The Caillou/Anderson family

    In general
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/24350050l.jpg

  • Adaptational Villainy: Possibly the first baby show family on GoAnimate to become this. If you came in expecting them to be the wholesome characters that they are canonically, then you've come to the wrong place.
  • Amusing Injuries: A lot of their physical injuries tend to be played for comedy.
  • Breakout Character: They quickly became one of the most popular characters in grounded videos. At first, it was simply as a way to vent frustrations against the show, but now it seems that you really can't have grounded videos without them, whether they're the focus of the video in question or not!
  • Butt-Monkey: Doris has a bossy husband, Boris is often injured, Caillou is often punished extremely (usually being Grounded Forever) and Rosie has Caillou for a Big Brother Bully.
  • Characterization Marches On: Back when African Vulture made videos about Caillou getting grounded, his family were jerkasses as usual, but since "A Caillou Christmas Carol", they became nicer than usual, leading them to from the Jerkass level, to the Nice Guy/Girl level, but sometimes Caillou will get grounded even after "A Caillou Christmas Carol".
  • The Chew Toy: Them being injured or punished is usually Played for Laughs.
  • Depending on the Writer:
    • How dysfunctional the family actually is and how much they like or dislike each other. They can have their tiffs and groundings but still care for each other in some way, all of them be terrible to each other, or have Boris, Doris, and Rosie all against Caillou.
    • Some videos will have the family's last name as Caillou, while others use Anderson as their last name.
  • Dysfunctional Family: They make the Griffins look like the Tanners, with all of them being nasty to one another, ranging from simply mean to abusive.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Caillou's the foolish (a Bratty Half-Pint and sometimes a prankster) to Rosie's responsible (she's usually the one telling him not to do the wrong things). Users have been known to reverse this, however.
  • Jerkass: Nearly all of them to some degree are unpleasant— Boris is usually abusive, Doris is either abusive too or just mean, and Caillou and Rosie are usually both brats.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite usually being jerks, they are far from incapable of empathy. For instance, in "Caillou Smokes Cigarettes", Boris expresses concern for Caillou smoking, and in another video, Caillou takes his family to Chuck E. Cheese's.
  • Token Good Teammate: Rosie is usually the voice of reason and only character not to do anything wrong. Though even that can be subverted sometimes.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: A lot of times the family just seems like they completely hate each other's guts, but some videos show that deep down inside (waaaay deep inside for some of them) they do actually care about each other. African Vulture's interpretation of the family, in particular, is a shining example of this.

Caillou in the Business Friendly style

One of the most popular and recurring characters in the grounded videos, Caillou tends to be characterized as a Enfant Terrible with a huge temper who will stop at nothing to get his way. At least, outside of the times where he's portrayed as more sympathetic. Usually voiced by David, Joey, Ivy, or rarely (if ever), Justin.

