Fixing lewdness issues

Go To

This thread is for cleaning up pages that violate the No Lewdness, No Prudishness policy.

Do not use this thread for reporting pages that need to be cut for violating The Content Policy. Report pages that appear too lewd or gushy to have on the wiki using the "Report Page" button on the sidebar, with the checkbox saying "The page may violate the Content Policy" checked. That will create a thread on the Content Violation Discussions subforum. The thread will be opened by a mod if the report is valid, and if it's deemed necessary, the page will be cleaned according to the Content Policy. (The list of pages that were deemed problematic can be found on The Content Policy's page.)

No Lewdness:

"Lewdness" is more than just being about something sexual or potentially sexual. Here are some signs of lewd writing:

  1. Personal opinions on hotness. Examples should stand on their own without the introduction of YMMV material. Adding your own thoughts and feelings on an example is an opinion, same as calling an example good or bad. Don't do it. Don't try and extend your feelings to a larger group of fans either, e.g. "...and fangirls everywhere rejoiced". You're not fooling anyone.
  2. Overly detailed examples. The example doesn't need to be an exact sensory account of the event. Too much of that and you end up sounding like you're writing porn. When in doubt, drop a few adjectives.
  3. Unrelated fanservice mentions. If the hot bits aren't related to the example, they don't belong in the example.
  4. Pornographic writing. If you're writing porn, it should be somewhere other than the wiki. Keep it Family Friendly.
  5. Titillation links. Tell, don't show. We don't need screen shots to illustrate NSFW fanservice. If a reader is really curious, they can go look it up on Google. (See also Weblinks Are Not Examples.)
  6. Pedo gushing. We don't need to describe children sexually. This should be cut immediately. We're not interested in hosting pedophilia fantasies. Period. If a work contains children having sex, even if portrayed negatively, report it as a potential violation of The Content Policy using the "Report Page" button in the sidebar.
  7. Talking about actors instead of characters. An actor is not the character they play. When you're writing an example about a work, refer to the character, not the actor. This applies to non-sexual references, but too often it's tropers writing about how they find certain actors hot. That doesn't fit in character examples.
  8. Thinking a page with a Not Safe for Work subject is license to be lewd. Even when we discuss porn, we are about just stating the facts.
  9. Fanfic Recs for underage sex. We will not host any recommendation for fics that have explicit sex involving people apparently or actually younger than 16. Period. We categorically do not recommend fics with sex in which at least one participant:
This applies even if all parties are underage.

No Prudishness:

  1. Don't cutlist or gut pages just because they're about sexual topics. Sex exists. It's used in media a lot. You'll just need to cope with that fact. Relationships, fanservice, and sexual activity all fall into their own tropes as a result.
  2. Don't be a Bluenose Bowdlerizer. We're not looking to censor all sex off the wiki. If the sex and sexuality is an honest part of the work and relevant to the example, it belongs there.
  3. The wiki is not rated G. We aren't sanitizing the wiki for small children. Sex and sexuality are part of media and we aren't going to ignore them. This wiki is Family Friendly, not Unsupervised Small Child Friendly. This isn't an excuse to make work pages dirtier than the work itself, as the above No Lewdness section makes clear, but neither is it an excuse to make those pages cleaner than the work itself.

Yeah, the Western animation that attracts the most lewd gushing tends to be not the Animated Shock Comedy, but the children's shows that tropers get a kick out of "corrupting." I can think of three different entries from The Loud House I've seen that paid way too much attention to a tween girl's breasts or underwear.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Most of them have since been cut, but I can list a few instances I remember:

So it may not all be lewd gushing, per se, but it does feel like a lot of people are paying too much attention to breasts and panties on this show. And knowing this fandom...it checks out.

On KnightOfCerebus.Comic Books

  • Willy Pete in Empowered gruesomely killed a bunch of people by literally raping them to death (which is all too easy for him to do, as he is a fire elemental who cannot shut off the powers that make his body superhot) in his very first appearance. Note that we're talking about a comic book that was almost purely comedic up until this moment.
    • Since he is a fire elemental, his raping them to death wasn't done in any of the normal ways, because the meat burned away too quickly. So he'd use an eye socket, since the skull would hold the pressure better. More durable sorts he tended to cannibalize (occasionally as they watched), since he couldn't eat normal food because it burned up in the same way; superhero meat would resist longer and be perfectly cooked by the time he could eat it.

