    Ultraman Trigger

Ultraman Trigger

Boot Up: Zeperion! Ultraman Trigger: Multi Type!
A Giant of Light revived after millennia. As well as his Multi Type natural form, he can Type Change into a Power Type form which is specialized for fighting with great strength on land and a Sky Type form that is specialized for aerial combat and agility. He wields the sacred weapon Circle Arms in battle.

He is eventually revealed to have once been Trigger Dark, a Dark Giant who stood against Yuzare and led the others into battle, before he redeemed himself and turned into a warrior of light at some point in the past.

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: In the last episode, Trigger’s Multi Type fuses with the power of Trigger Dark to become Trigger Truth, giving him the necessary power to face Magalothor.
  • Alternate Self: Of Ultraman Tiga, being a giant of light that saved the world 30 million years ago from a darkness and reawakens in the modern day. To further this, he also has an enmity with a group of Dark Giants that he's heavily implied and later revealed to have once been a part of before redeeming himself and turning to the light.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: The Glitter Blade used by his Glitter Eternity form is attached to his wrist.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist:
    • Trigger is very much like Tiga in more ways than one, but there are quite a few things that separates him from the latter; for one thing, Trigger is armed with the sacred weapon Circle Arms, whereas Tiga is all about hand-to-hand combat. While Tiga's Type Change only changed the color of his body, Trigger's body receives some changes when he change forms, such as different head crest or in the case of Power Type slightly bigger physique. Lastly, Trigger accepted the darkness, embracing it along with the light, unlike Tiga, who rejected the former in favor of fully turning to the latter.
    • Trigger and Z have their transformations bound to a modern device developed to house their powers which itself is based on a previously existing one. However, while Z employs the powers of past heroes, Trigger is a self-contained Ultra Hero employs a Multiform Balance system more akin to the ones employed by Ultraman Tiga and Dyna based on strength, speed and a balance of both. Likewise, while Z is heavily based on Ultraseven's design he uses the original Ultraman's host/Ultra relationship with Haruki, Trigger remains faithful to his inspiration by being more of an Empty Shell which Kengo comes into possession of.
  • Deadly Upgrade: Glitter Eternity gives Trigger a huge power up, but until Kengo is able to get this power under control with Ribut's help, it's extremely taxing on his body.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Multi Photon allows Trigger Glitter Eternity to split into three.
  • Dual Wielding: Late into the series, in his Glitter Form, Trigger would wield the Glitter Blade and Circle Arms simultaneously slashing opponents with both weapons at once. These are usually reserved for when things go really, really bad, such as when Carmeara unleashed her Megalothor form.
  • Empty Shell: It's heavily implied that Trigger's statue in Mars was not alive and merely had Trigger's power and body ready to be taken by its next host after the original left it behind not unlike Tiga. Episode 12 and 13 confirm this with the reveal that Kengo is Trigger's inner light reincarnated.
  • Finishing Move: Each of Trigger's forms has the exact same moves as Tiga: Multi Type uses the Zeperion Beam, Power Type has the Deracium Beam Torrent, and Sky Type possesses the Runboldt Beam Shell. In addition, the Circle Arms has one per form: Zeperion Sword Finish for Multi Type, Deracium Claw Impact for Power Type, and Runboldt Arrow Strike for Sky Type.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Is heavily implied to have formerly been a Giant of Darkness, much like his inspiration was revealed to be in the movie, before turning to good due to Yuzare. Episode 10 confirms this is the case.
