Pokemon Secret Journeys is a Pokemon crossover fanfiction by Tiger Lover 16.

The story begins with The Beyonder, a cosmic entity from the Marvel Universe, becoming aware of the Pokemon Universe and deciding to turn it into his plaything to entertain himself. Merging himself with the core of the universe while Arceus is in hibernation, The Beyonder takes control of the Pokemon World and makes a bet with the Alpha Pokemon to get it back.

As the world he came to know suddenly vanishes around him, Ash Ketchum is summoned to the Hall of Origin to take part in a Quest to save the world. The Beyonder alters the history of the Pokemon Universe, merging it with several other realities he's visited over the eon's, and challenges Ash to go back in time and redo his journey. Ash has to compete in every previous League he competed in, winning at least five out of seven of them in addition to the World Championships, to restore the world to normal: And if he loses, The Beyonder wins ownership of the Pokemon Universe and gets to continuously reshape it to suit his whims for all eternity.

Aided by Angie, an old friend of his from Professor Rowan's Summer Academy in Sinnoh who was with him when the old reality collapsed, and given the power to restore the memories of his travelling companions, his old Pokemon and at least twenty other people by Arceus, Ash Ketchum begins his greatest adventure yet to restore order to the world and thwart the Beyonder's ambitions: All the while, an unknown villain is selected to be the Beyonder's "Champion of Evil", working behind the scenes to foil Ash's efforts to save the world.

Secret Journeys is a multi-crossover story, featuring characters from Sonic the Hedgehog, Digimon (Primarily Adventure, but Tamers characters might also be featured), Power Rangers, Disney Ducks Universe and Godzilla being integrated into an alternate version of the Pokemon world.

The story is also loosely inspired by similar Ash Ketchum Peggy Sue fanfiction such as Ashes of the Past and Pokémon Reset Bloodlines, but the author plans to go in some different directions compared to those stories.

Secret Journeys is also both a Pokeshipping and a Morpheusshipping story, with the author clarifying that Ash will eventually end up in a relationship with both Misty and Angie.

Pokemon Secret Journeys contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: While most versions of Scrooge Mcduck are already suitably badass, Secret Journeys version of the character takes it an extra mile by establishing him as the World Champion Pokemon Trainer for 30 YEARS IN A ROW.

    • The Samurai is actually a mild example of this, or at least his Pinsir is. In Canon his Pinsir was only known to know the moves tackle and vicegrip, and it easily defeating Ash's Pidgeotto can be partially chalked down to it already being exhausted. In the new timeline, Pinsir also knows rock tomb and brick break and gave Ash and his Butterfree a very intense fight, mostly losing because Butterfree's psybeam attack had the unexpected side effect of confusing it. Samurai's Metapod, on the other hand, was about as useless as in Canon.

  • Adaptational Curves: Misty is noted to be a lot curvier in the new timeline than she was in the old timeline, and both Ash and Brock are noticeably taller and more muscular, especially in the latter's case. Amusingly, this isn't necessarily just because they're older, as they were the same age before the world was rebooted yet oddly hadn't seemed to age much physically since the days of their initial Kanto journey. The Beyonder's revamp of reality just made them look their age.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Looker arrives in Kanto shortly after Ash first leaves Pallet Town in the new timeline.

    • Mimey in the new reality has already been living with the Ketchum family for several years before Ash leaves on his Pokemon Journey, being with the family at least since Molly Hale was a baby.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Tracey Sketchit is dating Misty's older sister Daisy by the time Ash leaves on his Pokemon Journey in the new timeline. They were acquaintances in the original timeline, Daisy did date Tracey once as thanks for helping out at the gym but nothing ever came of it.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Sabrina ends up being an example of this in the new timeline. Apart from turning far more innocent people into dolls and the implication she did something to make her father disappear mysteriously, this version of Sabrina didn't get a chance to undergo her Heel-Face Turn and it's implied that she now works for The Beyonder's "Champion of Evil"

  • Adapted Out: Brock's Vulpix seems to be going this way, since Brock notes that in the new timeline according to her blog, Suzie is going to be in Hoenn for the duration of the time he, Ash, Misty and Angie will be travelling through Kanto, so the gang most likely won't be able to meet up with her so Vulpix can end up travelling with Brock again.

