: After being abandoned by the Ark in combination with her Secretly Selfish nature and the deaths of her friends, Pinne in particular, Dorothy becomes an embittered Manipulative Bitch willing to kill anybody who gets in her way. It's especially telling that her first interactions with Counters have her doing to them what The Ark once did to her: lie to them to get them to go on a mission for her, then abandoning them...except she takes it a step further and actively tries to get them all killed by having her team hang back till Nihilister's done with them.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: When Red Hood tries reasoning with her about how, even if she were to revive all the members, she can't bring back the Goddess Squad without truly wanting to protect humanity again, Dorothy spits back about how worthless those words are.
Dorothy: Don't give me all that crap about duty and pride. What has any of that ever done for me?
  • Slasher Smile: Whenever she turns nasty, she sports a rather unsettling grin.
  • Snipe Hunt: Takes the Commander on one in her Bond Episodes as Revenge for him repeatedly trying to interact with her in Eden.
  • Start of Darkness: Operation: Ark Guardian, as detailed during the events of OVER ZONE. Through an intense session of Break the Cutie, Dorothy loses everything and everyone she ever cared for, and after the Ark betrays the Goddess Squad and she comes to terms with Pinne's death, all of her emptiness is subsumed by pure rage and anger.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: To say that she hated Scarlet during the early years of the 1st Invasion is an understatement, considering the two were constantly at each others throats for their clashing personalities and combat styles and constantly needed Liliweiss or other Goddess Squad members to intervene. The two eventually manage to learn to get along over the years, though, and by OVER ZONE they're pretty chum.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Although Isabel is obsessive to the point of attempting murder, even she pales in comparison to the extent of Dorothy's ruthlessness. As the most blatantly untrustworthy character in Eden, Dorothy is willing to manipulate, lie, and blackmail her way to her desired outcome, no matter who has to die or get sacrificed in the process. Even Snow White tells you to stay away from her in particular during an Advise event.
  • Tragic Dream:
    • During one Brief Encounter cutscene in the Red Ash event, Dorothy reveals her reason for becoming a Nikke: she wants for things to return to how they were before the Raptures appeared. The 1st Commander tells her right away that she cannot go back to the past, no matter what the outcome of their battle with the Raptures will be.
    • In the present day, there's her short-lived dream to get the old gang back together after Red Hood comes back, since Red Hood is in no way interested in staying any longer than she has to because of what that will mean for Rapi. Dorothy's attempts to try and convince her to stick around and keep Rapi's body for herself only sour her former teammate's opinion of her further and further the more she tries, to the point of escalating into a physical confrontation and Red Hood giving her a "Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Tragic Keepsake: She wears Pinne's necklace as a decoration on her armor's headdress so that she will never forget her fallen friend.
  • Went Crazy When They Left: Pinne's death dealt a devastating blow to Dorothy's sanity to the point where the first thing she does immediately after shooting Pinne is attempt suicide. Not long after, she starts seeing hallucinations of her and conversing with her as though she were still alive.
  • Willfully Weak: Dorothy does not give it her all when fighting for fear of dirtying her clothes, a fact that aggravated Scarlet to no end during their regular bickering sessions when they were in the Goddess Squad together. Word of God claims that she would be the second most powerful member of the Goddess Squad if she actually tried.
  • You Are in Command Now: OVER ZONE reveals that she took over leading Goddess Squad after Lilith died.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Dorothy's reaction when Red Hood shoots her after the former tried to destroy the injection gun that would turn Red Hood back into Rapi.
  • You're Insane!: She declares that Johan and Inherit have all gone insane after the Nikkes all voice their approval of Johan's plan to move in early and reinforce Counters, rather than leaving them to be Cannon Fodder.
  • You Remind Me of X: Like fellow Old Soldier and ex-Goddess Squad member Rapunzel, she too eventually begins to draw comparisons between the Commander and Goddess Squad's Commander during her final Bond Episode.