  • Adaptational Villainy: He's the main villain of his Grounded series, unlike his original show.
  • Age Lift: While most videos portray him as four years old like in canon, in others, he is anywhere between eight and seventeen.
  • The Alcoholic: Many videos show Caillou going to the bar and killing the bartender when the latter won't give him any beer.
  • Ax-Crazy: Not nearly as much as his dad, but Caillou has been known for trying to violently attack people who wrong him.
  • Bald of Evil: When Caillou is genuinely villainous (he's always bald).
  • Berserk Button:
    • Deny him a trip to Chuck E Cheese's and he'll flip out.
    • If Chuck E Cheese's is closed, he will destroy it.
    • Don't try to teach him about friendship.
  • Big Bad: Is usually this in the videos featuring him, as a troublemaker who makes life a headache for his friends and family.
  • Big Brother Bully: Towards Rosie quite a lot. Caillou frequently breaks Rosie's belongings, pulls pranks on her, or even kills her.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: He is a young boy and is constantly having fits.
  • Breakout Character: Quite likely the most well known GoAnimate character.
  • Butt-Monkey: Thanks to his past misdeeds (and the fact that he's a baby show character), most characters are shown to not enjoy Caillou's company.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': He always gets grounded for everything.
  • Character Exaggeration: In his home series, Caillou is a generally well-meaning kid who has occasional bouts of brattiness when he doesn't get his way or doesn't understand something. In the grounded videos, Caillou throws tantrums at the drop of a hat and is sometimes excessively violent.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the earlier videos, Caillou was a very self-absorbed brat who would often brag if he won, and get grounded for that, but then they exaggerated all the corruptness and things that have him getting punished over a small thing and he became the official villain.
  • The Chew Toy: Especially during Punishment Days, and even discounting that, Caillou sometimes shows up in GoAnimate videos unrelated to him having some sort of calamity befall him.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Ivy is the most popular voice-setting to give him.
  • Depending on the Writer:
    • Caillou's sympathetic qualities tend to go up or down depending on the user. He can be everything from an irredeemable Enfant Terrible to a Jerkass Woobie to something resembling his canon characterization.
    • There are videos where he is in love with Dora and some where they are enemies. (1RedBed's videos serves as an example of the latter.)
    • In some videos, he is four like in the source material, but other times he is aged up to eight to be Dora's classmate, and in others, he is a middle school kid or a teen.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Often in Deconstruction videos or videos where Boris is the target.
  • Enfant Terrible: He's 4 years old (in the videos where he doesn't have an Age Lift) and sometimes attacks or even kills other people.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He and Dora tend to be good friends with each other. He also loves his cat, Gilbert.
  • Evil Laugh: "Har-har-har-har-har-ha-ha."
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish to Rosie's responsible (he's a troublemaker while she's the voice of reason). Though sometimes it can be the other way around.
  • Freudian Excuse: His home life isn't exactly the best.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Not as bad as his father but he will throw his trademark temper tantrums for minor things.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Nowhere as mean as Boris but still bratty and pulls pranks on others to make fun of them, but again is the hero who is just naughty.
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: Caillou tends to bring the punishments he gets at the hand of his parents and peers upon himself.
  • Hulking Out: In this video, Caillou attempts to become a teeth kid in order to get revenge on everyone.
  • In-Series Nickname: Kaylew, Kaylou, K-Low and even Kay-Eye-You / K-I-U, due to text to speech limitations.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: During his better moments, he's this.
  • Jerkass: Short-tempered, violent, politically incorrect, you name it.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Author Avatar acknowledged example. He's mean, but the punishments he gets are too extreme.
  • Kids Are Cruel: Let's see, he pulls deadly pranks, has no problems physically harming women and is racist, why of course he counts.
  • Pet the Dog: For all his nasty behavior, he's not without moments of kindness.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: He's not very tall, but he's able to demolish Chuck E. Cheese's with his own hands and is able to beat up people who make him mad.
  • Puppy Love: Sometimes shown as in love with Dora.
  • Repetitive Name: Some videos have his full name being "Caillou Caillou".
  • Resurrective Immortality: In Samster5677's videos. Sometimes to his advantage, sometimes not.
  • Send in the Clones: In some videos, Caillou will have additional brothers like Daillou and Baillou. Sometimes exaggerated by adding even more "-aillous", reaching to one for each letter of the alphabet, though it isn't uncommon for the letter A to remain excluded.note
  • Series Mascot: Seems to be the unofficial mascot of Grounded videos.
  • Ship Tease: Sometimes hinted to have a crush on Dora.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Rosie. Caillou is insane, mean, and vicious, but Rosie is sane, kind, and somewhat of a pushover. Again, these traits of the characters can sometimes be reversed.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He can understand Gilbert's meows.
  • Spoiled Brat: Far more bratty in the grounded videos than in his home series, though he does get punished, so he isn't completely spoiled.
  • Stupid Evil: He likes to cause chaos, even for no reason.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Caillou exits many of his videos having been killed (whether because of a backfired scheme or a Punishment Day), only to return unharmed in later videos.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Often gets this in deconstruction videos or videos in which Boris or Ms. Martin is the target. He also gets this in videos where he gets ungrounded.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In a lot of the deconstruction videos or videos in which Boris gets grounded, he comes off as a bit of a nicer guy. He can also come off this way in Ungrounded videos or in videos where Rosie is the target instead.
  • Trademark Favorite Food:
    • Caillou will move heaven and earth to spend a day at Chuck E. Cheese's.
    • He is shown to be fond of beer in several videos.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: He likes beer and enjoys assaulting people for fun.
  • Unexplained Recovery: There are a number of videos that end with him severely injured or downright killed only to come back completely fine in the next video.
  • The Unfavorite: His parents clearly favor the relatively more well-behaved Rosie over him.
  • Villain Protagonist: He's the main character of his videos and also the villain.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Whenever he is given the "David" voice, he sounds much older than he actually is.
  • The Woobie: Can be seen as this by ironic fans. Most of the time, his unnecessary groundings and torturous punishment days that are handed out on him are seen as unfair and downright cruel by some viewers.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Just ask Rosie, or Clementine and Sarah, or Miss Martin, who he attacks in certain videos.

    Boris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boris_goanimate.png

Caillou's father, nicknamed Boris, is the most frequent character to punish Caillou and is portrayed as a strict parent who is all too happy to give Caillou a Punishment Day when Caillou goes too far. However, he has been known to go to ludicrous extremes in teaching Caillou a lesson. Usually voiced by Eric, James or Paul.

