- Creative Differences: Hiroyuki Kakudou, director of Adventure and 02, was initially acting as a creative and lore consultant, but quit over the film's premise violating one of the rules created for the series' setting. Though unconfirmed, fans speculate it was the sudden enforcing of an age limit on being a Chosen Child/DigiDestined.
- Late Export for You: In the UK, the film was briefly released in theatres on March 9th 2022, and then received a DVD/Blu-Ray release in November 27th 2023, long after both the original Japanese releases (February 21st – Theatrical, September 2nd – Home) and US releases (September 29th – on Digital, October 6th – on Physical Media) in 2020.
- Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Since Digimon Adventure tri. was never dubbed in Italy and Latin America, Meiko and Meicoomon's brief appearance doubles as their debut over there.
- Meaningful Release Date: The English dub was released on physical media in the US on October 6, 2020, the 20th anniversary of when Digimon: The Movie was released in theaters in the US.
- No Export for You:
- "To Sora" is the only episode in the "Digimon adventure 20th memorial story" which has worldwide coverage. The other four episodes are only shown in pop up theatres for Kizuna. It wasn't until January 2021 that the other four episodes became available online after Japanese fans uploaded the footage.
- In Latin America, as with any anime film released exclusively in cinemas by Cinepolis, the film is not available in Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Venezuela because the company doesn't offer services in those countries.
- The Original Darrin:
- In the English dub, Jeff Nimoy, who originally played young Gennai, returns to the role after Steve Blum filled in for the final episode of Digimon Adventure 02, though Nimoy had voiced the evil Gennai doppelgänger in Digimon Adventure tri. in the interim.
- The Italian dub features Massimiliano Alto coming back as the voice of Tentomon after being replaced by Stefano Billi in 02 and an unknown voice actor in Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time, while Davide Lepore comes back as Gomamon after being replaced by Gianluca Crisafi in Young Hunters.
- The Other Darrin:
- After Japanese tri. saw the original eight Chosen Children's voices recast, the 02 kids (Daisuke, Ken, Miyako and Iori) follow suit.
- Daisuke: Reiko Kiuchi —> Fukujuro Katayama
- Ken: Romi Park —> Arthur Lounsbery
- Miyako: Rio Natsuki —> Ayaka Asai
- Iori: Megumi Urawa —> Yoshitaka Yamaya
- English dub wise:
- Nicolas Roye replaces Vic Mignogna (who was already The Other Darrin to Michael Reisz) as Matt from tri.
- Kate Higgins replaces Philece Sampler as Mimi. In addition, Bryce Papenbrook takes over from Sampler as Cody.
- Griffin Burns replaces Brian Donovan as Davis. Notably, Donovan did plan to reprise the role (even making an exception for it despite being largely a union only actor) but the Coronavirus lockdown preventing him from going into the studio and issues with his home set-up resulted in a recast being done.
- Jeannie Tirado replaces Tifanie Christun as Yolei.
- Christopher Swindle replaces Neil Kaplan as Hawkmon and Aquilamon. Kaplan did want to come back, but a combination of bad timing and production going a different direction, as well as deadlines for the dub to finish prevented it from happening. This is the second time Kaplan has been Other Darrined in the role, as Jeff Nimoy had filled in as Hawkmon in Revenge of Diaboromon.
- Robbie Daymond replaces Robert Axelrod as Armadillomon and Ankylomon. This recast is more justified, as Axelrod passed away prior to any plans for a dub. Daymond also replaces Dave Mallow as Upamon, following Mallow's retirement.
- Paul St. Peter, in addition to reprising his roles as Wormmon and Stingmon, also voices Minomon instead of Wendee Lee.
- The Italian dub recasts various characters:
- Federico Campaiola replaces Cinzia Villari as Taichi.
- Fabrizio De Flaviis replaces Paola Majano and Monica Ward as Yamato.
- Chiara Oliviero replaces Valeria Vidali as Sora.
- Stefano Broccoletti replaces Maura Cenciarelli as Koushiro.
- Monica Volpe replaces Michela Alborghetti as Mimi.
- Leonardo Caneva replaces Marco Vivio as Jou.
