  • Warrior Prince: Sharkungo isn't just the Stare Lore champion, he's also Prince of the Shakun Star and doesn't hesitate to fight when the Dark Force army invades his planet, or to fly to the Earth to help their defense.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: He's a Star Lore superstar who fights with the Star Yui martial art of the Shakun Star. It's remarkable how closely professional wrestling on Earth resembles it.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/riko.bmp

  • Butt-Monkey: Often the receiving end of this, especially when she tries to tease Fei.
  • Cute Monster Girl: A cute youkai girl.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As per being a cute youkai girl. Comes equipped with ears and a tail.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Never misses a chance to snark, though Fei hits back when she tries it on him.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Ri-ko and Platinum are both prone to snarking in general, usually as one-off commentary on the current situation. But every once in a while, they'll catch each other in each other's sights and start snarking at each other's throats until someone gets between them!
  • Youkai

    Platinum
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/platinum.bmp
Director and Mechanic for PMEC - Platinum Monster Extermination Company. A Gadgeteer Genius who develops PMEC's technology to include her own weaponry.

  • Gadgeteer Genius: Develops the tech that PMEC uses, makes modifications for her own weapons, and comes up with tech solutions at several points throughout the game.

  • Hunter of Monsters: As part of PMEC.
  • More Dakka: Her main weapons are large cannons. Her transcendental abilities increasingly saturate the target area in cannon fire.
  • Physical, Mystical, Technological: In the PMEC team, she is the technological, designing and constructing the gadgets that the team uses to include the magic detector used throughout the game, and the shoulder-mounted cannons that she uses for her attacks.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Ri-ko and Platinum are both prone to snarking in general, usually as one-off commentary on the current situation. But every once in a while, they'll catch each other in each other's sights and start snarking at each other's throats until someone gets between them!
  • Wrench Wench: Is a mechanical genius and can quickly visualize tech upgrades.

    Kurogane
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurogane.bmp
Member of PMEC an the 48th generation Kurobane-ryu heir. A skilled swordswoman and demon hunter, and very easy-going to the point of ditziness when off the clock.
  • Action Girl
  • Arch-Nemesis: Is sworn to keep the Dream Demon King sealed away, though they have a complex relationship about that.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's The Ditz of the team and very easy-going. But when it's time to fight, she's extraordinarily capable.
  • Curse That Cures: Kurogane is sworn to oppose Meard, the Dream Demon King, but partway through the story is fatally wounded and seconds away from death. Maerd offers her a deal: swear herself to him and he will save her life. It becomes a pretty cool powerup that makes her even more combat-ready in the end game, but it's still to choose between dying on the spot or embracing the Dream Demon King that your lineage has been opposing for 48 generations.
  • The Ditz: The most easy-going member of the party to the point of airheadedness.
  • Hunter of Monsters: As part of PMEC.
  • Physical, Mystical, Technological: In the PMEC team, she is the physical. While her training as the 48th generation Kurogane and her association with the Dream Demon King give her some mysical aspects, she is primarily a melee attacker and relies on her sword skills in combat.

    Emerald
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emerald.bmp
Member of PMEC and resident telepath. A mysterious child with huge potential.
  • Awesome, but Temporary: Her abilities are not informed, but she does not stay on long.
  • Damsel in Distress: Gets kidnapped by the Dark Force army once they realize that a super powerful child telepath is exactly the sort of magical item to add to their collection.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Is extraordinarily powerful, but disappears early on.
  • Living MacGuffin: MacGuffin Super-Person. Emerald gets kidnapped for her immense magical power.
  • Mystical Waif: She's of uncertain origins, rarely says more than a few words at a time when she does speak, but is one of the most powerful members of the team due to her psychic ability. She's also something of a clairvoyant and knows when sometimes is about to happen, and seems to be able to detect people's intentions or trustworthiness.
  • Physical, Mystical, Technological: In the PMEC team, she is the mystical, being the superpowered telepathic child who begins the game with immense offensive and healing telepathic powers.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being a small child, Emerald is one of the most powerful empaths. A shame the magic-seeking bad guys also recognize this.
  • Psychic Children: Is a powerful enough empath to know events before they happen, even when they originate in space.

