Mizaki School

Masatoki Kuzuryu, the Principal of Mizaki School
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_chara_masatoki.png
"Quite the eventful trip to school, it seems?"
The Principal of Mizaki School. Looks like no ordinary elderly man, and is not. He actually is a ninja with a list of heroic episodes, but has retired and engages in running a school. Loves to admire cute things like fluffy animals.
  • Badass Teacher: Is still capable of performing powerful Earth-element ninjutsu at his age, such as moving stone blocking a cave entrance, although it takes a lot of his strength.
  • Big Good: If the Ninja Seeking Club ever encounters a major problem, he's often able to lend his support.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's an elderly trained ninja that's very supportive of his students.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Has access to Earth-based ninjutsu, albeit old age makes it hard to use in the present. His granddaughter Ran inherits this trait.
  • Doting Parent: Doting grandfather towards Ran in RPG.
  • Fiction 500: Contrary to his humble appearance and background, the Principal is LOADED if his granddaughter's spending habits and manor are of any indication.
  • For Want Of A Nail: His sudden disappearance is responsible for kickstarting the various divergences in the RPG storyline: Kazuki doesn't become a Ronin Ninja and is sent Mizaki to investigate alongside Oka, Yozuki is the foreign transfer student instead of John and later on the founder of the Ninja Seeking Club, his grand-daughter Ran becomes involved in the investigation and befriends Kazuki as a result, the Nine-tailed Fox never gets released, Obnubi remains an honest ninja corporation, and Kikuko joins the party 5 Seasons early in order to assist Kazuki and Oka with their investigation.

    Kikuko Hattori

Click for Ninja Look
Voiced by: Yu Ayase (Japanese)
The leader of Mizaki School's student council. Coincidentally, she was also Kazuki's instructor from his ninja days.
  • Ascended Extra: From an occasional mentor in the original release, to a member of the main cast in RPG.
  • Closet Geek: She has a hidden room within the school dedicated entirely to hot anime/game guys.
  • Eccentric Mentor: She was Kazuki's ninjitsu teacher, and willingly trains the Ninja Seeking Club to harness their powers, but also plays video games all night and munches on candy.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Her left eye is always covered up. Season 14's conclusion reveals she was swiped in the face by Ryujin's claws, and when the wound recovered with the dragon's blood, it gained the power of light.
  • Gamer Chick: She sneaks into the school at night to play confiscated video games.
  • Hypocrite: She often encourages practices that she personally lacks any skill in. For example, the Myu ending of Season 4 has her encourage the girl to learn how to swim in case it could be a liability in battle...but when questioned about whether she can swim herself, she flees the area.
  • Older Than They Look: Is actually in her 80s, despite posing as an "eternally moe" student. Season 14 reveals she and her sister are actually a millennium older, having been actual teenagers saved by Kashin before they were all exposed to the Ryujin's blood.
Head of Student Council: It is but a number. To borrow a phrase from you young folk, I am... A delicious loli, no?
  • Sixth Ranger: Though she never officially joins the Ninja Seeking Club, her mentorship and close bonds with its members can lead to her feeling insulted when not considered part of the team. Becomes a full fledged member in RPG.
  • Troll: Her "training" often comes across as personal amusement rather than actually bettering her pupils, such as when she sabotages the team during an athletics festival to keep it a fair competition.

    Homeroom Teacher
The unnamed and unpopular homeroom teacher for Kazuki's class. After an accidental injury, he's replaced for a few seasons by Suzu.
  • No Name Given: His actual name is never stated by anyone.
  • Staircase Tumble: In Season 20, while making a New Year's prayer at Dorobune Shrine, he slipped on the icy stairs and ends up hospitalized, leading to Suzu filling in for him.
  • 0% Approval Rating: None of his students actually like him, to the point that he's overjoyed when Kazuki delivers some paperwork to his hospital room because it's the first visitor he's had since the injury.

    Suzu Sagisawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_miss_suzu.png
A substitute teacher at Mizaki, filling in after Kazuki's regular teacher accidentally falls down some stairs.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: In her very first appearance, she stubs her foot on a semi-open door, drops the attendance sheets, and then bangs her head on the head desk while picking them back up, knocking her glasses off in the process.

Obnubi

    Naganobu Saion-ji / Tycoon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naganobu_saionji.png
Enju Saion-ji’s grandfather, and the Tycoon of the Obnubi organization, which Enju, Lily, and Tengge are members of (and which Masatoki Kuzuryu was a former member of).
  • Abusive Parents: Implied to have had his own daughter executed for working against him. And he is definitely not above having his men attack and disable his "precious granddaughter" Enju for refusing to cooperate.
  • Adaptational Heroism: The Tycoon in RPG is running a legitimate business acumen with Obnubi without any of the shadiness and is a doting grandfather for Enju, albeit he is still an asshole to Kazuki.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Book of Obnubi (Seasons 7-8 of the original visual novel).
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Attempts to defeat the Ninja Seeking Club first with Zina's weapon, which is powered by the remnants of the Nine-Tailed Fox, and then by absorbing the Fox's power into himself. The latter ends up literally consuming his soul.
  • Evil Old Folks: He had his agents infiltrate Crow since its founding, with the plan to use their technology for his own malevolent goals.
  • He Knows Too Much: The Virtual Ghost version of him gets hacked into and fried before revealing the truth behind an incident involving Obnubi technology.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Under his orders, Obnubi has integrated into modern society, with its headquarters masked as a corporation and its members dressed in business suits.
  • Killed Off for Real: His soul is devoured by the Nine-Tailed Fox's spirit.
  • Old Master: He's said to be the most powerful member of Obnubi, in addition to leading it.
  • People Puppets: Can use his electricity powers to control people's bodies and minds.
  • Shock and Awe: One of the only two ninjas capable of naturally wielding electricity, with the other being Enju.
  • Virtual Ghost: In Season 11, the club restores a digital hologram of him that possesses its own AI based on the original, in order to try and learn who's behind the doppelganger incidents that involve Obnubi tech (and also so Lily can get some closure after nearly being sacrificed by him). However, as He Knows Too Much, he ends up hacked into and permanently short-circuits before revealing the likely culprit.
  • War for Fun and Profit: His ultimate goal is to make sure that there will always be a place for ninja in the world, first by modernizing them, and then by instigating conflicts they can be used in.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Blasts Zina and the Ninja-Seeking Squad with Zina's own weaponry once it's powered up, though he assumes Lily will willingly give her life to shield his granddaughter Enju.

    Zina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zina_4.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
The second-most powerful member of the Obnubi organization, behind the Tycoon himself. She is also the leader of Crow, a secret ninja organization.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Crow has yet to make an appearance in RPG, so Zina is established to be a hardworking employee in Obnubi's R&D department and ally to the Ninja Seeking Club, specifically to Cy.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Red hair and red eyes.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Started the Crow as a way to take down Obnubi's Tycoon, considering any innocent causalities along the way to be worth it.
  • Grand Theft Prototype: A scene with Enju before her appearance hints that the rings used by the Crow are based on technology that Enju's mother was developing. It's later revealed, alongside Cy's true nature, that Enju's mother may have been willingly working with her.
  • Hair Wings: It's never explained why, but she has a pair of red wings in her hair.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Naganobu betrays her and steals her technology, she continuously pops up throughout the next season to help the Ninja Seeking Club. Post-arc, she moves in next to Akari's house and occasionally pops up as an aloof ally.
  • The Man Behind the Man: During the Nine-Tailed Beast arc, the Student Council Head identifies a ring used by one of Ikiru's goons that amplifies innate ninja arts as being created by Crow. It's later revealed that the beast's blood and Ikiru herself is vital to Crow's plans.
  • Master Poisoner: One of the technologies Crow has developed under her guidance is a poison made from the blood of the Nine-Tailed Fox and distributed via jellyfish chocolate, capable of incapacitating regular humans and outright killing ninja.
  • The Mole: In her first named appearance, it's clear she's commanding members of Crow while pretending to still be loyal to Obnubi.
  • Promotion to Parent: After Obnubi is dealt with and her organization disbanded, she moves in next to the Hanao family and raises Cy like an ordinary girl.
  • Red Baron: Her title in Obnubi is "The Empress".
  • Statuesque Stunner: Stands at 5'9"/176cm tall and quite beautiful.

    Kirino Saion-ji
Enju's mother, gone missing without a trace while working for Obnubi.
  • Missing Mom: There's no indication that she's even alive in the present, as it's heavily implied that she got on Naganobu's bad side. At least, until she's stated to be an employee of MEA.

    Hanna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanna_28tcy29.jpg
A freelance ninja who joins the reformed Obnubi during the events of TCY. Despite always looking a tad angry, she seems particularly antsy when working with Tengge...who, in an attempt by their superiors to get them to bond, she's currently living with.
  • Kid from the Future: Near the end of TCY Season 3, she briefly refers to Tengge as "Mom", revealing to the player that she's the same Hanna from Tengge's Epilogue, all grown up and having time-travelled to the past.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: When Tengge asks about the bonds Hanna has made and who she fights for, Hanna admits to being the oldest of multiple brothers and sisters. The TCY Season 4 Epilogues show that they all have different mothers, but Kazuki is the sole father.
  • Saying Too Much: She almost gets into trouble when she states that Johnny's current girlfriend is the siren he rescued in "International Ninja Clash!" before he had the chance to actually reveal that to the rest of the group. However, she successfully bluffs that Zina informed her about that when debriefing her on the Ninja Seeking Club, rather than reveal that she has knowledge of the future.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: She ultimately fails to prevent Kazuki accepting Amatsu-Mikaboshi's divinity, which would later lead to him needing to be sealed, which is why she time-travelled in the first place; in fact, because Fausta used her as a hostage when summoning Amatsu-Mikaboshi so Kazuki couldn't interrupt her, she's partially responsible for it.

    Toya Kunitachi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_tcy_kunitachi.jpg
His TCY appearance
Debuting in RPG, Toya was an artistic student attending Mizaki School who was ultimately directly involved in the overarching plot. However, he also appears in The College Years Season 4, as a researcher employed by Obnubi after being recommended by Mitsuo Nokizaru.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In TCY, he's still the god Kuni-no-Tokotachi, but is genuinely working with Obnubi and the Ninja Seeking Club in order to protect this dimension from a Ragnarok caused by other gods.
  • Art Attacker: In RPG Season 7, he transforms a written sentence about being shot into actual bullets he fires at "Paifer", AKA MEA Agent Johnny.
  • God in Human Form: His true identity is Kuni-no-Tokotachi, one of the first three divinities.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: In RPG Season 7, he's revealed to be the mastermind of all prior events, having directly influenced all past villains.
  • Meaningful Name: His name has some notable similarities to that of Kuni-no-Tokotachi, his godly true form.
  • Necromancer: In RPG Season 7, he's capable of reviving people with art like Yamabuki can, but has better control over the power, allowing him to summon Hibiki, Setsuna's grandfather, and other strong ninja as his personal minions.
  • Restart the World: In RPG Season 7, his motivation is simply being unhappy with the current state of the planet, so he's trying to wipe out humanity and create a new world.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: In RPG Season 7, once all his summoned warriors are defeated, he simply warps away in a burst of cherry blossoms to try again another day, with his civilian identity of "Toya" said to have transferred schools.
  • Walking Spoiler: His role in the final season of RPG completely redefines his character.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: In the Normal Epilogue of The College Years Season 4, he outright states he isn't capable of loving others.