  • Abusive Parents: One of the biggest examples in the grounded videos, Boris is usually portrayed as a violent Jerkass who hands out increasingly violent and humiliating Punishment Days to Caillou whenever Caillou acts up. Sometimes, it gets to the point that everyone from his wife, his friends, and even Caillou calls him out about it.
  • Adaptational Villainy: A good parent in the original show to an abusive parent in Grounded videos.
  • Angrish: Boris's signature "OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH!!!" which he says when angry.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Boris is Caillou's father and worst enemy.
  • Ax-Crazy: Boris is often portrayed as borderline psychopathic and willing to attack or ground anyone, not just Caillou.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Caillou's whole existence is this for him.
    • Do not ever ground Caillou for him. That's his job.
  • Big Bad: Of certain deconstruction videos, and of a few users's grounded videos, in which he plays the abusive father to Caillou and/or Rosie who makes their lives hell.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Whenever he says, "Shut up!" with his Eric voice, it comes out as a loud, harsh hiss.
  • The Bully: Usually acts obnoxious and rude towards his son.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Being one of the most violent out of the parent characters, Boris gets this trope the most often, especially in Deconstruction videos.
  • Depending on the Writer: While Boris is usually portrayed as an amoral Ax-Crazy Jerkass, there are some users who portray Boris as either a man who means well but has trouble watching his temper or even as someone who can actually realize when he's doing something wrong.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Very fond of giving extreme punishments for minor things.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He loves his daughter Rosie, even favoring her above Caillou. But he's just as willing to physically harm her as he does Caillou if she messes up. (Notice the word "if".)
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • There are certain methods of punishment that even he would not do to Caillou.
    • Boris draws the line at disrespecting people's funerals...Unless it's Caillou's funeral of course.
    • He believes that calling newborn babies stupid is low even for him.
  • Green and Mean: Has a green shirt, and is a murderous lunatic.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He will beat up people at the drop of a hat. Exaggerated in the Caillou and Boris movie where he murders the Big Bad's wife in cold blood because she accidentally bumped into him.
  • Hate Sink: In the deconstruction videos, or videos where he is the target.
  • Hero Antagonist: He's supposedly the true "hero" of Caillou Gets Grounded Videos, but he really does go too far in his torture.
  • Hulking Out: Boris the Teeth Guy when he's portrayed as a transformation of Boris.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Some videos hit at Boris having a nicer side, whether through someone else torturing Caillou beyond the point that he would go to or Caillou having some genuine calamity befall him.
  • Karma Houdini: Boris is rarely called out for his overly violent nature or even criminal activity towards Caillou.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: In videos in which he is the target.
  • Moral Myopia: A classic example of a parent character being this.
  • Not So Above It All: Boris is often grounded just as harshly as his son when he goes too far or does something every bit as stupid as his son.
  • Offing the Offspring: He has killed Caillou in several "Punishment Day" videos.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He can understand cats.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Will often suffer one in Deconstruction videos.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Boris is okay with killing Rosie or inflicting Punishment Days on her if she really acts up.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He gives Caillou painful Punishment Days, and even kills him often. He does this to Rosie occasionally too.

    Doris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doris_b.jpg

Caillou's mother, nicknamed Doris, frequently grounds Caillou (but rarely gives out Punishment Days) and is often the parent who's present at his tantrums and misdeeds. She's almost always voiced by Julie.

  • Abusive Parents: She's not usually as violent as Boris, but she still grounds Caillou for excessively long periods of time and only occasionally gives Caillou punishments when sufficiently ticked off.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Even with her standard characterization tending to be less violent and mean than Boris, she is still far and way more rude and harsh than her TV counterpart.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Don't steal her bow.
    • Don't call her a "Door Head".
    • Don't cheat on her.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: In a lot of deconstruction videos.
  • Depending on the Writer: Just how patient or violent towards Caillou she is or how nice (or evil) she is tends to vary.
  • The Dragon: Sometimes serves as the sidekick to Boris.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She's not fond of being called a doorhead.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Some deconstruction videos involving the Caillou Gets Grounded videos have Doris finally having enough and siding with Caillou when either Boris finally goes off the deep end or Caillou finally calls his parents out on their actions.
  • Ice Queen: Somewhat aloof towards her son and doesn't have so much personality beyond being somebody who agrees with Boris on everything.
  • It Runs in the Family: She and Rosie are both (Mostly in Deconstruction videos) shown to be calmer then their husband and brother, respectively.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Most users depict her as much nicer than Boris, but she still rarely cares about Caillou's well being.
  • Mama Bear: Is often portrayed as a protective mother in deconstruction videos and videos where either Boris or Ms. Martin is the target.
  • No Sympathy: She's pretty apathetic. Some deconstruction videos or videos in which Boris is the target tend to subvert it.
  • Only Sane Man: On the rare occasion Rosie isn't having this role, she the one character to be logical.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Depending on the Writer, she is sometimes portrayed as more easy to reason with than Boris.
  • Satellite Character: Doesn't have much character beyond being somebody who agrees with most of the things Boris does.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: A common plot in 'Life With/Without [Character]' videos is that Doris leaves after Boris is too harsh on the kids. Of course, things get even worse as soon as she's gone.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Deconstruction videos will often give her a less frosty side.
  • Taking the Kids: Often happens in Deconstruction videos or videos where Boris is the target.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Tends to come off as nicer (though on varying amounts) in the deconstruction videos, and even some unironic videos, where normally she's the more reasonable parent who's willing to at least listen before casting a judgement on her children.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Some videos show her to be fond of McDonald's.
  • Useless Bystander Parent: Will sometimes be portrayed as one in deconstruction videos wherein Boris' abuse gets a point where she grows a spine and stands up to him for Caillou.
  • Women Are Wiser: Doris tends to have a lot more common sense than Boris, is sometimes shown to be a bit more patient with Caillou, and sometimes even has the guts to call out Boris when he goes too far in punishing Caillou.