    Zophy
A hero of 100 battles who was raised by the phoenix, the Flame Princess Eternya. A warrior of justice who never gives in to evil, and whose fist can shatter huge rocks to pieces. Though quiet and a little unfriendly, he is a friend to all children and has a kind and sincere heart. He has joined with King Leo, David, and his other friends to challenge Blackberry's pyramid and stop her evil schemes.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zophy.bmp

  • Arch-Nemesis: Is this to Blackberry.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: In a game filled with muscle-bound heroes and villains, Zophy is especially drawn with a powerful, massively-developed physique to go with his sheer physical power.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: He lives in the wilds and adventures with a talking lion, wears little more than a golden loincloth and some jewelry. Shoes don't make the cut.
  • Gentle Giant: A massive man and can smash boulders with his fist and wears a stern face. He's also a kind man and is comforting when rescuing children.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: No weapons, no power armour, he just punches out enemies.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Only ever seen in bracelets and ankle rings, a headband, and a thong.
  • Worthy Opponent: Is this for V.
  • Wild Man: Zophy is practically the poster child of the trope, a taciturn man raised in the wilderness who wanders into adventure with nothing more than a loincloth and some golden jewelry and a mountain of muscles.

    King Leo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leo.bmp
The King of Beasts and Zophy's best friend. Was granted speech by the Flame Princess Eternya. Is gentle and kind with wide knowledge. On his off-time, he enjoys reading and listening to classical music.
  • Cultured Badass: Enjoys reading and classical music as hobbies. Will also lunge into combat to bite the face off a Clay Kid.
  • King of Beasts: Explicitly described as such, owing as much to the blessings of the Phoenix as to his station as a lion.
  • Mysterious Animal Senses: He's developed keen insights in his 200 years of life.
  • Panthera Awesome
  • Talking Animal: He's unique in the world of Extrapower for being an animal who can talk: even when Giant Fist presents animals that the human characters know by name, they are perfectly normal animals who do not speak human language.
  • Uplifted Animal: King Leo is a 200 year old talking lion who owes his sentience to a blessing of the flame princess.

    David & Marian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/davimari.bmp
Popularly truncated to Davie and Marie or DeviMari. Friends of Zophy and King Leo who follow them around and play a supportive role in their adventures. Davie is fond of the Snake Whip.
  • Badass Normal: They're simply two of Zophy's friends who follow him around. They might not have the pure physical might of the other teammates, but they're charging into battle with the rest of them for support.
  • Snake Whip: Davie's weapon of choice is the Snake Whip, which transforms into a snake's head to bite the foe.
  • Those Two Guys: They also serve as this between episodes, giving oft-sarcastic commentary.

    V
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/v.bmp
A young man whose heart has been replaced by an ore called Hakugami, and so can transform into the beast god Verzerga. Because the ore heart is an immensely powerful Upgrade Artifact for demons, it makes him a regular target for attack.
  • Cursed with Awesome: He will never stop being hunted by demons. On the plus side, he gets a powerful fighting form that can slaughter enemies with fist and claw.
  • Driven to Suicide: By the time V is encountered, he has lived his life hunted by demons who wish to steal his heart. And in a previous encounter, his sister Victoria got involved and was killed. With little else to live for, he beseeches Magma-O to accept his heart and melt it in his lava, knowing that this will kill him as well as keep it out of the hands of demons forever.
  • Hereditary Curse: The ore heart has cursed his family for generations, always ensuring that the Earth will have a bearer to fight as Verzerga whenever the need might be, but also condemns the bloodline to demon interest.
  • Heroic Suicide: Even though he knows that giving his ore heart to Magma-O will destroy himself too, he is willing to do this to permanently prevent the demons of Malice from obtaining its power and causing more destruction.
  • One-Letter Name: V.
  • Worthy Opponent: Is this for Zophy.

