Tumblrfort is a series of Tumblr stories based on Team Fortress 2, only connected by the titular tag. It was known for being a fairly close knit, yet somewhat drama prone, group. However, it's been years since their peak, and many stories fell to account rot/Tumblr rule changes and are now impossible to verify.

In the stories, the cast interact both on the classic battlefields like 2Fort, Coldfront, Moutainlab, Fastlane, Sawmill, and Dust Bowlm and inter-base via teleporter, train, and correspondence.

See Ya Boy Network for a similar group of Team Fortress 2 roleplayers on Twitter, and their equally unverifiable stories.

Tropes present in this work:

  • Anachronism Stew: The roleplay take place in the late 60s, but "fudging" of the time period is fairly common.
  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Wren, and claims much more when inebriated.
  • Affably Evil: The Agents of the 'Static' event seem like an interesting (and in the case of Tri and Pyat, even loveable) bunch. Too bad they're out to kidnap, torture, and murder.
  • Agent Peacock: Hilderich in spades. He’s even associated with peacocks.
  • Agony of the Feet: Self-imposed by Karl as a form of self-punishment. (He gave his word to Aldous that he'd stop.)
  • Anger Born of Worry: Most of the tsundere characters in Tumblrfort have this trait.
  • Animal Motifs: Several charas are associated with different animals and birds (J.D.- Eagle, Aldous- Goat, Hilderich- Peacock, Karl- Swan, just to name a few).
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: A mutual one- this was how Abel and J.D. professed their feelings for one another.
  • Artificial Limbs:
    • In addition to the Engineers with Gunslingers, Alexei has a truly badass robot arm to replace the one he lost to frostbite.
    • Jerry has three prosthetic fingers.
    • Faris is one of the generic Gunslinger Engineers.
    • Jason has an entire robotic arm.
  • Artificial Limbs: Eli has an ever-so-fashionable pair of steel legs.He isn't amused when people mock them.
  • Badass Bookworm: Several of the more literate characters. Markov stands out due to his Ph D and his several hundred books.
  • Berserk Button:
    • NEVER mention to Maurice that you've harmed a child or call Abel a monster.
    • Never harm anyone Ming loves.
    • Never make Cole angry.
    • Never EVER call J.D. a civilian or otherwise infer that he's not a real Soldier.
    • Calling Amadour fat. Most people call him that deliberately just to piss him off.
    • Russell is easily set off by 'greyfaces' (anons) insulting, hurting, or upsetting anyone he cares about.
    • Speaking Russian in front of Diethelm is a one-way ticket to hell.
    • Let's just shorten the list and say that there's a lot of things that can piss the mercs off.
    • Spycrab Marcel has a soft spot for kids, and heaven help you if you've hurt one of any species.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Everyone is a mercenary after all. No matter how nice they look or act.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Many people qualify but Maurice has a nice collection to himself.
    • JJ's hunting knife, named Sally, it's always with him, also he has a large collection of knives in the workshop.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Brighton, though perhaps not in the way intended - her extended 'therapy session' left her unable to smoke without becoming nauseous.
  • Bratty Half-Pint:
    • Allison can come off as this, though there's a hidden reason for her behavior.
    • Many of the Scouts act this way as well.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy:
    • Well, not so much lazy as psychotic, but Aldous has almost a miraculous talent for healing- you'd never know, though, because he rarely uses it.
    • Mstislav keeps his knowledge to himself in order to avoid trouble altogether (which includes keeping his mouth shut in any case).
  • Broken Bird:
    • Tess is a borderline case, her past as a juvenile delinquent contributing to her current cynical attitude.
    • Hotaru's abusive childhood has led her to expect the worst of people and to her paranoid, withdrawn personality.
  • Buffy Speak: Louis, the BLU medic uses this when trying to explain things, or when she's trying to be deliberately vague. Her clone does too, to a lesser extent.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer:
    • Kar. She's an extremely competent Sniper, she just goofs off a lot.
    • Nikki also is a much more competent doctor than his naive and childish demeanor would suggest.
    • Louis, the BLU medic. Though she's often engaging in shenanigans, she still manages to show she knows what she's doing when needed.
  • Childhood Friends: Leroy and Tess, the Little Shits from Southie.
  • Clone Degeneration:
    • Inverted with Alois, who infected himself with a virus made from Diethelm's DNA to give himself vampirism, thus avoiding the inevitable degeneration.
  • Crossover: Happens occasionally with other Tumblr RP communities - within Tumblrfort itself, there’s Kar, a Mandalorian Sniper.
  • Cute Bruiser: Short, adorable Tess has got one mean left hook.
  • Dandere: Hotaru is withdrawn and speaks little even with her friends, but start talking about ghosts and try to get her to shut up.
  • Death Is Cheap: Due to respawn chip technology, almost everyone has "died" at least once, but few stay dead. There are, of course, exceptions.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Karl's friendship with the Haswells and his relationship with Niklaus have had this effect on him.
  • Eagleland: Most of the Soldiers fall into Type 1.
  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Many of the characters who have a hard time speaking English.