    Rosie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosie.PNG

Caillou's younger sister. Rosie tends to be more well behaved than... pretty much everyone else in her family, but is often the most frequent target of Caillou's schemes. Tends to be voiced by Salli, Ivy or ShyGirl.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: A notable aversion. She's relatively close to her canon counterpart. Most of the time, anyway.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Rosie sometimes is characterized this way towards Caillou. Sometimes she's even the one who regularly torments her sibling instead of the other way around.
  • Big Bad: In some videos, she will be the troublemaker, sometimes even trying to get Caillou punished in her place.
  • Break the Cutie: Frequently. She's a toddler, but is often given a hard time by her brother.
  • Butt-Monkey: Caillou's favorite target for abuse. However, in the Rosie gets grounded videos, her Butt-Monkey status grows stronger and she starts turning into one since some users make her either a troublemaker or make her just as abusive to the point where multiple people don't enjoy her company.
  • Depending on the Writer:
    • Most commonly, Rosie is portrayed as the Token Good Teammate/Only Sane Man of the Caillou family, but some users (notably the user MattTheGoAnimator) make her either the main troublemaker of the family instead of (or in addition to) Caillou or just as callous and abusive as the rest.
    • In some videos, she will have the same toddlerish You No Take Candle grammar as she does in canon. In others, she speaks in mostly perfect grammar with the exception of speaking in third person. In still others, she will be portrayed as speaking perfectly.
  • Extreme Doormat: Has a tendency to be easily bossed around by her older brother.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted. She's a redhead, but easily the most mild-tempered and timid member of Caillou's family.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Responsible to Caillou's foolish, often being the voice of reason while Caillou is the troublemaker. However in the Rosie gets grounded videos, Caillou is the Straight Man Responsible to Rosie's Annoying Younger Sibling and Bratty Half-Pint Foolish.
  • Hero Antagonist: Arguably a straighter example than Boris — she is usually portrayed as a sensible, virtuous little girl, but still getting in the way of Caillou.
  • Iron Woobie: She's constantly getting picked on by Caillou, but she doesn't really complain about it.
  • It Runs in the Family: She and Doris are both (Mostly in Deconstruction videos) shown to be calmer and/or more moral than their brother and husband, respectively.
  • Jerkass Ball: In videos in which she's characterized as an Annoying Younger Sibling and in which she's the troublemaker.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: Is the younger sister of Caillou, but usually wiser.
  • Nice Girl: The only truly nice member of the Caillou family.
  • Not So Above It All: Sometimes Rosie is just as much of a troublemaker as her brother.
  • Only Sane Man: Rosie is consistently shown to be the most level-headed out of all her family members. Not that that's saying much.
  • Parental Favoritism: Rosie is treated much better by her parents than Caillou is.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Matt TheGoAnimator's videos tend to portray her as being racist against Mexicans.
  • Prone to Tears: One of the few things she has in common with her canon counterpart is that they both cry a lot.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Caillou. She is nice, obedient, and sane, whereas Caillou is a jerk.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: The Only Sane Man of the Caillou family who is the shortest of them, unless you count Cody, Daisy or Emily, who are normally smarter than her.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Many times, Caillou's schemes end with Rosie dead. Regardless, she returns without harm in later videos.
  • Third-Person Person: A few video makers have her talk in third person, such as African Vulture's early videos.
  • Token Good Teammate: Seems to be the only member of Caillou's family not to be a jerk. She does still have her troublemaking moments, though.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Rosie rarely gets wise to Caillou's schemes and inevitably has some sort of calamity befall her thanks to him.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In "Caillou's Teenhood" and in videos where she's the troublemaker, she could fall under this.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: A few videos show Starbucks as her favorite restaurant, with others going with the a direct competitor to Chuck E. Cheese's (and thus her brother), Peter Piper Pizza.
  • Vague Age: Sometimes, Rosie is a baby who can barely talk (like she is in the actual Caillou TV show), but other times she is speaking coherently and regularly does the things that a six-year-old would do.
  • Vocal Evolution: After Shy Girl got removed, her voice became Salli, thus making her sound older.
  • The Woobie: It's quite easy to feel bad for her, being the Token Good Teammate of a Dysfunctional Family and all.