    Blackberry
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackberry.bmp
A pyramid witch who seeks to revive the ancient wizard Diamond Mine. Her plans are often foiled by Zophy.
  • Action Girl
  • Arch-Nemesis: To Zophy, who tries to prevent her goal of reviving the ancient wizard Diamond Mine.
  • Combat Tentacles: Among the repertoire of magic attacks that the pyramid witch Blackberry has available is the Call of Abyss spell, which summons a host of otherworldly tentacles to rise from the floor and thrash the foe.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Blackberry is arrogant, cold, distant, but by the end of the game develops a camaraderie with the team.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Becomes this after her wardrobe upgrade.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Blackberry is not pleased at all that her old friends back in Ispares still remember her as Agnes Black
  • Evil Sorceror: She fancies herself to be this, and frequently reminds Zophy that their objectives are still opposed despite their Crisis Crossover alliance.
  • Lady of Black Magic
  • Magic Is Evil: Is willing to let people believe this about her and uses this belief for intimidation.
  • The Magocracy: Blackberry's goal in reviving the ancient wizard Diamond Mine is to create rulership of mages over the world and humanity, led by the ancient and powerful Diamond Mine himself. Zophy and his companions oppose her believing that he would be a Sorcerous Overlord. Given that his followers in ancient times had sealed him inside a diamond, they might be onto something. Thanks to Undata's interference, she misses out on the window to fully revive Diamond Mine and instead performs a ritual to become the second generation Diamond Mine - Diamond Black. It remains to be seen whether she becomes the Benevolent Mage Ruler she imagines or a Sorcerous Overlord for Zophy to bring down. The wizards of her old hometown of the Hidden Elf Village Ispares, meanwhile, are supportive of her attempts to either revive Diamond Mine or claim his power: as Manuela puts it, it can be useful for the wizards if their childhood friend enforces magic rulership.
  • Summon Magic: Her transcendental attacks involve summoning a host of monsters and demons to attack for her.

    Crown and Fool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crownfool.bmp
Two youths from Espares who are loaned to the team. Pure sadists, they relish in violence and don't care who receives it.
  • Ax-Crazy: They are barely controlled by the team, and they're given a whistle to blow in case they do lose control.
  • Cute and Psycho: Two completely Ax-Crazy sadists with barely any loyalty to the player characters' team, only relishing the opportunity to kill and not caring if ally units get in the way of their area of effect attacks. They're also undeniably cute. This is even more apparent after their art upgrade in Giant Fist, where they cameo as trash talking dealers in the casino minigame.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Crown and Fool are homicidal, sadistic, and barely kept in control by the team. If an ally gets caught in their area of effect attack, they'll happily chop them up just as easy as they would an enemy.
  • Gasoline Dousing: As part of their Kill It with Fire attacks.
  • Kill It with Fire: Some of Crown and Fool's more powerful attacks involve them dousing the enemy in gasoline and lighting them on fire.
  • Sociopathic Hero: With more emphasis on sociopath, and a nominal one on hero.
  • Token Evil Teammate: There really isn't any other reason for them to join the fight than to commit more violence. There's really no reason keeping them from not attacking the team either.

    Guren Tiger/Kojiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gurentiger.bmp
Kojiro Mido. Karate artist who used to partake in dojo storming before his mentor was attacked and killed by Tarantula and imparted the Guren Stones to him.

    Gecko Wolf/Ryo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/geckowolf.bmp
Let's deal with this guy in just 3 minutes

  • Badass Boast: Is prone to giving these, usually involving how little time it'll take to finish the fight.

  • Action Girl: She reliably kicks butt throughout the game, but is weighed down by doubts. She fully comes into this through the course of her arc.
  • Expy: Of Pretty Cure. Regular school girl warrior of light helping a Ridiculously Cute Critter protect their kingdom's princess from a clan of shadow people using the aid of prismatic stones? Check, check, check, check, check, check!
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: When Ruritia is encountered in a district of Tokyo, the entire town has already turned against her. The rookie Hikari Warrior is stationed there to protect the hiding place of the Seven Colour Princess, and the local public has put all the blame on her for the damage caused when the Yami Clan shows up to find her. And now that Undata and his Clay Kids are lobbing missiles and laser blasts everywhere, even more blame is put on her head. It's quickly decided that the only choice to make is to prematurely release the Princess from her slumber and go on the run.
  • Frilly Upgrade: Gets this once she finally completes her character growth.
  • Magical Girl: Influenced by classic depictions of these in her design and portrayal.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: She's definitely a magical girl, complete with Transformation Sequence, skirts and cute pet sidekick. She also swings a magic sword and is just as capable in melee combat.

  • Rainbow Motif: As the Blue Hikari Warrior.

  • Badass Normal: Among every other alien, superpowered, magical and demonic ally on the team, Toyama is just a middle-aged wrestler with a shotgun, and kicks butt.