Ochatomizu School

    Hotaru Kokonohi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotaru_full.png
A student from Ochatomizu high school, Mizaki school's all-girls' sister school. Despite her demeanor, she's also the shrine maiden of Dorobune Shrine. She is also the first girl not attending Mizaki that Kazuki can have a paired ending with.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She made occasional appearances in the epilogues of Seasons before her official debut, usually identified as "Valley Girl".
  • Honorary True Companion: Hotaru is a member of the Ninja Seeking Club in all but name, since she is a recurring ally that hangs out with them on a daily basis since her debut despite attending a different school and is even crucial in the plot of several seasons.
  • Miko: Her main job, which includes knowledge of both the supernatural and how to exorcise them.
  • Sixth Ranger: Although she doesn't even attend the same school as the Ninja Seeking Club, she quickly befriends its members, and her knowledge of the supernatural allows her to help with their ninja duties. She officially joins the True Ninja Seeking Squad in Season 3 of The College Years.
  • Super Mode: In TCY Season 4, she fully attunes with the spirit of the mystic mirror Yata no Kagami, granting her an outfit change and the power to summon beams of light that instantly purify Fausta's Malus minions.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the intervening years between the original volume and TCY, she underwent rigorous training (including Meditating Under a Waterfall), and now has the spiritual strength to dispel enemy ninjitsu.
  • Valley Girl: Has this form of speaking.
  • Visual Development: Her new appearance for The College Years has her hair tips dyed pink, whereas most other returning characters either grew their hair out or styled it differently.

    YTG8
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_ytg10.png
From left to right: Kirara, Futaba, and Sena
A group of Idol Singers. Although the group supposedly consists of multiple members, only the main three ever receive story focus.
  • Ascended Extra: They have a combined ending in Season 22.5, an honor usually only for Ninja Seeking Club members (including honorary member Hotaru).
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In Season 17, Kirara, Futaba, and Sena are revealed to be the sidekicks of the Yatagarasu Assassin, but only because of an illusion cast on them by their teacher.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In the "Arcade" branch of the "A Day in the Life" spin-off story, Futaba asks Ricka and various other girls from the Ninja Seeking Club to help YTG8 pick some outfits for an audition. In the "Moe" ending, the outfits are a success...but the project they auditioned for required their real identities, which they can't reveal without violating Ochatomizu's rules.
  • The Dividual: It is incredibly rare to see any of the main three without the other two, to the point that they share an ending in Season 22.5.
  • Idol Singer: Their (secret) career.
  • Living a Double Life: Due to Ochatomizu's views on fraternization with men, Kirara, Futaba, and Sena have to keep their roles in YTG8 a secret from most of their peers.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Neither of the 3 seem to have a high opinion of Kazuki, though there's some improvement after Season 22.5. However, they all love "Araya", his secret cross-dressing identity used when visiting Ochatomizu because of its gender restrictions.
  • Open Secret: Towards the end of Season 22.5, Venus openly reveals their identities as YTG8 to the Mizaki and Ochatomizu students, and convinces both student bodies to help keep it a secret from the teachers, who would likely expel them for breaking school rules.

    Venus Otomegawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/venus_otomegawa.jpg
The insanely rich Student Council President of Ochatomizu high school.
  • Hidden Depths: She eventually reveals that she's actually quite knowledgeable about ninja society, as Nine Transtech (managed by the head of Kuki Village) helped construct her personal resort and cruise ship, and her own family's business supplies Hijiri's clan with airships and other technology.
  • It's All About Me: Exemplified in Season 22, when she crafts a trophy for the winner of an inter-school Battle Royale that looks just like her, is eager to claim it for herself after said competition is considered a draw, and is then so devastated by the trophy accidentally shattering that her entire portrait goes grey. Season 22.5 has her organize a rematch during the inter-school vacation, with an even larger crystal trophy that depicts herself as a mermaid, which receives a similar shattering end.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Her regular hairstyle, as well as attitude.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: She prefers to solve her problems by flaunting her wealth and status, without realizing how her attitude makes for a horrible first impression.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: In Season 22.5, she reveals to YTG8 that she's known their true identities since they began.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Also in Season 22.5, the reason she didn't report YTG8, despite being Student Council President of a school that would disapprove of their double life, is because she didn't want to ruin their dreams.
  • Uncle Pennybags: Self-centeredness aside, she freely and frequently shares her wealth with others, funding frequent luxury vacations for both Ochatomizu and Mizaki students.

    Sebastian the Butler
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_sebastian.jpg
Venus' elderly butler.
  • Battle Butler: During the chaos of Season 30, it turns out he's the head of a defense group Venus calls the Butler Batallion.
  • Given Name Reveal: Although he's frequently addressed as Sebastian, it's revealed in Season 30 that his true name is Jinkuro Sebasu.
  • The Jeeves: He serves as a perfectly upstanding attendant to Venus' needs.
  • Old Friend: Season 30 reveals he's actually old friends with Derringer of MEA.

    Meido
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mei_52.jpg
Venus' youthful maid. In The College Years, she's also Ricka's instructor at "Saint Venus' Women's University", and her boss at a Maid Cafe that Venus also owns.
  • All Part of the Show: At the Maid Cafe, when Ricka ends up taking down a belligerent customer that was insulting a coworker, she successfully convinces the other customers that it was all a planned show.
  • Given Name Reveal: Up until Season 30, whenever she appeared, her dialogue box labeled her as "Frilly Moe Maid".
  • Ninja Maid: During the chaos of Season 30, it turns out she's the head of a defense group Venus calls the Maid Brigade.
  • Punny Name: "Meido" ("Mei" for short) is phonetically similar to her job of "Maid".

    Mashiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mashiro_8.jpg
A girl with a bit of a wild side, and a member of the Iboro ninjas, first met when she's injured and hides under the Dorobune shrine. After the Ninja Seeking Club help her, she becomes one of Hotaru's friends, staying at her shrine and attending Ochatomizu as an emissary of her clan.
  • The Beastmaster: Her howling in werebeast form has the power to command other animals to do her bidding.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Dankichi attempts to gain control of her when the club visits the zoo, but she's able to overcome the mind-control potion he uses on her.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Tiny ones can be seen in her mouth.
  • Fighting Your Friend: During the climax of Season 21, she's forced to fight against "Scarface", a formerly-crybaby Iboro ninja her age that was twisted into a berserk beast by Dankichi.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Her true form, and an inherit power of her clan, the Iboro. It is mostly the same as her human appearance, but with wolf ears and a tail.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: When the Club take her to visit the zoo, it turns out she can communicate with animals, even foreign beasts like lions.

    Setsuna Tojo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/setsuna_tojo.jpg
The ace of Ochatomizu's kendo club, and heir of a local dojo, though its reputation has dwindled ever since a challenger was defeated and permanently injured her father as revenge.
  • The Atoner: Willingly contributes to the fight against Yatagarasu because she wants to atone for her actions when Sendo manipulated her.
  • Born Unlucky: When the Ninja Seeking Club offer to let her "challenge" them for food when she refuses to just accept a handout, she somehow loses rock-paper-scissors 99 times in a row.
  • Demonic Possession: During the climax of Season 22, the spirit of the Maguy takes hold of her after Kazuki's blood is spilled in combat. Thankfully, it's movements are more forceful and less strategic than Setsuna's, allowing Kazuki to knock the sword out of her hands and return Setsuna to normal.
  • Fatal Flaw: The Tojo family's Honor Before Reason tendencies come very close to killing them; her father was too prideful to admit the true cause of his injury, and Setsuna was so focused on regaining the family's honor that she fell for Sendo's scheming. Then, when she learns the truth, she attempts to commit Seppuku before the Ninja Seeking Club stop her.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She's the "slasher samurai" mentioned early in The Book of Rival Blades, but ends up swapping sides after learning how she was deceived by Sendo.
  • Honor Before Reason: Setsuna's father encourages her to live by a strict code of honor, which includes not accepting any hand-outs even when they're starving...but winning food in a game of rock-paper-scissors, even when it's blatantly obvious that the Club is trying to rig things in Setsuna's favor, is perfectly acceptable.
  • Idiot Ball: She's so blinded by revenge (a drive at least partially influenced by the sword Sendo gave her) that, when told that Kazuki is to blame for her father's injury, she completely ignores all evidence of the contrary (such as her father not recognizing Kazuki when he first visited their house).
  • It's Personal: The reason she became the "slasher samurai" attacking retired ninja is because she was informed by Sendo that a ninja was responsible for crippling her father. However, while she does make them bleed, she refuses to outright kill while on her quest for vengeance.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Soon after first meeting her, the Club learns that she lives in a very small house, and that she has to take part-time jobs because her ill father is only capable of selling paper umbrellas for 200 yen. She's only able to attend Ochatomizu via scholarship.
  • Poor Communication Kills: A lot of Setsuna's initial antagonism could have been averted if her father told her the truth: that his injury was actually a self-inflicted accident, but he was too proud to admit it.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: As the "slasher samurai", despite leaving her targets wounded and heavily bleeding, she avoided trying to take a life until she confronted the person she thought had wounded her father...and even then, she wasn't entirely in control of herself.

    Hijiri Utagawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hijari_utagawa.jpg
One of Hotaru's classmates, who is actually a ninja from Negoro Village.
  • Ascended Extra: In The College Years, she's one of the eight candidates for an arranged marriage with Kazuki, and a member of the Real Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Catchphrase: She tends to compliment things she enjoys by saying "It's so punk rock!"
  • Last Episode, New Character: She's one of the various new characters introduced in Season 30, the final season of the original story, though she has made subsequent appearances in Spin-Offs and The College Years.
  • Metalhead: Although her ninja garb and instrument of choice don't indicate this, her preferred musical tastes and usual outfit of a black leather jacket show off her true passions.
  • Musical Assassin: Her "weapon" of choice is a Biwa, a short-necked lute.
  • Nightmare Face: When asked to play rock-and-roll or heavy metal with her Biwa to empower her allies, her expression turns wide-eyed and manic, thoroughly embracing it.

Villains

    Assassin
A ninja from Ricka and Kazuki's village, sent in Season 2 to kill Ricka for her failure. Briefly shows up again in Season 3 to try and get revenge, after his first defeat led to his banishment, and again in Season 6 as one of the Owner's hired goons. And then again in Season 12, in another revenge attempt unconnected to the season's main issue.
  • The Faceless: He does not have his own character sprite.
  • Goldfish Poop Gang: A one-man version, who keeps showing up only to get trounced almost immediately.
  • No Name Given: He has yet to reveal his name despite his repeated appearances.
  • Starter Villain: The first major threat to Kazuki's peaceful school life, unless you count Ricka.