    Gilbert

Caillou's cat. Even though he doesn't speak in words the rest of Caillou's family can understand him.

  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Sometimes shown as white instead of grey.
  • Cats Are Mean: Downplayed. He's more naughty than actually mean. A rare few videos actually play this straight, with Gilbert taking part in the schemes of other characters or taking part in a Punishment Day.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Of the Silent Snarker variety. He will do things like hiss to show disdain.
  • Character Tic: Tapping his head with his tail whenever he's thinking.
  • Cute Kitten: May or may not be an actual kitten, but still adorable nonetheless.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Caillou and his family understand his meows.
  • Nice Guy: He's very loyal to Caillou and doesn't question the latter's orders.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: A Cute Kitten.
  • Silent Snarker: His meows are sometimes shown in subtitles saying snarky things.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Caillou. He's usually portrayed as always sticking by him.
  • The Unintelligible: He only communicates by meowing.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Gilbert is usually represented in the videos as a stock cat character within the various themes, none of which look particularly like him. It's especially evident when Gilbert is played by the stock Cartoon Classics cat character, which is a white fluffy feminine looking cat.

    Caillou's grandparents

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/caillous_grandparents.png

Other characters

    Ms. Martin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miss_martin.PNG

Ms. Martin is Caillou's teacher at school. Much unlike her depiction in the original TV show, she's very impatient with her students and will send them to the principal at the drop of a hat. She's almost always voiced by Kate.

    Leo, Clementine and Sarah
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leoclementineandsarah.PNG

As they are in the actual Caillou series, Leo, Sarah, and Clementine are three of Caillou's classmates who commonly appear in "Caillou Gets Grounded" videos that take place at school. It would probably be a stretch to call them Caillou's friends here, but they are still (and quite often, depending on the user) sometimes portrayed that way.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: As to be expected by now, they are commonly portrayed as evil brats.
  • Adaptational Villainy: They were Caillou's friends in the original show, but now they're bullies to Caillou.
  • Asian Rudeness: Sarah is Asian and mean.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Never call Leo a ginger.
    • Don't call Clementine the N-word unless you want to be tattled on.
  • The Bully: They are always picking on Caillou.
  • Butt-Monkey: Not that they don't deserve it, but they commonly are given a hard time by Caillou and Ms. Martin.
  • The Chew Toy: All three are frequent targets of Caillou's schemes. They almost always have it coming because of the way they treat Caillou.
  • Depending on the Writer: Whether or not they are actually friends with Caillou seems to vary. They can either actually be Caillou's friends, whether they misbehave with him or will blow the whistle on him when Caillou causes trouble, or they can hate Caillou's guts just like everyone else.
  • The Dividual: They mostly appear together (most notably in classroom scenes) and are either there to be Caillou's best friends (and ditch him when ever they get a chance) or be bullies to him. Even their standards listed below are similar.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: In some videos, Leo has the nickname of Ginger gaylord.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: And it's often Caillou's idiocy that gets to them.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Leo thinks that making fun of redheads goes too far.
    • Clementine is mean but she draws the line at black people being discriminated.
  • Evil Redhead: Leo has red hair and is a jerk.
  • Gang of Bullies: The three of them are always seen together and they insult Caillou frequently.
  • Good Is Not Nice: They are supposedly on the side on good, but each of them are awful friends to Caillou.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: They attempt to stop Caillou, but even he could look like a saint in comparison to them.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Sometimes they'll be friends with Caillou, sometimes they are his enemies.
  • In-Series Nickname: Some videos will give Leo the nickname of Ginger Gaylord or some sort of derogatory term for redheaded people.
  • It Runs in the Family: Clementine's Mom is sometimes shown to have as much of a temper problem as her daughter.
  • Jerkass: They love to tell Caillou how much they hate him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Yes, they are jerks, but a lot of the stuff they do chew out Caillou for (E.G. A spoiled brat, a troublemaker, a racist) are true.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Even though they often get away with picking on Caillou, there are some occasions where they're punished for their actions.
  • Kids Are Cruel: They're commonly mean-spirited, especially towards Caillou.
  • Living Prop: Unless they are central to the videos plot, they largely serve as this in Caillou's classroom scenes, especially the girls.
  • Moral Myopia: They don't like when Caillou makes fun of their appearance, yet they are fine with attacking him for being bald.
  • Not So Above It All: Leo is sometimes willing to be just as much of a troublemaker as Caillou, to the point where he's teamed up with the latter to cause trouble on a few occasions.
  • Repetitive Name: There are some videos that imply that Clementine's full name is Clementine Clementine.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Clementine's GoAnimate incarnation could give her counterpart in the cartoon a run for her money.
  • Ship Tease: Clementine and Sarah tend to get hinted as being in love with Leo.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Will tattle on Caillou the second he does something wrong.
  • Teacher's Pet: All three of them are sometimes portrayed as Miss Martin's favorite students, especially Leo. Sometimes they are even shown conspiring with Miss Martin to humiliate Caillou together.
  • Terrible Trio: Always seen together, and they verbally abuse Caillou.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: On the other hand, a significant number of videos where they appear tends to have them as actual friends who show true kindness towards Caillou. Ironically, in these videos, Rosie, Boris or Daisy are often the target instead.
  • Two Girls and a Guy: Sarah and Clementine are the girls, and Leo is the guy.
  • With Friends Like These...: Even in videos where they actually seem to be friends with Caillou, the minute Caillou does something stupid they will be sure to tell someone and get him grounded.

