Doppels

    open/close all folders
    General

Doppels are the materialization of despair of the magical girls in Kamihama City. A magical girl who has gained control over her despair may call out her doppel to attack her enemies during battle, causing massive damage. Doppels are actually materializations of the Witch forms of magical girls. Kamihama's special properties mean that magical girls simply summon their Witch in its Doppel form instead of becoming full-fledged Witches themselves. Doing so also cleanses their Soul Gems.

  • Arc Words: As with the Witches, the Doppels are also have two main lines of description, but reversed - instead of Witch of X; her nature is Y, it's Doppel of Y; her form is X, putting more emphasis on the Doppel's owner's personality.
  • Body Horror: It's explained that older girls are less likely to "separate" from their Witch form when summoning a Doppel. This is because those living as magical girls for a long time and of relatively older ages have a narrower range of their emotions. Fittingly, many older magical girls have Doppels that fall into Body Horror.
    • Yachiyo's transformation to Campanella isn't pretty. Her arms grow longer and become the Doppel's legs while her left leg twists backward to form the Doppel's tail, which grows several eyes on it.
    • Mifuyu's Doppel Hevelius is said to be transformed from its master's tongue and arms. She can't talk while she has it active.
    • Ikumi's Doppel Sylvie is full of Eye Scream, not to mention that her entire lower body is fused to the Doppel.
    • Beatrice, Felicia's Doppel, appears to be made out of her innards.
    • Averted with Mami, as Candeloro simply manifests itself as a living bonnet that Mami wears.
    • In the anime, girls that contract Doppel Syndrome are fused to their Doppels and are left as monstrosities. Kaede, in particular, is mutated into a creature made of Zola’s rotting moss, complete with a rib cage and bloated abdomen with her human legs sticking out of the torso.
  • The Corruption: In the anime, if a Puella Magi overuses her Doppel and doesn’t work with a Adjuster, their Doppel can go berserk and then fuse with the Magi, leaving her a monstrosity that is not that different from a Witch.
  • Creepy Good: They are essentially tamed Witches. Although they still exhibit their trademark Deranged Animation and generally unsettling mannerisms, they're being used for good instead of evil.
  • Defence Mechanism Superpower: A Doppel can only be summoned when a magical girl's Soul Gem is fully tainted, meaning they're out of magic. Use of Doppels cleans the Soul Gem afterwards.
  • Guardian Entity: Doppels are this to their magical girls, as they attack on their behalf. Many magical girls summon their Doppels as a separate entity, though they're usually attached to the magical girl somehow.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Similarly to Homulilly in Rebellion, Doppels are capable of sealing their hosts into dream worlds in the anime, such as when Giovanna tried to seal Iroha into her dreams. It is theorized that this is also the fate of Kaede and all the other girls that contracted Doppel Syndrome.
  • Meaningful Name: Many Doppels have names that reflect the characteristics/wish of their magical girl or their own appearance/characteristics.
  • One-Winged Angel: Certain Doppels manifest less as Guardian Entities and more as parts of the magical girl's body. Yachiyo's Doppel is a good example, as some of her body parts are replaced by those of her witch. It is explained that older girls are less likely to "separate" from their Witch form when summoning a Doppel.
    • Homura takes it even further, as her Doppel Homulilly completely fuses with her body, giving her the appearance of a full Witch.
  • Shout-Out: A number of Doppels (in name and/or description) are references to the works of Kenji Miyazawa, a Japanese poet who wrote a great number of children's stories.

    Abigail

Abigail

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_103000_l.png

Owner: Hagumu Azumi

Nature: False bravado

Form: Reversible garment

Despite knowing about the beings called Doppels, the master of this emotion is still paralyzed with fear upon seeing this representation of herself that appeared from within her heart. In contrast to its master, who displays her full power against witches, her Doppel’s inner lining boasts lethal capabilities against other Puella Magi. But since its personality is similar to its master’s, if it’s summoned in the heat of battle, it immediately panics and assumes a defensive posture. Incidentally, its master closes her eyes out of fear whenever her Doppel manifests, so she’s never gotten a good look at it. Any enemies will have vanished by the time she opens her eyes, so she admires the Doppel considerably.
  • Meaningful Name: Her Doppel is named after Abigail Williams, the first witch accuser of the Salem Witch Hunt. While it's generally agreed by historians that Abigail was an ordinary girl who just happened to accuse people of doing witchcraft, because of the osmosis from The Crucible, Abigail Williams is better known as "a witch who accuse innocents of being a witch so they'll get executed". Abigail is a Doppel/Witch that is super effective against magical girls.

    Akakiy

Akakiy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akakiy.png

Owner: Mito Aino

Nature: Unity

Form: Coat

The master of this Doppel wishes for beautiful friendships to last for eternity. This Doppel answers that desire by compressing everything it captures into a single concentrated lump, which turns into an unbreakable crystal that will shine for thousands of years. Attacks by the Doppel are made by crystallizing its master's emotions, but continued use of this power causes even the master's memories to harden, making it impossible to create new ones.
  • Meaningful Name: 'Akakiy' means 'Ugly', but it also means 'benevolent', referring to Mito's character.
  • Shout-Out: Like the other Apartment Trio Doppels, its name and form refers to Nikolai Gogol, in this case his novel The Overcoat (the protagonist is named Akaky).
  • Taken for Granite: This Doppel has the ability to turn anything, even immaterial things like memories and emotions, into quartz.

    Andreana

Andreana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_301100_l.png

Owner: Kako Natsume

Nature: Mistaken steps

Form: Cutter

The master of this emotion fears her Doppel, as it unreservedly swings its blade to chop up everything in sight– even her precious books. Inwardly, though, she also feels a sense of release that she can’t quite describe. Unlike its ever-fearful master, the manifested Doppel chops with its guillotine without ever stopping to think. In addition to its target’s physical body, it shreds any and all magical connections they have. This Doppel can only attack physically from very close range, and sometimes slashes at its allies by mistake, so it tends to leave itself open to attack. But the master of this emotion cannot control it, and so can only remain frozen in fear.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Doppel was vaguely alluded to during Madoka's Valentines story as part of a nightmare Kako had.

    Antonio

Antonio

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maki_kaoru_doppel.png

Owner: Kaoru Maki

Nature: Hot-Blooded

Form: Minotaur-Shaped

The master of this emotion bears a strong sense of responsibility, putting care of others before care for herself. Her Doppel sees defeating an opponent in battle as its own personal “goal”, and until it crosses that goal line, it’ll relentlessly charge forth like a fighting bull. It focuses purely and completely on its goal, without giving anything else a single glance. No matter how many blows it receives along the way, it’ll never show its back to its enemy, and the blood that gushes forth from its wounds boils hot like magma. Once it passes by, a scorching trail like the mark of a branding iron will surely be left in its wake.

  • My Blood Runs Hot: The blood that comes from his wounds are described as boiling like magma.
  • Shout-Out: This Doppel is themed around Spanish bullfighting and it is even named after San Antonio.

    Aodamo

Aodamo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natsu_1.png

Owner: Natsuki Utsuho

Nature: Encouragement

Form: Megaphone-Shaped

The master of this emotion believes her Doppel to be a beneficial presence that embodies her personal qualities, and doesn’t yet know that it’s a dangerous being that wrings every bit of use it can get out of those it cheers on. The Doppel’s main body is surrounded by hovering ghosts, meant to mesmerize those it cheers on and force them to fight until they drop dead. Once someone is possessed by a ghost, they will serve as a meat shield to guard the Doppel’s master until death.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the anime, it forcibly fuses itself with Natsuki (presumably due to overuse) and mutates her into a creature presumably with Body Horror (her sole appearance obscures part of her appearance, so it's hard to tell if there was an adaptational appearance change), getting her put in the Doppel Isolation Ward.
  • Meaningful Name: The aodamo is a tree that is often used for sports equipment, as its wood is tough yet flexible enough for it to be bent into various shapes.

    Apebis

Apebis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ebony_doppel.png

Owner: Ebony

Nature: Skepticism

Form: Vulture

The master of this emotion has been forced to live a life of obedience to the queen since birth. But when she realized that there were other ways to live, she was tormented by conflict. This Doppel always creates fluctuations due to such conflicts, and by flapping its wings, it spreads to the surroundings and causes confusion in the heart. The hesitation quickly expands, creating various binary oppositions such as joy and sorrow, hope and resignation, respect and contempt, and causing chaos. Finally, when it reaches a critical point, chaos overflows and takes everything with it into impermanence.

    Aztekium

Aztekium

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1576011644997.png

Owner: Shigure Miyabi

Nature: Reservation

Form: Cactus

The master of this emotion, whilst constantly cautious of others, has no real means of actually fending for herself. As a result, she can do nothing to resist this existence, born from her, protecting her. With its razor-sharp needles and tough skin, this doppel is similar to its master, hell-bent on defending itself. It isn't built offensively, but every time it receives external stress, another switch is flipped and another hooped binding is undone. When it turns on completely, there is no stopping the railgun from launching, obliterating all obstacles. When the target of this master's emotions of aversion and the source of this doppel's stress are one and the same, the accuracy increases exponentially.

    Beatrice

Beatrice

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beatrice_8.png

Owner: Felicia Mitsuki

Nature: Tumult

Form: Eyelid

The master of this emotion falls into a deep sleep when this Doppel appears, and doesn’t lay eyes upon anything it learns. While its master is asleep, her Doppel cries tears of mud from its vacant eye, covering up and re-painting everything inconvenient to her. This Doppel is likely to awaken when its master requires the power to smash reality to pieces.

  • Awful Truth: Whenever Felicia summons her Doppel, it puts her to sleep to prevent her from seeing anything while it's active. Anything it encounters that goes against Felicia's worldview or beliefs gets covered with mud and smashed. This helps her avoid learning the truth behind her wish, which is probably for the best.
  • Meaningful Name: Its name refers to Beatrice Cenci, an Italian woman who murdered her abusive father with a hammer, along with the rest of her family.

Beatrice (Felicia-chan ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/felicia_chan_doppel.png

Owner: Felicia-chan

Nature: Mixture

Form: Butter

The master of this emotion falls into a deep sleep when this Doppel appears, and doesn’t lay eyes upon any of the manufacturing methods that it learns. While its master is asleep, her Doppel sprays cow’s milk from its vacant eye onto a bed of rock salt, and vigorously mixes it. The resulting butter adds a dash of saltiness and rich flavor to any dish, and pairs best with baked potato. If you haven’t been having much luck making buttered potato at home, perhaps it’s because you’re using unsalted butter?
  • Flavor Text: The text written on it reads "Please don't wake me up", referring to Felicia falling asleep whenever she summons her Doppel.

    Bella Donna

Bella Donna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_303100_l.png

Owner: Rika Ayano

Nature: Disclosure

Form: Truth Serum

The master of this emotion distrusts herself and others upon realizing that other people's hearts can easily be changed. This Doppel, knowing its master's feelings, therefore does not tolerate two-faced people. It asks people to confess their true feelings. Though at first it appears to be a beautiful shellfish, if it fails to persuade or discern someone's true feelings, it turns to inducing fear. And if that fails, it tries to use a truth serum, but the needle is so thick that anyone that it is administered to dies.

    Blot

Blot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gunhild_doppel.png

Owner: Gunhild

Nature: Estrangement

Form: Shipwreck

The master of this emotion has lost her sister who grew up with her like a twin tree, and thus is severely unbalanced in her psyche. The Doppel reacts to the destructive impulses born from that imbalance, and if anything approaches it, it uniformly strikes down and destroys it. Once it appears, it will scurry across the dark seas in search of prey until its dark emotions are dissipated. However, rest never awaits beyond that point.

    Bond Bomb

Bond Bomb

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bond_bomb.png

Owner: Himika Mao

Nature: Dissolution

Form: Bonds

The master of this emotion finds a sense of security by entrusting the dormant desires in her heart to her Doppel, which keeps them held in check. It transmutes her ego into a sphere, while her ties and obligations to her family become snakes binding it tightly together in place. The sphere yearns for freedom, but the snakes confining it are the only things maintaining its form. Were it to wrest itself free, the sphere would burst and fly away...but the master would never allow that to happen.

    Breadman

Breadman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/breadman_6.png

Owner: Sudachi Sawa

Nature: Nomadicism

Form: Cookie

The master of this emotion is anguished by the sight of her Doppel innocently playing without a mote of hesitation, as she feels that it is both a symbol of freedom and of guilt to her. This Doppel acts out of pure instinct as it freely floats and drifts around. Everything it does– yelling loudly, eating food, wrapping itself in lively colors– it does simply for its own enjoyment. No matter who it causes sorrow or pain to, it remains unaffected by this world’s concept of sin. Perhaps because it seems like an unblemished child at first glance, it gives off the impression of a pitiful being that can’t grow up, so the older its victims are, the more likely it is for sadness to take precedent over their terror.

Breadman (Valentine ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppelsudachival.png

Owner: Sudachi Sawa (Valentine ver.)

Nature: Nomadicism

Form: Cookie

The master of this emotion is disgusted by her Doppel who tries to be loved by others only by squealing, because it seems to symbolize her own naivety. Her Doppel acts according to its own instincts, only being conscious of what makes it easy for itself, and always asking someone else to help it without making any effort. It is futile to seek repayment for it, and no matter how much you help and love it, the Doppel will just drift away in fluff. The master, who strives to connect people with others, is even more complicated when she sees her Doppel who is able to gather people simply by dressing up and making adorable noises.

    Broderie

Broderie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_300100_l.png

Owner: Yayoi Kanoko

Nature: Torn Doppel

Form: Thread-trimmer shaped

The master of this emotion loathes her Doppel, which wields the exact opposite ability to her own. Her Doppel is able to loosen the seams of anything it touches. Once it uses a tiny bit of magic to open up a small tear, it can widen that tear to destroy any object, or even any concept– a truly fearsome power to display. However, this Doppel only seems interested in destroying its master’s own creations. It exclusively targets and ruins things she’s already worked to stitch together. Additionally, this Doppel boasts abnormally strong self-replication abilities despite its low supply of magic, and in comparison to the magic that it retains via its overwhelming conservation of energy, its body is extremely large.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: This Doppel is one of the largest in the game, dwarfing even Homulilly and Gretchen- though it’s probably not nearly this big as a witch.

    Campanella

Campanella

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/campanella_7.png

Owner: Yachiyo Nanami

Nature: Admittance

Form: Ticket Puncher

The master of this Doppel dreams of the day she will begin her journey, following in the footsteps of all the friends she has parted from. The light from the lantern at the end of this Doppel's tail can call forth a myriad of illusions, and the scissors are said to cause great devastation in the near futures of those who have been harmed by them. As Magical Girls get older, their emotional range becomes smaller, and such is the case for this master, who cannot separate her body from her Doppel.

  • Shout-Out: Campanella is the name of the secondary lead in Night on the Galactic Railroad.
    • Its resemblance to a scorpion is a reference to a fable told in the story of a scorpion trapped in a well who, recounting its life spent eating others to survive, regretted not being able to give its life for others. As it was dying, it wished to become a beacon to help others find true happiness other death, and thus it was raised into the sky as the constellation Scorpio. Like the scorpion, Yachiyo believes that she has only lived by sacrificing others.

Campanella (Tanabata ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_120200_l.png

Owner: Yachiyo Nanami (Tanabata ver.)

Nature: Admittance

Form: Ticket Puncher

The master of this emotion stands on the bank of the Heavenly River, unable to cross it until her life runs out, and gazes across to see the shadows of friends whose departures she once saw off.

Her Doppel, believing itself to have received the role of a Tanabata magpie, attempts to help its master as she searches for her old friends’ visages. It uses the lantern on its tail to illuminate the starry river, projecting it in vivid detail.

But because this Doppel lacks the power to actually aid in their reunion, it can only fly to and fro through the heavens while holding on to a wish that’s impossible to grant.

Campanella (Fairy Tale ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_140200_l.png

Owner: Yachiyo Nanami (Fairy Tale ver.)

Nature: Admittance

Form: Ticket Puncher

By accepting the fictional character she once performed as a part of herself, the master of this emotion is constantly freezing and turning away from the hope that comes to her mind to always stand as the strong one. Her Doppel, the only one who is aware of this, tries to reduce her master's burden by sprinkling cold air around them and forcing those around her to confront their difficulties, but she can never keep up with the speed at which she freezes their hearts.

    Candeloro

Candeloro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/candeloro.png

Owner: Mami Tomoe

Nature: Invitations

Form: Dressing up

The master of this emotion trusts not in it and battles on, regardless of its presence. This Doppel is very small compared to other Doppels and always sits on its master's head, so the master is hardly aware of it. It is doubtful that they communicate, so its master fights normally while it supports her. It is small and looks unreliable, but its vines are powerful enough to penetrate any enemy.

Candeloro (Holy)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/holy_mami_doppel.png

Owner: Holy Mami

Nature: Worship

Form: Halo

The master of this emotion clung to the salvation that was offered to her after her darkest night of despair, and obtained a new miracle with which to overcome the fear and anxiety she would have otherwise found unbearable. Thanks to this change in its master’s mentality, this frail Doppel’s form has been altered from what it once was, and it wishes to save its master as she saves others in kind. Its "Tiro Saint-Doppelion” is a cannon salute that announces new hope to heartbroken girls.

Candeloro (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomoe_mami_mizugi_ver_doppel.png

Owner: Mami Tomoe (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Eternal Summer

Form: Cheerful

The master of this emotion is in very high spirits after making friends who fight beside her. Since she wants to be an exemplary role model, she tries to keep her cool around them. Perhaps because of this, the Doppel can't hide it's passionate, tropical look. By keeping a dangerous balance between the Doppel's unrestrained, explosive power and it's master's calm control over aiming, they have come to possess a formidable combat ability.

    Capricieux

Capricieux

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_402400_l_1.png

Owner: Minou

Nature: Cruelty

Form: Mischievous cat

The master of this emotion sets the stage of the battlefield like a conductor waving her baton.

It may take the form of a cat, but the depths of its mischevious grin are unimaginably dark, and a fearsome, insanity-laden instinct hides within its furthest reaches.

Its ninefold waving tails are each equipped with an implement of torture. Every time it waves its tails, the tails hunt and harm those who oppose it, and continue to do so until its victims can no longer move– much like how a cat simply plays with its prey, rather than hunting it.

    Carmela

Carmela

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurumi_manaka_doppel.png

Owner: Manaka Kurumi

Nature: Customer-gathering

Form: Propane

The master of this emotion is displeased with this Doppel, which can only produce poisonous meals due to the toxins that seep from its body. This Doppel uses the burners on the ends of its jellyfish-like tentacles to cook absolutely any ingredients into delicious poison meals, and forces its customers to enjoy a long stay in the seats that furnish its spherical glass head. The meals cooked by this witch have minds of their own, and are proactive in making surprise visits to customers’ stomachs, which makes it possible to enjoy one’s meal just by sitting in place. Incidentally, the meals may be poisonous, but they taste very good. But despite their taste, they make abundant use of suspiciously-produced ingredients, including mystery meat from unknown sources, moaning vegetables, and fruit that walks around on its own.

