The Thunderman Family

    In General
  • Badass Family: The parents were already accomplished superheroes, and the kids are eagerly following in their footsteps, mostly successfully.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Hank is a gluttonous Glory Hound, Barb is only slightly Closer to Earth than he is, Phoebe is a neurotic perfectionist, Max is a Big Bad Wannabe, Billy is dumb, Nora is tyrannical, and Chloe is a child with the ability to teleport you to the North Pole if you make her mad. It's funnier than it sounds.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Pretty much everyone in the family has played this role at least once, with Phoebe, Max and Nora being the most prominent culprits.
    Phoebe Thunderman/Thunder Girl

Phoebe is the oldest daughter of Barb and Hank Thunderman, born 20 seconds earlier than her twin brother, Max. Her younger siblings are Billy, Nora and Chloe Thunderman, and they are the Thunder Kids. Phoebe was born and raised in Metroburg when their parents were still active superheroes. In 2013, the Thundermans moved to Hiddenville to live a normal life.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl:
    • Phoebe's taken combat lessons as part of her superhero training, and she's by no means bad at using them. In Thundermans: Secret Revealed and various other episodes, Phoebe could take on Dark Mayhem and her brother Max using nothing but her physical prowess.
    • In Max to the Future, one of the skills she listed on her Z-Force application and was capable of actually doing was using a bo-staff.
  • Always Someone Better: Max admits to Phoebe that he only wants to be a supervillain because Phoebe is so good at being a superhero and he doesn't want to be second-best. He wants to be the best at what he does, even if it means being best at being bad.
  • Badass Bookworm: She's a nerdy straight-A student that loves to study, especially math, and is able to do tasks such as hack her brother's computer system, but she's also a superhero who kicks ass.
  • Big Sister Instinct: While she has no problems mocking, humiliating, and pranking Max (and to a much lesser extent Billy and Nora) the moment he's ever in serious trouble she'll jump to his defense. The feeling's mutual. She's likewise very protective of her younger siblings.
  • Big Sister Mentor: Defied, Phoebe offered to train Max so he'd be a better hero like her but then a message from the "Z-Force" appears through a hologram. The voice says that Phoebe has been selected for a chance to join the last spot on the Z-Force because of defeating one of the world's biggest supervillains, Dark Mayhem. The Z-Force is an elite team of superheroes under the Hero League which accepts only the best superheroes. Due to excitement, Phoebe ditches training Max so that she can start preparing to join the Z-Force. This upsets Max as he goes out to train himself and help save people.
  • Bizarre Human Biology: She has an extra lobe in her brain for her superpowers.
  • Brainy Brunette: Highly intelligent, very dedicated to school work and has brown hair.
  • Breath Weapon: Able to breathe pure cold like Max, which she can use to freeze people in ice. It apparently has no long terms effects. She can also use this to make snow. It is also revealed to also work on ghosts. (Haunted Thundermans). According to Phoebe, if Phoebe and Max's ice breaths touch, they could freeze a whole city.
    • She can breathe blasts of pure heat, which can achieve multiple feats such as melting people who have been frozen, or heating objects.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Ironically, for someone with a secret identity, Phoebe is terrible at keeping secrets.
  • Cassandra Truth: In "Cheer and Present Danger," Phoebe warns Cherry that the cheerleading squad is planning to pull a humiliating prank on her, but Cherry thinks that Phoebe is just jealous that Cherry made the squad and Phoebe didn't. Phoebe is jealous, but she's also telling the truth.
  • Changing Clothes Is a Free Action: In Call of Lunch Duty, Phoebe quickly changes into a full Mexican wrestling outfit in less than five seconds.
    • Done with a superhero costume change in Thundermans Secret Revealed when Phoebe goes behind a barrier in a dress and emerges less than a second later in her Thundergirl outfit.
  • Child Prodigy: Ever since her childhood, Phoebe's been doted on as the future best hero ever.
  • The Conscience: Zigzagged. She always calls out Max (and sometimes her other siblings) when he does something wrong. But then she sometimes does things that are just as bad.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Including telekinesis, heat breath, ice breath, super intelligence, and super senses.
  • Dance Battler: Like Max, Phoebe is incredibly agile and flexible, she relies a lot on her agility and speed during combat.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Determinator: Phoebe didn't let her previous failure make her give up on getting the superhero cape. In "A Hero Is Born", Phoebe exposed the family's secret to her best friend Cherry so that Cherry can babysit Chloe while Phoebe saves Max from the evil villains led by King Crab. As a reward for saving Max, the Hero League awarded Phoebe a superhero cape.
  • Eager Rookie: Phoebe showed her desire to train and become a superhero and her dad offered to train her. In Thunder Van, she started training to join the Hero University but after she had Max messed up in the Thunder Van, she decided to take it slow.
    • However, by Cape Fear, she realized that she needed to put more effort in training after her best friend from Metroburg got her Superhero Cape. Unfortunately, she ruined her chances when she sneaked to a rooftop party and used telekinesis to save someone from falling. She let Max take the credit so that she doesn't get in trouble. Max blew up the chance for both of them to get the superhero cape.