    • The International Police might not exist in the new universe according to Professor Oak, and Looker is now a member of the Pokemon G-Men like Lance instead.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Bill in the new timeline is noted to have been responsible for several breakthroughs in transporter technology, with Misty specifically noting that it's him people have to thank for Pokeballs being able to teleport to a chosen location when a trainer catches a Pokemon while having six on hand. This brings Bill a bit more in line with his game counterpart.

    • Angie's father owns a Luxray (Presumably related to Angie's Shinx) and her mother owns a Kangaskhan and a Chansey. Angie's mother is also noted to have once trained to be a nurse, and sometimes treats Pokemon belonging to the Solaceon Town residents when the Pokemon Center is overbooked.

  • Age Lift: Ash and his friends actually aged in the original timeline in this story, with Ash himself being sixteen post the events of the SWSH arc when the story begins. In the new timeline due to the trainer age being sixteen Ash and various other characters maintain the ages they had at the end of the old timeline by the start of the reboot... though strangely it's not consistent for everyone, as Professor Oak is now 60 and Brock's youngest siblings, Billy and Tilly, apparently were no older than they originally were the first time Ash and Misty met Brock. Molly Hale doesn't appear to have aged significantly either.

  • Always Someone Better: May ends up being this in the eyes of Serena in the Prologue. The two compete against each other in the Wallace Cup, and despite a strong effort, May's greater experience as a trainer results in her dominating Serena for most of their battle and gaining an impressive lead over her.

  • Ascended Extra: Angie was a minor recurring character who appeared in five episodes of the Diamond and Pearl anime. In this story she's promoted to being a main character and a new travelling companion for Ash.

    • Word of God indicates that some of the characters of the day from the Pokemon anime, like Samurai and Otoshi, will have recurring roles in the story as minor rivals of Ash for the Kanto Saga.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: While reminiscing on his adventures and all the friends he's made over the years to Angie, Ash comments that he'd gladly "Do it all over again" in regards to his journeys. The Beyonder promptly destroys and reboots the world and challenges Ash to redo his journey and win most of the Leagues he's lost previously to set everything back to normal. Ash proceeds to facepalm over his word choice.

  • Broad Strokes: Events similar to Sonic The Hedgehog 3, both Sonic Adventure Games, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle and Sonic Advanced 3 have taken place in the world of Secret Journeys, though not everything that happened the same way as the games. Metal Sonic apparently copied the Bio-Data of the Power Rangers' Megazord to become Metal Overlord, for example.

    • Similarly according to Word of God, the major events of the first two seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have already happened in this timeline.

  • Canon Foreigner:

    • The Beyonder merges the Pokemon Universe with various other realities, resulting in the casts of Sonic the Hedgehog, Power Rangers, Digimon Adventure, Godzilla and the Disney Ducks franchise now inhabiting it.

    • Daisy Oak exists in the new timeline. This actually serves as a source of great distress for Professor Oak when he realizes that if the timeline was restored to normal, Daisy would cease to exist because she was never born in the Canon world of the anime

  • Child Prodigy: Miles "Tails" Prower, as per usual.

  • The Chosen One: Discussed in regards to Ash. The main reason he's chosen to be sent back in time is that the Beyonder finds him fascinating for the fact he always seems to be at the center of every noteworthy incident involving Legendary Pokemon, Villain Teams and most other potentially world shaking incidents that have occurred since he started his journey, and the few he's not directly involved in still tend to link back to people with connections to him. It's to the point The Beyonder became convinced the world was actively revolving itself around Ash to make him it's go-to-saviour. Arceus, however, actively rejects such an implication, arguing that Ash has no greater importance than any other trainer in the grand scheme of things and that his habit of frequently wandering into larger than life situations is a hilarious series of coincidences.

  • Crush Blush: Angie does this quite a bit after meeting Ash again in Vermilion City. By chapter 3 she seems to be getting it under control for the most part though.

  • Disappeared Dad: As in Sonic Satam and the Archie Comics, Sally Acorn's father King Nigel goes missing after Dr Eggman takes over Mobotropolis. Even after the region of Knothole was liberated from Eggman's rule, The King remains missing, with rumours ranging from him being dead to Eggman having tossed him into an Ultra Wormhole.

    • As per the old timeline, Brock's father abandoned his family along with Brock's mother to try and make a name for himself as a trainer. Like Canon, he eventually came back though, albeit Brock, Ash and Misty had to confront him about it since he was embarrassed to come home on his own.