  • Lethal Chef: Subverted— its food is incredibly toxic, but it all tastes delicious.
  • Obvious Beta: Its original animation was bugged out and didn't have any visual effects and even spelled its runes wrong. This was fixed within a couple of hours.

    Carmen

Carmen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_403600_l.png

Owner: Tsubaki Mikoto

Nature: Avengement

Form: Torii gate

The master of this emotion is haunted by memories of her revenge in the form of nightmares to this day. This Doppel loathes the sworn enemy that drove its master’s fate off course and stole her loved ones from her, to an even greater extent than its master herself. Thus, it repeatedly shows past memories to her, pushing her to re-enact her revenge. Each time she enacts revenge, however, her enemy’s form is obscured by clouds and fades away, thereafter tormenting her as a mere nightmare and burning further feelings of loathing into her.

    Carola

Carola

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carola.png

Owner: Kazumi

Nature: Famine

Form: Dark cook

The master of this Doppel is much more particular about food than most. It wants to feed on anything within reach, and it does not care whether it eats Magical Girls or Witches. It is a chef born of the desire to eat itself, a Doppel of gluttony that devours all and returns it to nothingness. It has several plates prepared on its table at all times. Should you find yourself at its table on the battlefield, be careful you are not part of the meal…

  • Big Eater: A rather disturbing example. It's always hungry and will eat anything.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Carola will eat anything. Familiars, other magical girls, its own runes, anything.
  • Meaningful Name: Carola is named after an Italian version of Sleeping Beauty by Italo Calvino, in which the protagonist's name is Carola. Just as in the Grimm Brother's telling, the prince's mother tries to kill and cook Carola and her children, but instead of trying to eat them herself, she tries to serve them to the prince. In Magia Record, Carola is an Extreme Omnivore chef.
  • Off with His Head!!: It replaces Kazumi's head when it is summoned, and Kazumi's body just dangles there the whole time.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Carola has one with a distressed face on it. It uses the tongue to attack Kazumi's opponents.

Carola

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_finalkazumi.png

Owner: Kazumi Subaru

Nature: Hunger

Form: Gourmet

The master of this emotion has become more relaxed and forward-looking, thanks to her existence being affirmed. This Doppel has become more relaxed along with her: no longer driven by pure greed towards food, it can sit back, chew that which it puts in its mouth, and enjoy the flavors fostered by the food’s ingredients. That being said, it’ll still cook anything it can get its hands on– Puella Magi, witches, or whatever else– and stuff the result into its body. But it’s become more refined than it was before, and no longer sprays bits of food in the vicinity. Its table is only set with one single plate for itself.

    Cassandra

Cassandra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_105300_l.png

Owner: Amaryllis

Nature: Prophecy

Form: Balance Scales

The master of this emotion can see the future of people by looking at this Doppel in the form of a balance scale. To ensure the objectivity of the prophecy, the Doppel is composed mainly of inorganic objects, with one of the balance's plates engraved with "hope" and the other plate engraved with "despair". On the plates are placed the weight of the lives that will be saved and the lives that are not, but since these cannot be seen by anyone save the master, few listen to the master's prophecies. This is a curse placed on those who have killed the heart of a single girl in exchange for a prayer to "save everything".

  • The Cassandra: Naturally.
  • Meaningful Name: Cassandra is a mythical seer from Classical Mythology cursed by Apollo to have always true prophecies but never be believed. Not only does the Doppel's description mention its master receiving prophecies that aren't believed, but the magical girl herself is from ancient Rome, the same period that tale comes from.

    Casuarius

Casuarius

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yakumo_mikage_doppel_100_3.png

Owner: Mikage Yakumo

Nature: Tantrum

Form: Chick

The master of this emotion has a strong heart that is not easily shaken, but the one thing that frustrates her is her own youth. Since she and her Doppel are similar in this regard, she cannot bring herself to like it. This young Doppel likewise hates itself, as it hasn’t yet matured enough to freely control its limbs, and is incapable of doing anything besides beg for food. As such, it’s irritated by its master’s own youth as well. It builds up stress from the moment it’s born, and relieves said stress via loud, constant chirping. But when its stress reaches its peak and explodes, the Doppel breaks free from its shell, leaping around wildly and leaving hideous scratch marks on everything in sight. When its master’s stress is added on top of that, the carnage is said to become even worse.
  • Meaningful Name: Casuarius is the scientific name for the cassowary family of flightless birds. Cassowaries are known for being extremely temperamental and hostile birds. Much like cassowaries, Mikage's Doppel attacks by kicking.

    Catacombe

Catacombe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catacombe.png

Owner: Kanagi Izumi

Nature: Demolition

Form: Soot Lion

The master of this emotion is coolheaded, but her Doppel is burning with endless rage. Its form is a rampaging lion that rends all around it to pieces with its gnashing teeth. It refuses to forgive the smallest of injustices and demolishes anything it deems irrational. Strictness incarnate, it may target others simply for living in Kamihama, so its master must take care when summoning it, less it hurt her allies. If she continues to use this Doppel, she will gradually become unable to forgive even the most minuscule inequality. It may be uncontrollable, but she half-agrees with the lion.

  • Black-and-White Insanity: Even the smallest injustice is answered by its inexhaustible fury, to the point where simply being a resident of Kamihama, with its social prejudices, can make one a target of its wrath. And the more that Kanagi uses it, the more she shares in this.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Is possessed by an all-consuming rage and refuses to forgive any injustice.
  • Shout-Out: This doppel is a reference to "The Cat Office", a short story by Kenji Miyazawa (whose works inspired a number of other Doppels). The story is about a cat who works at an office with other cats (as if they were humans). Since the cat gets cold easily he sleeps in the fireplace. This causes him to be covered in soot, and so he is known in the story as the "soot cat". His co-worker cats look down on him for this, and ultimately bully the soot cat in the workplace. In the end of the story a lion, implied to be the boss of the cats, secretly observes the workers and reveals himself. He then declares that the office is shut down. The last line of the story is the narrator saying "I half-agree with the lion." (ぼくは半分獅子に同感です.)

Catacombe (Vampire ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izumi_kanagi_vampire_ver_doppel.png

Owner: Kanagi Izumi (Vampire ver.)

Nature: Demolition

Form: Soot Lion

The master of this emotion continually wanders in search of the answer to her mourning. In order to help its master find that answer, this Doppel takes the feelings towards death that are held by visitors lured in by Halloween merriment, and finely dismantles said feelings before serving them to its master. Breaking them down into small pieces makes them no easier to swallow, however, so its master is likely to get indigestion, and continue to distance herself from the answer. When the Doppel tires of dismantlement, it secretly uses the tip of its scythe to carve jack-o’-lanterns and so forth outside of its master’s view.

Catacombe (Eternal Darkness ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_121600_l.png

Owner: Kanagi Izumi (Eternal Darkness ver.)

Nature: Demolition

Form: Soot Lion

The master of this emotion is waiting for their Doppel to clear her sorrow with the destruction it gives. The Doppel tries to destroy everything while playing a requiem that sounds like wailing in order to build an equal paradise as an expression of their master's will. However, this is nothing more than dismantling, and although it can go to the limit of destruction, all that remains are empty corpses. Moreover, the Doppel, unaware of this situation, will go to the limit of destruction if equality is not realized, and it will continue to rampage until its strength is exhausted.

    Caterina

Caterina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misaki_umika_doppel_6.png

Owner: Umika Misaki

Nature: Last words

Form: Bookworm

The master of this emotion harbors a strong desire toward linguistic self-expression and the completion of stories. Fictional tales aren’t the only stories to exist. Everything in this world, across the entire expanse of creation, contains a story. And as long as those things continue to exist, their stories continue to be written. But by erasing the very existence of whatever being wove a particular tale, this Doppel brings that being’s story to an end. The pen is brought to a forcible halt, and none will appear to write a continuation.
  • Meaningful Name: References Catherine and her Destiny, an Italian fairy tale in which a woman named Caterina gets to choose whether she wants to be happy in her youth or in her old age. Upon choosing the latter, her destiny repeatedly sabotages her youth and ruins her early life, until she reaches an older age, and thus her personnified destiny helps her in attaining wealth and royalty.

    Cendrillon

Cendrillon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cendrillon.png

Owner: Rena Minami

Nature: Transformation

Form: Glass slipper

The master of this emotion uses its power to their utmost content. This Doppel enhances the transforming ability of its possessor manyfold, allowing her to transform into someone else for a certain amount of time. The result of this transformation is truer to the ideal image of the person than the actual person it is based on. However, because the transformation is so perfect, if it is used too much, the user is likely to lose track of their own identity. It turns the user into the ideal state of its target, so it sometimes appears slightly different from the original.

Cendrillon (Rena-chan ver.)

Owner: Rena-chan (Idol ver.)

Nature: Transformation

Form: Dropkick

The master of this emotion wields every last bit of its power for her own sake. This Doppel multiplies its master’s kick strength many times over. This allows it to forcibly shove her deep into enemy territory, which will (hopefully) transform her into the battle’s victor. However, if she makes frequent use of this too-powerful kick, she may eventually lose her original skeletal structure. Also, the bomb its master tosses is one of her own belongings.

  • Flavor Text: The text written on it reads "Return Deadline: Midnight", in reference to it being named after Cinderella.

    Charlotte

Charlotte

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlotte_2.png

Owner: Nagisa Momoe

Nature: Tenacity

Form: Sweets

The master of this emotion gets attached to people and objects as soon as they pluck her heartstrings. She may behave in a shameful manner at times, but in her heart is a well of deep love. This Doppel does not fuse with its host; rather, it emerges as a mask from her nose, which then covers her face completely. The host does not move while her Doppel is present. Instead she sits completely still and stares as though she were staring at the object of her obsession.

Charlotte (Valentine's ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_270000_l.png

Owner: Nagisa Momoe (Valentine's ver.)

Nature: Tenacity

Form: Melted chocolate

The master of this emotion always misidentifies the target of her tenacious attachment. Upon seeing a chocolate cake, she’ll surrender to its luscious brown temptation and try to swallow it whole, but will find her stomach filled with milk-white no-bake cheesecake instead. This Doppel sometimes responds to its master’s desire by deliberately going for the cheesecake in the first place, but on these occasions alone, it finds its stomach filled with actual baked cheesecake.

    Claudia

Claudia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_305400.png

Owner: Mitsune Miwa

Nature: Futile struggle

Form: Curtain rail

The master of this emotion is fond of her Doppel, as it makes for a convenient hiding spot. When her mind and body are exhausted from continually putting up a false front, she can hide within it to soothe herself. The Doppel is likewise vehement in hiding its true self, so it both understands its master’s feelings, and believes that the two of them share a common destiny as partners who have seen each other’s true nature. If anyone were to attempt to unveil what hides within, it would desperately fight back with both its sharp body and the curtains adorning it, and if anyone were to glimpse inside, it would not permit their survival under any circumstances. It’s said to sometimes dance about by itself when it’s in a good mood, but its master is the only known witness of this.

    Clothette

Clothette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clothette.png

Owner: Suzune Amano

Nature: Promises

Form: Kagerou

A flame blazes within the master of this Doppel. It rages with her desire for vengeance, affirming her bond with the woman who once took care of her. While its fiery pillar is meant to exterminate the Witches she loathes so much, it also scorches its host, who bears the burden of a callous fate. Perhaps the fact that it takes the form of a mayfly represents the brevity of its host's life? That may be why its bells reverberate through to the very souls of those who hear them. What does she see beyond the flickering flames? Only she who controls them can say.

  • Punny Name: Has the form of kagerou, which can either mean "heat haze" or "mayfly". Clothette is a giant flaming fly who burns Suzune if she uses it too much.
  • Self-Harm: Every time Clothette uses her flames, she also burns Suzune. This is likely due to Suzune's guilt over killing Tsubaki after she witched out.

    Columbina

Columbina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppelaimi.png

Owner: Aimi Eri

Nature: Dueling

Form: Lead

The master of this emotion feels sympathy between herself, who is unable to suppress her affection, and her Doppel, who carries her burning emotions inside its leaden body. This Doppel, like its master, is unable to suppress its affection and is unable to act honestly toward the person they love, which causes it to become embroiled in a duel to express its affection. Moreover, the more it see its partner suffering, the higher the voltage of its love rises, so it eventually burns out its intended partner with a heat of 6,000 degrees. The Doppel believes that it can make such a person melt not only their heart but also their body.

    Cuauhtitlan

Cuauhtitlan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_cuauhtihlan.png

Owner: Lavi Himuro

Nature: Benevolence

Form: Altar

The master of this emotion continues to pray in compassion with her Doppel, who tries to send her kind to a world of nothingness, free of sorrow and suffering. When the Doppel, who is highly sensitive, senses sorrow and suffering, she reflexively takes action to save her subject. It is a mixture of Doppel's aversion to bloodshed and her compassion to return nature to a world that does not need the emotion of nature, and those who are bathed in the fertility light emitted from her mouth are immediately reduced to ashes and become manure for the earth.
  • Mayan Doomsday: This is what it draws inspiration from- fitting for a Magi who wants to start an apocalypse.

Owner: Lavi Himuro (Kimochi ver.)

Nature: Benevolence

Form: Altar

The master of this emotion has lost their one key hope and has sunk into resignation, and now believes that annihilation is salvation. Sympathizing with this resignation, the Doppel wants to extinguish her beloved kindred before they experience sorrow and despair. It is a compassionate act of ending the curtain of life with a peaceful sleep, and those who are bathed in the light of benevolence emitted from her mouth are extinguished, disappear leaving no shadow or form behind and are released from their suffering. However, its master, who still holds hope in the innermost depths of her heart, imagines the end of it all with her Doppel and ponders.

    Cyan

Cyan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyan_5.png

Owner: Hinano Miyako

Nature: Imprudence

Form: Smog

The master of this Doppel is thrilled with its legs, which have grown much longer. It boils the contents of its right leg and condenses the contents of its left to cause the chemical reaction that forms its gaseous upper body. It therefore boasts a high resistance to physical attacks; however, it also envelops enemy and ally alike in its toxicity. Once it appears, its surroundings are contaminated by its gas, and even its master would likely not be able to withstand it if she did not wear a gas mask. It also has a strong curiosity for rare kinds of Witches.

  • Meaningful Name: "Cyan" is short for "cyanide," a potent poison. This reflects the Doppel's poisonous attacks.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Something Hinano is very proud of.
  • Walking Wasteland: Cyan is incredibly toxic to everyone and everything around it, whether they're friend or foe. Even Hinano would be poisoned were it not for her gas mask.

    Dee and Dum

Dee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dee_2.png

Owner: Tsukasa Amane

Nature: Disconnection

Form: Aquarium

The master of this emotion, free from being bound by her own environment or circumstances, drowns in affection for her other half as the one person who understands her. By using this Doppel, the two of them cut themselves off from all connections except theirs. As long as they stay within this tiny half-planet, they each only believe in what the other can sense; outsiders will never get through to them, no matter how many opinions one expresses or how overbearing an attitude one takes. The use of this Doppel shuts out the diverse values held by others, thereby stabilizing one’s mind, but as a side effect, their hold on society’s ethics will dwindle as well.

Dum

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dum.png

Owner: Tsukuyo Amane

Nature: Seclusion

Form: Terrarium

The master of this Doppel isn't swayed by mood or emotion. She does, however, rely on her other half, the only person who truly understands her. Through this, the two of them are capable of completely isolating themselves from the outside. Together in their miniature world, they need only the company of the other to survive. This Doppel shuts out all physical and magical phenomena, allowing its master to perfectly protect herself and her twin. Though doing so causes their memories of anyone but each other to fade away.

Dee & Dum (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amane_sisters_swimsuit_doppel_sprite.png

Owner: Amane Sisters (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Insulation and Disconnection

Form: Herbarium

In the end, having chosen to forget about all of the darkness that each of them holds, the masters of this emotion now spend their time dreamily playing in their own tropical resort. This Doppel normally refines moonlight into magic power, but with its masters’ hearts now captivated by the sun, it instead refines sunlight into power, and leaps to and fro in the cheerful summer air. But don’t be fooled! Its power leaps right over “troublesome,” and straight into “horrific disaster.” All those who touch it will be erased, transforming its surroundings into a pandemonic hell on Earth. Additionally, this Doppel is completely incapable of sensing its surroundings, so its heart will remain unmoved no matter how bitterly one screams at it.

    Delanna

Delanna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meiyui_doppel.png

Owner: Meiyui Chun

Nature: Comfortable sleep

Form: Towel

The master of this emotion notes nonchalantly that this Doppel is somewhat childish. A Doppel quite opposite its master's sharpness in its infantile manners, it only wishes to nap. When this desire is impeded, it flails about in tantrum, and cries and wails in a voice that destroys the eardrums of those who oppose it. When this Doppel yawns, all around it, whether friend or foe, are hit by an sudden and irresistible urge to sleep. Those who rest against its soft body are guaranteed to doze blissfully in a nap like no other.
  • Forced Sleep: As seen in Meiyui's training story, this Doppel is capable of putting everyone in its area of effect to sleep.
  • Meaningful Name: Delanna is a female name in Italy, means "Soft as wool".

    Don Rocinante
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_300400_l.png

Owner: Sasara Minagi

Nature: Pride

Form: Gorget

The master of this emotion is greatly pleased by her Doppel, believing it to be valiant and perfectly suited to her, but its gleaming silver body becomes frigid in winter and blazing hot in summer. The Doppel is just as proud as its master, standing tall and forthright in the face of any challenge. But because it holds all-but-pointless confidence in its strong, stalwart body, it often soldiers directly into the path of any attack that it may receive, and naturally suffers as a result. Its body also blesses its master as an impenetrable suit of armor, but since its master is equally prideful and often dashes forward to strike the finishing blow, the two of them can end up in a mutual struggle for control over it.
  • Shout-Out: A pretty obvious one to Don Quixote, as the name of this witch is a mix between Quixote's name and the name of his mount.

    Drekka Minni

Drekka Minni

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/olga_doppel.png

Owner: Olga

Nature: Loss

Form: Empty ship

The master of this emotion has lost her sister who grew up with her like a twin tree, and thus has a hollow heart. And, searching for the lost half of her body, she wanders aimlessly. The Doppel takes such a master on an endless journey with a purpose and no purpose exists. Only its master can board the ship, and if anyone else approaches the ship, their heart will be swallowed up by the waves, and it will follow this Doppel like a ghost.

    Ein Roter Drache

Ein Roter Drache

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ein_roter_drache.png

Owner: Eliza Celjska

Nature: Pride

Form: Raging dragon

The master of this emotion holds fierce pride in the Order of the Dragon, of which she is a member. This Doppel is likewise a manifestation of that fierce pride, and represents the primal nature that burns within her like a flame. It also connotes both the sense of responsibility with which she performs her duty in the Order, and the heavy pressure that accompanies it. When this dragon reveals itself, it will surely trample and devour the battlefield, showing unparalleled strength with its tyrannical might.