  • Extracurricular Enthusiast: In "Report Card," it is established that Phoebe loves going to school, and considers it to be her equivalent of Max's lair. She even goes to school when she doesn't need to ("Ditch Day" and "On The Straight and Arrow"). Her afterschool activities have included competing in the Math Bowl ("Report Card"), taking care of a teacher's rare plant ("Weekend Guest"), student government ("You Stole My Thunder, Man"), science fairs ("Weird Science Fair"), charity bake sales and volunteering at a library ("Phoebe's A Clone Now"), choir ("Pretty Little Choirs"), cheerleading ("Cheer and Present Danger"), ballet ("You've Got Fail"), organizing school dances ("The Amazing Rat Race"), writing for the student newspaper ("Call of Lunch Duty"), and probably others as well.
  • Fatal Flaw: Phoebe has a big ego and tends to react negatively when she feels her status as “perfect prodigy” is threatened.
    • She nearly ruins her friendship with Cherry when the latter gets picked as a cheerleader over her. Barb later states that she has a jealousy streak.
    • She specifically has the need to be better than Max. When Max gets more praise in art class then her she becomes jealous (despite being better than him in every other subject) and she makes it her main goal to make an art piece that’s “better than Max’s”. When it’s discovered that Max actually has Billy get him art thrown away by a studio she asks Billy to get her something better to show off but he ends up stealing a priceless vase from a museum instead.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom:
    • In the crossover episode called "Haunted Thundermans" when the Green Ghoul possesses Phoebe, her eyes glow green.
    • After Dark Mayhem's powers take full control of her, Phoebe's evil powers manifest with her eyes flashing red.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Anytime she gets the slightest bit jealous, it can bring out her darker side and she'll become obsessed. Her problems with envy may even surpass Max's.
  • Harmless Freezing: Both she and her brother can use their Ice Breath for this.
  • Hero Protagonist: of the series.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Phoebe and Cherry have gone through ALOT together and they always have each other's back. Cherry is Phoebe's lively first best friend. Cherry almost found out about her powers and was the first non-supe to go inside the house. Cherry and Phoebe hang out a lot and do things together. Phoebe hated keeping her secret away from Cherry because she's her best friend. To save their friendship, Phoebe told Cherry her secret.
  • Hypocrite: She often (physically) punishes Max whenever he mocks or insults her (such as having her mathlette team sneeze on him after he said she wasn’t able to solve a math problem one to many times, or using her telekinesis to knock him away other times) yet she continually belittles and insults him.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Played With, she looks forward to being a hero and appreciates the perks her powers give her. But at the same time, she often is annoyed at the drawbacks her life causes, such as her need to keep secrets from her friends.
  • Insufferable Genius: She's smart and will brag about it a lot.
  • It's All About Me: She's conceited and will often will do whatever to get what she wants. Sometimes surpassing Max in this regard.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: Phoebe is a lot like her father.
  • Meaningful Name: Phoebe means "shining one" in Latin.
  • Modesty Shorts: She wears shorts over her pants, presumably to avoid Male Gaze over her butt.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She is a pretty teenaged girl who tends to wear outfits, such as her superhero suit, that show off her legs quite a bit.
  • Mind over Matter: Like her brother, Phoebe can move objects with her mind. Currently, limits to her power are not known (the most objects previously manipulated were three). With this power, she has been able to demonstrate multiple effects such from manipulating waves to stopping motion.
  • Nice Girl: Generally categorized by being sweet, friendly, and cheerful.
  • No Indoor Voice: She has a tendency to yell a lot.
  • Not So Above It All: She's not above antagonizing her brother and flaunting her success over him. Likewise, she has a bit of an ego.
  • Pride: As good a person as she is, Phoebe does have an ego. Her pride is generally her greatest flaw, as she will do things that normally she would be reluctant to, just to satisfy it. She also often feels the need to be the best at everything, and as such failures hit her pretty hard.
  • Photographic Memory: As revealed in Smells Like Team Spirit, Phoebe has a photographic memory which allows her to remember information or visual images in great detail even after seeing it for a very short time.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: The only trait Phoebe and Max share are their powers.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Max's Red
  • Secret Test of Character: In Evil Never Sleeps, the Hero League tested Phoebe's ability to make the right decisions as a superhero by having her choose between saving the world and turning over her boyfriend's dad, Mike Evilman. It was a tough choice for Phoebe but eventually, she chose to report Evilman even if that means breaking up with Link. She passed the test.
  • Super-Senses: The Thundersense, which gives Phoebe the ability to sense danger before it occurs. However, it is not always specific enough to tell what the danger is. She gained this ability before her brother did.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: She's trying to navigate having a social life, dealing with boys (she has a crush), friends, and hiding her superpowers, including freeze breath, telekinesis, and other fun stuff.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • She is afraid of Thunderman the Ride.
    • In "21 Dump Street", it's revealed that she's afraid of snakes.
  • Workaholic: After becoming a full-fledged heroine, Phoebe falls into saving the day so often that her social and family life suffers for it.