  • Family Man: And proud of it.
  • Happily Married: He and his wife are tag team wrestling partners, dote after a daughter they've sent off to school. And in certain attacks, his wife appears in spirit to augment his attack.

  • Daywalking Vampire: She has no problem being deployed in daytime episodes.
  • Fan Disservice: Yukiko is usually the Stripperific Ms. Fanservice who dresses in Combat Stilettos and a bikini. It's sexy, but less sexy when Kurogane discovers her headless body leaving a blood smear on the wall. Unnerving, but lucky for Yukiko a minor setback with her vampiric healing.
  • Friendly Neighbourhood Vampire: She's on good terms with the PMEC team even before the alien invasion. Afterwards, it doesn't take any convincing to get her to fight for the good guys.
  • Immortality: She's been killed for real, her headless body even seen on-screen. She gets better though.
  • Inhumanly Beautiful Race
  • Ms. Fanservice: A glamorous vampire woman who dresses in a scant bikini and heels.

  • Healthcare Motivation: Securing Flamberge's ongoing medical treatment is his motivation to hunt down the other bem.

  • Comical Translation: Translation: "Yes", sometimes the result of needing to be translated by Shiira. It does get Lamp Shaded.
  • Does Not Speak Common: Among the humans from across the Earth and alien and demonic characters, Nimon is the only one who speaks in a way that others cannot understand.
  • Fish People: Unlike Shiira and Juno, Nimon looks like a giant, scaley, bipedal fish with arms.

  • Admiring the Abomination: Dr. Belhem is in deep admiration of the Bem species. They are an extraterrestrial organism that propagates by assimilating other organisms and slaughtering non-infected members of the host specie. There is already an outbreak of them in Europe, leaving ghost towns behind as their numbers grow. Dr. Belhem has the dangerous idea that the Bem hold the key to human development and always speaks in excitement about how they can shape the future of humanity. You'd think this would make him a clear cut Face–Heel Turn candidate. It doesn't.
  • Evilutionary Biologist: The resident biologist on the team, who believes that the key to humans' evolutionary development is in an extraterrestrial assimilator species that transforms infected humans into a Evil Is Visceral Hive Mind. Thankfully, he keeps his interests theoretical - eager, but theoretical - during the game.

  • Delicate and Sickly: With the infestation of the host woman incomplete, Flamerge is left in a desperate condition. This prompts Gradius to hunt other bem for the SPICA team to guarantee her continued medical attention.

Also counts as Back from the Dead as Liu Jei and the Kanedama-kan were last seen being destroyed, with Liu himself torn in half. The Bem

Parasitic assimilators from outer space.

    Bem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bem.bmp
Giyoyooo
An unidentified parasitic organism that came to Earth attached to a meteorite.
  • The Assimilator: The parasitic bem spreads by infecting humans and assimilating them into another bem. By the time the game begins, several towns in Europe have already been lost.
  • Darwinist Desire: This in general is the desire of the bem. Apart from the general survival and propagation of their species by assimilating humans, they seek out superior genetics where they can to produce superior offspring. Francisca identifies Gradius as having superior enough genetics that the two of them should become mates, but his assimilation of a young boy Hans gave Gradius his romantic feelings for the girl who used to be Martina, putting conflict between him and Francisca. The bem eventually capture another human with superior cells, assimilate him with exceptional bem, and produce Gael Bolg, the apex of their species.
  • Dying Race: Ultimately their motivation is to maintain their existence as a species and settle in a new home, the assimilation of humanity being an unfortunate side effect. They do not take the human pushback well.
  • Evil Is Visceral: Bem and the places they infest are covered in red, gutsy-like musculature, and drip with blood-like fluid.
  • Extremophile Lifeforms: Able to safely travel through the void of space until reaching a new planet to colonize. Much like Edelweiss in Star Resistance.
  • Posthumous Villain Victory: Ultimately what they seek is continued existence. Even with the defeat and eradication of the Bem Colony from Earth, Gradius still remains as a friend of the heroes, becoming the hope of the bem.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bemsoldier.bmp
Bemmen parasitizing human soldiers. The Bem Gunner variety makes use of the rifles taken from their human hosts.
  • Mooks: The common foot soldiers of the bemmen. Even when the Bem Gunner type arm themselves with rifles, their primary advantage is producing a large amount of low-quality fodder.

