Trivia / Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Scott McCord voices Owen, Jacques, and Brody.
    • Carter Hayden voices Noah, Spud, and Ennui.
    • Emilie-Claire Barlow voices Ellody and Laurie.
    • Lyon Smith voices twins Mickey and Jay, who always talk to each other.
    • Katie Griffin voices Mary and Miles.
    • In Poland, Owen and Noah are still voiced by the same guy.
    • In Russia, Don and Ryan have the same voice actor, which gets pretty noticeable in later episodes.
    • In the European French dub, The Geniuses team (Ellody/Elodie and Mary/Marie) are voiced by the same woman. It's the same for Rock/Larsen and Spud/Chips.
    • In the Hebrew dub, Rock was voiced by Spud's VA (Saar Badishi) only in the Season Finale.
  • Children Voicing Children: Jacob Ewaniuk, the voice of 13-year-old Junior, wasn't much older than his character at the time.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: In the United States, both Cartoon Network and Netflix billed The Ridonculous Race as "Season 7," but it's technically a spin-off following a different format than the original series.
  • Creator's Favorite: Owen is Tom McGillis's favorite.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: In the Spanish dub, Junior was voiced by Sofia Narvaez.
  • The Danza: In the Spanish (Latin America) version, Valentina "MacArthur" Escobar is voiced by Valentina Toro.
  • Descended Creator: Terry McGurrin was not just the voice of host Don in the spinoff, but also the series developer, story editor, and executive producer, as well as one of the writers.
  • Development Gag:
    • Mickey and Jay are recycled from Cameron's concept design.
    • Spud of the Rockers shares some similarities to Owen's concept design.
  • Fandom Life Cycle: Currently at stage 3, but is nearing the brink of stage 4.
  • Follow the Leader: This spinoff's premise of contestants being taken across the globe seems to be somewhat trying to emulate the success of World Tour (generally agreed to be the best Total Drama season).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Hungarian dub only has a promo, and 3/4 of the episodes of the European French dub is found.
  • Late Export for You: While the Catalan dub of Total Drama initially ended after 4 seasons, The Ridonculous Race, along with the previous two seasons (All Stars and Pahkitew Island), would be dubbed in Catalan 4 years after its initial premiere. The Ridonculous Race premiered in 2015, and its Catalan dub debuted in 2019.
    • While Disney XD only aired Total Drama Island and Total Drama Action in the United Kingdom, The Ridonculous Race is the only show/season to be available on The BBC iPlayer as of April 4, 2022. Ironically, none of the other seasons that led up to RidonculousWorld Tour, Revenge of the Island, All-Stars, and Pahkitew Island—aired in the UK as of 2022.
  • Life Imitates Art: The Goths and their black bunny, Loki, match up pretty well with this real-life story about a goth man and his black rabbit, Lucifer.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": The Ridonculous Race made its UK debut on the BBC iPlayer on April 4, 2022. As only the first two seasons of Total Drama aired on Disney XD in the UK, this would mark Leonard's (from Pahkitew Island) debut in the franchise in that country. Other post-Island characters include Blaineley (from World Tour) and Anne Maria (from Revenge of the Island).
  • No Export for You: In addition to the countries that never aired nor dubbed the original series (Japan, Germany), or ended after one or two seasons (Spainnote , the UK), Croatia is among the countries to not have the Spin-Off. Ironically, the show In-Universe is stated to be very big in Croatia.
  • Only So Many Canadian Actors: Under Canadian law, Race can only use Canadian voice actors in its production to receive federal tax credits. As such, many of the voice actors had appeared in prior Fresh TV productions, including Total Drama itself (for example, Ellody and Laurie are both voiced by Courtney's voice actress).
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In the Hebrew version, Rock and Kelly have different voice actors for the Grand Finale. Saar Badishi (Spud and Gerry) voiced Rock instead of Eviatar Adir, while Anat Niv (Josee) voices Kelly instead of Anat Salonim. The returning contestants from the main show/previous seasons (Owen, Noah, Geoff, and Leonard) were also recasted. Specifically, Owen retains his voice actor from his All-Stars cameo, while the rest have new actors.
    • In the Polish dub (as another side effect of the dubbing studio change), Geoff is voiced by Jarosław Boberek, instead of Robert Kudelski.
    • In the Romanian dub, due to the spin-off being dubbed in Bucharest instead of Oradea like the original series, Owen, Noah (who actually had three different voice actors in the original) and Geoff have different voice actors.
    • In the Spanish version, Josee is voiced by Rebeca Aponte for the rest of the season after "Ca-Noodling". Before then, Marycel Gonzaález was the voice of Josee.
  • Real-Life Relative: Mickey and Jay's Italian voice actors, Alessio and Mattia Nissolino, are brothers, but not twins (Alessio is older by a few years).
  • Screwed by the Network: The series started off airing new episodes at 5:00 PM on weekdays before it was pushed to 7:30 PM to make room for Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production. Like Total Drama Pahkitew Island, the entire show aired every weekday for a month rather than weekly, which meant the network had less time to promote the series and the fans had fewer opportunities to catch up if they missed an episode.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Don (the show's host) originally started off with a much different design and was known as Chadley Chizzleton, which went with his original basis of Ron Burgundy.
    • Lorenzo used to be known as Keifer, then Chad, and Chet was known as Keith.
    • Rock started out as Mike, then Roach, while Spuds started out as Corky than Sparky. Early promotional material also referred to them as the Small Town Buds rather than the Rockers.
    • MacArthur started out as Marsha and Sanders was known as Beth.
    • The Geniuses (Mary & Ellody) were originally known as the AV Club.
    • The Surfer Dudes (Geoff & Brody) were originally known as The Bromance Bros, and then the Bromance Boys. Brody also used to be known as Bro.
    • The Ice Dancers (Jacques & Josee) started out as siblings.
    • The Fashion Bloggers (Tom & Jen) started out as The BFFs and were the producer's assistants.
    • While The Tennis Rivals (Gerry & Pete) have a Friendly Rivalry with one another, they started out as mortal enemies who hated each other.
    • Leonard from Pahkitew Island was picked at the last minute because they wanted a magician character but figured "he was just as good" as well as to save money on production. This also lead to Tammy's creation as the magician had to be paired up with an assistant.
    • Besides the aforementioned magician and his assistant, a few other teams were considered but ultimately cut. These included an elderly couple in their nineties, a team of Pranksters, a team of Extreme Girls who were obsessed with over the top reality TV, and a team of nerds.
    • The Final 3 changed a few times. Among the known considered choices were Ice Dancers, Best Friends and Sisters; Ice Dancers, Police Cadets and Sisters; and Ice Dancers, Police Cadets and Best Friends.