    Max Thunderman/Thunder Boy

Tropes:

  • Action Hero: If single-handedly taking on The Green Ghoul (one of the most powerful and dangerous ghosts, who only his father had ever beaten) while the ghoul also was possessing Phoebe and thus had access to all her powers (and as they have the same powers that means Max didn't have a hope of being close to equal) and not only surviving but bouncing back from the defeat doesn't qualify him, not much will.
    • Not only does Max stand up to Dark Mayhem but he defeats him. Something even his father couldn't do and Max is only sixteen.
  • Afraid of Needles: When Max sees a needle he faints.
  • Aloof Big Brother: To Billy and Nora.
  • Always Second Best: Often feels this way towards Phoebe.
  • Anti-Hero: Max gives up on evil, but doesn't want to be a goody-two shoes like Phoebe, so he settles on this.
  • Bad Influencer: Max takes up a career as a superhero influencer, but he ends up more concerned about how good his hair looks while he's saving the day over catching the villains he fights.
  • Badass Bookworm: He's highly intelligent and he can defiantly handle himself in a fight.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Enforced. Let's face it, he's just a kid who wants to evil but fails every time he tries. If anything, he's nothing more than a petty Jerkass.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Constant pranking, mocking, and humiliating aside, the moment anyone seriously endangers Phoebe or goes too far, he will always jump to her defense. The feeling is mutual.
    • While less commonly shown, attempts to hurt or humiliate his younger siblings (Billy, Nora, and Chloe) are a good way to provoke him. Such as his withdrawing his chance of selling a character to a videogame maker (despite all the money it could make him) and turning on him when he discovered he had set Billy and Nora up to fail.
  • Big Eater: Max is constantly eating and stealing other people's food.
  • Big Man on Campus: Subverted as Max thinks he's a much bigger deal at his school than he really is.
    • When he and Phoebe go back to their old grammar school to make up a 5th grade test, Max smugly says he'll be worshipped as a legend. Instead, no one (including the robots who have complete records on all students) has any idea who he is. Later, we find out he was a bully back then.
  • Bizarre Human Biology: He has an extra lobe in his brain for his superpowers.
  • Black Sheep: Max is a supervillain in a family of superheroes.
  • Brutal Honesty: Though Max lies a lot to stay out of trouble, when it comes to other things, he's brutally honest.
  • Butt-Monkey: Literally nothing ever goes right for the poor kid.
  • Breath Weapon: Just like his sister, Max has both Heat and Ice Breath.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Max is every bit as smart as his sister (academically) but prefers to slack off in class, and work on his inventions rather than study.
  • Chick Magnet: A lot of girls find him attractive, including one of Phoebe's best friends.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Including telekinesis, heat breath, ice breath, super intelligence, and super senses.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He often has something for nearly every situation. One episode reveals he actually has stuff prepared to disable and imprison the rest of his family.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: He could easily have a future of being a scientist or selling his inventions if he wasn't so worried about being evil.
  • Dance Battler: When fighting the Green Ghoul, Max proves he's incredibly agile and quick. Like his sister he often relies on his agility when in a fight.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Generally has a snarky response to anything that is going on.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the twins, he gets the second most focus.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Whenever Max likes a girl, he drops all his evil ambitions and only focuses on the relationship.
  • Driven by Envy: The whole reason he wants to be a supervillain is because he doesn't want to be a second best hero to his sister.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In "Thunderman Secret Revealed", Max finally gets back at his family for most of their unjustified treatment he revived.
  • Emo Teen: His earliest supervillain costume, seen only in the "formal" school pictures from the Superhero School they went to in the series' Back Story, exaggerates these tropes.
  • Evil Genius: Well he's certainly a genius, and he wants to be evil.
  • Evil Twin: Max is (or at least wants to be) this to Phoebe. As of Season 4, it's downplayed to Anti-Hero Twin.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: While not so impressive for the world he lives in, Max still has developed incredible technology, built in his own bedroom.
  • Guilt Complex: Anytime Max tries to do something evil he ends up feeling extreme guilt.
  • Harmless Villain: Max is more mouth than action and the "evil" things he does is just petty little things that any rebellious teenager would do. Generally his attempts at seriously evil things either fail or he feels too guilty to finish them.
  • Harmless Freezing: Both he and his sister can use their Ice Breath for this.
  • Hates Being Alone: In "Original Prankster" it's said Max has a fear of his family leaving him. What makes it worse is that he's actually prepared for it to happen.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Max gives up being a villain and becomes a hero even getting his cape.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: When Max does something kind for someone he usually says not to tell anyone because of his reputation.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Nobody is allowed to torment Max's siblings except Max.
  • I Just Want to Be Special
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Dr. Colosso who's even older than Hank.
  • Jerkass: He claims he is evil, but in reality, he's this. Even when he was younger, he bullied a kid in superhero elementary school, and that bit him years later.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For all his claims of being evil and being a supervillain, when it really matters he will always come through for his family.