Banquet Witch

Element: Electric
Weapon: Death Sentence (Sniper Rifle)
Class: Attacker
Voiced by: Song Ha-rim (KR), Sayaka Ohara (JP), Natalie Van Sistine (EN)

A prideful and arrogant Nikke who views herself as the strongest and enjoys praise.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Almost immediately after helping Johan subdue Counters, she comes to the Commander's aid and saves him from falling to his death. She explains it away as having a relatively high level of autonomy for a Nikke with a commander, essentially being allowed to do as she pleases.
  • The Grim Reaper: She at least evokes the imagery of one, having subtle death motifs, talking in magic terms and wielding a scythe. In addition to her main weapon, she utilizes a mysterious powder for combat, which not only has incredible destructive capability but also has the ability to outright reanimate mechanical beings, such as Raptures.
  • Hidden Depths: During the start of her Bond story, it seems that she's being her usual prideful self, making the Commander do laborious tasks for her in exchange for her help. As it progresses however, it becomes increasingly obvious that she genuinely enjoys the Commander's presence. This culminates in her reluctantly letting the Commander go, implying that for all her bluster, she wanted someone to be with to view her achievements.
  • It's All About Me: Harran is extremely self-centered. One way the commander gets into her good graces is complimenting her.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Her weapon is a sniper rifle that unfolds into a deadly scythe.

  • Axe-Crazy: Well, wanting to kill off all of Team Counters just because the Commander happens to care about them as well doesn't exactly paint the best picture of her mental state now, does it?
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: OH YES. The first three episodes of her Bond Story have her essentially taking advantage of the Commander being injured in a firefight to abduct him, nurse him back to health and then keep him with her to live out her fantasies of being a married couple, while forbidding him for ever going outside. And in episode four, when Counters wander by looking for him? She flat out attacks them to make sure they can't take the Commander from her.
  • Gathering Steam: Isabel has a shotgun and can hit monstrously hard, but her entire kit revolves around her Marked Target skill, which stacks each time her Burst Skill activates in the same fight, up to a maximum of 3. Her Burst Skill is a Burst III with a 40 second cooldown and its effectiveness also scales with Marked Target, meaning that she is only effective in prolonged boss battles where she actually has enough time to stack Marked Target beyond 1.
  • Gilded Cage: Puts the Commander in one of these in her Bond Episodes. She's very happy to essentially do everything necessary while nursing him back to health (cooking, cleaning, etc.) with the one small favour she asks in return being that the Commander never goes outside ever.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Admits to being so jealous of Counters having fun, celebrating holidays and going on missions with the Commander that she flat-out thought about killing them.
  • It's All About Me: Her Bond Episodes reveal just how controlling and selfish Isabel's affection actually is. She wants the Commander to be with her and play out the role of a married couple with her, regardless of what he himself might want, and she's willing to flat-out attack and kill his own Nikke team just to get any rivals for the Commander's affection out of the way. Even when the Commander himself asks her point blank to please calm down and stop attacking his team, she flat-out ties him up and drags him back to her home.
  • Karma Houdini: While the Commander does escape from her, Isabel ultimately faces no consequences for her actions in her bond story, by the end it's shown she's still stalking him and Brief Encounters will show her harassing women she thinks are dating the Commander and planning to abduct him again.
  • Love at First Sight: Her first Bond Episode has her explain that this happened with her, falling for the Commander basically the moment she met him.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: As her Bond Episodes show, Isabel's answer to just about any romantic rival, perceived or otherwise, is killing them.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Attempted in her fourth Bond Episode, where the Commander happens upon her trying to kill Counters, who've come looking for him, out of anger that they're trying to take the Commander away from her.
  • Never My Fault: During her Bond Episodes, she consistently and completely fails to understand, or simply refuses to accept, that it's her nutty and possessive behaviour that are unnerving the Commander enough to try and get away from her or go against her, insisting that it has to be the fault of those 'hussies' from Counters trying to 'steal' him away from Isabel.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Of the Pilgrims. While all of them have their quirks, like Harran's extreme ego and Rapunzel's uncontrollable urges, Isabel's psychotic obsession with the Commander and willingness to Murder the Hypotenuse makes her far more dangerous to him and other Nikkes than any of her fellow Pilgrims.
  • Yandere: Almost all of her lines are about how obsessively devoted she is to the commander, while her Bond Episodes reveal how extremely possessive she can be.