    Elfriede

Elfriede

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elfriede_1.png

Owner: Momoko Togame

Nature: Self-discipline

Form: Nails

The master of this emotion cares not where its power fly. This Doppel attacks with its huge fingers, along with the many fingers that fly around it. All the nails on its fingers are polished and decorated. It cares very much about its nails. Whens someone praises them, it becomes quite happy, but when someone says something bad about them, it gets discouraged and depressed. It is quite troublesome to deal with when this happens, so it is a good idea to let it attack the enemy as soon as you summon it.

Elfriede (Sister)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momoka_togame_doppel.png

Owner: Momoko Togame

Nature: Self-reproach

Form: Nails

The master of this emotion thinks that she needs to keep an eye on her Doppel so that it doesn’t fly off somewhere, due to its excess of Halloween cheer. This Doppel wants to show off its costume-adorned master to everyone, but since its master is constantly keeping an eye on it, it reproaches itself and tries to keep a low profile. When its master is in trouble, it tries to use its colorful nails to hide and shelter her within its pumpkin, but since it gets distracted by all the Halloween commotion, none of its attempts have been very successful.

    Elise

Elise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_403200_l.png

Owner: Matsuri Hinata

Nature: Dreaming

Form: Curtain

The master of this emotion desires a peaceful world. If one gazes at reality, they find it overflowing with things from which they’d rather avert their eyes. But if they put themselves in the hands of this Doppel, it’ll pull them far away from the tragic real world. It envelopes them as if shutting out the world outside, and will eventually entice them to sleep, but the only thing that awaits them is a dream bedecked with terror. The panorama that stretches out before them will intensely disturb and destroy their mind. Nobody ever said dreams are always enjoyable... This too is reality, in the end.

  • Shout-Out: To Mori Ougai's story The Dancing Girl.

    Elsie

Elsie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elsie_magiarecord.png

Owner: Akira Shinobu

Nature: Authenticity

Form: Pouch

The master of this emotion doesn’t think badly of her Doppel, but she certainly feels reluctant to let others see it. Her Doppel boasts a dual nature: its adorable external appearance gives off a feeling of warmth, from its frills and other accessories to even its color scheme, but its interior gives the polar opposite impression. When the pouch opens, adorable internal organs peek out in place of adorable pocket items, causing the blood of those who see it to run cold. The organs are also physically extremely cold, so anyone punched by them will be instantly frozen in place, both mentally and bodily. Incidentally, the Doppel itself doesn’t think that it’s causing the freezing.

    Enfant Terrible

Enfant Terrible

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_402700_l.png

Owner: Lapin

Nature: Sadism

Form: Weeping hare

The master of this emotion holds feelings of utter brutality in her heart.

It may appear to be an adorable rabbit, but one must take absolute care not to lower their guard near it. In reality, it’s the exact opposite of the impression its appearance may give off.

Should one be captured by it, they will be overwhelmed as if caught in the fangs of a wild beast, then innocently, playfully, and most cruelly tormented. Accompanied all the while by its pure and terrifying laughter, which resounds far and wide…

If one meets this fate, the only option left is to accept the fact that your luck has run out.

  • Cute Is Evil: Enfant looks like a rabbit, but is actually a complete sadist, just like Lapin.

    Etteilla

Etteilla

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_303700_l.png

Owner: Mel Anna

Nature: Disclosure

Form: Fortuneteller

The master of this emotion is both client and contractor. She believes her Doppel, which predicts one’s destiny in perfect clarity, to be her true inner power, and she does not deny any of the destinies it predicts. This Doppel is connected to its master’s wrist and back, and constantly measures her pulse in order to synchronize with it. By fully synchronizing their movements and senses, the two of them can predict an utterly unshakable destiny. The result of the prediction is displayed in the Doppel’s eye, and is determined by the type and direction of the tarot card shown within its pupil. Barring a truly extraordinary effort, it’s impossible for the master and Doppel to escape from a destiny they’ve predicted.
  • Meaningful Name: "Etteilla" was the pseudonym of Jean-Baptiste Alliette, an 18th-century French occultist who is credited for popularizing tarot readings for the general public.

    Frederica

Frederica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spoiler_doppel_302200_l.png

Owner: Mitsuru Inami

Nature: Perception

Form: Compound eyes

The master of this emotion is afraid of her Doppel because of her temperament to be concerned about the eyes of those around her. This Doppel with many eyes is truly an avatar of the public eye. When there is no one in sight, it has the appearance of a vivid flower garden, but those who are lured by its appearance and step into it are instantly shot through with countless gazes and are unable to move. If they continue to be stared at, events of self-doubt that they had forgotten about will fill their heads, and all they will be able to do is deny themselves. However, the countless eyeballs do not get along well with each other and start fighting, which gives them a chance to escape, Even the master gets scared and stops her Doppel, so there are surprisingly many people who can be saved.

    Gannishikudoku

Gannishikudoku

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gannishikudoku.png

Owner: Sayuki Fumino

Nature: Duty

Form: Shortsword

The master of this emotion is convinced that the excessive expectations and envy directed at her by others– that giant mass of selfish affection– are solely her responsibility to take on. This Doppel exists so that, when its master’s heart eventually becomes too worn-down to fulfill that obligation, it can assist her with her one final task. All of this Doppel’s power fundamentally exists for its master’s sake alone, but because of its merciful disposition, it also selects one lucky companion to receive the privilege of departing alongside its master. It’s very mistake-prone, and tends to accidentally send off only the companion, but that just adds to its charm.
  • Cool Sword: It has one, which is fitting considering Sayuki's love of swords.
  • Meaningful Name: "Gannishikudoku" (願以此功徳) is a term that is a passage of the Buddhist petition prayer about transferring merit ,"ekoge" which is also called "ekomon". This passage literally means "I wish, with the merit of my practice…." This may imply that it is somehow possible to associate some part of Buddhism with Japanese idols, for example, transferring merit or chanting.

    Gela

Gela

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_301900_l.png

Owner: Ayaka Mariko

Nature: Natural Stance

Form: Laughing bag

The master of this emotion keeps in her mind the days when she was a quiet person. This Doppel, who is constantly laughing, builds up stress in its body when something inconvenient for it appears. Then, when it turns the stress into laughter, it blows away what it does not want to see. The object of its stress is a thousand different things, as it keeps laughing whether it looks to the right or to the left. It may be in a bad mood about anything. It would be dangerous if it thought the world itself was the object of its laughter, but the master is sleeping peacefully in the bag, as if it had nothing to do with it.

    Gibdaughter

Gibdaughter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gibdaughter.png

Owner: Kanae Yukino

Nature: Resonance

Form: Hummingbird

The master of this emotion is fond of her Doppel's body, which reverberates well. The Doppel aligns the pitch of its singing voice to resonate with any physical object until it shatters. It is also likely to use its voice to oscillate the brains of organisms, then use high frequency sound waves to vibrate its beak, with which it pierces the hearts of its victims with great precision.

    Giovanna

Giovanna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giovanna.png

Owner: Iroha Tamaki

Nature: Silence

Form: Cuckoo

The master of this emotion is aware of how pitiful her Doppel is, and refuses to look at it. This Doppel wordlessly wraps around and strangles anything it doesn't want to hear as it continues its search for something to fill the hole in its heart. While it should be calling for someone, it is cowardly and afraid of acknowledging the reality it has concealed, and so it remains, silently covering its ears.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Giovanna's first awakening in the anime was a lot more violent than in the game. Aside from brutally mauling the Uwasa of the Seance Tablet to death, it later tries attacking Tsuruno before Mami arrives just in time to stop it. Later, while it can be argued that Giovanna was trying to protect Iroha in its own twisted way, its game counterpart also never tried to trap Iroha, and by extension, Yachiyo and Kuroe, in a dream world where Iroha was seemingly happy but with Ui still missing in said world, nor did it ever try to attack Iroha and co when they all tried to leave in the anime.
  • Foreshadowing: Other than the Shout-Out, 'Giovanna' means 'God is gracious'. Indeed, Iroha does become a goddess at the end of the second arc.
  • Irony: She's themed after a calling bird and yet her nature is "silent".
  • Shout-Out: Like Yachiyo's Campanella, Giovanna is named after a lead character in Night on the Galactic Railroad.

Giovanna (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/swimsuit_iroha_doppel_sprite.png

Owner: Iroha Tamaki (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Silence

Form: Cuckoo

While still searching for her lost sister, the master of this emotion is also slowly progressing on her journey to accept herself. Combined with how her heart has leapt in the glow of the summer sun, her Doppel has thus taken on a somewhat frivolous appearance. One can see how the Doppel’s robes and mast have been affected by her mood; really, one may even go so far as to say it’s being heavily swayed by its master’s spur-of-the-moment emotional state. A surface-level change, in short. Though it’s specialized for ocean battles, its master herself can’t swim, preventing it from making particularly nimble movements. It simply attempts to slay the enemies before it with an intense attack, using all the power it has available.

Giovanna (Infinite ver.)

Click here to see Giovanna Spoiler Alert

Owner: Infinite Iroha

Nature: Vocalization

Form: Emotion

The master of each and every one of these emotions works to collect the thoughts and feelings that overflow, while circulating them between herself and her Doppel. This Doppel can summon forth all emotions, but even if it were to mix all of those emotions together, they would not combine into a chaotic black. They form brilliant, white rays of hope, filled with the elements of light. Those who are bathed in the strongest of these rays will not only become unable to control their own emotions, but will even be dissolved at the atomic level, transforming them into raw energy with which to create a future... though they do appear to feel ultimate joy as well. However, because this Doppel maintains its body via a miraculous balance of conflicting emotions, it will vanish if its master's emotions veer too heavily in a particular direction, and will leave behind nothing but a guidepost pointing to tomorrow.

    Gosirsa

Gosirsa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_305800_l.png

Owner: Ryouko Natsu

Nature: Stalwart honesty

Form: Ox cart

The master of this emotion has faith in her honest, straightforward nature, but is also aware of how her own inflexibility may drive her into a corner in the future. Though this Doppel plows ahead with singular purpose, its sense of urgency overtakes its body and constantly puts it on the verge of tumbling forward. But thanks to the support it receives from its many wheeled arms, it will push onward until it physically cannot continue. Even if it meets with an obstacle, its buzzsaw arms will likely carve straight through. As such, this single-minded Doppel serves to reaffirm its master’s way of being.

    Gothel

Gothel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_104000_l_1.png

Owner: Yozuru Sasame

Nature: Courtship

Form: Tower

The master of this emotion once had love engraved within her, albeit tied to chains of grief. But after having carved part of herself away, she cannot directly feel it, and lives on with hollow freedom in a wide-open world. This Doppel is likewise unable to sense the love that it holds within. It devotedly seeks out those who will treat it with care, and upon finding someone whose magic or environment resembles its own, it captures them with its opened ribs and mercilessly attempts to squeeze them into itself. But no matter how hard this Doppel tries to incorporate its target, it can never fill itself with that which it seeks.
  • Chest Burster: It grows out of Yozuru's chest when she summons it.
  • Meaningful Name: The Doppel is named after Frau Gothel, a major character in the Brothers Grimm's tale Rapunzel; she kept a farmer's daughter locked up in a tower in exchange for food from their garden, to satisfy his pregnant wife's cravings. In particular, the Doppel's spine seems to be adorned with rampion bellflowers, from which Rapunzel was named after.

    Grim

Grim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mizuki_0.png

Owner: Rui Mizuki

Nature: Blindness

Form: Third Eye

The master of this emotion feels both joy at the manifestation of her hidden self, and a sense of release at the fact that she no longer needs to feign who she truly is.This Doppel will never hide nor mask itself; it bares its natural state for all the world, and will not forgive even a single word of intervention from others. Those who deny it will be roasted in pitch-dark hellfire by its opened eyes, and carved to pieces by its sword plummeting from the sky.It seems that this is actually meant to prevent anyone from dissuading its master, who’s particularly concerned about the way others view her, but the master herself is completely unaware of this. She simply becomes drunk with delight at the sight of it crushing her enemies.

    Halifax

Halifax

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/halifax.png

Owner: Ao Kasane

Nature: Unfavorable consequence

Form: Massed clouds

The master of this emotion projects an unfeeling veneer, but in fact feels very much. She is unable to relieve herself of the blame she feels over being pushed to harm others, and to escape from this predicament, she harms others again in turn, perpetuating a negative cycle. Upon capturing its master, this Doppel attempts to release her from that suffering by decapitating her, granting her a feeling of relief as she takes responsibility for just one brief moment. But since its master’s head contains a keen mind, she recognizes that this is merely a self-satisfying illusion. This internal conflict causes the unrelieved blame to coalesce into a single giant, which attempts to release its directionless emotions by taking them out on whatever’s nearby. Its master’s guilt will likely continue to amass itself, neither being condemned nor dissolving in the wind.
  • Meaningful Name: Halifax is a town in West Yorkshire, England that was home to a precursor of the guillotine, known as the Halifax Gibbet. Ao's Doppel is shaped like a guillotine which tries to decapitate her.

    Halomonas Titanicae

Halomonas Titanicae

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurusu_alexandra_doppel.png

Owner: Alexandra Kurusu

Nature: Longing

Form: Figurehead

The master of this emotion locked away her own love, and continues sleeping without ever putting it into words. Her Doppel is an avatar of unsinkability that emerges from the water’s depths, and refuses to allow anyone to give up on any kind of love. Upon seeing someone who it or its master is fond of, it puts their feelings towards that person into song while waving its wings and mast as part of the ultimate concert. If you don’t give any response after observing the performance, you’ll be sliced to ribbons by its lattice-shaped mast, so applauding is the safe option. But either way, listening to its song will cause the iron in your body to become oxidized and make you sick, so people say it’s best to just avoid listening in the first place.

  • Meaningful Name: Halomonas titanicae is a species of rust-eating bacteria first discovered on the wreck of the Titanic, from which it gets its name. Alexandra's Doppel takes the form of a ship's figurehead.
  • Morphic Resonance: Its appearance looks similar to Alexandra's weapon, her harp.

    Heide Jekyll

Heide Jekyll

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppelria.png

Owner: Ria Ami

Nature: Charisma

Form: Starfish

The master of this emotion longs to shine like the sun and be the center of attention. Sympathizing with this desire for recognition, the Doppel, seeking the highest beauty of the master’s longing, succeeds in creating a transparent body that encompasses a star-like molecular arrangement structure that replaces the master’s body. The luminous entity reaches out its tentacles in all directions to attract admirers of the new body, forcing it to gain devotees. If you try to escape, you will be skewered, but if you just say it’s cute, it will let you go.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_303000_l.png

Owner: Konomi Haruna

Nature: Forestation

Form: Leaf mould

The master of this emotion is under the impression that her Doppel uses a good power for the sake of spreading greenery. The Doppel’s body is composed of soil, and contains enzymes capable of decomposing any and all organisms. Those who touch it will rot away and entirely decompose, becoming nutrients to make the land abundant and fertile. The black, downy fluff that it launches by swaying its body will also cling to those it touches; should one touch it, they’ll be devoured in an instant by fast-growing roots and transformed into a plant.

    Henrietta

Henrietta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_101300_l.png

Owner: Asuka Tatsuki

Nature: Assault

Form: War drum

The master of this emotion is eager to become stronger through her Doppel's power. It energizes itself with the beat of its drum and sends out orders to turn its allies into valiant warriors. However, it also shares its master's hastiness, so once the order is given, its allies are forced to perform an act of utter disgrace against their will. Its reputation with its allies is terrible as a result of this unreasonableness. It is difficult to handle as, like its master, it attempts to kill itself after committing a blunder.

    Hepialidae

Hepialidae

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irina_kushu_doppel_7.png

Owner: Kushu Irina

Nature: Coveting

Form: Moth Shaped

The master of this emotion floats through dreams between sleeping and waking, yet continues to seek the light of the sun. This Doppel’s circular form symbolizes the very same sun that its master seeks, and it floats through the air in the hopes of brightly illuminating its vicinity. But despite scattering powder from its wings to illuminate its surroundings, each mote of dust only emits the faint light of a distant star, and cannot emit anything stronger than that. The unsatisfied Doppel attempts to make the powder shine brighter by firing its own rays of light, but the erratically-reflected light builds up excess energy, explodes, and catches its surroundings in the blast. Yet the Doppel is satisfied to see such a bright light, even if only for a brief instant.

    Hermes Trismegistus

Hermes Trismegistus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_402900_l.png

Owner: Pernelle Flamel

Nature: Alchemy

Form: Unified god

The master of this emotion divides, refines, and synthesizes purely in accordance with her curiosity. This Doppel embodies a unified divinity born from a heart that strives to reach mysticism’s highest peak, and bears the role of a messenger who links the mortal realm with realms beyond. As such, it can request intervention from higher dimensions to aid its master in times of crisis. But because its master believes that all things in nature are part of a closed Cycle, she interprets this dimensional rift as proof that the world still holds mysteries that her wisdom cannot describe. This deepens her curiosity ever further, and she often forgets to avoid the danger as a result.

    Hevelius

Hevelius

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hevelius.png

Owner: Mifuyu Azusa

Nature: Vocation

Form: Bird-catcher

The master of this emotion will use all powers at her disposal to stay alive in this reality, including this all-in-one Doppel. Countless bird-shaped minions known as "Sugar Geese" emerge from her shadows on the ground, attacking her foes on command. The mere touch of a Sugar Goose will cause its target to taste such sweetness that it will inspire a maddening addiction. This makes it easy to make targets accept most lies, even with just a few geese. The Doppel sprouts from the tongue and arms, so she cannot speak while using it.

  • Meaningful Name: Hevelius is a version of the name "Hawke". The doppel summons birds.
  • Shout-Out: Its description likely refers to a character from the famous Japanese novel Night on the Galactic Railroad (which Iroha and Yachiyo's Doppels also take their names from). The character, simply referred to as the birdcatcher, catches "cranes an' wild geese. An' herons an' swans, too" which somehow become cake or candy.

Hevelius (Fairy Tale ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_110600_l.png

Owner: Mifuyu Azusa

Nature: Vocation

Form: Bird-catcher

The master of this emotion has accepted the fictional being she once played as a part of herself, believing herself to be the bloodline of tyranny and the bringer of ruin to those around her. Therefore, the Doppel is trying to satisfy its master by setting herself on fire and burning away anything she touches in order to make reality more closely resemble the fiction. But it's difficult to burn away only reality, and not even fantasy remains after the flames have run their course.

    Homulilly

Homulilly (Glasses ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_homulilly.png

Owner: Homura Akemi

Nature: Closed circuits

Form: Mortal world

The master of this emotion leaps through time, cycling through countless bouts of trial and error. As she continually accumulates karma, she and her Doppel have almost entirely fused together. Her skin becomes glass, her expression is frozen like a doll’s, and she stoically continues attacking until her target falls silent. Even compared to other Puella Magi, it’s far too witch-like of a sight. In addition to manipulating time sand, this Doppel can extract information of low importance from the alien creature sitting on its hat, and solidify time sand into a replica of any weapon that exists on Earth.