    Mr. Hinkle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrhinkle_4.PNG

Caillou's neighbor, Mr. Hinkle is commonly portrayed as a fairly cranky old man who isn't always happy to see Caillou, in stark contrast to the reasonably friendly man he is canonically. He's another of Caillou's most frequent targets for trouble-making.

    Clementine's Mom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clemmom.PNG

Clementine's Mom is usually shown to be the principal at Caillou's school, and as such, she is one of the people Caillou meets the most often there. She's almost always voiced by Kimberly.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Probably gets this the least as far as the Caillou characters go (she's more exasperated and strict than an outright Jerkass), but she's still significantly more harsh than she is canonically.
  • Black Boss Lady: She's a black woman and the principal of Caillou's school.
  • Dean Bitterman: While not usually portrayed as evil like Ms. Martin, she's easily exasperated by Caillou and the things he does at school, and largely ignores anything Ms. Martin does to him or anyone else.
  • Depending on the Writer: Whether or not she's a mean principal or not depends on the user.
  • Green and Mean: Wears a green shirt and is commonly portrayed as strict, although she isn't as bad as most adult characters.
  • It Runs in the Family: She is shown to have just as much of a temper problem as her daughter.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Caillou is a legitimate trouble maker, though any sympathy that can be given to her for that would be cancelled out by her tendencies to expel him or suspend him at the drop of a hat.
  • No Name Given: Unlike Boris and Doris, there is no adopted name for her in the grounded videos.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Downplayed, but she tends to get exasperated and snarky easily.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: On the other hand, she is often portrayed as more reasonable and thoughtful than the teachers, and will sometimes help Caillou out when he's being treated unfairly.

    Billy Clementine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/billy.PNG

Clementine's older brother.

    Claire and Derek Tubler
Leo's parents, who commonly appear in videos where Leo is the one getting grounded.
  • Abusive Parents: In a few videos where Leo is the target, they tend to come off as right sourpusses towards him.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: It's to be expected already, but they're a lot nastier than Leo's actual parents.
  • Adaptational Villainy: They're Caillou characters. What did you expect? They're often the antagonists when Leo is portrayed as good.
  • Depending on the Writer: In most videos in which they appear, they are either just as bad as the other parents, other times they are portrayed as willing to defend Leo.
  • Jerkass: Nearly goes without saying; they're often mean to Leo.

    Classic Caillou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goanimate_classic_caillou.png
In videos where Caillou is a good guy, some video makers introduce his grey or beige-shirted design from the early seasons of the show as a separate character. In comparison to "Modern" Caillou, Classic Caillou is often even worse than Caillou, and tends to get into even more trouble as a result. YouTubers like RackAnimate and KnucklesHedgehog2010 tend to feature Caillou as a protagonist, and Classic Caillou as the main antagonist. In comparatively-few videos, Classic Caillou is also considered to be good.

Original Caillou-related Characters

    Boris the Teeth Guy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_boris.JPG

Whether as a transformation of Boris or as a separate person, Boris the Teeth Guy (sometimes also known as Evil Boris or Red Boris) stays the same: A completely red version of Boris with enlarged facial features who is incredibly violent, excessively foul-mouthed, and even racist who regularly punishes everybody, not just Caillou.

