Shattered Dimensions has gotten mostly positive reception, and spans 3 different stories:

Shattered Dimensions: The first story, in which Allen Greathouse finds a portal to Equestria and is trapped there for one week. During his stay, he learns of an ancient war between humans and ponies, which resulted in the creation of Crystal Guardians that are hunting him now.

Hero Of Equestria: After returning to Equestria, Allen finds out that a group of humans has created a portal to Equestria, which has awakened a poweful warlord from the ancient pony-human war.

Obsidian Horizon: Drayke Blackwood, the infamous "Obsidian King", is summoned to investigate Allen's disappearance.

  • Final Battle: Allen and Drayke fight to the death, each armed with a suit of winged crystal armor and a massive crystal weapon.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: While fighting his way to the throne room, Allen wears a pair of goggles that lets him detect Crystal Guardians, even when they are camouflaged.
  • Great Escape: Allen helps Twilight and the others do this, and they immediately help him reach the throne room.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Drayke sends him back to Earth, Allen goes through one. He gets better, though.
  • Heroic Safe Mode: After Celestia reveals that she can't really send Allen home, Allen attacks her in a fit of rage and goes into this.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Averted. Allen quickly learns how to summon his sword at will. Drayke learns how to use his powers even faster, summoning armor, weapons, and even his own Crystal Guardians.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: The reason Allen knows how to use swords so well.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Allen wishes he had a katana instead of the ordinary sword Celestia gives him. He gets one eventually.
  • Kinda Busy Here: Allen's mom calls him in the middle of a fight with a Crystal Guardian.

  • Last Villain Stand: Drayke decides to call off the Guardians and fight Allen himself when he arrives at the throne room.
  • Menacing Stroll: Drayke walks like this when he enters the Castle Canterlot throne room to announce his takeover.
  • Mistaken for Badass: Everyone is convinced that Allen is some kind of hero, but he insists he's just a normal guy.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Allen destroys the pillar that is summoning the Crystal Guardians, but this just gives Drayke the ability to summon his own.
  • Now It's My Turn: After Drayke wounds him and the Elements of Harmony heal him, Allen counterattacks by running him through with his sword.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Subverted; Drayke has no problem sending Crystal Guardians after Allen after he first returns to Equestria, but he eventually realizes that he has to kill the boy himself.
  • "Open!" Says Me: Allen uses his sword to break open the door to the Canterlot Armory.
  • Plummet Perspective: Allen knows if he falls off of Cloudsdale, he's done for.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Allen goes into this mindset when he finds out that Celestia can't really send him home.
  • Separated from the Adults: In probably the biggest way possible.
  • Sic 'Em: After Drayke learns that Allen is back, he summons a massive Crystal Titan to attack him.
  • Underestimating Badassery: The Crystal Guardians continue to attack Allen, despite the fact that he is fully capable of taking them out.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After Celestia's betrayal, Allen takes his anger out on a Sentinel.
  • Villainous Valour: Drayke and the Crystal Guardians actually put up a fair fight against Allen most of the time.

Tropes Appearing In Hero Of Equestria
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Although Allen's indestructible crystal sword is gone, he does possess a less-powerful replica.
    • Sanguis's massive claymore also counts.
  • Action Dad: Despite his quiet and nervous mannerism, Robert Greathouse is just as skilled, if not more skilled, than his son when it comes to fighting.
  • Aloof Ally: Drayke.
  • Always Save the Girl: Although Allen's goal through most of the story is to defeat Sanguis, saving Luna becomes his main focus after she is captured.
  • Bound and Gagged: While Sanguis is yelling at Sombra and Chrysalis for their failure, Luna is lying nearby, wrapped in chains.
  • The Chain of Harm: After Allen and his friends escape the Crystal Empire, Sanguis kills Chrysalis and Sombra.
  • Clean Cut: Just like his original, Allen's new sword has no trouble slicing and dicing whatever stands in his way (as long as it isn't Sanguis...)
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Although Allen's first fight with Sanguis starts out pretty fairly, it goes downhill quickly and ends with a mutilated arm, a knife in his back, and maybe even death if his friends hadn't been there to help.
  • Conveniently Timed Attack from Behind: Just as Sanguis is about to finish off Allen, Robert distracts him with several shots to the head, prompting Sanguis to kill him instead.
  • Final Battle: Allen and Sanguis fight in the shattered wreckage of the Crystal Palace.
  • Gladiator Games: Allen and Robert fight each other in one of these, although it is purely for sport and poses no actual risk to the participants.
  • Heroic BSoD: Robert's death and Luna's capture puts Allen into one of these.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Allen spends several chapters learning how to control his newly-acquired powers.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Drayke uses one of these when Allen insists that his scythe is no longer a wise option.
  • Last Villain Stand: Sanguis fights Allen after Nightmare Moon, his last remaining servant, has been defeated.
  • Non-Fatal Explosions: Shining Armor's mech's self-destruct mode knocks Allen off of his feet, but doesn't seriously injure him.
  • Nonviolent Initial Confrontation: Allen tries this when he first meets Sanguis, to which the latter responds by immediately trying to murder him.
  • Normally, I Would Be Dead Now: Throughout the course of the story, Sanguis is stabbed by a scythe and a sword, struck with all sorts of magical attacks, and shot in the head six times. It isn't until Allen impales him on a massive crystal spike that he finally dies.
  • No-Sell: Sanguis is seemingly immune to any non-magical attacks, and often gives a bored response when anyone tries to harm him.
  • Ominous Walk: Sanguis does this whenever he is about to kill someone.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Sanguis fears that Allen may pose a serious threat to him, and thus spends most of his time trying to kill the boy.
  • Paying for the Action Scene: After the Final Battle, Allen spends most of the next few months rebuilding the Crystal Empire.
  • Punched Across the Room: This happens to Sanguis after Allen watches him kill Robert.
  • Redemption Demotion: Drayke loses most of his powers when he is brought back.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: Robert's signature weapon is a silver revolver.
  • Separated from the Adults: subverted by the presence of Robert and Drayke, although the former is just as tied up in this as Allen is, and Drayke hardly qualifies as an adult.
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Allen knows a spell that turns him into a full alicorn because... reasons.
  • Sword and Gun: Robert's fighting style.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Sanguis's army fights Allen and Drayke, despite the two having a track record of kicking ass.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After Sanguis kills Shining Armor and Robert, Allen proceeds to completely annihilate his entire army in just a few seconds.

    Tropes Appearing In Obsidian Horizon
  • Eldritch Location: The Void, an endless expanse that occupies the gaps between different universes.
  • Failure Knight: Drayke lost the love of his life once before; he is not going to let Cadence go without a fight.
  • Home Sweet Home: Drayke just wants to get this over with so he can go home.
  • Redemption Demotion: Drayke starts the story next to powerless, his only weapon a seemingly mundane sword. He eventually gets his Obsidian King's crystal recharged, but it's still nowhere near as powerful as it was in the first story.