  • Kiddie Kid: Usually acts his own age, but in the episode "Thundersense" he pretends to cry like a toddler when Barb is hesitant about getting him a very expensive computer. Needless to say, his fake crying works, because Barb hates seeing him sad.
Barb: Is there anything else you want? Like a hug?
Max: Actually, there is something I wanted to tell you. I'd like a 2,000 terabyte supercomputer with satellite connectivity.
    Barb: Two hugs?
Max: (about to "cry") I don't have my Thundersense...
    Barb: But, Max, uh-
Max: (fake crying) I don't have my Thundersense!
Barb: Oh! Okay, I'll get you a computer, okay? (hugs Max)
Max: (fake cries, then gives Dr. Colosso a thumbs up, then goes back to fake crying)
  • The Klutz: Max is a super-klutz who doesn’t always pay attention to his surroundings that he has plenty of butterfingers moments and easily falls victim to booby traps. He also tends to forget about pranks he set up until it’s too late and either he or his friends or family are on the receiving end of them.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Whenever Max does something wrong it ends up backfiring on him. Usually resulting in him being humiliated (sometimes greatly) or even physically injured. Sometimes to Disproportionate Retribution degrees.
    • When he chooses to steal Pheobes tickets to go with a girl he likes, he not only ends up not going (while she does) but he is pooped on by a bird, it becomes a meme on the internet, and he’s stuck in a portapotty as it gets knocked over.
    • When he decides to do a “ninja” job for a kids birthday party without Billy and Nora, he ends up with a broken arm and the mom refuses to pay him since he didn’t finish the performance (because he was beat up!). Then he gets laughed at his injury later by his siblings.
    • Also, that time where he drew on his father’s face with a marker when he was asleep. His FATHERS response isn’t to ground or scold him, but to knock Max out the same way and encourage the rest of the family to draw on Max’s face with him.
  • Mad Scientist: Has his own lab, builds rockets and doomsday devices, and is an unarguable genius.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Very good at getting others to do what he wants.
  • Meaningful Name: Max means "greatest" in Latin.
  • Mind over Matter: His main ability, like his sister he possesses quite powerful telekinesis.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Especially during the second season, the show likes to draw attention to Max's muscles.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Max hates having his "swoosh" messed with.
  • Nominal Hero: After deciding to give up evil, he's training to be a superhero and joining a special organization, but he's selfish, lazy, and a glory-monger.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He creates impressive machines, knows everything about chemistry and physics, seems to know multiple languages, and can solve complicated math problems in seconds. Yet for some reason he pretends (and possibly believes) he's stupid. He uses this to an extreme level, along with the fact that he's lazy. He once even was talking about scientific things his sister couldn't even understand.
  • The Prankster: Generally his only display that he's evil.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: The only trait Phoebe and Max share are their powers.
  • Pretty Boy: Perfect hair, long eyelashes, and full lips. He's definitely a pretty boy.
  • Real Name as an Alias: Max doesn't actually have a superhero or a supervillain alias. By the time he's a full-fledged hero, he's just known as Max.
  • Rebellious Spirit: His main demonstration of villainy. Even though he chose to be a hero, Max makes it clear he won't be a "goody-two shoes" hero.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Phoebe's Blue.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Max is the bad boy to Billy's kindhearted sensitive guy.
  • Spandex, Latex, or Leather: He wears a blue spandex super outfit like the rest of his family but often goes with a black leather jacket with his regular street clothes.
  • Stepford Snarker: The reason Max makes so many rude and sarcastic comments about others could easily be because he's somewhat insecure and hurt.
  • Supreme Chef: It turns out Max is a really great chef and he actually enjoys cooking.
  • The Un-Favourite: His parents (and apparently the entire superhero community) clearly prefer Phoebe. It's (at least partially) down to this that he wants to be a supervillain in the first place.
  • The Smart Guy: He is the one who usually comes ups with the plans when he and his siblings get in trouble.
  • Teen Genius: Has built doomsday devices, and turned a Venus flytrap into an unstoppable monster all before eighteen.
  • Tin Man: He usually shows no emotion and acts like he cares about nobody. He even states he's heartless. But multiple times through the series it's shown he has a warm heart.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: As the show has progressed, Max has gotten more aggressive and meaner.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In the season three finale, Max becomes a hero and it is set to stay that way for the rest of the series... maybe.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Subverted, he wants to be this but he never truly does anything heinous enough to qualify, at least nothing he didn't regret afterwards. After he decides to give up being evil, he's graduated to being a Nominal Hero.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Max fits this to a T.
  • Villain Protagonist
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Most of the reason he's in the supervillain phase is just for attention from his parents who obviously prefer Phoebe. Also, he seems to be kind of ignored and when his parents compliment him he gets pretty happy.
  • Wild Card: Max does get involved with other villains, but it's usually because he's seeking to get something for himself from them.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • He’s severely afraid of needles (Trypanophobia).
    • Also in the episode "Are You Afraid Of The Park" it's shown that he’s terrified of Thunderman the Ride.