  • More Dakka: Homura's Doppel uses the General Electric GAU-8/A Avenger, a military grade anti-tank cannon with a high rate of fire and a gun not meant to be carried by a human, to rain bullets on enemies. If anything, Magia Record nerfed it, because it neither has its actual audio nor its actual rate of fire in-game. The real-life GAU 8/A Avenger autocannon fires 30mm projectiles at a rate of 3900 rounds per minute, in a five-to-one mix of Armor-Piercing Incendiary (incendiary round with a depleted uranium penetrator) and High-Explosive Incendiary to rain hell upon anything in its crosshairs.

Homulilly (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/magireco_swimsuit_homu_doppel.png

Owner: Homura Akemi (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Closed circuits

Form: Near shore

In the midst of her trial-and-error journey through time, the master of this emotion made her way to this beach. Perhaps because she’s hopped up on the warm summer sun, her Doppel’s form is far more vacation-esque. With the mysterious techniques accessed from the alien creature secured on her sunhat, she can generate a palm tree that fires volleys of coconuts. Being struck with supersonic coconuts would devastate any witch to begin with, but since the game mechanics mean her Doppel’s attacks are guaranteed to hit, anyone who finds themself in her crosshairs should pretty much just give up. For some reason, the palm tree also boasts a very high accuracy rate, and honestly allows her to target a single enemy much more carefully and stubbornly than usual. Please think of this as a positive change.

Homulilly

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_homulilly_2.png

Owner: Homura Akemi

Nature: Karma

Form: Mortal world

The master of this emotion, looking for an exit, travels around many worlds and weaves enormous threads of karmic destinies. Following the master whose body was almost vitrified are the incomplete fourteen born in an emotion. Aiming at the accomplishment of a goal, the fourteen remove any obstacle in the way in a businesslike manner. The fourteen, regardless of their master's intention, ceaselessly weave the threads of karmic destinies into a more intricate karmic destiny, chasing the master to a labyrinth which probably makes her escape even more difficult. These emotions have yet to have any name to represent them.

  • Call-Forward: The faceless needle-wielding Glasses Homura lookalikes that ride the rockets are implied to be prototype versions of the Clara Dolls.

Homulilly (Haregi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_haregihomura.png

Owner: Homura Akemi (Haregi ver.)

Nature: Karma

Form: Treasure ship

The master of this emotion thinks of the lost splendor she left behind during the old year. The seven bodies carried by the treasure ship are the remnants of the emotions the master tried to detach at the start of the New Year, but their expressions are painted over by the regret she harbors, making it impossible to read the original emotions. This doppel crushes the enemy when the master cannot bear the weight of her regrets and throws out the entire treasure ship. The more dazzling the first sunrise is, the heavier the master's regrets become, so the seven of them wear glasses so as not to be blinded by the dawn light of the New Year.

    Hund Balou

Hund Balou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hund_balou.png

Owner: Hanna Sarasa

Nature: Refutation

Form: Pet

The master of this emotion learned how to control people using power that she borrowed from another. This eventually became a source of greed on her part, and manifested in this warped form. It is a representation of her desire for revenge, rooted in the abuse she faced in her past– and conversely, it is also an exaggerated projection of herself. She holds no sense of shame over it; only a pure and innocent madness. This Doppel uses many leashes to restrain its opponents, and smashes them to pieces with its giant paws. It is also trembling in a constant state of excitement.

  • Meaningful Name: The word 'Hund' is German for hound or dog, which the Doppel vaguely resembles.

    Ichikishima

Ichikishima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_302800_l.png

Owner: Ayame Mikuri

Nature: Forward charge

Form: Trigger

This Doppel represents forward charge. The master of this emotion charges headlong towards those she resents, with perfect accuracy.

This Doppel is part of the kitsune-ken Doppel trinity, is proficient in raw strength, and can flatten any magic that stands before it.

Once this Doppel’s trigger is pulled, it will either strike its enemy dead-on, or tenaciously chase them around until its master’s strength is exhausted. But because it becomes too perfectly concentrated on this task, it won’t accept a second command even from its master, and gives absolutely no consideration to collateral damage. As such, caution is required when summoning it.

  • Meaningful Name: Like the other Azalea Trio Doppels, she is named after one of the three Shinto goddesses produced as a result of the trial by pledge between Amaterasu and Susanoo, in this case Ichikishimahime.

    Ichizo

Ichizo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ichizo_magiarecord.png

Owner: Kuroe

Nature: Escape

Form: Nighthawk

Though the master of this emotion lamented her past and stopped in place once already, she has now found a light to follow, and doesn’t stop trying to spread her wings and fly. As her Doppel continually sheds tears, it attempts to put its master at ease by limiting her movements with wings of heavy mud. It denies her attempts to both seek and soar in the sky, while constantly emphasizing the exact opposite path to her. Though it utilizes its wings to attack those who oppose its master, each and every swing is meant to indicate to its master that she can never reach the light, no matter what she does. After being completely eaten away by this Doppel, the only choice one has is to become a black star that stands motionless on the Earth’s surface.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the anime, she constantly mocks Kuroe over her abandonment of Kuro, often taking on the form of the girl. She is eventually able to drag Kuroe away after Tsuruno is rescued and is able to completely break the girl, taking over her and taking her out of the system.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In the anime, she succeeds in driving Kuroe into despair and escaping from the Doppel Barrier, allowing her to fully take over Kuroe’s soul and emerge as a Witch.
  • Hate Sink: If the revelation that Doppel syndrome shows that Evil Is Not a Toy wasn't bad enough in the anime, she pretty much brings out the worst out of Doppels. She spends almost all her screentime doing nothing but Mind Rape her master by going all out of her way to persistently harass her for not saving Kuro from becoming a Witch, including taking the form of said Magical Girl. Worse of all, she's doing it to corrupt her into one, and she yanks Kuroe outside the Doppel barrier, ultimately resulting in her Witchification and death and proving how much of a hypocritical jerk she is. Overall, there's just nothing likeable about her.
  • Moral Myopia: A running gag in the anime is her pestering Kuroe about the time she didn't save someone from potentially becoming a witch, yet does so to turn her into one.

    Isabeau

Isabeau

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_412200_l.png

Owner: Isabeau

Nature: Dominion

Form: La Reine's Twilight

The master of this emotion seeks dominion and influence ad infinitum, for as long as she exists. The curses scattered by this Doppel are themselves a death-bringing darkness to all other humans, and if bathed in these curses, those without a resistance to them will instantly vanish from existence. The joy its master derives from this sight is synonymous with purification to her. The more her surroundings are stained with despair and darkness, the brighter her Soul Gem’s rhapsodic light shines.
  • Moth Menace: She is a butterfly-like Doppel who spreads homicidal darkness.

    Jing

Jing

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/satomi_nayuta_doppel.png

Owner: Nayuta Satomi

Nature: Comedy

Form: Opera Mask Shaped

The master of this emotion is both surprised by the brutality within herself, and slightly exasperated by her Doppel’s shallow way of thinking. This Doppel doesn’t pay attention to its surroundings, and has a habit of jumping to hasty conclusions about the things that enter its field of view. It may prance about with joy when it ought to be doing battle, and may seethe with anger when it ought to be enjoying itself. Despite being stubborn and reluctant to change its mind, it displays amazing practical strength when its behavior aligns with the situation. None can dodge its shapeshifting blade, and any attack will be deflected by its lotus flower’s lotus effect. Those who’ve seen it in combat have praised the sight as beautiful, as if it were dancing the entire time. Incidentally, it seems to think of its master as a kindred spirit who resembles its own absurd self.

    Khlestakov

Khlestakov

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seika_kumi_doppel.png

Owner: Seika Kumi

Nature: Reversal

Form: Prosecutor

The master of this emotion is embarrassed to know that her continued attempts to polish her comedic skills have led people to mistakenly assume that she has an eccentric personality. In much the same way, this Doppel often frets over how to make itself known to those around it, as it has no true form hidden beneath its mask. But it doesn’t mind being misunderstood if it benefits in the process, so it plays the role of an authority figure while stealing everything of worth from those around it. This includes lives and memories, on top of material goods. If you were to chuckle back at the Doppel upon hearing its satisfied laughter, it would assume that you’ve figured out its ruse, and quickly hide.
  • Shout-Out: Like the other Apartment Trio Doppels, its name and form refers to Nikolai Gogol, in this case his play The Government Inspector; the protagonist is named Khlestakov, and prosecutor is a similar role to government inspector.

    Kogetsu

Kogetsu

Click here to see Kogetsu Spoiler Alert

Owner: Chizuru

Nature: Vengeance

Form: Komusō

The master of this emotion closed her eyes to see the continuation of memories that will never be drawn in the future as she continued to look at the hand that had slain her beloved friend. This Doppel is a pearl of illusion that pops out from her obstructed view. It is filled with clouds of memories overflowing from the skin and sweet, fragrant flowers of joy. Its core is a fruit that must not be touched, and just trying to get close to it will cause you to be avenged by being devoured by the dragon and turned into dirty ink. If you make eye contact with someone who peeks out from inside the pearl, the Doppel's resentment will pierce your brain and you will be plagued by an unstable mind for some time.

    Komatsu

Komatsu

Owner: Tsuyu Mizuna

Nature: Heavenly punishment

Form: Straw warrior

The master of this emotion hopes for the salvation of her people through fertility, but behind her heart she hides a selfish desire for the restoration of her house. This Doppel, as if expressing the master's true intentions through her actions, lights the fire of greed in the straw, sears her enemies, and then preys on them with her hard limbs. Her appearance is brutal, and even if the master tries to stop her, she will not be deterred, and she continues to hunt for the prey she needs to make herself more valuable. When all the straw burns down and the Doppel disappears, all that is left around is a horrific scene, but it is said that a few beautiful wild flowers remain there.

    Kovalev

Kovalev

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leila_ibuki_doppel.png

Owner: Leila Ibuki

Nature: Poikilothermy

Form: Nose

The master of this emotion doesn’t know what she can prove her identity with, and has fallen into confusion upon realizing how ambiguous people’s conceptions of each other can be. Her Doppel can disguise itself as other people, and even force those around it to bow their heads in respect. It gives nothing to others, and can even wound them or take their lives without them being able to lift a single finger in opposition to it. But if the hollow void underneath its robes is witnessed, it’ll instantly lose its sense of self-worth and become powerless.
  • Shout-Out: Like the other Apartment Trio Doppels, its name and form refers to Nikolai Gogol, in this case his short story "The Nose" (the protagonist is named Major Kovalyov).

    Kriemhild Gretchen

Kriemhild Gretchen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kriemhild_gretchen.png

Owner: Madoka Kaname

Nature: Mercy

Form: Salvation

The master of this emotion tries to save all of existence. This Doppel appears as a huge floating Soul Gem. Once it is summoned, it creates an existence within which all things around it are consumed, and then takes control of everything within that existence. After that, it floats higher into the air and a shower of light arrows rains down. While all of this is happening, the master of this emotion sleeps inside the huge Soul Gem.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: This version of Gretchen is only visible as its Soul Gem-shaped core - the titanic Brocken spectre that makes up its body is never viewed anywhere except for inside of it.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is meaningful in two ways.
    • Gretchen is the name of Faust’s lover, an innocent and naive girl who represents purity but is corrupted over the course of the myth/play. Fittingly, there are actually multiple references to Faust throughout the original anime series. Some studies suggest that Faust refers to the girl as Margarete (meaning pearl) at the beginning because of her purity and innocence, and changes to the diminutive Gretchen after their intercourse, to point out her spoiled purity. In the same way, the fact that this Doppel is named Gretchen, rather than Margarete, could represent the corruption of Madoka's soul.
    • Kriemhild comes from the Nibelungenlied, a woman who was happily married to Siegfried until he was murdered, and her fortunes all taken away by his scheming assassins (Gunther and Hagen) so she couldn't raise an avenging army. In response, she married Atilla the Hun and used his army and ceremonies as a way to corner Gunther and Hagen so she could take her revenge, but in the end she's killed as well. The reference to Kriemhild could refer to how powerful Madoka would become as a witch and how both could similarly cause the fall of nations.
  • Morphic Resonance: Her form is the same as Madoka's Soul Gem.
  • Mythology Gag: Her form as a giant Soul Gem in Magia Record is based off of concept art by InuCurry for the Madoka Magica Portable Game. In that game, it was noted to be in the center of the witch and is perhaps her true form.

Kriemhild Gretchen (Haregi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/new_year_kriemhild_doppel.png

Owner: Madoka Kaname (Haregi ver.)

Nature: Mercy

Form: New Year's tidings

The master of this emotion is filled with aspirations for the new year from inside her Doppel, which gathers all wishes for the year the moment if manifests and bestows them upon its enemy in the form of blessings of mercy. Any and all life that has thrived on this earth over the millennia of its existence are sure to be equally condensed and crushed by the enormity of this fleeting creature's wish.

Kriemhild Gretchen (Madoka-senpai)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madokasendoppel.png

Owner: Madoka-senpai

Nature: Mercy

Form: Expulsion

The master of this emotion is identified as a foreign substance by her Doppel, and is mercilessly ejected from it. Having been separated from the representation of her emotions, only memories linger in its former master’s mind. But as she relishes those memories, they exude a new wave of emotion– and its charmingly quirky voice will surely mow down every enemy that she can see down below.

Kriemhild Gretchen (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_mizugimadoka.png

Owner: Madoka Kaname (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Mercy

Form: Salvation

The master of this emotion is en route to a summer resort, her heart aflutter at the thought of all the rare experiences that one can only enjoy during this brief window. This has affected her Doppel’s appearance as well, but because its master struggles to visualize what the resort will actually be like, the Doppel’s body has transformed into a serving of special fruit ice cream. Everything in the vicinity that this Doppel absorbs will be bathed fairly and evenly in cold syrup and fruit. Though they experience freezing cold as a result, it’s said that enduring the cold will lead to both salvation, and the ability to exalt the glories of any summer one could have. Throughout this, the emotion’s master dreams of eating delicious fruit ice cream as she sleeps.

    La Hire La Hire

La Hire La Hire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/la_hire_la_hire.png

Owner: Melissa de Vignolles

Nature: Disintegration

Form: Fury

The master of this emotion has a gentle disposition, and makes a good impression on everyone around her. When a force or action acts on another entity, it’s pushed back by an equal and opposite “reaction”. This Doppel is the very definition of an inverse reaction to its master’s personality, with its fundamental nature symbolizing fury. It will beat down anything that opposes it until said opposition has disintegrated, and the more torment its master’s peace-desiring heart endures, the more fiercely its power surges forth. It’s completely vulnerable to continuous attack, but that’s no reason to take it lightly.

    Lakehurst

Lakehurst

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ooba_juri_doppel.png

Owner: Juri Oba

Nature: Endorsement

Form: Airship

At the sight of her Doppel trying to immediately release the massive energy that’s built up within her body and mind, the master of this emotion sends it a glorious cheer of her own, and works to vent her frustrations along with said Doppel. This Doppel encourages one to immediately act on every thought that comes into their head, to the point of considering self-control an outright evil, and it likewise never holds back for a single moment. This extends not just to things like eating and sleeping, but even to sudden destructive impulses, and the Doppel thus lays waste to its surroundings while dragging its master along. If one dared to try and stop it by applying external pressure, its discontent would spike beyond its limit, and the resulting explosion would blast away everything in its vicinity.

  • Balloonacy: Her Doppel has the form of a blimp, lifting Juri up in the air whenever she summons it. However, unlike Tsuruno, it also connected to her arms, making her pose looks like a cross.
  • Meaningful Name: Lakehurst is the name of the naval station where the Hindenburg disaster occurred, and Juri's Doppel is a giant flaming blimp.

    La Pucelle de Blancheur

La Pucelle de Blancheur

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/la_pucelle_de_blancheur.png

Owner: Tart

Nature: Sacred fire

Form: National salvation

The master of this Doppel has a pious heart, free of sin. The crosses that rain down from above are no ordinary ones. They are upside down crosses, and rather than exude divinity, they draw out sin and make those who bear witness to them face their own evil, wreathing them in purifying flame and burning them swiftly to ash. There is no sin that this Doppel cannot find and bring to light. Simply put, enemies have no choice but to accept its overwhelming purity.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Doppel manifests as a giant armored woman. It's one of the largest Doppels in the game.
  • Flower Motifs: Twin lilies (presumably fleurs-de-lis) emerge from its back, and it's connected to Tart via a flower stem growing out of her back.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: This Doppel weaponizes this. It's so absurdly pure that it causes those in its presence to incessantly disgorge their sins and try to repent.
  • Meaningful Name: Tart's Doppel is named "La Pucelle de Blancheur," which means "The White/Pure Maiden" in French. This perfectly fits Tart's own persona as the one who will bring light to France.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Has four arms: two hold swords, and two are constantly clasped in prayer.

    Latria

Latria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latria.png

Owner: Kirika Kure

Nature: Manipulation

Form: Needles

The master of this emotion has vowed absolute loyalty to her savior. It penetrates enemy and master alike with sharp needles, sewing the fate of all things tight. This act represents its extreme devotion, such that it offers up everything, including its life to its benefactor, while symbolizing the perilousness of its dependence upon the other, which it cannot maintain its identity without. The sharper the needles are, the more the stitches there are, and the harder it becomes to extricate oneself from it. However, this merely serves as an expression of the master's desire.

  • Adaptational Modesty: Latria wears several shirts here, while in the manga, its torsos are left fully exposed.
  • Chest Burster: Busts out of Kirika's chest when she summons it.
  • Meaningful Name: "Latria" means "adoration" or "worship" in Latin. This reflects Kirika's single-minded love and veneration towards Oriko.
  • Named by the Adaptation: It was never given a name in the Oriko Magica manga, although fans speculated it was "Margot" due to a sign in its labyrinth that read "Margot Garden." Magia Record revealed its true name is Latria.
  • Spike Shooter: Fires giant needles at its enemies.

    Luca

Luca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/livia_medeiros_doppel_5.png

Owner: Livia Medeiros

Nature: Suffering worldnote

Form: Tree diagram

Due to the presence of this being that represents the origin of life, the master of this emotion is painfully aware of the inescapable yoke that forces her closer to becoming one who does harm. This Doppel speaks of nothing and indicates nothing, simply growing its tree of life ever larger with the impurity it absorbs from its master. Though its form is wrapped in swaddling cloth, it is every bit as unblessed as its master, and it harms those who oppose it by maliciously scattering the impurity it gained from its birth. If another being trapped within the tree diagram were to appear, they would surely fall into a crucible of agony. Only the master can become an actual part of the tree.

  • Meaningful Name: LUCA is an acronym referring to the Last Universal Common Ancestor, the theoretical most recent organism from which all life on Earth can claim common descent. The Doppel's form is a tree diagram (used to show ancestry) and the fetuses within the Doppel represent mammals, reptiles, humans, fish and birds.