  • Emergency Transformation: Ansel, a BLU Medic, asked a vampire he knew to turn him, so he wouldn't die of an illness that would have otherwise been fatal.
  • Emotionless Girl: Hotaru tries to pass herself off as this.
  • Erudite Stoner: Willie. It's best just to assume she's stoned unless informed otherwise.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Maurice only kills pedophiles and kidnappers when The Monster isn't in control. When it is, it doesn't matter who the target becomes.
    • Krimhilde resists killing those who cannot respawn (and who have kissed up properly).
    • JJ mostly kills when he's enraged or under the influence of Sally, causing him to kill anything that's in front of him, when not enraged or under the influence of Sally, he just pulls pranks.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Aldous’ one on his eye, given to him by Hilderich as revenge for giving Markov his two scars.
    • Jerry has a mass of scarring on his throat.
    • Diethelm has a swastika carved into his chest, over his heart from when he was a child. His over zealous father gave it to him to usher in his life with the Nazis.
    • Half of Hotaru's body is heavily scarred from becoming caught in the fire while burning down her high school.
    • Pyro Miriam has burn scars of varying sizes, some from fire poi practice mishaps in her youth and others from reckless handling of fire and homemade weaponry later in her adolescence.
    • Several of the mercs at Mountain Lab have acquired new scars due to the animal attacks that occurred near the end of the Snow In event.
  • Evil Redhead: Brighton, no doubt. Also falls under the Fiery Redhead trope, though less so.
  • Fantastic Racism: In addition to instances of regular racism and homophobia, some mercs are prejudiced against hybrids.
  • Everyone Can See It: Tess and Zach started out as just Friends with Benefits, but just about everyone could see their deeper feelings for each other.
  • Evil Twin: Aldous comes across as being Abel's- however he's far deeper than that.
  • Food Porn: The culinary skilled mercs will often post delicious looking meals and desserts. It's enough to make you want to lick your screen.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Leroy and Tess were best friends as children, but didn't remember when they met again as adults. For quite a while they hated each other, till Jean brought their connection to light.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: Some characters often interact with the mods of other characters, or vice versa.
  • Friendly Enemy: A lot of RED/BLU relationships are like this.
  • Friendly War: All of Tumblrfort could be seen as this; cross-faction relationships, both romantic and platonic, are pretty common.
  • Good Bad Girl: Tess has a somewhat "slutty" past, but is very loyal once in a relationship.
  • Grave-Marking Scene: Walter building markers for Jean and Erika, as well as one for Redford (with Tess to help him). Flint has a notable scene sitting by the grave of his father.
  • Green Thumb: Alexei. He got a garden to not only grow in the desert, but FLOURISH. He's currently working on growing one in Coldfront of all places (Katya built him a greenhouse).
    • Krimhilde typically grows plants in cellars or her dorm and can keep a large garden in great condition.
  • Headbutt of Love: Zach and Tess did this a lot.
  • Heroic BSoD: Happens to Nikki upon witnessing Hotaru's suicide by saw blade.
    • Jane had one of these when he thought Abel had been killed for good.
    • Alexei after beating Nazarov nearly to death out of anger.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Tavish and J.D. are these, even though J.D. himself is bi.
    • Aldous and Alexei - both are straight with girlfriends, but they are also very devoted and caring towards one another.
  • Hidden Depths: Hardly anyone is as uncomplicated as they appear on the surface - Aldous in particular is far from the bloodthirsty monster he appears to be at first glance. Krimhilde really isn't too willing to get in touch with her non-existent sentimental side and will rarely act any other way besides her usual self. When Diethelm gets hurt or sad, he usually covers this up with anger and hatred.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: 6'4" pyro Gino Matthews and 5'1" pyro Miriam Ko'olau'uhane.
    • 6'2" scout Zach Aaronson and 5'2" scout Tess Mac Namara.
  • Humble Hero: Many mercenaries fit this trope.
  • I Am a Monster: Comes up often both in hybrids and in the regular mercs.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Diethelm had this talk with Friedrich Strauss in reference to Louis, the BLU medic.
    • Dell hinted at this talk with pyro Gino when he started dating pyro Miriam.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Louis, the BLU medic thinks she did this when she walked in on Diethelm performing a ritual to give Etienne wings.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Part of Dell's reasoning for choosing to not pursue his romantic feelings.
  • I'll Be in My Bunk: Occasionally, this happens. (Ask Abel about Karl and a carton of milk.)
  • Important Haircut: Tess attacks her hair with a pair of scissors during a low point after Zach is transferred away and the stress of losing so many loved ones finally gets to her.
    • As part of Brighton's punishment/therapy/Mind Rape, Justine cuts her trademark bushy red hair off. All of it.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Autumn. In a world of murderers, thieves, madmen, and generally not-nice people, Autumn remains ever sweet, kind, and as innocent as someone in 2Fort can be. Also, Chibz.

