Recap / The Real Ghostbusters S 6 E 7 My Left Fang

Go To

The Ghostbusters and Slimer are taking a working vacation in a small German town called Blukenporken. Slimer is excited, but Peter does not like it as they're serving a gross-looking soup, an organ grinder is playing music he dislikes, and all of the local women are too old for him. They meet a guy named Boris who wants to drive them to their destination, but his eyes are obscured by his hat, and it rains. Boris nearly drives off without them, and then when he does ride them to their destination, he drives erratically.

When they arrive, the citizens are excited to see the Ghostbusters, but even more excited to see Slimer. The Mayor explains that they used to have many haunted castles, which attracted tourists and led to tourism being the town's main source of income, so now that the ghosts are gone, the town is penniless. Thus, the Ghostbusters are asked to do the opposite of what they normally do: bring the ghosts back.

The Ghostbusters and Slimer arrive at a spooky old castle, owned by an intimidating old woman named Frau Schweinkiller. She puts some of Slimer's ectoplasm in a vial, spies on the Ghostbusters during dinner, and is perplexed by Peter "taking a turkey to bed" (not knowing Slimer was napping in it). She then goes into a secret room and gives the slime to her "master", who declares that in order to become powerful enough to escape the Netherworld, he needs to keep drinking slime. He then summons two bat-like monsters named Destricon and Lucifus.

After Slimer goes to bed, the three monsters attack Slimer. The guys hear him screaming and go to save him, then chase the "master" creature around the castle, and Ray and Winston are nearly killed by a spiked wall, while Peter and Egon nearly fall into a pit of snakes and rats. Egon scares Peter into getting an adrenaline rush necessary to pull them both up, but then a lava pit appears. Slimer gums up the death trap's gears and saves Ray and Winston, then Egon and Peter shoot the "master". It escapes, but so does Slimer.

Frau asks what the noise was about, and Egon explains that they had found a Class 7 ghost. She denies this, and insists that there are no ghosts in Blukenporken, making Egon suspicious. Slimer then points out that the "ghost" looks just like a painting of a guy known as the Count, who was a vampire, making them question if it was actually a vampire who attacked them. The next morning, Winston changes Boris's car to resemble the Ecto-1, and they drive out to the country and meet some ghosts, who have lost their powers due to the entity, whose name is Count Von Blukenporker, stealing their slime.

The guys search the secret room, armed with garlic, stakes, and a mallet, and the Count and his pets attack. He destroys Ray's gear with laser vision and drains all the slime from Slimer. The Ghostbusters try to shoot the Count, but he's immune to proton streams. Waiting until dawn would be too dangerous, but luckily, Egon realises that vampires and such entities must actually be vulnerable to specifically UV light, since they're not vulnerable to other light sources. He adds mirrors to the proton packs to create UV light, which they use to destroy the count, then they catch the ectoplasm and give it back to the ghosts (including Slimer).

This episode provides examples of

  • Badass in Distress: Ray and Winston are nearly killed by a spiked wall and need to be rescued by Slimer.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: Frau says, before going to bed, that "If you need anything... get it yourself!".
  • Bankruptcy Barrel: A few of the broke citizens are seen wearing barrels.
  • Bat Out of Hell: Destricon and Lucifus are Count Von Blukenporken's evil pets that resemble bats, and his room is home to some actual bats.
  • Blind Mistake: Because of his hat concealing his eyes, Boris bumps into a pole, and then mistakes it for a woman.
  • Bullet Dancing: Downplayed when Ray briefly sidesteps out of the way of a laser.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Some of the men in the town are in their undies because they can't afford to buy other clothes, but it's played for laughs since it leads to a play on the word "bare".
  • Creepy Changing Painting: When the Count painting is first seen, its eyes move.
  • Cyclops: Some of the ghosts have one eye.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Peter yells at the Count even after learning that he's twenty times stronger than a ghost.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: The townspeople play the theme tune on accordions.
  • Distressed Dude: Ray and Winston get stuck in a death trap, so Slimer rescues them.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Due to both going too fast and having his hat over his eyes, Boris swerves all over the show when driving.
  • Ectoplasm: The episode reveals that there exist creatures similar to vampires that feed on ectoplasm instead of blood, and that without ectoplasm, a ghost loses its powers.
  • Evil Laugh: The Count gives an evil chuckle a few times.
  • Evil Old Folks: Frau Schweinkiller is an old woman who works for the Count.
  • Evil Wears Black: Count Von Blukenporken wears a black robe.
  • Eye Beams: The Count has laser vision.
  • Fat Bastard: Played for Horror — Frau Schweinkiller is quite large, and she works for the Count.
  • Fear Is the Appropriate Response: Egon's "plan" when dangling above the snake/rat pit is to scream.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The Count's eyes glow.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Peter is seen wearing heart-printed boxers.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: During the wild car ride, Ray covers his eyes.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Peter says that the snake/rat pit is the worst thing that can happen... right before the lava pit appears.
  • Mythology Gag: Peter calls Slimer "spud", which Ray called him in the movie.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Exploited — most of Blukenporken's money comes from tourists paying to see ghosts.
  • No-Sell: The Count is immune to proton streams.
  • Not So Stoic: Egon screams when dangling above the snake/rat pit.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Both the count and the bats have red eyes.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Snakes Are Sinister: One of the traps in the castle is a pit full of snakes (and rats).
  • Sweet Tooth: Ray mentions having had two pies for dessert.
  • Tempting Fate: Subverted — when it rains, Ray says, "It could be worse — we could have to walk", and then Boris drives off without them... but then drives back for them.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: The theme tune plays as the Count is killed.
  • Totally Not a Werewolf: Because he has a noncorporeal form and registers like a ghost, Count Von Blukenporken is initially mistaken for one, when he's actually a vampire-like entity.
  • Vacation Episode: Downplayed — the Ghostbusters are taking a working vacation in Germany.
  • Vampires Hate Garlic: Zigzagged — Ray uses garlic to defend against a vampire-like entity.
  • Visual Pun: When the Mayor says that "town coffers are bare", some naked or undwear-clad men are shown coughing.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Count Von Blukenporken can shapeshift between a humanoid and a non-humanoid form.
  • The Von Trope Family: The "Von" in Count Von Blukenporken's name highlights that he's evil (as well as that he's German).
  • Weakened by the Light: Subverted — Egon determines vampires are not vulnerable to light, but rather to ultraviolet.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • Peter claims to "hate" snakes and rats, but since Egon specified that he should use his fear to escape, it seems that he doesn't just hate them; he's afraid of them.
    • Justified for vampires and such entities — they're afraid of the sun because it can kill them.
  • You Dirty Rat!: Rats are in one of the traps in the castle.