    Magatsu Mononushi

Magatsu Mononushi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_105200_l.png

Owner: Toyo

Nature: Erosion

Form: Large snake

The master of this emotion is bound by an ideal image in an attempt to get closer to her mother, who she longs for, and she sees herself in the form of her Doppel. The Doppel, born from the limbs of its master, even entangles its master's nerves, depriving her of her freedom, and when it senses with its keen sense of smell those who are oppressed in spirit, it bites them and invades them with its venom. No one escapes its venom, but are forever freed from oppression. Witnessing the situation, the master becomes more wrapped up in curses than ever before due to the destruction and slaughter that she herself has forbidden, but the Doppel will never notice.
  • Orochi: It’s very much based on this, being a snake with multiple heads.

    Marguerite

Marguerite

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_103400_l.png

Owner: Asahi Miura

Nature: Security

Form: Fort

The master of this emotion refuses to be intruded upon in personal matters, such as her hobbies and preferences. Covered with a hard outer shell, the Doppel is the master's private space that separates and forces distance from the surrounding information, and has a mechanism on top that allows the master to snipe and eliminate anyone outside if they are in the way. However, the Doppel itself refuses to be interfered with, so if anyone tries to talk to it or touch it, it will rush to calm itself down by lashing out until the person loses its shape. At that time, the master inside is said to be shaken and torn to pieces.

    Marita

Marita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1573538051206.png

Owner: Sunao Toki

Nature: Resignation

Form: Assassin Bug

The master of this emotion inwardly projects her past self upon the sharp and ferocious being that emerges from her, and looks upon it with regret. This shrewdly, silently-moving Doppel approaches its targets without alerting them to its presence, then bends its needle mouth like a whip to skewer them and suck out their life force. Even against tough opponents, it approaches stealthily and uses its four limbs to whittle them down before feeding. Its master simply watches as its crystal is stained red, powerless to stop the Doppel as it drags her to and fro.

    Mary

Mary

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_305700_l.png

Owner: Akari Mai

Nature: Regression

Form: Amusement park

The master of this emotion thinks of it as a place where she can return to the mindset of a child, with nobody around to watch her as she does so. This Doppel has the power to draw out the childlike wonder that sleeps deep within a person’s heart. Those who it touches will become able to enjoy even childish pastimes, and be released from any and all stress. However, those who play with it and become its captive will begin to perceive the Doppel’s mouth as the entrance to paradise, and anyone who sets foot inside can never find their way back out. But it still has a maximum park capacity, so if too many people wander into its mouth, it’s said that the Doppel will sometimes spit them back out from the strain.

  • Amusement Park of Doom: An amusement park Doppel who traps anyone who gets inside, albeit one that maintains a maximum capacity.

    Maura

Maura

Owner: Nanaka Tokiwa

Nature: Duplicity

Form: Shop curtain

This Doppel reflects two sides of the same coin. The master of this emotion feels guilty in some way about the lack of floral elements in her Doppel. Its frontside primarily supports its allies, while its back side's offensive power is high. It is skilled at parrying enemy attacks, and it guides any souls who pass through its curtains to the underworld.

The master of this Doppel is cowardly by nature, which is why she gave birth to this stubborn Doppel. It fears losing anything and is fixated on obtaining more. It shares it's proclivity for thievery with its master, and will pilfer anything it can get its hands on, even if those items belong to an ally. This Doppel is extremely greedy and refuses to give up on anything once it has it in its possession.

  • Sticky Fingers: McDougal is the Doppel of cat burglary. It's to the point where it steals its own runes in its summoning sequence.

    Merkava

Merkava

Owner: Hikaru Kirari

Nature: Sluggishness

Form: Chariot

The master of this emotion feels utmost joy in working for the sake of others, but is terribly lazy when it comes to her own self. As such, she has nothing but mixed feelings about dragging around a being that represents herself. Because this Doppel is powered by its master’s own strength, it cannot take action by itself, but upon being thrown by its master, it will instantly crush its enemies with its massive, sturdy body. The Doppel itself loves being of use to people, so it only intends to hug its enemies as it’s flying toward them, but since being thrown causes a large blade to jut out of its body, it always thinks that it’s failed.

    Morfine

Morfine

Owner: "Yuu"

Nature: Madness

Form: Unicorn

The master of this emotion takes pride in defeating bad people and is also forgetful, so she feels like the refreshing feeling she gets is a reward for herself every time she sends out her Doppel. The Doppel has a clean and pure body, but due to the influence of a conflicting curse within its body, since its birth it is unconscious of the curse dripping from its eyes and mouth. When the Doppel wakes up in severe pain due to its master's unreasonable treatment, it roars, and the curse scatters around it, puncturing holes in the body of anyone it touches. From inside the Doppel, it seems that the simple voice of its master can be heard when it sees such a person.

    Naomi

Naomi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naomi_6.png

Owner: Mayu Kozue

Nature: Adoration

Form: Nadeshiko

The master of this emotion is reluctant to admit that her Doppel represents her nature. It has the power to ensnare others' hearts and hold them under its sway. Anyone pulled in by this Doppel will be unable to resist its allure. Many of its victims will devotedly throw their lives away for it; others will find it hard to raise a hand against its loveliness. It can compel men in particular to absolute servitude, and to a level of self-sacrificing devotion that fears not even death. Even if its target is a woman, she will surely find it difficult to raise her hand against something so beauteous. If she were to use this power to gain too many blind fanatics, however, she would bring about her own end.

    Nikolai

Nikolai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_350500_l.png

Owner: Leila & Seika

Nature: Satire

Form: Relic

By accepting their own human tendency towards continual change, and aspects of each others’ personalities that had gone mutually unacknowledged, the masters of this emotion have strengthened their bonds even further than before. Their Doppel refuses to acknowledge its masters, and continues to act on ceaseless impulse. It concentrates the darkness, deception, self-serving hypocrisy and vainglory in people’s hearts, and attempts to plant these behaviours in the people around it. It does so out of spite towards humans who hide their true natures, but upon being moved by the strength of its masters’ bond, the Doppel exhausts all of its power and withers away, as if to make amends.
  • Shout-Out: Like the other Apartment Trio Doppels, its name and form refers to Nikolai Gogol, in this case his first name and his speciality (satire).

    Oaji

Oaji

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiroe_chiharu_doppel.png

Owner: Chiharu Hiroe

Nature: Selection

Form: Sodegarami

The master of this emotion proudly believes that its ability exists to reveal and capture evil, but in truth, it is a Doppel that seeks 6 human sacrifices to plunge into the depths in its master’s place. No matter how well an adversary hides, its lantern head will expose all beneath the light of day, and its three-pronged claws will drag them down to the bottom of the swamp. The more targets it drags into the swamp, the more powerful this Doppel becomes, but that power is sure to descend upon its master as a calamity one day. Nevertheless, this Doppel continues to desperately store up power for the sake of eliminating those who would do harm to its master.
  • Shout-Out: Refers to the Mitsumatafuchi sacrifice in Japanese mythology, having the same name as one of the sacrifices and seeking Human Sacrifices.

    Obariyon

Obariyon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wakana_tsumugi_doppel.png

Owner: Tsumugi Wakana

Nature: Unbalanced diets

Form: Vacuum cleaner

The master of this emotion is utterly exasperated by the vulgarity of her Doppel, which not only refuses to listen to her, but even snatches and inhales other people’s food. When this Doppel spots a being that it has good compatibility with, it’ll ignore its master’s orders and start absorbing that being’s magic, and won’t change its target until said being dies. Its stomach is downright bottomless, so it doesn’t have to worry about any clichéd outcomes like inhaling so much that it explodes, but since it becomes heavier and heavier the more magic it stockpiles, it may sometimes squash its master flat.

  • Meaningful Name: The Obariyon is a small youkai that jumps onto people's backs and demands that they carry it home while chewing on their scalp. It gets heavier and heavier as you carry it, but if you manage to make it back home, it'll turn into a sack of gold coins.

    Obscurité

Obscurité

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/obscurite.png

Owner: Riz Hawkwood

Nature: Obsession

Form: Silhouette

The master of this emotion feels deeply for others, even when she herself is faced with a grave predicament. It can be said to be a law of Providence that where there is light, there is always shadow. However, it is another law of Providence that as long as something stands in the shadows, it cannot accept any light unto itself. This Doppel is a shadow, always found close by the side of a hero favored by bright light. It is like darkness itself, never allowing anyone to grasp its true nature. It is precisely because of this shadow, however, that the light’s presence stands out all the more. The two of them are linked together by Providence’s inseparable bond.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Its presence makes the bright light of a hero (namely Tart) shine brighter, and it is always by her side supporting her.
  • Meaningful Name: "Obscurité" means "Darkness" in French.
  • Prehensile Hair: The Doppel comes from Riz's black hair, looking like a mass of tendrils that aren't obvious from where her hair starts and her shadow ends coming out of a seashell.

    Odette

Odette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_403500_l.png

Owner: Haruka Kanade

Nature: Exhibition

Form: Gazing Eye

The master of this emotion persistenly clings to the achievement of perfection, in order to wipe clean the irreparable sin that she committed out of a fleeting whim. This Doppel searches for its master in order to bestow punishment upon her, but since its large eye cannot catch sight of the master directly below it, it is eternally unable to find the sinner it seeks. In the absence of anything else to do, it fulfills its raison-d'être by searching its vicinity for those who unconsciously bear sin of their own, and exhibiting said sin to them.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: Unlike in the manga, its arms are wider and its dress body replaced by its master's body.

    Oktavia von Seckendorff

Oktavia von Seckendorff

Owner: Sayaka Miki

Nature: Unrequited love

Form: Mermaid

The master of this emotion suffered from young love and chose a fate so harsh that she could not bear it alone. As such, the Doppel dreams of love while it swims effortlessly through the air, playing a song for its master from its vast hollow body. It can control several swords to attack its enemies with the soundwaves that emanate from its body, but as long as the master uses it, she cannot flee from the discontent that troubles her heart.
  • Love Hurts: They are the embodiment of Sayaka's grief over failing to win Kyosuke's heart.
  • Storm of Blades: She uses multiple swords to fight Sayaka's enemies.

Owner: Sayaka Miki (Haregi ver.)

Nature: Romance

Form: Mermaid

Though the master of this emotion has been anguished by love all the way to the year’s end, she’s positively delighted by this opportunity to don her favorite formal wear. Even so, the unease born out of her unchanging love still lurks within her heart, quietly tormenting its master. Her Doppel has been just as lovesick, but when clad in these auspicious symbols, its confidence soars. Its glow practically seems to bestow good fortune and ward off disaster, and it fearlessly charges forward no matter what obstacles may lay in its path. Those crushed by its sheer force will witness the sun and Mount Fuji in their final moments, and will surely be able to put the sight into a masterful piece of brushwork.

Oktavia von Seckendorff (Surfer ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_240100_l.png

Owner: Sayaka Miki (Surfer ver.)

Nature: Romance

Form: Mermaid

The master of this emotion averts her eyes from the fundamental truth that “unannounced feelings cannot reach their recipient,” and continues to wait for a coincidental opportunity– her “big wave of summer”– to arrive.

As such, this Doppel has an overabundance of free time, and begins swimming around exuberantly as soon as it’s set free. Its offensive techniques are a pure combination of kinetic and potential energy, utilizing the accelerating passion of summer and the overwhelming mass of a lovesick heart to crush its enemies into dust.

After the relief that accompanies this momentary expulsion of emotion, the Doppel’s master will most likely continue trying to convince herself that “her ideal opportunity still hasn’t arrived”.

    Old Dorothy

Old Dorothy

Owner: Alina Gray

Nature: Fever

Form: Paint tube

The master of this Doppel is entranced by the beauty of her own Doppel, but has yet to realize that it is still hiding its true form. It attacks from where it sprouts out of her back, using a large projection of itself made from the hardened paint (Pathogen Tempera) it emits. It boasts a Witch-like figure as it does this, despite its Doppel nature — this is because its human body becomes so coated in paint that she's no longer visible. The master cannot verify the appearance of her Doppel, but apparently it is "just as beautiful when you view it from the inside"

Old Dorothy (Holy)

Owner: Holy Alina

Nature: Fever

Form: Piping bag

The master of this emotion believes that the artwork she desires is also what humanity desires on a deep, unconscious level, and is gathering energy to make that artwork a reality. Having realized that the beauty of personal emotional expression is the fundamental artistic motif of humanity, her resulting joy has also affected her Doppel’s form. In addition to embodying her festive cheer, even the Pathogen Tempera it pipes out now shines in a wide range of colors. That said, though, the pain and suffering that it gives and receives are exactly the same. The agonized screams of those it devours shall surely sound like beautiful hymns to its master’s ears.

    Ophelia

Ophelia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ophelia.png

Owner: Kyouko Sakura

Nature: Desperation

Form: Warrior actress

The master of this emotion doesn’t trust its mysterious power, she only borrows its weapon and wields it herself. To the master, it's no more than a hateful thing that drags up her painful past due to its power, a dubious hypnotic magic that controls mist to produce illusions. But even still, it possesses her regrets, hidden deep in her heart, so she allows it to aid her somewhat in battle, though she remains suspicious of it. The Doppel itself is the fluttering kimono-like thing, while the candlestick holder the master rides is a separate being altogether.
  • Meaningful Name: Unique to the game: its name comes from the Greek word for help, οφελος (ophelos), referring the nature of Doppels being a help to their Magical Girl masters in preventing them from suffering as Witches.

Ophelia (Mizugi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1564218408468.png

Owner: Kyouko Sakura (Mizugi ver.)

Nature: Desperation

Form: Warrior actress

The master of this emotion doesn’t trust her Doppel’s enigmatic power, but since she’s temporarily become able to swim, she’s actually on cloud nine. And though she normally views her Doppel as nothing but loathsome, it can use its hypnosis magic to project a vision of swimming freely through the sea, which transforms it into a source of elation for its master. This is also reflected in its method of attack: the Doppel has fused with a large mirror, with which its master can collect the sunlight beaming down behind her and concentrate it into a ferocious heat ray. If there is nothing left to attack, they ride away on the candle holder (now a sea turtle) and swim along with the fish.

    Oxford

Oxford

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukari_miyuri_doppel.png

Owner: Yukari Miyuri

Nature: Stark Naked

Form: Shoe-shaped

The master of this emotion is dumbfounded by the countless legs sprouting out from her vicinity and pressing in on her. However, she doesn’t actually seem bothered by them, and is in fact staring blankly into space from a sheer overload of joy. Meanwhile, her Doppel has had no luck whatsoever in its search for a foot that will fit it, and has filled itself to the brim with nothing but dud legs to dispose of. But it still hasn’t given up on meeting its soulmate (sole-mate) one day, and thus tends to throw tantrums out of frustration. It vents its stress by leaping high into the heavens, then falling back to earth in a plummeting stomp. Apparently, it can relieve more stress the higher it flies.

    Pamela

Pamela

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pamela_6.png

Owner: Kokoro Awane

Nature: Endurance

Form: Shell

The master of this emotion knows it's simply a way for her to release her pent-up frustation. She views it with mixed feelings, as she understands there are drawbacks. This Doppel sprouts thorns to resist those who would harm it and attacks ferociously when it senses danger. On rare occasions, the agitated emotional state of its master may cause it to explode, and its shell - though stronger than metal - will break and release a surge of powerful magic.

  • Percussive Maintenance: Whenever Kokoro summons her Doppel, she has to hit Pamela a few times to get it going. Then it starts spinning around like the Beyblade from hell.
  • Spider Limbs: Pamela has a bunch of these. It lifts them out of the way for its spinning attack.

    Paparazzo

Paparazzo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_ryo.png

Owner: Ryo Midori

Nature: Gossip

Form: Twin-lens Reflex Camera Shaped

The master of this emotion continually sought the truth in accordance with her desires. Her Doppel likewise responds to those desires in extreme excess, able to expose an opponent’s truth simply by photographing them in full.

Any truth that this Doppel unveils can never be forgotten. This applies to both the subject and the photographer that are fixed within the gaze of the Doppel’s twin lenses, with the unveiled truth being burned into both of their memories: an equal amount of anger if it finds anger, or an equal amount of sorrow if it finds sorrow.

Should this Doppel’s master continue to use it, she will become unable to open her heart to anyone without first using the Doppel’s ability to expose everything about them.

    Pennen Nenemu

Pennen Nenemu

Click here to see Pennen Nenemu Spoiler Alert

Owner: Nemu Hiiragi

Nature: Dying Wishes

Form: Deathwatch beetle

The master of this emotion will sacrifice everything she has. This terrifying Doppel uses both of its bug-headed hands to devour the stories of the world. It can then use its ridiculous power to materialize these stories into the real world. It is said its power comes from its weakening master, and that as she gets weaker, the Doppel get stronger. However since it uses all of its power to materialize the stories it eats it doesn't pack a physical punch, some even believe it wouldn't stand a chance against a direct hit from a Witch.

  • Shout-Out: Its name is a reference to a work of Kenji Miyazawa, titled Biography of Pennen Nenemu. It's about a ghost who lives in the ghost's world. The world is a different dimension from the world where humans live, and although ghosts can "appear" in the human world, it is a crime to appear without permission. Nenem loses his parents by a famine and his sister by an kidnapper, and is employed as a proletarian. He quits his job after working for ten years and then rises to the position of "the Chief Justice of the world". He does a fine job that all citizens praise, and in the process reunites with his sister, but he later becomes bloated with authority, slips and appears into the human's world, from his conceit. He laments his failure and declares his resignation.

    Pennen Nolde

Pennen Nolde

Click here to see Pennen Nolde Spoiler Alert

Owner: Touka Satomi

Nature: Daydreaming

Form: Match Seller

The master of this emotion desires more power even after becoming a Magical Girl, in order to achieve more wishes. This Doppel divides its master's lifespan up into matches, and grants a "What if" wish whenever a match is lit. When the Doppel runs out of matches, the master's life is over. It is very powerful, but similar to the Doppel of Dying Wishes, it mustn't be abused, for it sacrifices one's own lifespan.

  • Cast from Lifespan: Touka's Doppel carries a collection of giant matches made from her lifeforce. If all are used up, she dies.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Its name is a reference to a work by Kenji Miyazawa.
    • Its form and description is a reference to The Little Matchgirl by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The story revolves around a dying girl's hopes and wishes, seeing one every time she lights a match. However, the match goes out in the cold snow and she loses a bit of her life force, which is what Pennen Nolde does to Touka every time she lights a match when she uses it.
  • Reality Warping: The Doppel's power is the ability to grant any "What-Ifs". It uses a set of matches made from Touka's lifespan, and when it lights one of them, any "What-If" imaginable can be granted, which in-game is used to call down a meteorite shower from space. The only limitations of this power are that it relies on Touka's imagination to create a "What-If", and that the number of matches is limited; once all the matches have been used, Touka dies.