    Strong-Looking Ninja
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_strong_looking_ninja.png
A ninja that works as a bodyguard. First encounters the protagonists in Season 3 when the Assassin hires him as back-up for his revenge plan. They cross paths again in Seasons 5 and 6, when the (Former) Owner hires him.
  • Back for the Finale: While he doesn't make another appearance in the main story after his rematch, he finally shows up one last time in Akari Hanao's Epilogue.
  • The Dragon: Ends up becoming the last obstacle the Ninja Seeking Club have to face before fighting Ikill and the Nine-Tailed Fox.
  • Expy: A ninja who can't use ninjutsu, and an honorable, hot-blooded soul determined to fight powerful opponents to prove that hard work can trump natural talent? If this guy had a real portrait, you can guarantee he'd have Rock Lee's bowl cut and body suit.
  • The Faceless: Did not have a character sprite in his first appearance, and appears as a silhouette in his second.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Is incapable of performing any ninja arts, and so instead trained his sword technique.
  • Nature Versus Nurture: The Strong-Looking Ninja considers himself the "Nurture" to Kazuki's "Nature", given the latter both inheriting the Kamui and being capable of ninjitsu.
  • No Name Given: At no point does he properly introduce himself, even when allied with the Book of Nine-Tails' main villains.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He keeps being hired by the enemies.
  • Worthy Opponent: Treats Kazuki with respect and admires his spirit, even though he keeps being hired by the enemies.

    Owner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moe_ninja_girls_chairman.png
The man that owns Mizaki School. He plans to use the facility for ill intent, but is initially thwarted by the principal. Is fired at the end of Season 4, but continues to be a nuisance for the rest of the story arc.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Book of Nine-Tails (Seasons 4 through 6), alongside his Secretary
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Provides the resources necessary for Ikiru's plans to succeed, and early on goes after the Ninja Seeking Club himself.
  • Dodgy Toupee: Wears one during his earliest appearances.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's never called anything other than (Former) Owner.
  • Idiot Hair: Save for his sideburns, he only has one gravity-defying hair.
  • Killed Off for Real: Towards the end of the Arc, he's betrayed by his Secretary and gets eaten by the unsealed Nine-Tailed Fox.
  • The Lost Lenore: His motivation for acquiring the Nine-Tailed Fox's power is that the Secretary said it could revive his departed wife.
  • No Name Given: His actual name is never mentioned.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Loses his job when he attempts to bulldoze the on-campus warehouse the Ninja Seeking Club use as their base without a permit, or authorization, and while members of said Club are directly in front of him

    Ikiru Kokonobi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moe_ninja_girls_secretary.png
Click for Ninja Look
The Owner's Secretary, who has ties with Tengge and the Obnubi organization.
  • Arc Villain: Of Seasons 4 through 6, AKA the Book of Nine-Tails, alongside the Owner
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: She's calling the shots during the Book of Nine-Tails, but she requires the Owner's cash to succeed.
  • Dangerous Deserter: Is a ronin ninja like the main character, but rather than seek a life of normalcy, she wants to wipe out all ninja with the power of the Nine-Tailed Fox.
  • Empathic Weapon: The Crescent Moon Fan chose her as its owner.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Believes she's capable of controlling the Nine-Tailed Fox and will use its power for her own goals. Although she controls it at first, having come from a bloodline capable of doing so, it eventually goes as well as one would expect; her body nearly tears apart at the seams when she tries to borrow its power to heal herself.
  • He Knows Too Much: A key part of her backstory; Ikiru hates ninjas because her mother was executed after being ordered to make the Nine-Tailed Fox attack her allies, in order to make it look uncontrollable and discourage government forces from using the beast in their wars.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Can inflict this on opponents with her giant Crescent Moon Fan, making them forget battles against her and giving her an upper hand in rematches.
  • The Man in Front of the Man: It's made clear in Season 5 that, though she works for the Owner, she's stringing him along with the promise of the Nine-Tailed Fox's power in order to use his connections to unseal it and take the power herself.
  • Meaningful Name: She's first introduced as "Ikill", and her mission in life is to kill ninja. It later turns out that Ikill is a Meaningful Rename, but her original name of "Ikiru" (which means "to live") was chosen by her mother, who wanted her "to live" and grow strong despite all of the hardships of ninja life.
  • Memory Gambit: When she was young, Ikiru promised her mother not to seek vengeance. But she was so consumed by hatred that she allowed the Crescent Moon Fan to seal away that memory, becoming Ikill, a ninja slayer that no longer felt guilt at getting her revenge.
  • Memory Jar: The memories her fan takes from opponents aren't erased, but instead turned into stones in an inconspicuous shrine near a tourist trap. Someone touching the stone with their name on it regains their memory.
  • Metaphorically True: She claims that the Nine-Tailed Fox being able to revive the dead is an "alternative fact". When she told the Owner it could reunite him with his dead wife, she actually meant by killing him.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: She gets abducted by the Crow after her initial defeat to control a weapon powered with parts of the Nine-Tailed Fox.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After the Crow/Obnubi mech is destroyed, she regains consciousness and flees the scene, with nobody bothering to search for her after.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: She commands the Nine-Tailed Fox to devour the Owner after it is unsealed.

    Tamamo / Nine-Tailed Fox
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_nine_tailed_fox.jpg
Its Pre-Awakened Form
An ancient beast which dark forces wish to reawaken.
  • Gender Flip: In RPG, they're identified as a male named Doman Ashiya, while in the main visual novel, the Nine-Tailed Fox is only referred to as "he" until it's revealed to be a "she" in Season 29.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When Kashin awakens Ryujin, the Ninja Seekers decide to tame her spirit and form an alliance to defeat the dragon.
  • Interspecies Romance: According to her personal account, in the ancient past, she once fell in love with a human, and even took on a human form in order to court him. Unfortunately, he was already in love with someone else, so she used dark magic to drive him insane.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: The Ninja Seeking Club express shock when they learn the Nine-Tailed Fox's real name and gender in Season 29, claiming that she had looked rather rugged.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: She was sealed underneath the school by a previous wielder of the Kamuy. Part of her spirit is later sealed into a scroll after the Obnubi Tycoon accidentally revives it when trying to absorb its power.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: She's originally large enough to be ridden upon, but the form she takes as the Club's Team Pet is the size of a normal fox.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Although she normally just squeaks and yips in her "chibi" state, she reveals she can talk when the Club needs her help in Season 29, and hadn't done so before because she simply didn't want to.
  • Team Pet: After expending most of her energy to fight Ryujin in Season 14, she reincarnates into a "chibi" form that's taken care of by the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Vengeful Ghost: Zina's research reveals that the Fox was originally created when the ghosts of nine wrongfully executed ninja merged into a single form.
  • Walking Spoiler: Despite the Club defeating her early on, her power continues to be relevant throughout the story, as evidenced by the above spoilers.
  • Woman Scorned: It's eventually revealed that the most heinous acts she committed in the past were fueled by grief after her human crush and her White Fox lover both chose other girls over her.

    Inuo Nekoda
A performance judge for a competition at the Ninja Village attraction during Season 3.5, who seemingly reignites Tengge's thirst for revenge.
  • Motivational Lie: Tengge and Yamabuki tell the club that he's actually an assassin from Tengge's village, who went after her family when they refused to do a mission that they were morally against, and that they need to win the competition in order to get close enough to exact revenge on him. At the end of Season 3.5, it turns out the whole "assassin" story was just to motivate the Ninja Seeking Club into giving a stellar performance.
  • Panty Thief: After the club's performance is done, Tengge and Yamabuki admit the truth: he's just an ordinary creep that had stolen Tengge's underwear.

    Groper / Grand Hentai
A pervert in a Mizaki School outfit that performs a streak of criminal acts in Season 9.
  • He Knows Too Much: Gets shot in the back with an arrow after a climatic duel with Kazuki, just in case he remembered his true origins and revealed them.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He's never addressed by his name, mainly because he's not the "real" Kazuki Araya.
  • Restraining Bolt: A version of him summoned by Yamabuki makes occasional appearances in later seasons, either as back-up or to cover for the real Kazuki being absent, but with the addition of a collar that forces him to obey his summoner's commands.
  • Whip Sword: He gets to wield one when (forced into) coming to the Ninja Seekers' aid in Season 11.

    Doujinshi Sempai
One of Yamabuki's mentors, who was quickly outshined. Her jealousy gets the better of her in Season 12, leading to her trying to sabotage Yamabuki's work for her school's athletics event.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: To the point that, once her attempts at sabotage fail, she tries to assault Yamabuki and her friends, more for the inevitable media attention than to actually eliminate the competition.

    Kojuro Kashin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kojuro_kashin.jpg
A government worker that contacts the school to help deduce if Obnubi research is being used to undermine society; namely, doppelgangers replacing figures in power, and subliminal messages in music that can turn people into zombies driven by base desires. It's later revealed that he has ulterior motives for helping the Ninja Seekers, as the Kamuy can unseal a force he wishes to control.
  • Artificial Limbs: He loses one arm in Season 14 when Kazuki's dad cuts it off after dousing it in holy water to negate Kashin's regeneration, which he replaces with a mechanical one. His right arm is also artificial, which Kazuki realizes and uses to his advantage in their final fight.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In Season 13, he banishes a ghost that has Kazuki, Myu, and Akari at its mercy.
  • Death Seeker: He briefly slips into a more compassionate personality in Season 14's Chapter 3, requesting to be killed before the blood mutates his body into a monstrous form.
  • Dying as Yourself: When the second heart in his mutated arm is stabbed, he first tries to fake this, but then his true self actually does let himself be killed and give Sakurako some sincere parting words.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Absorbing Ryujin's power after his main heart is stabbed transforms his right arm, making it monstrous and covered in eyes.
  • Killed Off for Real: In the climax of Season 14.
  • One-Winged Angel: When he absorbs Ryujin's power, it eventually causes a physical transformation.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He was responsible for originally sealing the dragon Ryujin over a thousand years ago, but was covered in its blood in the process, halting his aging and gaining temporary immortality. When the effect starts to deteriorate in the modern era, he seeks to reawaken the dragon for another dose.
  • Rescue Romance: Sakurano has feelings for him, because he saved her and Kikuko's lives when they were younger.
  • Split Personality: The end of Season 14's Chapter 3 implies he has one induced by the dragon blood, asking for Sakurako to kill him before snapping back and calling "Kojuro" a fool.

    Ryujin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_ryujin.jpg
Its Pre-Awakened Form
An ancient and powerful dragon deity that Kashin awakens.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: It primarily meets the description of an Eastern dragon, but can also radiate malice that drives people into temporary insanity.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: It was originally sealed away a thousand years ago by Kashin, but ends up released when the seal's keystone is broken.

