Beauty And The Bomb is a Friday Night Funkin' fanfiction written in September 2021 by Clare, being her first full-length Friday Night Funkin' fanfiction after specializing in one-shots, along with her second full-length fanfiction overall. The fanfiction is a retelling of Disney's Beauty and the Beast , with Carol and Whitty starring as the title roles. The story is set in an extremely heavy Alternate Universe, being of a kingdom in the time period the original story was set in, many characters from the game itself (Senpai (Gaston), BF (Lumiere), GF (Fifi/Babette), and more), mods (Carol (Belle), Whitty (Beast), Sunday (Maurice), Updike (Monseuir D'Arque), and more), and even from other forms of media of which have been modded in some way or are a part of the game itself (Pico from Pico's School (Cogsworth), Lila, Skid, and Pump from Spooky Month, Miku from Music/Vocaloid (Wardrobe), and Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club! (Lefou)). The story takes many creative liberties, as well as inspiration from both the movie and musical versions of Beauty And The Beast.

Beauty And The Bomb contains examples of...

  • Action Girl: Carol, and to a lesser extent, Ayana.
  • Action Mom: Lila, all the way.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Senpai and Monika are both considerably nicer than their game/movie counterparts (Gaston and Lefou), Monika in particular being far more sympathetic than Lefou.
  • Adapted Out: The character role of Lefou is adapted out, and instead replaced with Monika being, rather than Senpai's (Gaston's) lackey, his best friend who has an arc of her own.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Several of these characters are shown quite different from their original counterparts, particularly Monika and Miku, both of whom show qualities quite different from their original portrayals. Clare explains that due to the major alternate universe, changes had to be made.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Carol with Whitty and Sarvente with Ruv.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Carol and Sunday are known to be different by the rest of the town, Carol in particular being revealed to be suffering from an identity crisis related to the such.
  • Alpha Bitch: Senpai is the male version of this. Subverted as it turns out he's not so bad.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Monika delivers one in Chapter 15 to Senpai, who was completely oblivious to her feelings beforehand. Carol delivers one in the final chapter over Whitty as he dies, just like in the movie.
  • Anti-Villain: Despite being after Whitty, Updike is a genuinely good man and only wishes to protect the village. He simply has no idea of Whitty's true nature, and truly regrets his actions after he shoots Whitty. Thankfully, he is given the chance to apologize and is forgiven.
  • Beast and Beauty: Quite clearly, Whitty and Carol respectively.
  • Betty and Veronica: Monika's Betty to Carol's Veronica for Senpai, despite Carol's full disinterest in him. He ends up with Monika in the end after changing his ways.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Many in the final chapters, most notably Carol, Monika, Sunday, Lisa, Ayana, and Lila.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Skid breaks the fourth wall in the final chapter.
  • Covered in Kisses: BF ends up like this in the final chapter from his mother, the poor fella.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Lila does so to Skid and Pump when Whitty and Carol kiss in front of everyone in the final chapter.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Lisa is portrayed as one of these from the get go, with her braids, glasses, timid nature, and unfortunate tendency to trip.
  • Easily Forgiven: Updike is easily forgiven for his actions, as is Senpai.
  • Easily-Overheard Conversation: Momi easily overheads Senpai's plan in the library, which comes in useful when she exposes his actions publicly.
  • Foreshadowing: Plenty of appearances are made of BF and GF's families before the final chapter's reunions.
  • Genki Girl: Miku, all the way. Momi qualifies as this as well, along with GF, albeit to a lesser extent.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Miku, as in her iconic look, sports these, matching her extremely girly personality.
  • Gossipy Hens: Both of Senpai's fangirls, who are known to gossip about others.
  • Happily Adopted: Pump ends up being adopted by Lila in the end much to his and Skid's happiness.
  • Happily Ever After: Everyone in the final chapter has a happy conclusion to their personal character arcs.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Monika, Senpai, and Updike all receive this, though Monika and Updike were not villainous to begin with.
  • Hidden Depths: Several of the castle servants are shown to have these in Chapter 5 and Chapter 12, both chapters revolving around them.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Despite her own jealousy and feelings for Senpai, Monika doesn't stop him from being with Carol due to wanting him to be happy. Lucky for her, she gets her wish in the end.
  • Jewish and Nerdy: Like the authoress of the fanfiction, Lisa is Jewish, and she’s a shy bookworm librarian.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Momi is shown to be one of these, being sweet and owning many cats.
  • Lighter and Softer: Surprisingly, despite being a Disney movie combined with a Newgrounds game, the story finds itself lighter and softer than even the original Disney movie. Unlike Belle, Carol (Belle) is shown to be fairly popular in town and only considered rather odd by some, Senpai (Gaston) is nowhere near as manipulative and uncaring, nor does he attempt to lock Sunday (Maurice) away, and Whitty (Beast) is portrayed as less violent than the Beast initially. Along with this, many characters are Spared by the Adaptation and receive Heel–Face Turn.
  • Likable Villain: Despite seeming like an arrogant jerk at first, Senpai goes on to prove he isn't as bad as he seems. Fitting as he later receives a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Plucky Girl: Carol definitely qualifies as one, with no qualms when it comes to standing up for herself against anyone, whether it be Senpai, Updike, or even Whitty when he gives her attitude.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Updike is one of these, a well meaning and noble man, unfortunately unaware of the fact that Whitty isn’t evil. He even apologizes and is forgiven in the final chapter.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The loud, confident Sunday to the chill, relaxed Carol respectively. BF and Pico also respectively fit this trope, BF being energetic and eager with Pico being more mature and rule abiding, along with Skid and Pump, the former being outgoing and emotional and the latter being introverted and logical.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: BF and GF are portrayed heavily as this throughout the story.
  • Smooch of Victory: Many of these in the final chapter.
  • Something about a Rose: Just as in the original tale, roses play an important role in the story.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Senpai, Monika, and Momi, all of whom died in their original games (Senpai in Friday Night Funkin', Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club!, and Momi in her own mod, although she is only presumed deceased) live in this story. Senpai's role as Gaston even survives in this retelling and receives a Heel–Face Turn!
  • Title Drop: Just like the original Disney movie, the story ends with this.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboyish Carol to the feminine Monika.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Despite being tomboyish, Carol wears dresses throughout the story and styles her hair.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The entire fanfiction is a Friday Night Funkin' retelling of Beauty And The Beast.
