Pajama Sam

The titular character, a young boy with an active imagination and a love for his favorite comic book hero, Pajama Man. In each game he ventures into strange worlds (personifying whatever was going on in the real world at that moment,) learning life lessons as he solves problems for its residents.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: His skin and hair are blue.
  • Badass Adorable: Sam himself, thanks to being an Adorably Precocious Child.
  • Big Eater: In the third game. He eats over 20 packages of cookies, a cake that has to be at least 30 times his size, several other snacks, a candy cane taller than he is, and bonbons.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Sam eats his peas with barbecue sauce. His mother thinks he's nuts for that.
  • Blank White Eyes: When he has his Pajama Man mask on.
  • Catchphrase: "Pajama Sam always helps those in need!"
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: In the credits for You Are What You Eat From Your Head to Your Feet, he's seen putting an egg, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, and a piece of toast in a pan, and looks to be adding milk, ketchup, and a LOT of salt to the concoction.
  • The Cutie: He's such an adorable and friendly child, you can't help but want to hug him!
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's got a few moments like these, like his response to Otto's story about wood not floating. Has a few moments of visual takes as well.
  • Kid Hero: His age is specified to be 6 years old, according to the original HE website. [1]
  • Mr. Imagination: All of the adventures he goes through are in his imagination, inspired by things going on before they start and/or comics that he was reading prior.
  • Nice Guy: Always happy to help and is very polite to everyone he meets.
  • Pajama-Clad Hero: They don't call him "Pajama Sam" for nothing.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cheese, especially in a sandwich.

Carrot

A living carrot reoccurring through the series; he often involves himself in the odd politics of whatever world Sam is in.

  • Anthropomorphic Food: He and the rest of the carrots in the Salad Liberation Front.
  • Big Good: Of the third game. Not only is he responsible for the peace conference, but he spends most of the game distracting the trigger-happy General Beetfoot from declaring war on the sweets.
  • Cool People Rebel Against Authority: He's a left-leaning political activist who has a soul patch made of leaves and peppers his speech with things like "man" and "right on".
  • Cutting Off the Branches: The series makes it imply that the path in "No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside" where you need to take Carrot to the refrigerator is canon as he shows up in the later games (Carrot would appear in one path of "Thunder And Lightning Aren't So Frightening" and is a main character in "You Are What You Eat From Your Head To Your Feet".
  • Demoted to Extra: In the fourth game.
  • Internal Reformist: He jumps at the chance to make changes at World Wide Weather after Sam gives him a seat on the board.
  • Parental Bonus: Most of his politics and economics will soar right over kids' heads.
  • Rebel Leader: Leads the Salad Liberation Front to free the trapped carrots in Darkness’ kitchen in the first game.
  • Under New Management: Upon being given a seat with World Wide Weather's board of directors he rapidly seizes power, getting himself elected as chairman, instituting several reforms to improve working conditions, before ultimately dissolving the board entirely and leaving himself as the sole person in charge.
  • Your Size May Vary: In the first two games, he's small enough to fit in Sam's hand. In the third game, he's nearly as big as Sam himself.

Pajama Man

The hero of Sam's comic book, whose adventures often mirror Sam's in some way.

In No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside

Otto

A living wooden boat who carries Sam across the river in the Land Of Darkness.

  • Ironic Fear: He is, initially, afraid of water because he's worried he might sink.
  • Knows a Guy Who Knows a Guy: He heard that wood sinks from a friend of his who told him a story about his dentist's brother who was made of wood, and sank in the water.

Darkness

A personification of darkness living in Pajama Sam's closet and a resident of the aptly named Land of Darkness. In his first adventure, Sam ventures into a bizarre world (through his own closet) in order to vanquish him and capture him inside his lunchbox.

In Thunder And Lightning Aren't So Frightening

Thunder and Lightning

The weather controllers of World Wide Weather, and personifications of the actual weather phenomena of the same names. In his second adventure, Sam ventures into another bizarre world (through his own attic), to stop them from making a huge storm that's happening outside his house.

Automated Snowflake Inspector/Flakey

A robot worker of the World Wide Weather who specializes on making sure that every snowflake in the snow machine are different. He is one of the components that were let loose after Sam accidentally pressed the red button. Depending on which path, the Snowflake Inspector is either stuck in a dust devil or is hiding and refused to work after not getting any recognition for his hard work.
  • Distressed Dude: One path has him trapped on a roof, cornered by a dust devil.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: He refuses to fix the snowflake machine due to feeling underappreciated by his coworkers.
  • In-Series Nickname: He is known as Flakey by the Snowflake Inspector Detector.
  • No-Respect Guy: Flakey's main conflict in trying to find him is that he isn't appreciated by the company for the hard work he's done.

Velocimomometer

A component of the Wind Machine, also known as "Velo" for short. They were shaken loose after Sam press the red button. They can be found in the warehouse's basement, or trapped in the executive washroom.
  • In-Series Nickname: They allow Sam to call them "Velo".
  • Shrinking Violet: They have a shy personality, shrinking away from Sam until he assures them he can take them back to the Wind Machine.

In You Are What You Eat From Your Head To Your Feet

Sprinkles

A frosted covered doughnut with sprinkles. She met Sam after accidentally swinging on her as he thought she was just a regular swing, and lets Sam take her across the rivers of Mop Top Island after he lets her off the tree she was tied to.

  • Contrasting Replacement Character: To Otto from "No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside" as they're both characters that give Sam a ride across the rivers in their respective games. Unlike Otto who is a boat and very skeptical about that boats can float after hearing stuff from other sources, Sprinkles is a large doughnut who is very optimistic and likes to swim.
  • Token Good Teammate: She's one of the few sweets in the game who is helpful towards Sam.