Element: Wind
Weapon: Metal Cocoon (Rocket Launcher)
Class: Defender

  • Draw Aggro: Her Burst Skill applies Taunt to all enemies, forcing them to focus on Noah for the duration. Luckily, it also renders her invulnerable.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Despite her being a Smug Super who loves taunting those she views as weak, during a Brief Encounter involving her being asked to care for an injured Commander while they recover in hospital, she quickly drops the attitude the moment she realises they really do need help.
    • For as much shit as she gives Counters over the course of hunting for Nihilister, Noah's rather disturbed to discover what Dorothy intends for Counters' actual role to be. When Johan puts Inherit's next move to a vote, Noah supports reinforcing Counters rather than hanging back and letting Nihilister kill them.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: All of her Bond Episodes have the word "Strongest" in the title.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Her signature equipment is a pair of large shields attached to her back, and in the opening movie she can be seen using them to deflect a Rapture's laser beam and cause it to disperse brilliantly across the night sky. This gives the justification for her Burst Skill: not only does she Taunt all enemies on the field, she also becomes completely invulnerable for several seconds, freeing the rest of her team to rain punishment while the enemies are focused on her.
  • Troll: She's constantly pranking everyone and thinking of ways to piss them off, and her in-game skills are focused around taunting enemies. Her burst skill taunt is named "U Mad Bro?"

The Heretics

"The betrayers of mankind, who are all elites of the Queen. Yet, they were once Nikkes."

    The Heretics in General
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: The Evil to Pioneer's Good and Inherit's Bad. Every Heretic has, for one reason or another, forsaken humanity and sided with the Raptures that have nearly exterminated mankind.
  • Theme Naming: All the Heretics' names are derived from certain philosophies.
    • Modernia comes from "modernism".
    • Nihilister comes from "nihilism".
    • Liberalio comes from "liberalism".
    • Indivilia comes from "individualism".
    • Anachiro possibly comes from "anachronism" or "anarchy".

    Modernia (Spoiler Warning!
A former Heretic and close ally of Counters who was transferred to the guardianship of the Pilgrims to protect her and her closest friends (although the game still lists her squad as "The Heretics" after you recruit her even though she's with the Pioneers by that point). For tropes regarding Modernia's playable appearance, see the "Marian" folder on the main page.

    Nihilister

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_3503_2.jpeg

  • Foil: To Crow - both are sinister red and black Nikkes with a penchant for violence and cynical views on mankind. Both are also antagonistic toward the Commander, but still show signs of niceness beneath their rough exteriors. Gaemplay-wise, though, Crow is a Close-Range Combatant due to wielding submachine guns while Nihilister is a Long-Range Fighter whose dragon-headed weapons are classified as sniper rifles. Crow is a defender focused on mitigating enemy damage while Nihilister is focused on obliterating opponents outright. Crow wants revenge against the Ark for their treatment of the Outer Rim while Nihilister just thinks Humans Are Insects and wants them wiped out. Most telling, though, is how they interact with the Commander - while Nihilister is extremely abrasive toward the Commander at first, her advise and bond lines indicate that his kindness is getting to her and starting to soften her views, while Crow's lines make it clear that even if the Commander is getting to her, she's not leaving the path she's set herself on. As a result, while the Commander invests significant time and effort into bonding with Nihilister, they eventually stop trying to bond with Crow and come very close to killing her after much goading on her part.
  • Jaw Drop: Should the Commander imply in an Advise session that his team is held together by his looks, she'll stare in open mouthed shock at the audacity of the statement.
  • Not So Above It All: During one of her advise sessions, she'll ask how the Commander gets all of his Nikkes to follow him. If you respond by saying it's down to looks, she'll do a Jaw Drop before admitting that the Commander is easy on the eyes.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Her color scheme is primarily black with red hair and red weapon highlights, and she is one of the most malevolent Nikkes in the playable roster.
  • Sensible Heroes, Skimpy Villains: Zigzagged - Nihilister is one of the two outright villainous characters in your Nikke roster, but even some of the nicer Nikkes have skimpy outfits. Nihilister is in the running for skimpiest, though, as her attire amounts to a bra, panties, and leg armor that stops short of her hips.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Nihilister is not remorseful for what she has done as a Heretic, but nonetheless becomes playable once you have progressed far enough in the story and cleared her by Investigation.

White Knight

"Also known as the White Knights. They are Pilgrims who named an old castle on the surface "Crown Kingdom" and made it as their stronghold. They're passionate about increasing the kingdom's population."