    Dankichi Ideura
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_dankichi_ideura.jpg
An elderly retainer of the Rappa clan, an offset of the Fuma led by Lily's sister. He's developed various tools and techniques in order to try and dominate the Iboro, a clan of werebeast ninja (formerly) allied with the Fuma.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Book of Fuma, being outright nasty in comparison to Elly.
  • Disney Villain Death: In the penultimate chapter of Season 21, "Scarface" uses the last of its energy and sanity to grab Dankichi and throw themselves over a cliff, leading to a fall so long that the bottom can't be seen. He turns up alive in the next chapter, only to be stabbed by Kotaro when he tries to kill Lily.
  • Evil Old Folks: He was the one responsible for burning down the Iboro's forest homes, and brainwashing many of them.
  • Fantastic Racism: "Justifies" his experimentation on and abuse of the Iboro by claiming they're more beast than people. The Ninja Seeking Club, of course, consider him the true monster.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason he despises the Fuma and Iboro clans is explained in The College Years: Dankichi's son-in-law was forced to betray and assassinate Yurin and Ryuji Fuma during an inter-clan mission by clan superiors threatening to harm his pregnant wife (Dankichi's daughter) if he refused. When the Fuma clan caught him, the son-in-law felt so guilty that he asked to be executed, and Kotaro Fuma wanted revenge so badly that he granted the request. Dankichi's still-pregnant daughter then killed herself out of grief.
  • In the Back: In Season 21, he tries to kill Lily after Elly calls off the war, and is stabbed in the back with a short sword by Kotaro.
  • Mad Scientist: He specializes in potions, experimentation, and syringes over using ninja arts.
  • Mind Manipulation: His specialty. He attempts to drug Mashiro with a brainwashing potion at a zoo, and later combats the Ninja Seekers with "Scarface", an Iboro werebeast he's completely dominated.
  • Reforged into a Minion: He makes a final appearance in The College Years Season 4, having been revived by Fausta as one of her servants, and helping her create minions that resemble "Scarface" with the intent of getting posthumous revenge on the Fuma.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In addition to coming after Mashiro, it's quickly revealed that his "Scarface" was Mashiro's childhood friend, now bulked-up and mentally damaged to the point where its facial scars are all self-inflicted.

The Black Mage Guild

    Fausta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fausta.jpg
Click for Civilian Look
The leader of the Guild, and an archmage responsible for the black-robed figures that antagonize the protagonists in The College Years.
  • Arc Villain: Of The College Years.
  • Deal with the Devil: In the Normal Epilogue of TCY Season 4, she sells her soul and makes a pact with the demon Mephistopheles (Mephis for short) for immortality and eternal youth, so that she can continue trying to revive Grace. In the Extra Epilogue (Harem), Mephis decides to collect her soul after Grace comes back just long enough to tell her she need to move on with her life...and then the Ninja Seeking Club beat him into a bloody pulp, not doing lasting damage but amusing him enough to let Fausta live.
  • Elite Four: She creates one using the reanimated corpses of four legendary ninja with personal connections to the Ninja Seeking Club: Yurin Fuma, Ryuji Fuma, Yoshito Hanao, and Mr. Araya.
  • Hot Witch: Very scantly clad and a witch.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name bears a striking similarity to Faust, who also famously dabbled with the dark arts. She even makes a pact with the same demon, Mephistopheles.
  • Necromancer: Her Malus minions, the black-robed figures, are actually corpses that she reanimated and empowered with majutsu-magic. Including Lily and Elly's parents, Akari's father, and Kazuki's dad.
  • Secret Identity: In TCY Season 3, it's revealed that "Fausta" is a title, and her civilian identity is Ioanna, the anatomy professor at the medical university Nanao and Iroha are attending. It's not much of a secret, however, as their civilian cover is introduced at the end of Chapter 8, and she reveals her deception to the Ninja Seeking Club at the start of Chapter 9.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: She vaguely admits to the Ninja Seeking Club in TCY Season 3 that her ultimate plan is to "resurrect a god". It turns out she needs Amatsu-Mikaboshi's power as a vessel to revive her dead lover, Grace.

    Hibiki Iwamuro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_hibiki_iwamuro.jpg
A villain that used to be the leader of his own ninja clan, hundreds of years ago. In Season 4 of The College Years, Fausta revives him as a commander of her Malus corpse minions.

    Muneaki Tojo
The grandfather of Setsuna Tojo. Although he passed away of natural causes, his legendary swordsmanship leads to him being revived as one of Fausta's minions in Season 4 of The College Years.

Mizaki City

    Mari Hanao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mari_hanao.jpg
Akari's mother. She runs a flower store.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: She originally mistakes Kazuki as Akari's fiancee.
  • Damsel in Distress: In Season 26, she gets kidnapped by the Yatagarasu to manipulate the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Fantasy Forbidding Mother: Discouraged Akari from joining any athletic clubs when growing up, despite Akari's better-than-average physical abilities, and originally disapproves of the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Moment Killer: In the "Birthday Fun Among the Sakura" Cookie Collection event, just as Akari is about to confess her true feelings to Kazuki during a sakura blossom festival, a drunk Mari interrupts and ruins the mood by telling Kazuki to become her son-in-law. The next evening, Kazuki works up the nerve to ask Akari what she was going to say earlier, and Akari musters up her own courage...only to be interrupted again by Cy telling them that Mari's drunk again, with Mari then pulling Akari up onto a table to dance together.
  • Secret Legacy: She's a ronin ninja originally from the same village as Kazuki. She fled with a jewel, called the Izumo, necessary for powering up the Kamuy, to ensure that the blade's true might would not be used for evil. She never told Akari any of this in order to protect her, but is forced to come clean when the jewel reacts to Kazuki's sword.
  • Shipper on Deck: Mari ships Akari with Kazuki the minute she laid her eyes on him, much to their mutual embarrassment.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Akari's father died when she was very little, leading Mari to be rather overprotective.

    Yoshito Hanao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshikake_hanao.jpg
Mari's husband, and Akari's father, who had passed away some time ago. Although no pictures of him are in the original visual novel, his appearance is revealed in The College Years, when the dark mage Fausta resurrects his corpse to use as a powerful minion.
  • BFS: In TCY, he's carrying a broadsword with a single hand, and dialogue boxes refer to him as "Man with huge sword" until his name is revealed.
  • Good Parents: Season 24 indicates that he was a loving husband and father when he lived, given that the secret code to access a powerful orb was Akari's birthdate, and he kept a photo album of cherished memories (and the occasional bikini shot) with his wife.
  • The Mole: The end of TCY Season 3 shows him secretly meeting with Mari, and Chapter 2 of TCY Season 4 reveals he was overpowering Fausta's control over him and was informing her of his own weaknesses in order to protect Akari and her friends.
  • Posthumous Character: He had already passed away before the events of the original visual novel, though he is mentioned (albeit not by name) on occasion, such as in Season 24 when the Ninja Seeking Club need to find an orb he hid in a secret cave he dug behind the Hanao house.
  • Precursor Hero: He was the previous wielder of the Kamuy before Kazuki Araya.
  • Red Baron: He's also referred to as "Doryu, the Dragon of Earth".
  • Reforged into a Minion: He first appears in the first chapter of TCY Season 3 as one of Fausta's minions. He also appeared in the final chapter of RPG as one of Toya Kunitachi's minions.
  • Unperson: TCY explains why his and Kanna's past status as part of the "Three Dragons of Daikoku" had not been mentioned earlier, by stating that when they became ronin, the disrespected Daikoku tried to erase their history with them.

Daikoku Village

    Kazuki's Father / Mr. Araya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_mc_dad.png
Kazuki's father, and leader of Daikoku Village.
  • Abusive Parents: One of Kazuki's main motivation for leaving the village, possibly more so than wanting an ordinary life, was the strict training and lack of social contact his father put him through. Even when they meet again to discuss Obnubi attacking other ninja villages, he continuously refers to his own son as an "idiot ronin".
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: It's quickly established that he's even more perverted than his son.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He takes direct action in the final chapter of Season 23, taking the Kamuy and using a technique Kazuki had yet to master in order to defeat a rampaging beast unsealed by the Yatagarasu.
  • Choosing Neutrality: During Obnubi's invasion of villages, he willingly chooses to remain uninvolved in the conflict, out of concern that other villages would rally behind him and end up suffering more casualties than otherwise.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: His side job is acting as a stunt coordinator for a public ninja-themed tourist trap, which both provides an alibi for his (and his son's) potential displays of ninjutsu in public, and also pays surprisingly well.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In Season 30, he takes a fatal wound from his berserk son's blade in place of Sanzo Momochi.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Who would expect a stunt coordinator for a cheesy ninja show to be an actual ninja?
  • Killed Off for Real: Dies in Season 30 trying to reach out to his berserk son.
  • Last Request: He asks Sanzo to finish him off when Kazuki's sword fatally wounds him in Season 30, with Tayu telling the others it's his final request.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Yeah, the apple does not fall far from the tree as far as Kazuki and Mr. Araya's libido goes.
  • Red Baron: In The College Years, he's referred to as "Enryu, the Dragon of Fire", and was also one of the Three Dragons of Daikoku alongside Akari and Hotaru's fathers.
  • Reforged into a Minion: In TCY Season 2, Beretta has to unfortunately inform Kazuki that Fausta of the Black Mage Guild has turned his corpse into an intelligent zombie.
  • Unnamed Parent: His given name is never revealed.

    Sakurako Hattori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakurako_hattori_9.jpg

The older twin sister of Kikuko Hattori. They are both descended from the Kamuy's original maker, but only Sakurano has the talent to reforge it if cracked.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up repeatedly during the Season 9-11 story arc to save the students from brainwashing sound waves. Subverted with the reveal that this Sakurako was a clone who, alongside clones of Kikuko and Mr. Kuzuryu, were stringing the Ninja Seeking Club along to field test the doppelganger and sound wave tech and uncover any weaknesses that needed to be eliminated.
  • The Dreaded: Her younger sister Kikuko is terrified of upsetting her.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: According to her, she's the responsible one, as Kikuko's last attempt at helping her smith was decades ago, involved putting glitter on weapons, and led to a fire that cost Sakurano most of her wares.
  • The Hermit: Lives in a mountain cabin away from civilization.
  • Mad Love: Due to her affection towards Kashin, she briefly turns against the Ninja Seeking Club to help him awaken Ryujin and renew his immortality.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Kikuko is goofy and embraces modernity, while Sakurano is serious and follows their ancestor's ancient smithing ways.

    Yurisuke Yuri
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moe_ninja_girls_yurisuke.png

One of the guardians of Daikoku Village, loyal to Kazuki's dad. Absent in the original version of "The Legendary Ninja", he appears in the Side Story remake to deride him for endangering innocents with his displays of overwhelming power, as well as in the sequel to inform Kazuki that Tsukuyomi remnants are after the boy's life. He also appears in the final season of the original story, and early in The College Years.

  • Big Damn Heroes: In the "Doki Doki" ending of "The Legendary Ninja 2", he shows up and uses his rope binding techniques to restrain both a psychotic Shuya and a berserk Kazuki right before they can kill each other.
  • Instant Knots: The "Doki Doki" ending of "The Legendary Ninja 1" establishes that he's renowned for rope binding techniques. In the sequel's "Doki Doki" ending, he demonstrates them.
  • Oblivious to Love: The TCY Season 2 Super Early Bird Ricka Epilogue features Kazuki and Ricka tailing Yurisuke and Sau as a mission from Kurenai. By the end, it's revealed that Sau has feelings for him, but Yurisuke sincerely believes they're just good drinking buddies.
  • Pretty Boy: Although his portrait is a silhouette, it's learned in TCY Season 2 that he, Kamina, Elly, and Kurenai are known as the "Four Angels" of the early-adult ninja community for their stunning looks.
  • Repetitive Name: Yurisuke Yuri.

