YMMV / The Many Dates of Danny Fenton

Go To

  • Adorkable: Like in canon, Danny is a bit of a dork who has a love of space, along with blushing around his dates whenever they kiss him. This is something many of his dates find cute.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: For those reading Danny and Kim for the first time after watching The Ultimate Enemy, it's obvious that Thanatos is Dark Danny. Mainly because that there are no other suspects that fit the bill.
  • Crossover Ship: The entire premise of the story, though each girl (save for Cree and Vicky) will have a reader who supports them being Danny's love interest.
  • Die for Our Ship: Critics of the fic and its spin-offs have accused them of playing up Sam's negative attributes for the sake of cementing Danny's chosen date as his real love, even if she manages to get a happy ending.
  • Fanwork-Only Fans: Katie Ka-Boom gained a massive following from readers of this story, turning her into a beloved character in spin-offs and in Flower Princess11's own story, Goin' KABOOM!. However, this is only for followers of this story and its author. She still remains one of the most divisive, if not hated, characters of Animaniacs.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Yakko at one point mentions that the Warner Siblings have little to do since their show is on re-runs. This story started in 2018, when Animaniacs was announced to have a revival on Hulu. In other words, they now have new stories to tell.
    • Danny and Kim has a moment with Danny fighting Jake Long as a tribute and semi-Take That! to the webseries DEATH BATTLE!. The year after the chapter from this spin-off, Death Battle announces that Danny will face Jake in an episode. Also, Danny wins that battle.
  • I Knew It!: Many people correctly guessed Thanatos was Dark Danny the entire time.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Katie may have been an unsettling girl, but her feelings for Danny were genuine and her heartbreak when he rejected her for her self-centered attitude was sad. Unsurprisingly, many readers wanted her to be Danny's choice.
  • Karmic Overkill: In the ending of Danny and Kim, several characters are punished and sent to prison for minor actions or none based on what they did in their source material. Best exemplified by the punishment of the Family Guy characters when they are disintegrated by Thanatos and after the climax, they are resurrected by Danny, only to be teleported into prison where they are given a life sentence by the guards for simply trespassing on prison grounds.
  • Unexpected Character: Girls like Kim Possible and Starfire aren't surprising since they're characters commonly shipped with Danny. There are still some surprises, though.
    • Nobody would expect Jen Masterson to be one of Danny's dates.
    • One of the stories is called A Ghost, A Girl and A Mystery. People thought it would involve Daphne Blake or Velma Dinkley, but instead it's Wendy Corduroy.
    • Debbie Thornberry was out of nowhere.
    • Katie Kaboom, a minor character of Animaniacs, was certainly not a character people would expect to appear.
    • When a fairy character was announced, many expected Bloom from Winx Club, but instead we get Musa.
    • Since this was a crossover of animated characters, nobody expected a live-action character like Antonio the Gold Ranger.
    • In Danny and Makoto, Danny encounters characters from Squid Girl, Yuki Yuna is a Hero and K-On!. The first and third are rather well known, whereas Yuki Yuna is relatively obscure.
    • Both Danny and Phantasma and Danny and Felicia feature an appearance of Rebreather. Not only is this not a character from Danny Phantom, it's not a character from any actual series or movie or the like, but one co-created by Butch Hartman (who also voiced him) for the JelloApocalypse video So This Is Basically... Danny Phantom.
    • Christmas Tales features an out of nowhere appearance of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It's sudden and they disappear as soon as they show up.
    • Christmas Tales also features an appearance by someone very unexpected, someone who is neither from cartoons, movies, shows, comics, books or even games: Segata Sanshiro, a character meant to advertise the Sega Saturn.
    • The last chapter reveals that Danny's friend is in fact Balan from Balan Wonderworld. The fact that the title character of a critically panned game became the first video game original character introduced into the series as opposed to more well-known characters like Mario or Sonic is actually questioned by Deadpool himself.