    Crown

Element: Iron
Weapon: Your Majesty (Machine Gun)
Class: Defender

A Pilgrim, and member of the White Knights. Self-proclaimed "King" of her own kingdom, she, alongside Chime, travels the surface in search of valuable treasures.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's a somewhat ditzy Nikke who has declared herself King of an old tourist attraction, and declares pretty much anyone that wanders across it to be a citizen of her "kingdom", but she has survived on the surface for quite some time, and curbstomps a Heretic without any back-up, who usually require multiple elite squads working together just to defeat, to the point that even Goddess Squad had trouble defeating one.
  • Big Fancy Castle: The Second Affection Side Story reveals the White Knights live in one which serves as their base. It also serves as the overworld map of the Last Kingdom event, which reveals it was built as a tourist attraction before the Raptures came, and sits on top of a seed vault containing seeds for a miracle crop, one that can easily feed all of mankind once the surface is reclaimed.
  • Declaration of Protection: During the Second Affection Side Story, Crown makes it clear that any citizen of her kingdom is under her personal protection, and she will do everything in her power to fulfill her subjects' wishes.
Marian: Then what is the wish of the Queen?
Crown: To protect her subjects. That is all. My personal desires are of no importance. A Queen exists because of and for her subjects.
  • Delusions of Eloquence: She carries herself as the ruler of a kingdom and her subjects, but said "kingdom" is a former tourist attraction that just looks like a fortress and her only "subjects" are Chime, Marian, the various animals that are hanging around, and then Kilo after she's accidentally whisked away by her and Chime during Last Kingdom. She also has a tendency to use big, fancy words while trying to sell her image and mixes up the meanings in the process. Her quirks aside though, she's still capable of solid words of wisdom as Marian and Kilo can attest to, leading and guiding them as a ruler would.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: First mentioned by Snow White in Chapter 17, her first appearance is in the First Affection mini-event, before being properly introduced in Chapter 25.
  • The Good King: If you can come around to calling her "kingdom" that, Crown is nevertheless a fair and kindhearted leader to her "subjects".
  • Greed: While Snow White describes both her and Chime as money-hungry, she knows they would never besmirch their good name, and trusts them with taking care of Marian.
  • I'll Pretend I Didn't Hear That: Crown has a tendency to ignore, or conveniently mishear things. When Neon (once again) blurts out that she's a spy, she thinks she's talking about pies.
Chime: Your Highness, this woman is claiming to be a spy!
Crown: Did you say pie? I could go for a good pie right about now.
  • In-Series Nickname: Chime always addresses Crown as "Her Highness".
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: She postures as a regal, dignified ruler, but ask her about anything that should be common knowledge and she grows quite flustered because she doesn't actually understand half of what people say to her. For example, the 1.5 anniversary gift you get in the mail has her read it as "15 years", showing she not only doesn't know what decimal points are but can't even keep track of time correctly.
  • Malaproper: She prone to jumbling up words and their meanings. It'll typically result in Chime or another character correcting her, followed by her trying to play it off as intentional out of embarrassment.
Chime: (Finding the immobile T.A.L.O.S. with a sleeping Kilo in it) It's most likely meant for decoration.
Crown: Decadent? I don't think it's quite fancy.
Chime: Not decadent, your Highness. It's a decoration.
Crown: Ah, indeed. Well done, Chime. I was testing you.
  • Old Soldier: She has been on the surface for a long time, following her orders to defend the seed vault under her castle.
  • She Is the King: When Kilo brings this up, Crown notes that she leads a Kingdom, and must thus be a King.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: She's quite emotionally intelligent, as seen in her therapy with Marian, but her lack of general knowledge is both startling and amusing.
  • Sole Survivor: Last Kingdom reveals the she was part of a squad tasked to defend the seed vault beneath the castle, but all the other members died long before she met Chime.
  • Talk to the Spear: Indivilia gets a taste of Crown's Tranquil Fury before she can finish her Evil Gloating.
Indivilia: Hello there, I'm the one who took your friend's li...
(cue Crown slamming her spear into Indivilia at full speed)
  • Tranquil Fury: Her reaction upon seeing Chime's decapitated head is to ride into battle to contront Indivilia, destroying any Rapture in her way. The moment she arrives, she skewers Indivilia with her spear without so much as acknowledging her greetings, beats her to the point she's certain she won't be able to follow her, takes Chime's body, and returns to her castle, all while remaining as calm as ever.
