Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.

Ask the Tropers:
openHow do you submit video examples?
I've been wondering how to do this for quite a while. Is there a page where you do it? Do you have to convert the videos to a specific format? Are there rules for submitting them? Like what is the case here?
Btw, I see whoever posts them every 2-3 days really loves Big City Greens and Central Park, those two I think have more video examples than any other media on this site lol. Not saying this is bad or anything (I like them too), I just had to get that off my chest.
openOverzealous dewicking from TRS?
On Cut Song, a link to Voice Types was removed. I thought it was acceptable for examples of actual tropes to refer to Useful Notes pages, and even figures into the criteria for allowing such pages to exist on this wiki at all. "We cut wicks since it's no longer a trope" was probably badly phrased.
openIs this allowed? Live Action TV
YMMV.Canadas Worst Driver has an example for The Scrappy that is in its own folder as, per the example's text, the contestant it was discussing was hated enough that a folder was deemed necessary for organization. The text justifying this decision is a bit poorly worded, and I'm not seeing any discussions related to this on the Discussion page.
Is this allowed? The folder in question is the only one on the page, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. (Apologies in advance if this is an acceptable practice, I'm not super active when it comes to editing.)
openCan I please have my account suspended/banned?
Yes, sorry that this is the wrong section, but I didn't know where to turn, at all.
Been going through a lot personally lately, haven't broken the rules since my return, and well...
You know, I'd like to ask the mods something. I would appreciate it if one of you could, please, just ban/suspend my account, indefinitely this time.
I doubt I'll return. On the off chance I ever do, however slim it looks now, I would make the proper request in the proper place, and it wouldn't be in the near future. For now... there is no option to delete your account, so... please take me out in the closest possible way. It's nothing no one did, it's me. Always is.
Just remove my editing privileges. That's all I need. Sorry for inconveniencing other tropers with legitimate questions. Actually, this could be grounds enough for the request, since this is severely off topic enough to possibly be natter.
So, yes, thanks for your time.
openTwo I Knew It in Devil May Cry 5 Videogame
So I was browsing at Devil May Cry 5 page and I find two I Knew It!. One is from trivia page and one is from YMMV. The differences is that the details only. So should I remove I Knew It! from YMMV since this trope is a trivia trope?
Edited by BubblepigopenCollege series work page
If I properly followed the guidelines to avoid Auto-Erotic Troping and only included information accessible to the public in one way or another, would I be allowed to make a page for a webseries done by my college that was publicly published online and is accessible to anybody?
openWhat's with those exclamation marks before character names?
At first I thought it's just a fandom/genre-specific nicknaming theme, but I've been coming across a lot of those <Adjective>!<Character Name> stuff. What are those? Are there guidelines for making them work on this wiki? Or are they even allowed here?
Just wondering because IIRC, they have been somehow inconsistent in the past when talking about a character's alternate versions. For example on the Devil May Cry pages, there were "Classic!Dante" (for the main continuity) and "DmC!Dante" or "Reboot!Dante" (for the reboot continuity). Now the reboot had two variants referring to just the same character.
I think I read something about them on an Administriva page, I seem to have forgotten what they are called, and would've liked to use that as an Edit Reason.
open Here we go again...
Someone restored the Second Scottish Draft again.
Mods, please do something.
EDIT: It's still nuked, but people just commented on it asking what the hell happened. It still showed on the TLP activity on the main page. Could this draft be locked?
Edited by ccorbopenCopying Wikipedia summaries
Recap.Sex Education S 1 E 1 Episode 1 was recently made. The episode summery was directly copied, as admitted in the article, "(From Wikipedia)".
My impression is that part should be cut but I'm double checking.
openName of writers?
Hi, I'm reading through this article and really like it, there's a few quotes I'd like to use for my essay: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WrestlingPsychology#:~:text=No%2C%20they're%20talking%20about,audience%20to%20suspend%20their%20disbelief.
