[up] I believe this is false. See these links: https://www.tuxedounmasked.com/did-sailor-moon-director-kunihiko-ikuhara-hate-naoko-takeuchi/ https://www.reddit.com/r/sailormoon/comments/nqj7en/are_there_any_links_for_how_takeuchi_felt_about/ https://www.reddit.com/r/sailormoon/comments/vve8no/did_naoko_takeuchi_dislike_the_90s_anime/

"Ms. Takeuchi herself admits in her afterword in the manga version of The Lover of Princess Kaguya that the Sailor Moon R movie caused her untold amounts of stress due to how it deviated from her story, and even goes on to apologize for how much of a fuss she rose with people in order to make sure she was involved in the Sailor Moon S movie. Despite her apology, however, Ms. Takeuchi still mentions at the end that she’s sad that the anime doesn’t track closer to her original manga storyline, though she admits this is a byproduct of the fact that they’re both being created in real time."

From Characters.Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark 2019.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear whether or not the Pale Lady can clone herself, given that she appears at the end of every corridor Chuck tries to use, or if she's simply teleporting between the hallways. It's possible that she shows up wherever Chuck happens to be looking at the time, but there are a few instances where he's staring at the camera with the Pale Lady behind him, so no firm answer is given.

It's been a while since I've seen the film, but IIRC, isn't there at least one shot where Chuck is staring down two hallways and we see two Pale Ladies walking down them? And when she corners him, don't we actually see multiple Pale Ladies surrounding him? I remember it being an unambiguous example of Self-Duplication with at least one shot featuring more than one Pale Lady at a time, but I'm hoping someone else can confirm it.

You're correct, but more importantly "we don't know exactly what this character's superpowers are" is not really what Ambiguous Situation is for.

From PortingDisaster.Consoles:

  • Sega's GameCube to PS2 ports are notorious for being some of the worst ports on the platform:
    • Sonic Heroes has a much lower framerate than the Xbox, GCN, and PC versions, only running at 30 FPS (as opposed to 60 FPS on the others) as well as having lower resolution textures and lower poly character models in comparison to the other three versions. This would be an understandable compromise if not for the frequent slowdown. It also suffered longer loading times than Sonic 06. It's no wonder GameSpot and IGN gave the PS2 version the lowest score out of all three releases.note

I've heard reports saying the information in the note isn't true. If the reports are accurate, the note will have to be removed.

Paranoia Agent is widely considered to be using two Allegorical Characters for Japan's post-War attitude with Never My Fault and Kawaisa respectively. While it sounds very likely in retrospect, I kinda couldn't find if Satoshi Kon did say that and the series could be just a general Take That! on society. This would reflect if this take belongs to Trivia or YMMV.

Found this on the PeripheryDemographic.Western Animation page:

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a subversion. The idea was pitched to other networks before Nickelodeon picked it up. It was never exclusively meant for children in the beginning.

That's highly doubtful. The official art book states that the series came about when Nickelodeon was looking to develop a series containing "action and adventure" and "legends and lore" that could stand in the ring with the likes of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

I posted this to the Complete Monster cleanup thread, but I thought it was relevant here too.

From Mythology & Religion:

  • The Demiurge, or Yaldabaoth, is a take on the Old Testament God, used to explain the Problem of Evil. A malevolent false god, Yaldabaoth is the source of humanity's sinful nature and all the misery, who takes joy in human evil, so long as he's worshiped as the Top God. Yaldabaoth created the physical realm, and humanity, as debaucherous and mindless creatures, before the higher gods took pity on them and granted them knowledge and souls, thus giving access to the true spiritual world. The materialistic Yaldabaoth would prefer to manipulate the world in wickedness, keeping humanity in the dark of the spiritual world. This puts him in direct conflict with his mother Sophia, who in some versions was destroyed by her son, with her remnants becoming humanity's souls.

Don’t Yaldabaoth’s exact motives vary among different sects?

Peace is the only battle worth waging.

There's actually so little consistency between Gnostic texts that some scholars have argued for abandoning "Gnostic" as an academic category.

Let me simply summarize Williams’s findings briefly. Some texts trace a dualism back to the roots of all being, before Demiurges. Some describe Demiurges who are evil from the start and produce all later evil, although no information is given about whether or not they themselves derive from evil principles. Some talk about Demiurges who fell away from an original monistic perfection or who began as good but later revolted. Some demiurgic myths are not anti-cosmic but treat the cosmos as having a proper place in the greater scheme. In some, the devolution of the Demiurges is part of a providential divine plan aimed at an ultimate good. Some talk about Demiurges who are not evil but good, or who grow into goodness.