    Pistis

Pistis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chitose_yuma_doppel.png

Owner: Yuma Chitose

Nature: Education

Form: Droplet Shaped

In opposition to her own feelings, the master of this emotion has been evaluated as “not useful.” A dilemma: despite wanting to guide events in a good direction, nobody expects any such thing of her. This Doppel was born from that very dilemma. This Doppel’s form is built from and maintained by intricately-intertwined emotions that she holds despite her young age… or rather, emotions that fermented because of her young age. There’s a gulf between the place where her imagined, ideal self stands, and the place where she stands right now. But there’s no doubt about the fact that both those places have her feet firmly planted on them.

    Plaisir

Plaisir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_402500_l.png

Owner: Corbeau

Nature: Masochism

Form: Moon-cawing crow

The master of this emotion rushes about in a wild, mad frenzy, and loses her mind with joy…

As the physical manifestation of such unbecoming tastes, this Doppel takes the form of a crow that caws in enjoyment of the moonlit night. An aberrantly-shaped being that strikes dread in the hearts of all who see it, born from the final throes of manic revelry.

Those who confront this Doppel are sure to feel terror from the very bottom of their hearts. But this is no ordinary fear– as the sort of fear that can be engendered only by those who live their lives on Death’s door, those who taste it will have their sense of self destroyed, and eventually be led to insanity.

    Poker Alice

Poker Alice

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nanase_yukika_doppel.png

Owner: Yukika Nanase

Nature: Boredom

Form: Daredevil

The master of this emotion rests on this rocking chair, feeling great tedium in her peaceful, uneventful life. This Doppel takes the form of an imaginary monster, the daredevil, and covers her eyes to prevent her noticing impending danger. A Doppel that is proud to have not known defeat, still not having met a worthy adversary, it is dangerously close to entering the same tedium as its master. Because of this, its fights grow fiercer and more reckless by the day, but the master who sees none of this continues to rest easy.

    Renard

Renard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_403300_l.png

Owner: Arisa Narumi

Nature: Cowardice

Form: Power Arm

The master of this emotion fears solitude. After being one-sidedly beaten down by those around her, she was left in a world of helpless isolation. There was nothing to do but sit there in a state of melancholy. The only way to escape was to take the opposing position– to obtain enough strength to hit back anything the world could throw at her. This Doppel is undoubtedly a manifestation of that strength, but atop its hands sits its master’s deeply-held fear of reverting to her previous solitude.

  • Meaningful Name: Named after Jules Renard, the author of "Poil de carotte", about a redheaded boy who was abused by his family and his ways to battle the daily humiliations he experiences.

    Renata

Renata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/renata.png

Owner: Ren Isuzu

Nature: Electronic ordinance

Form: Electrocardiogram

The master of this emotion uses powerful electrical signals to burn the ill will from its target's body, incinerating its personality along with everything else. Though she is horrified by this Doppel's power, she is also tempted to believe that murder such as this is the only way to put an end to all human ill will. This Doppel also has power over both life and death, and, when it appears, the master's body and soul split apart temporarily, leaving her soul meandering in the space between life and death.

  • Astral Projection: Ren's body dies whenever she summons Renata, and her consciousness separates from her body to join with the Doppel.
  • Death of Personality: Renata's electrical signals inflict this on their victims instead of killing them, in a dark fulfillment of Ren's wish to eliminate malice from the world.
  • Flatline: Renata's EKG does this when Renata is summoned.
  • Meaningful Name: Renata is a feminine form of the late Latin name Renatus, meaning "reborn." Not only was Ren spiritually reborn after attempting suicide when she met Rika, but she also literally dies and is reborn whenever she summons Renata. Renata also contains Ren's name.
  • X-Ray Sparks: Renata inflicts this on Ren's spirit to power up its attack.

    Rukh

Rukh

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirino_sae_doppel_2.png

Owner: Sae Kirino

Nature: Social climbing

Form: Pawn

The master of this emotion watches her Doppel break through its shell to reinvent itself, and sees her own future within it.

Her Doppel is proud of itself for obtaining power without relying on anyone else, and perhaps as a result of this self-confidence, it utterly refuses to accept advice or counsel from any other. This applies to its master as well: it may be cooperative towards her when their opinions happen to align, but it will staunchly refuse to nod its head after even a single irritation.

It also behaves mercilessly towards everyone other than its master– even if they may be weak, helpless beings like its former self– and will use its blazing-hot staves to skewer all who disagree with it. As its master watches this, she views it as a show of false bravado, borne out of its fear at the memory of how weak it was in the past.

    Scylla

Scylla

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_102800_l.png

Owner: Himena Aika

Nature: Perpetuity

Form: Portrait

The master of this emotion holds mixed feelings towards her Doppel: though she feels a mysterious sense of kinship with it, she’s also frightened by the sense that her heart could be laid bare by looking directly at it. The Doppel responds by putting its master to sleep within the sphere connected to its body, in order to free her from the emotions that so vex her. While she sleeps, it attempts to fulfill her desires by stamping out each and every foe that refuses to understand her. Incidentally, the Doppel’s body is also a mere makeshift form projected from its master’s heart, and changes shape based on her own thoughts. It currently takes the form of a lovelorn wolf seeking its mate. The makeshift form will repeatedly regenerate as long as the sphere and ring remain intact, so caution is a must.
  • Noble Wolf: A wolf Doppel who loyally protects its master from any emotions that annoy her and attacks anyone who doesn't understand her.

    Selene

Selene

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/selene_magiarecord.png

Owner: Masara Kagami

Nature: Bleakness

Form: Calm

The master of this emotion doesn’t have any particular feelings towards her Doppel. This Doppel dramatically lowers the magical activity in its vicinity, transforming all magic energy into a state of perfect calm, no matter how fierce of a battle had been raging on around it. As long as they’re within this calm zone, both enemy and ally will find it impossible to exert any kind of magical effect. The Doppel and master’s fused form appears to stem from its master’s characteristic lack of emotional turbulence.

  • Blue Is Calm: Is a Doppel with a blue color motif and its main ability is to calm down all magic in its presence.

    Shalimar

Shalimar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kisaki_emiri_doppel.png

Owner: Emiri Kisaki

Nature: Temptation

Form: Snake Strawberry

While the master of this emotion feels an affinity for her Doppel, which behaves as it pleases without any concept of good or evil, she also feels her own immaturity emanating from it. This Doppel speaks directly into one’s brain via ultrasonic tones, giving affirmation to anything and everything. The confidence and courage it grants are enough to wipe away any concern one may have. Its comfortable words lead people to develop a great dependence on them, but because it well-meaningfully affirms even people’s aggressive or malicious emotions ad infinitum, it may unintentionally guide its targets towards the worst possible actions.

  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: It uses ultrasonic waves to make its targets only feel affirmation, giving them an addictive feeling of confidence and courage. However, this causes them to lose track of their morality and emotions since they only feel happy all the time, causing them to do bad things.
  • Meaningful Name: Shalimar is a perfume released in the 1920s which had a "bad girl" reputation thanks to its association with the rebellious Flapper girls of the time.
  • Morphic Resonance: It still has Emiri's twintails.
  • Visual Pun: Snake Strawberry is a plant that mimics real strawberries despite being unrelated. Shalimar is an actual snake with Snake Strawberry earrings.

Owner: Ui Tamaki

Nature: Suffering

Form: Happy statue

The master of this emotion shares all pain suffered by the ones she loves, and takes it unto herself as her own. The pain is then changed into gemstones, and the Doppel’s power increases in tandem with the number of gemstones adorning it. However, it cannot move, and therefore cannot evade any attacks. It carries a sword and shield, but they are purely decorative, and are no use as weapons.

  • Eye Beams: How she attacks.
  • Ornamental Weapon: Like the description states, the shield and sword made of gold are ornamental.
  • Shout-Out: Appears to be this to The Happy Prince, a statue that befriended a swallow and attempts to bring happiness to the village it was built in by having the bird give its jewels to the poor. Their actions would go unnoticed, and the statue would be melted down before its heart and the dead swallow are brought to heaven. Some of the impoverished happened to include a writer and a match girl, alluding to Ui's friends Nemu and Touka.

    Sotria

Sotria

Owner: Oriko Mikuni

Nature: Anguish

Form: Ballroom dance

The master of this emotion has been given the duty of changing the fortold future. A strong wind blows, scattering flowers, the petals of which drift into another world. When the mist at last accumulates, the time comes. It intermingles with the fluttering flower petals, and the festivities begin. The Doppel starts to dance, and at the dance's climax, the enemy shadows vanish like flowers in a storm as an offering to the festivities.
  • Foil: Sotria can be considered a potential one to Homulilly, as much as Oriko and Homura are foils to each other. Both have to do with ballet performances, but whereas Homulilly is based on the Nutcracker Ballet, Sotria is focused on the general performance of the ballroom. Homulilly has too many arms, while Sotria has too many legs. They also share their master's opposing color schemes. Finally, the best factor of similarity is that Sotria has Oriko manifest the same eyes and smile that Homulilly's Clara Dolls sport.

Nature: Anguish

Form: Ballroom dance

The master of this emotion has made it her mission to change the future that she foresaw. Its violet rose petals are portents that carve apart any enemy set to play a role in events yet to come. As the wind blows and begins to dance, this Doppel’s ball begins. The bats accompanying it are not servants, but rather partners that perform alongside the Doppel’s master. When the master and her Doppel generate countless giant needles with which to skewer their target, the bats likewise slice apart the target in concert with them. Their constant rhythm produces a frenzied harmony, and as the dance floor’s heat reaches its highest peak, they spur the Doppel on to dance until its roses have been scorched black.

    Spica

Spica

Owner: Chisato Shion

Nature: Justice

Form: Megaphone

The master of this emotion imposes upon herself the need to be right and correct. Her Doppel, which believes in the justice its master advocates, attempts to broadcast its master’s voice to all the people around her via its microphone, but the magnified voice that echoes out from its various speakers is far too loud to serve as anything other than noise. Even if its master were to hypothetically order it to stop, the Doppel can’t hear her over the sound of its own noise, and will not cease until all people act as they should.

  • Meaningful Name: Spica is a binary star system in the constellation Virgo, and Chisato's Doppel takes the form of two loudspeakers. The name also sounds like the Japanese pronunciation of "speaker", meaning it doubles as an Incredibly Lame Pun.

Form: Heavenly flower

The master of this emotion dreams of a world of paradise, but loses her roots to her Doppel. This Doppel, which has no consciousness, simply extends its roots and sucks up energy from the ground to bloom into a large flower. The flower grows until it envelops the sky and covers everything, moving its intricate patterns like a kaleidoscope, stopping the thoughts of those who see it and inviting them to inhale its scale-like pollen, leading them to a paradise. People tell others about that path to paradise and spread it, but they are not sure if it is truly happy. No matter what you do, it will not stop, but as soon as you pull out its roots, it will wither and disappear.

    Sylvie

Sylvie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sylvie.png

Owner: Ikumi Makino

Nature: Eye-catching

Form: Wind-up doll

The master of this emotion views wanting other people to smile and being desired as the same thing in some small way. Her Doppel frantically smashes its cymbals together, and anchors shoot toward the eyes of those whose attention the cymbals gather. Those cursed by the sound are then chased down by the anchors until their eyeballs are taken from them. If this Doppel is used often, the user will feel anxious unless someone is watching them at all times.
  • Eye Scream: Arrows/Anchors shoot out of her eyes, and the Doppel's summoning seems to start from her eyes first.

    Taburatsu

Taburatsu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_303800_l.png

Owner: Mikura Komachi

Nature: Interment

Form: Grave goods

The master of this emotion feels no small sense of relief towards her Doppel, which can bury not just physical material, but also emotions, memories and even concepts. This Doppel appears from within the earth, secures a position for itself with its haniwa-shaped beacons, then pours down a massive amount of sediment to create a kofun on that position. Those who touch the kofun’s soil will have something of theirs entombed and lost, though not necessarily something tangible. This is an act of good will on the Doppel’s part, and everything it does is for its master’s sake. However, it’s unclear as to whether or not this emotion’s master is aware of that.

    Tagitu

Tagitu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_302700_l.png

Owner: Hazuki Yusa

Nature: Requital

Form: Storehouse

This Doppel represents requital. The master of this emotion never forgets the payback she is to enact on those who she resents.

This Doppel is part of the kitsune-ken Doppel trinity, and is proficient in protection and support.

During this Doppel’s emergence, it fixes its master in place and uses her as a decoy. Any superhuman strength is like that of a mere infant before it. Should anyone thoughtlessly attempt to attack its master, it will capture them with its boulder-like palms and trap them inside its body, as well as occasionally forcing them to sign deeds that lock them into inconvenient contracts.

  • Meaningful Name: Like the other Azalea Trio Doppels, she is named after one of the three Shinto goddesses produced as a result of the trial by pledge between Amaterasu and Susanoo, in this case Tagitsuhime.

    Tagori

Tagori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tagori.png

Owner: Konoha Shizumi

Nature: Retribution

Form: Fox

The master of this emotion performs acts of vengeance against those she hates, using a variety of magic attacks. This Doppel is part of the Fox Trinity and represents retaliation. It is skilled in magic and can use will-o'-wisps to confuse its enemies. So long as their master's grudge burns on, not even water can extinguish them. The master will lose her ability to think logically while using the Doppel; instead, she will act purely on instinct and perform extraordinary acrobatics.
  • Meaningful Name: Like the other Azalea Trio Doppels, she is named after one of the three Shinto goddesses produced as a result of the trial by pledge between Amaterasu and Susanoo, in this case Tagorihime.

    Tara

Tara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tokime_shizuka_doppel.png

Owner: Shizuka Tokime

Nature: Peace

Form: Thousand hands

The master of this emotion devotes her life to others to a self-sacrificing degree, and because her Doppel shares a similar mindset, the two are deeply linked with each other. This Doppel reacts sensitively to those who its master views as enemies, and if necessary, it will wield violence against said enemies to instill in them an understanding of the wonders of altruism. Those who receive its teachings will suffer hideous injuries, but due to this Doppel’s brilliant gold shine and the artistic nature of the violence it inflicts, its victims become so fascinated as to forget the pain entirely, and are said to become its captives before they even know it.
  • Feel No Pain: Its shine and artistic attributes allow any of its victims to feel no pain from its attacks.

    Theresia

Theresia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theresia.png

Owner: Sana Futaba

Nature: Transparency

Form: Interrogation Chair

The master of this emotion feels both pain and satisfaction from her Doppel's form. The main body of this Doppel is not the chair, but an invisible entity that is tortured endlessly while sitting atop it. This transparent Doppel uses its own blood to attack its enemies; however, it is not so easily controlled, and should the visible Doppel emerge from its master's right ear instead of the invisible one that typically appears from her left ear, it will scream and go on a rampage, swinging its guillotine at allies and enemies alike.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Unlike other Doppels, Theresia has two "patterns," with different animations and effects. One of them buffs allies, the other one is slightly stronger and debuffs enemies instead.

    Tiracchana

Tiracchana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_102100_l.png

Owner: Yuna Kureha

Nature: Chastisement

Form: Prison guard

This master of this emotion could not control the emotions stored within, and was controlled to be replaced by the swelling emotions. As a result, the doppel that was supposed to be created is now controlled by the flesh bud of an emotional baby, which is constantly being sucked for energy to help it grow. The doppel is a lump of instinct without a shred of reason, a being that crushes what it doesn't like with its emotions and eats energy at will. On the rare occasions when it tries to explain itself with words, it only sounds like air leaking out of a cave, never conveying anything. It is in a good mood when its full, but if it eats a little too much, it seems to vomit energy out of its mouth.
  • Meaningful Name: Its name Tiracchana is also used as a slang term for evil, referring to Yuna being part of a gang.

    Totentanz

Totentanz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/totentanz.png

Owner: Mitama Yakumo

Nature: Memento mori

Form: Flower petals

The master of this emotion attempts to bring ruin to everything, out of resentment for the environment in which she lives. This Doppel does not forget death, which comes equally to all things in creation. It covers everything with fluttering petals, and gracefully comes to escort away girls with its white gloves. Both it and its master have no way to attack directly, but its power, which exists alongside the demise of all things, is fearsome nonetheless. All magical energy covered by its flowers will wither away, leaving nothing behind. Should this Doppel’s master continually seek its power, her left arm may eventually fuse with it completely.
  • Meaningful Name: Totentanz means "the dance of death." Totentanz is the Doppel of memento mori and is a reflection of Mitama's wish to become the one that destroys Kamihama.

Totentanz (Haregi ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitama_haregi_doppel.png

Owner: Mitama Yakumo (Haregi ver.)

Nature: Memento mori

Form: Auspicious day

The master of this emotion is happy to welcome the new year with newly made friends, despite resenting her situation. That happiness takes the form of golden lilies, as well as red and white striped cloth. She shares her joy by scattering flowers about everyone nearby before wrapping them in the cloth to ring in the new year. Then again, no one is allowed to go home when it's time to serve the New Year's feast, so they languish in agony as they endure an eternal end to the year.

Totentanz (Eternal Darkness ver.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_121700_l.png

Owner: Mitama Yakumo (Eternal Darkness ver.)

Nature: Memento mori

Form: Flower petals

The master of this emotion resents her environment and is willing to accept destruction. This Doppel, which once had no means of inflicting direct death, has come to know how to pluck life with the master's change. The flame in its sickle is the radiance of the life it sucks up, and it sucks up the life of those who are enchanted by its radiance. Even if one tries to wrap oneself in all kindness to stop the doppel and the master, now that the petals have decayed and shed their elegance, their thoughts will never reach you, as they are filled with sorrow.

    Trolley

Trolley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_305100_l.png

Owner: Jun Kazari

Nature: Nostalgia

Form: Afterimage

While the master of this emotion is captivated by her Doppel and the retro-style scenery and items it displays, she takes care to draw a line between it and herself in order to avoid being engulfed by its charm. This Doppel rejects the passage of time, continuing to remain inside a nostalgic landscape. It thus repeats the same span of time over and over, and is always seeking family-like beings with whom it can share that time. The master understands her Doppel’s intent, and thus never looks back at the Doppel as it perpetually follows behind her. But according to those engulfed by it, time within can be spent in a meltingly relaxing state as one returns to a child’s view of the world.

    Ukei

Ukei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_350300_l.png

Owner: Konoha & Hazuki

Nature: Sworn oaths

Form: Kitsune-ken

The masters of this emotion had long acted as a makeshift family with restrictions placed on one another, but by accepting each other as individuals, they have now truly become one.

This Doppel is bound together within the rules of a three-way tie, like a polymer that can never break apart, and is proof that its masters’ hearts are united as one. As such, it’s not only stronger and sturdier than a boulder, but also boasts enough persistence and decisiveness to charge forward until its life burns out, and doesn’t falter in the slightest even when acting purely on instinct.

This is likewise evident in how it wields swords of vast length. Though the swords may be heavy and their movements slow, somehow none are able to escape being crushed by them.

  • Fusion Dance: The first instance where Doppels are shown to be able to merge together. Thus, it carries the sturdiness of Tagitsu, the instinct of Tagori, and the persistence of Ichikishima.
  • Meaningful Name: Similar to the other Azalea Trio Doppels, her name refers to the ukehi ritual between Amaterasu and Susanoo which created the three Shinto goddesses the other Doppels were named after.