    Kamina Yuri
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kamina_yuri_28casual29.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
Introduced in The College Years, she is the sister-in-law of Yurisuke, as she's married to his brother Kakushi. She was born into a branch family of the Kazamatsuri clan, but was adopted by the head family and is thus also Oka's step-sister. Now, after training Oka, she advocates for her marriage to Kazuki.
  • Adaptational Villainy: She technically debuted in the RPG spin-off as the unmarried "Kamina Kazamatsuri", and was a major antagonist.
  • Paper Talisman: Her default conversation portrait has her holding a bunch in one hand.

    Kakushi "Toji" Yuri
Introduced in The College Years, he is Yurisuke's older brother, and Kamina's husband.
  • Chain Pain: When he comes to Kazuki's aid when a bunch of black-cloaked figures ambush him, Oka, Akari, and Myu, he fights with chains and binds the enemies with them (before they turn to smoke and fade away).

    Mao Kazamatsuri
Oka's mother.

Momochi Village

    Tayu Momochi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_myus_mother.png
Myu's mother, and the leader of her village.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Akin to Mrs. Hanao, she originally assumes that Kazuki is Myu's fiance when they first meet, taking note of an extreme feeling of love she can sense from Myu (that Myu didn't want made known).
  • Shipper on Deck: Is very much into the idea of Kazuki going out with her daughter.

    Kuromaru
Tayu's familiar.

    Sanzo Momochi
Myu's father, and Tayu's husband.
  • Last Episode, New Character: He only appears in Season 30, which is the final season of the visual novel, and in Myu's Epilogue as a silhouette.
  • Wolverine Claws: He fights with a pair of metal claws that are enchanted with fire by his familiar.

    Ginjishi
Sanzo Momochi's familiar, who takes the form of a silver lion.

    Itsuki
Myu's childhood friend, who passed away in a fire when a rival village attacked. Her death gave Myu both a fear of fire, and a hidden desire for vengeance against evildoers, both of which require the help of the Ninja Seeking Club to overcome.
  • Becoming the Mask: The bonds she formed with Myu and the other villagers led to her betraying Kankuro when he stole the Beast Seal Scroll and tried to kill sole witness Myu.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The fire that claimed her turns out to have been started by herself, when she used a bomb to save the village by taking out herself and Kankuro.
  • The Mole: Originally came to Myu's village as part of a plan Kankuro made to steal the Beast Seal Scroll.
  • Posthumous Character: She perished long before Myu arrived at Mizaki School.
  • Reincarnation: Because of her desire to protect Myu, the villagers used the Beast Seal Scroll to let her come back as Fuu, Myu's rabbit familiar.
  • Walking Spoiler: The truth about her history with Myu is the focus of the Book of Darkness (Seasons 18 and 19).

Fuma Village

    Elly Fuma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elly_fuma_regular_outfit.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
Lily's sister, and leader of the Rappa branch of the Fuma clan.
  • Cain and Abel: Lily attempts to reason with her about how she and Daikichi are treating the Iboro, only to end up in combat when neither side is willing to give in.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After Lily finally defeats her in a duel in Season 21's climax, Elly admits her stubbornness, and immediately calls off the inter-clan war.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She admits that she found Dankichi's experimentation on the Iboro utterly horrifying. However, he had been doing it long before she took charge of the Rappa, and since it was too late to undo his damage, she decided to use the additional power in order to combat the main branch family.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: She completely dismisses the bonds of friendship the Ninja Seeking Club has. This changes after said bonds lead to her defeat.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After the events of the Book of Fuma, she's on better terms with the rest of her family, even supporting Lily in the competition for Kazuki's heart.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: After her Heel–Face Turn, her ability at managing the tourism aspect of the Fuma clan's theme park village is shown to be exceptional, to the point that she repeatedly scolds the clan leader/her uncle Kotaro.
  • Romantic False Lead: Elly is among the girls declared as potential marriage candidates for Kazuki in The College Years, and even makes a genuine effort to sabotage the competition and woo Kazuki (unlike her rival Kurenai, who just used the competition as an opportunity to officially make Ricka part of her clan). However, towards the end of TCY Season 3, Lily makes a Love Confession to Kazuki and Elly willingly steps down so Lily can take her place as the Fuma clan representative.
  • Slipping a Mickey: Early in TCY Season 2, she tries to gain an edge over the other marriage candidates by slipping a sleeping agent in bread at a communal dinner, and spending the night with Kazuki while the other girls are knocked out. However, Ricka and Enju are able to resist and come to Kazuki's aid.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She makes use of Daikichi's experimentation on the Iboro clan, and allies with the Yatagarasu, in order to usurp her Obnubi-influenced uncle as the clan leader. She's also willing to kill Enju to avoid Obnubi's remnants making her a Puppet King and returning to how it functioned under Naganobu's leadership, though she apologizes to Enju for this after being defeated.
  • Xanatos Gambit: While recovering after her defeat, she slyly indicates to Enju that the Rappa already had a grudge against the Fuma, and that she took charge of the branch to force them to stay in line and not go to the same extremes as Dankichi rather than to actually take over the whole family. She does admit that the plan was flawed, though, such as the possibility that Lily would fail to overcome her and she'd actually have to murder relatives.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Unlike Kurenai, who has a genuine grudge towards Elly before repeated interactions calm her down, Elly has always handled their rivalry with friendly teasing.

    Kotaro Fuma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_lilyuncle_kotaro.png
Lily's uncle, the leader of the main branch of the Fuma clan, and the 25th to hold the name "Kotaro".
  • The Beastmaster: In his proper introduction, he's shown commanding a swarm of bees and hornets to properly maintain the flowers of his village.
  • Bumbling Dad: After the Rappa lose their rebellion and Elly starts working directly under him, it turns out that he's actually incredibly poor at managing the theme park aspect of their converted village without her guidance, such as him ordering donkeys for a horseback ride attraction.
  • The Cavalry: Decides to change his mind and assist the Ninja Seeking Club right when the Rappa's forces bypass the garrison the Club set up and are about to kill them.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: When the Ninja Seeking Club decides to stand their ground against the Rappa, he ends up joining the fight alongside his subordinates and the free-willed Iboro, despite claiming earlier that the matter should just be between Fuma clans.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: The arrival of Iboro ninja alongside the Fuma clan when they appear as The Cavalry completely blindsides the Rappa.
  • Famous Ancestor: The Fuma family is, of course, descended from Fuuma Kotaro.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: With some assistance from Obnubi, he's converted his clan's village into a theme park, with European-styled buildings and international floral arrangements. Additionally, before introducing himself, the Ninja Seeking Club mistake him for the park's janitor.
  • Honor Before Reason: When the Ninja Seeking Club first go to him to help protect the Iboro from Elly and Daikichi, he tells them to stay out of it, as conflict between Fuma branches should be kept to clan members.
  • Legacy Character: He's the 25th "Kotaro Fuma" to run the Fuma clan. His birth name was Ryuichi, as revealed during The College Years when Yurin tries to convince him not to fight his brother.
  • Old Friend: He's stated to have been close acquaintances with Obnubi's former leader Naganobu, despite never being mentioned or seen until the Book of Fuma.
  • Red Baron: In TCY Season 3, Kanna identifies him as "Kouki, the Red Ogre of Fuma".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: With his brother Ryuji; in addition to their monikers directly addressing them as such, he gave into his anger and executed the man that Ryuji let assassinate him for the good of the clans.

    Yurin Fuma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yurin_fuma.jpg
Lily and Elly's mother. She was a pure-blooded Iboro, leading to her daughters inheriting some of that clan's traits; while Elly was able to suppress most of them, the curse Lily deals with during Season 29 fully awakens hers. Although she's never shown during the original visual novel, The College Years reveals that she had passed away...and has since been resurrected by Fausta to serve as their minion.
  • Adaptation Name Change: She's referred to as "Yuri" in the original visual novel and RPG, but is addressed as "Yurin" when she appears in TCY.
  • The Gadfly: In the first confrontation she has with the Ninja Seeking Club, she immediately messes with Lily and Kazuki by asking to make out with the latter before attempting to claw them both.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She's stuck in a partially-transformed state between human and werebeast, and is thus always seen with wolf-like ears and a tail.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: She looks the same age as her daughter Elly, if not younger.
  • Red Baron: She's also known as "Heiran, the Black Wolf of Fuma".
  • Reforged into a Minion: She first appears in the first chapter of TCY Season 3 as one of Fausta's minions. She had also appeared in the final season of RPG as a resurrected and unwilling subordinate of Toya Kunitachi.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: According to Kotaro's story on how she and Ryuji died, they knew fully well that they were going to be ambushed by Dankichi's son-in-law, but willingly let themselves be killed in order to prevent the clans from splintering apart. Then the son-in-law let himself be executed by Kotaro as penitence, Dankichi's daughter was so grief-stricken that she took her own life (and that of her unborn child's), and Dankichi himself spent the rest of his life torturing the Iboro into weapons to take down the Fuma.

    Ryuji Fuma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryuji_fuma.jpg
Lily and Elly's father. Unmentioned in the original visual novel, The College Years reveals that, like his wife, he perished at some point in the past...and has since been resurrected as one of Fausta's minions.
  • Casting a Shadow: He's mastered the Fuma shadow techniques, and is capable of summoning a barrier of pure shadow that can only be penetrated by Onmyouji (Oka) and Miko (Hotaru).
  • Red Baron: He's also known as "Soki, the Blue Ogre of Fuma".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: With his brother Kotaro; in addition to their monikers directly addressing them as such, he let himself die for the betterment of their clans, whereas Kotaro gave into his anger and made it a Senseless Sacrifice by executing the Ideura assassin in revenge, giving Dankichi a reason to hate the Fuma.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Just like his wife, he's resurrected as one of Fausta's minions in TCY and one of Toya's minions in RPG.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: According to Kotaro, just like his wife, he let himself be killed to prevent an inter-clan war, only for the Ideura/Rappa and Fuma to end up going to war later on.

Tokakushi Village

    Kurenai Kato

Click for Ninja Look

The leader of Tokakushi village. Ricka had spent most of her childhood there before transferring to Daikoku Village, which Kurenai remembers fondly, wanting to be treated as Ricka's older sister. Her village has no connection to Cy, despite Cy's last name being Tokakushi.