    • Sabrina's father mysteriously disappeared years ago. Her mother believes Sabrina herself had something to do with it.

  • The Ditz: Ash's Butterfree has shades of this.

  • The Dreaded: Sonic the Hedgehog is this to Giovanni and Team Rocket as a whole, being responsible for single-handedly decimating all but one of the Northern Team Rocket cells of the Johto Region due to Johto's close proximity to the Mobian Region of Knothole resulting in him frequently coming into conflict with the villainous organization during trips outside his home region. It's to the point that when Giovanni gets word of Sonic being on the move in Kanto, he immediately orders all his agents in the region to cease operations and lay low until they can figure out an effective way of dealing with the super powered hedgehog.

  • Family of Choice: In the new timeline, the Hale Family haven't yet moved away from Pallet Town, so Molly ended up growing up alongside Ash. Ash and Molly see each other as siblings as a result of this.

    • Ash refers to Professor's Kukui and Burnet and their infant son Lei as his Alola Family. Kukui in turn thinks of Ash like a son.

  • Fiery Red Head: Misty still has her moments, albeit following her Canon character development she's more mature and subdued compared to how she was during her and Ash's initial Kanto Journey.

  • Funny Animal: Two of the world's the Beyonder merges with the Pokemon World to create his new reality include the world's of Sonic the Hedgehog and the Disney Ducks Comic Universe. As a result, anthropomorphic animals now live alongside humans in several regions.

  • Great Off Screen War: 6 years before Ash started his journey in the new timeline, Dr Eggman took over the Mobian Kingdom of Knothole North of Johto and declared war on the other Regions of the Pokemon World with his robot army. Pokemon Trainers, Gym Leaders, The G-Men and Elite Four from several different regions took part in combating Eggman's forces alongside the Kanto-Johto armed forces and the Knothole Freedom Fighters for several months. The war ended when Sonic the Hedgehog gathered all seven Chaos Emeralds for the first time and personally defeated Eggman and crushed most of his forces.

  • I Need a Freaking Drink: This is Professor Oak's reaction after realizing that setting the timeline back to normal would erase his granddaughter Daisy from existence, as she only exists in the new timeline created by the Beyonder.

  • Jerkass God: The Beyonder knows full well that the mortals living in the world's he's tampering with wouldn't take kindly to him altering reality for his games, but explicitly doesn't care, reasoning that as a higher being most mortals are like ants compared to him and not his problem, so their well-being is of less concern to him than his own sense of enjoyment. Ash, Angie and Arceus all resent him over this.

  • Kid Hero: Sonic the Hedgehog and the original Freedom Fighters were all 10 years old when Dr Eggman first tried to take over the world and they banded together to fool his plans. In present time Sonic is 16 years old, so more of a teen hero. His sidekick Tails still counts however, being 10 years old.

  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Scrooge Mcduck caught wind of Sabrina abusing her Gym Challengers with her psychic powers and went to the Saffron Gym to confront her about it. Unlike with Ash and Haunter in the original timeline, it seems Scrooge wasn't able to reason with Sabrina and get her to perform a Heel-Face Turn, and instead he defeated her in a Pokemon battle and handed her over to the police. Sabrina somehow escaped sometime afterwards, and now seems to be aligned with an unknown villain stalking Ash and friends.

  • Mad Scientist: Dr Ivo Robotnik/Dr Eggman, as per usual.

  • Manchild: Dr Eggman again, to the point a man being held captive by him compares one of the Doctor's sudden rants over Sonic foiling his schemes to his own infant son throwing a tantrum.

  • Missing Mom: Molly Hale's mother again in the new timeline, courtesy of the Unown.

  • Narrative Profanity Filter: After getting smacked against a large boulder by Brock's Onix, Pikachu is noted to have said a word that Ash would never dare to say in the presence of his mother, Professor Burnet, Molly, Max or Bonnie.

  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: Iris apparently beat the entire Unovan Elite Four consecutively and took down five of Alder's Pokemon with two of her own left to spare (Albeit, her Dragonite seems injured enough it would be unlikely to battle further). It's unknown how her battle with Alder ended and whether or not she became the new Unova Champion though, as the scene cut away right as her Haxorus and Alder's Bouffalant began to clash with one another and the Beyonder rebooted the world shortly after.

    • May and Dawn each won a grand festival in the original timeline sometime after their last meetings with Ash.

  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Professor Oak's granddaughter and Misty's eldest sister are both named Daisy.