  • Abusive Parents: Whenever he's a transformation of Boris, he'll be a bad dad to Caillou, giving him over-the-top punishments.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: He's a human, and is red.
  • The Bully: He's normally given the habit of beating up everyone he comes acrosss.
  • Canon Foreigner: As if the description didn't make it obvious, Red Boris is a original GoAnimate character who didn't appear in the original show.
  • Catchphrase:
    • "Face my teeth! Face it!"
    • "BAS-TARDED BAS!"/"BAS-TARD OF ASS!"
    • "WHAT DO YOU THINK I'LL DO NEXT?! TO BE CONTINUED ON WAH-AY-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AH!"
  • Cluster F-Bomb: He swears almost constantly in his dialogue.
  • Decomposite Character: Sometimes he's a special form of Boris, but most of the time he's an entirely separate character, even going up against his original counterpart on occasion.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: He loves racist humor.
  • Eviler than Thou: He tends to be the only character treated as genuinely evil across the majority of videos.
  • Green and Mean: A guy with a green shirt who's evil.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He is always angry no matter what.
  • Jerkass: He's never been nice to anyone.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Whenever he's thwarted or taken away at the end of one of his rampages, he'll almost always spout off one of his Catchphrases, "WHAT DO YOU THINK I'LL DO NEXT?! TO BE CONTINUED ON WAH-AY-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AH!"
  • Motor Mouth: Speaks in long-winded sentences peppered in swear words.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: You can't blame everyone else for having a fear of him.
  • No Indoor Voice: He's always shouting and never lowers his voice.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: If he starts speaking quietly and isn't shouting, then you know something is wrong.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Always has an angry expression on his face.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Racial epithets are sometimes mixed into his dialogue.
  • Red Is Violent: Has red skin and is perpetually pissed off.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Can hardly even go a single sentence without saying one swear word.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Even though he shouts all the time, his appearances will usually end with him yelling "WHAT (THE [insert expletives here]) DO YOU THINK I'LL DO NEXT? TO BE CONTINUED ON WAH-AY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AGH."
  • Volumetric Mouth: Most of his depictions have his mouth increased to its max size, giving way to his name "Boris the Teeth Guy".

    Green Boris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/green_boris.PNG

The logical opposite of Boris the Teeth Guy, Green Boris is Boris' always-positive and overly happy counterpart. Obsessed with buns for some reason, Green Boris tends to get into trouble from irritating others as a result of his unbridled kindness and joy. He doesn't mean it though.

    Daisy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daisy.PNG

Daisy is an original younger sister of Caillou and Rosie who's featured in several GoAnimate series. While her age varies depending on the user, she often gets into more trouble than both her elder brother and sister combined, and has been on the receiving end of several punishment days. Usually voiced by Emma.

  • Ax-Crazy: Possibly gets this from her father; she's often portrayed as psycho and evil.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Could even give Caillou a run for his money.
  • Canon Foreigner: Like Daillou and Boris the Teeth Guy, she is an original GoAnimate Character who didn't appear in the original show.
  • Cute and Psycho: Pretty cute in appearance but she's audacious and violent.
  • Enfant Terrible: In most of her appearances in videos. Most of the time, she actually surpasses both her siblings' misdeeds in terms of audacity and sheer violence.
  • Evil Brit: Has a British accent in some videos and is a villain.
  • Evil Redhead / Fiery Redhead: Like her sister, Rosie, but worse. She's a redhead and commonly even more troublesome than Caillou.
  • Green and Mean: Daisy is violent, crazy, raving, and wears a green shirt.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Wears an eye-bleedingly bright green button-up shirt over a bright magenta skirt and dark blue high heels.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: In Matt TheGoAnimator's videos, Daisy shares Rosie's hatred of Mexicans and anything Mexican.
  • Third-Person Person: She speaks this way by some users, for example, "Daisy agree with Rosie."
  • Those Two Guys: Some interpretations of Daisy place her as the twin sister of Cody, and the two often appear together in stories featuring them.
  • Unexplained Accent: The rest of her family is Canadian but speak in American accents, but she has a British accent.

    Emily
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emilygoanimate.png
Cody's younger sister, Emily is the purple-haired younger sibling of Cody, and in most videos where she appears is the youngest member of the Caillou family. Depending on whether Daillou is present, she's either Caillou's fifth or sixth sibling.
  • Odd Name Out: Out of Caillou's sisters, (Rosie, Daisy, Emily and Lily) Emily is normally the only sister not to be named after a plant.
  • Only Sane Man: Appears to almost never get into trouble, and normally appears on the receiving end of her two elder sisters' malice. When she does cause trouble, it can be catastrophic.

    Daillou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daillou.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solitairejokerdaillou.PNG
Daillou as depicted in SolitaireJoker's videos