  • An Ice Person: Her entire village specializes in this technique, which is how Ricka learned it. Her first actual appearance has her cause and dispel a life-threatening blizzard when she mistakes the Ninja Seeking Club for enemies. Later, she's even shown to be capable of freezing her own blood into a weapon.
  • Badass Biker: Her clan's styled after greaser motorcycle punks, with herself as the gang's head.
  • Bloody Murder: In her duel with Ricka in The College Years Season 2, Ricka gains the initial advantage by freezing all of the moisture in the air, so Kurenai lets herself be wounded and freezes her own blood into projectiles.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Kurenai is both a powerful ice ninjitsu user and a respected clan leader. She also goes absolutely ga-ga over Ricka, and forgot to accept the summons to the highly important Ninja Summit because she was too busy having fun with her motorcycle gang.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: When the two guards of her village turn away Ricka and her friends when they try to contact her, she initially orders them to wash their backs in a hot spring. However, she relents and asks for their forgiveness after learning they were trying to cover for her own forgetfulness.
  • Like a Son to Me: She absolutely adores Ricka and wants to be treated like her cool older sister, though Ricka herself is embarrassed by the attention.
  • The Rival: She's had encounters with Elly Fuma in the past, and has a notable grudge directed at her. It evolves into Vitriolic Best Buds as the two are forced to work together in later seasons of the story.
  • Xanatos Gambit: She manages to pull one off in The College Years Season 2. She becomes a candidate for marriage to Kazuki, but is uninterested in him, and uses the opportunity to provoke Ricka into dueling her. If she wins (which she does), Ricka has to do anything she says, so she orders Ricka to join Tokakushi as her successor and replace her as the village's marriage candidate. If she loses (which she doesn't), she has to bow out of the competition for Kazuki's heart, and Iroha speculates she could have then simply asked Ricka to be her successor using the then-available opportunity to be Tokakushi's candidate as leverage.

    Sau Kato
Kurenai's sister.

    Jiraibo Tokakushi
Kurenai's "mentor's mentor", a previous leader of the Clan that once got in a heated gunfight with Kagehiko of the Koshusuppa-gumi.

Saika Village

    Shigehachi Saika
The leader of Saika Village at the time of the Ninja Summit during the "Book of Rival Swords".
  • Brains and Brawn: In comparison to Mitsuo, who places high value on digital technology and covert ops (Brains), Shigehachi thinks that the superior modern technology is heavy artillery (Brawn).
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: His village is comparable to an army base, and he makes his underlings enact military drills on a regular basis.
  • Famous Ancestor: His village is descended from the Saika Ikki, the famed clan of gunsmiths and mercenaries from Japan's feudal era.
  • The Rival: To Mitsuo Nokizaru, leader of Nokizaru village.

    Tsubume Shiranui
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsubame_shiranui_normal_outfit.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
The most skilled gunwoman of Saika Village, set to become Shigehachi's successor.
  • Ascended Extra: In The College Years, she's one of the eight candidates for an arranged marriage with Kazuki, and a member of the Real Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Friendly Sniper: In the Season 30 finale, she's able to get a perfect headshot on every monster she aims at, and is able to walk through crossfire with ease, but she is still nice to and supportive of the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Hidden Depths: She's secretly a talented musician, as shown by her appearance in the "International Ninja Clash!" side-story when her music is mistaken for the siren's supernaturally alluring tones.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She's one of the various new characters introduced in Season 30, the final season of the original story, though she has made subsequent appearances in Spin-Offs and The College Years.

Nokizaru Village

    Mitsuo Nokizaru
The leader of Nokizaru village.
  • Brains and Brawn: In comparison to Shigehachi, who thinks the best way to deal with enemies is with a display of firepower (Brawn), Mitsuo believes that the future of the ninja world is through digital espionage (Brains).
  • Insufferable Genius: He doesn't think highly of lesser minds, referring to Shigehachi as a chimpanzee with a gun.
  • Magitek: His village has pioneered a method of hacking into computer systems that incorporates ninjitsu in order to avoid being detected by ordinary firewalls.
  • The Rival: To Shigehachi Saika, leader of Saika village.

    Haruka Nokizaru
The daughter of the head of Nokizaru village.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Her ninjitsu is centered around electromagnetism, helping out in Season 30 by lifting knocked-down iron poles and shooting them at the monsters Guten's released upon the town.
  • Red Herring: In The College Years, every ninja village has at least one member that gets promoted to main character status, usually as a marriage candidate for Kazuki (Hijiri for Negoro, Tsubame for Saika, and Shiratsuru for Kuki). However, rather than Haruka becoming a marriage candidate, the final TCY season has the Nokizaru representative turn out to be Toya Kunitachi.

Kuki Village

    Yoshimori Kuki
The leader of Kuki village, met at the time of the Ninja Summit.
  • Famous Ancestor: His clan is descended from Kuki Yoshitaka, a naval commander that served under Nobunaga and Toyotomi during the Sengoku period.
  • Fiction 500: In addition to clan leader, he's the head of Nine Transtech, a tech company that's capable of funding even the most bombastic military strike the Saika can come up with...though he's hesitant to just throw money away at a plan with little chance of paying off.

    Shiratsuru Kuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shiratsuru_kuki_school_uniform.jpg
Tsuru's school uniform
Click for Ninja Look
The daughter of the leader of the Kuki Village ninjas.
  • Ascended Extra: She's the tritagonist of the "The New Ninja Seeking Club" spin-off story, having just transferred to Mizaki school. And in The College Years, she's one of the eight candidates nominated to marry Kazuki.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has blue hair and blue eyes.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She's one of the various new characters introduced in Season 30, the final season of the original story, though she has made subsequent appearances in Spin-Offs and The College Years.
  • Making a Splash: Her ninjitsu allows her to manipulate water, such as using a fire hydrant to create a wave more powerful than the sea.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Shiratsuru is noted to be incredibly powerful by her peers, but she actually gets seasick from her own water ninjitsu, and her father states she needs to train more before she can overcome the feeling.

Negoro Village

    Zenshu Negoro
The actual leader of Negoro village, who was briefly replaced by a Yatagarasu spy during the Ninja Summit.
  • Cool Airship: His clan specializes in operating these, allowing transit from the Ninja Summit to Momochi Village almost immediately after his impostor's deception is foiled.
  • Dare to Be Badass: He acts this way when commanding his Cool Airship, spouting phrases such as "Those who dare, win!"
  • Split Personality: Although he initially appears to be and acts like a calm-minded monk, he acts much more militant and bombastic when flying his Cool Airship towards a battle, which is noted and discussed by the Ninja Seeking Squad.

    Yoshinushi Negoro
The second leader of Negoro village. Like his predecessor, he is a kindly old man...at first glance.

Miza Village

    Hayuki Miza
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hayuki.jpg
Her non-Spa outfit
A punkish girl who works at her mother's spa, which the Ninja Seeking Club visits in Season 28. Her family is descended from ninja, and she considers herself Kurenai's apprentice.
  • Arc Villain: Although she's more stubborn than intentionally villainous, the majority of Season 28 is the Club trying to Maintain the Lie that Myu's already in a relationship with Ricka to stop Hayuki from trying to marry her.
  • Ascended Extra: After only having a major role in Season 28, she gains more prominence in The College Years, namely by joining the Real Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Blade on a Rope: In the climax of Season 28, she battles Ricka in a duel to win Myu's heart, and wields a kusaridama (sickle and chain).
  • Coat Cape: She wears her jacket in her uniform look.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Has orange hair and eyes the same color.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She's instantly enamored with Myu's cuteness when they first meet, to the point of immediately asking to marry her. She eventually tries to clarify that she wanted Myu to marry her brother, but does so with enough awkwardness that the Club's convinced she would still marry Myu if she could.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After losing a duel to Ricka, she compliments Ricka's talents, and promises to stop going after Myu. Finding out immediately after that Kurenai treats Ricka like a sister has her beg for forgiveness.
  • Hot-Blooded: In her first appearance, she sees a bunch of thuggish-looking men getting close to the Ninja Seeking Club, and punches the supposed lead bully in the face...before being informed that the men were actually Tengge's harmless fan club, at which point she profusely apologized.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: According to Hotaru (whose grandparents live adjacent to the Miza's spa), Hayuki used to be a Yamato Nadeshiko when she was younger. However, after getting lost in a blizzard one day and getting rescued by Kurenai, she completely changed her appearance and personality to emulate her new hero.

    Fubuki Miza
The mother of Hayuki Miza. She manages an inn and hot springs.
  • Retired Badass: During the events of Season 30, when all of the ninja clans and their allies come together to deal with the current threat, it's revealed she was a capable ninja in her prime (and still has some decent skill in her present state).

Kokonohi Clan

    Homura Kokonohi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_homura_kokonohi.jpg
Hotaru's grandmother, who lives adjacent to the Miza family hot springs.
  • Alliterative Family: She, her daughter and granddaughter all have names that begin with 'Ho'.
  • Connected All Along: When she meets the Ninja Seeking Club, she informs Kazuki that Hotaru's ancestors were priestesses that worked with a past wielder of the Kamuy to originally seal the Nine-Tailed Fox away. Additionally, she reveals that the Kokonobi clan (of which Ikiru is the last known descendant) is an offshoot of the main family.

    White Fox
The guardian spirit that protects the land around Homura's estate, who Homura frequently communicates with. He used to live with Tamamo the Nine-Tailed Fox, and has pined for her ever since they parted ways.
  • Jerkass Gods: Though agitated by the Yatagarasu meddling with legendary beasts, he curses Kazuki, Lily, and Tengge mainly because one of his statues was going to crush Lily during an avalanche and they destroyed it to save her life.
  • Relative Error: The Silver Fox that Tamamo caught him "cheating" with when they last met was actually his sister.

    Hoshimi Kokonohi
Hotaru's energetic mother.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Although she only appears briefly during Season 30 of the original visual novel, her peppy attitude is very reminiscent of Hotaru's.

    Kanna Kokonohi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_kanna_kokonohi.jpg
His Non-Shrine Outfit
The father of Hotaru, and caretaker of the Dorobune Shrine.
  • Ascended Extra: After initially appearing as a silhouette in Season 30 of the original visual novel, Kanna had a significant role in the "New Ninja Seeking Club" Spin-Off story, as he was able to dispel the wards Waka placed in the girl's dormitories. His role grew even more important in the final two seasons of TCY, due to both his history being relevant to the plot and also his skills being useful in dispelling the Malus zombies, and he gained an actual character portrait.
  • Connected All Along: He's Kamina Kazamatsuri's pre-adoption brother, and in TCY, he's mentioned to have also been one of the "Three Dragons of Daikoku" alongside Kazuki's Dad and Yoshito Hanao.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: There's tension between him and Kamina in TCY Season 4, when they reunite, because Kanna left her behind when he became a ronin ninja.
  • Unperson: TCY explains why his and Yoshito's past status had not been mentioned earlier, by stating that when they became ronin, the disrespected Daikoku tried to erase their history with them.

Seki Clan

    Kaede Seki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaede_seki.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
The teenaged clan head, due to both of her parents passing away when she was young.
  • Mafia Princess: Although she doesn't seem aware of it herself, the way Kaede describes the retainers passed down from her parents refusing to let anyone record their actions, as well as how said retainers use terms such as "piece" for a gun and "po-po" for police, makes the Ninja Seeking Club realize they're organized like Yakuza.
  • Young and in Charge: She's introduced at the same age as Myu, and has been in charge of clan operations (including managing a hotel in their territory for clan ambassadors) since she was five years younger.

    Makie Kakuzu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/makie_kakuzu.jpg
Click for Ninja Look
Kaede's best friend and second-in-command.