  • Original Character: Four so far. Amagi, a socially awkward young girl who's the Pallet Trainer who chose Bulbasaur. Joey and Bruno, a pair of Pokemon Hunters Angie has an encounter with. And Angie's Aunt Winry. The author has stated that he doesn't plan to include a large number of OC's due to the many Canon characters at his disposal, and the ones that do exist will mostly serve utilitarian roles.

  • Parental Abandonment: Misty notes that in the new timeline, her parents abandoned her and her sisters as soon as Daisy turned sixteen and she hasn't seen or heard from them since.

  • Peggy Sue: Of a sort. The plot involves Ash being sent back in time to redo his journey from the start, but it's a severely altered world he's now travelling through full of characters and elements from various other series, and even the people and places from his original timeline aren't exactly the same as he remembers them.

  • Polyamory: Word of God reveals that Ash will eventually end up in a relationship with both Misty and Angie.

  • Precocious Crush: Max appears to have one on all three of the Sensational Sisters.

  • Reality Warper: The Beyonder, naturally.

  • Redemption Rejection: Ash offers the Team Rocket Trio a chance to turn their lives around and become good guys and join him in saving the world. But while the Trio deeply consider it and even seemed ready to turn good for a moment, their built up resentment of Ash for all their years of failure to capture Pikachu makes Jessie, James and Meowth too furious and prideful to accept the offer. Recognizing they do have to help Ash save the world from the Beyonder at least so they can't meddle with his affairs for the time being, The Trio nonetheless decide to go on a training journey in the hopes of beating Ash in a fair battle by the time he challenges the Viridian Gym, deciding that would be definitive proof that they could in fact beat Ash and that their efforts at villainy weren't doomed to eternal failure.

  • Relationship Upgrade: May and Drew apparently became a couple shortly before the start of the story, right before the Beyonder rebooted the world. It remains to be seen what their relationship will be like in the new timeline once Ash eventually meets May again and restores her memories of the old timeline, or if he'll be able to do the same for Drew.

  • Reset Button: Ash and friends intend to restore the Pokemon World to it's original state once Ash wins the bet against the Beyonder, but as the story progresses the moral implications of altering the world a second time start to give some of the characters pause. Professor Oak for example has a second grandchild in the new timeline, Daisy Oak, who he's very fond of, and to his horror he realizes that if the world is restored to it's original state, she would be erased from existence.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Ash's Pidgeotto is revealed to be a girl, like in Ashes of the Past and Pokemon Reset Bloodlines.

  • Shipper on Deck: Pikachu clearly ships Ash with Misty, while Angie's mother at least repeatedly teases her over Ash.

  • Stable Time Loop: Ash intends to go to Rota and free Lucario from Sir Arron's staff early this time around, hoping to avoid Pikachu being accidentally abducted by Mew and the events that resulted in Lucario's death, allowing him to survive this time around and help Ash save the world. Brock points out to Ash however that even if Lucario survives in the new timeline, he'd go right back to being dead if the world was restored to it's original state anyway, which gives Ash pause and makes him question if it's fair on Lucario to restore his memories of the old timeline to recruit his help knowing he would have to die again anyway.
  • Tears of Joy: Ash's Caterpie sheds a few of these after seeing him again post memory restoration.

  • Tomboy: Both Misty and Angie fit the bill.

  • Took a Level in Badass: Team Rocket are actively trying to invoke this by going on a training journey to capture powerful Pokemon, including the Ancient Pokemon from Grandpa Canyon, and become capable enough trainers to beat Ash in a fair battle. Whether or not they'll succeed is yet to be determined.

  • Trademark Favourite Food: Pikachu's love of ketchup remains evident.

  • Translator Buddy: Pikachu serves as this to Ash when the latter tries to converse with the past version of Goh's Pinsir.

  • True Companions: As usual, Misty and Brock are this to Ash, having no hesitation in agreeing to help him on his quest despite their concerns and frustrations with their situation.

  • Villain with Good Publicity: Giovanni makes a conscious effort to maintain a good public image as the Viridian Gym Leader, as it helps him avoid suspicion from the law. He strongly discourages and disapproves of his grunts pulling heists in Viridian due to the risk of having his cover jeopardized.

  • Weirdness Magnet: Ash's status as this is what made the Beyonder notice him in the first place, resulting in him being the one to get set back in time as part of the Beyonder's bet with Arceus.
