Review/Let's Play YMMV Tropes

There are YMMV pages for either internet reviewers or Let's Players that tend to have trouble regarding In-Universe YMMV tropes. A lot of them operate under the idea that since the trope is YMMV, it goes on the YMMV even when said trope is the In-Universe opinion or viewpoint of the reviewer or Let's Players. I'm hoping that this thread will be able to address the issue and work to fix the problem.

This might belong in Short-Term Projects, not here.

I do agree that many review/let's play YMMV subpages need a cleanup however.

Well, I guess it can stay here for now at least, but if it becomes an issue, I'll have this thread moved to short-term.

Anyway, I'll work on cleaning up the rest of the Some Call Me Johnny YMMV, any other reviewers/Let's Payers that should be brought to this thread's attention?

EDIT: Alright, finished cleaning that up. I noticed afterwards that Zero Punctuation has an entire page for Pet Peeve tropes. I'm guessing that one is fine since it's not a YMMV page and there are so many that it would probably need it's own page anyway.

The Pop Arena's YMMV page is pretty bad about this.

Sonic Dissected's YMMV page has a lot this. Apart from the Big-Lipped Alligator Moment and Acceptable Targets examples.

YMMV.Game Grumps also has some in-universe examples spread throughout the page, though it's not an overwhelming amount.

So, I checked out the The Pop Arena page, and it looks like almost every YMMV trope is an in-universe trope. Probably not all of them, but it sure looks like it.

Now, on the YMMV for Super Gaming Bros., there are some tropes that are In-Universe examples like, It's Easy, So It Sucks!, a few Ending Fatigue ones, and a few others I saw. Should probably be looked into.

I checked the YMMV page, and it includes several In-Universe examples of YMMV such as So Bad, It's Good and some of the Ending Fatigue examples.

Alright, I think I was able to fix the SGB pages. Anyone else know of some that share these problems?

YMMV.The Nostalgia Critic has some other issues I'm addressing through another thread, but I think there are some in-universe tropes there too, or at least on the subpages like NightmareFuel.The Nostalgia Critic.

The giant icons directing people to put the tropes in YMMV is probably not helping. Maybe submit a request to disable them on Let's Play namespaces?

That wouldn't help with review videos lumped in the Web Video namespace though. I think the blanked-out notes on the top reminding people to list them on the main page if in-universe is at least a good start, and you can always preface the trope with [invoked] to get rid of those icons.

Ok, I know I started this thread for LPs and reviews, but can we find a way to rename it to include other forms of Web media that revolve around either reviewing or analyzing other media? The YMMV for Overly Sarcastic Productions has some examples that should go on the main page since they're In-Universe reactions from Red and Blue, and I get the feeling that this one isn't the only one.

Also there are trivia items that should go on main pages.

Okay, so I found this tropes page for a blog called Limyaael's Fantasy Rants, and I checked the YMMV. Almost every single YMMV trope on the YMMV page is a reflection of her personal opinions on certain works, not her audience's opinions on her blog or rants.

Can we get started on transferring them to the main page?

Alright here are some entries from WebVideo.Vinesauce:

• The Scrappy:
  • BonziBUDDY is this to Joel. Fans think a bit differently.
  • Vinny vehemently despises Malo. Naturally, like with BonziBUDDY and Joel, the fans tend to deliberately put Malo in art to annoy Vinny, often by drawing other characters (both from Zelda and other series) with his face, such as one piece that makes a play on words by drawing the similarly named Mallow from Pokémon Sun and Moon with Malo's face.
    • Vinny also really hates Bunji the Frog from the Gigglebone Gang edutainment games; finding his voice, mannerisms, and gluttony very annoying and creepy. This resulted in the character's appearance in a few fan games like a Half-Life mod simply titled Kill the Frog and the Vinesauce Minecraft mod had a dream sequence where the player is given a gun and can shoot swarms of attacking Bunji's.
  • GeePM personally despises Minions and Seth Rogen movies, (e.g., Sausage Party).
• Sequel Difficulty Drop: Vinny mentioned the fact that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of the easier Zelda games when streaming the HD version, so he chose to play the HD version on Hero Mode right off the bat because it doesn't need to be unlocked (in contrast to how it was only possible for him to stream Ocarina of Time 3D's Master Quest mode without streaming the standard mode because he had previously played the standard mode offscreen).

Okay I got some examples from WebVideo.Real Time Fandub:

• Critical Research Failure: Played for Laughs in the Sonic 06 dub, where most of the cast either don't know what Fortnite is or feign ignorance for the sake of the joke. Rouge repeatedly calls the vape dildo that Mephiles is trapped in a "Fortnite update amiibo", and later makes reference to her "Fortnite save files" all being gone. The only location referenced is Tilted Towers, which in this dub seems to be a real place in the post-apocalyptic future, and Mephiles mentions having a private Fortnite server, which he bans Omega from playing on.
• Take That, Scrappy!: Subverted; Amy has (extremely) unkind words for Silver, but since in this version Silver is a sweet-natured, socially-awkward Woobie who immediately guesses that he probably deserves it, Amy ends up feeling bad and tries to change the topic to "[talking] about, like... future?"
• Unfortunate Implications:
  • Discussed when Mz. Ruby first appears. Sly refers to her being a stereotypical wielder of Hollywood Voodoo as "mildly racist."
  • Conversed during her boss battle. She and Sly debate the problematic aspects of Pocahontas.

Okay, I brought this up already before, but it seemed to go unanswered, so I'll bring it up again. I checked the YMMV page for Limyaael's Fantasy Rants and saw that almost every single trope on that page is the In-Universe opinion of Limyaael, not the out of universe opinion of the audience. I think these pages need to be worked on as soon as possible.

If that's the case, just move those examples off and if there's nothing left, cut the YMMV page.