    Yasuna Abenobashi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yasuna_abenobashi.jpg
The priest of Abenobashi shrine in RPG. When Yasuna appears in The College Years, after spending some time helping Hotaru train her powers, she is transferred to a shrine in Seki Clan territory.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Yasuna's initially mistaken for a young man. In TCY, Kazuki compares her to Ju Sakamoto upon learning her true gender.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: The "on the next" segment after her TCY introduction has Hotaru briefly mention Yasuna's secret love for girly fashion magazines before Yasuna nervously interrupts and starts describing the upcoming chapter.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: In RPG, Kazuki finds out about Yasuna's true gender the hard way once he falls on her chest. Averted in TCY, when Hotaru first refers to Yasuna with male pronouns before casually revealing to the whole group that Yasuna's actually a girl.

MEA

    Beretta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beretta.jpg
A member of the MEA organization that allies with the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Her first fully-lit appearance has her shoot a blade out of Sheea's hand, right when Sheea revealed her true nature and was about to cut Akari's throat.
  • Eccentric Mentor: In the "Book of Steamy Hot Springs" arc, not only does she lie that the Miza family is constantly spying on them so Ricka and Myu have to keep pretending to be a couple at all times, it also turns out that the "vacation" she invited the Ninja Seeking Club for is actually a dangerous business trip.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: They make early appearances in Season 24 as a shady silhouette, at roughly the same time the Ninja Seeking Clup suspects a spy in their midst. But in the final scene before the girl-centric endings, it turns out to be a misdirect, and she saves them from the actual spy.
  • Theme Naming: All of the members of MEA use codenames based on guns, with "Beretta" being a notable firearms manufacturing company.
  • You Are in Command Now: Despite siding with the Club over the MEA when Leifiv tries to use them for his own goals, MEA's Chief orders her to temporarily take over Leifiv's position when Leifiv proves himself to be incompetent; by the time of TCY, the promotion has become permanent.

    Sten
One of MEA's newest recruits, and a former antagonist to the Ninja Seeking Squad, whose skills are necessary in tracking down the Yatagarasu.
  • The Bus Came Back: Their true identity is a character that had not appeared in the story since Season 8.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Originally serving an antagonistic role, they're trying to turn over a new leaf in the MEA.
  • More than Mind Control: Claims that their past wickedness, while at least partially born from their own desires, was manipulated by the Yatagarsu.
  • Theme Naming: The STEN is a British model of submachine guns, fitting with MEA's gun-themed codenames.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: For more information about them, please see the folder for Ikiru Kokonobi.

    Leifiv
Beretta's superior at the time of first meeting the Ninja Seeking Club.
  • Arc Villain: Season 25, the first part of the Book of Yatagarasu, focuses more on him antagonizing the Ninja Seeking Club to gain intel on the Yatagarasu than it does on the Yatagarasu itself.
  • Bad Boss: He only cares about his own position in MEA, berating his underlings, willing to sacrifice the Ninja Seeking Club after interrogating them about the Yatagarasu, ordering solders to fire at civilians when the Club tries to escape, and trying to order all lesser MEA agents to swarm the Yatagarasu after his own elite Scarecrow Corps is the victim of a Curb-Stomp Battle. When the MEA's Chief learns about this, he has Leifiv immediately imprisoned and promotes Beretta to Leifiv's position.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He spends the entire season antagonizing the Ninja Seeking Club in order to locate the Yatagarasu, believing that victory against them will lead to a promotion. Not only does the Yatagarasu end up annihilating his personal Corps, his position is stripped from him when the MEA Chief learns about his actions.
  • No Name Given: He's only known as "Manager" up until the MEA Chief addresses him in his final scene, and even then, his real name is never revealed.
  • We Have Reserves: This mindset, ordering all MEA soldiers to fight the Yatagarasu despite his own force being immediately executed by them, is ultimately the tipping point that leads to his superiors firing him.

    Glock
A longtime ally of the Ninja Seeking Club, who reveals their before-unmentioned history as a MEA member in a shocking moment of betrayal.
  • Becoming the Mask: Over the long period of time they bonded with the Club, they truly cared about its members, to the point of Taking the Bullet in Season 26.
  • *Click* Hello: They reveal their status as The Mole when Manager Leifiv and their underlings are about to fight the Ninja Seeking Club to the death in order to use Tengge for their plans, and Glock puts a gun against Kazuki's head to force a surrender.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: After Leifiv is relieved of duty at the end of Season 25 and the more benevolent Beretta put in their place, Glock is asked to support the Club as they used to, and acts like nothing's changed. However, the Club is incredibly apprehensive, with some members (particularly Nanao) not trusting them until their Taking the Bullet moment towards the end of the next Season.
  • Taking the Bullet: They end up taking a fatal wound protecting Nanao from the Yatagarasu, only surviving due to Nanao overclocking her Healing Hands into Vampiric Draining the entire area, plants, friends and foes alike.
  • The Mole: They were originally sent to monitor the Nine-Tailed Fox, and after that was dealt with by the Ninja Seeking Club, to befriend its members and report on the club's activities from within.
  • Theme Naming: A Glock is a brand of semi-automatic pistol, keeping in line with MEA's firearms-based codenames.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: Their true identity is Yamabuki Suou.

    Itsuki "Kiki" Osakabe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiki_osakabe.jpg
A member of MEA's research division. She accidentally introduced herself to the club with her real name, and later prefers to be called by her code name, Carbine, but multiple characters (especially Nanao) keep forgetting that.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She's one of the various new characters introduced in Season 30, the final season of the original story, though she has made subsequent appearances in Spin-Offs.
  • Robot Buddy: She's always accompanied by four that she built herself: the imp-like Ichigo, the mech-like Momo, the bird-like Budo, and the humanoid Ringo.
  • Theme Naming: Her codename fits the rest of MEA's gun-based names, as a carbine is a long-barreled firearm whose barrel is shorter than that of a standard rifle or musket.

    Luger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirino_saion_ji.jpg
The director of MEA's research division.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She first appears at the end of Season 17, long before the MEA is introduced, as an unnamed woman who claims the magic mirror the Yatagarasu Assassin stole after both sides of the battle are too worn out to stop her.
  • Missing Mom: She's Enju's, who was thought to have been killed by Obnubi.
  • Theme Naming: A Luger, also known as a Pistole Parabellum, is a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol, continuing the trend of MEA codenames referring to guns.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: Her real identity is Kirino Saion-ji, Enju's mother.

    Derringer
The Chief of the MEA.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He's briefly involved with the end of Season 25 to deal with Liefiv, but isn't properly introduced until Season 30.
  • Secret Legacy: He's James Spicer, AKA John Spicer's grandfather.
  • Theme Naming: The term "derringer" has come to refer to any small-sized handgun that is neither a revolver nor a semi/fully automatic pistol, fitting with the organization's gun-based codenames.

Koshusuppa-gumi

    Harumi Yamato
The leader of the Koshusuppa-gumi, an alliance of ninja from the Kai province of Japan introduced in The College Years Season 4.
  • Green Thumb: In her Establishing Character Moment, she instantly defeats Dankichi and his Malus "Scarface" puppets by using ninjitsu to constrict them with plants, and then ties down Kikuko and her group of ambassadors with vines until they can explain they just want to form an alliance to fight against the Black Mage Guild.

    Kagehiko Katakura
An elderly member of the Koshusuppa-gumi that once fought with the previous leader of the Tokakushi clan.

    Chosa Kesennuma
A trained ninja that uses her skills to work as a chef.

    Yahime Mishima
The representative of the Iyo Shinobi group

    Ryoko Kino
Yahime's best friend, and the self-proclaimed brains of the duo.
  • Valley Girl: She speaks in this manner, with Kazuki immediately comparing her natural demeanor to Hotaru's.

    Yume Ureshino
The bookish granddaughter of the leader of the Ureshino clan.

Others

    Ju Sakamoto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ju_sakamoto_9.jpg
A famous singer, and the best friend of Yamabuki Suou. A childhood argument tore them apart, but they reconnect during the events of Season 3.5.
  • Bifauxnen: Kazuki originally thinks she's a guy when first seeing her perform.
  • Out of Focus: After being the opening act for YTG8 when the latter debuted in the story, they took her place as the setting's biggest musical idols, with Ju not appearing again until Season 30 (when she again performs with YTG8 to lift morale during the chaos).

    Minamigahara
A seafood-loving member of Japan's government, who was formerly a somewhat raunchy comedian. His main job is as a liaison between the Diet and the ninja communities.

    Okori
A doppelganger of Akari, conveniently encountered right when Mizaki School's student body is subliminally brainwashed into becoming lust-driven zombies. However, she turns out to be an ally, albeit an abrasive one.
  • Back for the Finale: After the story arc she's introduced in is over, she doesn't appear again until The College Years Season 4, as the embodiment of the Izumo's divine spirit.
  • Enemy Without: Unlike every other doppelganger encountered in the Season 9-11 story arc, she was generated by the Izumo, as a byproduct of its counterpart the Kamuy being chipped and strengthened when dealing with the Grand Hentai.
  • Meaningful Name: Yamabuki chooses it because it's a vowel's difference from Akari, as well as being close to the Japanese word for "to anger", which Okori does by being a lot more brash and jealous than the girl she's based on.

    Pervy Abbot
The head of a temple with a cursed painting that the Ninja Seeking Club deals with while hunting ghosts in Season 13. He has a prominent role in that season's Normal ending, in which Akari finds a flyer for his blatantly-sketchy meditation program and thinks it's a legitimate way for the Club to train their spiritual energy.
  • Dirty Old Man: He asks the Club to close their eyes and remain perfectly still and silent while he gropes the girls to "train their willpower", and he then surrounds himself with just the girls when it's time to meditate under a waterfall in their swimsuits.

    Koropokkur
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moeng_koropokkur.jpg
A tiny nature spirit met in Season 17. She quickly grows close to Ricka, not only because Ricka saves her from a wild dog, but also due to the girl's resemblance to her liege, Mistress Swan.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's tiny, adorable, and offers assistance...while also hoping that Mistress Swan will consume Ricka's soul and take permanent control of her body.
  • Team Pet: Like the Chibi Nine-Tailed Fox, she ends up sticking with the club after her debut story arc, if mainly to try and find more ways to turn Ricka into Mistress Swan.

    Mistress Swan
A master of ice magic from ages past, who was engaged to the first wielder of the Kamuy, Kamuy-rakkur...until he left her for a former wielder of the Izumo. Swan's power remains in an ancient necklace, which Koropokkur gifts to Ricka, allowing Swan to possess her and provide her ancient guidance...as well as to fight with Akari over Kazuki.
  • An Ice Person: Possesses the same type of Ice Jutsu as Ricka, but is even stronger due to her divine nature. Ricka's own Ice Powers get a boost after Mistress Swan ascends due to being her chosen vessel.
  • Demonic Possession: Thanks to Koropokkur, she attempts to do this with Ricka, but their difference in power makes it hard to control her body for long periods of time. On one hand, Ricka's Ice Jutsu becomes extremely powerful, but Mistress Swan threatens to eclipse Ricka permanently once her soul gets adjusted to Ricka's body.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Saving the Ninja Seeking Club from the Yatagarasu Assassin uses up all her power, and causes the necklace, her last link to the living world, to crumble to dust.
  • History Repeats: The season in which she's present has Ricka (her vessel) and Akari (the current wielder of the Izumo) as the two competing love interests.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Continuously addresses Kazuki as his ancestor Kamuy-rakkur, up to and including wanting to wed him. She reveals before her sacrifice that she knew he was a different person all along, but wanted one last chance at love before her spirit faded away.
  • Woman Scorned: Kazuki's ancestor Kamuy-rakkur was her lover until he relocated to main-land Japan in order to be with Akari's ancestor. The sight of Akari and the Izumo infuriates Mistress Swan to no end since it is a reminder of her beloved's infidelity.

