Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Cut Forrester; I was wondering about him myself, since I heard there were cannibals in the second game.

Previously getting their hands on Benny and Erica's son Eric, they have tortured the boy to drain him of his magic, and try to use him as a living, magical bomb to wipe out the city of their plans fail. Seemingly destroyed, one Ringmaster lives on through Ethan; in the sequel, he uses a vampire killing disease to manipulate the vampire council into turning Whitechapel's citizens en masse; tricks Ethan into opening Pandora's Box to cause tears in reality, and tries to leave Ethan and Eric in eternal darkness. When the three Ringmaster's are resurrected, they reveal their goals to wipe out all reality and recreate it in their own image.

Should that Fanfic!Deathstroke go under Comics (Batman), Western Animation (Young Justice), crossovers, or something else?

You know what I am going to reclaim Power Rangers Beast Morphers. I'm reasonably sure I could just watch the show on the nick app.

[up][up][up][up] I'm a bit unsure about that because that fanfic doesn't belong to any particular continuity and the only reason why it's listed under Young Justice is because (according to the author) he was unable to include all of the character tags under either Batman (comics) or Nightwing (comics) and thus had to settle with the Young Justice tag, even though he calls it a Batman/Bat Family fanfic. Therefore, I think it should be listed under Bataman (comics).

Agree with Dr that we should probably put the version of Deathstroke under Fanfic!Batman

I've found the first Mortal Kombat fanfic that's worth effort posting.

What's the Work?

Mortal Kombat Enemies of the Past is a Mortal Kombat fanfic by Shotokan, in which it takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat 3, where Shao Kahn has been defeated by Liu Kang twice. Furious, Shao Kahn launches another invasion of Earthrealm shortly afterwards, recognizing that their defenses are still weak at this point. In case this synopsis didn't tip you off...

Who is Shao Kahn and What Has He Done?

Shao Kahn is the dictator of Outworld, who seeks to expand his dominion by invading other realms by winning ten consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments against a specific realm. He's conquered dozens of realms, but the most notable one was Edenia, where he killed the ruling monarch, King Jerrod, and took his family, Queen Sindel and Princess Kitana, as his own. Simultaneously, he ordered the massacre of Edenian villages during his invasion, in which Rain's mother was the victim of one of said purges. Shao Kahn also took in those he viewed as useful to him, which included Rain's father and Rain himself, who became a general and assassin respectively. However, even Rain's father gets killed by Shao Kahn at some point, while Rain is unaware that Shao Kahn murdered his parents by influencing his mind to forget his Edenian past.

Shao Kahn then attempted to conquer Earthrealm, twice via Mortal Kombat tournmanent and once via direct invasion. However, Liu Kang and the other Earthrealm warriors repelled his forces each time and freed Edenia upon the third time. To conquer both Edenia and Earthrealm, Shao Kahn orders Rain to get Shang Tsung and Quan Chi for him, as he wants the two sorcerors to build an unstoppable army for him, which he'll use to conquer the two aforementioned realms. He also sent Rain and Reiko to spy on their enemies to ensure that their defenses are down and thus susceptible to invasion. Once Rain and Reiko report back to Shao Kahn and with his new army built, Shao Kahn rewards Shang Tsung and Quan Chi by giving them an opportunity to murder Liu Kang, their arch-nemesis. In addition to this order, Shao Kahn tells them to bring him Sindel and Kitana to him, which is accomplished first. When Shang Tsung and Quan Chi kill Liu Kang, they follow Shao Kahn's order to bring his corpse, in which Shao Kahn has the two revive Liu Kang as a mindless servant of his.

Additionally, Shao Kahn sends several extermination squads to Earthrealm to further demoralize its inhabitants and kill more people. One of the places that fell victim to these raids was the Wu Shi Temple, where all of the monks there are slaughtered and Kung Lao is the only survivor. He's also sent his extermination squads to wipe out whole cities, where many buildings are destroyed and tens of thousands of people are killed in the process. Simultaneously, Shao Kahn visits an imprisoned Sindel and Kitana, where he brags about how he killed Jerrod and gloats that he'll soon conquer both Earthrealm and Edenia.

When the Earthrealm warriors stage an attack on Shao Kahn's fortress, Shao Kahn, the two sorcerors, and Liu Kang fight them, in which Shao Kahn takes pleasure with murdering Raiden, his own brother in this continuity. During the fight, Rain begins to realize that he had been influenced by Shao Kahn and discovers his true backstory, so he turns on his former master, who tries to kill him as well for his treachery. To that end, Shao Kahn uses Shinnok's Amulet on him and later on Raiden when he tries to intervene. However, Raiden manages to use a stray lightning bolt to make Shao Kahn lose his grip on the amulet and then knocks him down to a pit of spikes, killing him.

Does He Have Any Mitigating Qualities or Freudian Excuse?

Zilch. He has no genuine care for either Kitana or Sindel, as he treats them more like objects to legitimize his rule than actual family. He's also got no Freudian Excuse and is really just a power-hungry tyrant.

Does He Have Meet the Heinousness Standard?

I'd say his massacre of villages, temples, and cities is enough to pass the heinousness standard. He's also mentioned to love tormenting his prisoners, which is the cherry on top of his crimes, even if it is off-screen.

Final Verdict

Sure to Shao.

I've created a new section at the CM actors page: CMs played by the same actor in different works

EDIT: Forgot Hamill as Trickster. So Hamill's the only actor there twice, while Megatron's the only CM there twice.

I'm curious how many characters have been played by multiple actors in the same work. I can only think of 2 off the top of my head, Arkhamverse Joker and Film Wesker (probably game Wesker as well).

Hope your prepared for an unforgettable luncheon