    Nora Thunderman/Laser Girl

Tropes:

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: How her older siblings feel about her (not without reason) except Billy.
  • Big Sister Instinct:
    • Although initially unhappy that she would no longer be the baby of the family, Nora quickly grew into her big sister role, and is often seen to be very caring and protective of Chloe. In "Patch Me If You Can," Nora is devastated when she realizes that her carelessness with her eye-beams had nearly resulted in Chloe being severely hurt (or worse).
    • Nora is also like this toward Billy, despite her being the younger sibling. This is generally because Nora, as the smarter of the two, usually took on the "leader" role for the pair.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Nora really can be a brat.
  • Eye Beams: Up to date her only power.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: In "The Amazing Rat Race", Nora screams in supersonic decibels, shattering a glass, but this is the only time this power is shown for her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Nora is arrogant, bratty, and demanding, however she does truly love her family, and is especially close to Billy, who despite occasionally mocking, she happily acknowledges is her best friend.
  • Little Miss Badass: She's cute and young, but don't let that fool you.
    • Nora is the only character in the series to be seen unfreezing herself after Max and Phoebe freeze her and Billy in "The Neverfriending Story". Not even Evilman could break out nor could Phoebe when Max froze her.
  • Little Miss Snarker
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Nora's much tyrannical than her nicer brother Billy.
  • Never Bareheaded: She never takes off her trademark hairbow even once.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Sometimes, in all fairness to everyone, she can shoot lasers out of her eyes.