  • Hero of Another Story: In Ultraman Decker he's been taking up the role of Mars' protector after the Spheres trapped the inhabitants of the colony there with a barrier. He briefly takes a detour from his own heroism on the red planet to aid his successor, Decker, against the returning Megalothor.
  • Legacy Character: It's implied that just like Tiga, this isn't the original Trigger and is instead just a shell of the original's power meant to be taken by a new host to transform with. The truth turns out to be a bit more complicated.
  • Multiform Balance: Trigger has three forms that he normally uses (one for strength, one for speed and the other for a balanced approach), each of them are parallels to Ultraman Tiga's own forms. Episode 12 sees him gain a fourth form: Glitter Eternity, with help from the power of the Eternity Core granted by Yuzare.
    • Jack of All Stats: Multi Type, Trigger's default form, it's neither as strong as Power Type, nor faster than Sky Type. Instead it aims for a balanced approach to fighting when neither an overwhelming speed or strength are needed.
    • Mighty Glacier: Power Type, a red/silver form used for close-quarters combat and strength matches. It is slower than Multi and Sky types but far stronger and more destructive in comparison.
    • Fragile Speedster: Sky Type, an indigo/silver form used for quick and aerial combat, it has far less physical strength than either Multi or Power type in favor of being much faster and agile.
    • Golden Super Mode: Glitter Eternity, a golden/orange/silver form capable of employing all three of the other forms' powers and beyond. It can work for all kinds of combat but has the drawback of exhausting Trigger's energy far faster than his other forms.
    • Yin-Yang Bomb: Truth, a combination of Multi-type power of Light and his original power of Darkness that use the energy of the Eternity Core without the drawback.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In the first teaser that showcases Trigger's forms, the backgrounds for each represents different environments in which Tiga fought against the three Dark Giants in The Final Odyssey.
      • Multi Type is shown in deserted ruins, which is similar to where Tiga and Camearra's final fight took place (a deserted ruined city of the Giants of Light).
      • Power Type's underwater, where Tiga and Darramb fought.
      • Sky Type is well, a sky, the place where Tiga and Hudra fought
    • Like his inspiration, he was a member of the Dark Giants in the past before defecting from them and turning to the light.
    • His final form, Truth, is born of him accepting both the light and darkness into himself, which is similar to a scrapped idea for Tiga's own final form which would've also been a light/darkness-empowered form.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: His power was sealed inside of a statue in Mars before being found.
  • Suddenly Voiced: He mostly speaks in grunts but will occassionally speak full sentences with Kengo's voice.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: What separates him from Tiga is this. Circle Arms is a sacred weapon that can change depending on what form is being used in a particular situation.
    • Multi Type: Multi Sword, the default form of the Circle Arms which functions as a great close and medium range weapon with a balance between speed and force.
    • Power Type: Power Claw, a strength-oriented weapon meant for close quarters combat, it employs both striking and lifting attacks.
    • Sky Type: Sky Arrow, an agility-oriented weapon meant for aerial and long-range combat, it is a bow-like weapon that fires arrows of energy to fight opponents with and can charge shots for maximum power output.