    Francisca
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/franziska.bmp
Lady bem who leads the bem vanguard. Her Panzer Arm transforms the tentacles of her head into a hatchet. She demands that Gradius joins the bem.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Sure she might be a parasitic alien who transformed a human victim into a monster covered in blood and viscera and transformative combat tentacles, but there's a cuteness to that blood-highlighted deathly pallor.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Only has eyes for Gradius and is obsessed with becoming mates with him.
  • Stalker with a Test Tube: Her obsession over Gradius isn't purely romantic. She believes that Gradius is such an exceptional specimen of a bem, it is his obligation to mate with her to produce even more remarkable offspring.

    Zweihander
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zweihander.bmp
Lady bem whose Panzer Arms combine into a big sword. Top class among the bem, but power is not as good as Gae Bolg.

  • Extendable Arms: Always fought suspended from the ceiling, with their arm stretching out to several times their own height.
  • Killer Space Monkey: Monkeys with extendable arms to better assail buildings and attack in enclosed spaces.
  • Maniac Monkeys: With a sinister reputation that almost makes them The Dreaded of Dark Force's army.

    Plasma Boss
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/plasmaboss.bmp
Gigi, gigogogiii...
A large tank-type robot in the Dark Force army's mechanical units. Its super energy cannon, "Mega Plasma Cannon", is extremely powerful and can erase all objects in its range.
  • Sapient Tank: Actually one of these, rather than being piloted.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: For all the reasons under Elite Mook. At least Sinner Shaper and Stone Mack are limited to close range attack! Getting caught between two Plasma Boss is a quick way to lose half the team.
  • Elite Mook: They start showing up halfway through the game and are one of the deadliest units in the Dark Force Army. They are big, durable, and their Mega Plasma Cannon fires a wide, devestating blast that can attack from off-screen. And they come in pairs at a minimum, while paired with other Mooks and Elite Mook!

    Stone Mack

Goshuu!
A large fighting machine in the Dark Force mechanical units. On top of its overwhelming mass and horsepower, it has the hardness of rock. Its special move "Stomping" has it hurtle from the sky to crush its foe.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: An enemy so massive, it even takes up multiple tiles on the battle map. It happily puts its bulk to use by launching into the air and crushing its enemies on landing.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: As the mechanical counterpart to Sinner Shaper, it's deadly for much the same reason. Only this giant adds a stomp attack to crush enemies in melee range on top of it.
  • Elite Mook: They show up in force towards the end of the game and are far more durable and deadly than a cluster of Clay Kids.

    Sinner Shaper

Uoooomu!
A massive soldier of the bioroid unit. He can change the hardness of his body at will, using his rubber-like flexibility and steel-like strength to his advantage.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: A massive enemy, even taking up multiple tiles of height on the battle map.
  • Bioweapon Beast: As with the rest of Mensouma's troops, these creatures are designed for combat.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: Just one Sinner Shaper takes the concentrated efforts of multiple teammates to bring down. They usually come in groups, surrounded by Mooks, and like other Elite Mook in Dark Force's army come in greater concentrations in later stages.
  • Elite Mook: They show up in force towards the end of the game and are far more durable and deadly than a cluster of Spy Fly.

    Sunny Day and Funny Face

Kyo-ro-ro-ro! Gou-gou-gou.
Commanders of the Dark Force Army in charge of mechanical units and miscellanious chores around the mothership. They are lower in rank below Mensouma and Undata.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Once you learn the bad guys' backstory. Helps that their goofiness makes them easy to love.
  • Bumbling Henchmen Duo: Practically the comic relief pair duo in the otherwise serious invasion army. As you later learn, they've never been too serious and always wanted to go into comedy.
  • Detachment Combat: Funny Face's normal attack is to disassemble his outer shell, having each part float out to attack the player before reassembling. As his parts fly off, you get a split second view of the shriveled husk of the person Funny Face used to be.
  • Kick the Dog: Sunny Day and Funny Face are such funny comic relief! Look at them avoiding chores around the mothership, being treated like flunkies, and directly attacking defenseless civilian population centers. The hero team comes across them for the first time in Italy, attacking a town of no particular strategic value. Turns out Sunny and Funny merely prefer civilian targets because they're easier to kill, and get upset when the heroes show up since they expected no "army" resistance.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Sure they can fight if you put them in a room with your enemies, but they can't even keep the super important shut-off mechanism a secret without telling you how secret it's supposed to be first.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: Once they're out of the picture for good, you know you're firmly in the final sequences.
  • Vile Villain, Laughable Lackey: One of them is going to be scrubbing the entire mothership after this latest blunder.