Daillou is a twin of Caillou who is featured in several videos, usually as either a 'kinder' counterpart to Caillou or a friend who Caillou can misbehave and scheme with. Unlike Caillou, Daillou wears a red shirt. One of Daillou's most famous portrayals is that of the user SolitaireJoker, where Daillou is a big time "bad boy" Kidanova.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: He behaves like a "bad boy" in Solitaire Joker's videos, and says that girls adore him.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Daillou is a goofy sex maniac but he nearly wins his brawl with Boris in "Caillou's Teenhood".
  • Body Horror: In "Caillou's Teenhood", his head is abnormally shaped, and his ear is twisted on the bottom of his head.
  • Canon Foreigner: Another original GoAnimate character.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Daillou's red shirt as opposed to Caillou's yellow shirt. Most other "long lost twin brothers" of Caillou tend to have their own shirt colors as well, to distinguish them from the real Caillou.
  • Dirty Kid: In Solitaire Joker's videos, he is a self-proclaimed "sexy" kid who knows a lot about sex, seeing as how he had to teach a grown man how to get laid.
  • Expy: In Solitaire Joker and Isaac Anderson's Caillou's Teenhood, he lacks his bad boy personality, and instead is a wheelchair-bound Stephen Hawking expy, complete with text-to-speech voice.
  • Flat Character: Daillou is often simply a duplicate of Caillou distinguished only by his different colored shirt. A select few users (such as Solitaire Joker) do try to set Daillou apart from Caillou himself by giving him his own quirks and ways that he rolls. (In the case of the specifically cited user, Daillou is a stereotypical "bad boy" with a scar on his face.)
  • Handicapped Badass: In "Caillou's Teenhood", he's shown in a wheelchair but he still puts up a good battle against Boris. He may have lost the fight, but hey.
  • Informed Attractiveness: In the Solitaire Joker videos. He is said by many characters including himself to be "sexy", but he just looks like Caillou with a red shirt and a scar. Caillou in question is called ugly by characters in-universe too, although that may be just because of his Butt-Monkey status.
  • Kidanova: All the ladies love him. He even calls himself "sexy".
  • Leitmotif: In Solitaire Joker's videos, every time he starts talking, "Sexyback" plays in the background.
  • Long-Lost Uncle Aesop: Daillou tends to be introduced this way when he starts getting featured in a user's grounded videos.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: In videos by SolitaireJoker videos, he's a funny guy who has sex with many different women.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The In-between to Rosie's Nice and Caillou's Mean.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Daillou doesn't act like his goofy sex maniac self in "Caillou's Teenhood" and is much more serious, due to being injured by Boris. His Leitmotif of "Sexyback" doesn't play when he talks, either.
  • Palette Swap: Daillou and any other -aillou characters tend to be this. Daillou is just the most notable one.
  • Perpetual Expression: In "Caillou's Teenhood", his face is perpetually in an expression of pain due to the awful abuse that Boris gave him.
  • Really Gets Around: Solitaire Joker's videos claim that he has had sex with a lot of women.
  • Red Is Heroic: His shirt is red, but whether or not he's a hero depends on the user.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Other times Daillou is just suddenly there with Caillou's family without much explanation.
  • Theme Twin Naming: He and his twin brother have rhyming names.

    Uolliac
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andtheuolliacandtheuolliacandtheuolliacweaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.PNG
And the Uolliac and the Uolliac and the Uolliac WEEA-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AH

Caillou's bizarro counterpart whose antics defy all explanation. Uolliac's exact origins are a mystery, but one thing's for certain: whenever he shows up and no matter what form he takes, things will quickly get weird. He's voiced by Jennifer.

  • Broken Record: A common trait with the Uolliac and the Uolliac and the Uolliac and the Uolliac...
  • Canon Foreigner: Quite obviously, the Uolliac is an original character created in these videos.
  • Canon Immigrant: An unusual example contained entirely within the grounded videos: Uolliac originated as a deformed version of Caillou used in the satirical videos by NotSmirks. The fandom took a shining to the character, however and wound up making the Uolliac into the character that he is in the grounded videos now.
  • Chaotic Neutral: Despite constantly warping everything around him, Uolliac doesn't usually harbor any ill-will to the people he bumps into (but they do get caught up in the Uolliac's and the Uolliac's and the Uolliac's warping).
  • Clone by Conversion: Rarely seen in a few deleted videos, such as to an unlucky security guard in a deleted video titled "Five Nights At Uolliac's 2".
  • Crossdressing Voices: "Oh no my voice is still Jennifer WEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH."
  • Excrement Statement: Uolliac is seen pooping on people a lot.
  • Gonk: While some depictions of Uolliac simply have him as a constantly crying duplicate of Caillou, other depictions (or other versions of him anyway) have him as a deformed version of Caillou.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Uolliac completely shatters the laws of physics by seemingly the simple act of existing, considers temperatures hotter than the sun to be too cold, and sometimes comes in a wide variety of bizarre forms. It's even implied in some of his portrayals that there's a whole species of Uolliacs.
  • Insistent Terminology: It's not strawberry shortcake it's strayberry strayberry strayberry strayberry strayberry shtcake a-a-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-aah!!!
  • Perpetual Frowner: 90% of the time he's crying for seemingly no reason.
  • Reality Warper: His mere existence seems to warp time and space around it.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: His name is a backwards version of "Caillou".
  • Spell My Name with a "The": Though he lacks it in his name, he never announces his presence merely as "Uolliac", but "the Uolliac".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Strayberry strayberry strayberry shtcake. Also seems fond of McDonald's.
  • Verbal Tic: Several, but most notably "And the Uolliac and the Uolliac and the Uolliac" and "WEEA-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AH".

    Cody
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1gdggdgd.png

Caillou's son in the now-terminated Isaac Anderson videos, and the younger sibling of Caillou and Rosie (as well as Daisy in the "Matt The GoAnimator" videos) in some other users' videos.