The Dark Warrior of Good (Unmarked Spoilers)
Ultraman Trigger Dark, the split personality of Ultraman Trigger who was formerly his original self. After its merge with Ignis it becomes an anti-heroic character, seeking to destroy the Dark Giants due to Ignis' desire for revenge, and along the way becomes Bash Brothers with Trigger.

Multiversal Ultras

    Ultraman Z and Haruki Natsukawa

Ultraman Z and Haruki Natsukawa

Portrayed by: Kohshu Hirano (Haruki Natsukawa), Tasuku Hatanaka (Ultraman Z, both stock grunts and speaking voice), Satoru Okabe (suit actor)

The preceding Ultraman who also a self-proclaimed disciple of Ultraman Zero and his host, a STORAGE operative, who arrive in this new universe to assist Trigger against many deadly foes. They arrived on Trigger's universe after a battle against a thieving Alien Barossa which had their Ultra Z Riser damaged severely and their Ultra Medals stolen, forcing them to employ a modified GUTS Sparklence from Akito to transform.
For other tropes pertaining them see Ultraman Z
  • Apologetic Attacker: Just before Z and Trigger fire their Ultra Beams, Haruki apologized to King Joe for what is going to happen, but he takes its remains afterwards so that he and STORAGE can fix it.
  • But Now I Must Go: While the Z Riser is not yet fixed and both entrust it to Akito, Z and Haruki leave for home to deliver a wrecked King Joe STORAGE Custom back to earth and continue fighting threats in it until their Z-Riser is finished.
  • Dimensional Traveler: Haruki and Z find themselves in Trigger's universe after Alien Barossa IV used a Bullton to open a black hole, and team up with their succeeding heroes to fight foes such as the aforementioned Barossa.
  • Gratuitous English: Z greets Kengo and Akito with "nice to meet you" upon introducing himself to them.
  • History Repeats:
    • Like his senior Geed and mentor Zero, Z ends up with his Transformation Trinket damaged in this series and also ends up using the newest one in its steed. Unlike both of them, his Riser isn't fixed still by the time he's finished his team-up with the current hero and instead leaves it behind to be fixed by Akito.
    • Much like their first transformation, Haruki messes up his first transformation with the GUTS Sparklence, though this time it resulted in Agony of the Feet for Z instead of nothing happening.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Haruki doesn’t listen to Akito’s explanation of how to fully use the GUTS Sparklence, culminating in him shooting Z in the foot instead of transforming due to him not knowing the Sparklence has a second form until Z took a better look. The second time out, he gets Genre Savvy and watches Kengo go through his transformation to copy him.
  • Now You Tell Me: Turns out Beliarok had the ability to slash open dimensional gates to freely travel across dimensions all along, solving the issue of Haruki and Z being stranded on a different Earth. Haruki is less than amused it took him this long to mention it.
  • Wrecked Weapon: The Z Riser was damaged by the Barossa during the fight on the way to Trigger's universe, forcing Z to use the GUTS Sparklence and form-specific Hyper Keys to transform in its stead while leaving Akito to fix it.

    Ultraman Tiga (Unmarked Spoilers)

Ultraman Tiga

Portrayed by: Yuji Machi (grunt voice), Satoru Okabe (suit actor)

The ancient hero that saved the Earth from the Neo Frontier Universe. A legendary figure that in spite of not having appeared in the show in the flesh until Episode 19, still has a large role in it, as his heroics shaped much of the series' events.
See Ultraman Tiga for tropes pertaining to Tiga in general
  • Big Damn Heroes: Mr. Shizuma's light summoned him to aid a losing Trigger against Kyrieloid in Episode 19.
  • The Bus Came Back: The first appearance of the original Tiga in many years since the end of his series, excluding movie appearances. Like his previous return in Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light he gets summoned by humanity's hopes.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: As Mr. Shizuma was inspired by Tiga's heroic deeds. Tiga is indirectly responsible for the foundation of GUTS-Select and all the good that has come from it.
  • Mythology Gag: Fulfills a similar role in this series that the original Ultraman did in Ultraman Tiga, being a hero from decades ago who is summoned by a miracle of an old man's hopes to battle a seemingly unstoppable foe, all without a human host.

    Ultraman Ribut

Ultraman Ribut

Portrayed by: Wataru Komada (voice), Shimba Tsuchiya (human form)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/human_ribut.jpg
Ribut's human form
Another Ultra Hero and a prominent member from Galaxy Rescue Force who's had many exploits in the franchise. He appears chasing the Absolutian threat to Trigger's Earth and becomes a mentor-like figure to Trigger in order to help the hero get stronger.
See Ultraman Taiga for tropes pertaining to Ribut in general
  • Aliens Among Us: Ultraman Trigger features the debut of Ribut's human form, which wasn't seen before due to Ribut exclusively appearing in miniseries set in space rather than Earth.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Makes his entrance in episode 14 by saving Trigger from Absolute Diavolo.
  • The Mentor: To a degree, while he doesn't outright mentor Trigger at everything, he teaches him how to better fight in episode 15 and to control the energy output of Glitter Eternity.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ribut showing off how an Ultra can turn anything that holds light into a Transformation Trinket in episode 15 allows Ignis to become Trigger Dark.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Ribut has gotten strong enough to fight the Absolutian Absolute Diavolo on equal terms and is even able to knock him down. To put in perspective, Diavolo is said to be equal to Tartarus in power (possibly stronger in terms of brute strength) and had just completely curb-stomped the Dark Giants and Trigger in a straight-fight.
  • Training from Hell: Puts Kengo through an intense sparring session whilst he's still injured to help him control Glitter Trigger Eternity, similar to the training he himself endured with Great and Powered.
  • Wax On, Wax Off: Helps Kengo gain better control of Glitter Eternity's power by forcing him to follow a choreographed dance sequence to help empty his mind and remember what his goals were.