Safe to remove the whole eye-socket detail in the second-level bullet? I'd normally assume so, since just how the character rapes people to death doesn't seem to be strictly necessary...but that particular detail shows up several times on Empowered's character page too, and I'm not sure whether it would be too much to scrub all mention of what seems to be, well, a fairly major character trait (or at least a defining one).

     The examples in question
  • Depraved Bisexual: He rapes people to death while burning thousands of degree Celsius hot. His victims' gender doesn't actually matter — anyone unlucky enough to get caught is fair game. Oh, and he prefers to rape them through the eye socket because the skull is one of the few parts of the body that isn't incinerated too quickly.
  • Eye Scream: His signature. He likes to skull-fuck people to death.
  • Your Head A-Splode: Even though a person's skull can survive his loving for a few seconds, it's not long before the brain turns into superheated gas, at which... well.

[up] Dear goodness! Cut the second sub-bullet, re-write the Eye Scream example into something cleaner.

Honestly, that's so exaggeratedly gruesome that I kinda do think the details help emphasize how jarringly dissonant this guy is for what (going by the rest of this site) had previously been a light-hearted fanservice series. Certainly the example doesn't seem to be written in a tone that suggests anything but disgust.

Agreed, that does seem like a detail needed to convey just how violent the actual content is.

Sounds like a really bad case of Cerebus Syndrome.

Alright, I restored the sub-bullet (after cutting it prematurely). Not sure if the Eye Scream example on the character page should still be rewritten, though, and if so, how.

I'm not great at figuring out where we draw the line with inherently fanservice-y tropes, but am I correct in thinking that these examples on Panty Fighter go too far?

  • X-Blades, which is basically an attempt to copy Devil May Cry, except the protagonist, Ayumi, is a girl wearing only a bra and a thong. The little of the thong's fabric which covers Ayumi's underparts is stretched tightly over her crotch, clearly accentuating the shape of her labia against the cloth.
  • The female characters of Samurai Shodown frequently expose their panties when they are killed. Add in the fact that in Samurai Shodown Sen, the girls usually die with their legs spread wide apart and/or propped up.
    • Mina Majikina is a prime example, as she exposes the panties she is wearing when she does nearly anything, and especially when she dies, where her body falls through the air with her panty-clad crotch and buttocks facing the screen.
    • Suzu from Samurai Shodown Sen also almost always exposes her panties when she is killed, given that some of her death animations involve her spasming with her thighs spread apart, and her body usually lies down with her legs wide open. Even when beheaded, her body staggers backward several steps before collapsing on her back with her legs propped up and spread.
  • Street Fighter:

[up] My goodness. The descriptions sound too focused on the physical qualities and garment of the female characters. I suggest references to the female undergarments be deleted immediately and the entries re-written.

Jesus Christ. Does the history go back far enough to see who added those, erm, writeups? Because that's egregious enough to possibly need a check-in with the mods.

I would also argue those examples are misuse since Panty Fighter seems to be about fighting games/fighting series that revolve around the fanservice aspect, as opposed to a having a few fanservice characters. In other words the fanservice is the point rather than a byproduct. That would probably prompt removal of a few other entries on the page.

Video Games has these:

    Examples
  • Donkey Kong Country: These are borderline zoophilia
    • Candy Kong, the most anthropomorphic of the Kongs fits her bikini top pretty good. Even for an ape.
    • Post-Plot-Relevant Age-Up Tiny Kong is tall and curvy. It's especially noticeable when compared to her older sister Dixie, who is a rather normal looking chimp.
  • Dragon Age II:
    • We have Isabela, who got an appearance makeover from the first game. She's got a Pirate Girl getup, bouncy H-cups, a foot of cleavage, dark swarthy skin, and wears no pants (but a thong), and also has thigh-high boots. She's also, shall we say... very open and famous for her sexual prowess.
    • And female Hawke herself even has a touch of this, not from her outfits, but from the way she moves those hips when running about. It's a surprise she doesn't throw out her back! Interestingly, all the female characters have the same run, so whatever your taste, you can admire Hawke/Isabela/Merrill/Aveline/Bethany/Tallis shaking Dat Ass.
  • Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King: Jessica Albert embodies this trope. She wears a dress that leaves her shoulders and half of her breasts on display, bounces with the least provocation, and even has access to a special skill set called "Sex Appeal". She is also the only other of the four playable characters with alternate costumes (except the Hero, who has one), all of which imply some type of fetish, such as the ever-popular Magic Bikini, the Dangerous Bustier, the Dancer's Dress, the Divine Bustier, and the Bunny Suit (you heard me). She has a weapon called the Lady's Thong for god's sake! At one point in an optional party conversation, she actually asks the rest of the party if her default dress is a little impractical. After a brief pause, they assure her that, no, of course it isn't.
  • Endless Frontier (Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier): Excellen's expy Kaguya Nanbu: this girl's just about as Moe as she can get, enormous chest, and Stripperiffic clothes. Said clothes are so tight, she's called the "Dairy Cow Princess". Did we mention she also has her own boing yoing yoing? Though Kaguya is the reigning queen, pretty much EVERY female character in Endless Frontier would be the Ms. Fanservice if deposited into another setting.
  • Cloud of Darkness has the body of a model with large breasts, long legs and wide hips, and wears nothing but Body Paint and a cape—they cover up her naughty bits, but not much else. Stripperiffic would be putting it lightly. She's also got a sexy voice, silver hair, and tentacles. <= What?
  • The King of Fighters: Mai Shiranui is known for two things and they're always on full display because of how skimpy her outfit is.
    • Made moreso in the anime adaptations of Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, where the camera repeatedly focuses on her boobs. During which, there are several noticeable nipple slips due to the skimpiness of her outfit, as opposed to the size of her melons and how much they jiggle. There's even a close-up of Jubei Yamada grabbing a handful and giving 'em a good squeeze.
    • You'll also see frequent crotch shots because she wears a loincloth. During her victory pose, she turns her back to the camera and lifts her loincloth out of the way, proudly displaying her thong and ass cheeks.
  • EVA, in all her stripperiffic glory. This line from a webcomic actually summarizes her well: "Hey, look. I have boobs~ <3"
  • Metroid has the one and only Samus Aran. A gorgeous well-endowed blonde who often doesn't mind taking off the suit for a breeze once in a while. Later on she wears the form fitting Zero Suit way more often, which gets plenty of ass shots. Metroid: Other M and the Super Smash Bros. games took her Samus’s sex appeal Up To Eleven and beyond.
  • Ninja Gaiden: Rachel from the modern games. She has a rack that would make Pam Anderson jealous and dresses in leather fetish gear. Even more blatant in Ninja Gaiden Sigma, where she's a playable character. And players have the option of changing her hairstyle and color, an option which has no effect on gameplay whatsoever other than appealing to the player. Then there are sections with manual Jiggle Physics control.
    • The sequel also gave us Sonia, a voluptuous platinum-blonde in a very tight, revealing leather suit who at one point near the end of the game, is captured and forced to wear a slave gown which is less skimpy than her usual attire. Lampshaded by the Daedalus announcer who takes a moment out of relaying frantic messages through the ship to note that "she is hot" when Ryu invades the ship.
  • Roselle is the local queen. Her top exposes a dangerous amount of underboob, her bottom is a glorified pair of panties and she has torn thigh high boots. It's telling that the Japanese version actually toned down the amount of skin revealed. The Japanese version still managed to cover the decreased fanservice by assigning Chiaki Takahashi, the current seiyuu for Ms. Fanservice, to voice her. Among her portfolio? The aforementioned Litchi...
  • Cammy White. Her thong leotard combined with gratuitous opportunities to show off her ass, which is incredibly well-toned. In V Cammy's gone up a cup size or two in this game. (Their emphasis, not mine)
  • Venus, owner and bartender of the Goth club "Confessions" wears deliciously short shorts, fishnets and a ridiculously low-cut midriff-baring top, which shows her ample assets to full effect. To maximize tips, you see.

There are countless other potentially problematic examples, but these were the ones that bothered me the most.