- Alberto Franco replaces Tatiana Dessi as Takeru.
- Veronica Cuscusa replaces Ilaria Latini as Hikari.
- Mosè Singh replaces Paola Majano as Daisuke.
- Benedetta Gravina replaces Paola Valentini as Miyako.
- Lorenzo Crisci replaces Alessia La Monica as Iori.
- Federico Viola replaces Monica Bertolotti and Leonardo Graziano as Ken.
- Edoardo Stoppacciaro replaces Nanni Baldini as Wormmon.
- Gianni Bersanetti, reprising his duties as the narrator, also replaces Fabrizio Vidale as Gennai.
- The German dub had a few recasts:
- Julia Meynen and Thomas Kästner play Miyako/Yolei and Hawkman rather than Julia Ziffer and Frank-Otto Schenk, respectively (Schenk died in 2020, while the movie came out in 2021 in Germany).
- Sebastian Fitzner replaces Carsten Otto as Iori/Cody, as Otto hasn't done voice acting since 2018.
- After Japanese tri. saw the original eight Chosen Children's voices recast, the 02 kids (Daisuke, Ken, Miyako and Iori) follow suit.
- Role Reprise:
- The 02 partner Digimon retain their original Japanese VAs.
- In the English dub...
- Derek Stephen Prince reprises his roles as Ken and Veemon/DemiVeemon/ExVeemon.
- Paul St. Peter reprises his role as Wormmon/Stingmon.
- The European Spanish dub got almost every original voice actor back, with the most notable examples being Rais David Báscones as Gomamon and Gennai, Rocío Azofra as Kari, and José Ramón Azpiri as Hawkmon, as they had all retired from voice acting. The only exceptions were Joe and Tentomon due to José María Carrero's passing in 2015, Veemon due to Jorge Teixeira not coming out of retirement (due to undisclosed but forceful reasons), Pilar Domínguez as Ken for the same (although she was thankful for the offer), and Francisco Andrés Valdivia as Wormmon since scheduling issues prevented him from reprising the role.
- The Latin American Spanish dub is a rather extreme example, as the dub managed to bring back almost every living voice actor from the dubs of the original series and 02, and only replacing those actors who either weren't available, unwilling, too old, or died. Special mention for the voice actors of Taichi, Yamato and Koshiro, Gerry Meza, Uraz Huerta and above all, Monica Estrada respectively, as they barely does dubs anymore nowadays. In Monica Estrada's case, she retired from voice acting and moved to the U.S., so her reprise as Koshiro is quite surprising for many fans.
- The Italian dub gets back the original voice actors for almost every Digimon partner: Alessio Cigliano as Agumon, Luigi Ferraro as Gabumon, Giò Giò Rapattoni as Piyomon, Massimiliano Alto as Tentomon, Davide Lepore as Gomamon, Monica Vulcano as Palmon, Patrizio Cigliano as Patamon, Laura Romano as Gatomon, Francesco Meoni as Veemon, Patrizia Burul as Hawkmon and Roberto Stocchi as Armadimon.
- The German dub also brings back most of the cast like they did with tri., including Florian Knorn as Taichi/Tai who is living in Sweden and is not active in the industry. Replacements that happened during the run of tri. stuck around. Addtionally, most of the voice actors of the 02 team came back, with the exception of three (see above).
- Schedule Slip: The planned U.S. theatrical release on March 25, 2020 was postponed following the COVID-19 outbreak, with Toei and Shout! Factory opting to do a Direct to Video release of the film on July 7, including an English dub to make up for it. Though the aforementioned release ultimately got delayed, the final date ended up being October 6, though with a digital release earlier on September 29.
- Torch the Franchise and Run: This interview with director Tomohisa Taguchi explains that this movie was pretty much this trope, as he felt that it was silly for the heroes to keep having adventures well into their thirties and that they need to grow up and leave that behind, despite the Distant Finale of Digimon Adventure 02 contradicting the Digimon partners disappearing by having the DigiDestined still have them as adults.
- Written by Cast Member: Jeff Nimoy, who voiced Tentomon and Gennai in the English dub, wrote the English dub script, having previously done so for various episodes of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, as well as Digimon: The Movie.
