A year and a half after the events of Zootopia, Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps bid fond farewell to their lives as beat patrolers and take their first steps as official detectives of the Zootopia Police Department. Before long, Nick and Judy are assigned an utterly mundane break and enter as their first case. However, all is not as it seems, and soon the seemingly straightforward case spirals out of control until the detective duo find themselves embroiled in a plot to destroy Zootopia. Time is a factor and millions of lives hang in the balance; can Team Wildehopps solve the mystery and save their home?

The fic, written by WriteAnon can be found in its entirety here. The fic itself is a bit on the long side and is rated a R for extreme graphic violence and mature subject matter.

A dramatic reading in in progress here.

Now has a sequel written by WriteAnon and drawn by MisterMead (of Judy Is Dead fame) called Water Under The Burrows. A more comprehensive version is here.

Tropes Under the Bridge:

  • Action Girl: Judy, as in the movie, is a very physical, straightforward cop who hands out ass-kickings and hugs in equal measure.
  • Affably Evil: Every single one of the villains are charming to some extent, but Finn fits this trope the best. The ferret is even friendly and chipper towards the people he wants to chew on.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: "Manny Beetz, you are under arrest for suspected breaking and entering, suspected burglary, possession of stolen property, resisting and evading arrest, assault on an officer of Zootopia Police Department, and (...) one parking violation."
  • Axe-Crazy: All of the villains to some extent, as they don't seem to mind exterminating an entire city for money, but the golden medal goes to Finn.
  • Badass Adorable: Judy, obviously, but Nick also qualifies for being no less willing to get into scrapes whilst being an adorable fluffy critter himself.
  • Body Horror: In other, less civilized parts of the world, violent offenders are 'rounded off', a process by which their natural weapons (claws, fangs, horns, antlers, etc) are surgically removed. Grigori had the procedure done with a pair of pliers.
  • Boomerang Bigot: After an encounter with the protagonists forced the trio of villains to flee their base of operations, Elim assumed that Nick, and not Judy, must have been the one who figured out their hiding place, on the basis that no prey is possibly that smart. Note that Elim is a gnu, and is himself the brains of the operation. This is especially glaring considering Grigori, a lynx who is the muscle of the team, considers Judy a Worthy Opponent and doesn't tend to underestimate her.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Finn likes chewing people to death. Very slowly.
  • Crazy Homeless People: Nick's old 'acting coach', Shakespeare. According to Nick, he wanders the city putting on one-man performances of the works of William Shakespeare. He's a little... odd.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Two times, both by Judy:
    • In the climax, Finn has Judy tied up to a chair. With her wits and strength, she was able to break out of the chair and even use a bit of it as an improvised weapon.
    • When confronting The Boss, a couple of large animals hold Judy down so the Big Bad can do some evil gloating. Turns out Bellwether thought that the conversation wasn't being recorded. Richard was able to get into the system and record her rant. As soon as this is made evident, Judy has incapacitated the guards.
  • The Dreaded: The villain team as whole is this to the underworld, to the extent that not even Mr. Big is willing to hire them, for fear of the collateral damage.
  • Fetishes Are Weird: As part of a metaphor, Nick offhandedly mentions finding 'little fellows who put on scuba-gear and pay big gals to swallow them' as weird.
  • Godzilla Threshold: After being soundly thrashed by Grigori, Nick deliberately gives himself Night Howler poisoning, putting himself into an insane feral rage in order to find the strength to do what it takes to stop Grigori from poisoning the water supply.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: For most of the story, Nick and Judy are pitted against a trio of Original Character dangerous criminals, but in the end it's revealed that their mysterious boss who masterminded the whole thing was Dawn Bellwether.
  • Hollywood Hacking: The particular specialty of Dick Dick the Dik-Dik.
  • Husky Russkie: Grigori is a Russian lynx who is extremely big and strong for a lynx, and acts as the muscle of the villainous trio.
  • No Holds Barred Beat Down: In the climax, Nick finds himself on the receiving end of an absolutely horrifying one at the hands of Grigori. Worth noting is that fact that Grigori could have killed him at any time during the fight, he just didn't want to.
  • Psycho for Hire: While Elim and Grigori are in it for the money, Finn mostly just tags along because their work provides him with opportunities for Cold-Blooded Torture.
  • Punny Name: A dik-dik named Richard Richardson. So naturally, people call him Dick-Dick.
  • Red Baron: Grigori has several well-deserved monikers themed around his favored method of killing: beating/breaking his victims to death. You do NOT get into a fist-fight with someone called 'Gory' Grigori.
  • Running Gag:invoked Someone using WildeHopps as a Portmanteau Couple Name, and someone else commenting that it sounds like something else (like a pub, for example).
  • Too Kinky to Torture: After getting his hands on a police-issue weapon for incapacitating criminals, Elim decides to test it on Finn. After repeated electrocution, Finn acts like he's enjoying it, and afterward is found to have an erection.
  • To the Pain:
    • More or less Finn's whole raison d'être, prolonging his play time for as long as possible using his surprisingly advanced medical knowledge.
    • Grigori, in the climax, vows to inflict this on Nick after the latter accidentally kills Elim.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Judy and Nick have earned themselves a reputation as this, and is one of the reasons they've been promoted to detective. After all, they already solved several big name cases, might as well make it their full time job. Then they get sent on a routine break in...
  • Villainous Friendship: Elim, Finn, and Grigori all seem to genuinely like each other and enjoy each other's company.
  • Worthy Opponent: Grigori sees Judy as one, and she was able to incapacitate him, while he has been known to take down larger predators.