  • Lack of Empathy: Candice recognizes your sadness but will not share it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Brighton, of the Hard-Hitting Speedster variety, being a scout. Admittedly, she's not as speedy as most of her class, but she still has the skill in speed necessary, and as a former amateur boxer, she can land a mean blow and take it just as hard.
  • Lethal Chef: J.D., to the point that he's more or less forbidden from cooking.
    • His ribs and barbecue sauce, however, turn out amazingly well.
    • Jason, as he cooks with gunpowder, his cooking sessions are rather 'explosive'.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Sarcasm is just one of the many services Tess freely offers.
  • Dain, Dom's hawk.
  • Runi, Kar's hawk.
  • Dinah, Yiv's hawk.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Louis' grandfather played a much larger role in her early upbringing than either of her parents.
  • Rollerblade Good: Tess is a former derby girl and wears skates in battle.
  • Running Gag: Aldous is a dolphin. Hilderich is a peacock. Ming CONSTANTLY getting anonymous deliveries of fried rice (which she doesn't even like). Allison humping any couch she comes across. Amadour being called fat (even though he isn't). Fastlane being called Fatlane.
  • Satisfied Street Rat: Tess spent her teen years running with a gang.
    • Brighton spent the majority of her childhood in Youngstown, Ohio during the years that saw the peak of its gang-related high crime rates. She takes pride in her roots in "Murdertown, USA."
  • Scars Are Forever: Jerry's scarring on his throat from when he was attacked by a dog.
    • The scar on Krimhilde's face from a fight when she was a roaming adolescent.
    • JJ has many scars, one covering his whole arm from a encounter with a Pyro, and some burn scars lines across his face from the curse that fell onto him.
    • Candice's burns scars from her high school shenanigans and the other one.
  • Shipper on Deck: Rather Shippers on Deck. Hotaru and Lakresha. Hotaru keeps a chart. Anons.
  • Serial-Killer Killer: Maurice again, except it's with those who would hurt children; JJ.
  • Slasher Smile: Candice upon getting a revenge kill with her axe.
    • JJ when he considers you're bothering him.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Markov. He’s a novelist and has literally hundreds of books, not to mention the Ph D. Randall can act brash and look stupid, but he loves science-y things.
    • JJ, he may look like the normal mindless Soldier but he has actually almost gotten a medical license.
  • The Sociopath: Brighton, though not always apparent; she has spells where the sociopath really bleeds through, though.
    • Candice is one, but it's rather mild, and she's not actively malicious about it.
  • Teen Genius: Back when Louis, the BLU medic, was a teen she was this; having graduated high school several years early.
    • Willie entered college at the University of Texas at sixteen.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Aldous and Gummy Bears (and plums), J.D. and ribs, Abel and cherries, Kooky and apples, Ming and eggrolls, Candice and bacon, JJ and caramelized apples.
  • True Companions: Several close-knit groups of mercs within the game, especially those that have fought together for months or years.
  • Vampire Bites Suck: Louis, the BLU medic was bitten by Diethelm, she didn't like it as it had sent her to respawn. Inverted with Alois and Yivon, in that Alois was careful in minimizing pain.
  • Viral Transformation: This is how Diethelm's vampirism was passed to Alois.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: J.D.'s most defining (and according to him, ONLY) attractive feature- they are very, VERY blue, described as being 'like a cloudless sky on a perfect Fourth of July afternoon'.
    • JJ's eyes are totally grey, with some shiny part that make people think they're a pair of pearls.
    • Etienne's eyes are two tones, consisting of off silver or grey, and golden brown.
  • When He Smiles: It takes something (or someone) really special to make him do it, but if you can get Aldous to give a genuine, non wicked or sarcastic smile, he looks just as sweet as his twin.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Peter. He even wears dresses into battle when he can get away with it.
  • Wicked Cultured: Karl was a professional ballet dancer back in Stuttgart.
    • Markov and his PhD in Literature.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Several of the male characters have this outlook. Justified as it takes place in the late 60s, though averted because nearly every woman they meet is a mercenary of one form or another and should be capable of giving as good as she gets.