I need a name and date it was written though, can someone tell my who wrote it and when please? Or point me to where I can find it please :)
openWork with no tropes found Film
Madras Cafe had no tropes listed when I stumbled upon it via Wiki Walk. I've added one from the trope I found it from but it needs more, I've not seen it myself so I'm in no position to add insight on it, and I don't know where else to bring this up (Needs More Wicks seems to be cases of trope pages needing listing, not works).
openDrinking Game Live Action TV
I want to make a Drinking Game page for the sports competition show American Ninja Warrior... is there a way to do it?
Edited by AlexTropesFisheropen Unilateral cleanup reversion on Characters.Cyberpunk 2077
Troper FSU Bulldogs unilaterally reverted an extensive cleanup effort by Silverblade 2 on Characters.Cyberpunk 2077, with a curt edit reason. This is not the first such problem on Cyberpunk 2077 and its subpages.
My first inclination was to call for a page revert and lock, but on the advice of moderator SeptimusHeap, I've brought the matter here instead.
openBadly-written recap pages for Star Trek?
So, the Recap pages for Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise are both messes, full of bashing, ZCE's, and one-sentence "recaps".
openHandling spoilers Film
So... this happend and I have no clue what to even reply. The notion "X years passed, no longer requires spoiler" is kind of silly, especially since it's, as mentioned by the other troper, not even 20 years.
So what now?
openStillborn Franchise and valid source?
From Stillborn Franchise:
- My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) was meant to have a sequel, and possibly keep the momentum of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic going on into the 2020's. However, a combination of critics deriding the film as too sugary sweet, being a 2D animated film long after CGI became the norm, and being released at a time where the show's Periphery Demographic of Bronies have left the series in favor of more boundary pushing shows like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe, the film performed below Lionsgate and Hasbro's expectations despite making back its six-million dollar budget 10 times at the box office note Similar to how Warner Bros. felt after Teen Titans Go! To the Movies' box office performance a year later.. The sequel was then repurposed into a TV special as Hasbro then cut ties with Lionsgate and has since moved on to Creator/Paramount for a C Gi Continuity Reboot for the My Little Pony franchise as the main show ended in 2019.
It was determined via Word of God and leaks Friendship is Magic was set to end in 2019 before The Movie could influence. I'm not sure if The Movie was separate enough to count given it directly tied into the next season of FIM.
The only confirmation for the sequel being made into the TV special were these. I asked awhile back if they were legit and they said yes but it was deleted elsewhere and the MLP wiki has no acknowledgment of this. I looked up this "Sebastian Cordova" but couldn't find them in the works staff or credits, (could be a nickname), but show staff had liked the tweets which seems unlikely if not legit. Are they valid/adequate source? This seems too speculative otherwise.
If this is legit, would Franchise Killer fit better as it wasn't a spinoff and, while it didn't end the show caused them to not continue G4 which the show was part of in lieu of rebooting?
openUsing a certain trope in a YMMV
So, the ymmv portion of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, I wanted to include "What Does She See In Him" when talking about the relationship between Rey's grandmother and Emperor Palpatine, who is Rey's grandfather I ask this because I wanted to make sure if it was an appropriate entry and after all, I can tell fans have probably thought about said trope when talking about the supposed relationship and given the appearance changes of Palpatine in the first two trilogy series.
open There's a problem with my messages wall.
I tried getting to the important thing, but it won't let me in because it says this:
Your permissions for this area have been suspended. Please visit this page for more details.
I can't get to that message now. I won't get in there because I'm still suspended.

Kelekona left a review for Protectors of the Plot Continuum, which is basically them importing personal drama from their interactions with the authors and not actually reviewing the work itself.
I flagged the review for drama importation, and Very Melon left a couple comments criticizing the review for that. Kelekona then decided to make a YMMV page for them, accusing them of being "pro-bullying". So now, this has descended into personal attacks against other users on the site.