    Billy Thunderman/Kid Quick

Tropes:

  • Big Brother Instinct: Billy is very caring and protective of Chloe. He likely would be like this toward Nora as well, except that Nora, being so much smarter than Billy, is usually the one to take charge for them.
  • Blow You Away: He's able to create powerful tornadoes by rapidly spinning his arms.
  • Childhood Brain Damage: In "A Hero Is Born," Barb doesn't want Hank to fly her to the hospital while in labor to avoid repeating the last time they did so while subtly pointing in Billy's direction, indicating that she gave birth to him midair.
  • Childish Older Sibling: He's the older brother to Nora and Chloe, but considering he's not the sharpest knife in the door, he naturally acts a bit childish at times
  • The Ditz: Nearing Too Dumb to Live levels.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Billy is really not that bright, but he is incredibly a nice person, and possibly the friendliest member of the entire family (aside from possibly Chloe)
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Billy's much nicer than his tyrannical sister Nora.
  • Nice Guy: Probably the nicest of all the kids, even surpassing Phoebe. He has a very strong moral code, and will even bust his and Nora's plans at times.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Billy is the kindhearted sensitive guy to Max's bad boy.
  • Shout-Out: His superhero name is an obvious reference to Kid Flash.
  • Super-Speed: Up to date his only power.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: By the time of the later seasons, Billy's Too Dumb to Live levels seem to have increased up to the point where he literally has to write on his hand to remember his own family members’ names.

    Hank Thunderman/Thunderman

Tropes:

  • Action Dad: He's retired. However, Hank proves on occasion that, even though he's out of shape, he's still got it.
  • Acrofatic: Hank’s put on weight since his retirement and is acknowledged several times to have somewhat let himself go. However, he proves on several occasions that despite this he’s still deceptively quick and spry.
  • Archenemy: During his superhero days, his archenemy was Evilman, the only villain he could never beat (their fights would demolish whatever city they were in, and end in a tie). However after both he and his nemesis retired, many years later they more or less patched things up (after a big food fight).
  • Big Eater: If there's one thing you can count on Hank to always do, it's eat the most unhealthy foods.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: He grills anyone who wants to go out with Phoebe.
  • Bumbling Dad: Has shades of this, although he's still savvy enough to know that when you have four kids there is always a good reason to shout. Whether or not his wife is any better though, is debatable.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Thunderman... AWAY!!!"
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much of a Big Eater he is, even he was too disgusted to eat a plateful of chocolate-covered insects in "Up, Up, and Vacay." And found himself unable to swallow one.
  • Flying Brick: Capable of flying and extremely strong.
  • Happily Married: To Barb
  • Large Ham: Still hamming it up, into retirement.
  • One Head Taller: Than his wife.
  • Reluctant Retiree: Somewhat he voluntarily retired from crime fighting so his children could have a normal childhood, however he will leap at every half chance he gets and apparently still wears his suit under his clothes.
  • Retired Badass: He used to be a great superhero. Now he's out of shape and weaker, but he can still jump to call when needed. One stand out moment was when he was faced with three supervillains. Just one of those villains, King Crab, gave Phoebe a very tough fight. Hank Curbstomps all three and their mooks in under a minute.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He has quite the ego and thrives off people admiring him.
  • Sue Donym: His superhero name Thunder Man isn't really creative due to his last name already being Thunderman.
  • Super-Strength: Describes himself as the strongest man in the world and he can certainly back up that claim.
  • Strong and Skilled: One of the reasons he was considered such a great superhero, as well as being the strongest man in the world, Hank is also a master of hand-to-hand combat. He was the one who taught Max and Phoebe after all.
  • World's Strongest Man: Describes himself as this, and considering the only villain he could never defeat was Evilman, and all their fights ended in city-destroying ties, it's likely he wasn't joking.

    Barbara "Barb" Thunderman/Electress

Barb Thunderman

Click here to see Barb in her casual clothes

Barbara "Barb" Thunderman (née McBooger) is a retired superheroine from Metroburg formerly known by her superhero name, "Electress." She and Hank moved their family to Hiddenville in order to raise the kids and live a normal life.

Tropes:

  • Action Mom: Even if she's retired and wants to focus on a normal life, she's still an accomplished and veteran superheroine.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Certainly.
  • Battle Couple: She and Hank were partners in their days as superheroes.
  • Good Parents: She is a very committed mother. She loves and cares for each of her children deeply and is always around when needed.
  • My Beloved Smother: Has shown signs of this, such as panicking when she had to leave her children for one night.
  • Happily Married: To Hank.
  • Humble Hero: In contrast to her husband, despite her long and impressive superhero career, she never brings up her achievements or victories, instead focusing on her new life. To the point her children are surprised to discover just how awesome she used to be.
  • Lethal Chef: To the point her kids try and vandalize her cooking equipment.
  • Light 'em Up: As seen in multiple episodes, Barb is capable of generating, manipulating, and shaping light. Usually, she opens her palms and a light would appear from them. She can also change the size, intensity, etc. of the light with ease.
  • Lightning Lash: Electress has a super-charged electric whip that she used to fight criminals with as shown in Who's Your Mommy when Max accidentally sells the whip to a fan of Electress along with other Electress merchandise. When the whip is in the wrong hands, it could explode. Barb is easily capable of using her whip to subdue her enemies. With this, she is capable of controlling her whip with ease, allowing her to do anything she wants with it with willpower.
  • Pregnancy Makes You Crazy: Barb is cranky and she gets extremely aggressive when she is pregnant.
  • Reluctant Retiree: She is definitely more willing than her husband, however she still dresses up in her superhero costume and plays a motion capture superhero video game with her husband, while the children are at school. Apparently quite often.
  • Retired Badass: Just like her husband, she used to be an awesome hero, however now she's retired.
  • Ride the Lightning: Her power to teleport.
  • Shock and Awe: She wasn't a hero called "Electress" for nothing. Barb's primary ability is the ability to shape, create, and manipulate electricity. She is easily capable of controlling the intensity, direction, and amount of electricity that she generates allowing her to achieve various effects. She is seen using this ability multiple times during the series in different forms giving her a plethora of abilities such as electrokinetic teleportation, electrotechnical projection, etc.
  • Super-Senses: Barb has the ability to sense danger before it occurs, just like the rest of her family. However, it is not always specific enough to tell what the danger is.
  • Super-Speed: In Thundermans: Secret Revealed, Barb loses her powers when Max took them away. Upon restoration, she gets Billy's Super-Speed and uses it to fight the villains.
  • Teleportation: As seen in Who's Your Mommy, Barb is capable of moving from one place to another by just thinking about it. When using this ability, it appears as a lighting storm generates and disappears and moves her to another location where another lightning storm generates and disappears. This is similar to Chloe's full teleportation power, however, she teleports much more effortlessly and a little faster as well.

  • Character Catchphrase: "[some random subject], baby!"; lampshaded by Max at the beginning of "Z's All That".

  • Girlish Pigtails: She's seen with these all the time given her youthfulness. Once she's older by The Thundermans Return, she no longer has them.
  • Little Miss Snarker: But is a lot more light-hearted than Nora.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Not only are superhero pregnancies very quick, but their children age very rapidly; her suddenly aging from a newborn to a one or two-year-old in seconds is the first sign of Cherry realizing Phoebe was not lying about her identity as Thundergirl. Maya Le Clark was four years old when she first appeared as Chloe, in "Phoebe vs. Max: The Sequel," only three months after the character was born.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: She is added to the title sequence as of Season 3.
  • Teleportation: Her only power.

Clone Colosso is in the real Dr. Colosso's cage, and he believes that he's a donkey that moos.

  • Sealed Evil in a Teddy Bear: Hank defeated him by turning him into a bunny rabbit.
  • Spanner in the Works: He becomes this to Candi Falconman, when she tries to brainwash Hiddenville. He alerts Max & Phoebe and pretends to have sided with Candi so he can free them from her trap.

  • Satellite Love Interest: Has no role outside of being Phoebe's boyfriend, if he isn't in the episode he's never even mentioned.
  • Super-Strength: In "Gimme A Break-Up," Link pries open the doors to an elevator shaft, and then grabs and holds the falling elevator. He doesn't even seem particularly tired by the effort.
  • White Sheep: His father is the former Supervillain Evilman, Link meanwhile is a pretty nice guy, much to his father's displeasure.

    Oyster
Actor: Tanner Stine
  • Brainless Beauty: Even Phoebe fell for him initially, however he's dumb as mud.
  • The Ditz: Was easily duped into believing the Thundermans had moved, and then believed it when another note pushed out from under the door said they would be moving back the next day.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: He's not really that bright, but he will occasionally notice things about Max and Phoebe's secret, such as their baby sister growing too fast or there being man-shaped holes in their roof. Fortunately, he's easily distracted.
  • Gasshole: He gains super burps in The Thundermans Return.