    Girl with Cute Forehead
An unnamed, portrait-less girl from The College Years. In addition to being a member of Yamabuki's manga club, she works at the same Maid Cafe as Ricka. Additionally, she's quite interested in magic, even though most of her "spells" are merely superstition or the result of her being scammed...
  • Dramatic Irony: Towards the end of TCY Season 3, we actually see her attending a seminar on magic by herself, after the Ninja Seeking Club tire of her superstitions and decide not to join her...and it's being led by Fausta, an actual mage and the Club's current enemy.
  • No Name Given: She never states her real name, nor do the protagonists ever ask for it.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She's just a gag character for the first three seasons of TCY, but in the fourth, Fausta uses her gulliability and love of magic to infiltrate the school festival and set the stage for the arc's final battle.

Spirit of the Yata no Kagami
The divine spirit of the mirror, contacted in The College Years Season 4 in order to overcome Fausta's powers.

    Izanami
The goddess of the land of the dead.
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: She's infuriated by Fausta dipping into her domain and using the dead as her minions, but considers dealing with her personally to be demeaning, and thus merely gives the Ninja Seeking Club a power-up.
  • Symbiotic Possession: She's only able to communicate by channeling herself through Waka, even within her own realm.

    The Siren
A winged humanoid that first appeared in the "International Ninja Clash!" Spin-Off, who the MEA is ordered to investigate and detain, requesting the Ninja Seeking Club's assistance in doing so. However, she turns out to be harmless; in fact, she would have been in grave danger if not for their timely aid.
  • Our Sirens Are Different: She's of the feathered-winged variety, with a supernaturally alluring voice.
  • Rescue Romance: After she's rescued from a wild beast by Johnny (with help from Yozuki), they genuinely enjoy each other's company before Johnny has to return to Japan and she's kept in MEA observation. They're officially dating as of The College Years Season 3, and she visits Japan for the cultural festival of Mizaki City University in the normal ending of The College Years.

Spin-Off Exclusive Characters

    Skinhead Fan
Only appears in the "Tengge's Swimsuit" story, earned by participating in enough Ninja Fights. He's a bald, rough member of Tengge's fanclub that accuses Kazuki of stealing her swimsuit, though it turns out he stole it himself and framed Kazuki out of jealousy.
  • Driven by Envy: His sole motivation was because Tengge treated Kazuki better than all of the other guys at school, particularly himself.

    Art Teacher
Only appears in the "Yamabuki's Yes-Man" story, earned by participating in enough Ninja Fights. She's an instructor at Mizaki School, who tries to sabotage Yamabuki's manga-writing process because she thinks the "filthy" art will give the school (mostly her class) a bad reputation.

    Researcher
The main antagonist in the “Erotic Park” story.

    Carla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dbc1e82d_7e8b_4a81_9d61_e10fd0f295f8.png
Only appears in the "The Legendary Ninja" stories, earned in a 2020 limited-time event of the same name, or as part of the 2020 Ninja Side Story. The last surviving member of Tsukuyomi (supposedly), she has a grudge against Kazuki from back in his youth, when he was responsible for single-handedly destroying the organization.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Her father is Shuya, the leader of Tsukuyomi. In "The Legendary Ninja 2", he turns out to be alive, but is pursuing his own vengeance in a dishonorable way, leading Carla to fight against him.
  • Ascended Extra: She played a bit part in the original version of "The Legendary Ninja", as most of it focuses on Kazuki's past instead of her grudge against him. However, the Side Story expansion includes a sequel that focuses more on her.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Originally seeks to end Kazuki's life to get her revenge. By the time of the sequel story, the Ninja Seeking Club consider her repeated attacks to be akin to training exercises, and grow concerned when her daily attacks suddenly stop. And by the sequel's end, Carla is as sad to part ways with them as they are.

    Tsukuyomi
Led by the enigmatic Shuya, Tsukuyomi is a secret ninja organization featured in the "The Legendary Ninja" story. Seeking power, they recruited a young and more headstrong Kazuki into their ranks. However, after they razed a town for wanting to abandon the ninja ways to live ordinary lives, Kazuki gained a conscience and turned against them.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: Because Tsukuyomi valued cutting all emotional ties to gain power, they had no concept of teamwork. They got in each other's way when fighting Kazuki, leading to the young ninja to eliminate almost the entire gang in one fight.
  • I Have Your Wife: To make a girl stop resisting her captors after they take over her village, one of the elite members threatens to kill her big brother. When he decides to go through with it even after she submits as part of her "cutting all emotional ties" initiation, Kazuki is disgusted, kills the elite, and saves the brother's life.
  • Not Quite Dead: Kazuki recalls eliminating almost the entire gang in one battle, but "The Legendary Ninja 2" shows that there's quite a few surviving remnants, including their leader.
  • Psycho Serum: In the sequel story, Shuya turns out to be alive, and uses one of these in order to gain the power to kill Kazuki. When his daughter Carla interferes, he tries to kill her as well.

    Kuey
Only appears in the "20,000 Leagues of Terror" portion of the 2020 "Cthulhu Mythos" limited-time event. He's a small flapjack octopus who washes up on the beach where the NSC is hanging out, and Nanao decides to adopt him, only for a series of strange disappearances to start occurring in the neighborhood soon after...
  • Sleep-Mode Size: The events of the side-story's "Moe!" ending imply he was secretly one for Cthulhu himself.

    Epilogue Characters (Spoilers!)
At the end of every character's epilogue, a new character is introduced: the child that Kazuki and the chosen heroine have after a Time Skip. Their names are as follows: Matsuri (Akari), Shumei (Enju), Mizuka (Ricka), Towa (Myu), Hanna (Tengge), Uika (Yamabuki), Anri (Lily), Yui (Nanao), and Hinowa (Hotaru).
  • Ascended Extra: Hanna, who makes an appearance as a grown-up time-traveller in TCY.
  • Babies Ever After: Kazuki ends up having a child with the chosen heroine in every epilogue.
  • Generation Xerox: Every single one of them is a girl that looks near-exactly like her mother.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: While Ricka loves eating fried noodle hotdogs nonstop, her daughter, Mizuka, is tired of eating so much of them and would rather eat something else, which shocks Ricka.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Anri is the most mature child out of the other possible children. She addresses her parents as "mother" and "father" while the others call them "mommy" and "daddy" or "mama" and "papa", and she shows respect to her parents and other adults. During the meeting of the Ninja Alliance, when Kazuki isn't paying attention during the meeting because he's worried that Anri might disrupt it, he and Lily are shocked to discover that not only was Anri paying attention to the meeting, but she's able to recall what they said perfectly. But despite her mature behavior, she still acts like a kid and Myu thinks she's the way she is because of how Kazuki and Lily are a balanced pair.

    "The Incubus"
Only appears in the "Bookie's Dream Utopia" Cookie Collection event. A criminal who's escaped the MEA's clutches, who ends up trapping Kazuki, Yamabuki, and Beretta in a world based on Yamabuki's fantasies.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Having been permitted to read Yamabuki's doujinshi while in captivity, he broke out with the express purpose to meet her and get a look within her mind. Once he's in there, he immediately runs into a personification of her Yaoi Fangirl side, and by the time Kazuki and Beretta find him, he begs them to get her to stop dressing him up in shameless outfits and posing for her.
  • Dream Weaver: He has a unique power to craft pocket dimensions out of the subconscious minds of others, which he has mainly used for Power Perversion Potential.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: He's noted in-story to have effeminate long hair, and his "portrait" is actually a shadowed-out version of Sakurako's.
  • Power Perversion Potential: He earned the moniker "The Incubus" for being rather "handsy" while invading the dreams of women.

    Azure Calamari
The antagonist of the "New Obnubi vs. MEA" Spin-Off story. A man from the Western world who's discovered magic, becoming an archmage that's now terrorizing Japan with squid "Malus" (a being created from majutsu-magic), leading to the MEA teaming up with a reformed Obnubi to take him down.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He boasts about his magical power, but as soon as his Kraken is defeated by the combined efforts of MEA and Obnubi, Yamabuki knocks him out with a single punch.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In "The New Ninja Seeking Club!" Spin-Off, three of the four school mysteries that Myu wants to investigate (a ghostly girl, a room that shouldn't exist, and a door that only opens at midnight) all turn out to be part of Waka's scheme to skip school. However, the fourth is about a flying squid, and the story ends with a shadowy figure being dismayed that they can't hide out at the dorms as well before turning into a squid and flying off. Sure enough, the next major spin-off properly introduces the squid-themed (and naughty towards schoolgirls) Azure Calamari.
  • Kraken and Leviathan: He specializes in summoning squid-like familiars, with the giant one he creates when confronted by Enju and the others actually called a Kraken.
  • Magic by Any Other Name: "Majutsu-magic" is, as MEA explains in The College Years, more akin to the ninjutsu techniques already seen in the story than pure spellcraft.
  • Meaningful Name: Calamari is another word for squid, the familiar he's associated with.
  • Naughty Tentacles: His creations have a rather nasty habit of groping at the sensitive areas of ninjas, as well as coating them with a stinky, sticky substance instead of regular ink.
  • Starter Villain: Became one retroactively when the villain of The College Years is revealed to be Fausta, his superior in the Black Mage Guild whose "Malus" creations are legitimately dangerous rather than just perverted.

    Mikey Jaaku
The antagonist of the "LAST NINJA" cookie collection event. Taking advantage of Kazuki being worn out by stress from college finals and the girls in his life competing for his attention, he kidnaps the legendary ninja in order to take his title, despite having no ninja skills to back it up.
  • Basement-Dweller: He still lives with his mother, and his minions are just his two friends who he plays Poker and Twister with.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Despite his ego and willingness to harm others, he's utterly incompetent as a villain, with his traps being easily avoided or escaped from and him unable to take a single hit in a direct fight against the man he kidnapped.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He thinks he's entitled to the legendary Kamuy and the fame that comes with it just because his ancestors once helped Kikuko find the sword when she accidentally lost it during a trip through their lands.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He may be utterly incompetent, but Mikey successfully kidnapping Kazuki during a moment of weakness and then convincing all of the Ninja Seeking Club to rescue him by gloating about it is what finally helps Kazuki realize that he legitimately loves all of the girls and can't picture a future where he's in a relationship with just one of them.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: Once Kazuki is able to fight back and learns just how illegitimate Mikey's claim to the Kamuy is, Mikey's immediately hit by his uppercut that turns him into this.