    Big Eagle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/biggueego.bmp
Operational strategist of the Dark Force Army and a counselor of Dark Force. He is highly respected by Mensouma and Undata for his skills, but is not a member of Dark Force. Does not have a good relationship with Sunny Day and Funny Face.

    Undata
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/undata.bmp
One of Dark Force's right hand commanders, pairing armour that can repel tank fire with built-in firepower. He leads Dark Force's mechanical units.

    Mensouma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mensoma.bmp
One of the right hand commanders of Dark Force, excelling in intelligence and espionage and commands the bioroid units. Can change his body into a gelatin state to consume his foes, and can use his cells to take over machines.
  • Co-Dragons: Shares this place of honour with Undata.
  • The Dragon: One of Dark Force's right hands.
  • Make My Monster Grow: For his final confrontation.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Dish washing soap. He is practically invincible in his first combat encounter until Sharkungo, who has encountered him previously, comes to the rescue with a box of detergent. This trick only works once, as Mensouma spends the rest of the game trying to overcome this weakness.
  • Recurring Boss: Not so much early on when he's focusing on overcoming his soap weakness, but appears with greater frequency in the latter half of the game.

    Dark Force
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darkforce.bmp
The Big Bad. The man behind the Dark Force Army who has already conquered the Shakun Star and has his sights set on the Earth.
  • Big Bad: It's his name on the army.
  • Evil Laugh: Dark Force punctuates almost every appearance with his trademark laugh.
  • Galactic Conqueror: Series Big Bad Dark Force. In backstory, he has already conquered numerous planets. The Shakun Star falls during the course of Star Resistance, and his eyes are now set for the Earth.
  • Gravity Is Purple: Befitting his ability to increase the gravity around him, Dark Force's all-black colour scheme is punctuated with purple.
  • Gravity Master: Dark Force himself is able to increase the gravity around him, making it impossible to fight until a way can be found to counteract the gravity effect.
  • Keystone Army: Dark Force isn't just the commander of his personal Alien Invasion force, he's also the source of dark energy that enhances and fuels his entire military. With his defeat, it all crumbles.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: After tormenting the universe in all of this game and its prequel, finally defeating Dark Force projects a shared memory to everyone in the room, presenting Dark Force's backstory as an honourable defender of his home planet, who knew the dangers of dark energy but eventually becoming its host after a major defeat. It is this dark energy that used him to wreck cosmic destruction, now expelled after his boss fight. After, with his fleet crumbling around him, the player characters treat him like an injured old man to remove from the battlefield, rather than as a vanquished enemy.
  • Technologically Advanced Foe: Beneath him and his lieutenants are armies of robotic and bioroid units and whole fleets of attack saucers. The Earth's technology isn't any more remarkable than it is in real life, though we have the advantage of Toku heroes, magic users, and the like. Despite the heroes' best efforts, the Earth falls under Dark Force's invasion from the moment it begins.

    Deep Mind
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/face_090.bmp
True final boss of the game. The corrupting Dark Power that created Dark Force and influenced his ambitions.
  • Guide Dang It!: In-game, episodes give only basic victory conditions. To reach true end and fight Deep Mind, you need to be aware of the mechanic that rewards you progress points for specific heroic actions, most often using specific heroes to defeat their rivals with a normal attack, and avoiding the bad end, usually via taking too many turns in episodes or losing units in battle. It is nearly impossible to hit all these points without consulting a guide, though one is included among the game files.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Or at least the sentient malevolent cosmic energy behind the man. It was this corrupting energy that had transformed the man who would become Dark Force and sent him on his interstellar conquests to collect magical items and beings from all across the galaxy.
  • True Final Boss: Only fought if you've maximized your heroic feats throughout the game. Astral Gate delays the party after Dark Force's defeat, allowing the Dark Power to absorb more magic energy and possess Emerald, and only then sending you into its pocket dimension to fight it. Otherwise, Astral Gate hides it within his gate, and it remains unfought.
