Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

"Due to the show having many contestants, this page is made to avoid overdosing the main page."

Do they have a personal dictionary definition of Trope Overdosed? Because where I come from, this refers to links from other pages.

It's listed on Anime as being right before the A, as part of the [#ABC] folder. I think we'd want to stay consistent with that since it's the main anime index on the site.

So it's fine as is for now.

I was voicing my opinion, not suggesting how to handle it.

And now, BetterThanItSounds.Film, where two drug-addled lunatics go to Mars in an RV to steal Martian mercury. It's played for tragedy and in subtitled Esperanto, including the subtitles.

How long is it going to take for the Pokemon Anime Character Page to get unlocked?

I know that the Characters/WAOA page got locked and all. From what I read, the suggestion was that every troper have their own page, but a good majority of them have only one character. Perhaps a split via troper name by the Alphabet, similar to how it's usually done with other pages? A-F, etc, I mean.

[up][up] As soon as we find a good way to split it. I recall that page is already divided into folders, so maybe we could divide it that way.

Anyway, Fridge.Film. I'll probably continue with examples in the Other folders, but here goes.

I've done everything up to "Other 1", and I don't mind if someone takes over from here.

Except that due to the anime's nature, we'll have to rearrange it in a specific way.

[up] With the exception of the "Current Main Cast" one, obviously.

Just move Ash and his Pikachu into Kanto/Orange Islands/Johto, and the new guys into Uvona. That could work.

I'm not as knowledgeable on pop music, but I decided to go ahead and take a stab at a Tear Jerker page for pop music. I'm sure I missed a few - but, as I just said, I don't know as much about that genre. Of course, if you see anything that I missed, you're free to add it.

I just tried putting together a new main page for Awesome.Video Game Bosses with the new subpages in place of the folders at Awesome.Video Game Bosses Temp - the new version is around 143K characters, so although it's still a bit lengthy, it should be under the problem threshold. If it looks all right, the temporary page can (and should) be cut (assuming its contents are then moved to the original Awesome.Video Game Bosses page).

The thought occurred while I was creating the subpages (see post #223 in this thread) that it might be prudent to put a disclaimer at the top of the pages in the category reminding editors that stories about how you defeated a boss in an unusual yet awesome fashion belong on Troper Tales rather than on the main page; perhaps that's just me.