    Vayu

Vayu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hozumi_shizuku_doppel.png

Owner: Shizuku Hozumi

Nature: Vagrancy

Form: Wind God

The master of this emotion is disappointed in her Doppel’s ability, which, much like herself, ultimately cannot cross the sea no matter how fast it sprints about. This Doppel can swiftly reduce anything its feet touches to an arid, weathered state, but if it stays still, it too will sink into the desert ground it produces. Thus, it’s forced to constantly run around. It always runs around as fast as the wind as a result, but it’s unable to fly. When this Doppel appears, its master also sprints off along with it, but the weathered footprints left in their wake apparently make it very easy to track them down.

  • Shout-Out: Its nature as a vagabond, its form as a tiger, and its suitcase-shaped head both refer to Yoji Yamada's Otoko wa Tsurai yo film series.

    Victoria

Victoria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuuna_8.png

Owner: Yuuna Kaharu

Nature: Dissatisfaction

Form: Compote

The master of this emotion views her Doppel coldly, as it puts on air of elegance, yet becomes ugly in order to fulfill its desires. This Doppel is not only well aware of its luxurious beauty, but seems to think of its own status as a free pass to indulge itself. It lacks self-control as a result, and exhausts every possible means available to grasp that which interests it. Its attachment to things it has never seen before is particularly tenacious. However, it has a habit of fulfilling its desires via its appetite, and shoves everything that interests it right into its stomach. As such, it seems that this Doppel has only ever learned the taste of those targets of interest.

    Vimala Upadana

Vimala Upadana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_105100_l.png

Owner: Heruka

Nature: Fanaticism

Form: Sutra

The master of this emotion has lost herself while saving people and is obsessed with the fanaticism of those around her. The Doppel, as if to express the master's delusion, runs around trying to bring salvation to those who seek it, with the intention of wearing the fire of this world in one's body. However, those who see it are not saved, but rather caught in the flames as their eyes burn from the sheer dazzle. The Doppel thinks that those who burn are the ones who are saved and since the master, too, remains obsessed with her delusion and does not look back on herself, when she returns to herself, she is burdened with new karma.

    Vlastenske

Vlastenske

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doppel_103600_l.png

Owner: Urara Yume

Nature: Friendship

Form: Wooden Doll

The master of this emotion is delighted at how her Doppel performs together with her, but also suspects that she herself may be being manipulated. This Doppel’s excellent communication skills allow it to not only interact with various people besides its master, but to captivate and befriend absolutely anyone with its comical movements. However, that friendship is proof that they’ve been bewitched by the Doppel and made easy to manipulate. Harm has apparently befallen those who befriended the Doppel in practice– being crushed by a cigar box while juggling together, for instance.

    Winchester

Winchester

Click here to see Winchester Spoiler Alert

Owner: Mikoto Sena

Nature: Seclusion

Form: Mirror

The master of this emotion is angered by how her Doppel disdains reality yet refuses to move, and attempts to take control of it herself. This Doppel drew out a precise and intricate ideal world for itself, but placing a mess of complicated emotions onto that world has rendered it unable to move. There was a time when it tried to project its imagination onto mirrors to weave its ideal world, but the products of its own imagination felt not only bland, but outright shallow. In the end, after continually agonizing and chipping away at its own heart, its form changed into a flat, symmetrical shadow. Sick of the sight of her own Doppel hiding and worrying, its master proposed that they simply tack on the parts that were missing– to find living sacrifices with which to supplant its imagination. The Doppel agrees with its master’s suggestion.
  • Horned Humanoid: Its master wears a pair of horns that are part of Winchester.

    Yu Hong

Yu Hong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuhong.png

Owner: Tsuruno Yui

Nature: Camaraderie

Form: Ham

The master of this emotion is unhappy with both the appearance and behavior of her Doppel. In contrast to her desire to achieve great deeds through her own hard work, this Doppel creates a stream of wealth to satisfy the desires of her relatives in an attempt to preserve family peace. However, this is only a short-lived harmony. She believes that it exists in contrast to her own goals and prefers to keep it hidden. However, she may one day find that she needs this Doppel to protect the harmony between her family, no matter how fragile that harmony might be.

  • Animal Motifs: Pigs.
  • Balloonacy: Tsuruno's Doppel is part Chinese Sky Lantern, so it lifts her up in the air whenever she summons it.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: As a reflection of Tsuruno's love of Chinese culture, Yu Hong has a Chinese name instead of the others' more European names.

Yu Hong (Uwasa)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsurumor_doppel.png

Owner: Uwasa Tsuruno

Nature: Camaraderie

Form: Ham

Have you heard? Has anybody told you? The Rumor of the Doppel of Camaraderie! It's a little pig that's grown nice and plump, capable of granting wishes for its master's family. It represents great wealth with its grand, glittering body, and ensures her family's wealth in the years to come! However, the master of this piggy doesn't much care for it, it actually puts her in quite the grumpy mood. "It's way too embarrassing to let anyone see it!" she says, so she hides it. It's a hot rumor in Kamihama! No, stop, don't look!

    Yuerao

Yuerao

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuerao.png

Owner: Riko Chiaki

Nature: Thread-reeling

Form: Moonlit matchmaker

The master of this emotion has yet to admit that this Doppel is still lurking within her heart. This Doppel spreads a thick sheet of ice at its master’s feet, and appears within the ice. When it attacks, it can also emerge above the ice by switching places with its master, but this traps its master within the ice in exchange. Above the ice, the Doppel reels in and steals every thread of fate it can find. By collecting a thread that its master once tied together in the past, it seeks to return her situation to how it was before. Nevertheless, severing a joined thread after the fact will only bury those who it united deep under the ice. Each time this Doppel is used, the feelings that its master had already given up on will resurface in her heart.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In the anime, it forcibly fuses itself with Riko (presumably due to overuse) and mutates her into a creature with Body Horror, getting her put in the Doppel Isolation Ward.
  • Meaningful Name: "Yuerao" is derived from the god of marriage and love Yue Lao (月老) in Chinese. Riko's wish was for her older sister figure and her boyfriend to get married (which was a challenge because the two of them were Star-Crossed Lovers from different wards).
  • Would Hurt a Child: In the anime's episode 17, it is shown to have forcibly fused itself with the 11-year-old Riko and mutated her into a creature with Body Horror.

    Zipzap

Zipzap

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashley_taylor_doppel.png

Owner: Ashley Taylor

Nature: Faith

Form: Kawaii

The master of this emotion loves kawaii culture and takes extreme pleasure in promoting it. Her face turns to pure delight when she gazes at this image of herself. The Doppel understands fully its master's desire to spread her interests, so it strives to implant a fondness for manga, anime, yumekawa, and gurokawa in others. If it encounters someone less kawaii than its master, it releases rainbow beams from its six eyes, enveloping them in a plethora of ribbons and lace, altering their hobbies and tastes. Its victims are said to then bow down to it in reverence.
  • Atrocious Alias: Zipzap. Zip Zap. Do we really need to say more?
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Sharing its master's wish of spreading Japanese culture, it can alter peoples hobbies and tastes if it considers it "less kawaii than its master," and implant a desires for manga, anime, yumekawa, and gurokawa in the victim.
  • Shout-Out: The hair on its center body looks like that of Hatsune Miku.

    Zola

Zola

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zola_5.png

Owner: Kaede Akino

Nature: Conquest

Form: Plot of land

The master of this emotion fears that it will eat away at their everyday life and carefully chooses when to summon it, for the instant this Doppel is summoned, regardless of its master's intentions, it will cover its surroundings with rotten moss to conquer the land, with its only goal being to expand its territory. Summoning this Doppel accidentally, even in a beloved area, will destroy its surroundings by covering everything in its moss. Within the confines of its territory, it can unleash tremendous power.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In the anime, it forcibly fuses itself with Kaede and puts her out of commission for several episodes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In the anime's episode 17, upon gaining sapience due to overuse, it forcibly fuses itself with Kaede, who while barely in the early teens at age 14, is overall the weakest and most Doppel-reliant of the Magical Girls. This causes her to mutate into a moss-like creature with a half-exposed ribcage.

    9daime Nue

9daime Nue

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kagura_san_doppel_1_6.png

Owner: Kagura San

Nature: Stagnation

Form: Security System

The master of this emotion absolutely cannot accept any change in the things that brought her to where she is today. In response to this feeling of its master’s, this Doppel displays the ability to notice even the slightest movement of a pebble by the side of a road, the sound of a pin dropping, and so on, in order to catch every little detail of the changes occuring in its vicinity. If a change occurs as a result of a natural phenomenon, it will quietly tend to it and return it to normal. But if somebody intentionally caused it, the Doppel will never forgive them; it will launch the masks attached to it in order to give pursuit, and is absolutely guaranteed to capture and punish its target. It’s bad at defending itself from weapons such as arrows– which its master has mixed feelings about, given that she uses projectiles herself.

  • Berserk Button: Any intentional change in the surrounding environment is unacceptable for her.

    刀牛

刀牛

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hitagi_doppel.png

Owner: Hitagi Senjougahara

Nature: Tsundra

Form: Weight Crab

The master of this emotion cannot clearly distinguish the subject of her feelings, conducting herself in an awkard, thorny manner. This Doppel expresses its emotions in a similarly severe way: it takes the many stationery supplies that its master carries to compensate for her fading sense of presence, and turns them into weapons by increasing their weight by several hundred kilograms. In contrast to its master, this Doppel can only vaguely distinguish its original form as an Oddity. Even if the subject of its master’s dormant feelings happened to be surprisingly close by, the Doppel would probably use their weight as nothing more than a simple paperweight to hold its own identity together.

    咼

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mayoi_doppel.png

Owner: Mayoi Hachikuji

Nature: Wandering astray

Form: Lost cow

The master of this emotion wishes only to return to her mother’s house. This Doppel, on the other hand, believes itself to be its master’s true mother, and in order to protect its master from the cruel fate that awaits her, it creates many spatial vortexes in front of her to prevent her from returning home. Those unlucky enough to be caught in the vortexes will be trampled and killed by the Doppel, and will be destined to wander eternally between the realms of life and death.

  • Animal Motifs: Snails.
  • Meaningful Name: It's kanji is "咼", which is the kanji for 'a' (as in a thing). However, "咼" is also the right half of the character for "snail" (蝸).
  • Punny Name: Its form being a "lost cow" is a pun on the word "snail" (蝸牛, katatsumuri) which has the character for "cow" (牛, ushi).

    犭苛

犭苛

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsubasa_doppel_sprite.png

Owner: Tsubasa Hanekawa

Nature: Heartache

Form: Two shadows

The master of this emotion channeled her enormous suffering into a two-bodied Doppel that serves as her own shadow. One shadow, the hindering cat, sucks away the strength of those it touches, while the other, the harsh tiger, burns everything to ash with its flames of jealousy. The two shadows are manifestations of its master’s negative emotions, which she cut off in her attempt to live a perfectly correct and upright life, and are here because its master needs them. Each time she summons the two shadows, she loses another two of her precious feelings, but she is unlikely to feel any regret over that.

  • Animal Motifs: Cats, including tigers.
  • Meaningful Name: It is called by a fake kanji, 犭苛. It apparently uses the 犭from 猫 (cat) and the 苛 from 苛虎 (rash tiger).
  • Shout-Out: Tsubasa's Doppel is based off of two Oddities from her home series, Bakemonogatari. The "hindering cat" is based off of the sawarineko and the "harsh tiger" is a reference to Kako.

    它

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nadeko_doppel_sprite.png

Owner: Nadeko Sengoku

Nature: Spellbinding

Form: Snake-cut rope

The master of this emotion wants to keep dreaming of happiness, with her unrequited feelings hidden away in her chest. This Doppel takes the form of a massive snake god, created from the long forelocks that its master grew out to prevent her heart from being known. It will fatally curse those who try to intrude upon its master’s heart, by turning their own curses back upon them. It attacks by twisting its scale-covered body together like countless ropes to bind its foes. This savage method of offense is also an inverted reflection of its master’s desire to tie down and possess the object of her affection.

    袁

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suruga_doppel.png

Owner: Suruga Kanbaru

Nature: Violence

Form: Monkey's paw

In contrast to her good-natured disposition, the master of this emotion keeps pitch-black feelings deep in the bottom of her heart. The negative emotions hidden behind its master’s openly-expressed desires are taken into account by this Doppel, and it attempts to grant those wishes through violent means. This Doppel emerges by way of its master’s soul temporarily yielding to her subconscious negativity; however, it is constantly attempting to catch her off guard in order to take control of her mind and body permanently. Should its master ever grow weary of this competition and be defeated by her negative emotions, she will most likely be reduced to one single devil, forever unable to return to human form.

  • Animal Motifs: Monkeys.
  • Meaningful Name: It displays the kanji "袁", which is the kanji for 'long' (as in long clothing), However, "袁" is also the right half of the character for "ape" (猿).

    鬼

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinobu_doppel.png

Owner: Shinobu Oshino

Nature: Immortality

Form: Oddity-slaying sword

The master of this emotion loathes her eternal life, and desires nothing but her own death. This Doppel is the direct manifestation of the legends told about its master as the iron-blooded, hot-blooded, cold-blooded vampire, the slayer of Oddities and the master of Oddities, “Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade”. In response to its master’s drive for death, this Doppel uses the demon sword “Kokorowatari” to obliterate any and all Oddities, yet the blade will never be pointed at its own master.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Takes the form of a gigantic woman (specifically, Shinobu's adult form).

  • Meaningful Name: The kanji shown here, '鬼', is the same one would use when talking about oni or demons - or oddities, in reference to Bakemonogatari. Additionally, it's the last of the three kanji used for the word 'vampire'.

Witches

The Anime Finale Boss (MASSIVE UNMARKED SPOILERS

Neo Dorothy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neo_dorothy.png

Type: Unknown

Nature: Unknown

"In a few moments, the storia that is Alina Gray will scoppierà into a flame of creativity! Alina will make everything into arte so gorgeous you'll all thank me for it!"

The form Alina Gray took after allowing her Doppel of Fever to devour her, while simultaneously taking over Embryo Eve's body via its infection. Even in this state, she's able to instantly spread the Doppel of Fever to about several dozen thousand people, thereby transforming them into artificial Magical Girls. Artificial Magical Girls become able to use magic regardless of age or gender, but much like the original Magical Girls, they must purify themselves with Grief Seeds to avoid being taken over by the Doppel of Fever and turning into Witches. At a glance, it may seem like they're being forced to bear the fate of Magical Girls without even a wish as collateral, but according to Alina, "humanity's prosperity itself is the collateral," "being granted magic— a power that's completely independent of physical ability or social standing— is also collateral," "in the first place this is Art so there doesn't even really need to be collateral," and "free-of-charge magic distribution is GOD". Originally, Touka and Nemu were intending to complete their concept of the Doppel System by making Embryo Eve absorb the two of them, in addition to Walpurgisnacht.

  • Adaptation Name Change: A name shortening variant. Her name has a profanity at the end of it in the anime but later shortened to "Neo Dorothy" in the game instead. She's also called "Alina Eve" on Shaft's Twitter page.
  • Canon Immigrant: Originally a stand-in for the three Final Bosses of Arc 1 in the anime, Neo Dorothy appeared later as an event boss in the game.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Witches are always this by default, but Neo Dorothy is even more so by the virtue of being an ungodly amalgamation of Alina, Old Dorothy, and Embryo Eve.
  • Evil Is Bigger: It is way larger than the army of Magical Girls trying to attack her, who are all human-height individually.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Shortly after being born, it strikes at Iroha, Touka and Nemu with a column of fire, and it spews out some fire during the transformation sequence.
  • Final Boss: Takes over Walpurgisnacht's role as this in the anime.
  • Fusion Dance: She's the fused form of Alina, Old Dorothy, and Embryo Eve with some shades of Holy Alina.
  • Healing Factor: Is able to regenerate its left half after being shot down by Touka and Nemu.
  • Meaningful Rename: The name of Alina's Doppel is "Old Dorothy", so it would make sense for her fused form to be called "Neo Dorothy". The anime also adds the F-Bomb on it, reflecting on Alina's habit of swearing and hatred towards the current system.
  • Morphic Resonance: In addition to having Alina's hair, she also has a pair of reindeer legs colored in the pattern of her lower half.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: She is a fusion of Alina, her Doppel, and Embryo Eve which is far more powerful than the former, enough to No-Sell dozens of Magical Girl attacks at once.
  • No-Sell: The mass onslaught of power blasts Kanagi orders to stop her does nothing as she flies towards Walpurgisnacht.
  • Shout-Out: Fitting with her surname referring to The Picture of Dorian Gray, Alina's gleeful boast in the anime finale that her story will "scoppierà into a flame of creativity" but is instead forgotten due to the Magical Girls' fight being forgotten is reminisicent of "The Remarkable Rocket" (also written by its creator Oscar Wilde), in which the eponymous rocket bragged even while fizzling out that he managed to make a great sensation of himself even after it went largely unnoticed.
  • Speech Bubbles: She generates a speech bubble with "Fuck" while regenerating.

A witch who collects certain junk and builds a nest within her own barrier. She loves the time she spends holed up in her tube-shaped nest more than anything else. She usually just swims around inside the nest, but if some troublesome intruders come, she threatens them with her frill and attacks them with her body. She was instantly tore up by Sandbox Witch, but she is not particularly weak among witches. The sky inside her barrier is filled with pasta noodles that apparently imitate the pasta-shaped god she once saw.
  • Bright Is Not Good: While normally black and white, she can change colors like a chameleon to a very colorful effect. She's still just as dangerous as any other Witch, though.
  • Canon Foreigner: She was created for the anime and later added to the game.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: When it tries to invade Zenobia's labyrinth, Zenobia catches it and immediately rips it in half, killing it instantly.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her single eye takes on a red-and-orange bullseye pattern when changing color.
  • The Swarm: Her unnamed familiars are a massive swarm of odd, fetus-like fish.

    Candy

Candy

Type: Bunny-eared Witch

Nature: Princess

This Witch collects things from inside her Labyrinth. She regards herself as the personification of cuteness, and loves to be praised for her appearance and accessories. For this reason, her attacks can be avoided by complimenting her on her looks. However, if she senses even the slightest negativity, she will lose her temper and throw a tantrum, so one needs to be extra careful when flattering her. Because of her fickle nature, even if she looks like she is in a good mood, one should not let their guard down, as she is known to bite and impale things with spears.

    Charlotte

Charlotte

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlotte_sprite.png

Type: Sweets Witch

Nature: Tenacity

She desires everything. She will never give up. Though she is capable of creating infinite amounts of any dessert she desires, she is unable to make the cheese that she loves most. One could easily catch her off-guard with a piece of cheese.

She is the Witch form of Nagisa Momoe.