(That's from this paper, though I haven't read much deeper than that so I don't know much about the book that the excerpt is referring to. It's possible that not all of the demiurges being described would be considered Yaldabaoth.)

Discord got me started down a rabbit hole revolving a bit from The Boy Next Door

Artistic License – History: Noah presents Claire with a first edition of The Iliad. The "first edition" of Homer's epic poem dates back to roughly the 8th Century. B.C.

It turns out the whole...thing surrounded that book isn't as cut and dry as you would be led to believe. That specific version of the book does exist, and was printed in 1884, though it probably still wouldn't be a "first edition" in any sense of the word. Would that even count as the first printed English translation?

On Trivia.I Am Legend:

  • Focus Group Ending: The film massively changed the original ending, which was closer to the novella. In the original ending, Neville has a Heel Realization. This twist was averted in the new ending into a Heroic Sacrifice, basically the exact opposite of what the novel did and what the rest of the film was building up to. Several plot details hinting at the original ending remain in the film. It is also worth to note there have been three stages of the test screenings. First involved bunch of different groups, and those who liked the original ending were simply removed from the test pool. After reshoots and further test screening, anyone not enjoying the reshoots was removed and the final version was shown to the people that from the start wanted to see action-packed ending. It is unclear why the execs even bothered with all of this, rather than simply mandating reshoot of the ending and be done with it.

Can any of the bolded lines be verified? I've checked around online and I've seen nothing about the screenings being manipulated in this way. It's not out of the question, test screenings can work in odd ways, but it's a big claim to make for a film that's so infamous for having a Focus Group Ending.

[up] I certainly haven't heard the claim that the test screenings were manipulated before. Looks like that bit was added in October 2020 by Betoniarz without an edit reason/source. Perhaps it's better to remove if we can't verify the information.

Weddings in Japan:

Combine with the relative simplicity and substantially lower cost of a Western wedding (and that's saying something) compared to a traditional Shinto or Buddhist one

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinto_wedding

Due to the high cost of new kimono, and the particularly high cost of brand-new formal kimono, a bride may only hire out the ensemble for the day, instead of purchasing it new, or may wear an ensemble passed down through the family or borrowed.

But what's expensive about a Buddhist wedding?

I saw this added to Trivia.Saints Row 2022 a bit ago on What Could Have Been.

  • According to an anonymous developer who worked on the game that was interviewd by ShortFatOtaku the feature that allowed players to rob stores from previous Saints Row games, alongside XP and Money drops from killing NPC's was programmed into the game, but they were removed beacuse the DEI (Diversity, equity, and inclusion) group that was overseen the game's development requested the features to be removed beacuse they didn't want to upset BLM or encourage killing innocent pedestrians.

Ignoring the poor grammar, I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the ROCEJ thread because it seems very politically charged. Does anyone have a better understanding of this entry?

[up] That was clearly added over the recent Sweet Baby controversy, with debates spreading over what they did or didn't do in the development of various games they're credited as consultants for. Given the interviewer is a notorious pro-GGer it's clear what agenda they're trying to push, so while there might be some miniscule bit of truth to it, I'd be weary of just repeating it as-is. (Also you can kill pedestrians in the game anyway)

  • Lysithea only has explicitly romantic endings with men in Three Houses but, in the Japanese version of the game, she calls Leonie her perfect husband in one of their support conversations. Moreover, in Three Hopes she gets very flustered and noticeably blushes when she gets a compliment from female Shez during one of their support conversations.

I looked it up whether this was the case and I couldn't find anything about. The closest I could was a Reddit post that shipped the two. So I want to know if this info is valid.

[up][up]AFAIK, G1 Transformers has done a lot of stuff separate from the rest of the series without any issues. And while the Last Knight didn’t do well, it still made $600 million dollars. Regardles of how the movie was awful and restarted the series in the end, it showed that Transformers overall is still successful. Dropping the license was probably just Activision moving on (they are a notoriously scummy company) to new IPs after being merged with Blizzard Entertainment.

About Yaldabaoth, there are so many portrayals that he's best treated as a concept across sects than a consistent character. Some versions of him can be classed as Complete Monster, but the entry would have to cite which Gnostic text it is based off of. Failing that it needs to be removed.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

Maybe I'm missing something considering I have never heard of Numberblocks, but I very doubt it has "taken over" Fandom and Youtube. No idea about the programming website, but I'm skeptical as well.
