Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

OK then, thanks.
- Manic Pixie Ill Girl — Manic Pixie Dream Girl + Ill Girl + Your Days Are Numbered + Like You Were Dying; though the OP tries to justify it that the girl becomes Manic Pixie because of her illness; it's not supposed to be a mere combination of the two tropes and it has a narrative purpose; however, I still propose to discard it
Edited by XFllo on May 23rd 2019 at 8:32:05 PM
That just sounds like Like You Were Dying but with a specific disposition.
- Bathroom Envy: I bombed and nuked this for being Not a Trope.
- Naked stealth: Yes, We DO Have This One — Naked People Trapped Outside, bombed.
- Darcy letter — Dark and Troubled Past of Byronic Hero gets revealed (I think we have this covered — usually in a narrative, secrets get revealed).
- Monkeysphere: interesting bit of trivia, but I don't think it's tropeworthy/tropeable
- Interracial Relationship (New Version): Is this a trope?
- Rumors Ruin Reputation: Yes, We DO Have This One — Malicious Slander; In-Universe examples of Never Live It Down (aka One Mistake Endless Mockery); Bluff Worked Too Well

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Discarded Rumors Ruin Reputation for the reasons posted.
Bombed Monkeysphere for being trivial. I don't understand where it's trying to go.
Bombed Darcy Letter for being several tropes (+ Exposition) condensed into something that's, IMO, too specific to trope.
Interracial Relationship looks like it could be a trope, but I wonder how much so if it's treated as chairs by the story/characters.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!- AT: Abbreviation Title: Yes, We DO Have This One — Initialism Title. Have the examples in the draft been assimilated into the already-existing trope yet?
- Gas-Powered Jacuzzi: This is The Same, but More Specific to Underwater Fart Gag, efforts to make it a sub-trope have fizzled, and I've given up on the draft.
- Codified Valediction has already been assimilated into Fictional Greetings and Farewells.
- I gave Firearm Brand PI (already on the list) a bombs-away bump and tossed in my own bomb. It's redundant with NamesToRunAwayFrom.Weapons
- Bathroom Break First is an intended Sub-Trope of Potty Emergency. Can it stand as its own separate sub-trope, or is it The Same, but More Specific?

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Someone nuked Forbidden Trope despite my plans to discuss it further.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! The user responsible isn't part of this project and likely didn't notice us discussing it, so I've restored the draft and added a note.
I see potential in Forbidden Trope too.
- Are you out of your mind?: Since we already have the trope You're Insane!, I agree with Tabs, the title and scope could in theory be retooled to be about the action of slamming someone up against the wall. More specifically, I'd like to see someone (maybe me if I ever have the time and gung-ho) replace this draft with a fresh draft titled "Slammed Against The Wall" or something. For now, I think I'll put it in the "mothball" folder?
- Doesn't Like Talking About Their Past: Yes, We DO Have This One — They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason
- The Gun Show Pose: This is a magnet for zero context examples. Is there anything not already covered by Pec Flex; Flexing Those Non-Biceps; Fat Flex; and the aforementioned Bicep Kiss and Bicep-Polishing Gesture?
- Indispensable Evil: How is this related to: Balance Between Good and Evil; Evil Power Vacuum; Someone Has to Do It; and You Kill It, You Bought It?
- Nobody Cares About the Outfit: Given what Tabs had to say about this, I'm gonna stick it in the "mothball" folder.
- Taking The Wrong Things Personally: Tabs says We Have This... I Swear... and described Mad at a Dream.
Found this:
- Unfortunate Associations: The description is clearly unfinished, no examples exist, and it looks redundant with Values Dissonance and Unfortunate Implications.
Kinda reminds me of Harsher in Hindsight, actually.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢I reviewed one of Crossover-Enthusiast's comments, and put the majority of drafts listed there in the "mothball" folder for being hypothetically fixable. But I have a question about Heterogeneity Is Evil with its "really long description, no examples in the drafts, a few in the comments." Those problems are hypothetically fixable, right? I've temporarily listed it in the "up for discussion" folder, should it be moved to the "mothball" folder?

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Oh yeah, I forgot about that!
I think it is workable, it just needs love. Like a lot of it. And a hacksaw the description.

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢I'll transfer it to the mothball folder then.
Meanwhile, I also found This Won't Come in Handy: Xfllo thinks that it's covered by Red Herring. Or it can be a subverted trope to It May Help You on Your Quest, Some Day This Will Come In Handy or other Chekhov's Gun tropes. When I tossed in my bomb, I noticed that the specific "Iron Man 2" example with the "bunker buster" not living up to its explosive hype reminds me of The Worf Barrage.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Worf Barrage in that case, too. Along with Informed Attribute, I've seen overlap in Red Herring and Fauxshadowing on other pages already, and we do not need another "this seems important, turns out it isn't" trope added to the mix.
- Tabs said that the draft 95% 3/4 was People Sit on Chairs, but I disagree, this looks more like a Sub-Trope of Lazy Artist. That being said, it's still a magnet for zero context examples. How does it relate to Cheated Angle?
- Random Inquiring Young Mind: Is this Staring Kid or a variant of Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears or what?
- Maybe I'm just being dense, but I'm confused about Universal Pet Names: Is this I Was Named "My Name" or Animal Naming Conventions?
Honestly, I could just take this to the draft itself. But until we decide that this thread is no longer needed...
Isolated Jerkass Moment looks like a duplicate of Jerkass Ball.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! For the third draft, I think it's a mix of both. It muddies distinction and I think will be a problematic trope if ever launched.
Look what I found: Administrivia.YKTTW Workstation List. I've copypasted the drafts listed in the "mothball" folder on Sandbox.Trope Launch Pad Discard Project to the "needs a sponsor" heading on the workstation page.
- Crime & Cars: What do we do with an abandoned work page?

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight. It's a stub with no tropes, and sponsor has not been on the wiki for over a year, so... bomb and discard?
It has already three bombs, a poor description with no example at all, and some people pointing out it is already sufficently covered within Weapon Stomp. Would you say it has to be definitely discharged, or it could actually work after a serious clean-up?
If the purpose of the two is the same and the only difference between the tropes is whether there's a costume event or not, I'm meeehhh on a split.