    Crepuscule de la Reine

Crepuscule de la Reine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/twilight_8.png

Type: Avaricious Witch

Nature: Dominion

La Reine’s Twilight. Her nature is dominion. An avaricious witch who desires endless power and influence. This witch’s main body is actually separate from her larva-shaped legs, and the real body protected by a hard outer shell only rarely reveals its true form. Her Labyrinth is immense enough to cover an entire country, and the populace trapped within it remain none the wiser. The witch feeds on the grief, terror and other negative emotions of the populace swallowed by her Labyrinth’s darkness, and expands her power and territory to become an ever-mightier witch within an ever-larger Labyrinth.

She is the witch form of Isabeau.

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Her first form looks like a demonic caterpillar, while the second has butterfly wings.
  • Promoted to Playable: In a sense, as Isabeau (Witch Version) is made playable, Crepuscule de la Reine is also playable. This is easily visible in Isabeau's Magias as she uses both forms in them.
  • The Unfought: Her second form is defeated in a cutscene.

    Durbar

Durbar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6107_l.png

Type: Saintly Witch

Nature: Ablutions

A Witch that perpetually cleanses herself of her sins. In order to wash away the sins soaked deep into her core, she must soak herself thoroughly in water at all times. The countless eyes on her tongue see into the future, but she has got no time for that, instead worrying about the unending impurities ahead. She is fated to purify herself, only ceasing once all her sins are gone. Those who interrupt her purification will be attacked by floods of water and bolts of lightning, and when her sins trickle down upon the intruder, their souls will be stained to death.
  • Holy Water: Bathes herself in water to cleanse her sins.

    Etteilla

Etteilla

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6110_l.png

Type: Fortuneteller Witch

Nature: Disclosure

A witch who single-mindedly attempts to uncover the truth within the various destinies that are consolidated in her barrier. Able to gaze across past, present and future, she feels joy at the fact that all destinies are hers alone to know, and ceaselessly turns over the tarot cards atop her table. If a visitor were to arrive, she would believe them to be someone who’d recognize her power, and would gladly unveil the truths enclosed within them. But the truths that become visible aren’t always happy– and on top of that, accepting them as truth will prompt the witch to turn you into her apprentice, rendering escape impossible. If you were to oppose her, it’s said that she would show you every suffering imaginable.

She is the Witch form of Mel Anna.

  • The Unfought: Yachiyo and her old team never managed to defeat Etteila, as they were already exhausted from the fight where Mel had used up all of her magic in the first place, and Yachiyo had never found her afterward. Mel's training event story is about Yachiyo and Mifuyu finding Etteila again and finally putting their teammate to rest.

Type: Rose Garden Witch

Nature: Distrustful

She holds roses dearer than anything else. She expends all of her power for the sake of beautiful roses. Despite stealing the life-force of humans who wander into her barrier to give to her roses, she loathes the thought of them trampling the inside of her barrier.

Type: Wandering Witch

Nature: Homesickness

A witch who roams the land in search of her hometown, hoping to return one day with her bag stuffed full of memories. When she sees someone already in their own house, she doesn’t pay them much mind, but if she sees someone right as they’re entering their house, she sometimes feels a sudden rush of sadness and tries to drag them away.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: This witch is present at the center of Tokime Village, and thus plays a big role in the Tokime Clan's story.

    Маруся

Маруся

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marusia.JPG

Type: Hanamichi Witch

Nature: Resurrection

The Witch of flower paths. Her nature is to return alive. A Witch that drifted in from a foreign region. By absorbing human corpses into herself, she can reincarnate them as her minions. This gentle-hearted Witch sets out to find and absorb corpses not to expand her sphere of influence, but simply as a means of resurrecting them. However, she’s not great at discerning whether her targets are alive or already dead. There are countless minions jostling for space beneath the runway in her Labyrinth; in this Witch’s former place of residence, she was never short on material to reincarnate.
  • The Backwards Я: The я in her name is represented by a backwards R rune.
  • Canon Foreigner: She only appears in Iroha's backstory in the final season of the anime.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Her familiars are the result of her trying to resurrect corpses, not all of which are necessarily dead.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Ui, Touka, and Nemu all witnessed Iroha's fight with Маруся, which led to them forming their plan around becoming magical girls themselves.

    Matasaburo

Matasaburo

Type: Chocolate Witch

Nature: Minor role

The final end of a Puella Magi from somewhere.

She is the Witch form of Kuro.

    Mirror Witch (MAJOR UNMARKED SPOILERS

Winchester / Sarah Mirabilis W

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6212_l.png

Type: Mirrors

Nature: Seclusion

The Mirror Witch whose nature is "seclusion". Because of its nature, the barrier consists of multiple overlapping layers. It is a cowardly witch who wants to quietly hide without collecting magical power from the murder of humans and magical girls, instead slightly absorbing the magical powers of the magical girls that enter its barrier. I will form a layer to protect myself. As the number of intruders increases, the structure of the barrier also becomes more complicated.

It is the Witch form of Sena Mikoto.

  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: To Walpurgisnacht. Both are immensely powerful "super Witches" who gain that power over time from countless other magical girls, they both rack up a rather prolific body count, and they both serve as the absolute finale of their respective Main Story arcs in Magia Record. Though they differ significantly from there:
    • Where Walpurgisnacht and her familiars are a mostly mindless and violent force of nature, Winchester is disturbingly intelligent, to the point where her familiars can create near-perfect copies of anyone who enters her barrier, and she can manifest as her former self to directly communicate with other magical girls.
    • Where Walpurgisnacht is capable of leveling entire cities, Winchester is implied to be able to time travel through her mirrors, and planned to do so in order to erase magical girls from existence.
  • Final Boss: It’s the final boss of Arc 2, and is fought similarly to Walpurgisnacht - though this time, even the spin-off cast join in.
  • Game-Over Man: Losing to her in Arc 2 gives you a nice close up shot of her face.
  • Given Name Reveal: The finale of Arc 2 reveals the W stands for Winchester, and that this is, in fact, her true name.
  • Shout-Out: With the reveal that her name is Winchester, she is revealed to be a reference to the Winchester Mystery House.
  • Sliding Scale of Villain Threat: The Mirror Witch manages to climb beyond Walpurgisnacht in being not just a threat to any city she's in, but a Multiverse-level threat that can interact with other timelines and universes, being the cause of the Nanoha X-over and able to create time paradoxes and destruction with her powers.

    Oshiti

Oshiti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oshiti.png

Type: Gokumonnote

Nature: Weeping sleevefuls of tears

A witch convicted of sin, who has been reduced to only a head and suspended upside-down. Upon finding a human who has wandered into her Labyrinth, she insistently attempts to appeal to them about something, but her voice is emitted as rays of heat that burn her surroundings to ash. She is apparently waiting for someone while suspended, but even if that someone were to enter the Labyrinth, they would surely meet the fate of being turned to ash by the witch’s voice. The graveyards crowding the witch’s Labyrinth are piled high with gravestones: one stone for each sin the witch has committed, and for each lingering regret of an innocent.

  • Canon Immigrant: One of two witches that appears in a flashback in the anime's twelfth episode. She had no counterpart in the game for several months until she was introduced for the Yachiyo/Mifuyu event.
  • Creepy Cemetery: Her labyrinth is full of grave markers with her name on them.
  • Dem Bones: She's a giant pelvis with hair and a hat with the pelvic cavity deformed to resemble an empty eye socket.
  • Energy Weapon: She fires lasers from her pelvic cavity.
  • Knows the Ropes: Her familiars attack with their strings, which are strong enough to ensnare magical girls long enough for the Witch herself to blast them with her death ray.
  • Perverse Puppet: Well, half of one anyway. Her familiars are pairs of human legs attached to puppet strings.
  • Technicolor Fire: Her labyrinth is surrounded by shimmery purple flames.

    Paola

Paola

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6108_l_2.png

Type: Rubber Witch

Nature: Rebounding

She appears at ocean bathing resorts, and the interior of her barrier is an endless expanse of ocean. The witch herself can’t swim at all, so it’s essential for her to have very buoyant minions. Apparently, she can also perform high-speed bodyslams by bouncing herself around, but she’s too busy clinging to her minions so she doesn’t drown in her own barrier. She hibernates during seasons when there aren’t many bathers visiting.

    Patricia

Patricia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6400_l.png

Type: Chairperson Witch

Nature: Bystander

This Witch spins spider-like threads to create its own special school inside its Labyrinth. Before turning into a Witch, she was a serious student that didn't stand out, so she continues to repeat those dreary school days together with her Familiars. Even now, if she hears the school bell announcing the end of the day, she may head home, wherever that may be. When humans wander into her Labyrinth, they fall endlessly and eventually melt into the sky, feeding her. She does not attack anyone directly unless they are a scary intruder who disturbs her daily routines.

    Raspberry

Raspberry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raspberry_witch.png

Type: Critic Witch

Nature: Authority

A witch who passionately endeavors to sort out that which has value from that which does not. She apparently stabs stakes into the valueless things, and hands flowers to the valuable things, but it’s extraordinarily rare for anything besides the witch herself to receive a flower. Her standards of arbitration are unclear. Her Labyrinth is filled with light in the colors of the things and people that have been crushed by her stakes.
  • Attack of the Monster Appendage: She's composed of nothing but arms, most of which are carrying spikes to attack with. While these arms are pale and corpse-like, her main body is a larger, shadowy hand at the center.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Her familiars, the Razzies, are jumping, person-sized insects that combine elements of bees, fleas, and beetles and shatter like glass when killed.
  • Canon Immigrant: One of two witches that appears in a flashback in the anime's twelfth episode. She had no counterpart in the game until the Witches' Paradox 02 event in 2022.
  • Shout-Out: She and her familiars are named after the Golden Raspberry awards.

    Rebecca

Rebecca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6104_l.png

Type: Sheep Witch

Nature: Insomnia

This Witch is scared of everything. Not knowing what to do, she stays within a fence in her Labyrinth. Being so wary, she has grown many eyes. There is no moment, neither day or night, that she closes all of her eyes at the same time, which means she does not sleep. She has never gone outside of her fence, and never will. She sees herself as her Familiars' pet and waits inside her fence for them to hunt humans to feed her. She looks so meek because she seems scared, but when one of her Familiars is defeated, she becomes filled with panic and goes on a rampage.

The Season Three Witch (MASSIVE UNMARKED SPOILERS

Ichizo

Type: Nighthawk Witch

Nature: Escape

The Nighthawk Witch. Her nature is to escape. An ugly hawk with wings of mud.

She is the Witch form of Kuroe.

  • Battle Discretion Shot: The only thing we see of Iroha’s battle with her is her stabbing the witch with her knife.
  • Last Disrespects: Does it to her human form, tearing it apart into mud.
  • Walking Spoiler: Revealing her role in the story as Kuroe’s witch form spoils a good part of the anime’s ending.

    Shin

Shin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6106_l.png

Type: Babysitter Witch

Nature: Poverty

This Witch is ever in search of the baby it lost. When it finds a human, it straps them firmly to its back regardless of their age. But because it fears to lose "the baby" again, it will tie the human so tightly that whoever is captured is unable to breathe. This Witch's immaturity, however, means it refuses to take care of its captives, as it does not like babies to begin with. It especially hates to see young people free of the misery of poverty, and thus cursed itself for eternity.

  • Shout-Out: Her name might be a reference of a Japanese TV drama, Oshin, of which the titular protagonist's woman life and hardships begin when she works as a babysitter at very young age.

    Shitori Egumo (Unmarked Spoilers)

Shitori Egumo (Embryo form)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6101_l.png

Type: Blessed Witch

Nature: Suffering

A “half-witch” who quietly grows within a membrane-enclosed womb, absorbing nutrients from the impurities released when Puella Magi become witches, the emotions that humans emit, and so on. In order to stabilize the contorted power she holds, gemstones are scattered across her body as she grows. When she eventually breaks free of her shell and matures, the newly-unchained witch will hungrily absorb all the energy there is. Should she swallow the entire planet, her feeding will likely continue unabated until she becomes a giant mass of cosmic matter.

She is the Witch form of Ui Tamaki.

  • Animalistic Abomination: She's Embryo Eve; the giant bipedal moth with eyelids partially sewn shut. She is so large, that Iroha is only about as tall as one of her talons when she is in her first and smallest form. So strong is she, that the Magius are confident that she can win against Walpurgisnacht.
  • Sequential Boss: This form is fought multiple times throughout Chapter 10 of the first Main Story arc, with her Post-Metamorphosis form being saved for last, as described below.

Shitori Egumo (Post-Metamorphosis)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6102_l.png

Type: Blessed Witch

Nature: Suffering

A “half-witch” whose energy has stabilized after being enclosed in a contracted membrane. Having lost a precious part of herself, she now shakes the earth indiscriminately in order to fill the empty hole in her chest. Her rampage likely will continue unabated until a single girl is sacrificed. Also, should she lose the membrane surrounding her, this half-witch will be unable to maintain her physical body, and will eventually melt into the atmosphere. Nobody can know what effect the impurity scattering away from her may bring.

  • Final Boss: In either the final chapter of the first Main Story arc or the anime finale, she is the second of a trio of final bosses alongside Alina and Walpurgisnacht.
  • High-Pressure Blood: In the anime finale, she spews out a large geyser of red blood when Alina's Doppel smacks her in the head.

    Slave of Anima

Slave of Anima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slave_of_anima.JPG

Type: Meat Griller Witch

Nature: Labor

The Witch of meat grillers. Her nature is to labor. A dog-shaped Witch who lives purely for the sake of her job. She continually grills meat by turning a wheel as a power source. She’s long since forgotten why she was working this job in the first place. When the Witch eventually dies of overwork, a suitable candidate is selected from the minions in her Labyrinth, and made to spin the wheel as the next Witch.
  • Canon Foreigner: She only appears in Kuroe's backstory in the final season of the anime.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Iroha and Kuroe's first meeting was during a fight against this Witch.
  • Workaholic: To the point that she's forgotten why she keeps working and will eventually succumb to karōshi, only to for one of her familiars to become a witch and repeat the process. "Do my best", "deadline", "accomplish", and "karōshi" are written all over her labyrinth in runes to reflect this.

    Stacey

Stacey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6105_l.png

Type: Rooftop Witch

Nature: Dreamer

This Witch sits on a rooftop under the blue sky, dreaming about what could be. The best part of her life is when she wastes time between naps, thinking about all the things that will never come to pass. Her Familiars tie her legs down and lock the door to the rooftop so that she will not fly away. She does not seem to be bothered by this, because she wants to stay on the rooftop forever. She will not fight unless an intruder disturbs her musings. On a side note, the profile on her huge cameo brooch has nothing to do with her.

    Symbol Witch

10^-43

Type: Symbol

Nature: Revelation

A unseen Witch, whose Minions are the only proof that she exists.

  • Adaptation Expansion: She's only represented in the game by her familiars, the Echoes. In the anime, it also makes an appearance as a featureless, headless green human body kneeling over a "nest" of several eggs.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: Two varieties of Echo are animate chairs while another is an egg with legs.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: Exaggerated into the witch herself being a mannequin-like figure with no features beyond a vague outline of musculature.
  • Big Bad: Of the Puella Historia arc, where she makes occurring appearances to attack the girls and is heavily implied to have stolen Iroha’s concept away.
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: Its labyrinth has a number of jeweled rings strewn about, with some even wrapped around crystals that jut out of the "landscape" for good measure. One area also has a number of mannequins wearing crowns.
  • Fusion Dance: We later learn that Tsuyu is fused with this witch, just like Chizuru.
  • Given Name Reveal: The Puella Historia event reveals her real name is "10^-43". Her previous forms were merely copies.
  • Hate Plague: It's responsible for the divide between the East and the West sections of Kamihama, spreading hatred for anyone from the East due to Tsuyu’s feelings of being betrayed by Sanemon Banshu.
  • Marathon Boss: Like Walpurgisnacht, it was introduced as a raid boss at the end of the Puella Historia arc.
  • Mook Maker: Unusual in that its familiars are also this, only existing to create more of themselves. The labyrinth also has a lot of eggs lying around to reflect this.
  • Murderous Mannequin: The largest variety of Echo is a fashionable mannequin with a Torso with a View and a random object for a head.
  • No Name Given: The witch herself is unnamed, even when she appears in the anime.
  • Playing with Fire: Some of the Echoes can attack with fireballs.
  • Unseen No More: We finally get a look at her in the Puella Historia event.

    Teresa

Teresa

Type: Pendulum Witch

Nature: Repetition

This Witch grows its roots deep into the ground and never moves. Anyone who hears the sound of the pendulum gets stuck in a loop and won't be able to progress any further. It likes more than anything to spend time in the same spot endlessly while rocking its head. It was originally called the Pendulum Clock Witch, but after losing track of time, its numbers and hands were gone forever.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: A living pendulum. Supposedly, it used to be an entire clock.
  • Combat Tentacles: It's able to send tendrils made of yarn through the ground to attack at a distance or create barriers.
  • Slasher Smile: Its pendulum is stamped with one of these.

    Uhrmann

Uhrmann

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_6404_00_b.png

Type: Canine Witch

Nature: Craving

She has taken on the form of a dog in the vain hope of being loved by all. Humans who enter her barrier can't help but embrace her in concern. One hoping to defeat her can do so by feigning love.

She is the Witch form of Inui Itsumi.

  • Ascended Extra: Did not show up in anime at all, and her existence was only known by extra material. In the game, she was fought during the Nagisa event.

    Walpurgisnacht (Unmarked Spoilers)

?????

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/102005_warupuru_chara.png

Type: Stage-constructing Witch

Nature: Helplessness

She symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles. The witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; her appellation is "Walpurgisnacht." She will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until she completely changes the whole of this age into a drama. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the witch, she completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through her gale-like flight.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed because this Walpurgisnacht is still far from a pushover like her original series counterpart but she can be slain without the need of a Reset Button-empowered Madoka this time, though it took the combined efforts of all Magical Girls available, from Kamihama or otherwise, to bring her down. Even then, Ultimate Madoka still blessed them with her power, which allowed them to gain the upper hand.
  • Final Boss: In the first Main Story arc, after Alina and Eve are dealt with, the Magius are dissolved, and Iroha and Ui finally reunite, Walpurgisnacht is the very last obstacle the Kamihama magical girls have to face.
  • Marathon Boss: Said Final Boss battle was first introduced as a raid event for players who have cleared the rest of the Main Story up to that point. After the event, the boss battle was made available to all players as the very final segment of the first Main Story arc.

    Zenobia

Zenobia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enemy_6103_l.png

Type: Sandbox Witch

Nature: Immersion

This Witch has strong preferences and never compromises. She is trying to build an acceptable sandcastle, but she can never satisfy herself. She has destroyed and rebuilt her castles so many times she doesn't even remember what she wanted to create in the first place. When she does manage to make a nice castle, she feels much better for a while, but ends up destroying it again. She looks like a young lady, but acts like a little child. If she is interrupted when she is playing with her sand, she cries and goes on a rampage.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: It delivers one to Box Wood when it invades her labyrinth in Episode 1 of the anime, demonstrating how much stronger the Witches in Kamihama are compared to those from outside.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: It is noted that even though she looks like a young lady, she throws tantrums like a kid.