    Super President Kickbutt
Actor: Daniele Gaither

    Blobbin
  • Big Eater: Hence why he's so big.
  • Feel No Pain: Part of his power, it's impossible to physically hurt him.
  • Fiction500: Is incredibly wealthy due to his uncle, the All American Blob leaving him all his money.
  • Nice Guy: Is constantly cheerful, friendly, and generous.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: His power is that pretty much nothing can damage him. Billy's Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs and Nora's laser beams just bounce off his chest, while a cannonball hitting him in the chest doesn't even grab his immediate attention.
  • Prone to Tears: He may be indestructible on the outside, but on the inside, he's a complete mess.
  • Uncle Pennybags: Well cousin in this case.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Downplayed, being a nice guy he would never misuse his fortune, but he's not above using it to open doors.
  • Sidekick: Used to be one to Barb's uncle, the All American Blob, before he died.

    Gideon
Actor: Kenny Ridwan
  • Casanova Wannabe: Every one of his attempts to flirt always go horribly wrong. Despite this, he never stops trying.
  • Ditzy Genius (Zigzagged): Sometimes Gideon can be very nerdy when it comes to certain school subjects on some occasions, but yet when it comes to basic common sense in other situations, he can be very dumb and quite an airhead.
  • Pair the Spares: Phoebe and Max eventually set him up with Sarah, who's much more appreciative of his lack of boundaries.
  • Stacy's Mom: Gideon has a huge crush on Phoebe and Max's mom and he's not ashamed to make it quite obvious sometimes, although he will calm down and pull it back when the other characters let him know he's making them uncomfortable talking about it.
  • Red Right Hand: He gets a literal iron fist in The Thundermans Return.

    Principal Bradford
Actor: Jeff Meacham
  • Badass Teacher: Secretly holds illegal wrestling matches in the school after hours. Of which he is the champion, he's also good enough to take both Max and Phoebe on a fight (remembering that even without their powers, both have taken on actual supervillains in a fight).
  • Dean Bitterman: The only part of the job he enjoys is making his students, especially Max, miserable.
  • Hulking Out: He gets this power in The Thundermans Return. He calls himself "The Blue Hunk".
  • Jaded Washout: Isn't happy with how his life turned out.
  • Jerkass: Is not a nice man, just because he openly hates his job, and quite possibly his life.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While he obviously mostly brings his miserly on himself due to his lack of care of school and him enjoying torturing his own students. He's not 100% wrong The Thundermans have ruined his life at least to some extent from being the main Butt-Monkey of Max's Pranks at school to getting an arrow and a spider bite in his toe due to Phoebe and Max arguing to getting his ponytail removed against his free will by Nora's laser.
  • Perpetual Frowner: It's obvious enough to know that he's grumpy, bossy, and miserable in a fair amount of episodes. He's mean to the other characters, is always in a terrible mood, finds things to be either boring or annoying, offensive or disapproving, and makes it his business to tell people so. It's also very clear and really technical to note that he's certainly and definitely little to no laughing, giggling, or smiling matter whatsoever, and by the looks of it, he never will be, except when he's shown to be very sadistic and sarcastic, sometimes even to a little mixture of both. On top of that, he even has a coffee mug with a "no smiling" sign to prove it.
  • Lazy Bum: Holds no interest in school matters, and prefers to relax and play golf.
  • Sadistic Teacher: For starters he makes people in detention wear orange jumpsuits and chains.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After Max and Phoebe graduated, he was able to turn his life around and become a Cool Teacher... and then Billy and Nora enrolled, causing him to relapse.

    Mrs. Wong
Actor: Helen Hong
  • Asian Rudeness: Seems incapable of going more than a few sentences without insulting someone.
  • Card-Carrying Jerkass: She'll eagerly admit she doesn't have a soul whenever she does something mean-spirited.
  • Child Hater: Hates all teenagers, including Phoebe and Max
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: She gets the ability to turn into a purple tornado in The Thundermans Return.
  • Lethal Chef: Her food is barely edible, and she quite happily admits that its often been left over for a long time.
  • Mean Boss: To Max, Phoebe, and Cherry when they get jobs working for her.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: To the entire Thunderman family. She's had antagonistic plots against all seven members in different episodes.

    Allison
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Insult her and her beliefs, and she will make you regret it with words alone.
  • Nice Girl: She's generally a nice person and cares a lot about the environment.
  • Put on a Bus: She leaves the show partially into Season 4 and in return, breaks up with Max.
  • Satellite Love Interest: Basically besides the episode "Floral Support" her only purpose is being Max's love interest. Interestingly enough, Ryan Newman was Jack Griffo's real-life girlfriend.
  • Self-Proclaimed Love Interest: Played With. Initially, she believes Max is her boyfriend, even when he doesn't realize it, eventually he decides to be her boyfriend anyway.
